Waching daily Feb 2 2017

Hello my friends! Kaitlyn here! And let's do some yoga!

Um, when did this become a fitness channel?

(INTRO MUSIC)

Okay! So we're not actually gonna be doing yoga on the channel today,

BUT I have been doing a lot of yoga recently and I wanted to talk about it's awesomeness!

So I've been a fan of yoga since college when I first tried it and found I loved it

because it combined two of things I valued and needed--flexibility and breathing exercises.

Now there's a whole lot more to yoga than flexibility and breathing exercises but that

is where I started for me.

But once out of college, I was pretty apprehensive about taking public classes because

First I didn't have any money because I hadn't found a job yet and then when I did

find a job, the classes were offered at really inconvenient times

and I'd have to travel at least 30 minutes to get to the closest studio...so it was just a bust.

BUT THEN!

In January of 2015, I stumbled across on the Internet Yoga with Adriene's 30 Day Yoga challenge.

Pretty self-explanatory: guided yoga videos on Youtube.

A new one uploaded everyday in January.

And I thought. What the heck? It's free. I can do it in my bedroom. Why not?

And so began my love affair with yoga and Adriene's presentation of it.

As of this past Tuesday, I've completed my 3rd 30 day Yoga "Challenge" with Adriene, and I'm feeling awesome.

Especially awesome because this is the first year that I actually did yoga every day.

In the past, I would skip a day here or there when I was feeling sore or sick or just too busy.

Essentially, it made a month long challenge take like 2 months. Ah!

But this time, I was like: What will happen if I just stick with it.

Even if that means doing yoga at 11 pm or when I'm super sore or just feeling awful.

And yes, it did make for days where I did not enjoy the yoga.

But it has absolutely made me stronger.

So here's what I love about Adriene's program and channel in general.

(And why I would recommend you check it out, do some yoga videos and maybe even try a 30 day challenge!)

First, it's an "exercise" program that'smore about being in tune with your body than "getting ripped."

Now that's not to say it's not challenging or unable to get you in shape because

I was sweating and shaking doing these videos!

It's because of the 2nd thing I love about this channel which is that Adriene emphasizes a mindfulness for

your body and your mind which is something that I unfortunately had not experienced in other yoga classes.

It's not about slamming into different poses and trying to fit the "mold"

but rather about seeing where your body's at and listening to it and seeing what it's telling you.

I didn't really listen to my body until watching her videos.

I would just get angry at myself for not being able to do what I thought my body should do.

I have really horrific memories of high school where I was tryingto learn choreography for show choir

and I would practice in my room and fail and so I would hit and smack, like violently my legs and my

arms and try to punish my body to kick it into gear because it wasn't doing what I wanted.

But that's not how that works. And that is not healthy.

Adriene's motto is "Find What Feels Good" which I thought was kind of corny at the very beginning

but, man! When you finally learn how to listen to your body, you realize how important that is and what it means.

I want exercising -- being physical -- to feel good!

And it absolutely can!

Third, I find such a sense of peace.

Adriene is very positive but in a realistic way.

"Everything is as it should be."

She not only has us focus on working the physical body but also the emotional, spiritual one.

She asks you to get kind of raw, kind of silly, kind of open.

Which I think works really well when you're doing it from the comfort and safety of your home.

And I've definitely left some of these workouts feeling completely zen or just with chills.

As someone with pretty overwhelming anxiety, this is a very rare and great occurrence for me.

Now, I know there are probably classes that have more of this mindset than I've previously experienced.

And now that I'm living in a new, bigger city, I need to go out there and find it!

But I love Adriene and her channel for the positivity, the light, the self-love that she's projecting into the world.

All of this is to say, you should go try some yoga. Whether you you want to lose weight

Or be more flexible. Or you suffer from anxiety like me!

You can try Adrienne's channel or one of the many other yoga channels that are out there on YouTube.

Or you could even try a real, live, in-person class! I don't care how you do it!

But I know that it was beneficial for me so I think it might be beneficial for you too.

So what do you guys think?

Do love yoga or watch Adriene?

Do you think yoga's only for girls.... (cuz it's not!)

Tell me all your yoga-related thoughts down in the comments!

Plus remember to like, favorite, share, and subscribe if this video made you smile!

See you guys on Tuesday!

Smash School: Advanced (ft. Armada, Hbox, PewPewU, Shroomed and SFAT) - Duration: 5:08.

PewPewU: The first thing about the wavedash is

you have to be off the ground so, you know,

you can jump and right after you leave

the ground, you use your air dodge

and you aim it anywhere on the ground as well,

so that can be down, diagonal-left, diagonal-right,

all that stuff.

When you do those in combination

your character will slide

and [you're] pretty much free to use any of your

ground attacks or move out of it, so it's a

really good way to just move forward or

move back or even stop your movement

and cut an attack.

