[MUSIC]

JOYCE: YOU KNOW, TRUST IS A CHOICE.

YOU SAY, "WELL, I WANT TO TRUST, BUT I'M JUST HAVING A HARD TIME

WITH IT."

WELL, SEE, YOU DO TRUST SOMETHING.

I MEAN YOU'RE EITHER TRUSTING YOURSELF, OR YOU'RE TRUSTING THE

WORLD, OR YOU'RE TRUSTING YOUR JOB, OR THE GOVERNMENT, OR YOUR

BANK ACCOUNT, OR SOMEBODY ELSE THAT YOU KNOW.

WE DO TRUST SOMETHING AND THE POINT IS IS WE NEED TO GET

SPIRITUALLY SMART ENOUGH TO KNOW WHAT TO TRUST AND WHAT NOT TO

TRUST, OR WHO TO TRUST AND WHO NOT TO TRUST.

WE MAY GIVE A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TRUST TO PEOPLE, BUT DON'T EVER

GIVE THE TRUST THAT BELONGS TO GOD TO ANOTHER PERSON BECAUSE

ALTHOUGH WE CAN TRUST OTHER PEOPLE TO SOME DEGREE, WE CAN

TRUST OURSELVES TO SOME DEGREE, GOD IS THE ONLY ONE THAT WE CAN

COMPLETELY TRUST, TOTALLY TRUST, AND SAY, "I BELIEVE THAT YOU

WILL ALWAYS TAKE CARE OF ME."

NOW, RIGHT AWAY WHEN I SAY IT, THERE'S PROBABLY SOME PEOPLE

THAT ARE THINKING, "WELL, WAIT A MINUTE, I TRUSTED GOD AND HE

DIDN'T COME THROUGH FOR ME."

WELL, LET'S JUST BACK OFF A LITTLE BIT AND LOOK AT THAT

A LITTLE DIFFERENT.

WERE YOU TRUSTING GOD TO GIVE YOU WHAT YOU WANTED HIM TO GIVE

YOU AND SO, NOW YOU'RE A LITTLE BIT MIFFED BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T

GET WHAT YOU WANTED, OR ARE YOU TRUSTING GOD TO GIVE YOU HIS

VERY BEST FOR YOU IN HIS TIMING IN HIS OWN WAY?

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: WELL, YOU'LL CLAP LOUDER BY THE END OF THE WEEKEND

SO IT'S ALL RIGHT.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: WE'RE GONNA ACTUALLY COVER THAT IN DETAIL IN

ANOTHER MESSAGE.

CHOOSING TO TRUST GOD.

WELL, HOW MANY OF YOU HAVE ANY MEDICINE IN YOUR HOUSE LIKE

OVER-THE-COUNTER STUFF OR PRESCRIPTION MEDICINE?

YOU GOT ANY MEDICINE?

OKAY, YOU PROBABLY GOT SOME BAND-AIDS, MAYBE SOME ANTIBIOTIC

CREAM, YOU KNOW, MAYBE LIKE YOU GOT A PAIN SOMEWHERE, WHATEVER

YOUR CHOICE OF ASPIRIN, OR WHATEVER IT IS, YOU GOT

SOME STUFF.

AND GOD ALSO HAS MEDICINE FOR OUR SOUL, YOU KNOW THAT?

DO YOU KNOW THAT THE DISEASES AND SICKNESSES THAT WE HAVE IN

OUR SOULS, IN OUR MIND, OUR WILL, AND OUR EMOTION, ARE MUCH

WORSE THAN ANY PHYSICAL DISEASE THAT YOU CAN GET?

I TELL YA, I'D RATHER HAVE--I MEAN I'D PREFER NOT TO HAVE

EITHER ONE BUT IF I HAD TO CHOOSE, I WOULD RATHER HAVE A

REALLY BAD HEADACHE FOR A LONG TIME, THAN TO HAVE TO SUFFER

WHAT YOUR SOUL GOES THROUGH WHEN SOMEBODY HAS HURT YOU

EMOTIONALLY REALLY BAD.

COME ON.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: AND SO, IT'S REALLY NOT THE THINGS THAT HAPPEN TO US

THAT DETERMINE THE QUALITY OF OUR LIFE, IT'S HOW WE RESPOND TO

THOSE THINGS AND HOW MUCH OF IT WE TAKE INTO OURSELVES OR HOW

MUCH WE SAY, "WELL, I'M GONNA TRUST GOD WITH IT."

SO, GOD HAS MEDICINES FOR OUR SOUL.

FOR EXAMPLE, IF I SIN AND DO SOMETHING WRONG, I CAN DO WHAT

THE NORMAL THING WOULD BE, WHICH IS TO FEEL GUILTY AND CONDEMNED,

OR I CAN TAKE SOME, "GOD FORGIVES ME,"

AND IT WILL HEAL MY SOUL.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: AMEN?

SO, IF YOU WANT TO, YOU CAN SIT THERE ALL MORNING AND YOU CAN

FEEL GUILTY ABOUT SOMETHING YOU DID OR DID NOT DO THIS MORNING.

SOME OF YOU PROBABLY GOT MAD AT SOMEBODY IN YOUR HOME AND SAID

A BUNCH OF STUFF YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE SAID BEFORE YOU LEFT TO

COME TO THE CHRISTIAN MEETING.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: I DON'T KNOW, I DON'T KNOW, MAYBE SOMEBODY GOT REAL

NOT SO KIND TO SOMEBODY ELSE IN THE PARKING LOT WHO ZIPPED IN

AND TOOK THE PARKING SPACE YOU WERE TRYING TO GET.

I CAN ALMOST GUARANTEE YOU IN A CROWD THIS SIZE THAT HAPPENED

TO SOMEBODY.

AND SO, YOU CAN EITHER BE MAD AT THEM, OR YOU COULD TAKE SOME,

"I'M GONNA FORGIVE YOU."

YOU CAN FEEL REALLY BAD ABOUT YOURSELF BECAUSE OF SOMETHING

THAT YOU DID THIS MORNING THAT YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE DONE AND JUST

RUIN THE WHOLE DAY, OR YOU CAN TAKE A GOOD DOSE OF, "GOD'S

MERCIFUL AND HE FORGIVES ME."

SO, GOD HAS MEDICINES FOR OUR SOUL AND ACTUALLY,

THE WORD OF GOD IS MEDICINE FOR EVERYTHING

THAT AILS YOU INSIDE.

