Waching daily Apr 12 2017

Many people try to turn their hobby into a business bringing profit, and get money for what they are now doing for free for your own pleasure. Not always for their success along the way. But John Haynes was able to turn his passion for cars at £ 30 million ($50 mln), founding the publishing house, printing books for motorists. In 1956 he sold his first 48-page booklet with his own paintings and drawings, worth 25 pence. It was a manual modification of the car. In 1974 the publishing house already has 50 employees, printing 60 different titles, the sales amount of 2.5 million copies. Today the company employs 290 employees, sales amount to 28 million pounds ($47 million) per year with a profit of 6 million pounds (10 million dollars). It all started when at the age of 15 while still a schoolboy, John redid his car "an Austin 7 Saloon," which he bought for £ 15, and sporty "Austin 7 Special". When he decided to sell and placed an ad in the magazine "Motorsport", he received 150 responses. Encouraged by this interest in his offspring, he decided to describe their experiences in a small booklet which he had printed in an edition of 250 copies. Instead of three months, as he expected, the brochure sold out in 10 days. It was a good start. Together with his brother John to establish Modern enterprise distribyutors and in the first year the company makes a profit of 843 pounds. This is followed by service in the Royal Air Force based in Germany. Together with his local friend John continues to print the manuals machines, simultaneously saving on the cost of printing outside great Britain. He's bringing home books, scoring all the possible space inside the machine. 1500 copies sold in just three months. In 1960, he was mobilized and returned home. Your serious publishing business he started, printing only 4 names of books about four models of machines. In 1964, he turns three houses near the place where his parents live, to the printer. Since then, the business of John Haynes is developing rapidly. Today, his publishing house prints the manuals for almost every car or motorcycle ever descended from the conveyor of the plant. In 1974, the publishing house of John beginning to conquer the market of America, started to sell in Los Angeles. Now its benefits dominate the U.S. market. What is the secret of success by John Haynes? Of course, first of all it was a brilliant idea. Books by the publishers is designed almost everyone, regardless of level of knowledge of the mechanics of the car. Any car owner can make repairs on their own by following very simple and detailed instructions explaining step by step this process, accompanied by drawings or photographs. As John has achieved this simplicity? He has taken each car apart and photographing every stage of their work, then give a description of what he was doing. Again and again he repeated what he did at 15, available explaining a complex process in his books. He pushed out of the market one by one all the competitors, because the product is more consistent with the requirements of buyers, rather than textbooks written by specialists incomprehensible for the average car owner's language. The second important component - cost of textbooks - 11 pounds 99 pence.

Exile Guayla // Episode 02 DANCE (Watch it with subtitles) - Duration: 7:57.

Guayla normally is...

Guayla music is made for dancing

Everybody needs something from their home country.

Like a culture.

Dancing is my culture and my heritage.

I don't want to miss it.

Sometimes when I hear…

my favourite music or when the music has the right beat...

it is for me like…

How should I say this.

I mean I don't drink alcohol but I can still dance through the night with the right music.

But at the next morning I look like a wreck as well.

The older generation dances after the rules of Kuda.

(in a circle)

Our Generation doesn't really have a style, everyone has their own moves.

I don't know the exact purpose of the shoulder move.

I taught it myself, nobody has showed me how to dance really.

But the majority is doing it like this because it has always been like this.

It is just normal for me.

Back in Eritrea I visited a lot of Guaylas and was a dancer as well sometimes.

Here in Switzerland I just go out sometimes.

There would be a party every weekend but I am not joining them.

If an Eritrean singer who I admire, tours through Europe, I have to see him.

Better than this is just when you can go with your friends.

Then I can enjoy my time and dance.

If you want, you can go to a lot of Swiss parties.

But at Eritrean parties you can let out your homesickness.

That is the reason why we go to Eritrean parties.

I have been in Switzerland for eight years and two months.

Before I left Eritrea I was a DJ.

Here in Switzerland I am working on a construction site.

At the weekend, or when there is a special public holiday,

I am organising DJs and singer for parties as a promoter.

Normally once a month.

Or if there is a special occasion like independence day.

