So today, on Twitter, I asked which makeup tutorial you guys wanted to see.
And a lot of you guys voted the Day & Night and the Girl Crush makeup so we're gonna do both.
So Day makeup, we just did it right now
It's an everyday effortless no-makeup makeup look.
It's gonna be like a "My Face But Better"
So that's what we're gonna start with. We're gonna do the day makeup and if you are interested in how
I achieved this look or how she did this makeup on me, continue to watch!
We're gonna start with the base.
And the pollution in Korea has been so bad these days
So even if I didn't wear that much stuff, I should start with skincare
What are you using?
I bought this a couple weeks ago -- A brand called NUXE.
I bought this because it was on sale for 1+1
It's great because it doesn't dry out your skin -- very moisturizing!
The dust in Korea has been so bad. What are you wearing today?
Today, I have sunscreen and a little bit of CC cream*
I can see a little bit of the tint here
Because of the dust, you have to cleanse your face.
Because of the pollution, I lost my voice for a couple days.
That's why you have to wear a mask!
Even if I go out for a little bit, when I wipe my face like this, I can see a lot of dust. The air is so bad these days.
Isn't it very moisturizing?
I'm not going to show you guys.
After that,
We will start with the skincare. And for skincare, I don't usually use expensive products.
This is from the Saem.
Harakeke line!
Yes, do you know it?
Joan: My friend loves this Saerom: The Saem Urban Eco Harakeke Ampoule
I like to pump it twice
I can tell that she really likes this because it's almost done.
Something I like to use every morning.
Just apply a thin layer because it's an ampoule.
Joan: It smells really good! Saerom: Right?
I love it so much, I'm almost done with it.
I don't apply I lot of ampoule because I don't want to risk my makeup looking cakey.
After that, Nature Republic moisture cream.
She's teaching me all the tips because you guys all know -- I'm very bad at makeup
So I have the moisture cream... and you said you have dry skin, right?
Then, let's add half a drop of oil for extra moisture. Here, I have the one from Innisfree.
Joan: You have a lot of roadshop products Saerom: Yes, for skincare, I like to use roadshop brands
Joan: (Kicho) is skincare? Saerom: Yes
If you add the oil, it won't look oily, but your skin will feel much more hydrated than using a cream on its own.
Saerom: We will use the leftovers on your neck Joan: So important!
Gotta prevent having neck wrinkles.
Whenever I use a sheet mask, I use all the leftover serum for my neck after
Yes, with all the leftovers. Can't be wasteful.
Now, with a wet sponge (from Romand)
Because it's wet, it'll transfer more moisture onto your skin. So pat it on and your skin will feel more hydrated.
You can also touch up your makeup this way (?) [LOL SORRY GUYS, I don't understand what she said...]
Joan: The puff feels really good Saerom: It feels very ddong ddong!
And that's it for the skincare!
Done! So now, foundation?
Yes, it's time for the foundation.
So today... you said you have dry skin. So if you just use the Romand, it might feel dry so let's mix it with another.
This one barely has coverage, but it can feel better when it's mixed with a foundation that good for coverage.
So you can always customize it depending on what your skin concern is that day -- more coverage or more moisture.
For the day makeup, we will add more of this tinted foundation while for night,
we can add more coverage.
Sounds good!
Joan: What brand is this? Saerom: It's from a brand called Addiction.
Joan: Is it American? Saerom: Japan? Yeah, it's made in Japan.
And this is actually her line of makeup - Romand. The packaging is so pretty. I just want to show you guys.
Gorgeous!
We are going to use a brush to apply it
Starters usually talk about how it can get quite cakey
But this brush will help you easily apply the foundation
This is a Romand product and there is a quick way of doing this
Okay, teach us
Cause when I first saw that brush, I had no idea how to use it so it's just sitting at my house right now.
Apply gently like this
And then, just quickly
Joan: Oh wow! Saerom: The coverage is great, right?
It doesn't even feel like I have foundation on.
It's because we lightly applied it using this brush.
If you are a beginner, I feel like using tools like this will help the makeup application go smoothly.
Don't apply a bunch at first, work on layering the product.
One layer at a time.
Where did you learn makeup?
I actually didn't learn makeup separately, but I majored in...
What's that?
Painting!
So I guess you can say I learned all the techniques then.
I feel like many makeup artists I know majored in Painting or something Art related.
I'll just cover it once.
Saerom: It's very natural, right? Joan: Wow! Yeah~
Rather than getting over with in one, I like the layering technique.
Right, you can apply less this way.
But on areas you want more coverage, you can apply more like this.
