YOUR BREATH IS YOUR BRAIN'S REMOTE CONTROL, NEW STUDY SAYS - Duration: 7:31.
YOUR BREATH IS YOUR BRAINS REMOTE CONTROL, NEW STUDY SAYS
For centuries, yogis have been expressing the incredible benefits meditation can provide.
More recently, meditation has become a more mainstream means of treating anxiety and stress,
as deep breathing has been proven to calm the nervous system and reduce our heart rate.
Avid meditators or individuals who practice breathing techniques typically report that
such practices have the ability to silence or slow down the mind. This begs the question:
How exactly does meditation and controlled breathing affect our brain?
Weve all heard the saying take a deep breath, and theres actually some merit
to that. A new study published in the Journal of Neuroscience found that theres a direct
link between nasal breathing and our cognitive function.
The Link Between Our Breath and Our Brain
While practicing yoga, you typically breathe through your nose, but why is that? I find
breathing through the nose to be less strenuous and more peaceful, especially while practicing
yoga. Well, Northwestern Medicine scientists may have just found an explanation for that.
The scientists began by testing the electrical brain signals of seven epilepsy patients with
electrodes in their brains. Their findings showed that the rhythms of the participants
natural breathing matched the slow electrical rhythms in their brain regions associated
with their sense of smell.
The scientists also noted that during nasal inhalation, the fast electrical rhythms in
the amygdala, responsible for our ability to process emotions, and the hippocampus,
associated with memories and emotions, became stronger.
To gain a better understanding of their research, the scientists then examined an additional
60 healthy participants to discover the effects nasal breathing has on memory and emotional
behaviour. The participants were shown both scared and surprised faces, and then they
had to immediately determine the emotional expression of the face they just saw. As it
turned out, the participants were able to identify the scared faces much faster when
they were inhaling through the nose than when they were shown the images when exhaling or
when breathing through the mouth.
The scientists also tested the participants by showing them images and then asking them
to recall them later. The participants were much better at recalling the original images
if they were shown them on an inhale breath through the nose.
The studys findings suggest that the act of nasal breathing plays an integral role
in coordinationg electrical brain signals in the olfactory smell cortex, the brain
regions that receive input from our nose. Its clear that the act of breathing through
the nose, even when we dont smell anything, can still affect our emotions and memory.
This is fascinating because we often associate smell with memory and emotion. However, this
information proves that its not just the sense of smell that can remind us of a particular
day or moment in our lives, but also the simple act of breathing though the nose itself.
Nasal breathing can therefore be considered the remote control of the brain, because
breathing through the nose directly affects the electrical signals in the smell regions
of the brain. By controlling our breath, we can actually improve brain function in order
to develop more accurate and quicker emotional recognition abilities and improve our memory
simultaneously.
Keep in mind that just because the inhalation is whats associated with cognitive function,
that doesnt mean that the exhalation isnt equally as important! Studies have shown that
controlled breathing, which often means slow inhales and exhales, and meditation can have
incredibly beneficial effects on human health.
This isnt the first study to prove the effects controlled breathing can have on the
brain. A study conducted by Harvard researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) determined
that meditation literally rebuilds the brains grey matter, which is associated with memory,
sense of self, empathy, and stress. Participants practiced, on average, 27 minutes of mindfulness
exercises daily and experienced significant improvements after only two months. This is
one of the first studies to prove that meditation can actually change the brain.
Other Health Benefits of Controlled Breathing and the Relaxation Response
The Relaxation Response is basically the opposite of the fight or flight response and
can be described as a deep relaxation that engages the parasympathetic nervous system,
otherwise known as meditation. You can also induce the Relaxation Response through controlled
breathing, yoga, and other mindfulness practices.
According to Herbert Benson, M.D., of Harvard Medical School, the Relaxation Response can
counteract the physiological changes of stress and the fight or flight response, including
muscle tension, headache, upset stomach, racing heartbeat, and shallow breathing.
A Harvard study found that meditation and the Relaxation Response can mitigate symptoms
of Irritable Bowl Syndrome (IBS) and improve gut health. The study showed that by inducing
the Relaxation Response, participants showed reduced symptoms of IBS as well as decreased
anxiety and overall better quality of life.
Another study performed at the Chopra Center for Wellbeing compared a group of meditators
to a group of non-meditators and found that meditating can have long-term benefits, including
improved mental health and cellular health.
