Although I have Chinese blood i never have the chance

to learn Chinese properly well, is never to learn

right now im learning on my own

and it's been over a year living here in Taiwan

Nearly half of all Donald Trump voters believe that Pizzagate is real and a pedophilia ring

is operating in Washington, a recent poll suggests.

The Economist/YouGov poll released Tuesday shows that 46% of Trump voters believe the

�Pizzagate� investigation, which began as an organic citizen investigation on popular

sites like 4chan and Reddit ahead of Election Day before gaining momentum on Twitter and

Facebook.

The survey results suggest mainstream media has lost its ability to influence the public,

as people go to the internet to investigate issues themselves rather than listening to

talking heads on TV.

Mainstream media continues to refuse to lay out the Pizzagate evidence for readers to

analyze, instead instructing them to take their word for the fact it is �preposterous.�

Whatever your views of fake news and where it comes from, Pizzagate does not qualify.

It is an organic citizen investigation that has amassed a huge haystack of evidence that

demands professional inquiry.

But even the media�s attempts to portray the scandal as �preposterous� has not

dissuaded a large block of Trump voters from believing the conspiracy.

The poll, which was conducted between Dec. 17 and 20, also showed that Trump voters were

far less likely than Clinton voters to fall for the joint report from the CIA and the

FBI that claimed Russia meddled in the election, without providing any evidence to back up

the claims.

A whopping 80% of Trump voters claimed that the intelligence community�s conclusion

was simply �not true.�

�Sometimes it seems that Americans will believe anything,� the poll takers stated.

You both wait some time before you go to a shrine. -That's right.

Hey it's Cathy Cat and today we have the pleasure to ask

foreigners and Japanese people and compare,

on the issue of how they celebrate the New Year.

New Year's in Japan is a BIG deal and it might be very different

compared to your country.

Let's go and ask Japanese and foreigners.

On New Year's it's a tradition that we go to my dad's parent's house.

We pray in front of the house shrine. A very traditional Japanese New Year.

- That's traditional. - It is!

What tradition is it?

We have a household shrine and make our prayers there.

I am from the countryside, so around our house there are only rice fields.

So you celebrate a deity? - Yes.

Wow.

I spend New Year's Eve every year with friends and we

listen to the 108 rings of the temple bell.

What's that?

Those chimes have to ring out before 00:00 on New Years night on time.

You go to a temple for that. Then we go and watch the sunrise.

So you stay up until then?

Yes we do that, and once all is done we go home and eat New Year's osechi food.

You don't get to sleep much that night. - That's true.

Once the new year starts you take time to sleep.

What New Year'S Osechi food is nice? Can you recommend something?

My grandfather makes the osechi every year.

Everything he makes is tasty...

There are also some large shrimps. It's tasty.

Do you eat osechi food too?

Do you make or buy it?

We make it at home.

My mother and grandmother make it.

I like the kurikuri kinton.

What is it made of? - It's made with marons.

Super sweet marons.

Does it take a lot of time to make Osechi?

A lot. My mum has to start on the day before to make it.

Getting everything ready to eat it on New Year's morning.

Why is there Osechi food?

It's our way to honor the start of the new year.

It has existed for many many years.

I am from Austria. - And where are you from?

I am from Finland.

Usually when it's new year we gather with my friends.

to my apartment or some other friend's apartment.

Then we drink and then usually go when it's midnight to see the fireworks.

Outside.

And then we continue partying.

Quite the same. We gather with friends at some apartment.

Then we go out into the city in Vienna and watch the fireworks

and then go out (clubbing).

Any traditions you do on New Year's?

We have thing thing called "lead pouring".

You have fluid lead which you pour into water.

Then it becomes solid form.

There is a catalog.

You can look at the shape and if it resembles one of the things

in the catalog it has a certain meaning.

If it's a mouse it can mean luck.

Oh no it was the pig which means luck.

And some other symbols.

YES! I remember! It's like an oracle. You have metal and you heat it

over a candle on a spoon and then you drop it into water.

Exactly, that's it.

- Do you do something like that in your country? - We have the same thing.

In Finland. We don't have any catalog.

We just watch it when it's in its final form.

Then we are like "Hm this resembles a horse."

And it tells something about your future.

How many days do you get off in the new year?

Two weeks. I think that's the Christmas Holiday length.

We're students.

So for students it's Christmas plus new years, two weeks.

Yeah, I think it's two weeks.

I go to relative's houses.

I go to my first yearly shrine visit.

I draw fortune slips and such.

I go to my grandparent's house and eat Osechi food.

I am at the age where I have to give New Year's money (Otoshidama).

I give my cousin some money.

How much do you give as pocket money? - Not more than 2-3,000 Yen.

- 3,000 per person? - 3,000 per person.

- I think you are giving quite a lot. - I think that's actually only a little.

How much do you usually give then?

Well my parents give about 5,000 Yen.

Up to 10,000 Yen.

Depending on the family? - Yes.

When you got your New Year's money as child,

is there something you remember buying with it?

When I was small I would buy myself games and such.

And more recently I bought myself clothes and such.

I have some Osechi.

Osechi is a traditional food box with many different types of food.

And every type of food has a certain meaning for the New Year.

That's why we all eat it every year!

It's very colorful and extravagant, made with many different ingredients.

When do you start eating Osechi?