Wavedashing just

enables a lot of strategies in Smash,

so, for instance, like for Fox

it leads to kills.

For lots of other characters,

it can lead to that little

micro-spacing.

Sometimes it's hard

to move one step back in Smash because

when you take a -- when you move backwards

your character model will actually turn around.

Smash is a unique fighting game

in the way that you're not always facing

your opponent, so wavedash will allow

you to keep facing forward and take just

a baby step back and re-adjust.

Shroomed: Shield dropping is when you're shielding

on a platform and someone hits your

shield and you can do this input -

shield dropping - to where you will drop

your shield and fall through the platform and

you can immediately do an aerial out of your shield.

So it's a really strong technique

because it lets you retaliate from a

defensive position.

Back in the day before

we discovered it, you're just kind of in

a bad spot on the platform and you just

wanted to kind of get out of the

situation as fast as possible.

I mean, you still want to

do that even with shield dropping,

because people have adjusted,

but it's just given you a lot more freedom

on the platform.

Commentator: Speaking of shield drops...

Yeah.

SFAT: The shine is

Fox's down B

and it reflects projectiles,

like Samus missiles

lasers, turnips... but what it also --

what it's mostly used for is

when you hit an opponent,

depending on the opponent,

depending on their weight,

they'll either fall down to the shine

in which you can get like a jab reset

or some sort of tech chase follow-up.

Or... they don't fall down to shine, in which case,

you can wavedash, and you can grab them

up-smash them,

attack them in some certain way.

So, the shine is like a combo extender.

SFAT: The shine is like the greatest gimp

tool that is probably in the game.

SFAT: You know, if you shine someone off the stage

they're most likely going to die.

Commentator: Awww....

Oh, you're sick!

Up B him!

Aww...

Armada: Camping or defensive play, I think

camping is when you want to avoid

interaction with the other player as much

as possible so you're like shooting

projectiles and even if you might have

like an opening that could result in

something, you still decide to stay back.

It's hard to define and I feel like every

person and every player they have like

different opinions on what defines

defensive game and what defines camping.

So, I guess, a lot of people play

defensive some people play campy

overall it's probably more towards defensive.

They like, they prefer to go back,

but they go in sometimes.

Commentator: Alright, you know that Hungrybox

can take this stock at any percent ---

OHH AND HE DOES IT!

He does it.

Armada: With the way the meta game progressed

slow characters, they might get out-camped or

like the other one plays very defensive.

I feel like every top player I've played against

in tournament, they all start to like

play very defensive against me.

There's no exceptions.

No exceptions.

Hbox: L-Canceling is simply when

your character does an aerial and as you're

falling down with the aerial you go into

someone's shield or to fall into someone --

It's like an approach, like a normal in Street Fighter,

It's when you

input an L-Cancel, it makes it so

you can get up from that move faster.

So there's much less recoil.

So, in some ways, like Fox, for instance,

he can do a bunch of aerials into your shield and

you won't be able to grab him.

Because he can do an aerial,

like a drill, L-Cancel it and

then immediately go into a shine or another move,

or a grab himself.

So L-Canceling is a very...

It's like the segue from one move to another.

And it allows for a much faster,

more efficient play.

I guess so I could put it.

And it's absolutely a hundred-

thousand percent completely necessary,

in high-level Melee.

There's no 'ifs', 'ands' or 'buts' about it.

You need to L-Cancel.

LAX Protest Following Muslim Travel Ban - Duration: 5:52.

Crowd: "...ho ho

Donald Trump has got to go.

Hey hey, ho ho

Donald Trump has got to go.

hello there is Christopher from Life

Interpreted. Today I want to talk about

something i think is very serious which

is president Trump's recent ban on

traveling to and from seven countries in

the Middle East which a lot of

progressives and Democrats and people

who are paying attention really refer to

what it is which is a Muslim ban. When i

first heard about this ban I was very

upset, just like many Americans across

the country. This didn't reflect the country

that I grew up in the one that I knew

which is one that welcomed immigrants

and refugees in particular. When I first

heard about this band I wanted to do

something about it and of course, you

know, there's not a lot that once you can

do right? Well it turns out that when you

all show up the protest together that

you have a much stronger, more powerful

voice so when I heard that there was a

protest going to happen at LAX, at the

Tom Bradley International Terminal, I had

to be a part of it.

"Turn right on Santa Monica Blvd."

It was on Saturday at 1pm.

Some friends and I decided to go check it out and

it was amazing what I saw.

Before we even arrived at the terminal you could hear how

loud and thunderous the chanting was

it was echoing off the parking garages.