I would say, that Switzerland has the most parties compared to other European countries.

It doesn't matter if you host a party every weekend.

You are not losing any visitors.

Everybody knows each other and Switzerland is small.

You can call your friends, meet them and have a good time.

It doesn't matter if you're in Bern, the other one in St.Gallen, Lausanne or Lucerne.

It is how it is.

Your friends with whom you grew up are living scattered over Switzerland or Europe.

I mostly go to see my friends.

But on the other side you go to live your culture

so that you don't forget it completely.

I see a lot of young men

who are here since 10 years and didn't manage to find a job.

This is due to a language barrier

or sometimes because they are not interested in integrating.

They are hanging around on their beds the whole day.

And in the evening they want to go out.

They are dancing and drinking. This is their daily routine.

They can't do anything else.

It is a fact, not everyone is drinking water.

Because of the alcohol we get fights.

Nobody wants this.

When we go out, it is almost normal to have a fight at the end.

Always.

There are some Swiss at the parties. I've seen some.

There are some who like it but it doesn't really fit.

If I go to Swiss parties it doesn't fit either.

It doesn't attracts me.

It isn't my culture.

And it is exhausting for them as well.

Yes, I would like it if Swiss would come to our parties.

But I think the other culture, mostly the music and the style of dance is the main reason.

Tigrinya songs are a lot longer.

That bores a lot of people I think.

But I would really like it if Swiss would come to our parties.

They only should know the culture and music in advance.

Then they have as much fun as we have.

Project BMW M3 pt.6 - What work needs doing? | Road & Race S03E07 - Duration: 6:04.

This time on road and race I find out what condition my M3 is in by having a detailed

look though it's service history In the previous episodes I showed my research

into finding a good second hand M3, going to buy it and then my initial thoughts giving

it a quick blast around the track.

In this show I'll be going through the car's service history so that I know what has been

done and when so I'll be able to decide what, if anything, needs doing.

So, first up I like to go through all the service history and determine the actual state

of the car.

I start with the BMW service book.

It's pretty basic but will tell you how often the engine oil was changed as a well

as spark plugs and the air filters.

So summarising this down you can see the engine oil was changed every 12 to 15,000 miles or

so and the last change was 7000 miles ago.

BMW don't publish a recommended oil change interval and instead use something they call

"Condition Based Servicing".

This is how they describe it: "The intelligent maintenance system CBS

permanently monitors oil levels and the degree of wear and tear on individual components.

It analyses this data and tells you when a service is next due."

So the car knows when the oil is bad but me being me I need to know more information on

this.

I manged to find a technical document from BMW which goes into a bit more detail:

"The changed electrical material properties of the engine oil changes the capacitance

of the capacitor."

So, as I understand it a capacitor in the engine measures the electrical conductivity

of the oil and from this can determine wear.

I understand why BMW would do this- they want to stretch out the change interval as far

as possible.

Saying that I do my own oil changes which means it's not too expensive and relatively

quick to do so I'll probably just stick to my habit of changing oil every 6,000 miles.

Maybe overkill but gives me piece of mind.

Also will probably help with one of the common faults I discovered when doing my research

which is the potential excessive wear on rod bearings.

Whilst talking about CBS there is sensor to check when the cabin filter needs changing

and sensors to check when then brake pads are low.

In my previous BMW I had a brake pad wear down to the metal without the CBS knowing

so I still check my brake pads manually.

You can do a quick check without even taking the wheels off, I've done a video on it

in the past.

CBS will also tell you when brake fluid and spark plugs should be changed but there are

no sensors, it just uses a set time interval.

I'm guessing 2 and 3 years respectively.

So, back to the remaining items; the cabin filter, air filter and spark plugs were changed

about 4 months and 7000 miles ago so they are currently fine.

Moving on, we have the last three years of receipts now to go through.

The previous owner was quite fastidious about this so everything was in chronological order

already for me to go through.

So here's the excel sheet I made after going though it all and here it is summarised so

that it's easier to read:

BMW state Differential and Transmission oils they should be changed every 3rd oil change

so at about 45,000 miles.

They were both changed at 55,004 miles so fine for now.