New Year's day. On New Year's eve we all eat New Year's Eve Soba noodles.

New Year's Eve soba noodles on the 31st and then Osechi and Ozoni.

What's Ozoni?

Ozoni varies depending on the prefecture of Japan.

It's a soy sauce based soup, containing rice cakes

You eat it in order to have a good New Year.

That's what Ozoni is for.

So you eat, eat and eat. What else do you do?

I watch the Kouhaku song contest.

What's the Kouhaku then?

The most famous artists of this year...

are all coming together. Girls are the red team. Men are the white team.

Then they sing and score points.

Every year it's about if red or white wins.

Like a massive song contest. - Yes.

We also get Otoshidama. - Can you explain?

Otoshidama is money you get from your parents or relatives

Children get it with the wish to use it well during the year.

That's Otoshidama.

We also go to shrines and make our first prayers.

For example the Meiji Shrine.

I think there will be many people.

I wait a few days before I go to a shrine.

I wait until it's less crowded to make my new year's shrine prayers.

I also go to my grandparent's house and relax around there.

You both wait some time before you go to a shrine. -That's right.

Is it really that bad?

You can't really move forward and if you do you stay in a long cue.

That's not right for praying.

We are from America, NY.

Drink with your friends usually

... in either NY or you travel somewhere.

But you are usually drinking with friends and you get dressed up.

In NY if you spend it in the city, for people that live there...

you try to do whatever you can to avoid Times Square.

because every tourist from every part of the world is there.

It's too crazy for New Yorkers.

Aside from that you find somewhere warm...

with some drinks and some friends.

So NOT times square? - No definitely not.

Everyone counts down and then you cheers and then...

... if you are dating, you kiss.

or I guess if you are not dating, you kiss your friends.

Usually kiss something.

You are allowed to kiss your friends in that moment then?

Like "Ah well, we are both single, let's kiss."

- Yeah. - On the lips?

Uhm... sure.

On New Year's eve all the family comes together and we eat hot pot.

We huddle together under the kotatsu to keep warm.

What's a kotatsu? Can you say it in your words?

It's a table that has a blanket attached to it.

If you switch it on, it's like an electric heater.

It gets all warm. If you put your feet under it...

It is super nice.

Celebrating into the New Year together with friends.

And in the afternoon or around lunch spend time with the family.

So everyone does a party for New Year? - Yeah.

What do you do on a New Year's party? A count down?

The countdown I spend with my friends.

We watch TV or we go to a shrine in the night.

When you go to the shrine, what do you do?

The first shrine visit of the year... I pull my yearly fortune slip.

If you pull a bad fortune slip, what do you do?

There is a place for that.

You tie the bad fortune slip there and pray for something good.

If you pull a great fortune slip, what do you do?

If I pull a good one, I take it home.

You put it in your wallet? - That's what I do.

If I pull a bad fortune slip, I pretend it didn't happen and pull a second one.

How would you like to spend New Year's this year?

I want to celebrate it with friends, like Christmas.

Christmas and New Years are parties with friends?

I choose party!

I want to celebrate into the New Year with friends and family.

I heard everyone eats Osechi food?

What's the most delicious one of those?

Tatemaki.

It's like an egg omelette. It's tasty.

I like shrimp the most.

A full fledged shrimp?

Generally there is only one in the box.

And I eat that one without hesitation.

Do you eat that one first or last?

First, before someone else gets it.

Most of us have dinner with their families.

Inside the houses instead of going to a restaurant.

Then, when the 12 chimes of the last year ring, we eat

We have a lot of malls. We have big fireworks.

on the big malls and maybe some parks.

Most of the time we just go to those places...

we just look at the fireworks for 10-20 minutes.

Or we just come there and wait for the fireworks.

So it's friends coming together, watching the fireworks.

In Spain you eat the grapes really fast before the New Year.

In Japan there are so many traditions.

New Years in Japan and Christmas is like a swap.

Family time, everything of that is on New Years in Japan.

And celebrating with friends or your partner is on Christmas.

So it kind of gets switched around a bit of what we know in the west.

There are SO SO many traditions. I will try and summarize some traditions

that you have seen so far.

In the evening people eat long noodles which are supposed to symbolize

long life.

Many people watch the music TV show on that day.

Then you have the clock that strikes 12 so you do the count down.

You hear the clock from the temples ringing as well.

Sometimes you just watch that on TV how the bell gets rung for New Years.

And then people go out to shrines and sometimes temples

to get their New Years Omamori charm that is supposed to protect you

in the New Year or an arrow for the New Year.

And you draw your fortune slip for the New Year.

And after that you are allowed to eat Osechi Ryouri which is special food

that you eat only in this season.

People prepare it in advance and once it's New Year you're allowed to eat it.

If you buy those they are very expensive but they are also there to

release the mothers of lots of stress because you have them with rice

so in the new year there is not so much cooking going on.

I found that interesting as well.

Then there is Toshidama, which is the money during that

So instead of presents, kids get money in a little envelope that usually

has a cute character on it, for the New Year to spend on.

And that brings me to... LUCKY BAGS!

Obviously if kids and people get lots of money...

businesses make something out of that as well.

So you can stand in line right on New Years day

lots of shops have bargains with bags that have double the value in them

or many more time the value in them but you don't know what's in them

They are like surprise bags with great value that you can take advantage of

if you come here for the New Year.

