Welcome everybody on the 16th of August 2016 on today's first trip.
Yes, the daring plan is making two trips on one day,
and with the first we're going to conquer Csodavár (The Miraculous Fortress).
The trail is marked with the blue spot –
the board is wet from the night's heavy rain.
It is not apparent on the road,
but deep down the terrain is probably soaked and muddy.
Unfortunately the sun is still not smiling at us,
the sky is quite sullen.
Anyway, let's start it, we won't give up!
This is the first junction on the track,
the yellow spot leaves us towards the Galbena circuit
and the balconies,
we follow the blue further on, this descends to the abyss.
Our fellow hikers have also arrived
finally…
yes, this was implied criticism.
We're heading downwards
into the dolina,
precisely dolina 1 will be seen first.
As suspected at the start,
everything is soaked,
this may turn unpleasant on the way out.
The ramp ahead is the collar of the dolina.
The first climb was a really short one,
although apparently many shit their pants makin' it.
From here we have a long, steep descent ahead,
it won't be exactly easy on this slippery terrain.
The angle of the slope is considerable,
moreover, grabbing the trees immediately punishes with a cold shower.

Unfortunately
the civilization – or rather the lack of it – has reached the place…

This is a very popular trail,
and apparently also among Romanians.
I don't want to claim that only they are guilty,
however the garbage usually has romanian labels.
This is not chauvinism or hostility from my side.
Ahh, there again…
O.K., I stop this, let's concentrate on the nice things only.
Quite a performance to get down to the gorge;
I started to sweat.
Dolina 1. in sight;
no not this one, but everything around.
This small swale is just a teaser for what's coming.
Through the woods I see something…
Let's take a few more steps for the better view – it's gonna be spectacular.
A warning to preserve nature…
Here we are, this view is going to rule the screen for a while;
It is the portal of the Csodavár cave, 70+ meters high.
Some sources say 72, others 76;
I cannot decide which one is correct, but anyway, it's huge.
The path is getting viciously wild from here,
the via ferrata helps, thou.
At the start this is an old rope, under such slippery conditions I guess it's necessary.
This part is more and more serious,
with chains, however it is quite comfortably accesibble.
Thou it's not really hardcore, I still holster the camera, I'll film only from below.
From frog perspective the slope looks like this;
I'm still grabbing the cable, we've got some more to go.
The camera captures it poorly, so believe me, this is challenging.
I'm on the Photo-cliff now;
The portal behind is getting closer.
The name Photo-cliff comes from me;
usually people shoot from here, the portal appears nicely in the background,
even the blue spot is visible on the wall,
and, of course the monkey in the foreground.
We're still descending, another via ferrata section is in sight.

Btw. this mossy, rocky slope is a riverbed;
just a little more 'till there.

with wet weather there is a stream flowing.
Although it rained heavily in the night, looks like this wasn't enough in August to make the water appear.
The other creek, however, sounds quite in form today.
At this point we can choose between the hardcore and the lazy path;
the hard one (on amateur level of course)
gets into the cave and goes through it.
The comfty one uses the stairs over here,
jumps over the saddle and descends into dolina 2…no, dolina 3!
Dolina 2 branches out from the cave.
I guess we're getting further down;
won't enter the cave from this side, the other is safer.
I will also try to peak in dolina 2.
I've descended through the lubricated rocks;
just some grease was missing from the chains to make it even funnier.
From this point the path is placid again…
and we're almost at the bottom…
one more chain bit ahead, and looks like I have to use it.
Apparently this climbdown is not a piece of cake.
The usual warning board with the phone number of the mountain rescue;
not a bad idea.
As mentioned previously, the hardcore trip leads through the cave,
meaning getting into
that relatively small entrance.
From the stream's roar I assume that the water is quite high now,
therefore the cave trip is not possible at the moment.
I've been through several times, but unfortunately I have no footage about it.
The most critical section is the entrance, and a few more spots in the first branch.
The stream comes from there and descends on the left side.
Yesterday on Ponor-meadow I've mentioned that I'll show where the stream next appears;
well, exactly here.
It is „out" – although still inside the portal – for 30 meters only,
enters the cave and reappears again in the Galbena spring – you'll see tomorrow.
This is the way to dolina 2;
to be sincere I don't feel like climbing there.
Way up shouldn't be a problem, but downwards on the wet gravel isn't too comfortable.
The dolina's walls are 120-150 meters high,
I may insert a photo here…
Our small group steadily climbes downwards.
I've carefully got out to the margin of the slope to get a better view on the stream.
It breaks out at that exit,
jumps down the two falls and disappears among the huge boulders.
From distance the boulders don't look scary,
however they are 4-5 meters high; entering the cave means sliding down on the side of one,
right into a knee-deep puddle.
No, I won't do that today.
From the other entrance we'll progress as far as we can,
however, surely not this far, but enough deep to help you imagine the inside of the cave.
The light conditions change every second;
this side was sunny and bright, while the other misty and infernal.
The mysterious fortress doesn't confute its name.
O.K., don't blame me that I'm a sluggard – I pulled myself together to climb closer to dolina 2;
I hope you can picture it better now.
I won't climb any further thou, the next section is obviously very steep and slippery.
Out of the abyss again;
to illustrate the dimensions: the portal is so huge that there's enough room in it for a cloud.
So now let's continue on the comfty path
indeed this is not more than going to the fifth floor.
This little ridge divides dolinas 1 and 3;
where the comfty path still continues for a while.
