Why Hamburg Cruise Days MUST Be On Your Cruising Bucket List? - Duration: 5:47.

If you're into cruise ships, cruising or anything maritime, I'm going to tell you

about an event that you should plan to build into your wish list - and make sure

you do as part of your cruising experience. Hi I'm Gary Bembridge of Tips

For Travellers and I'm going to talk about Cruise Days Hamburg and show you why, and

tell you why, you should try and either plan to go on a cruise that actually

incorporates Cruise Days Hamburg into the actual cruise or alternatively you

should visit Hamburg during the weekend when cruise days is on. So, what exactly

is Cruise Days? Cruise Days is a three days weekend event celebrating

everything cruising. It happens every two years in the second week of September.

The big highlight of the event culminates in a massive six ship parade

out of Hamburg down the River Elbe. There are six cruise ships. That's a maximum

amount that the port of Hamburg will allow, and each cruise ship has four

smaller ships - so there's 24 support ships, along with an incredible fireworks

display watched by up to 200,000 people. It's an incredible atmosphere. It's

incredibly emotional, whether you're on the ship or you're on the bank

watching this magnificent parade. This is an absolutely magnificent cruise

spectacular. It's unique. It's impressive. It's dramatic. However Cruise Days has a

few other things going for it as well. An absolute must do thing is Blue

Port Hamburg, a ten-day event which is created by a local Hamburg artist called

Michael Batz, and he's been doing it for many years now and he has a real vision

and passion for it. He originally created for the football Euro Cup. What happens is

all down the River Elbe, and through the harbour, blue lights are placed on

everything from buildings, ships, cranes and all sorts of structures down the river.

As you can see on this video, where we're actually on a boat trip down the

river, it's a magnificent event. Again lots of people come out and they fill the

bars, they watch the ships going up and down looking at the blue lights and it is a

really fantastic event. The actual blue harbour lasts for ten days, but the

real heart of it happens over Cruise Days. If you're in Hamburg for Cruise

Days there's many more other cruise things that you can do. There's lots of

concerts, there's lots of events and a series of

things which are called islands. They are focused on each of the cruise lines

taking part, and the cruise lines will have all sorts of displays. So, for

example, Aida had actually replicated what a cabin looks like. Other places

gave away free balloons, held raffles and there's beer stands, drink stands, sweet stands,

sausage stands. There's a real carnival atmosphere all along the river. You can

also go and visit the Maritime Museum. This is a massive big building. I think

altogether there's 10 floors but 9 floors are exhibition areas with

all sorts of incredible displays. On the top floor there's this

monstrous big collection of miniature models of ships. It really is quite

remarkable. As you work your way down you pass through other floors which are

dedicated to things like maritime art, where you see a huge collection of

beautiful maritime paintings and pictures. There's another level which is

dedicated to warfare at sea where you will see lots of weapons, you'll

understand the various uniforms, the various structures that existed, the

ships and find out much more about warfare at sea. There's also a whole

section on submarines where again you'll learn about the history of submarines,

u-boats and the different models and different types of submarines that exist.

There's also another area which is dedicated to safety at sea. There's

another section which is all around the different uniforms and traditions and

medals. There are phenomenal models all around the museum, some hanging from the

ceiling like this dramatic one up against a background of a rough sea. As

you work your way through the various nine floors of exhibitions you'll keep coming

across artwork, models, weapons, paintings. So definitely if you visiting Hamburg

for Cruise Days I would strongly keep with the maritime theme and go to the

Maritime Museum. The collection is housed in the Kaiserspeck B. It's a

beautiful and stunning a waterfront warehouse. Another very important

structure on the River Elbe, which is definitely worth going to, is the Elbphilharmonie concert hall. This is a special structure which was built at the

creation of the new Hafen city, which is a big urban development which is

opening up the whole Harbor area to all sorts of very

interesting buildings and living spaces and shops and places like the Elbphilharmonie

concert hall, which is a massive big concert hall. It's really

quite magnificent and it's become part of the whole maritime story of Hamburg.

The lower base representing the tradition of the old brick warehouses and the top

this beautiful wavy structure representing the waves and the sea. So

there you are, that's a little bit about Cruise Days. It happens every two years

on the second weekend of September. It's a phenomenal event. Over 500,000 people

visit during the course of those three days, with up to 200,000 watching that

very important procession which happens on the Saturday evening at quarter past

nine as those six cruise ships sail out. I strongly recommend to go on a cruise

which either embarks during cruise days or includes cruise days as part of the

trip - or of course you can just come on a weekend visit and

spend a couple of days wallowing in the great maritime adventures and cruising

and have a great carnival time. I hope you found that helpful if you did I'd love

it if you "liked" the video and please subscribe to Tips For Travellers and get

more travel inspiration, advice and tips.

How Do Small Business Health Reimbursement Arrangements Work? - Duration: 1:51.

How do small business health reimbursement arrangements, or HRAs, work?