The EDC suspension control unit, DSC traction control pump and battery were all replaced

within the last year.

Also the driver's side seatbelt handover arm, so that's what they al it!, that was

replaced recently too.

Two of the eight ignition coils have been replaced; coil 5 at 41,000 miles and coil

6 at 70,000 miles.

Also front discs replaced 7000 miles ago.

Lastly onto a common fault I researched in part 3 of this series, the drivers side throttle

actuator was replaced at 41,000 miles.

Speaking with the previous owner he imagines the other one had to have been done at some

stage but there is no paperwork to back it up.

So this brings us onto my plan of action:

As I've no idea when power steering fluid, coolant and both engine belts were changed

I'll do them first.

Then as it's ben about 7000 miles I'll do an oil and filter change.

I'll send a sample of the oil off for analysis to check on rod bearing wear.

As far as I can tell the fuel filter is integrated into the fuel level sender so requires draining

the tank to replace.

Also BMW rate this as a lifetime part so I'll need to do some more research to see if this

actually needs changing.

As for the Ignition coils, obviously it's best to be proactive and replace them all

now but they cost £54 each and even if I just replace 6 I'd be looking at a cost

over £300.

I think I'll do some more research on when people recommend they be changed and if in

the meantime one fails I'll replace them all.

So that leaves me with the throttle actuators.

It's £470 to have both rebuilt with harder wearing parts so I think I'll wait and when

the next one fails have both rebuilt.

Lastly I'm going to do a full braking system inspection so will check out the master cylinder

and booster for rust and leaks and check over all the brake hard lines for rust or damage.

I'll also measure the brake discs to determine their level of wear.

Then as all the brake hoses are 10 years old I'll replace them with steel braided ones

and as ill be tracking the car fit higher grade race pads.

So now I have my plan of things to do I'll order the parts I need.

Whilst I wait for those to arrive it's time get on with something that's a must for

me when I get a new car…so join me next time when I give my M3 a through clean inside

and out!

How to Read Auras – What is the Meaning of Each Color - Duration: 18:22.

How to Read Auras What is the Meaning of Each Color?

Learn all about auras, how to read auras, how to see your aura, aura colors and what

each aura color means.

All living things that need oxygen to survive have an aura.

They generate a large magnetic energy field that can be sensed, felt and even seen around

the physical body.

We all can tell when someone doesnt feel good to us, like they are full of anger or

if they really live in their heart and feel deeply.

You do not need to be psychic to feel/read an aura.

If a person walks past, very close to you, they may unintentionally steal some of your

energy.

If someone suddenly reaches out and grabs your arm, they are interrupting the flow of

energy around your body.

An example of this might be a time when you were talking to someone and you thought they

were standing to close to you.

You may have even thought to yourself, Theyre in my space, and then you backed away.

Even this slight intrusion into your aura or space can interrupt your personal

flow of energy and you may feel like you have been slimed.

An aura is usually 3 feet from your physical body, however an incest or rape survivor has

an aura about 50 feet around them, which means in a movie theater or a bus/train you sit

in their stuff!!!

I can clean this for you.

Auras are commonly associated with people.

Sometimes we even use them to describe people: He has an aura about him, or She

just has a glow about her.

But in fact all living things generate this Explanations of the color in any aurafield

All About Koalas for Kids: Koalas for Children - FreeSchool - Duration: 3:49.

You're watching FreeSchool!

Let's learn about koalas!

Although you may have heard them called koala 'bears,' koalas are not bears at all!

Like bears, koalas are mammals, which means they are warm-blooded, have fur, and feed

their babies milk.

Unlike bears, koalas are a special kind of mammal called 'marsupials.'

Marsupials have pouches to carry their babies in for a few months after they are born.

Kangaroos are probably the most famous marsupials, but koalas have pouches too!

Baby koalas are called joeys.

When they are born, they are only about the size of a jellybean.

They have no fur and their eyes and ears are closed.

Koala joeys will stay in their mothers' pouches for about six months.

Once a baby koala comes out of the pouch, it will hang onto its mother's back or stomach

and stay with her for another six months.