Thousands of people were already gathered there

with their signs and chanting

and yet people were still flooding in

every minute. It was just just this overwhelming and

powerful moment. it was really moving

just to see these people join together

and say we don't want to be the kind of

country that does this you are defining

who we are and I think it's important

for the world feed American standing up

and speaking out for what's right there

were a few Pro Trump supporters and one

guy in particular had a lot to save it

and while I don't agree with his opinion

it was nice to have someone articulated

in a relatively intelligent man it's not

taking

while I did CW look with lockers mainly

stayed out of the way and I think that

they were content to just kind of sit

back in calling for demonstration will

be people that they would sort of remain

outside

one particularly powerful moment I'll

never forget what this protest was when

i came across a group of Muslim men and

women praying somebody have rolled out

these long brown paper matte to them to

kneel on and a group of non-muslim

people were standing around holding

hands and keeping the crowds at bay from

interrupting their now I'm not religious

person in fact I'm kind of the opposite

i'm pretty much an atheist but I still

respect night admire people who have

that kind of shape and i think it was

really powerful for them to display it

openly and what's become a hostile

country really towards what they believe

and I think we need more I think we need

more people standing up for what they

believe for people being who they are

and not being afraid they are the only

way we're going to make it to the four

years if we come together if we respect

each other's differences and we

celebrate each other's differences and

we continue to show up

I think the best thing that's happened

from this whole Donald Trump the bottle

really is the wave unified people to be

civically engaged in a way that they

haven't been for many many years and I

think that we're starting to waken up

again to the importance of being

involved in participating in our

democracy democracies might not be

exactly i think Winston Churchill said

the marketers that works for the

government decides all those other forms

of government seven tries to many times

I couldn't agree more it's imperfect but

it becomes closer to perfect the more

that people participate and more this

show up in more that their voices are

heard and the more educated they are on

the issues so i think going forward what

we need the next four years if people

who stay engaged to stay involved in

learning and by learning I mean try new

experiences new people that is different

than you engage in conversation and more

importantly show show tennis overstate

things we need to show up in our

democracy people to work and for us to

build a better future

A Short History Of Humans And Germs: Early Encounters | Goats & Soda | NPR - Duration: 2:41.

Humans get along pretty well with most microbes.

Which is lucky, because there are a lot more of them in the world than there are of us.

We couldn't even live without many of them.

But a few hundred have evolved, and are still evolving,

to exploit our bodies in ways that can make us really sick.

These are the microbes we call germs.

Like Plague, HIV, SARS, Ebola, Zika and a whole gang of others.

This is a series is about where germs come from.

When we Homo sapiens started to evolve as a new species,

we inherited many of the microbes that came from our early human ancestors.

But many of today's most-feared diseases didn't exist yet.

Scientists think a lot of these diseases probably came from other animals.

Like this monkey here.

Let's take a closer look at what's happening inside this guy.

He happens to be carrying a nasty bug. It's a virus.

It's taken control of many of his cells and ordered them to make more copies of itself.

But some of these copies aren't exact.

And eventually, one happens to emerge with an accidental superpower ...

This superpower monkey virus now has the ability to infect us.

It sneaks past our immune system's defenses, gets into our cells, and starts making copies.

And then this happens ...

Luckily, humans were so few and far between that this new virus can't find any more humans to infect.

That first mutant virus doesn't get very far.

But after many thousands of years, something big starts to change.

Humans discovered agriculture.

This means we start to settle down, cut down the forest to make way for crops

and get comfortable.

We start having larger families and more neighbors

because there's more food.

We still like to eat the occasional monkey when we can get our hands on him.

But look what happens now ...

I win!

Mmmm. No.

In nearly every outbreak, some people get lucky and have a mutation or two that helps their bodies

defeat the new virus.

They move away. And maybe build a new settlement.

So ... We win?

Mmmm. Not quite.

and back in it again.

omg man. surely it was warded.

nice poke.

oh wait, that's warwick.

argh that minion.

whatever let's zhonyas, whatever.

they can do what they want.

Profiles in Tremendousness - SCOTUS Nominee Neil Gorsuch: The Daily Show - Duration: 7:58.

All right, let's move on now to less serious news.

-The Supreme Court. -(laughter)

Last night America was finally introduced

to Donald Trump's pick for the highest court in the land,

and he comes from the highest state in the land.

NEWSMAN: The president announcing

conservative Neil Gorsuch, a federal appeals court judge

from Denver, who he praised for having a brilliant mind

and tremendous discipline.

He is the man of our country,

and a man who our country really needs and needs badly.

(laughter)

I-Is Trump introducing a judge

or reading Supreme Court erotic fiction?

(laughter)

(like Trump): America needed Judge Gorsuch badly.

(laughter)

It reached its trembling hand under Justice Gorsuch's robe

to feel his supple yet tender thigh.

(laughter)

Here's how you know we're living in Trump's America now.

