Gay Men and Slut Shaming ... not a good look - Duration: 3:06.

Feel good family happy tuesday to you

and welcome to the daily dose if you

like what we do here hit that subscribe

button because this is the place on the

web where all those questions are too

scared to ask your MD you can ask the MP

let's go do it

so today on LGBT Tuesday game and I'm

talking to you again we're talking about

slut-shaming it has been proven time and

time again that the less open and honest

we are as a community as any community

is in talking about sex the more

mistakes people make when they're having

sex and I use the word mistake on

purpose

now look I'm an advocate for safe sex

I'm an advocate for using prep but I'm

also not in this to judge people who

choose not to

now yes it's been great to have the

Wills of the world on television who are

upstanding you know lawyers and that

they are they have changed a lot of

people's minds and attitude about the

LGBT community but less we not forget

that we are all a part of this community

so that guy at the party who you're like

oh did she sleep with my friend last

weekend and now she's trying to hook up

with that guy he's a part of our

community to and the more you shame him

the more underground has behaviors

become and the more ridiculed his

behaviour becoming the less safe they

become so there is no room for

slut-shaming in our community period we

got enough shit to worry about under a

trump administration and mike pence

trying to convert people in the state of

Indiana and all this other stuff that we

got to come after and now we still have

to continue to work for because we still

have a long way to go we don't have time

for slut-shaming in fact there are some

people out there who would argue that

slut shaming actually works to increase

the number of documented HIV cases and

other STDs and i'm not sure i totally

disagree with that argument either hard

to prove but i'm not sure i disagree

with it either

we need to be a sex-positive community

and continue that that's part of how we

got to where we were

RR older gays who did so much fighting

so that i could be here on YouTube

you've been talk to you as an openly gay

man it was all about being sex positive

for our entire community what whoever

you wanted to sleep with or not sleep

with that's all part of this community

so we can't get locked into these sort

of hetero normative stereotypes now that

we're a little bit more mainstream that

all of a sudden we gotta start acting

scared and not supporting everyone in

our community

slut-shaming is a health issue in the

gay community we have to stop doing it

I would love to know your thoughts about

this i'm sure you have plenty hit me up

an oath comments below and again if you

are new to ask the MP and the daily dose

this is that place on the web you get to

ask all those crazy questions you don't

want to ask a doctor

alright so if you liked this video hit

that like button share with your friends

and family i'll see you guys in the

comments and feel good family love you

so much i'll see you mañana

the music's pretty pretty good there two

of the gameplay it's just really fun i

don't care what people say about the

controls of black people were

complaining controls for the game but I

I don't see any problems with that you

just control your radical or whatever

aiming thing you want to call it the

color of radical in the game but uh

whatever you want to call it you just

remove that with the styles and

everybody complained about that I don't

experience and if the turnout like crap

that's okay just just just get it up for

whatever release date they're putting it

BT Daily: We Don't Understand Faith - Duration: 1:08.

[Gary Petty] We've been working this week on a new Beyond Today program about faith,

and it's titled, "Lord, Help Me Believe".

We're talking about some of the problems we have in our faith – growing and having

real faith – but one of the points we talk about in this program is, we don't understand

faith.

Many times, people think faith is just belief – if you just believe, it'll happen.

It's more than that.

Faith is more than belief, when we see what the apostle James says, when he writes about,

"you believe in God, you do well.

Even the demons believe" (James 2:19).

In other words, we have to have more than what the demons have – they know God exists.

We have to trust Him.

We have to trust in His goodness.

We have to trust in His greatness.

We have to trust that He's going to do what's best in our lives.

That's not always easy.

But when we do that, when we break through that barrier, we can begin to trust God and

He will be involved in our lives.

Have faith.

It's more than belief.

It's trust.

That's BT Daily.

Thanks for watching.

My Mom Got Arrested - Duration: 1:54.

Two years ago when I was 10 years old, I had the worst moment of my life.

My mom and her friends were upstairs and I was down there sleeping on the couch but suddenly

about 2 o'clock in the morning, I wake with a bunch of flashlights in my face.

And I woke up, and the S.W.A.T. team was in my house.

I was very confused and scared.