Full grown koalas reach lengths of 24 to 33 inches or 60 to 85 cm, and weights of up to

33 lbs or 15 kg, although the females are usually much smaller.

Koalas are native to eastern Australia, where the eucalyptus forests they call their home

grow.

They are herbivores and eat almost exclusively eucalyptus leaves.

Although there are about 600 types of eucalyptus trees in Australia, koalas will only eat about

120 of them, and an individual koala will only eat leaves from about 4 to 6 types.

Eucalyptus trees are both food and a home for koalas.

Koalas have short, curved claws, ideal for climbing trees, and two thumbs on their front

paws that help them to grip small branches.

They rarely even come to the ground to drink: the name 'koala' is from an Aboriginal word

meaning 'no drink,' because koalas get most of their water from the leaves they eat.

Koalas spend almost all of their time in the treetops, eating, or more likely, sleeping.

Koalas usually sleep between 18 and 22 hours a day - it takes a lot of energy to digest

eucalyptus leaves.

Eucalyptus leaves are poisonous to most animals, but koalas have an extra-long digestive system

that allows them to break down the leaves without being hurt by the poison.

Although koalas are not currently endangered, they are in trouble.

Once they were hunted in large numbers for their soft fur.

Although they are protected now, they need plenty of eucalyptus trees - about 100 trees

per koala - to have enough food to eat.

As the forests they live in are cut down by humans, koalas have fewer and fewer places

to live.

If we want to make sure that koalas stay healthy and happy, we need to protect their habitats

so they have enough trees to call home.

I hope you enjoyed learning about koalas today.

Goodbye till next time!

THEY LOVE IT WHEN YOU DO THIS - Duration: 10:07.

299,939… 40 we may hit this today

[Music]

So…

I suppose it's fairly ridiculous that I have

been vlogging in the car so much lately

but see here's the deal like I'm trying

to get out of the studio I'm trying to

make these videos more dynamic and

engaging I've just got limited things

that I do so you're gonna have to bear

with it today I mean I guess it's kind

of ridiculous to have a 4k set up for

vlogging in a Jeep but I've been

thinking about you know I don't know

I've got this light maybe I could mount

that up here some velcro have a nice key

light I don't know what do you think?