And if you feel a lack of moisture
Use the wet puff again!
Yes, with water, it gets bigger
And if you pat your face with the sponge, it'll help you achieve that dewy finish.
Koreans really like the shine and dewy look
What do you prefer? Matte or the dewy look?
Right in between.
I like dewy and I like matte, but not too overdone.
Now, we are going to use a concealer to cover up the blemishes and spots.
This is from a brand called eglips - similar to bbia, it's very cheap. I think this was under 10,000 won.
I used up a lot of this product.
Yeah, I guess... Okay, she says she used it up, but for me it would've been like hitting pan.
She just has so much makeup.
Yeah, because I have so much makeup, I barely hit pan on any of my products.
Saerom: Because I like to try out many products Joan: Do you always apply it on your hands first?
I like to portion it like this first.
Otherwise, the base can feel really thick.
I've been doing it wrong the whole time.
So apply a little bit at a time.
First, around the nose
This area can get really red so even if you focus on covering this area, your makeup will look nice.
So with the brighter color, we are going to shape your nose so that it looks more defined.
So what foundation do you usually use?
Recently, I've been using the new foundation from Too Cool For School.
Saerom: Cushion foundation? Joan: No, it's a liquid foundation.
I also like to use BB creams, CC creams, & cushion foundations.
Saerom: So anything that's easy to apply, huh? Joan: Yes
When I don't have time, I like to use BB creams or cushion foundations as well.
But whenever I want a perfect makeup day, I'll use a liquid foundation.
Liquid foundations last longer.
But then, I'm always scared to use liquid foundations because it can break you out and I have acne prone skin
So I try to stay away, but on days when I feel like I need coverage, that's when I go for liquid foundation.
So on days when it's very dusty outside, you don't want the dust to stick to your foundation. To mattify,
we gotta set the makeup using a translucent powder. This one is a popular one from innisfree.
The no sebum mineral pact.
I like this one too!
But I prefer using the powder instead of the pact.
I like that one too, but I feel like this one is easier to apply. The powder can come off too white sometimes.
I do use both, but today we'll use the pact.
You want to apply around the hairline so your hair won't stick to the foundation.
You don't want the foundation to get thick around the sides.
Do you have plans for the night?
No, but I feel like I'd want to do something special after getting my makeup done...
Because I know that it's going to turn out really nice.
Saerom: If you did, I would've matched that theme. Joan: No, I don't have anything. Haha!
Maybe? No, I probably won't.
I even like to apply it on the lids before the eye shadow.
I do this too instead of using a separate primer.
If you set the powder like this, the point makeup will have lasting power.
Joan: When I do my makeup, Saerom: Look down, please.
I use one brush.
Does that make you mad?
She's laughing at me!
After this, your eyes will feel matte and that feeling will last a long time.
I just noticed that you naturally have long lashes and your eyebrows are thick
So I feel like we don't have to apply so much makeup.
Do you want me to do this for you or would you like to curl your lashes on your own?
I'll curl them
Saerom: I like curling lashes for people, but I guess it can be scary if you are on the receiving end. Joan: Oh, you can curl them for me. I'm not scared!
Please look down.
There are many who are scared of getting their lashes curled by someone else.
Oh no, I'm good.
Now, let's define your face shape.
We'll start near your forehead
I use this quite often -- the innisfree face designing duo
If you take a look at this, there's a dark and light shade
Hmm I feel like using the light shade will be perfect
Oh, really?
Yeah, sometimes it can look a bit masculine if you use darker shades.
So you want to lightly apply it around your eyes
I feel like we don't even have to fill in your brows
Do you draw them in on the daily?
Yeah, I like to use a browcara
Okay, so I'll just lightly fill them in.
It may not look that different right now, but it's all about those subtle changes.
Before filling in your brows, let's brush them.
Joan: Wow, you really have a lot of brushes Saerom: I do have a lot of brushes 😅
Do you have like a thousand?
I actually don't know how many I have.
Do you have a favorite brand of brushes?
I really like the Picasso brushes.
Saerom: Have you heard of them? Joan: No, I haven't.
Saerom: Here are the Picasso brushes Joan: Oh, so you did major in painting.
Where is it from?
Saerom: The brand name is Picasso Joan: Is it a Japanese brand?
Saerom: No, it's a Korean brand. Joan: Oh, it's Korean!
Where can you buy this?
You can buy it at the Picasso store or online.
This is a popularly used brush brand amongst makeup artists.
Simply brushing your eyebrows can help shape your brows
Now, let's move on to eyeshadow.