Another study showed that meditation and controlled breathing can protect and lengthen telomeres,
which are located on the ends of chromosomes. If your chromosomes are healthy, your cells
are healthy as well, further proving that meditation can aid cellular health.
In addition to physiological changes, meditation can also provoke emotional and psychological
changes as well. This study proved that experienced meditators produce increased levels of melatonin.
The meditators were studied after participating in either Transcendental Meditation-Sidhi
or yoga, both of which were found to help increase melatonin.
Lastly, according to Ellen L. Idler, Ph.D., a professor at Emory College, those who practice
spiritual modalities including meditation are more likely to make positive and healthy
choices. Idler goes on to explain that through meditation, we can decrease chronic stress
and the potential for disease.

Is This The Beginning Of The End For U S Empire? - poltics - Duration: 8:41.
Is This The Beginning Of The End For U.S. Empire?
Before I get into the meat of this post, I want to revisit something I wrote back in
January.
From the post, Very Powerful People in the U.S. Government Want War This is Their
Sales Pitch:
We need to understand that those who want this war will be absolutely relentless. The
sales pitch will not end until they get exactly what they want. This is where all of us critical
thinkers need to play a key role. We must be prepared to diligently analyze all unsubstantiated
official claims, and push back against the war-mongers, because we know for certain the
oligarch-owned corporate media wont. We must be prepared to inform our fellow citizens
about whats happening so that we dont fall victim to a cheap sales pitch with devastating
consequences. Unfortunately, we must also be prepared for a possible deep state false
flag if the current sales tactic falls on deaf ears.
America cannot win a global war of such a scale if it is based on false pretenses and
in the absence of exceedingly strong public support. This support does not exist. Will
this serve as a necessary restraint against the masters of war and their devious plans?
Its too early to tell, but I do know that if we are unnecessarily pushed into a global
conflagration, it will not end well for us. If this is the road our twisted status quo
insists on taking us down, let us never forget who they are and the self-serving motivations
behind their actions.
Four months later, the deep state got exactly what it wanted. Trumps weaknesses have
been identified and exploited, and hes successfully been manipulated into neocon
foreign policy like George W. Bush and Barack Obama before him. Ive spent much of the
past several months warning about exactly what happened last night, but the die is now
cast. Theres no turning back from the path were on.
And dont give me this garbage about Trump playing 4D chess. Trumps a brilliant
salesman, and thats about it. Theres nothing special or superior about Donald Trump
intellectually, and hes one of the most unwise people to ever become President. There
was a hope he meant what he said about non-interventionism during the campaign, but that hope should
be entirely extinguished at this point. Trump is a very weak man desperately looking for
praise from those he claims to hate.
The purpose of todays post is not to discuss what happened last night. All of you have
read the news by now. My intent today is to explain what I think this means for the years
ahead. I believe last nights strike represents the beginning of the end for U.S. empire.
Although the U.S. has been declining domestically for this entire century, America has still
been calling all the shots on the international front. This makes sense in late-stage empire,
as the focus of the fat and happy elite becomes singularly obsessed with domination
and power, while the situation back home festers and rots.
Trump won on an America first platform that promised to emphasize the well-being
of American citizens over geopolitical adventurism. We now know for certain hes been manipulated
into the imperial mindset, and his recklessness will merely accelerate U.S. decline on the
world stage, and in turn, back home.
If anyones playing 4D chess its Russia. Russia is anti-fragile at this point, as has
been proved by Putins survival in the face of economic sanctions, a collapsing ruble
and a plunge in oil prices. Putin is still standing and arguably as powerful as ever.
Not to mention the fact that the USSR completely disintegrated and collapsed within the past
30 years. Theyve been through a lot as a people. Meanwhile, the U.S. is extraordinarily
fragile and weak by comparison, a distinction that will become quite obvious to us all in
the years ahead. I dont say this with any hint of glee or schadenfreude, Im just
stating the facts as I see them.
None of this implies that Russias leadership are a bunch of good people by any means. What
I am saying is that they are a thousand times more strategic and intelligent compared to
U.S. leadership.