Then I saw my mom in handcuffs and her friend being put into the police car.

So I was able to talk with my mom a little but...

Later I started crying and we both started crying.

About an hour of the cops searching the house, locking my dog up on the bathroom.

They were tearing up my room.

It got to a point were they found drugs, I don't know what kind, they found drugs under

my moms bed.

So the cops confirmed the search or whatever and the last sight I seen my mom was being

dragged away from me by the cops.

I stared staying at my grandpas and grandmas, then went to staying with my aunt and move there...

Then we moved 60 miles, like, away from my home town.

And she's supposed to get out in 4 or so months but that has to be the most traumatizing,

saddest, scariest moments of my life.

Which Locks Your Phone Best: Pins, Patterns or Passwords? - Duration: 3:31.

I don't keep a passcode on my phone, I just make my life too boring to hack.

Hey iPhone Addicts, Jules here for Dnews!

It's 2017, and passwords are soooo passé!

It goes without saying that our phones have become our main confidants, and the information

on them; sacrosanct.

In the last few years, we've seen countless variations on phone security, and new authentication

methods on the part of companies like Android and Apple.

Things like fingerprint scanning, encrypted passcodes, even complex patterns that have

to be inputted to gain access into the device.

But technology researchers will soon present a scary reality at the Network and Distributed

System Security Symposium of 2017.

They used covertly taken video of someone using Pattern Lock on their Android device

and paired it with computer vision algorithm software, which was then able to produce the

correct pattern within just five attempts.

The software was able to do this by tracking the victim's fingertips, from as far as

2 and a half meters away.

So, if you thought Pattern Lock was safer than a passcode, maybe it isn't.

Plus, most people don't use difficult to guess patterns or passcodes, making the job

of cracking them even easier.

Some security analysts suggest that the method of locking is less important than using multiple

encryption.

Most phones have an option where after a certain limited number of attempts, the phone locks

itself down until you can get it to a computer for validation, or it simply wipes the device

clean.

But even this encryption can be subverted by making multiple copies of the phone's

software.

So maybe the solution is to have a better password than just a four digit number of

nine-point pattern.

A four digit pin has about 10,000 possible combinations, a four-to-nine-point pattern

has closer to 400,000 combinations, but if you use an actual, alphanumeric password,

the number of options increases exponentially.

Even if you use a five-character alphanumeric password, with 90 different character options,

you'll end up with almost six billion different combinations.

That's pretty secure.

But of course, if someone sees you input your password, whether it be a camera, or just

someone looking over your shoulder, your security is gone altogether.

So what about fingerprint scanning?

That's safe, right?

Well, for starters, your fingerprint isn't really protected.

As we've talked about before on DNews, a number of companies have shown that fingerprint

unlocking can be done using 3D printed prints.

In 2013, a hacking group called the Chaos Computer Club took a photograph of a fingerprint,

laser printed it, poured rubber over the pattern, and was able to use this mold to unlock a

phone.

And of course, there's the less scientific method of just knocking you out and pressing

your thumb against the phone.

And legally, a fingerprint is not even considered a "password".

That might seem obvious, but an important example is if you are arrested and the police

want to go through your phone.

The Fifth Amendment says that you cannot be compelled to provide self-incriminating evidence,

like a password, but according to a court in Virginia, your fingerprint is not incriminating

information.

Other biometric ideas are in the works to help keep phones secure, and may one day be

standard on all phones.

It's already possible to recognize a designated person using their heart-rate, their vein

pattern under the skin, even by the iris and retina in the eye.

For now, it may just be a good idea to keep sensitive data off your phone.

If you want to know more about how phones can be hacked, check out this video here.

So that's hacking your phone, but did you know you can hack your body and implant technology

in it?

Our friends at Zoetic cover that in this video, here.

And what do you guys use?

A pattern? a pin? a password?

Your fingerprint?

Let us know down below in the comments and don't forget to like and subscribe for more

10 Insane Glitches that Actually Make Video Games Better - Duration: 6:44.

10 Insane Video Game Glitches That Made the Game Better

When video games were in their infancy, glitches were rare.

It's hard to screw up the programming in Pong.