A federal law passed at the end of 2016 known as the "21st Century Cures Act" provides

small businesses with a potential new way to help their employees pay for health insurance.

Under this law, qualifying small businesses can use health reimbursement accounts, or

HRAs, to help their employees buy health insurance and pay for health care related expenses.

Here is how it works.

A qualifying small employer opens an HRA account on behalf of an employee.

Then, in 2017, the employer can put up to $4,950 into the account for a single employee,

or $10,000 for an employee with a family.

The employee can then buy their own individual or family health insurance plan.

And, they can use the money in their HRA to pay their monthly premiums or certain out

of pocket costs Be aware that employees who receive HRA contributions

typically won't be eligible for government subsidies when buying coverage on their own

through a government exchange.

However, employees can shop for individual or family coverage on non-government exchanges

like eHealth.com or when buying directly from an insurance company.

Although federal law allows HRAs to be used in this way, HRAs may not be an option in

all states because some state laws restricting HRAs have not yet been updated.

For more information about Health Reimbursement Arrangements for small businesses, speak with

an accountant or a tax or legal advisor.

QUADRADINHA, AN AMAZING KIZOMBA STEP | Learn To Dance Kizomba – Kizomba for Beginners - Duration: 6:19.

Hi Kizomberos!.

Welcome to a new tutorial from our Kizomba Series for Beginners.

We are Carlos and Claudia, teachers at the Dance School ¡Deberías Estar Bailando!.

We already wanted a tutorial from Kizomba, did not you?.

Today we bring you a great Kizomba step, a round Kizomba step,… The Quadradinha.

And so round, because we are going to walk turning.

In addition to this new step, we wanted to include an extra in this tutorial.

So be very attentive.

Are you ready?.

Today's new step, the Quadradinha, is very interesting. You could see it

in the choreography we did of the song Lento, by Daniel Santacruz.

We leave in the description the link.

This is a step that we like very much,

because it introduces us to the circular dynamics of Kizomba.

Until now we had always danced in a line, because we needed to show

clearly the steps in front of the camera, but Kizomba is not danced in a line.

In the Quadradinha we turn around an imaginary square, performing a total of 8 steps.

We walk forward, with normal steps,

leading the woman to turn to our left.

In this way,…

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.

Until we return to our initial position.

We will notice how man guides us to move backwards and at the same time

we turn to our right.

We must not offer resistance, nor try to decide how much we turn.

The Quadradinha can start from any Basic Step.

It is very versatile.

We show you two options with some music.

And now the extra.

In tutorial #14, in which we teached you to combine the Man and Woman Exits.

We asked you a question waiting for you to analyze what was learned

and look for a second form of combination.

We love that our students reason and discover new things on their own.

That is why we want you, this community, who are also our students, to participate.

And so it has been,…

R Ramones and Fusión Latina Academia de Baile have responded with two options,

and we are going to comment them.

The form that R Ramones proposes to us is as follows.

I tried to reason the Woman's Exit and then to combine it with the one of the Man.

And I find it more comfortable from the fourth step, where you already have the woman in front.

Then I would continue with the Man's Exit normally.

I did it and it worked out well.

Exactly this is how we would combine the Woman and Man Exits,

in the 4th step of the Woman's Exit,… Look.

1, 2, 3 and 4

We brake to leave now forwards with the Man's Exit.

1 and 2.

We do it complete.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and join.

And the way they propose us from Fusión Latina Academia de Baile is this.

The answer is: Yes!, it's possible.

In counts 1, 2 and 3 we make the Woman's Exit.

In the next 5 counts we make the Man's Exit.

You combine the Exits one step before us, in the 3rd,

and so you take advantage that you are already out of the dance position.

This can be complicated if we do not control the weight of the woman's body very well.

She could step on the third Step and need to move her other foot, changing the order of steps.

Look at the error.

1, 2 and 3,… If this foot has weight, now the woman will need to move the other foot,

4 and 5.

The correct thing would be the following,…

1, 2 and 3.

Now we have not put the weight on that foot, so can repeat.

1 and 2.

We do it complete,...

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.

We prefer the first form, it is more fluid,

since we are exchanging the weight in the feet naturally.

No sudden changes.

But it is also very good.

To both, R Ramones and Fusión Latina Academia de Baile, many thanks

for having contributed.

A very strong hug for the two and a greeting for the students of Fusión Latina.

Ready to edit and publish today's tutorial. A tutorial with lots of Kizomba.

The Quadradinha, a very simple but very valuable step to dance.

And the new way of combining the Woman and Man Exits.

If you like the tutorial, a Like is the easiest way to prove it.

And if you have not already done so, do not forget to subscribe

to join this incredible Community.

Dancing will change your life,…

You should be dancing!.

See you in the next tutorial. A hug.

Completed Series & Trilogies (Adult + YA Fantasy) [CC] | The Book Life - Duration: 12:28.