THE WORD OF GOD FIXES OUR MIND, IT HELPS US TURN OUR WILL IN

GOD'S DIRECTION TO WHERE WE'RE DOING WHAT HE WANTS,

INSTEAD OF WHAT WE WANT.

HAS ANYBODY HERE FIGURED OUT YET THAT DOING WHAT YOU WANT YOUR

WAY DOESN'T MAKE YOU HAPPY?

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: HAS ANYBODY FIGURED THAT OUT YET?

OKAY.

YOU KNOW WHAT?

I'VE BEEN TEACHING THE WORD 40 YEARS AND YOU KNOW

WHAT I KNOW NOW?

GOD IS ALWAYS RIGHT.

NO MATTER WHAT I THINK OR HOW I FEEL, GOD IS ALWAYS RIGHT.

AND I MEAN REALLY, THE WHOLE BIBLE IS A MESSAGE ABOUT DO THIS

AND LIVE A QUALITY LIFE THAT'S WORTH LIVING, DO THIS

AND BE MISERABLE.

I DON'T KNOW WHY IT TAKES US A LIFETIME TO GET IT.

WELL, I DO BECAUSE WE HAVE STUBBORNNESS AND SELF-WILL AND,

YOU KNOW, ALL THESE DIFFERENT THINGS.

AND SO, GOD'S WORD, IT REALLY IS MEDICINE FOR OUR SOUL.

AND I MEAN I'VE BEEN AT THIS A LONG TIME AND I'M A SERIOUS

STUDENT OF THE WORD OF GOD AND I CAN TELL YA, I HAVE YET TO FIND

ANYTHING THAT BOTHERED ME THAT I COULDN'T FIND AN ANSWER FOR

IN GOD'S WORD.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: BUT I DO BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A COUPLE OF MEDICINES

THAT WE NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE AND THESE TWO TOGETHER

PRETTY MUCH WILL SOLVE EVERY PROBLEM THAT YOU HAVE ANYTIME.

AND THE FIRST ONE IS TRUST GOD.

AND THE SECOND ONE IS DO GOOD.

LET'S LOOK AT PSALM 37, VERSE 3.

PSALM 37, VERSE 3, "TRUST (LEAN ON, RELY ON, AND BE CONFIDENT)

IN THE LORD AND DO GOOD; SO SHALL YOU DWELL IN THE LAND AND

FEED SURELY ON HIS FAITHFULNESS, AND TRULY YOU SHALL BE FED."

NOW, IN JUST A MINUTE, WE'RE GONNA READ THE FIRST 10 VERSES

OF PSALM 37, AND WE'RE GONNA UNDERSTAND THAT THIS WAS SAID TO

PEOPLE THAT WERE GOING THROUGH VERY DIFFICULT TIMES.

WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN EVERYTHING AROUND YOU SEEMS TO BE

FALLING APART?

WHAT IS OUR RESPONSE TO BE?

TRUST GOD AND DO GOOD, NOT JUST TRUST GOD, NOT JUST DO GOOD.

I MEAN THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT IN THE WORLD THAT ARE DOING GOOD

THINGS, BUT THEY STILL DON'T HAVE THE PACKAGE TOGETHER RIGHT

BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT TRUSTING GOD.

AND THEN, THERE ARE LOTS OF BELIEVERS WHO TRUST GOD, BUT

THEY NEVER DO ANYTHING GOOD.

HELLO.

HOW MANY PEOPLE SAY, "WELL, I'M TRUSTING GOD.

WELL, I'M TRUSTING GOD."

WELL YEAH, BUT WHAT ELSE ARE YOU DOING?

DO YOU KNOW ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL THINGS THAT YOU CAN DO

WHILE YOU'RE HURTING IS TO DO SOMETHING GOOD TO HELP

SOMEBODY ELSE.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: AND THAT'S NOT--YOU DON'T FEEL LIKE THAT.

IT'S LIKE, "I DON'T WANT TO DO THAT."

I MEAN WHEN WE'RE HURTING, WE WANT TO JUST SHRINK, AND

WITHDRAW, AND WE WANT EVERYBODY TO DO SOMETHING FOR US.

BUT REMEMBER, WE'RE GONNA TAKE GOD'S MEDICINE.

NOW, THIS IS A PRESCRIPTION FOR TRUST, AND THE DOCTOR IS JESUS,

AND THE PATIENT IS "WHOSOEVER."

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: AND THE INSTRUCTIONS HERE IS TAKE AS MANY FOR AS LONG

AS YOU NEED IT.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: REFILLS ARE ENDLESS.

YOU CAN TAKE THIS THING BACK AND GET IT REFILLED ANYTIME

YOU WANT TO.

NOW, THERE ARE SOME SIDE EFFECTS THAT YOU NEED TO BE CAREFUL OF

AND HERE THEY ARE.

THE SIDE EFFECTS ARE PEACE, JOY, STABILITY, CONFIDENCE, AND JUST

OVERALL BETTER HEALTH.

SO, YOU CAN JUST GET IN HERE AND SAY, "WOW, I THINK I'M A TAKE ME

ONE OF THOSE."

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: I TELL YA, WE GOT SOME TALENTED PEOPLE IN OUR OFFICE SO

WE GOT ENDLESS REFILLS OF TRUST GOD HERE.

AND THEN HERE AGAIN WE HAVE A PRESCRIPTION FOR DO GOOD,

SAME DOCTOR, DR. JESUS.

PATIENT, "WHOSOEVER."

HOW MANY OF YOU ARE A WHOSOEVER?

ALL RIGHT, TAKE AS MANY FOR AS LONG AS YOU NEED IT, ENDLESS.

THE SIDE EFFECTS OF THIS, OH MY GOSH, EXTREME HAPPINESS

AND REWARDS IN HEAVEN.

MY, MY.

AND YUP, WE GOT DO GOOD PILLS IN HERE, RIGHT THERE.

EVERYBODY SAY, "TRUST GOD AND DO GOOD."

AUDIENCE: TRUST GOD AND DO GOOD.

JOYCE: YOU MAY HEAR ME SAY THAT A COUPLE OF HUNDRED

TIMES BETWEEN NOW AND SATURDAY MORNING WHEN

THE CONFERENCE IS OVER IF YOU GET TO COME TO ALL THE SESSIONS,

AND IF NOT, YOU'LL GET IT ON TV.

BUT I WOULDN'T WAIT TILL THEN BECAUSE I BELIEVE THERE'S

A SPECIAL ANOINTING WHEN WE'RE ALL TOGETHER LIKE THIS.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: AND ALTHOUGH TELEVISION IS GOOD, IT'S NOT

LIKE BEING HERE.