But as games grow in size and complexity, errors pop up that leave gamers scratching

their heads.

These are ten of craziest, most mind-bending glitches that somehow actually made the games

better.

Grand Theft Auto V -- Flying Sharks Water environments in video games are always

terrifying.

You're usually struggling against a limited air supply, slow movement, and the fact that

you're no longer top of the food chain.

Grand Theft Auto V brings that same horror to you...out of the water.

The sharks in GTA V couldn't care less about the laws of physics.

Nature's perfect killing machine will swim right up out of the water and into the air,

and this isn't just an amusing glitch.

The sharks won't hesitate to take a bite out of you.

It's like the universe decided to avenge all those poor innocents you ran down instead

of doing the missions.

Halo 2 -- Super Jumping We're convinced there's a perfectly technical

explanation for why certain locations in Halo 2 had the potential to send you soaring into

the air, but a far more reasonable answer is that the earth decided to reject you for

sucking.

Certain multiplayer maps allowed players to 'super jump' to otherwise unreachable locations.

A common strategy was to grab a sniper rifle and run for the jump site, then spend the

rest of the map tidily picking off the enemy team.

The only problem was when players didn't know how, and instead handed off the power weapons

to the enemy team instead of paying attention to what's around them.

Looking at you, XxSniperxX420.

World of Warcraft -- Biological Warfare It's not often than an in-game incident attracts

the attention of the CDC, but if any game could, it would be World of Warcraft.

After Blizzard introduced Hakkar the Soulflayer, a boss for the 20-man raid Zul'Gurub, players

quickly lamented the Corrupted Blood spell.

Not only could it drop HP to zero extraordinarily quickly, but it could spread to anyone nearby.

It's no surprise then than Hunters realized they could dismiss their pets and carry the

disease with them...out of the raid.

Soon, players were spreading the Corrupted Blood plague into major cities, completely

wiping out population centers with speeds that made the Bubonic Plague sit back and

pout with jealousy.

Pokemon Red/Blue -- Missingo Ah, Pokemon.

The game that defined so many childhoods and launched the worldwide phenomena we know and

love today.

When Pokemon Red and Blue were released, the cartridges weren't capable of storing a huge

amount of data.

After all was said and done, there were 256 potential slots for Pokemon, of which only

151 were used.

Missingo is short for "missing number," and was the error code thrown out by the game

when it didn't know what Pokemon should appear.

Missingo could be a variety of different, weird-looking sprites, but was far better

known for the side effect: producing a near-infinite amount of whatever the sixth item in your

inventory is.

Hello, Rare Candies.

The Sims -- Demon Babies The Sims is an incredibly popular franchise,

especially among gamers who prefer a more laid-back style of gameplay that doesn't involve

guns.

But it may involve an exorcism here and there.

A strange glitch has appeared, which gives certain player's babies the look of children

that need to be bathed in holy water.

Distended limbs, bulging eyes, grotesque fingernails, you name it -- these babies are freaky.

The cause of the glitch isn't fully known, although it's suspected that it stems from

people playing on computers that aren't quite up to the task of running The Sims.

Civilization -- Nuclear Ghandicaust Perhaps the most famous glitch of all time

comes from Civilization.

Veteran players will remember how Ghandi, a peace-loving character, would suddenly turn

psychotic and being nuking the planet.

None of that was intention.

The leaders in Civilization were given 'aggression ratings' to match their real-world counterparts.

To no one's surprise, Ghandi's aggression rating was the lowest it could be: one.

But Ghandi would always try to win through Diplomacy, which resulted in his aggression

rating being lowered by two points.

Since computer code doesn't go into the negatives, this looped it back around to a rating of

255.

In the span of a single turn, the peace-loving Ghandi would lose every shred of sanity and

begin dropping atom bombs from orbit like it was going out of style.

And it was.

Because Ghandi killed everything.

Space Invaders -- Increasing Difficulty Almost every gamer alive knows of Space Invaders

and the way it increased it's difficulty -- by making the aliens move quickly the less there

were on screen.

The only problem is...they're supposed to move at the same speed.

Tomohiro Nishikado, the developer of the game, spent a full year building the hardware required

to run it.