RIGHTS.

SO AGAIN VERY STAUNCH GUN ADVOCATE AND OBVIOUSLY THE STORY IS

NONETHELESS IT

THE TITLE OF MY MESSAGE IS,

"DO YOU HAVE FAITH IN THE SAVIOR OF THE WORLD?

THE WORD OF GOD IS A FAITH BOOK.

WE CAN READ MANY PROPHECIES THAT WERE WRITTEN

IN THE OLD TESTAMENT THAT WERE NOT FULFILLED

UNTIL CENTURIES LATER, BUT PEOPLE STILL

HAD FAITH TO BELIEVE IN THEM.

GOD PROMISED HE WOULD SEND A MESSIAH TO SAVE THE WORLD

FROM THEIR SINS, AND SURE ENOUGH, IT HAPPENED.

IT TOOK MANY YEARS OF PEOPLE WATCHING AND HOPING

FOR THAT PROPHECY TO BE FULFILLED,

BUT THEY USED THEIR DIVINE FAITH TO BELIEVE.

IN HEBREWS, CHAPTER 11, VERSE 1.

"NOW FAITH IS THE SUBSTANCE OF THINGS HOPED FOR,

THE EVIDENCE OF THINGS NOT SEEN."

REAL FAITH IS WHEN YOU BELIEVE TO SEE,

NOT TO SEE TO BELIEVE.

BEFORE SALVATION COULD COME FOR MANKIND,

A YOUNG MAIDEN HAD TO BE CHOSEN TO TAKE ON

THE GREAT RESPONSIBILITY TO BE THE MOTHER

OF THE SAVIOR OF THE WORLD.

IMAGINE HOW MARY MUST HAVE FELT WHEN SHE WAS VISITED

BY THE ANGEL, GABRIEL; AND HE TOLD HER THAT SHE WAS

HIGHLY FAVORED AND THAT THE LORD WAS WITH HER

AND THAT SHE WAS BLESSED AMONG WOMEN,

THAT HAD TO BEEN AN AMAZING MOMENT FOR HER.

FIRST, SHE RECEIVES A VISITATION FROM AN ANGEL,

AND THEN SHE IS TOLD THAT SHE IS BLESSED

AND FAVORED BY THE LORD.

THIS IS A HUGE COMPLEMENT, BUT...

HER MEETING WITH GABRIEL DOESN'T STOP THERE.

HE THEN PROCEEDS TO TELL HER THAT SHE IS GOING

TO CONCEIVE AND BRING FORTH A SON

AND CALL HIS NAME JESUS.

THIS IS A LOT FOR ANY YOUNG WOMAN TO TAKE IN,

ESPECIALLY SINCE SHE IS A VIRGIN

AND HAS NEVER BEEN WITH A MAN BEFORE.

BUT IT DOESN'T STOP THERE.

GABRIEL LETS HER KNOW WHAT KIND OF CHILD SHE IS GOING

TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR RAISING.

HE TELLS MARY THAT THE CHILD "SHALL BE GREAT..."

AND THE CHILD SHALL BE "THE SON OF THE HIGHEST;

THE LORD SHALL GIVE UNTO HIM THE THRONE

OF HIS FATHER DAVID: AND HE WILL REIGN OVER THE HOUSE

OF JACOB FOR EVER; AND HIS KINGDOM SHALL THERE BE NO END.

HE ALSO TELLS HER THAT THE HOLY GHOST SHALL COME UPON HER,

AND POWER FROM ON HIGH, THE POWER ON HIGHEST

SHALL OVERSHADOW HER, AND THAT THE "HOLY THING

WHICH SHALL BE BORN OF THEE SHALL BE CALLED

THE SON OF GOD."

THIS IS A TALL ORDER FOR ANYONE TO FACE,

BUT MARY WAS CHOSEN BY GOD FOR A SPECIAL MISSION,

AND SHE HAD COMPLETE HUMILITY IN HER

AND SHE ACCEPTED THE TASK.

MARY'S CALLING IN LIFE WAS TO BE THE MOTHER

OF THE SAVIOR OF THE WORLD, BUT BEFORE SHE COULD FILL-

FULFILL THAT CALLING, SHE HAD TO HAVE THE FAITH

TO BELIEVE IN THE ONE WHO GAVE HER THE CALLING, AND SHE DID.

PROPHECIES THAT WERE FORETOLD BY THE PROPHETS OF OLD

WERE NOW COMING TO PASS, BUT WOULD OTHERS BELIEVE?

ISAIAH, CHAPTER 7, VERSE 14.

"THEREFORE THE LORD HIMSELF SHALL GIVE YOU A SIGN;

BEHOLD, A VIRGIN SHALL CONCEIVE, AND BEAR A SON,

AND SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL."

HUNDREDS OF YEARS HAD PASSED SINCE PROPHECY WAS GIVEN,

AND I'M SURE MANY HAD GIVEN UP HOPE THAT IT

WOULD NEVER COME TO PASS; BUT WHEN GOD GIVES A PROPHECY,

YOU CAN COUNT ON IT ONE DAY HAPPENING.

IT MAY NOT BE IN THE TIMEFRAME YOU THINK IT SHOULD BE,

BUT IT WILL HAPPEN.