This appointment is for the top court in the land,

that rules over an entire branch of government.

It's a lifetime appointment that could shape American society

for the next 40 years.

And you can tell that Trump understood

the gravity of the situation, because he treated it

like an episode of a reality show.

NEWSWOMAN: This drama, orchestrated by Trump,

resembling an Apprentice style announcement tonight...

NEWSMAN: Sources say the choices come down to two men,

both of whom have reportedly come to Washington tonight,

almost like some kind of reality TV show.

...Judge Neil Gorsuch.

(applause)

So, was that a surprise? Was it?

(laughter)

Who cares if it's a surprise?

The point of picking a Supreme Court justice isn't "gotcha!"

It's a judge, not a jack-in-the-box.

What are you doing?

I mean, who announces a Supreme Court nominee like this?

Trump even teased his selection on Twitter.

This is what he tweeted.

He said, "I have made my decision on who I will nominate

"for the United States Supreme Court.

"It will be announced live on Tuesday at 8:00 p.m.

Parentheses, White House."

I love how, I love how he puts White House after 8:00 p.m.,

as if we don't know where to find him.

-That's where he... -(laughter)

He treats it like a TV show.

"Tune in Tuesday, 8:00 p.m.

Only on White House."

-Only on White House. -(cheering and applause)

Who is this man?

Like, I wouldn't be shocked if in a few years

you're gonna be watching TV and Trump's gonna pop up

at the bottom of the screen with, like, you know,

"My new law, coming up."

It's gonna be one of those things.

Just like him walking out,

just like, ah, what the hell?

It's happening for real?

(cheering and applause)

Get out of here, man!

Get out of my show!

Get-get out of my show!

The man is so obsessed with entertainment,

he even included an extra judge.

He included an extra judge just to build suspense,

which turned CNN into TMZ.

TV REPORTER: Just hours before the president's

big prime-time announcement,

CNN caught up with one of his two top contenders,

Judge Thomas Hardiman, on his way to Washington,

stopping to gas up in Bedford, Pennsylvania.

REPORTER: Can I ask about your trip to D.C.?

Are you the potential Supreme Court pick?

Shame, guys.

That poor judge.

The dude is going for a D.C. job interview

and he's getting treated like he just (bleep) a Kardashian.

Totally not cool.

These are serious judges

who deserve to be treated with respect.

So with that said, let's learn more about the man

who actually got the rose,

in tonight's installment of Profiles in Tremendousness.

I have the most dedicated people.

I have the best people. I know the best people.

We're gonna use our best people.

I have the smartest people in the world.

I know guys that are so good.

So good.

So who is Neil Gorsuch?

Well, not only is he a federal judge

on the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals,

he's also a part-time Cialis spokesperson.

So you know he's not soft on crime.

And though there are some objections, you know,

people saying, "Oh, another white dude who went to Harvard."

On the Supreme Court, some say Gorsuch qualifies

as a diversity pick.

All of the members of the court currently are either Catholic

or Jewish, but judge Gorsuch is a Protestant, an Episcopalian.

Oh.

Change.

And so, yo, can we be real for a second?

America has so many flavors of Caucasian, it's insane.

No, like, sometimes it feels like I need

a white person sommelier

to, like, pick up the subtle differences.

He'd be like, "Mmm. I'm picking up notes of, mmm.

"Oh, yes Episcopalian with just...

with just a hint of Colorado. Yes, yes."

And I'm just like, "I'm just smelling white guy.

That's all I get."

Now, look, elections do have consequences.

And one of those consequences

is that the president-- unless he's Obama--

gets to appoint a Supreme Court justice of his choice.

And that's exactly what Donald Trump has done.

TV REPORTER: Gorsuch sided with religious groups

seeking exemption

from the contraceptive requirements in Obamacare.

TV REPORTER: He is a staunch supporter

of the death penalty and gun rights.

Against abortion rights.

Against affirmative action.

Against gay rights.

He's very conservative. A lot of people think

he might be more conservative than Scalia.

God damn.

That guy's conservative.

I bet the GOP elephant is jizzing

out of its trunk right now.

He's like... (trumpeting)

And, I mean, you've got to give the Republicans props.

I don't know what else to say.

Because Obama appointed Merrick Garland

with almost a year left in his presidency.

Republicans, they stalled,

you know, refused a hearing,

made up bull (bleep) excuses

about why it couldn't, shouldn't, wouldn't be done.

It wasn't nothing but petulant bad behavior for an entire year,

and in the end, they were rewarded

with everything they wanted.

Imagine trying to raise a child in this world.

What do you say to them?

And so I hope you learned your lesson, Billy.

(bleep) you, Dad.

That's my boy.

I mean, not only do they get to fill Scalia's seat

with a like-minded jurist, they found a man

who admires Scalia so much it hurts.

