I'm Ryan from extremeterrain.com, and this is my review and installation of the RedRock
4X4 6-inch Rivet Style Fender Flare Kit, fitting all 1997 to 2006 TJ's.
Today, we're gonna talk through the installation of this kit which is a very simple one out
of three wrench installation.
This may take you around two hours to get installed but it will bolt directly onto your
TJ making it a no-drill installation, but we'll talk a little bit more about the install
in just a second.
We're also going to talk through the construction and a few of the features of these flares.
There are a few different reasons to replace the fender flares on your Jeep.
Either yours are faded or broken and you're just looking for a cleaner look.
You might be looking for an aftermarket upgraded rivet style flare, or you may need or want
a wider flare to give you complete tire coverage either because it keeps you legal, or you
just like to keep the tires from throwing junk up on the side of the Jeep.
Well, this set of flares from RedRock is going to give you all of that.
These are a 6-inch wide flare, that's about 2 3/4 inches wider than factory.
They have that rivet styling and they're going to be brand new and resist the chalking and
fading that your factory flares probably have being that even the newest TJ is about 10
years old now.
This is a complete set of all six flares including the mini flares behind the front tires and
it includes all of the hardware to get the installed.
Again, a very easy install.
As far as construction goes, as I said, these are a very well-built flare.
These are going to be made of a UV treated thermoplastic that's going to resist fading
and chalking like those factory flares often get, and these are going to do a nice job
of bending before they break if you do rub them on something on the trail.
They have this matte black finish which is a little bit different from your factory flares,
but from a distance they're going to give you that factory flare finish but, of course,
these are going to have a lot more style because they do have the pockets with the rivets.
Now, the rivets that you're getting with this, what you actually are seeing from the outside
of the Jeep is this socket head cap screw, which is a really nice feature.
Some of the other rivet style flares on the market actually just have a plastic kind of
rivet cover, screw cover that goes over a Philips head screw that aren't functional.
These are going to be very functional and they're also going to give you the look that
you're after.
These will, of course, accept your factory turn signal upfront which is a nice feature,
you don't have to go out and worry about having to pick up a new turn signal.
You already have your factory one and it'll bolt directly in here.
And this does also come with some weather-stripping, some trim.
That trim is going to go between your flare and the body of your Jeep to keep the new
flare from chaffing the body so if you were to ever remove these, put a different set
on, or replace them, you know that the paint behind them is gonna be solid.
As far as the install goes, again, this is a very simple one out of three wrench installation.
Give yourself about two hours to get this done, but this is going to be very simple.
The first step is, of course, removing your factory flares which you'll do by giving your
turn signal bolt a quarter turn removing the socket from the housing, and then just unbolting
the factory flares, front to back.
Now, in most spots you can get to the front and the back of the tub and the factory just
uses nut and bolt hardware to attach the flares.
However, in some spots you can't get to the back of the bolts so there's no nut, it's
actually a rivnut that's in the body of the Jeep.
Now, if there's a lot of rust on your Jeep, if that bolt is rusted into the rivnut, it
can just spin the nut in the body making it very difficult to remove that piece of hardware.
You'll often end up having to cut that hardware off and then there's not a good way of attaching
your new flare to the body without that rivnut in place.
So I definitely recommend spraying those rivnuts, especially with a good penetrating oil, well
before you get started with this install, multiple times, giving you the best chance
of removing the bolts from those rivnuts.
Again, once you work from the front to the back removing all of that factory hardware,
it's really just a matter of installing the trim on your new fender flares, installing
your turn signal into the flare, holding it up to the body, and use all of the included
hardware and spacers to attach it onto your Jeep.
The rear installs in much the same way but you will wanna remove that inner fender liner
before getting started that's gonna give you access to all of the factory nut and bolt
hardware you need to remove to get your factory flare off.
And the miniature flare also installs in much the same way, there's just three bolts, in
captured nuts, rivnuts in the body that you remove and bolt the new one up.
Just have your traditional hand tools around, about two hours of time, and about anybody
can do this in their driveway.
Overall, I think that these are very fairly priced for what you get.
I think they're well-built piece, they look good, they give you additional tire coverage,
they give you that rivet style you're looking for, they're gonna resist that UV fading and
cracking, and they're an easy install.
Now there is a Bushwacker version of these flares, and again, Bushwacker is going to
be one of the high-end fender flares on the market, but they're gonna be close to $500.
These ones are almost $250 less than those ones and I think you're still getting a really
nice flare.
So if you're looking for a wider than factory flare to give you some additional tire coverage
and you like the idea of having a rivet style flare, these are going to fit your needs,
they're going to be inexpensive compared to some of the other options, and they're going
to install on your TJ easily.
So that's my review of the RedRock 4x4 Rivet Style Fender Flare kit, fitting all 1997 to
2006 TJs, that you can find right here at extremeterrain.com.