WE HAVE END-TIME PROPHECIES IN THE BIBLE

THAT HAS YET TO COME TO PASS, BUT WE ARE WATCHING

AND WAITING FOR THEM TO BE FULFILLED.

AND IN MATTHEW, CHAPTER 24, VERSE 37-42, I READ,

"BUT AS THE DAYS OF NOE WERE, SO SHALL ALSO

THE COMING OF THE SON OF MAN BE.

AS-FOR AS IN THE DAYS THAT WERE BEFORE THE FLOOD

THEY WERE EATING AND DRINKING, MARRYING AND GIVING

IN MARRIAGE, UNTIL THE DAY THAT NOE ENTERED INTO THE ARK,

AND KNEW NOT UNTIL THE FLOOD CAME,

AND TOOK THEM ALL AWAY; SO SHALL ALSO

THE COMING OF THE SON OF MAN BE.

THEN SHALL TWO BE IN THE FIELD; ONE SHALL BE TAKEN,

THE OTHER LEFT.

TWO WOMEN SHALL BE GRINDING AT THE MILL;

THE ONE SHALL BE TAKEN, THE OTHER LEFT.

WATCH THEREFORE: FOR YE KNOW NOT WHAT HOUR

YOUR LORD DOTH COME."

JESUS IS GOING TO COME TO EARTH AGAIN,

BUT WILL YOU BE WATCHING?

HAS THE CARES OF THIS WORLD CAUSED YOU TO FORGET

THE PROPHECY OF THE SECOND APPEARANCE?

SIGNS ARE ALL AROUND US, JESUS WARNS US THAT THERE

WOULD BE WARS AND RUMORS OF WARS, NATION RISING UP

AGAINST NATIONS, BUT THE END WOULD NOT YET BE.

WE ARE SEEING MANY CONFLICTS THAT ARE HAPPENING

IN THE WORLD TODAY, AND IT'S GETTING WORSE AND WORSE,

BUT WE CANNOT LOSE FOCUS ON OUR MISSION,

AND THAT IS TO GET THE GOSPEL TO THE WHOLE WORLD

SO WE CAN HAVE JESUS COME AGAIN.

GOD WANTS US-WANTS TO USE US FOR HIS GLORY,

BUT DO YOU BELIEVE THAT GOD-THAT WITH GOD

NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE?

THE VIRGIN BIRTH OF THE SAVIOR OF THE WORLD

WAS A GREAT MIRACLE THAT IS CELEBRATED EVERY YEAR

ON CHRISTMAS DAY, BUT DO PEOPLE REALLY REALIZE

THE SACRIFICE THAT JESUS MADE TO DIE A PAINFUL DEATH

ON THE CROSS FOR OUR SINS?

JESUS MADE THE SACRIFICE SO THAT WE COULD HAVE

A TWOFOLD ATONEMENT, HEALING FOR THE SOUL,

AND FOR THE MIND AND BODY.

JESUS BROUGHT BACK EVERYTHING THAT WAS LOST

IN THE FALL OF MAN.

IN 1ST PETER, CHAPTER 2, VERSE 24.

"WHO HIS OWN SELF BARE OUR SINS IN HIS OWN BODY ON THE TREE,

THAT WE, BEING DEAD TO SINS, SHOULD LIVE

UNTO RIGHTEOUSNESS: BY WHOSE STRIPES YE WERE HEALED."

BY USING OUR FAITH IN JESUS AND ACCEPTING HIM

INTO OUR HEART AND LIVING FOR HIM DAILY,

WE ARE MEETING THE CONDITION OF SALVATION.

SALVATION WAS BORN IN BETHLEHEM, BUT WE HAVE

TO USE OUR FAITH TO RECEIVE SALVATION.

THE SHEPHERDS WATCHING OVER THEIR FLOCKS AT NIGHT

WERE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO USE THEIR FAITH.

WHEN THE ANGEL OF THE LORD APPEARED UNTO THEM,

THE ANGEL TELLS THE SHEPHERDS THAT "THIS DAY IN THE CITY

OF DAVID A SAVIOUR, WHICH IS CHRIST THE LORD, IS BORN.

AND THEY WILL "FIND A BABE WRAPPED IN SWADDLING CLOTHES,

LYING IN A MANGER.

THEN SUDDENLY WITH THE ANGEL WAS A MULTITUDE

OF HEAVENLY HOSTS PRAISING GOD, AND SAYING,

GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST, AND ON EARTH PEACE,

GOOD WILL TOWARDS MEN."

HOW EXCITING FOR THE SHEPHERDS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT

TO BE IN ALL THAT GLORY HEARING THE GOODS NEWS

THAT A SAVIOR WAS BORN!

AFTER THE ANGELS LEFT THE SHEPHERDS, THEY HAD TWO CHOICES;

THEY COULD DOUBT WHAT THEY HEARD

AND AND CONTINUE WATCHING OVER THEIR FLOCK,

OR THEY COULD BELIEVE IN ALL FAITH

AND LOOK FOR THE BABE IN THE MANGER.

PRAISE GOD, THEY WENT BY FAITH AND FOUND JESUS.

TO ACCEPT SALVATION FROM THE SAVIOR OF THE WORLD,

WE MUST TAKE ON-TAKE THE STEP OF FAITH TO RECEIVE HIM;

BUT JESUS BROUGHT MORE THAN JUST SALVATION;

HE BROUGHT HEALING FOR OUR MIND AND BODY.