To prove the point, this would be a good time to review a post I published back in 2014,
Tensions Between the U.S. and Russia Are Worse Than You Realize Remarks by Foreign Minister
Sergey Lavrov. Heres some of what I noted:
There are two reasons I think the following remarks by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey
Lavrov are so important.
First, as someone who spends much of his time analyzing and critiquing the many destructive
policy decisions made by American leaders, I was shocked to find how accurate his description
of the U.S. power structures mindset seems to be. He gets it, and he is more or less
trying to warn the world that Americas leaders are basically power-drunk children.
I concur.
Second, Lavrov also describes the negative impact that this behavior has had on the Russian
psyche generally. He expresses dismay that the U.S. status quo sees the world as unipolar,
and attempts to tackle every problem from the perspective that might is right. In no
uncertain terms, Lavrov makes it clear that Russia will not stand for this. I dont
think the Russians are bluffing, so this is a very dangerous situation.
If there was actually someone in the U.S. State Department capable of such introspective
and clear thinking, we might actually defuse this situation. Dont hold your breath.
You should really read the entire post to see Lavrovs comments for yourself in order
to truly understand why I came to the above conclusions.
U.S. leadership is an absolute joke and will drive this entire country into a brick wall
in the years ahead. John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Chucky Schumer and Nancy Pelosi, are you kidding
me? They remind me of George Armstrong Custer, and we all know how that turned out.
The media is even worse. In what Glenn Greenwald accurately called one of the sickest things
ever to appear on US television, MSNBCs Brian Williams gushed about the beauty
of U.S. cruise missiles.
This is not the sort of thing you see in a confident, brave, and civilized nation, its
the sort of stuff youd expect to see toward the end. Its the stuff of craven war-mongers,
of dishonest cowards, of a totally deranged and very dangerous media. The signs are everywhere;
imperial decline is set to accelerate rapidly in the coming years.
Fine, but how is all this going to play out? Obviously nobody really knows, but I do think
weve entered a new period in American history. I think its basically a crossing of the
Rubicon moment for the American empire. Personally, I dont expect a strong and visible military
response from Russia in the near-term. I dont think Putin wants to give the U.S. media and
newly minted neocon Donald Trump an excuse to do anything truly crazy, which they can
blame on Russia in the court of public opinion. I think Putin is too smart for that. Rather,
what I think hell do is make all sorts of moves behind the scenes to weaken Americas
economic power, while at the same time engaging in minor provocations to tempt the imbeciles
in charge of U.S. foreign policy to make further mistakes abroad, to which theyll emphatically
oblige.
In other words, Russia will attempt to make the U.S. extend itself further in a region
where no real success is possible, at the same time that the American economy deteriorates
further. Recall that the current very weak economic recovery has been going on
for nearly a decade. This cycle is very long in the tooth, and all Russia really needs
to do is sit back, make some moves behind the scenes and allow the U.S. to collapse
upon itself in its hubris and stupidity. This is precisely what I think is going to happen.
Expect more of all the above as the U.S. empire enters its most devastating phase of collapse.
Think about what it might mean for you and your family and prepare accordingly.

Seeding the Cosmos for Life Violent and Explosive Star Birth Captured in the Orion Molecular Cloud - Duration: 8:11.
Seeding the Cosmos for Life Violent and Explosive Star Birth Captured in the Orion Molecular
Cloud
Star birth can be a violent and explosive event, as dramatically illustrated in new
ALMA images.Around 500 years ago, a pair of adolescent protostars had a perilously close
encounter that blasted their stellar nursery apart.
Astronomers using the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) have examined the widely scattered
debris from this explosive event, gaining new insights into the sometimes-fierce relationship
among sibling stars.
Shortly after starting to form some 100,000 years ago, several protostars in the Orion
Molecular Cloud 1 (OMC-1), a dense and active star factory about 1,500 light-years from
Earth just behind the Orion Nebula, latched onto each other gravitationally and gradually
drew closer.
Eventually, two of these stars either grazed each other or collided, triggering a powerful
eruption that launched other nearby protostars and hundreds of giant streamers of dust and
gas into interstellar space at speeds greater than 150 kilometers per second.
This cataclysmic interaction released as much energy as our Sun emits over the course of
10 million years.
Today, the remains of this spectacular explosion are visible from Earth.
"What we see in this once calm stellar nursery is a cosmic version of a 4th of July fireworks
display, with giant streamers rocketing off in all directions," said John Bally with the
University of Colorado and lead author on a paper published in the Astrophysical Journal.
