Very long tunnel!
Amazing sound.
Not very subtle
but that fits me perfectly.
Imagine that you can pick one car for the rest of your life, just one.
So not like, just fill the garage up with other cars
because in that fantasy world I have quite a list as well.
Just one car.
A Ferrari? Great, but only fits two people.
A Porsche 911 fits two kids with a little squeezing
until they grow larger.
And maybe you're not thinking about a Mercedes-Benz
when choosing the one car that you will be spending the rest of your life with.

And this E63 S
has everything really.
Are there spotters in that Caddy?
So if you want to be spotted by people in a VW Caddy, buy a Mercedes E63 S!
Mercedes AMG E63 S, I have to say it completely.
If you want that, pick this!
Overpass, let's enjoy this as well.
The previous E63 was an exceptional car as well
but when I think about cars in this category
then first I think about the BMW M5 and the Audi RS6
the main competitors.
The E63 kind of fades into the background.
Even though Mercedes does everything right when making this car into an amazingly complete package.
Let's list some of the highlights.
We know the engine from the C63 and the AMG GT.
It's a 4-litre with several updates.
The engine is built up in a hot V
which means that the turbo's are built into the V in the V8.

Another thing they did at Mercedes
is that they gave cylinder 1 and 4 their own separate exhaust channels
that are send to the turbo's.
2 and 3 of the cylinder bank have their own channels.
Which means that there is less pressure in the exhaust system
which means that the turbo's spool up better.
This makes them able to respond more instantly
and you really feel that in this car.
Especially in Sport-mode.
Such a sharp machine.
It has a 9-speed gearbox
And you might think, those aren't always that good.
I have driven quite a few cars with 8-speed transmissions
and it now drives in 9, but when I hit the throttle
it just goes back to 3 and very fast as well!
Of course, there is a very small delay.
Oh my god this thing just shoots off.
Here I am.
It seems like this is very full and it doesn't look that big.
I can push a few things back a little.
But this boot is just enormous.
Another thing
as a dad, I wanted to say young dad, but I am not that young anymore.
There is plenty of space.
This seat is in my position and you can really sit great here.
Ideal car.
This is the Edition 1.
The previous versions of the Mercedes and BMW performance models
were quite subtle, like the E34 M5.
They had some bigger exhausts.
I just said exhausts while doing this, great for the blooper tape.
They had different rims, so you could see it
but this is quite in your face.
Look at me, I'm really fast.
Makes a really insane noise as well.
On the Edition 1, you get this matte exterior
with striping on the side, I'm starting to get used to this.

Striping, great.
On the inside there are these yellow elements
and the yellow piping.
It's an acquired taste.
It's still possible to order the Edition 1 version up to a year after the launch
it's no limited edition.
This is a car that isn't that subtle anymore.
It's a shame that the understated image is gone, in that case you are better off ordering an E500.
Funny thing, in the press release
there is often a mention of the coupe style roof line, which I always think is funny.
This car doesn't have that
at least, it wasn't mentioned in the press release.

They did mention the coupe like bonnet!
This got me thinking, Mercedes coupes always have the same type of bonnet
but to make notion of this in the press release because this one has sort of a same bonnet.
I don't understand this, because it is just a sedan.
That is also available as a station.
Which is called Estate by Mercedes.
Just to make it a little harder.
Everyone a coupe!
It is available in two versions, the S as in super great
tbe one you want.
And the more regular
The most important differences
between the S and the non-S, 571 HP and 750 Nm torque
versus 612HP on the S.
Which is just above the magical line.
It has 850 Nm torque
and some exterior differences
but none are really important.
Another limited-slip differential
which is electronically controlled in the S, and a normal one in the E63.
The S has 4Matic-plus
which includes a drift mode.
This works really well.
So well in fact, that I figured Mercedes might want to loan this car to other people as well
so maybe I should stop.
It really is a party when buying this car
because that means you can attend drift days
because it just switches to a complete rear wheel drive car.
The front-wheel drive just turns off.
Including the ESP, so you should be able to steer a little.
Because it turns into a rear wheel drive car with 612 HP that just wants to go.
But I think it's doable.
And, another tunnel!
In any other situation it is just a 4-wheel drive car
with complete variable power distribution between front and back.
And you really notice.
It is more oriented to the back, especially in sport-mode
but it doesn't attack your throat immediately.
Like a M5 for example.
And the launch control..
It seems to dig in,
it's a very strange feeling.
The car seems to dive a little
even though it is amazingly stiff.
The 0-100 sprint takes 3,4 seconds.
Top-speed is, according to German tradition, limited to 250 km/h
on both versions.
You hit the limiter every time when you go to the supermarket
in between two speed bumps.
But when you get the AMG drive package
the limiter moves up to 300 km/h.
We didn't get to the limiter, we had to break for the zebra-crossing at that speed bump.
Just to get back to the question
one car for the rest of your life.
This one comes insanely close.
You can't drift a RS6
Maybe they'll come with such a mode as well
but Audi's are usually 4-wheel drive originally.
A 4-wheel drive car with 600HP
so that's quite a party as well.
And here comes another tunnel!
The current M5
does drift but it's doubtful that you will arrive at the drift-circuit
because if it rains on the way there you will die three times because you flipped your car
because the car can't put it's power on the road.
So this really is an exceptionally great car
truly exceptional.
The sound is great
because AMG are just masters in that area.
If you think of buying this car, because this is the only car for the rest of your life
you'll need to smash a little piggy bank.
The non-S that isn't really relevant is 152.000 euros.
The S is 10.043 euro more expensive at 162,195 euro.
From the top of my head.
Let's peek.
It's 176.743 euro.
I'm not really sure except for the small differences why you should buy an Edition 1.
But if you like the striping
and yellow piping
which is obviously a great colour.
Then you should buy the Edition 1.
I would
like to buy this in firetruck red or something.
It is very noticeable.
So why not make it really special.
This car is perfect.
Epic.
And you may wonder, is there nothing to complain about?
Something that really bothers Martijn and which is starting to bother me as well
is the S, which is positioned like it has fallen over
and it is a little lower and a little smaller than the other letters.
But then there is this little line underneath.
I'm convinced however, that an entire committee has been thinking about how this should look.
So it is thought through and in the meanwhile we think it is really ugly!
Such a shame!