I really like this palette - the brown especially. I've been using it for the past 3 days
But I always end up just using the basic colors
Yeah, I use those colors the most as well. Mainly because it's hard to mess up with those colors.
So we'll start with the brightest color
This has a highlighting effect so we can make your eyes pop by applying around it
One of the biggest difference in Western and Korean makeup is the way they shape their brows.
In Korea, we like the straight brows, but in America, the arched look is more popular. Which do you prefer?
Personally, I like the Korean eyebrows because these are my natural eyebrows I didn't get them tattooed
So for me, going for the arched will take forever so I just do what's more convenient and it stuck with me.
Even for brows, I didn't care about them too much until moving to Korea
But then because all the browcaras and eyebrow products, I started to care a little bit
But then, on days when I'm lazy, I leave the house without doing my brows.
Let's use this light color as the base
Saerom: So you don't use a lot of colors on the daily? Joan: No, I really don't.
How about mascara?
Even mascara...
But for day makeup, it's easy to use a few colors for that effortless look.
To you, am I wearing too much makeup?
Yes, it's a lot.
Yeah, people tell me that I wear a lot of makeup
but I don't consider this as a lot.
In America, this is not a lot.
Right, it's much darker + many people wear long lashes.
So this is normal. I'm used to it!
I have a lot of friends who do full makeup like this.
Now, we are going to use this color to accentuate your eyes.
Close your eye please
adding a glitter shadow in this area is really pretty so we are going to use a subtle one because it's day makeup.
Right here in the the middle.
It's easy, right? So apply it where you can feel your eyeball when you open and close your eyes.
So after that, with one of your clean fingers, blend it outwards and inwards.
So we are building up the shine as well.
we are going to use the same color under your eyes
look up please
After that, we are going to use this basic brown color again
I'm all about layering
Saerom: I used this palette today Joan: Really? Are you doing the same makeup on me?
Well, for the day makeup, I'm going to do less but for the night makeup, it'll be darker than this.
Since you naturally have a lot of long lashes I feel like you don't even have to wear eyeliner and mascara.
Because I don't have a lot of lashes, I always wear lashes
Saerom: But we don't have to do that for you Joan: It's just the bottom lashes though
Saerom: No, your top lashes are full too.
So instead of drawing a line, we are going to use the darkest eye shadow on this palette to define it.
Joan:You can do everything with this palette. Saerom: Right?
You can even use it as a blush.
look down please
So apply it close to the lashes
like the way you would apply eyeliner
Saerom: What eyeliner do you use these days? Joan: Kat Von D
Saerom: Is it a liquid? Joan: The tattoo liner. And have you heard of Catrice?
I like the brush pen liners
I don't use pencil liners
But aren't pencils easier?
I'm actually quite fast with drawing my eyeliner
LOL yeah, very fast
Saerom: So you don't spend a lot of time doing makeup? Joan: No, not at all.
Because I love applying makeup, I purposely like to take my time.
Using an eyeshadow instead of a liner makes it very "My Eyes But Better"
Joan: Oh, this is nice actually. It'll be easier to remove. Saerom: Yes, because no eyeliner!
When I don't want to wear heavy makeup, I don't use a liner because it's so annoying to remove
Yeah, that's why I don't like using mascaras
Yeah, so on lazy days, I just used eye shadows because it'll be easier to remove later.
It's true.
So let's lightly fill in your brows using this "pearl-less" color.
Saerom: We are finishing up with one palette Joan: You are right - eyeshadows, brows, highlighting
We can do the blush with this too
So since we used a similar color to contour your nose, let's connect your brow area using this color
So what eyebrow mascara do you usually use?
Apieu! I like the skinny browcara because it's super easy to control.
Saerom: Do you use brown? Joan: Yes, to match my hair color.
So there are two different palettes from Romand
Saerom: This is more for daily Joan: Yeah, this will be perfect for the girl crush makeup
night makeup... so we can use this one later
I guess
So we started with this for the natural daily makeup and later we can transform to night/chic makeup using this
We can do try something heavier
I mean, she gifted me the entire collection... Thank you!
But I haven't even touched this palette yet because I didn't know how to...
Ahh since they are darker colors it's not what you grab on the daily.
Right, so I will learn today.
I think this will be perfect for the day eye makeup.
For blush, we will again, go for something natural
Instead of going for something dark, something like this coral shade.
Saerom: This is another product I use ALL the time Joan: She says this again, but it seriously looks new
Fine, here is something I really use a lot of.
Joan: Okay, you are right about this one. Saerom: It's so old and all broken...