SO, THOSE OF YOU WATCHING BY TV, THE NEXT TIME WE'RE HAVING A

CONFERENCE ANYWHERE WHERE YOU CAN GET TO, WHY DON'T YOU COME

AND BE WITH US?

WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOU.

AMEN.

NOW, I'VE LIVED LONG ENOUGH TO TRY TO BE HAPPY A LOT OF

DIFFERENT WAYS, AND I TRIED THE WHOLE SELFISHNESS THING,

AND I MEAN JUST, I'VE TRIED EVERYTHING, AND I CAN TELL YA

THIS WORKS.

I DON'T CARE WHAT AILS YOU, WHAT YOUR PROBLEM IS, IT CAN BE A

SURPRISE PROBLEM THAT COMES UP OUT OF NOWHERE.

AS WE KNOW, EVERY STORM'S NOT IN THE FORECAST.

IT CAN BE YOU'VE GOT A PLAN AND ALL OF A SUDDEN, GOD COMES ALONG

AND CHANGES YOUR PLAN AND NOW THE FIRST RESPONSE IS UPSET.

THE ANSWER TO EVERY PROBLEM THAT WE HAVE IS TRUST GOD

AND DO GOOD.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: AMEN?

NOW, JUST FOR THE SAKE OF THOSE WATCHING BY TELEVISION,

YOU KNOW, WE HAD A LITTLE PROBLEM HERE LAST NIGHT.

OUR CONFERENCE WAS SUPPOSED TO START ON THURSDAY NIGHT

BUT LO AND BEHOLD, 1 HOUR BEFORE THE CONFERENCE

WAS TO START, THE POWER IN THIS BLOCK WHERE THE ARENA'S

AT WENT OUT, AND IT DID NOT COME BACK ON UNTIL 10 MINUTES

BEFORE THE MEETING WAS SUPPOSED TO BE OVER.

AND SO, WE HAD SEVERAL THOUSAND PEOPLE STANDING OUTSIDE,

THE ONES THAT WERE INSIDE WERE MADE TO GO OUTSIDE.

THEY LOCKED THE PARKING LOT.

THEY PUT A BIG SIGN, A LIGHTED SIGN UP OUT ON THE HIGHWAY THAT

SAID, "THE JOYCE MEYER CONFERENCE IS CANCELED."

NOW, DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT THAT DOES TO ME?

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: I MEAN I JUST WANT TO OH.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: I'M THINKING, WE HAD ONE SESSION CANCELED,

WHY COULDN'T YOU SAY, "COME BACK TOMORROW"?

AND SO, YOU KNOW, NOW LISTEN, HOW MANY KNOW WHEN YOU HAVE

A PROBLEM LIKE THAT, YOUR MIND CAN JUST GO CRAZY?

I'M THINKING, WELL, IF YOU TELL THEM IT'S GONNA BE CANCELED,

THEN NOBODY'S GONNA COME BACK, AND I'M GONNA BE IN

THAT BIG ARENA BY MYSELF AND--

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: AND SO, THE ONLY WAY TO CALM MY SOUL DOWN IS TO TAKE

SOME TRUST.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: AND DO SOME GOOD.

AMEN?

I'M NOT SAYING THAT IT'S ALWAYS EASY, BUT EASY OR NOT, IT IS

THE BEST OPTION BECAUSE IT'S THE ONLY THING THAT'S REALLY

GOING TO WORK.

AND TO BE HONEST, I HAD ALL THESE VISIONS OF OH MY GOSH,

PEOPLE ARE GONNA THINK THE WHOLE THING'S CANCELED.

THEY'RE GONNA GO HOME.

BUT TO BE HONEST, WE HAVE A BETTER CROWD HERE THIS

MORNING ON FRIDAY MORNING THAN WHAT WE NORMALLY WOULD.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: THE THING THAT TICKLES ME ABOUT CHRISTIANS, IF

YOU MAKE THEM MAD, I MEAN WE HAVE THIS GOD-GIVEN ABILITY,

BOY, TO DIG IN.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: AND SAY, "I'M GOING BACK."

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: "AND I'M GONNA KEEP GOING BACK UNTIL I GET WHAT

I CAME FOR."

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: AMEN?

I REALLY LOVE PSALM 37 AND ACTUALLY, I GO AND I READ THIS

PRETTY FREQUENTLY BECAUSE THE CONDITIONS OF OUR WORLD

AND OUR SOCIETY TODAY ARE REALLY PRETTY BAD.

A LOT OF FEAR, A LOT OF NEED, A LOT OF DECEPTION, A LOT OF

PEOPLE TURNING AWAY FROM GOD AND WANTING TO THINK THAT GOD

DOESN'T EXIST.

AND EVEN THE WAY A LOT OF KIDS ARE GROWING UP HAVING TO WATCH

THEIR PARENTS LIVE AND THEY'RE JUST GONNA GO AND REPEAT THAT

SAME THING OVER AND OVER AND OVER.

I TELL YA WHAT, I AM SO THANKFUL FOR WHAT I KNOW.

HOW MANY OF YOU ARE THANKFUL FOR WHAT YOU KNOW?

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: BECAUSE YOU SEE, THE TRUTH, WHEN I SEE SOMETHING

WRONG, I IMMEDIATELY KNOW IT'S WRONG.

YOU KNOW WHY?

BECAUSE I'VE STUDIED THIS FOR 40 YEARS.

I DON'T HAVE TO WONDER IF IT'S WRONG.

I DON'T HAVE TO WONDER, HEY, IS THIS OKAY NOW BECAUSE SOCIETY

SAYS IT'S OKAY?

I SAY, NO, I KNOW.

I KNOW RIGHT FROM WRONG.

WHEN YOU HIDE THE WORD OF GOD IN YOUR HEART, IT KEEPS YOU

FROM SIN.

I SAID, WHEN YOU HIDE THE WORD OF GOD IN YOUR HEART,

IT KEEPS YOU FROM SIN.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: AND I KNOW PEOPLE CAN SAY ALL KINDS OF THINGS, "WELL,

HOW CAN YOU BE SO DUMB AS TO THINK THAT A BOOK LIKE THAT,

YOU KNOW, HAS GOT TOTAL TRUTH?" AND I TELL YA, ONE OF

THE REASONS WHY I KNOW IT'S TRUE 'CAUSE IT WORKS IN MY LIFE

AND ALL THE OTHER STUPID STUFF DON'T.