Even then, the hardware struggled to keep up.

As you kill the enemies, the hardware is able to render the graphics more quickly, resulting

in one of the best-known difficulty sliders today.

Race N'Chase -- Psychotic Cops Long before Grand Theft Auto, a small studio

called DMA Design produced a game called Race N Chase.

There were two major problems.

Play testers thought it sucked, and the game could barely run without crashing.

More and more updates were put in place to stabilize the code, but all of these updates

had one major consequence: they made the police AI in the game completely insane.

Rather than drive like normal people, the police would ram players and try to crash

them.

The play testers loved this accidental mechanic, and the studio ran with it.

While Race N Chase was never released by that name, it was released later -- as Grand Theft

Auto.

And DMA Design is now known as Rockstar.

An accidental glitch created one of the most popular game franchises of all time.

Skyrim -- Bucket Head It's almost cheating to put a Bethesda title

on a list of glitches.

There are so many strange events that happen in open-world games, especially those the

size of Skyrim, but one in particular stands out.

Skyrim lets players move items around, perhaps for the purpose of decoration.

One player decided to pick up a bucket and put it on a shopkeeper's head, and then quickly

realized the shopkeeper was completely blind.

It's thievery made easy.

Just find a bucket, drop it upside down on someone's head, and cue up Yakety Sax while

you clean out all of their worldly possessions.

Super Smash Bro.

Brawl -- Pikaman Dedicated Smash Bros. players got a bit bored

of the base game and decided to change out character movesets.

After all, who wouldn't want to play as Pikachu with Ganondorf's moves?

Totally innocent, right?

Wrong.

As players quickly discovered, some changes should never be made.

Swapping Pikachu's moves for Ganondorf's resulted in human transmutation-levels of crimes against

humanity.

Because the game expected limbs to be in a certain position certain techniques, the character

skins were stretched out, resulting in what players dubbed Pikaman -- an abomination of

all Pikachu's cuteness, and proof that true evil exists in the world.

Video games, right?

Glitches are inevitable, but sometimes they lead the enough hilarity to make up for the

occasional inconvenience.

Kellyanne Conway Wants Journalists Fired For "Talking Smack" - Duration: 5:33.

Farron: Trump Advisor Kellyanne Conway appeared on the Sunday talk shows this past weekend

to tell FOX News' Chris Wallace exactly what she thinks of the Corporate Media' Coverage

of Donald Trump.

Take a look.

Wallace: Chief Strategist, Steve Bannon, went much further.

"The media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for

a while", but Bannon wasn't finished.

"The media has zero integrity, zero intelligence and no hard work.

You're the opposition party, not the Democratic Party.

You're the opposition party."

Kellyanne, do you understand how offensive that is?

Conway: I understand how offensive it was to never be taken seriously that Donald Trump

would be elected President.

On great days we were ignored, on most days we were mocked.

Wallace: A lot of us reported on it fairly.

That's a different issue.

Conway: No, no, no, it is the issue because it extends into this presidency.

Chris, you can't put a piece of tissue paper between the way Donald Trump was covered as

the Republican candidate, the Republican nominee, the President Elect and the President.

It's all the same.

There's no question that when you look at the contributions made by the media, money

contributions, they went to Hillary Clinton.

We have all the headlines.

People should be embarrassed.

Not one network person has been let go, not one silly political analyst in pundit who

talked smack all day long about Donald Trump has been let go.

They're on panels every Sunday.

They're on cable news every day.

Who is the first editorial writer, where's the first blogger that will be let go that

embarrassed his or her outlets?

We know all their names.

I'm too polite to call them out by name, but they know who they are.

Farron: Now Kellyanne Conway is obviously trying to out Bannon Steve Bannon who just

last week said that the media is the opposition party.

Kellyanne Conway obviously clearly believes that, but she thinks we should go a step further

than when Bannon suggested that the media should keep their mouth shut.

She actually wants people to lose their jobs if they report negative things about Donald

Trump.

According to Conway's appearance on FOX News this past Sunday, Donald Trump got far more

negative coverage than anyone else in the campaign.

What are we going to do?