The world suffered a seismic shock

with the loss of Justice Scalia.

A few weeks ago, I was taking a breather

in the middle of a ski run, with little on my mind

but the next mogul field before me

when the phone rang with the news.

I immediately lost what breath I had left.

And I'm not admit... embarrassed to admit

that I couldn't see the rest of the way down the mountain

for the tears.

Wow.

That is sad.

He was crying when he heard the news of Justice Scalia,

who had passed. A really touching story.

And also...

the whitest thing I've ever heard.

In the middle of skiing,

you got a call?

I mean, and then you had to carry on going down.

I'm... I mean, I'm just like, how do you do that?

Skiing is so much fun.

You're just there like, "Wait what?

What happened? No."

(crying)

It's Time To Get A Watch | Giveaway! - Duration: 7:36.

(marker scratching)

(electronic game chime)

So if you want to get a watch similar to this,

but of your choice with free credit and free shipping,

stay tuned for the rest of the video.

Hello!

So I have a bit of a story time video for you

and not in the terms of,

"My Uber driver took a wrong turn,

therefore I'm being kidnapped."

kinda story time.

I mean like an actual,

just like we were sitting around a campfire

and I am your grandpa or I guess grandma

and then I tell you a story about

how the way things were 30 years ago.

So you know every single time when if you ask your dad,

normally it's always when it's your dad or your grandpa

or really any other male authority figure in your life.

So you know when you always ask 'em what time it is

because you're just, I dunno, walkin' around somewhere and

being like, "Hey dad, what time is it?"

and then you know what they say, "Time to get a watch."

Every time without fail,

and then maybe they'll actually tell you what time it is,

but for the most part it's always starting out with,

"Frankie, it's time to get a watch."

And you know what the problem with that is?

Never in my life have I been able to find the perfect watch,

except for a Pikachu watch,

but I cannot always use that for every single occasion

that happens in my life.

You know people always say that watches are dead now,

but I like to think that they're not.

Now this is funny coming from somebody who

doesn't really wear watches,

but I've always wanted to.

It was just hard finding a good watch

that I would always wear,

or that went with my style you know?

That's one of the hardest things.

Especially when you're not really sure

what your style is.

So I'm a public speaker, right,

and I've gotta keep track of the time, you know.

At VidCon, you have an hour.

Most of the time you have an hour,

and although you do have people in the back

that hold up signs that say,

"30 minutes left", "15 minutes left",

Sometimes you miss those people or if you're anywhere

at any other conference that won't have that

you wanna know what time it is, right?

And if you're the one actually doing a talk

and you need to know what time it is,

like you need to make sure you're right on time,

I just feel like it's not always appropriate to

pull out your big old iPhone and, you know.

Like, it just takes up so much time to go find your iPhone,

and then you gotta make sure it's in your hand,

and then click on it and all this other stuff,

and then you gotta go put it back down,

and you gotta make sure you do it nicely,

otherwise it's gonna fall off the table and then crack,

and then you're screwed out of another

however much it costs to get it replaced.

So I like the idea of watches because

you can just do this ever so casually,

and then put your arm back down.

It's like a natural movement if you're talking,

if you're using a mic or if you're just doing

this hand motion.

Oh look, I am just casually and gracefully

checking the time on my watch.

Am I weird?

I'm weird, I know.

Probably everybody watching this is like,

"Rikki, what the hell are you talking about?"

Now as a public speaker,

or someone trying to get more of these gigs and whatnot,

that comes with dressing a little more appropriately,

unless you're at VidCon, then nobody really cares.

But if you're going to a school, a college,

you wanna look a little bit more...

put together; you don't need to be the fanciest person.

You don't need to wear a tux, obviously,

but I like to wear some really nice jeans,

a nice top, always like a blazer, I'm a blazer fanatic,

and there's always something that I felt missing,

and that was a watch.

But I couldn't find the right watch and I can't really

bring the Pikachu watch.

I probably could and they probably wouldn't care as much,

but I would just probably feel silly.

Said the girl who wore a Pikachu necklace

on the red carpet at Buffer Festival.

But I feel like that's different.

That's just about me.

It's different.

But now I feel like I finally got a good watch that

just goes with everything and fits what I'm looking for,

and that is this watch by JORD Watches.

This particular one is from their Frankie series,

and it is the Zebrawood and Champagne one.

They have a lot of options for men, women, whatever

you identify as.

There's something for everyone and it's just very,

you know, clean looking.

So if you're having trouble with a clean-looking watch

that doesn't look too over the top or too "eh".

I just, I really like this.

If you look at the close up, you will see that

the wood is just so nice looking,

and it's not too dark but it's not too light,

which is what I personally like,

and this color combination works.