earlier in this video I mentioned that

this channel will most likely hit

300,000 subscribers today which is

amazing the most amazing thing about

that is what that number means and that

means you guys that means 300,000 people

during the course that I've had this

channel have enjoyed what I made enough

to want to subscribe to it you guys this

is for you not me and so I just want to

say thanks it really is amazing and I'm

really excited

check this out another postcard you guys

they flip out at the post office when

you get us in postcards because they're

like oh my gosh - you get these things from

all over the world this is so cool

actually came over here because I'm

expecting a second battery for the GH5

I haven't given up on it yet and I know

everybody's complaining about the

autofocus thing but we'll see if I can

find a way to make it work still

I'm looking at the monitor I really do need this key light

okay guys don't judge the studio

is a mess right now

this is pretty cool

so this is a post card that came in the

mail today and this is from Essi who

lives in northern Finland Essi this was a

huge hit with Janee at the post office

she's really impressed when you guys do

this and she's like oh my god this one

came from Finland anyway I want to read

a little bit of this to you because I

thought it was really nice hi Ted

greetings from northern Finland I bought

my first DSLR camera in 2014 and I've

loved photography ever since for six

months I haven't really taken any photos

except for my dog mainly to document the

growth and the puppy phase I have tried

many things photo journal assignments

change of method DSLR to analog and

change a place traveling to different

places nearby my main problem though is

the complete lack of motivation and

imagination but I've been watching your

videos and they are very inspirational I

like the way you explain things and

you make photography easily accessible

for anyone who likes to take photos

thank you and keep up the amazing work

all the best Essi - Essi thank you that is the

plan here is to inspire people and try

to make things accessible because I

think that's really important I actually

want to talk about something that I

mentioned in yesterday's video that had

a few comments and I think it's worth

discussing and I mentioned yesterday

that I feel that creativity based on my

own experience is something that is if

you haven't been practicing it it's hard

to get back into and for me it's like

working out or going to the gym if you

don't have your strength if you've taken

a month or two off going back to the gym

is a really difficult experience and I

think that creative work is the same way

if you're not used to being in that

mindset sometimes you hear people call

this flow that's what they refer to it

as but if you're not in that flow then

it's hard to get back in but it's

something you have to do now I had a

somebody comment on that they said was

kind of Zen

for them because they felt that they had

always believed that creativity was

something you either have or you don't

maybe it's something you're born with

and I don't think that's correct at all

i think that certainly we classify

people as being either right brain

dominant or left brain dominant and

that's normal like somebody's either

into music or dance or theater or

they're a writer or whatever that is or

they're on the other side and they're a

doctor or a lawyer or a finance person

or whatever that is but to say that

those people don't involve creativity

in what they do is ridiculous it involves

involves an immense amount of problem

solving and creativity for instance the

word is a little weird because you don't

want to hear a surgeon say that they're

going to get creative when you're under

the knife but if you look at all of the

advancements in medicine over the last

century my gosh there's a lot of

creative thinking that's going on a lot

of problem solving a lot of

experimentation and that's what I'm

talking about so creativity is not just

exclusive to the arts it involves

everybody and it's just a human trait

that we all have it's like thinking or

feeling or the way we treat people I

mean it's like all those things and it's

up to you to whether or not you're going

to access that or not now I will admit

that we live in a culture right now that

does not really promote creativity it's

a consumer culture we all have phones we

have iPads we have apps we have video

games we've got more TV than we could

ever watch and there's a lot of great

stuff but it's just an act of consuming

that we're involved in and our culture

does not really encourage the making of

things and that's one thing that I hope

I do in these videos now there is

another term that I want to talk about

called aptitude and I will give you a

brief story here I did a video on this a

few weeks ago and I did a video on a

teacher of mine from the eighth grade

who made an enormous impact on my life

I'd never told her that before I made

the video she had a good cry it was very

cute we're friends on Facebook and it

was very touching and it was a really

cool thing I felt for me to try to give

back to her for doing that but anyway

around that time the reason to bring

this up when I was in the eighth and

ninth grade I was having a lot of

problems in school I was a horrible

student I was failing everything at one

point in the ninth grade now looking

back on it I can see that I was not in a

good environment that was really

fostering what I was interested in or

the way I wanted to thank or any of

those things it was just what it was and

it was not a good situation for me to be

in but around that time and God bless my

parents they were

doing everything they could to figure

out what the problem was but you know

when you're in high school you do a lot

of testing so whether that's SAT for

college or whatever but I remember my

parents volunteered and they signed me

up to take an aptitude test now and

aptitude basically is something that

does come naturally to you and so this

could be something like you're really

good at music or you're really good at

math problems or maybe you're really

good at acting or you're good at theatre

or you know these these are specific

skills that one might have maybe you're

good at sports maybe you're good at

athletics and so an aptitude is

something that comes naturally to you it

doesn't mean that if you don't have the

aptitude you can't do it and that's

where I mistook that because I was

horribly offended at this entire test I