I KNOW THE MESS I WAS IN WHEN I STARTED STUDYING THE WORD, AND

I'M SURE THAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND IT PERFECTLY AND, YOU KNOW,

THERE MAY EVEN BE, YOU KNOW, IN ALL OF OUR MODERN TRANSLATIONS,

A FEW THINGS THAT AREN'T EXACTLY THE WAY THAT THEY WERE MEANT

TO BE.

BUT YOU KNOW WHAT?

IT'S THE BEST THING WE GOT GOING FOR US.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: AMEN?

AND IT'S INTERESTING BECAUSE THE DEVIL HAS TRIED FOR THOUSANDS

OF YEARS TO GET RID OF THIS BUT HERE THIS BOOK STILL SURVIVES,

AND IT'S STILL THE NUMBER-ONE BEST-SELLING BOOK IN

THE WHOLE WORLD.

COME ON, GIVE GOD PRAISE FOR HIS WORD.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: AND SO, I'M A WORD PERSON AND I DON'T APOLOGIZE

FOR IT.

AND TO BE HONEST, IT REALLY DOESN'T MATTER WHAT I THINK

ABOUT THIS THING, OR THAT THING, OR SOME OTHER THING, GOD HAS

ALREADY SPOKEN AND IT'S WHAT HE SAYS THAT MATTERS.

AMEN.

PSALM 37, VERSE 1, "FRET NOT YOURSELF BECAUSE OF EVILDOERS,"

FRET NOT YOURSELF BECAUSE OF EVERYTHING THAT'S GOING ON IN

THE WORLD TODAY, "NEITHER BE ENVIOUS AGAINST THOSE WHO WORK

UNRIGHTEOUSNESS (THAT WHICH IS NOT UPRIGHT OR IN RIGHT STANDING

WITH GOD]"

DO YOU KNOW THERE ARE TIMES WHEN PEOPLE DO THE WRONG THING AND IT

SEEMS LIKE THEIR BLESSINGS OUTWEIGH THOSE OF THE PEOPLE

THAT ARE DOING THE RIGHT THING?

AMEN?

SOMEBODY ON YOUR JOB CAN DO THE WRONG THING AND GET A PROMOTION,

AND YOU CAN DO THE RIGHT THING AND GET FIRED.

BUT WE CAN'T CAVE INTO THAT.

JUST HANG ON.

"FOR THEY SHALL SOON BE CUT DOWN LIKE THE GRASS."

NOW, BE CAREFUL.

YOU CAN'T GET TOO HAPPY ABOUT THAT.

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: AND I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL.

I'D, LIKE, WANT TO REJOICE WHEN I GET TO THAT PART TOO BUT WE'RE

SUPPOSED TO PRAY FOR OUR ENEMIES.

"TRUST (LEAN, RELY ON, AND BE CONFIDENT) IN THE LORD AND DO

GOOD," WOW, "SO SHALL YOU DWELL IN THE LAND AND FEED SURELY ON

HIS FAITHFULNESS, AND TRULY YOU SHALL BE FED.

DELIGHT YOURSELF ALSO IN THE LORD, AND HE WILL GIVE YOU

THE DESIRES AND SECRET PETITIONS OF YOUR HEART."

WOW, WOW, WOW, WOW, WOW, WOW.

YOU KNOW, INSTEAD OF BEING OUT IN THE WORLD TODAY TRYING TO

MAKE SOMETHING HAPPEN IN YOUR LIFE THAT ONLY GOD CAN MAKE

HAPPEN, YOU'RE HERE, YOU'VE TAKEN THE TIME TO COME AND

DELIGHT YOURSELF IN THE LORD, AND GOD KNOWS THE THINGS THAT

YOU WANT AND NEED.

AND HE PROMISES THAT IF YOU WILL DELIGHT YOURSELF IN HIM,

CONSISTENTLY DELIGHT YOURSELF IN THE LORD AND WANT HIM MORE THAN

YOU WANT ANYTHING HE CAN GIVE YOU, THAT HE WILL ALSO GIVE YOU

THE DESIRES AND THE SECRET PETITIONS OF YOUR HEART,

NOT THE DESIRES OF YOUR FLESH...

BUT THE REAL TRUE HEART DESIRES.

GOD SAYS, "I'LL WORK THAT OUT FOR YOU.

I'LL TAKE CARE OF THAT."

YOU KNOW WHY?

BECAUSE WE SERVE A GOD THAT OPENS DOORS THAT NOBODY CAN SHUT

AND SHUTS DOORS THAT NOBODY CAN OPEN.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: AMEN.

I LOVE THAT, HE'S SOVEREIGN.

HE SHUTS AND NOBODY CAN OPEN.

HE OPENS AND NOBODY CAN SHUT.

WOW.

"COMMIT YOUR WAY TO THE LORD [ROLL AND REPOSE EACH CARE OF

YOUR LOAD ON HIM]; TRUST (LEAN ON, RELY ON, AND BE CONFIDENT)

ALSO IN HIM AND HE WILL BRING IT TO PASS."

MY MOTHER-IN-LAW WHO HAS GONE HOME TO BE WITH THE LORD

SEVERAL YEARS AGO, GAVE ME MY FIRST BIBLE.

IT WAS A LITTLE WHITE KING JAMES BIBLE

AND I DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING.

AND SHE WROTE PSALM 37:5 IN THE FRONT OF IT, WROTE IT OUT,

"COMMIT YOUR WAY UNTO THE LORD, CAST ALL YOUR CARE ON HIM AND HE

WILL BRING IT TO PASS."

AND BOY, HAS THAT BEEN TRUE.

WOW, MY GOSH.

I WISH THAT I COULD--AND SOME OF YOU KNOW BECAUSE YOU'VE MADE

THIS JOURNEY, BUT I WISH THAT I COULD GET PEOPLE WHO DON'T KNOW

TO UNDERSTAND HOW PATHETIC MY LIFE WAS WHEN I WAS HANDED THAT

FIRST BIBLE AND WHAT THE WORD OF GOD,

BELIEVING THE WORD AND FOLLOWING THE WORD, HOW IT HAS CHANGED ME,

AND CHANGED MY LIFE, AND TAKEN MY BROKENNESS AND

TURNED IT INTO SOMETHING THAT CAN ACTUALLY BE OF VALUE IN

OTHER PEOPLE'S LIVES.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUDING]

JOYCE: PLEASE LET ME TELL YOU TODAY, IF YOU WILL TRUST GOD

WITH YOUR LIFE AND LEARN THE WORD, SEE, SO MANY PEOPLE JUST,

THEY THINK THAT ALL THERE IS TO BEING A CHRISTIAN IS PRAY

A SINNER'S PRAYER, GO TO CHURCH SOMETIMES, YOU KNOW, MAYBE PUT A

LITTLE SOMETHING IN THE OFFERING BASKET ONCE IN A WHILE AND SO

NOW EVERYTHING IN MY LIFE SHOULD MAGICALLY CHANGE.