Donald Trump was treated so poorly by the media.

It was just disgusting.

You know what, she's right because remember all those times when the media was talking

about Donald Trump in those Benghazi hearings and Donald Trump and his private email servers,

and then Donald Trump, maybe he's too sick to be President, or Donald Trump being a socialist,

or Donald Trump being ... Oh, no, those were the Democrats who were attacked by the Corporate

Media at every given turn.

Donald Trump, yeah he got negative coverage because he did and said stupid things.

When audio is leaked that has your candidate talking, bragging about grabbing women by

their genitals, yeah you're going to get some negative press coverage about that.

Sorry, that's the way the world works, Kellyanne.

You can't just go and fire people for this.

Didn't your candidate run saying that he was going to bring jobs back to America, and here

you are literally telling us you want to kill jobs, you want to make people be unemployed?

That's not how it works.

You may not like the media, but that's because you're an idiot.

When you say stupid things, when your boss does something stupid or racist, or irresponsible

or illegal, it is the job of the American Press to report about it.

I'm sorry that that offends you, but you know what, the truth isn't always pretty.

As it stands right now we're not seeing media outlets report lies about your candidate except

maybe FOX News, the guy you were talking to.

Other than that people are just reporting what's happening.

I'm sorry that your boss is so concerned about his crowd size and feels the need to lie about

it.

We have pictures, pictures don't lie.

I'm sorry that your boss I guess ordered a Photoshop of his hand so that it looked bigger

when he was patting President Obama on the back.

The Getty images picture of that released clearly shows that there was manipulation

of the official photo that the White House released.

I'm sorry that you hate the truth so much, Kellyanne, but that doesn't mean that reporters

need to be fired.

All it means is that more reporters need to be hired in order to keep up with the constant

bullshit that is coming from you and your boss.

Right now there's simply not enough people, there's not enough hours in the day to talk

about all of the horrible things that we have seen from the Trump Administration in just

their first two weeks in office.

Let's not fire members of the media.

Let's go on a hiring spree.

Let's show Kellyanne Conway just how oppositional the media can truly be when you turn us into

the enemy.

Hearthstone - 4 Heroes That Got CANCELLED - Duration: 5:28.

Heroes that Didn't Make it Into Hearthstone

Whats up guys its me Jeremy!

Did you guys know that there are actually quite a few heroes that got cancelled/removed

from Hearthstone in the early pre-alpha development phases?

The game originally was planned to have 2 heroes for each class, one alliance and one

horde.

This was later changed to one per class, although we've gotten some alternate hero skins now.

A bunch of different characters were considered / tested before the final hero was decided

for each class, and we could have been pretty close to having an entirely different main

cast of characters!

Let's take a look at some of these cancelled heroes and find out a part of what hearthstone

could have been!

Kael'Thas Sunstrider First up it's Kael'Thas Sunstrider, a

mage hero who we can see in some really early drafts of the game based on some of the development

info that we have.

Kael'Thas was the prince of Quel'Thalas, the forest that was home to the high elves

before Arthas waged war on it.

After Quel'Thalas was destroyed, Kael'Thas turned to darkness and became an ally to the

Burning legion.

He tried to summon Kil'jaeden through the sunwell, but was stopped and defeated.

Now one of Blizzard's main objectives with determining the nine heroes in the game was

to have a good diversity of both races and genders.

Although Jaina in general is slightly more iconic to the warcraft universe than Kael'Thas,

there's definitely a shortage of blood elf characters that were viable to be hearthstone

heroes, which is likely why Kael'Thas was considered.

Fortunately for Jaina, Valeera ended up fulfilling that role, and so Jaina ended up being the

mage hero we know and love today.

Wilfred Fizzlebang Next up it's Wilfred Fizzlebang!

So originally Blizzard wanted to have an alliance and horde hero for each class.

Obviously Gul'Dan would have been the horde hero, so Blizzard had Wilfred be the alliance

one.

Wilfred isn't super important to the story, but he is famous for being the gnome that

was trying to summon a doomguard but accidentally summoned Jaraxxus.

The plan to have Wilfred in the game is actually how Jaraxxus became a card, because Ben Brode

felt it was a flavor failure to have Wilfred be in the game without Jaraxxus.