AND WHEN JESUS WAS HERE ON EARTH, SOMETIMES 5,000 PEOPLE

WOULD BE AROUND HIM, AND THEY WERE

SEARCHING AND HOPING FOR DELIVERANCE;

THE PEOPLE THAT HEARD THAT JESUS COULD PERFORM MIRACLES

AND MANY OF THEM HAD THE FAITH TO BELIEVE.

AND IN MARK'S GOSPEL WHEN JESUS WAS HEADING TOWARDS

JAIRUS' HOUSE TO PRAY FOR HIS 12-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER

WHO WAS VERY SICK, THE BIBLE TELLS US

THAT MUCH PEOPLE FOLLOWED HIM AND THRONGED HIM,

MEANING THEY CROWDED AROUND HIM.

WE HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS OVER IN AFRICA.

WHEN YOU HAVE A CROWD OF PEOPLE AROUND YOU,

IT DRAWS MORE PEOPLE TO YOU; AND WHEN PEOPLE KNOW THAT

YOU ARE GIVING THEM SOMETHING OF VALUE FOR FREE,

THEN THEY EVEN MORE COME AROUND YOU.

AND THEN WE ALSO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS BECAUSE THEY START

THRONGING YOU, SO WE HAVE EXPERIENCED THAT BEFORE.

AND WHEN THE CROWDS BEGAN TO FORM AROUND JESUS, I AM SURE

THIS MUST HAVE GOTTEN THE ATTENTION OF THE WOMAN

WITH THE ISSUE OF BLOOD.

THIS WAS HER OPPORTUNITY TO RECEIVE HER MIRACLE

THAT SHE DESPERATELY NEEDED!

SHE KNEW SHE NEEDED TO GET TO JESUS.

SHE SUFFERED MANY THINGS FROM MANY PHYSICIANS,

AND SHE SUFFERED AS THE DOCTORS TRIED

TO DO THEIR BEST FOR HER.

AND NOW HER MONEY WAS ALL SPENT AND SHE HAD NOTHING

TO SHOW FOR IT-JUST THINK, SEEING ALL THOSE DOCTORS,

WHICH LED TO DISAPPOINTMENT AFTER DISAPPOINTMENT.

NOWADAYS, JUST SITTING IN THE WAITING ROOM IS STRESSFUL

WHEN YOU'RE SICK AND IN PAIN, AND IT SEEMS

LIKE IT TAKES FOREVER TO SEE A DOCTOR;

AND THIS WOMAN WHO SUFFERED FOR 12 YEARS,

JUST KEPT ON GETTING WORSE!

NOW I'M SURE SEEING ALL THOSE PHYSICIANS

AS THEY TRIED DIFFERENT WAYS TO CURE HER

WAS PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY DRAINING ON HER.

SO NOW SHE'S AT HER LOWEST POINT, AND I'M SURE IT DIDN'T-

SHE DIDN'T FEEL LIKE FIGHTING THE CROWD

IN HER WEAKENED STATE, BUT WHAT WAS SHE GOING TO DO?

WAS SHE GOING TO WATCH JESUS AND THE CROWD PASS HER BY

AND HOPE THAT JESUS WOULD COME BACK HER WAY ANOTHER TIME?

SOME PEOPLE ARE LIKE THAT; THEY HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY

TO RECEIVE JESUS, BUT THEY PUT HIM OFF FOR ANOTHER DAY

THINKING THAT THERE WILL BE ANOTHER TIME

AND PLACE TO RECEIVE HIM.

BUT AS EACH DAY GOES BY, THEIR WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY

GETS A LITTLE SMALLER TO RECEIVE HIM.

BUT THIS WOMAN KNEW TIME WAS AGAINST HER,

AND SHE COULDN'T WAIT-SHE COULDN'T GO

BY HER FEELINGS AND WAIT.

WE CAN'T GO ALL BY OUR FEELINGS,

WE MUST GO BY FAITH.

SHE PUT HER FAITH IN JESUS AND WAS DETERMINED

TO RECEIVE WHAT JESUS HAD FOR HER.

AS SHE MAKES HER WAY THROUGH THE CROWD

TRYING TO GET TO JESUS, SHE BELIEVED IN HER HEART

THAT IF SHE WOULD TOUCH HIS CLOTHES

THAT SHE WOULD BE MADE WHOLE.

SHE HAD SO MUCH FAITH IN THE SAVIOR OF THE WORLD

THAT ALL SHE HAD TO DO WAS TOUCH HIS CLOTHES.

SHE DIDN'T HAVE TO TOUCH HIS HANDS OR HIS FEET

OR ANY PART OF HIS ACTUAL BODY; NO, JUST HIS CLOTHES.

AS SHE WAS GETTING CLOSER,

THIS IS WHEN THE DEVIL FIGHTS THE HARDEST.

SURELY, SHE HAD SEEN ALL THOSE PEOPLE TOUCHING JESUS,

PUSHING AGAINST HIM, AND I'M SURE THE DEVIL

TRIED TO GIVE HER THOUGHTS OF DOUBT IN HER MIND,

THOUGHTS OF DISCOURAGEMENT THAT OTHER PEOPLE

WERE TOUCHING JESUS AND THAT IT DOESN'T LOOK

LIKE THEY'RE RECEIVING ANYTHING;

BUT THIS IS WHERE HER FAITH STEPS IN.