NO, OUR WALK WITH GOD IS A JOURNEY.

WHEN YOU COMMIT YOUR--WHEN YOU ASK CHRIST TO COME INTO YOUR

LIFE, WHETHER YOU KNOW IT OR NOT, AND SOMEBODY SHOULD EXPLAIN

THIS TO YOU, YOU ARE GIVING YOUR LIFE AWAY.

IN HIM WE LIVE, AND MOVE, AND HAVE OUR BEING.

HE IS NOT A SUNDAY MORNING EVENT, HE IS OUR LIFE.

TO LIVE IS CHRIST, TO DIE IS GAIN.

WOW.

"AND HE WILL MAKE YOUR UPRIGHTNESS AND YOUR RIGHT

STANDING WITH GOD GO FORTH AS LIGHT, AND YOUR JUSTICE AND

RIGHT AS [THE SHINING SUN OF]

THE NOONDAY.

BE STILL AND REST IN THE LORD; WAIT FOR HIM AND PATIENTLY LEAN

YOURSELF UPON HIM; FRET NOT YOURSELF."

I WAS PREACHING ON THIS ONE TIME AND A LADY OUT IN THE AUDIENCE

YELLED OUT, "THAT'S ME, SISTER FRET."

[AUDIENCE LAUGHING]

JOYCE: YOU KNOW, LET'S ASK OURSELVES SOME QUESTIONS.

HOW MANY THINGS DO WE FRET OVER, AND WORRY ABOUT, AND GET

CONCERNED ABOUT THAT ARE JUST DOWNRIGHT SILLY?

THEY'RE NOT REALLY GONNA MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE TO ANYBODY.

AND EVEN IMPORTANT THINGS, IF YOU CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT,

DO IT.

BUT IF YOU CAN'T, THEN TRUST GOD.

EPHESIANS 6 SAYS, "DO ALL THE CRISIS DEMANDS."

DO WHAT YOU CAN DO BUT IT SAYS, "DO ALL THE CRISIS

DEMANDS, AND THEN STAND FIRMLY IN YOUR PLACE."

AND OUR PLACE IS, "I'M TRUSTING GOD."

My Houzz: Jenna Fischer's Surprise Renovation for her Sister - Duration: 22:06.

Houzz, Jenna Fischer, Full, Gaurav, 23-03-17

Home means to me... family

Home is the place where I feel most comfortable

It's where I'm with the people I love the most...

...my husband, my kids my sister, my parents

My family are my best friends

I'm Jenna Fischer and this is "My Houzz"

Even though I've lived in Los Angeles for 20 years now...

...when I say I'm going home I mean St. Louis

It's a very cosmopolitan city...

...but it also has those great people, mid-western values...

...and that's what I love about this town

I grew up in a little neighbourhood in Ballwin, Missouri...

...which is one of the suburbs of St. Louis

Any Fischer family event...

...a lot of times it happened at my grandma and grandpa's house

This house was actually designed by my grandfather

My dad grew up in this house with his brother Don

At Christmas time they would always put up a tree...

...and my grandpa would put a train around the tree...

...and we would have like a special grandma-grandpa Christmas

My sister Emily...

...had a particularly special relationship...

...with our grandpa

...and so the house always meant so much to her

So then when my grandma said that she was ready to sell...

...her and her husband bought the house...

...and we were all really excited

...that the house was gonna stay in the family

The house worked okay for them at first...

...because they were just a newly married couple...

...but now, they're a family of four and as each kid came...

...that house started to feel more cramped

When I think of my sister...

...I think of acts of service

Emily is a school teacher

She'll stay after school to tutor kids or...

She works with this great group called Girls on the Run...

...that's just all about...

...trying to enhance the self-esteem of middle school girls

It comes so naturally to her to put herself last

I think that's just the thing about her that I admire so much

And so this is all about really giving to Emily...

...like, giving Emily...

...the type of renovation that will make Emily's life easier...

...and Emily's life more comfortable

When I was growing up...

...and visiting my grandparents in that house...

...they treated the dining room like a formal dining room...

...but that's not how my sister uses it

The dining room has really oversized furniture

The kitchen needs new appliances they're from the '80s

But the biggest thing about the kitchen...

...is how completely closed off it is from the rest of the house...

...and there's just kind of a mismatch aspect...

...to the living room right now

I live in Los Angeles

This house is in St. Louis

It's not going to help me to hire an LA designer

With the help of Houzz...

...I decided to renovate my sister's house in St. Louis

Houzz is a website...

...and it has everything you need...

...to redesign and remodel your house from start to finish

They have designers, you can get ideas...

...you can even buy things...

...all in one place

I was able to research...

...all of these St. Louis designers on Houzz...

...and I could see immediately from the reviews on Jenny's profile...

...that people loved not only the work that she did...

...but they loved working with her...

...and I could see...

...the thought that she put into each renovation

After I reviewed her profile, I picked up the phone...

...I gave her a call and we just clicked right away

Jenny told me she was going to be in Los Angeles...

...so that we could meet in person and talk about some ideas

I'm just so excited to give this to my sister...

...because there's just no-one I know who deserves it more

Let's talk about Emily

There are so many little things about my sister's house that don't work

When Emily and her husband are in the kitchen cooking dinner...

...they're completely separated from their kids

For them to be able to communicate...

...between those two rooms is starting to get kind of essential

So one of the other problems for my sister's house is that...

...their garage leads to a door...

...where they're entering their dining room...

...and so their dining room becomes kind of the dumping ground...

...of the backpacks...

...the kids color do their art projects at that table

My sister is all about family

She decorates with family photos and with the kids' art

We definitely want to incorporate that back into the new design...

...but maybe in a more organized way

I think that's fine

The living room works okay...

...it's being overrun with bins of toys and art supplies...

...that could really use some closed doors

Another thing is the front door

The door knob is in like the middle of the door

All right, door, gone

Okay, good

Here's my big idea

I want to knock down the wall...

...between the living room and the kitchen...

...and also the kitchen and the dining room

I know there's a stairway there...

...so good luck

That is a great idea

And I think actually, we can fit in an island

That would be great

Okay, so let's talk about the TV

So that's the other thing

Right now they have it like in this corner...