remember going in and taking it it was

all day long and some of it was like a

test you take on paper with multiple

choice answers some of it was essays

some of it was one-on-one with somebody

some of it was like throwing a ball one

thing I remember from this is when I

found out I was left eye dominant and I

didn't know that you had a dominant eye

at that point I thought I knew he had a

dominant hand you know I wrote with my

right hand but I shoot photography for

instance with my left eye so there was a

lot that I learned from that but I was

horribly offended at the fact that they

were judging me by my aptitudes and at

that point my life all I wanted to do

was music I wanted to have a career in

music I wanted to have a band and be a

rock star and that whole thing I mean it

was eighth ninth grade and that was

what I was into and I was really passionate

about it I remember these test results

coming back and they were saying that

music was not an aptitude of mine and I

was outrageously offended at this notion

and I was out to prove everybody wrong

with it and later on looking back as an

adult I'm more mature about it and I can

see what they were simply trying to do

was show me what I was good at and that I can

make decisions based on that but that's

different than what we're talking about

creativity is not an aptitude creativity

i think is unilateral across the board

everybody has a capacity to be creative

in some way shape or form and I hope

this is inspiring to talk about to you

guys because I want to encourage people

to make stuff that's why we do photo

assignments that's why I share mail with

you its why I share postcards when somebody

shot their own picture and had a

postcard made of it because I want to

encourage that I want to encourage

people making things and doing something

that's creative and exercising that the

thing with creativity is sometimes it

can be frustrating especially when you

narrow it down

to a specific thing like photography

let's say or filmmaking or whatever it

is it can be frustrating as I mentioned

yesterday because you know there's

somebody better than you somewhere along

the line or somebody's more natural at

it you can do anything you want in this

world though and that's important it's

important to stay inspired it's

important to stay motivated and I hope

these videos do that but truth be known

there are times where I don't feel very

inspired and I don't feel very motivated

and it's up for me to figure out what I

can change to make that happen so for

instance when I got this postcard it was

saying that watching these videos helped

but for me videos aren't really the

thing for me but what I will do is look

to friends of mine that I look up to

them inspired by and that's important

and so anyway I hope this is helping and

i hope it makes sense to you guys

somehow and anyway I want to know what

you guys think so please leave me a

comment this this whole creativity thing

i want to be a discussion I want to know

what works for people what doesn't work

for people what their thoughts are on

things and I want to try to encourage

you guys to get out there and do

something for yourself with your camera

and make the world a better place that

is important you guys it looks like

we're going to hit three hundred

thousand I'm so excited and the only

thing I can say is thank you I am so

humbled by that you know it's weird

because like you know the first big

number I remember when I hit 10,000 I

never thought i'd hit that on this

channel and it first I felt like maybe I

should feel really proud or something

but that number represents you guys

that's people who are into what I do and

like what I do and I am eternally

grateful for that so I am here to thank

you and if you guys enjoyed this video

please remember to like it share it and

subscribe maybe you'll be number three

hundred thousand exactly anyway until

the next video see you guys then later

Top 10 HORRIBLE Cases of MISTAKEN IDENTITY - Duration: 10:36.

Top 10 Horrible Cases of Mistaken Identity

Alfred Hitchcock pretty much made his living telling stories of mistaken identity, and

his tales painted thrilling adventures left in the wake of an innocent man being pursued

by mysterious people who thought he was someone else.

Of course, real life is typically not like the movies, and while films usually feature

happy endings, unfortunately that's seldom the case with instances of mistaken identity.

Here is a list of real-life cases, most of which ended horrifically.

10.

Teen Mistakenly Shoots Younger Brother

There is not much good about shootings in the cases of mistaken identity, so we are

just going to jump in with an incredibly tragic instance, to let you know that few things

good come of these situations.

In early-2013, a 16-year-old Florida teenager believed that a burglar had entered his house

and, knowing his parents owned a firearm, located it and shot the person he thought

was an intruder.

It turned out to be his 12-year-old brother.

Their parents were out when the incident occurred, and when the older teen heard strange noises

coming from another part of the house, he called out for his brother.

There was no response, leading him to believe something was amiss.

The younger brother approached the older one, startling him and prompting the shot.

The older brother immediately called 911, but his brother was dead before paramedics

could get him to the hospital.

9.

Unnamed Man Mistaken for Bank Robber, Held at Gunpoint by Cops

This past April, a bank in Sarasota, Florida, was robbed in the middle of the day.

Not long after that, an unnamed man was out riding his bike when police descended on him,

pointed guns at him, and threw him on the ground.

As you might be able to guess, he was not the same man who had just robbed the bank.

The real robber had walked into the bank and after demanding money, escaped on foot.

The police found the innocent man, who has remained anonymous by his own request, not

too far from the bank and, seeing that he fit the description of the criminal, assumed

he was the culprit.

It did not help that, while handcuffed, he was identified by a witness as the bank robber.

Of course things eventually started to sort themselves out when the police realized he

did not have any of the stolen money in his possession, nor did he have a gun or any other

sort of weapon, and in fact was dressed differently than the real culprit.

Fortunately common sense prevailed and he was let off the book, though we're guessing

it wound up being the least pleasant lunch break he ever had.