IN ROMANS, CHAPTER 12, VERSE 3.

"GOD HATH DEALT TO EVERY MAN THE MEASURE OF FAITH."

AND AS WE USE THAT MEASURE OF FAITH,

IT WILL INCREASE.

SO EACH STEP THIS WOMAN WAS TAKING TOWARDS JESUS

WAS A STEP OF FAITH, AND HER FAITH WAS INCREASING.

THIS IS A BIG STEP IN RECEIVING WHATEVER YOUR NEED IS

BY FLUSHING YOUR MIND CUP FROM ANYTHING

THAT IS HINDERING YOU.

SHE DIDN'T HAVE ANY FEAR IN REACHING OUT

TO TOUCH HIS GARMENT, AND SHE- IF SHE HAD ANY

WEALTHY PRIDE IN HER; IT WAS ALL WASHED AWAY

THROUGH THE 12-LONG YEARS OF SUFFERING.

SHE WAS READY; SHE HAD THE FAITH IN THE SAVIOR.

AND WHEN SHE REACHED OUT IN ALL FAITH

AND TOUCHED HIS HEM OF HIS GARMENT, SHE FELT IN HER BODY

THE MIRACLE-WORKING POWER THAT SHE WAS HEALED OF THAT SICKNESS.

JESUS KNEW WITHIN HIMSELF THAT VIRTUE HAD GONE OUT OF HIM!

JESUS COULD'VE JUST-JUST KEPT ON WALKING TO JAIRUS' DAUGHTER,

BUT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO JESUS

TO KNOW WHO HAD RECEIVED.

JESUS TURNED AROUND AND SAID, "WHO TOUCHED ME?"

THE DISCIPLES WERE STUNNED.

THERE WAS A WHOLE CROWD THERE TOUCHING HIM,

BUT HER TOUCH WAS DIFFERENT; IT WAS A FAITH TOUCH.

IF YOU WANT TO RECEIVE FROM THE HAND OF GOD,

WE MUST ALWAYS REACH OUT IN DIVINE FAITH.

THE WOMAN RECEIVED HER MIRACLE, NOT BECAUSE

SHE TOUCHED THE HEM OF JESUS' GARMENT, BUT BECAUSE

SHE BELIEVED WHEN SHE TOUCHED HIS GARMENT

THAT SHE WOULD BE HEALED.

JESUS WANTED TO KNOW WHO TOUCHED HIM BECAUSE HE KNEW

THAT WHOEVER IT WAS HAD ENOUGH FAITH

TO RELEASE THE VIRTUE THAT WAS IN HIM FOR THEIR MIRACLE.

THE WOMAN FINALLY CONFESSES THAT IT WAS HER

AND SHE FALLS TO HIS FEET AND GIVES GOD THE GLORY!

JESUS WITH LOVE AND COMPASSION SAYS,

"DAUGHTER, BE OF GOOD COMFORT:

THY FAITH HAS MADE THEE WHOLE; GO IN PEACE."

WHAT LOVE AND COMPASSION THE SAVIOR OF THE WORLD

HAS FOR MANKIND.

WHEN JESUS WAS BORN IN BETHLEHEM, THE ANGELS CAME

TO THE SHEPHERDS AND SAID, "GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST,

AND ON EARTH PEACE, GOOD WILL TOWARDS MEN."

THIS GOODWILL TOWARDS OTHERS IS THE LOVE AND COMPASSION

THAT JESUS BROUGHT TO THIS EARTH.

TAKE TIME THIS HOLIDAY SEASON TO SHOW LOVE

AND COMPASSION THAT JESUS HAD FOR OTHERS.

LET US NOT FORGET WHAT CHRISTMAS IS ALL ABOUT.

SERVE THE DIVINE LOVE THAT JESUS GAVE YOU IN YOUR HEART,

BUT FRIEND, YOU CAN ONLY SERVE WHAT YOU HAVE.

SO THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN SERVE DIVINE LOVE

IS TO HAVE JESUS IN YOUR HEART.

I'm afraid to speak my mother tongue.

I grew up with it. It was in my food, it was in my drinks.

It was sitting with my Abuelita,

or as I'd call her, Wela

listening about her life back in Cuba.

I grew up needing English in the hospital.

I grew up needing Spanish at home.

I grew up with immigrant parents who's second language was English

but they wanted to make sure English was my first.

I grew up loving speaking both English and Spanish at home.

But I grew up being ashamed of my Spanish every where else.

Because I've grown up in a country where to be American,

I shouldn't speak Spanish.

I'm afraid to speak my mother tongue.

And now because of this fear, I'm afraid to speak Spanish with the ones I love.

For fear of sounding too much like a gringa.

For the fear of messing up because I practice English more.

For the fear that I feel that although

my blood bleeds Cuba and Puerto Rico,

I can't claim Spanish as my own.

No matter how much I want to.

I love where my family comes from,

I love our food, I love our traditions,

Playing God(dess) - The Six Forces of Nature - Magic - Duration: 18:35.

Hey again! Alright, this's what you've been waiting

like three months for. Magic... as a force of nature. Not in the metaphorical sense,

but the quite literal sense among the four forces of nature.