...between their fireplace and their living room window

Does she have a preference of where the TV would go?

Well, my sister wants it above the fireplace

I think above the fireplace makes it too high

Houzz has this great feature it's called Design Dilemma

You can post your Design Dilemma and get advice from the community

- So we can put the dilemma out there - Okay

- And let the people decide - Okay

So I went on Houzz and I started my ideabook...

- Yeah. - ...which I sent you

We've been collaborating on Houzz

So an ideabook is a place where you can save...

...all of your favourite photos...

...for all your home improvement projects

- It's completely addictive - Yeah

I'm not going to tell you how many hours...

...I've spent looking at pictures

Well, I know because I get an alert every time you add a picture

Oh, that's right

Emily loves the beach and the ocean...

...and so I kind of want to bring that idea...

...into the house somehow

I like this particular picture...

...in terms of describing that beachy feel

I love it that it looks polished but it doesn't look formal

I sent you this picture...

...and this is another thing...

...I want for the overall feel of their house

That sectional, I love it I want it

Okay

Houzz has this tool called Visual Match...

...that helps you find similar products on Houzz...

...and it makes shopping a whole lot easier

So when you click it...

...right underneath, the sofa comes up...

Are you saying I can have this couch?

- I'm saying you can have this couch - Yes!

I love it

We'll keep shopping we're still shopping

- Okay, we'll keep shopping - Okay, let's buy more things

Okay

So one thing I wanted to bring up is my memories of this house...

...when I was a kid were sitting on the floor...

...and so making even the floor a comfortable place...

...is important to me

My grandpa loved to get on the floor and play with us

We'd play cards, we'd do puzzles...

...unwrap Christmas presents...

...and we still do that

It's sort of a tradition of Emily's house

I found this rug

that I think looks really plush and comfortable

Yeah

Now this is not going to be the exact rug...

...because I still have to work on everything...

...that's going in the room...

...but in terms of texture...

Yeah, like, I would sit on that rug

Okay, that's good

What else can we buy?

Oh, this table...

...doesn't that seem sort of like driftwoody to you?

It does seem driftwoody so let's add that baby to the cart

Okay, good

And one last thing, my dad

Okay

He has to tinker and be doing things all the time...

...and he's got nothing to build right now, and...

What you're telling me is I can use him

I don't think you can't not use him

All right, I can't wait to meet him

Four generations have lived in this house

It's just incredibly special to us so thank you

- I feel honored - Thank you

I want to do this for Emily...

...because she does so much and she asks for so little...

...and...

I always see people do this on shows and I don't understand why

My sister is just my hero

She really is

Today, Jenny is meeting my dad...

...in St. Louis at my sister Emily's house

- Hi - I'm Jenny

And the work is about to begin

I'm so excited to get to be here today

Same here

This is a very awkward door

It is awkward it's hard to open and close

So we're going to fix that

In order to do this project...

...we first have to clear these few rooms out

We have a ton of kids stuff

I think we can get rid of all this stuff

Get rid of it?

No

So I'm a mamma bear

I have little kids too...

...so let's not red tape it...

...let's just find a good storage solution for it

While we're here we need to talk about the furniture

It's too much for this little space

- So what are we going to do? - I think donating it is a good idea

This house was built in the '50s...

...and the scale of furniture was very small at that time...

...and now, everything we have is so oversized

All right, let's go over here and look at the bookcase

All right

So I like the piece of furniture...

...the scale is good for this wall

It doesn't really fit into the color scheme, so...

Well, if you like the basic piece and the color is the only problem...

...I can probably refinish this

Okay, so you could turn it into something different for me?

Tell me what color you want it can be wood grain...

...it can be a color to match your scheme, I can do this

All right, I like that

And then what about the kitchen?

The very small kitchen

So is there anything that we can keep?

We've got to keep this little guy

Okay, I like him

He's lived in that spot forever

He's probably covered with grease

Well, we have a lot to do

- All right, ready to get started? - All right, let's start

So they got everything cleaned out of the house

My dad and Jenny are meeting Randy, the contractor...

...and they're gonna start knocking down some walls

- Hey, Randy - Hey

Good to see you, this is Jim

- Hey, Jim - Hey, good morning

- Good to meet you - Nice to meet you

Jim is about to tear holes...

...in the walls of his father's house

We're getting started tearing all this out today...

...and I thought maybe...

...you would like to strike the first blow

You can't imagine how excited I am

I've always wanted to be that guy

I can only imagine what he's thinking...

...and how he must feel about taking a sledgehammer...

...to something that his dad built

Ready for this?

Yes

This is week four...

...we're halfway there...

...and things are going pretty well

Oh, wow, what a difference

Okay, so we've got cabinets going in...

...we've got some floor color going down...

...we've got a hearth going on that fireplace...

...we've got a mantle going on the fireplace

We've got windows going in...

...we've got appliances showing up

- Wow - We've got lights being hung

It's amazing

It just... it came to life since the last time I saw it

How is my bookcase coming along?

It's coming along just great

I'm making progress

I have a primer coat

I sanded it all down, and I just have to do the finish coat...

...and then it's done, and then we can move it back into the space

I think it's going to work great over there

Well, I'm not worried

I'm sure you've got it taken care of

Hey, Jim, I was just flipping through my ideabook...

...and I realised that we can use the Sketch on my phone

With Sketch, you can pick any of the photos on Houzz...

...or take one of your own...

...then you can draw directly on that photo...

...or add products from the Houzz Shop

It makes it very easy to communicate ideas with my clients

- Isn't that cool? - Pretty amazing

Yeah, that's super cool

Should we send that to Jenna?

It's so hard to visualize the stuff in an empty room

I think she'd love to see that

All right, let's send it to her

I can show it to Jim I can send it to Jenna...

...and they can really get excited about...

...how the space is going to come together...

...and what the furniture pieces are going to look like in here

It's so fun

- Phone call - Okay

It's Jenna

Hello

Hey, Jenna did you like the picture I sent?

I'm opening it right now

Am I allowed to open it now?

Yeah, you can open it and look

So that is the sofa from Houzz in this space

I can't even believe that that is the house like...

So that wall that this sofa is on...

...is actually going to have wallpaper and then we put a new deeper mantel

- Wow - It's gorgeous

That's great, that's great

She's always been bummed that she can't decorate her mantel more...

...over the holidays and stuff

I am so excited

I got the Design Dilemma update from the Houzz community...

...and I can't wait to tell Jenna

Do you remember we asked the Houzz community...

...about where to locate the TV?

Yes, what did they say?