8.

Assam Rifles Fire on Each Other

For those who are unaware, the Assam Rifles are a paramilitary force in India with a history

that dates back to 1835, who have served in several wars over the years.

Today they work under the Ministry of Home Affairs and help provide internal security,

such as fending off rebels and helping to provide border security.

It was in this capacity that two AR personnel were killed recently when, unfortunately,

two groups from within AR mistook each other as rebels and opened fire on each other.

One of the groups had received information about underground movement and set up an ambush,

but sadly a separate AR group was on a foot patrol in the area when something set off

the firefight.

Unfortunately, it appears as though poor coordination within the Assam Rifles contributed to the

two deaths.

7.

Carlos DeLuna

Considering life is not a Disney movie, cases of mistaken identity are oftentimes tragic.

This was certainly case for Carlos DeLuna, who was sentenced to death for a crime he

did not commit, only for it to be later discovered that he was the tragic victim of mistaken

identity, and had been innocent all along.

Naturally, they only figured this out after he was dead.

A study by a Columbia University law professor and his students concluded that the state

of Texas executed an innocent man when DeLuna was put to death.

DeLuna had been arrested and convicted of stabbing a gas station attendant to death,

but maintained his innocence until the day his execution finally arrived.

According to the law professor, James Liebman, the police failed to pursue other leads and

DeLuna received poor legal defense.

It did not help that DeLuna had been arrested several times in the past but, as Liebman

pointed out, he had no blood on him when he was taken into custody, and the police ignored

potential evidence that the crime might have been committed by DeLuna's friend Carlos

Hernandez.

And when we say might have, we mean "probably did" considering that years later, just

before he died in prison, Hernandez confessed.

6.

Abby Guerra and Marlena Cantu

Imagine being told that you lost your daughter in a fatal car crash, and planning the entire

funeral only to be told later that she was in fact still alive.

And now imagine being in the opposite situation, believing your daughter had survived the same

crash, only to discover days later she had actually perished.

That's exactly what happened to the families of Abby Guerra and Marlena Cantu, and it's

sadly also a scenario that you'll see popping up on this list a little later as well.

In 2010, Guerra and Cantu, who lived in Arizona, were involved in a deadly car accident on

their way home from Disneyland, which is a fact that makes this whole thing that much

sadder.

It was believed that Guerra died at the scene, while Cantu was taken away to the hospital

for treatment.

However, six days later, once swelling began to go down on the girl in the hospital, Cantu's

family discovered it was Guerra, and not their daughter, who had in fact survived.

Guerra's family had put on a car wash to raise funds to pay for her funeral but, once

the mistake was discovered, the funds instead went toward her medical expenses, as well

as the funeral of Cantu.

5.

Margie Carranza and Emma Hernandez

Earlier this year, residents of Southern California were put in a state of crippling fear when

former Navy reservist and LAPD officer Christopher Dorner went on a shooting rampage, killing

four people (including two police officers), and injuring three more members of the LAPD.

Dorner had posted a manifesto that included the names of several police officers, so it

made sense to that the LAPD would be a bit wary when a truck, matching the description

of Dorner's, was seen near the house of one of those officers early one morning, while

he was still at large.

Of course, what did not make as much sense was that police opened fire on the truck,

riddling it with bullet holes despite not being clear on whether or Dorner was inside

or even if it was actually his truck.

As you must have gathered by now, it was not.

Instead, inside the truck were 47-year-old Margie Carranza and 71-year-old Emma Hernandez,

who were out delivering copies of the LA Times when the police fired at least 102 shots at

the truck.

Neither was killed, thankfully, but Hernandez did take two bullets in the hail of gunfire.

This was not the only incident of mistaken identity on that day alone, either; just thirty

minutes later, another man was shot when police believed he was Dorner.

That one is even more baffling though, as the victim was a thin white man, while Dorner

was a large black man.

4.

Ronald Cotton

Rape is an awful thing.

We aren't exactly breaking down any barriers by telling you that.