Or, six forces of nature in fiction. I'll cover psionics next time, but for now, MAGIC!

So... why am I calling magic a force of nature? Well, if you're going to build a world from

scratch, you have to understand how stuff works so that you avoid plotholes and inconsistencies.

It doesn't have to be super-ultra rigorous or anything, just internally consistent.

For me, that means viewing everything from a scientific perspective. When it comes to

magic, that means I consider how it does what it does, and that involves much of the same

stuff we already know about physics, but skewed to work a lil bit differently.

This means that magic has a carrier particle - known as mana. It can be called all sorts

of things, from zeon to aetheric energy to whatever else you can think of, but it's basically

mana. Without this mana, there is no magic. Kind of like photons or electrons, if you

don't have either of those, you don't have electromagnetics.

Now this isn't just me making stuff up. Well it is, but it isn't. See, this's more of a

description of how magic is already used in fiction to begin with. For example, mana flows

in a very predictable manner similar to electrons - a path of least resistance. We see this

all the time, with the most obvious example being ley lines, which may as well be conductive

metal. Other examples are things like wands, or staves... again, basically the same concept

as holding an iron bar in a thunderstorm. I don't suggest holding the iron bar in a

thunderstorm. Just saying.

So before we go any further, what makes magic... work?

Four main things, really. First off, you need an energy source. Magic

doesn't just "magically" happen, as much as that would make sense. No, it still follows

the conservation of energy principle in which energy can neither be created nor destroyed,

merely reconfigured to another form of energy or matter.

We see this all the time in games, actually, it just doesn't seem obvious at first. The

concept of "mana" or anything similar at all, in fact implies this conservation of energy.

You don't consume the mana so that it disappears, you just change it into another form. The

mana was already present as a (super)naturally occurring form of energy to begin with.

The importance of this is that there must always be an energy source somewhere. Maybe

you draw upon the spirit world, or the warp from warhammer 40k, or the lifestream from

Final Fantasy 7, or some other variant upon such - it doesn't really matter the form it

takes, just that there's always something which supplies the energy to begin with. It's

just waiting there to be tapped. The second part of magic is a focusing agent.

This may be a unicorn's horn in My Little Pony, or a wizard's wand in Harry Potter,

or the gloves worn by the cabalists in hellgate for a few examples. The stereotypical wizard's

staff since at least Lord of the Rings is the same concept as well here - it doesn't

matter if you have a ton of mana just floating around you as an ambient source, you still

need to have some way to focus all that energy into a single spot so that it can be turned

into something actually useful. In many cases, this takes the form of the caster's own body

- in games and novels where only "some" people have "the talent" for magic, basically what

they're describing is the body having a low resistance to mana, similar to how some few

people just have a naturally low electrical resistance, allowing for them to conduct electrical

currents at an amazingly efficient rate. What this means is that energy can flow through

the caster like a lightning rod, drawing magical energy to them to be used. A walking battery

of sorts. This takes on a lot of different incarnations across various movies, books

and games, as well as even mythology and actual religions in reality - but it all boils down

to the same concept: you need an energy source, and a way to bring that energy together before

it can be properly utilized. Now that brings us to what we colloquially

call "magic" itself - the spell. A spell is... essentially a computer program,

for lack of a better term. The spell tells the energy you've gathered what to do, how

to do it and the specific details about exactly what's being done. Even a fairly simple spell

has an enormous amount of context which is needed to be able to get it to do what you

want. Consider the basic idea of "create water" as a spell for a moment here.

Alright, so you convert magical energy into matter, specifically water. Yay! That was

easy! Wait... but you need to tell it what water is - two hydrogen atoms spread at 120

degrees apart attached to an oxygen atom... and what atoms even are. More than that, you also need to specify exactly

where that water will appear. Want to create water inside someone's stomach? Oh. That's

uh... that takes some finicky calculations doesn't it? What defines "stomach" in this

case? You need some way to specify exactly where that water's going or it might just

be plopped into someone's bloodstream, which could very well kill them. You also need to

specify that the water doesn't just replace tissue which is already present, lest you

accidentally bisect someone. That would be kinda messy. At least you'd have lots of water

to clean it up on hand, so that's good I guess. Anyway, the point is that the spell itself

tells the energy what to do. This can take the form of rituals, summoning circles, hand

waving, chanting, all sorts of things. One of the novels from Shadowrun explained it

in a very eloquent manner I found - the act of drawing the summoning circle isn't the

spell itself, it's merely the organization of your thoughts in a particular manner. That's

why you can't just draw it out on a sheet of paper and dump it on the ground, the circle itself

doesn't mean anything, rather it's a step-by-step checklist of how to tell the mana what to

do. It doesn't really matter if you actually draw out the summoning circle with chalk or

not to be perfectly blunt, what matters is that you go through the mental motions of

basically printing off a circuitboard for the energy to travel upon so it knows what

it's supposed to do. This same concept can be applied to virtually

every form of magic ever imagined. Shamanism where you get your dead ancestors or some

spirits of the wild to do stuff for you? You still have to tell them what to do, and they

still are the ones to actually cast the spell, and it still requires input to know what to do.

What about using spell reagents in D&D? Yep, still used as a shorthand method of telling

the energy what you're trying to accomplish.