It's really big so you don't have to squint

unless you have really bad eyesight,

you don't wanna have to squint at it and be like,

"Okay, what does this say?"

It's easy to just quickly look at it and then put it down.

And it's comfortable.

They do have a measuring system,

so you measure your wrist and then they round it up

to the nearest fourth of an inch or something.

It's a little teensy bit tight sometimes,

but when you get the box it has another, like...

Thing that comes with it.

I haven't tested it out yet because I don't feel like

this is too much of a struggle to put on.

It's just really sleek and nice looking and I like it.

The only thing that kinda drives me bonkers,

and I think this is just because of me and my brain really,

is that I always have trouble putting it on.

When I filmed the close up I was constantly

struggling with putting it on,

and when I had my streaming,

my editing stream,

people saw how much I struggled with getting it on,

and it's this part right here.

You have a little clasp so it makes it very long right,

and I would just keep doing this and it was so difficult.

I couldn't figure out how to get it on.

I think with plenty of practice now,

ow.

Ow, it's piercing my skin.

That's the tightness problem I tend to have,

but finally...

Ow.

You clip it on and then you get stuck again.

I advertise well, I know.

But then, okay...

Voila.

We have it on.

Yay!

So it's really easy to take off and put on as long as

you can figure out which side goes first.

I tend to mix that up all the time.

I... Okay.

So with all that being said,

let's skip to the part that you're actually

really excited for.

The giveaway.

I know,

I'm a YouTube viewer too.

I like free things.

Come on, come on.

I know.

So the prize is store credit to JORD.

You will get $139.95

plus free shipping.

We love free shipping.

I know we do, right?

Now this watch retails for $189,

so you get a pretty good discount

if you wanted this particular one.

In fact I'm pretty sure the whole line is $189.

So you have a set price point,

per whatever...

line you're looking at.

So to get that store credit there's a link down below,

so you can go to that,

click on it,

enter your name,

your email,

whatever is on there and then send it off.

The giveaway will last for two weeks,

so you got two weeks to get up on that.

Once midnight hits,

the winner will be emailed as well as those who don't win,

so therefore if you accidentally forgot

when the giveaway ended, you will know that

whether or not you didn't win.

So if you didn't win,

which I apologize in advance,

there is still a coupon code for 15% off your purchase,

which is right here,

and the store still offers free shipping regardless,

so you win a little there,

a little bit if you find anything that you like.

So if you enter the giveaway,

good luck and I wanna see what kind of watch

that you choose.

If you wanna follow me on all of my social media links,

that will be down below.

If you wanna help support my content,

you can do so by pledging to be a patron on Patreon

or leaving a tip on ko-fi.

Both links to that will be down below.

I upload every Monday and Thursday unless otherwise stated,

and I will see you later.

Bye.

Trump Threatens US Berkeley's Federal Funding After Students Protest Racist Breitbart Reporter - Duration: 4:05.

Earlier this week the University of California, Berkeley, was forced to cancel an appearance

by right-winged Breitbart hate monger, Milo Yiannopoulos.

Apologies if I'm pronouncing your name wrong.

Honest to god, I don't care.

Anyway, Milo went there to give a speech sponsored by the college Republicans at UC Berkeley.

Unfortunately, after thousands of people showed up to protest Milo's involvement, the speech

had to be canceled.

He was escorted off property.

Police officers had to come out and announce that the event was canceled.

In short, the students at UC Berkeley did not want a Breitbart spokesperson, somebody

who has ties to white nationalists, somebody to defends white nationalists, and somebody

who's actually been banned from Twitter for their erratic, and irresponsible, and dangerous

behavior, they didn't want that person speaking at their campus to the minds of all of these

young students.

They stood up, exercised their First Amendment freedoms, and got him kicked off the campus.

In response, Donald Trump tweets out the following morning that maybe he should pull federal

funding from UC Berkeley if they're not going to allow differing opinions, if they're going

to trample on the First Amendment.

Now, here's what Donald Trump, who is not a constitutional scholar, he is not a constitutional

lawyer, probably a guy that can't even spell constitution, here's what he doesn't understand

about the First Amendment; the protestors, the people who got this speech canceled, that

was the First Amendment in action.

As far as Milo's speech being canceled, that really was just a business decision.

The Republicans, the college Republicans, they are the ones who paid for this, it turns

out that, because of all the protestors, they realized probably not going to make their

money back.

Because Milo was maybe scared, he went along with it.

The college has full discretion over what gets canceled, what goes on.

Happens all the time.

Colleges book comedians.

Sometimes the comedian will say something that's less than savory, they get canceled.

Bill Maher got canceled for his statements on Islam.

Where were you there, Donald Trump?

Probably right there with him.

You see, just because you have a hateful belief, or horrible things to say, doesn't mean that

you get to say it.