What's also awful is being falsely accused of committing such a heinous crime, which

is exactly what happened to Ronald Cotton in 1984, when Jennifer Thompson, then a 22-year-old

college student, claimed that Cotton was the man who had raped her, leading to his conviction

and serious prison time.

One night, a man broke into Thompson's house and raped her, and she burned his face into

her brain.

Or at least she thought she had.

Unfortunately for Cotton, he had been accused of sexual assault at the age of 16, when the

mother of his then-girlfriend found him in bed with her daughter and called the police.

The previous accusation did not help his case when Thompson looked at his photo at the police

station and identified him as the man who raped her.

As it turns out, mug shots of both Cotton and the actual attacker show a striking resemblance,

in terms of facial structure.

After 11 years in prison, DNA evidence cleared Cotton, and in a truly inspirational story

of forgiveness, he and Thompson became good friends, even writing a book together.

3.

Krystle Campbell

In the event of any public tragedy, there is bound to be confusion in the aftermath.

After 9/11, authorities spent weeks attempting to confirm the number of casualties.

That's why it is tragic, but not entirely surprising, that in the wake of the April

2013 Boston Marathon bombings, one family was subject to a case of mistaken identity,

leading them to believe their daughter was alright.

Sadly, that was not the case.

Krystle Campbell was one of the three people killed in the bombings.

However, when her father went to the hospital to try to learn whether she was okay, he was

told his daughter was alive, but would possibly lose her legs.

However, when he gained access to the hospital room, he discovered the victim was not his

daughter.

He was soon after informed that Krystle had died at the scene of the bombings.

2.

Whitney Cerak and Laura Van Ryn

One of the most amazing cases of mistaken identity in recent memory is also one of the

most heartbreaking, as it involves two families.

Tragedy was replaced by a miracle for one, while hope became despair for the other.

The two families were those of Whitney Cerak and Laura VanRyn, two friends who were involved

in a horrific car crash in 2006.

The friends shared a strong resemblance, as both were young, attractive blondes, and apparently

it was this resemblance that led to the confusion.

What was the confusion, you ask?

Oh, only that the coroner originally pronounced Whitney dead, while in fact she lay severely

injured in the hospital for weeks under the assumption she was, in fact, Laura.

Even the families were convinced, as Laura's family sat at her bedside until her facial

swelling had died down enough to finally confirm that she was not their daughter.

Whitney was alive, despite having recently had a (closed-casket) funeral attended by

more than 1,400 people.

As it turns out, her parents never looked at the body to confirm it was their daughter,

and there was no DNA test, as it was taken at the word of the people who had been asked

to identify her that they were not mistaken.

1.

Adolf Beck

It could be argued that the case of Adolf Beck is the most famous and extraordinary

mistaken identity victim in history, as his case spawned books and remains not only one

of the most notorious cases of mistaken identity, but also wrongful conviction on record.

In fact, his case has even made its way into textbooks studied in law schools.

Beck, who lived in Britain, found himself facing 15 convictions, all because a random

woman whom he met on the street one day in 1895 thought he looked like a man who had

a few weeks prior robbed her of a fairly small amount of money.

Unfortunately for Beck, the same swindler was wanted for several other similar thefts,

leading to all of those convictions.

Astonishingly, the other victims of the actual thefts identified Beck as the culprit, with

some even picking him out of a lineup.

There had been similar crimes committed in 1877 and a police officer was set to identify

as the same thief, who had served four years in prison earlier.

This was despite the fact that Beck had been living in Peru at the time of those earlier

crimes.

The judge ignored this apparent evidence of innocence and sentenced Beck to seven years

in prison, of which he wound up serving five.

While he was imprisoned, yet more evidence mounted in favor, such as how the actual thief,

named John Smith, had been circumcised.

After examination, it was discovered Beck remained uncircumcised.

The judge was presented this new conclusive evidence but ignored it, leaving Beck to finish

out his sentence and confirming his status as one of the worst judges in recorded history.

After being released, he was accused yet again in 1904 and was convicted again as well.

This time, however, fortune finally smiled on Beck when the real John Smith was arrested,

pulling off yet another swindle while Beck sat in jail.

Luckily, the judge didn't ignore the evidence this time around, and Beck was a free man.