Now since Blizzard ended up having only one hero per class, it's pretty obvious that

Wilfred would get cut over Gul'Dan, but he ended up getting his own card so it all

worked out for him.

Tirion Fordring Up next we have Tirion Fordring, who we can

also see being a hero in some early images of development!

Tirion is a pretty famous paladin from World of Warcraft, with killing the lich king being

just one out of his many notable accomplishments.

Tirion also got his own card pretty much from the start of the game, so it's likely that

if he had been the hero Uther would have gotten a pretty strong paladin legendary as well.

It's likely that Blizzard had actually already designed the stats/effect for the paladin

legendary they wanted, but since Tirion fit the card better because he has the legendary

sword Ashbringer and Uther just has his hammer, they made Uther the hero and Tirion the legendary.

Edwin Vancleef Up next it's Edwin Vancleef!

Ben Brode actually tweeted that the original Rogue Hero was actually Edwin, and we can

also see him being the rogue hero from some of the development pictures that we have.

While Edwin is the leader of the defias brotherhood and has some pretty cool lore attached to

him, he doesn't really feel important enough to be a hero.

Additionally, one of Blizzard's biggest priorities with deciding the heroes was to

have good racial diversity.

They already had a pretty good amount of humans, and a definite shortage of blood elves, so

Valeera ended up being chosen.

One interesting thing to note is that Valeera is known for not being a part of either the

horde or alliance, she even has a quote "I am neither Horde nor Alliance.

What has either faction ever done for me?"

So it's pretty likely that she was chosen as the hero after Blizzard decided to just

have one hero for each class.

Still though Vancleef got his own legendary so all's well that ends well.

Those are some of the heroes that didn't make it into Hearthstone, which one was your

favorite?

Let us know in the comments!

And it looks like that's gonna be it from me, if you enjoyed the video drop a like,

subscribe if you want, thanks for watching, and I'll see you guys next time!

10 SINISTER STATE MOVES, INCLUDING KILLING PROTESTERS, PROVE 1ST AMENDMENT IS DYING - Duration: 14:31.

10 SINISTER STATE MOVES, INCLUDING KILLING PROTESTERS, PROVE 1ST AMENDMENT IS DYING.

by Claire Bernish

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting

the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the

right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress

of grievances. President Donald Trumps first week in office

has seen a tumultuous mix of sweeping executive actions peppered with a few pleasant surprises;

but if one thing proves true as with the first term of any new president there

will be cause for someone to protest something. Indeed, before Trump even took the oath of

office, protesters descended on Washington, D.C. marching en masse down the middle

of typically congested roadways, chanting, screaming, and generally causing the sort

of disruptions demonstrators seek in order to draw attention to a cause.

But that most basic right to air ones grievances to elected leaders in a public

forum, often through disruption might soon be a risky endeavor in at least ten states,

as protest is gradually being criminalized in rather astonishing ways.

Lawmakers from North Dakota and Minnesota, to Virginia and the state of Washington, have

proposed or passed legislation levying hefty penalties against anyone who dares to exercise

the basic right to protest against ironically enough legislation and policy found to

be untenable. At the rate such laws have rapidly come to

fruition, even if legislators in your state have yet to propose obstacles to protesting,

the following list should serve as a guide for potential future strictures regarding

your right to speak out. 1. NORTH DAKOTA

North Dakota lawmakers have proposed arguably the most crushing measures against protesters

seemingly specifically targeting water protectors opposing construction of the Dakota

Access Pipeline. Under House Bill 1203, drivers would be permitted

to run down protesters literally so long as they claim they didnt intend to

do so. As the proposed bill states, Notwithstanding any other provision of

law, a driver of a motor vehicle who unintentionally causes injury or death to an individual obstructing

vehicular traffic on a public road, street, or highway, is not guilty of an offense.

In other words, if a protester in a roadway were to be struck by a vehicle and killed,

the driver would not be charged with a crime if they claimed, for example, accidentally

hitting the accelerator instead of the brakes. House Majority Leader Al Carlson proffered

a second bill criminalizing wearing masks to protests; and, though the legislation would

allow exceptions for harsh weather conditions and holidays wear face coverings are traditional,

its an open question how police might interpret those exemptions.