That's not what freedom of speech is all about, Donald Trump.

Hate speech is not okay.

If a federally funded institution in the United States says, "We're not going to give a platform

to somebody to spew their hate speech," you can't fight that.

It incites violence.

It incites hatred.

There's a very, very, strong precedent for getting rid of this kind of speech in the

United States.

It is not further discussion.

It does not further knowledge.

It does nothing but incite hatred and violence, and therefore is not protected speech.

That's something that you need to understand, Donal Trump, if you're going to be a defender

of the Constitution.

Instead, you decide to go on Twitter and threaten this university that's been around a hell

of a lot longer than you, it's going to be around a hell of a lot longer than you will

be, and you threaten to pull their federal funding just because the students at that

university had the courage to stand up to this hate peddler from Breitbart and say,

"Not today."

That is what America is all about.

If a story moves you, act on it | Sisonke Msimang - Duration: 12:47.

So earlier this year,

I was informed that I would be doing a TED Talk.

So I was excited, then I panicked,

then I was excited, then I panicked,

and in between the excitement and the panicking,

I started to do my research,

and my research primarily consisted of Googling how to give a great TED Talk.

(Laughter)

And interspersed with that,

I was Googling Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

How many of you know who that is?

(Cheers)

So I was Googling her because I always Google her

because I'm just a fan,

but also because she always has important and interesting things to say.

And the combination of those searches

kept leading me to her talk

on the dangers of a single story,

on what happens when we have a solitary lens

through which to understand certain groups of people,

and it is the perfect talk.

It's the talk that I would have given if I had been famous first.

(Laughter)

You know, and you know, like, she's African and I'm African,

and she's a feminist and I'm a feminist,

and she's a storyteller and I'm a storyteller,

so I really felt like it's my talk.

(Laughter)

So I decided that I was going to learn how to code,

and then I was going to hack the internet

and I would take down all the copies of that talk that existed,

and then I would memorize it,

and then I would come here and deliver it as if it was my own speech.

So that plan was going really well, except the coding part,

and then one morning a few months ago,

I woke up

to the news that the wife of a certain presidential candidate

had given a speech that --

(Laughter)

(Applause)

that sounded eerily like a speech given by one of my other faves,

Michelle Obama.

(Cheers)

And so I decided that I should probably write my own TED Talk,

and so that is what I am here to do.

I'm here to talk about my own observations about storytelling.

I want to talk to you about the power of stories, of course,

but I also want to talk about their limitations,

particularly for those of us who are interested in social justice.

So since Adichie gave that talk seven years ago,

there has been a boom in storytelling.

Stories are everywhere,

and if there was a danger in the telling of one tired old tale,

then I think there has got to be lots to celebrate about the flourishing

of so many stories and so many voices.

Stories are the antidote to bias.

In fact, today, if you are middle class and connected via the internet,

you can download stories at the touch of a button

or the swipe of a screen.

You can listen to a podcast

about what it's like to grow up Dalit in Kolkata.

You can hear an indigenous man in Australia

talk about the trials and triumphs of raising his children in dignity

and in pride.

Stories make us fall in love.

They heal rifts and they bridge divides.

Stories can even make it easier for us

to talk about the deaths of people in our societies

who don't matter, because they make us care.

Right?

I'm not so sure,

and I actually work for a place called the Centre for Stories.

And my job is to help to tell stories

that challenge mainstream narratives about what it means to be black

or a Muslim or a refugee or any of those other categories

that we talk about all the time.

But I come to this work

after a long history as a social justice activist,

and so I'm really interested in the ways

that people talk about nonfiction storytelling

as though it's about more than entertainment,

as though it's about being a catalyst for social action.

It's not uncommon to hear people say

that stories make the world a better place.

Increasingly, though, I worry that even the most poignant stories,

particularly the stories about people who no one seems to care about,

can often get in the way of action towards social justice.

Now, this is not because storytellers mean any harm.

Quite the contrary.

Storytellers are often do-gooders like me and, I suspect, yourselves.

And the audiences of storytellers

are often deeply compassionate and empathetic people.

Still, good intentions can have unintended consequences,

and so I want to propose that stories are not as magical as they seem.

So three -- because it's always got to be three --

three reasons why I think

that stories don't necessarily make the world a better place.

Firstly, stories can create an illusion of solidarity.

There is nothing like that feel-good factor you get

from listening to a fantastic story

where you feel like you climbed that mountain, right,

or that you befriended that death row inmate.

But you didn't.

You haven't done anything.

Listening is an important

but insufficient step towards social action.

Secondly, I think often we are drawn

towards characters and protagonists

who are likable and human.

And this makes sense, of course, right?

Because if you like someone, then you care about them.

But the inverse is also true.

If you don't like someone,

then you don't care about them.