The people of Houzz have decided...

...that we do not need to put the TV over the fireplace...

...and we get to locate the TV in the bookcase over here

Thank you, Houzz people

And this...

I know, isn't it crazy?

Look at all the light that comes from that door...

...and from the kitchen into the whole room

I love it, I think she's gonna love it

Thank you

All right, well, have a good rest of your afternoon

Talk to you later

- Bye - Bye

I'm finally back in St. Louis

I'm about to go over to my sister's house...

...and start putting the final touches on this renovation

Oh, my gosh, it's gorgeous

You like it?

The color is perfect

Yes, yes

Hi

Hey

Oh, my gosh

This wall is gone

This is amazing

It feels like it has that relaxing ocean luxurious feel...

...in like a homey home for kids

I can't get over how real this is

This is like a for real secret makeover...

...that she has no idea

Okay, what do we have to do?

Let's start hanging stuff on the walls

Okay, you can get the other side

Oh, I love it

This is the fun part

I love this part

Okay, bring it in

You just told my dad, "Bring it in"

I've got really good at bossing your dad around

Can you teach me how to do that?

Now bring me the coffee table...

Please

That's better

I have these great pillows that adds lots of color to the room

- Oh, these are gorgeous - Right

- Ready? - Ready

Room's done

Okay, you guys go hide downstairs

- So exciting - Good luck

All right, today is the day...

...I finally get to show my sister the finished space

I hope she's happy and I hope she loves it

I have absolutely no idea what's being done to my house

I'm in a state of disbelief

I'm anxious, I'm nervous I'm excited

I'm every possible emotion I think...

...that I could be feeling all rolled into one

Oh, my gosh

Are you alright?

I think

Okay, come with me

Okay

- So I have to close my eyes? - I'm going to start crying already

No, you can open your eyes

Okay

I love the door

Wow

All right, are you ready to go in?

- Yeah - Close your eyes

All right, ready? Here we go

Don't open them. Okay, step up

Keep them closed still

- It smells new - Does it?

Okay, now keep walking

Like it's, it doesn't have...

...that grandma and grandpa's house's smell

Oh, well, that's good because this is your house now

Okay, open your eyes

Oh, my God

Doesn't even look like my house

Oh, my God I love it

Can you believe it's your house?

Thank you so much

Oh, my God I don't believe it

This is your house, Emily

Look how they hung up the kids' artwork

Yeah, I love that photo of me and Eddie

It feels so homey

I like the openness of it

I think it's just gonna make life so much easier

You guys love being a family so we put that in here

The bookshelf behind you this is your bookshelf, Emily

- Is it really? - Dad refinished it and painted this

The fireplace, we painted the brick

You have a deeper mantel now

And your television cabinet

I have lights in my ceiling

You have lights in your ceiling

- Isn't it just so much brighter - It is

I mean like we had the two mismatched floor lamps

Yeah

Look at your kitchen

Oh, my God

This is my house?

Yeah, this is your house now

Did you ever think you'd have a kitchen island?

No

I think the biggest difference...

...is just how these walls are down...

...and how when you're standing in the kitchen...

...you're going to be able to see the kids wherever they are now

Wow

- Your magic chef - That was grandpa

Parts of them are still in the house

It felt so good that she loved it

It seemed like everywhere she looked...

...she was getting more excited or more moved

I love the light, I love the green

- Pop of color - I love it

- I love this new table - And it fits

One of the reasons it fits in the room...

...is you had like the double hutch and buffet...

...now you just have this one big cabinet from Houzz

And let me show you one of my favourite things for you, storage

I love that

All of these...

Look in here

There's a charging station art supplies

Oh, my gosh

And then these too, games, toys, all over here

Oh, my gosh

Oh, it's gorgeous

It's just the perfect space for a family with young children...

...and it's very practical

Well, I didn't do this by myself

In fact, the people who did most of the work are here

Here's Dad who provided all the free labor

Thank you, Dad

- And Jenny... - You're welcome, you're welcome

- How do you like it? - ...the brains behind the operation

Hi

Jenny and my sister did a fantastic job

All right, so Dwight and the kids are going to be here any minute...

...so let's for them but let's relax

- Okay, let's sit here, behind - Okay

All right, you want to sit on your couch?

I do

I think the big hit was the couch

Do I have to let my kids in this space?

But the whole space is a home run

Oh, they're here

They're here

Hi, guys

Why do we have a new door?

Oh, my God

What do you think, guys?

Wow, wow

- Holy moly - A pretty new house

What's that?

I absolutely love it

Oh, my gosh

This house looks awesome

It looks absolutely nothing like the home that I left two months ago

Oh, I love the table

I mean, check out the table

So this is all ours?

Yeah

You've got to be kidding me

Without Jenna this wouldn't have happened

This is the biggest gift I've ever had in my life

It's absolutely awesome...

...and I couldn't have asked for a better sister-in-law

This is pretty crazy

I can't believe this is happening

- Mamma - Yeah

I'm just going to probably fall asleep on this

The cool thing about the couch is that this is a sofa-sleeper

This is sweet

- A book "E" - It's a book "E"

That's right

I can truly say that Jenna...

...is probably one of the most important people in my life

This is just beautiful

If I needed advice about something I go to my sister

We just have that kind of relationship...

...where I know that she will be there for me any time I need her

Are you responsible for all this?

I am, yes

And I bring party favors

- Oh, sweet - Hi

- Nanny - Jenna

Doesn't that look so good?

Oh, it does

- This is beautiful - Oh, my gosh

I know

Doesn't it look so good?

Oh, man

Look what we did we did what we said

Everyone's in the kitchen

- I know, right? - Except now everybody fits

Okay, so I just want to make a little toast

It's been a two-month renovation

You guys have all been living together...

...and you've been putting in a ton of time...

...and you've been putting in a lot of labor...

...but I just want to say thank you

It looks awesome, Jenny and cheers to your new home

Congratulations

- Cheers - Cheers

The future is going to be much easier for Emily now

I love thinking about her family doing movie night...

...cuddled up on the couch with a fire in their new fireplace

One, two, three, oh

This renovation would not have been possible...

...without the technology of Houzz

Thank you for helping me find a great designer, a great contractor...

...and all kinds of amazing products

So how are you going to like, watch Cardinals games from the kitchen?

- Oh, that's going to be awesome - Yeah

They're doing okay, right?

I think we need to pick up another bat

So it still hasn't sunk in that this is my house

Well, since we stole your football team…

...we'll go ahead and give you that batter

Oh, she went there, huh?