Groups of stars such as those in OMC-1 are born when a cloud of gas hundreds of times
more massive than our Sun begins to collapse under its own gravity.
In the densest regions, protostars form and begin to drift about randomly.
Over time, this random motion can dampen, which allows some of the stars to fall toward
a common center of gravity, usually dominated by a particularly large protostar.
If these stars draw too close to each other before they drift away into the galaxy, violent
interactions can occur.
According to the researchers, such explosions are expected to be relatively short lived,
with the remnants like those seen by ALMA lasting only centuries.
"Though fleeting, protostellar explosions may be relatively common," said Bally.
"By destroying their parent cloud, as we see in OMC-1, such explosions may also help to
regulate the pace of star formation in these giant molecular clouds."
Bally and his team observed this feature previously with the Gemini-South telescope in Chile.
These earlier images, taken in the near infrared, reveal the remarkable structure of the streamers,
which extend nearly a light-year from end to end.
Hints of the explosive nature of this outflow were first uncovered in 2009 with the Submillimeter
Array in Hawaii.
The new ALMA data, however, provide much greater clarity, unveiling important details about
the distribution and high-velocity motion of the carbon monoxide (CO) gas inside the
streamers.
This helps astronomers understand the underlying force of the blast and the impact such events
could have on star formation across the galaxy.
"People most often associate stellar explosions with ancient stars, like a nova eruption on
the surface of a decaying star or the even more spectacular supernova death of an extremely
massive star," Bally says.
"ALMA has given us new insights into explosions on the other end of the stellar life cycle,
star birth."
The Orion Nebula, also known as M42, is one of the brightest and most famous nebulae in
the sky.
The star forming region's glowing gas clouds and hot young stars are on the right in this
sharp and colorful two frame mosaic that includes the smaller nebula M43 near center and dusty,
bluish reflection nebulae NGC 1977 on the left.
Located at the edge of an otherwise invisible giant molecular cloud complex, astronomers
have also identified what appear to be numerous infant solar systems.
6a00d8341bf7f753ef0154356ce1c7970c-800wi
Orion is a cosmic zoo, with protoplanetary disks, brown dwarfs, intense and turbulent
motions of the gas, and the photo-ionizing effects of massive nearby stars as well as
supersonic "bullets" -- each ten times the diameter of Pluto's orbit and tipped with
iron atoms glowing bright blue, believed to have been formed one thousand years ago from
an unknown violent event.
Over 13 billion years ago at least one of the domains of life may have begun in nebular
clouds.
If restricted to the Milky Way, which is 13.6 billion years old, the first chemical combinations
would have had billions of years to become a self-replicating organism with a DNA genome
long before the existence of Earth.
Nebular clouds are thought to be most likely environment for synthesizing and promoting
the evolution of molecules needed for the origin of life.
Giant gas nebulae such as Orion are storehouses of sugars that form ribose -- the backbone
of RNA.
With a universe full of sugar, it's possible that early RNA worlds were generated and are
evolving in their own unique ways throughout the observable universe.
RNA coding is what gave primitive cell structures the catalyst they needed to become life.
The building blocks for DNA could have been generated or combined within interstellar
clouds and DNA would become part of the molecular-protein-amino acid complex.
Hydrogen, oxygen, carbon, calcium, sulfur, nitrogen and phosphorus for example are continually
irradiated by ions, which can generate small organic molecules which evolve into larger
complex organic molecules that result in the formation of amino acids and other compounds.
Phosphorus, for example, is rare in our solar system and may have been non-existent on the
early Earth; phosphorus is essential for the manufacture of DNA.
Polarized radiation in the nebula cloud leads to the formation of proteins, nucleobases
and then DNA.
The combination of hydrogen, carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, cyanide and several other elements,
could create adenine, which is a DNA base, whereas oxygen and phosphorus could ladder
DNA base pairs.
Glycine has also been identified in the interstellar clouds.
In 2009, the Herschel Space Observatory using the telescope's heterodyne instrument for
the far infrared revealed the chemical fingerprints of potentially life-enabling organic molecules
in the Orion nebula, one of the most prolific chemical factories in space, although the
full extent of its chemistry and the pathways for molecule formation
are not well understood.