And if you don't care about them,

you don't have to see yourself as having a moral obligation

to think about the circumstances that shaped their lives.

I learned this lesson when I was 14 years old.

I learned that actually, you don't have to like someone

to recognize their wisdom,

and you certainly don't have to like someone

to take a stand by their side.

So my bike was stolen

while I was riding it --

(Laughter)

which is possible if you're riding slowly enough, which I was.

(Laughter)

So one minute I'm cutting across this field

in the Nairobi neighborhood where I grew up,

and it's like a very bumpy path,

and so when you're riding a bike,

you don't want to be like, you know --

(Laughter)

And so I'm going like this, slowly pedaling,

and all of a sudden, I'm on the floor.

I'm on the ground, and I look up,

and there's this kid peddling away in the getaway vehicle,

which is my bike,

and he's about 11 or 12 years old, and I'm on the floor,

and I'm crying because I saved a lot of money for that bike,

and I'm crying and I stand up and I start screaming.

Instinct steps in, and I start screaming, "Mwizi, mwizi!"

which means "thief" in Swahili.

And out of the woodworks, all of these people come out

and they start to give chase.

This is Africa, so mob justice in action.

Right?

And I round the corner, and they've captured him,

they've caught him.

The suspect has been apprehended,

and they make him give me my bike back,

and they also make him apologize.

Again, you know, typical African justice, right?

And so they make him say sorry.

And so we stand there facing each other,

and he looks at me, and he says sorry,

but he looks at me with this unbridled fury.

He is very, very angry.

And it is the first time that I have been confronted with someone

who doesn't like me simply because of what I represent.

He looks at me with this look as if to say,

"You, with your shiny skin and your bike, you're angry at me?"

So it was a hard lesson that he didn't like me,

but you know what, he was right.

I was a middle-class kid living in a poor country.

I had a bike, and he barely had food.

Sometimes, it's the messages that we don't want to hear,

the ones that make us want to crawl out of ourselves,

that we need to hear the most.

For every lovable storyteller who steals your heart,

there are hundreds more whose voices are slurred and ragged,

who don't get to stand up on a stage dressed in fine clothes like this.

There are a million angry-boy-on-a-bike stories

and we can't afford to ignore them

simply because we don't like their protagonists

or because that's not the kid that we would bring home with us

from the orphanage.

The third reason that I think

that stories don't necessarily make the world a better place

is that too often we are so invested in the personal narrative

that we forget to look at the bigger picture.

And so we applaud someone

when they tell us about their feelings of shame,

but we don't necessarily link that to oppression.

We nod understandingly when someone says they felt small,

but we don't link that to discrimination.

The most important stories, especially for social justice,

are those that do both,

that are both personal and allow us to explore and understand the political.

But it's not just about the stories we like

versus the stories we choose to ignore.

Increasingly, we are living in a society where there are larger forces at play,

where stories are actually for many people beginning to replace the news.

Yeah?

We live in a time where we are witnessing the decline of facts,

when emotions rule

and analysis, it's kind of boring, right?

Where we value what we feel more than what we actually know.

A recent report by the Pew Center on trends in America

indicates that only 10 percent of young adults under the age of 30

"place a lot of trust in the media."

Now, this is significant.

It means that storytellers are gaining trust

at precisely the same moment

that many in the media are losing the confidence in the public.

This is not a good thing,

because while stories are important

and they help us to have insights in many ways,

we need the media.

From my years as a social justice activist,

I know very well that we need credible facts from media institutions

combined with the powerful voices of storytellers.

That's what pushes the needle forward in terms of social justice.

In the final analysis, of course,

it is justice

that makes the world a better place,

not stories. Right?

And so if it is justice that we are after,

then I think we mustn't focus on the media or on storytellers.

We must focus on audiences,

on anyone who has ever turned on a radio

or listened to a podcast,

and that means all of us.

So a few concluding thoughts

on what audiences can do to make the world a better place.

So firstly, the world would be a better place, I think,

if audiences were more curious and more skeptical

and asked more questions about the social context

that created those stories that they love so much.

Secondly, the world would be a better place

if audiences recognized that storytelling is intellectual work.

And I think it would be important for audiences

to demand more buttons on their favorite websites,

buttons for example that say,

"If you liked this story,

click here to support a cause your storyteller believes in."

Or "click here to contribute to your storyteller's next big idea."

Often, we are committed to the platforms,

but not necessarily to the storytellers themselves.

And then lastly, I think that audiences can make the world a better place

by switching off their phones,

by stepping away from their screens

and stepping out into the real world beyond what feels safe.

Alice Walker has said,

"Look closely at the present you are constructing.

It should look like the future you are dreaming."

Storytellers can help us to dream,

but it's up to all of us to have a plan for justice.

Thank you.