It doesn't even have the label. Where is it from? The Face Shop?
Yes, it's from The Face Shop, but I don't think they have this anymore. I bought it a long time ago.
This product is a mess right now.
I mixed that with another blush for today's makeup as well.
But today, I'll recommend this to you -- It matches well with your hair color.
I don't like using dark blushes. I get so intimidated and I don't know how to use it correctly (I look like a pikachu)
You have high cheekbones so let's apply a little bit to accentuate the features.
Tip: Don't just apply ruthlessly, gently "tok tok".
It's an easy way to apply and it'll look very natural.
It may not look that different, but it looks a little more lively in person.
Saerom: Let's add some shading to define your face. Joan: This, I do everyday.
Saerom: What product do you use for it? Joan: Recently, I've been using Benefit's Hoola.
And I love this product too!
Too Cool For School!
You guys all know how much I love this product.
This product is quite new as you can see. I usually used the innisfree and Etude House,
I recently purchased this I like it.
It's a very popular product.
Don't just apply randomly, follow the shadows.
So start from outside and bring it inwards.
So... I used to...
Saerom: How did you apply it? Joan: Like this...
But you should carefully follow the shadows for a natural contour. Like this
I'll have to try it next time because I just did it carelessly.
Even around the chin, carefully follow the shadows and bring it inwards.
It doesn't look like you contoured, but it's better than not doing it, right?
Definitely!
Korea is really popular for the natural makeup which accentuates certain features on your face.
And that's exactly what she did today.
And finally, let's move over to lipstick.
Let's go for the My Lips But Better (MLBB) trendy look
This is "All That Jazz" which looks like dried rose?
Saerom: It'll be perfect for the natural look Joan: Yeah, recently, I realized...
You guys all know that I love the 3CE and Stylenanda's collaboration with Lily Maymac
There's a color called "Holy Rose" and it looks very similar.
Oh, really?
Do you have it? I want to see.
But then, the thing is... this is much cheaper! Cheaper than the 3CE!!
Yes, now, they don't sell it anymore.
For matte lipsticks, first pat it on and use your fingers to blend it out to make it look more natural - MLBB.
I personally love using my fingers for matte lipsticks because it's great for the gradient trend
It looks like you didn't wear anything, but it's still better than your natural lip color.
Saerom: Do you like to apply it so that it's dark? Joan: Yes...
For the day makeup, we'll apply it like this, but later let's go dark.
Wow! It looks very My Lips But Better.
Like seriously. It looks so different from when I apply it.
Your application method resulted in a different look.
There are many ways to apply lipsticks, but I feel like it's easier to control and customize when you use your fingers.
So this is my final Day makeup on you -- Perfect on the go!
Day makeup!
Joan: Wow! Thank you! Saerom: What do you think? Wanna see the mirror?
I really like it. I don't wanna switch to the night makeup, but we gotta move on.
I think adding these colors would be perfect
If we use too much purple, it can look puffy
Right or punched in the face
Yeah, a bruise. So we will use this color
Joan: So we won't remove any of this makeup? Saerom: nope, we are going to go over this
Since we already used a lot of gold, I don't think it'll look like you have a black eye by adding these colors.
Saerom: So didn't the color get a bit darker? Joan: Yes, wow!
So let's use this color to add more depth. We are only going to use a little bit because again, we don't want it to look like you have a bruise.
How many shades do you use in a day?
Hmm on a lazy day, 5?
That's little to you?!
Saerom: I can use all of this because I like to layer. Joan: Really?
If you look closely at my eye, I layered a lot of colors.
On a lazy day, I use 2 and if I want to use a lot that day, 4.
I just like to layer. It's fun!
So now, let's reach for the darkest color on this palette
It's really hard to find pigmented eyeshadows in Korea, but this is pretty good.
It's started to look more defined
Yes, very defined.
[Me not knowing a phrase in Korean, but they all translated for me along the way like this. Haha!]
I'm learning Korean as I'm doing this.
Using this dark color, we are going to apply on half of your eyelids.
Joan: Are we going to eyeliner this time? Saerom: Yes, but first we are going to use shadows to make it look more natural.
Joan: Do you do makeup for people often? Saerom: Not often, but when there are events, I do it.
Joan: Don't all your friends ask to do their makeup? Saerom: Yeah, but I don't have that much time anymore.
Joan: I bet Saerom: But I love doing makeup when I have the time.
I love getting my makeup done and doing other people's makeup
But I can't do it on other people's faces -- Just on my face
Saerom: You can try on me Joan: I don't... Saerom: Challenge!
