- Can you please give me the background of that.

- Well my first ever pro game, I got sent down from here

to Utica and we played in Toronto

and on the game sheet before the game, they had my name

as Tony Stretcher.

- Like they actually thought that was your name?

- Yeah they thought that was my name,

so the guys in Utica started laughing and calling me Tony

and I guess it kind of stuck here.

- Do you have any other nicknames

have you had any in your career?

- My mom and dad call me Sparky.

- Sparky?

- Hutty is starting to call me that because he came over

for dinner one night to my mom's place

and she said it and he heard it.

- It's gonna stick, I bet you any money

that's gonna be your name.

- So we'll see how that goes.

- When you decided to come and play in Vancouver,

why was that your choice?

- Well obviously there's the whole hockey aspect

and the business side of the situation that I was in.

I was a free agent and you kinda look at the opportunity

where you might have the best chance to succeed

as an individual. Where the team's heading as a group.

And I kinda like the fact that,

Vancouver is not in a complete rebuild.

Obviously we're trying to get younger

and I think that's known around the league

and I wanted to be a part of that.

- Was there a guy on the team, that was kind of a surprise

that you sort of knew of before you came here

and then you like got into the locker room

and like wow, that was surprising?

- I'd probably say Millsy, Ryan Miller.

My first road trip here, I got called up,

I didn't have a seat on the plane,

he offered me a seat and I sat there with him

and he's just super nice and down to earth,

kinda went out of his way, made me feel comfortable.

- Wow, that's so cool.

What a cool story!

I think this season, what a lot of people have said

is you're the biggest surprise and you know,

people are really really enjoying what you're doing

on the ice.

How does that feel for you, do you feel that way?

- To have different individuals and fans say that,

it's pretty neat I guess,

being talked about around Vancouver now,

especially growing up here.

So I know my family--

- Do you like that?

- My family thinks it's one of the biggest things

but I'm not gonna lie to you, it's something

I can't really get caught up in.

- Yeah of course, you can't pay attention to that too much.