I would be the first to defend your right of free speech and freedom of assembly,

Carlson told a state legislative committee hearing on Tuesday of House Bill 1304, according

to the Billings Gazette. Im always concerned when theres a reason that, I believe, may

be used to hide your identity when youre creating some kind of disturbance.

Should the legislation pass, masks would not be permitted at demonstrations on public property

or roadways nor on private property, unless the owner gives explicit, written consent.

2. MISSOURI Missouri legislators are also hoping to criminalize

mask-wearing at protests in a bill that would make intentional concealment of ones identity

by the means of a robe, mask, or other disguise at any gathering deemed an unlawful assembly

punishable as a Class A misdemeanor with a penalty of up to one full year behind bars.

3. MINNESOTA As alarming as it might be that a mask could

land you in jail in Missouri or that North Dakota drivers can run down protesters without

facing charges, Minnesota lawmakers took the criminalization of demonstrations in an equally

shocking but wholly different direction the wallet.

Minnesotans whose protests force police to intervene would be financially liable for

the cost of the intervention should Rep. Nick Zerwas legislation by written into law.

As the Star Tribune reports, a committee meeting on Tuesday ended abruptly after a House

panel passed Zerwas proposed legislation that would give cities authority to charge

protesters for police services if the demonstrators are convicted of illegal assembly or public

nuisance. The measure would also give cities the option of suing convicted protesters to

recoup expenses from policing the demonstration. Furious residents disrupted that meeting,

rightly questioning the measures constitutionality and what the bill would mean for future ability

to demonstrate against acts of police violence, as in the shooting death of Philando Castile

in 2016 or in any instance where complaint falls on deaf ears and public assembly stands

as the only option. Zerwas and the bills supporters, however,

side with Minnesotans who resent large demonstrations, and say the financial onus of policing protests

should fall on those participating. I have an entire constituency that feels

as though protesters believe that their rights are more important than everyone elses,

Zerwas explained in an interview cited by the Guardian. Well, there is a cost to

that. Rosa Parks sat in the front of the bus. She didnt get out and lay down in front

of the bus. He added, The meters are running and the

taxpayers are holding the bag. And as the Intercept reports, In addition

to the highway-protesting bill, Minnesota lawmakers also proposed a separate piece of

legislation that greatly increases penalties for nonviolent cases involving obstructing

the legal process. Under the bills language, nonviolent obstruction of authorities would

carry imprisonment of not less than 12 months and a fine of up to $10,000.

4. IOWA Where North Dakota legislators want to permit,

in essence, vehicular homicide to curb the blockage of roadways, and Minnesota lawmakers

seek to make such protests too costly, politicians in Iowa would rather throw demonstrators who

block highways in jail for five years. Senator Jake Chapman proposed Senate File

111 in response to an incident in November in which some 100 protesters blocked Interstate

Highway 80 and brought eastbound traffic to a standstill for around 30 minutes much

to the consternation of drivers caught in the unexpected jam.

Look, we have the right to protest. No one disputes that, the lawmaker explained

in defense of his controversial bill, which, incidentally, isnt without opposition.

We encourage that. But there is an appropriate time and an appropriate place to do so. Interstates

are not one of those places. That is what this bill does. It aims to stop that.

As COO of Midwest Ambulance Service, Chapman claims to be concerned such spontaneous highway

blockages obstruct access for emergency services, as well as free commerce and travel.

If passed, Chapmans law would apply to people blocking the travel portion of Iowa

highways with speeds posted at 55 mph or higher. Violators could be charged with a Class D

felony, which includes a sentence of prison time and a fine of at least $750 and up to

$7,500, the Des Moines Register reports. 5. INDIANA

In line with aforementioned proposals, Indiana State Senator Jim Tomes introduced the Block

Traffic and You Die bill or, at least, thats how opponents are characterizing

the Hoosier States anti-protest legislation. Senate Bill 285 would require public officials

to dispatch all available law enforcement to clear roadways using any means necessary

if at least 10 protesters have attempted to obstruct traffic without first obtaining

a permit. Although indeed vague, it is the any means

necessary portion of Tomes proposed law that worries activists who have traditionally

worked with police. Often officers will escort marchers in roadways, blocking cross traffic

for them to pass, ensuring both protesters and drivers remain safe. Thus, opponents of

the legislation find it frivolous and curiously worded and far too open to interpretation.