Even like uh, rune magic. Where you draw out the runes and then they trigger. Yeah, same thing.

So that's three out of four... but... but

what's the last bit? You already have a spell! That's the end of it, right?

We~ell, no. The last part is your triggering mechanism.

A lot of the time this's built into the end of a spell. If the spell itself is a program,

then the triggering mechanism is when you compile your spell's code and actually run the executable.

This isn't always built into the spell itself, though. Any sort of delayed spell, a trap, runes or warding

spells all have a separate trigger. Consider it to be like a safety match. Your

standard strike-anywhere match in old cartoons had both the ignition source and the fuel

together, so you could just strike it anywhere and poof, done. That was also dangerous as

hell. Today, virtually all matches come in three parts, the fuel is the wooden matchstick

itself, but the igniter is two separate stages - the tip has half of it, the box has the

other half. It's only when you put the two ignition halves together that you actually

get the fire started, which is an awful lot safer to use. As such, you may see this kind

of a thing show up in games or novels from time to time. Saorsa itself actually has a

two-stage casting sequence for it's spells where you build the spell's program into a

spell lattice, then you collapse the lattice as a separate action into the actual spell

for use, triggering it to actually perform the spell's actions. Meaning you can create

a spell long in advance and hold onto it, ready to release the moment it's needed at

a fraction of the normal cost, other than the fact that doing so would kind of keep

your attention busy elsewhere most of the time. And you couldn't cast another

spell if that one turns out to be inappropriate. You'd just have to lose it basically.

Anyway, what I'm getting at here is that the triggering mechanism for a spell is not actually

the spell itself, but a separate step which just normally happens to be built into the

spell in most cases, but it's important to recognize that it's a discrete action in and of itself.

Soooo with all of this, we now know that, even in fantasy, even in myth, even in actual

religions which practice magic in reality, or at least they believe they do, there's still a scientific basis behind all

of it. Magic is not, interestingly enough, magic. You can actually understand how it works.

In terms of how magic works in fiction, the

more you study it, the more it actually seems to work suspiciously similar to electricity.

Mana, or any other energy source for your magic regardless of what you call it, is essentially

the carrier particle for magic, just as photons and electrons carry electricity, gravitons

carry gravity, and the bosons, mesons and gluons handle the nuclear forces. So in this

case, "mana" is not a generic source of energy, but rather an actual particle which can be

exchanged back and forth. You can have metals infused with mana particles, which suddenly

means things like how cold iron supposedly works now makes sense! It's simply iron with

a positive mana charge, which causes it to negate the negative mana charge in most forms

of magic by prying away the free mana particles. This explains so much in a consistent manner,

from magical spells to enchantments to magically enhanced creatures to things like mythril

and orichalcum. Everything just kind of falls into place with a reliable predictability

of sorts. Yes, it's complex and has many facets of how it works, but by treating magic as

a fundamental force of nature, it actually ties together all the different forms of magic

in every book, every myth, every video game and every other source you can think of.

Magic is... a force of nature. Literally speaking. This grand, unified theory of magic allows

for every concept of magic which has ever been made up to coexist within the same setting.

Some forms may be incompatible with others more or less, much in the way an alternating

current and direct current don't play nicely together without an intermediate point of

conversion between the two, but they're technically the same thing.

With this concept, things like ley lines also make perfect sense - all they are in this

theory is a location where the natural resistance values are either low, or nonexistent. Meaning

you could quite literally build a magical superconductor.

But anyway, that's magic, and magic works on a broad scale. It's big, it's kinda clunky,

and you need an awful lot of energy to do even relatively simple tasks with magic. That

being said, magical energy tends to be quite abundant in most settings. Even the settings

where magic is really scarce, there's still actually quite a lot of it around when you

think about it, it's just not in a usable format most of the time. You need to "do"

something to be able to put the magical energy to work for you... namely, a focus and a spell

and trigger, and these may not be especially refined to performing magic on a regular basis.

It doesn't mean there isn't high background levels of mana, just that it's difficult to

access it most of the time. Psionics, on the other hand, work on a vastly

smaller scale, with very small bits of energy to create a cascading effect, more of rolling

a snowball down a hill where the hill is the other natural forces. Magic tends to do most

of the work on its own, psionics just acts as the initial spark. We'll get into that

next time though when we cover psionics, because it works similar to magic in some ways, but

vastly differently in others. If you want a hint on such though, we can

pretty clearly define the "alchemy" as portrayed in Full Metal Alchemist as actually being

psionics, not magic. Or more specifically, that the human characters in the show and

manga are technically using magic... but indirectly - they're using psionics to trigger a magical

effect. Sound weird? Well, you've got a few weeks to think about it before I explain it myself.

In which case I guess you can just go click that. Whatever.

Oh yes... and one last thing - HOMEWORK. Le garsp. We'll be covering magic in a lot more

detail later on in the Playing God(dess) series, but for now, your homework is to get the basics

out of the way. Figure out what the energy source of your magic is and what viable methods

of focusing that energy into a specific spot are available. Once you have an idea of what

your energy source is, and how to get it gathered into one location for use, then consider what

kind of methodology for using that energy source would likely arise. We'll get into

the traditions and spheres of magic later on, so the specifics aren't toooooo important

at the moment, just get thinking about where this would logically go is all.