I'll say sorry now
You don't have to do the 3 minute makeup challenge, just challenge yourself to do makeup on others
We should try the three minute challenge though
Saerom: I don't think I'll succeed Joan: 5 minutes? Saerom: I might be able to do that
I'm very slow and I like to wear a lot of makeup so it'll definitely be a challenge.
But that's good too!
Now, we are going to use one of my favorite colors - the wine - under your eyes
Joan: It looks very smokey already Saerom: Look up please
Joan: Did you use the wine color today? Saerom: Yes, I am! Right here. Joan: I can see it!
Saerom: So you don't normally do looks like this? Joan: Yeah // Saerom: You like minimal
So I'm sure my subscribers will be shocked.
So you probably haven't showed this style of makeup, right?
Now, mascara. This one is from Kiss Me. I love it.
Joan: Mascara? Liner? Saerom: Oh, Liner!
This one is popular because it doesn't smudge.
Saerom: So do you not use eyeliner? Joan: No, I use eyeliner!
Now, we will use mascara. This is also from Kiss Me. I like to use this brand for eyeliner and mascara.
Joan: My cousin only uses this one too. Saerom: It's very long lasting and it's hard to remove
Joan: I avoid products like this. Haha! Saerom: You just have to use eye makeup remover
Since it's so long lasting, it results in difficult removing...
I have a question, why is this here?
Don't be scared. After mascara, I use burn this stick to make it warm and will curl the lashes
It doesn't burn. It's warm.
So you can fix the curls this way
Do you know the heated eyelash tool?
No...
How do I explain that
Heat eyelash curler
It's the same effect
This is your way of DIY
You have all this makeup and you can't get yourself one of those heat curlers?
Yeah, I like to use it this way.
My friends use a hairdryer and pat it on their arms to make sure it's not going to burn their eyes and then curl
But I've never seen anything like this
Many Korean artists use this technique
You don't want to burn yourself so make sure it feels warm
I'm just unique and using this, but people use small lighters
Yeah, I was a bit confused by why that was there
This is something I must have when I do my makeup
Joan: So what about when you travel? Saerom: I just buy a lighter
I haven't even looked at the mirror, but this side is definitely curled!
Joan:I don't know how to explain it, but Saerom: You can feel it, right?
Yeah, I feel like I can see the curl here
This'll make sure your curls will stay forward and up!
And of course, gotta light it up again
When you look at it on screen omg lol
Whenever I do my friends' makeup, they tell me that they feel sleepy
I'm not sleepy because you bring out stuff like this
Saerom: You can't feel tired Joan: Right
Now, let's use a blush
When I received all the blushes, I was a bit overwhelmed because there were so many pretty colors.
You can mix the colors or use em on it's own, but I'll be mixing them
I really like the purple blush that you created
Since we used warm colors, I'm going to use a warm color for your cheeks
This is in "Peach Scandal" We don't want something too dark
Even though we contoured early... we'll add more.
Your technique is definitely different!
I do it so roughly compared to you
But if you do that, the previous makeup, might move around...
And the wrinkles...
Yes, it'll be bad for wrinkles... it's just bad for your face.
Saerom: so apply gently Joan: You are right.
I feel like this lipstick matches really well with this makeup
But because we want to go for the Girl Crush, we will switch it up to something darker.
Shall we do "All That Jazz Again?"
Joan:Or can we try something more purple-y? Saerom: Yes, dusty pink!
Wow. This is the most makeup I've ever had on my face.
Saerom: Really? Joan: Yeah, I don't remember having this much makeup
Saerom: But it looks great Joan: You are amazing!
Saerom: What do you think? Joan: I feel great!
So different, right?
Compared to when we first met, you are now transformed.
Yeah, I was so embarrassed because we had lunch with the staff and everyone had makeup on and I was the only one with nothing.
I finally feel good about myself.
Yeah, now we are sitting together with full face of makeup and we will end it here.
So thank you so much for transforming me and teaching me tips on makeup. Since I'm not a pro, this was great!
Saerom: Your face is perfect for applying makeup Joan: Really? Do it for me again!
Saerom: Yes, I want to. Joan: Yes, please!
Maybe if there are comments on any particular makeup looks, we can try it out next time!
Joan: Yes, comment down below. Saerom: We can try idol makeup looks
Please check out her channel and I will be linking where you can buy Romand
This is not a sponsored video, she is not paying me to do this, I just received it and I wanted to learn how to use the products she sent
And now I have a good idea.
So thank you guys so much for watching.
And I'll see you guys in my next video. Bye!