And there are still more proposed laws restricting the constitutional right to protest.

6. COLORADO In Colorado, the Intercept reports,

Republican state Sen. Jerry Sonnenberg has introduced a bill that would greatly increase

penalties for environmental protesters. Under the proposed law, obstructing or tampering

with oil and gas equipment would be reclassified from a misdemeanor to a class 6 felony,

a category of crime that reportedly can be punished by up to 18 months behind bars and

a fine of up to $100,000. 7. WASHINGTON

Washington State Senator Doug Ericksen proposed creating a new crime to facilitate charging

protesters with a felonies for blocking roads and other assorted activities he hopes

to deem them economic terrorists. Ericksen seeks to allow felony prosecution

of those who intentionally break the law in an attempt to intimidate or coerce private

citizens or the government by obstructing economic activity. However, the broad brush

language in his proposed legislation deeply concerns civil and constitutional rights advocates,

like Doug Honig of the Washington ACLU, who noted in a statement quoted by Q13 FOX,

The statement throws out a lot of broad rhetoric, and well need to see an actual

bill. But were already concerned that some of its loose terms appear to be targeting

civil disobedience as terrorism. Thats the kind of excessive approach to peaceful

protest that our country and state do not need.

Lets keep in mind that civil rights protesters who sat down at lunch counters

could be seen as disrupting business and obstructing economic activity, and

their courageous actions were opposed by segregationists as trying to coerce business and government.

Lawmakers in two states have taken a more unusual route to combat protests.

8. NORTH CAROLINA North Carolina Senator Dan Bishop wants to

provide controversial Governor Pat McCrory and incidentally any politician an

official safe space away from hecklers who might approach to, well, scream unpleasant

words. Bishop, reports the News & Observer, decided

verbal criticism of politicians was worthy of legal protection after witnessing McCrory

being followed and yelled at over inaugural weekend in Washington, D.C. Should the proposed

legislation pass, it would thus be a crime to threaten, intimidate, or retaliate against

a present or former North Carolina official in the course of, or on account of, the performance

of his or her duties. 9. MICHIGAN

Rather than worrying about political or environmental protesters, Michigan lawmakers turned their

attention to union workers with two proposed pieces of legislation aimed to sharply curtail

the right to picket for grievances such as pay or safety conditions.

One bill would increase fines against picketers to $1,000 per person per day of a picket and

$10,000 per day for an organization or union involved in the picket that is deemed to be

an illegal mass picket, the Detroit Free Press reported last month.

The other would repeal a law that requires employers to include information about an

ongoing strike when they advertise to hire employees who will replace existing, but striking

employees at a company. 10. VIRGINIA

Only in Virginia did a lone lawmaker stand in opposition to their partys proposed

legislative crackdown on protest, as the Daily Press reports,

Senate Bill 1055 would have increased penalties for failing to disperse when police declare

an unlawful assembly, upping a misdemeanor that brings only a fine now to one with potential

jail time. It was one of four bills on protest punishments filed this session by state Sen.

Richard Stuart, R-Montross, and the last of the four to die.

* * * All told, this collection of anti-protest

legislation constitutes an overarching attempt to quash the right of the people to demonstrate

when the government errs against them and the result will only increase near unbearable

police state conditions already choking out First Amendment protections in the United

States. With division at unprecedented levels over

politics, police violence, and, really, any nameable issue, such extraneous laws can only

be attempting one thing. As Lee Rowland, a senior staff attorney at

the American Civil Liberties Union, warned in a statement to the Intercept,

This trend of anti-protest legislation dressed up as obstruction bills is deeply

troubling. A law that would allow the state to charge a protester $10,000 for stepping

in the wrong place, or encourage a driver to get away with manslaughter because

the victim was protesting, is about one thing: chilling protest.