Oh, man

The Quest for Essences Episode 5 – Ylang Ylang in Nosy Be - Duration: 3:03.

The ylang flower is interesting because it has some similarities with jasmine,

but with a tropical aspect,

a hint of salt and a seaside influence,

while at the same time being fruity,

and this is interesting for our creations.

The ylang is one of the rare flowers that can be turned into an essence,

maybe because it is not a very colorful flower,

between yellow and green,

and it needs to stand out

to produce a powerful scent.

The culture is interesting because the trees can

grow to thirty meters high.

So to be able to harvest the flowers easily,

the branches are curved,

so that when one looks at an ylang ylang field,

one sees trees that looks like giants bonzais.

The ylang can be found almost everywhere in the Indian ocean,

but the reason why I get the ylang from Nosy Be island

is because its full traceability is guaranteed.

And this is important for us, because it is a matter of ethics,

but it also allows us to have the same quality from one year to another.

Once the harvest is completed, the flowers are rapidly transformed,

because with the heat, but also the light,

they deteriorate very quickly.

They are distilled, and turned into an essence.

This essence leaves Nosy Be untreated

and is reworked in Grasse,

where it is distilled again, divided, and reconstructed,

accentuating some aspects that are more interesting for me,

and particularly the salty note.

I wanted to have this touch in this quality,

and this is the Grasse know-how.

UFO Sighting from a plane near Charlotte, NC.

Witness: We were on a Frontier Airplane coming from Philadelphia, PA and preparing to land

in Charlotte, NC close to noon on April 7, 2017.

Our 7 year old son was sitting by the window.

He told us to look out the window because he sees a spaceship in the sky.

We took 3 pictures of the object in the sky.

One picture shows 2 objects.

If you zoom in on the pictures, it does look like it could be something.

Our son seemed so sure that it was a spaceship.

Here is some more paper, guys.

- Thanks, Alan. - You're welcome.

Just a little more green.

- That's nice. - Thank you.

Oh, hey! Welcome to Sesame Street.

- Oh, hi! - We are having some fun with finger paints.

Hi, guys. Hi, Elmo.

- Hi, Abby. - Elmo and Abby: Hi, Big Bird.

- Hi. - Oh, who's this?

Oh, this is our friend Julia.

Oh. Hi, Julia.

I'm Big Bird. Nice to meet you.

Oh. Julia?

Julia's just concentrating on her painting right now.

You guys, you're all doing a great job.

- Ah! Thank you, Alan. - Thank you.

- You're welcome. - Boy, Elmo loves finger painting.

Yeah, me, too.

I love the way the paint squishes in my fingers.

- Ugh. - Oh, you're right.

I'm sorry, Julia.

I know you don't like the way it feels.

And that's why a paintbrush works for you.

There's lots of ways to paint.

- Mm-hmm. - Okay, and there.

- Elmo's all done. - Yep. So am I.

Oh, can I see what you all painted?

- Oh, sure, Big Bird. - Wait, wait, wait, you guys.

Here. Wipe your hands off first.

And I will show him. Take a look.

Big Bird: Whoa. Those are both really great.

Aw, thank you, Big Bird.

May I see your painting, Julia?

Um, Julia?

Sometimes it takes Julia a while to answer.

It helps to ask again.

- Julia? - Hmm?

Can Big Bird see your painting?

See your painting? Yes.

Okay.

Oh, all right. Take a look at this, everybody.

Oh! Wow! A flying bunny? Cool! ( laughs )

I don't think Julia likes me very much.

Oh, no, you two are just meeting for the first time.

Oh. So, she's shy.

Oh, I get that. I can feel shy sometimes, too.

Well, with Julia it's not just that.

You see, she has autism.

She likes it when people know that.

Autism? Wh-what's autism?

Well, for Julia, it means that

she might not answer you right away.

Yeah. Julia doesn't say a lot.

- Mm-hmm. - That's right.

And she may not do what you expect,

Oh, okay. We can all play together.

Uh, uh, how about tag?

- Ah! - ( Julia laughs )

Um, uh, wait. Wh-what's Julia doing?

Well, it looks like she's playing tag while jumping.

I've never seen tag played like that.

Well, Julia does do some things a little differently.

Oh, because of her autism?

Sometimes people with autism

may do things that might seem confusing to you.

Oh, like, like when she flaps her hands?

Yep. That's just something she does when she's excited.

But you know what? Julia also does some things that you might want to try.

HBO invites you behind the scenes

to meet a new friend on Sesame Street.

(GIGGLES) Oh, hi!

Oh, this is Elmo's friend, Julia.

CHRISTINE FERRARO: Julia is a little girl.

She's got autism.

She likes people to know that she's autistic.

Like many kids with autism,

she's got her own way of doing things.

She may not do what you expect.

She does things just a little differently.

-In a... Julia sort of way. -(CHUCKLES)

Julia has become a representative

of a very large initiative that we have that's called

"See Amazing in All Children."

As we saw the numbers of children diagnosed with autism,

we knew that was a place where Sesame Street

could make a difference.

I kinda said, "Why don't we put her in the show?"

-Well, who's this? -Oh, this is our friend, Julia!

Louis Mitchell designed and drew Julia.

I had done some volunteer work at a school with children

on the autism spectrum, and there was this young girl

that I bonded with so much so

it gave me everything I needed for Julia.

I just start to sketch and do a little thinking about

not so much what the little girl looked like

but what she felt like, how she made me feel.

BROWN JOHNSON: The audition process was really interesting

because we specifically asked the women who were trying out

to have had an experience with a person on the spectrum.

FERRARO: Stacey Gordon, our puppeteer,

has a son of her own who is on the spectrum.

STACEY GORDON: When we first saw Julia, my husband was like,

"Honey, she kinda looks like you."

And I looked to him and I was like,

"I'm basically Julia." (LAUGHS)

(LAUGHS)

GORDON: Being allowed to represent an entire community

and the importance of that... It's an honor.

We like to believe that even if someone is different from you,

you can still be friends.

-We can all be friends! -Yeah!

FERRARO: We've introduced Julia as a character with autism

but she's not just "Julia the kid with autism."

She's Julia!

LOUIS MITCHELL: This is another person who's part of the neighborhood.

Everyone's welcome.

JOHNSON: Being able to see yourself in the stories

that you love is incredibly important.

My son gets to see someone like him on Sesame Street.

And his friends get to see someone like him

on Sesame Street, and get to see

that they all are doing the exact same things,

just... he and Julia and other kids like them

might do those things a little bit differently.
