IDIOM: PUSH THE ENVELOPE - Duration: 3:22.

h! today i'm back with another idiom for

you and if you didn't know i have a

whole playlist of them so you can check

it out after you watch this video and

today's idiom is to push the envelope

which means to move beyond the limit, be

innovative, go beyond commonly accepted

boundaries, to do something to actually

learn how far you can go, and the risk here

is the whole point. so when you hear it

you're probably think of the actual

thing - envelope , but it's not that easy

this phrase comes from the pilot's

vocabulary and and the envelope in this

phrase is a theoretical area, in which

aircraft can maneuver - move without

getting in trouble , without breaking without

falling down or whatever . so test pilots

whose job is actually to explore the

limits of this theoretical envelope , they

put the aircraft in all the risky

positions to learn how it's going to act

in these positions, they use this phrase

to describe their job, to describe the

action of risking. and this phrase moved

from the pilot vocabulary into wide use

when the Tom Wolfe used it in his book

the right stuff in 1979, the book about

pilots so it basically became just a

regular idiom. I often hear it when people

describe art ,music. basically when people

explore their creativity and

do something that has never been done

before. like doing something very edgy

risky, creating a new sound , when the

risk is actually the point. like when the

beatles started to use multitrack

recording and they started to produce

music that was not possible to actually

perform- you could only do it in the

studio, it was made by different

musicians, different musical instruments

all put together in one record. so yeah

you can say that their producer George

Martin was pushing the envelope with

their sound. so he was exploring how far

can he go and what they can create and

yeah, so this is my idiom for you today

Hey, welcome to this awesome video!

You all know I like Lego trains

but what I also like is alpinism or mountaineering, whatever you want to call it.

And I thought, why not combine these two?

So that's why I'm here in the beautiful Italian Alps

And what I'm going to do is take this backpack up there

It contains a drone, a Lego train and 10 meters of Lego train tack

I'm going to set it up in a very nice snowy alpine environment

and shoot some awesome footage of it so I think it's going to be really awesome!

I've had a bit of a cold so I hope it won't bother me too much

Yesterday I already did a recon mission up there

and I found a very nice spot but I also got a bit of a sun burn

so I need to wear a cap to make sure I won't dissolve today

Let's not waste any more time and let's burn some calories, let's go!

WOOHOO!!!

So this will be the location where I'll be setting up the train

and as you can see we have a very nice view

These are the Brenta dolomites, which is a separate group of dolomites

and it's one of my favorite places on Earth

I love it over here and also over there in the mountains.

The weather is still good and there's no sign that it will change soon

so that is a good thing

The only thing I'm worried about is if this plateau here is level or not

it's always a bit misleading in the mountains of course since nothing is level

and Lego trains do not very well on inclines

so this is something I need to figure out by setting up the track and see if the train will run or not

and that's what I'm going to do now

After an hour of trial and error

I only managed to lay down 5 meters of track

and that is because the whole thing is not level

as you can see, the train there is a bit dug in

next to that I had to make the train a bit lighter

so I removed one wagon unfortunately

I'm going to set up the stations and then we can start filming!

it's all snow again

I'm going down, it's a two hours walk I believe

It's a bit above zero now

and the snow is becoming very slushy

so it's going to be one big slippery way down