Hey guys it's Sarah Jane welcome back to my channel, today I'm here to bring you a

video that I have been planning in my head for a long time and never actually

just got my butt on the chair to do and that is my completed series and

trilogies video! So I'm just gonna jump right in with the Fever series first of

all because why would you not. Let's just get it out the way. Now you may or may

not have heard about the Fever series from me because I don't think I talk

about it very much but basically it's an adult urban fantasy series set in Dublin

in Ireland and it focuses on the Fae. If it was a TV series it would be made

by HBO and if that don't tell you all you need to know them I got nothing. Now

the first five books of the Fever series are considered a series in their own

right and that's Darkfever, Bloodfever, Faefever, Dreamfever and Shadowfever. Then we

have the two spin-off books but are still set within the same world which

are Iced and Burned these are still part of the fever series but told from

different perspectives. and then the series goes back to being fever related

books and you have Feverborn and Feversong. I only have Feversong because I

read the other one on my kindle and I haven't got around to buying it yet

because that's just me. If you absolutely want to complete the entire series then

you also have a Fevermoon which is a graphic novel set in the world which

takes place between i think maybe book three and four I think. But yeah I've

read the complete Fever series. I know shock horror. The next book series

that I've completed is the Shifter series by Rachel Vincent. This is a six

book urban fantasy series and I'm doing this because it's actually set on like a

Texas ranch, I think it's Texas, it's set on a ranch

and it's not urban but it does fit into your urban tropes, if you like. Forget

werewolves they're so last year this series is about wearcats and if that

don't interest you then bye. I'm just kidding you can stay. So the books in the series are

Stray, Rogue, Pride, Prey, Shift and Alpha. This is one of my favorite

series of all time it's an adult series it has a really amazing kick-ass

headstrong stubborn main character called Faythe who are I absolutely love.

Like I said it's about wearcats it's one of my absolute all-time favorites I

feel like Rachel Vincent's writing in this book series it's so

strong and it's her first book series ever so I absolutely love this series.

Now there are two books currently out in a spinoff series for this which are

called the wildcats but there's only two books out currently so I can't

really say have completed that trilogy or series or however many books there's

going to be because they're not complete yet. And I've only read one of them.

Come on guys. You gotta get down. I quit. I'll just wear them shall I?

The next book series I've completed is The Mortal

Instruments series now I'm pretty sure that you all know what the Mortal

Instruments is about... if you don't what rock have you been living under? You know

like when everyone knows about Shadowhunters so then you're like what

do I even say about it? How do I sum it up? Everyone knows. The

Mortal Instruments is an urban fantasy series by Cassandra Clare it's all about

these warriors who have angel blood and they fight demons and this - I don't even

know what to say right because every one know what the Mortal Instruments is! This book

series has the Shadowhunters otherwise known as the Nephilim.

We have warlocks, we have vampires, we have werewolves, we have the Fae, it's got it all!

I'm pretty sure that you guys all know the order of The Mortal Instruments

but in case you don't we have City of Bones, City of Ashes and City of Glass

which is effectively its own trilogy by itself, but it's also a series. Then we

have City of Fallen Angels, City of Lost Souls and City of Heavenly Fire.

That's the series that I have completed now I'm going to go on to the trilogies.

The first trilogy that I'm going to talk about ties in perfectly with the ones

that I just mentioned and this is the info Devices trilogy by Cassandra Clare.

What just fell down? The Infernal Devices is a prequel series set in London it's set

way before the events of the Mortal Instruments and it's a prequel series

and I absolutely love this trilogy. To the people who are gonna say which one

do I read first I will do an entire video on that but the very short version

is you can either read these all on their own first or you can read books 1

2 3 and then 4 of the Mortal Instruments, read these, and then read books 5 and 6.

Ok? Essentially read them in publication order. The next trilogy that I want to

talk to you guys about is the Unbound trilogy by Rachel Vincent. This is

an adult urban fantasy trilogy this is a trilogy that to be honest with you I'd

kind of forgotten about but at the time of reading these books I absolutely

loved them. Each book is told from a different character's perspective but

all of the characters link up and if I remember rightly

it's about this city that's divided and one man has half and another man has

half and they're like at war with each other. Is that what happens? These books

have a crime a little bit of like a gangster undertone with the urban

fantasy which I really love and the characters are really kick-ass.

Definitely recommend. The next trilogy that I've completed is the Winners trilogy

by Marie Rutkoski. The first book is the Winners Curse then we have

the Winners Crime and then finally we have the Winners Kiss. This trilogy is a

YA fantasy trilogy, now what's interesting about this trilogy is

actually it doesn't have magic which i think is a very interesting element to

this story and this is one of my most favorite trilogies of all time. Kestrel

our protagonist finds herself at a slave auction and she sees a kindred spirit in

Arin one of the slaves and she buys him and the Winners Curse is following on

from that and the repercussions of that. Kestrel discovers that the price she's

paid is higher than she ever imagined and this is a trilogy that in my mind is

so beautifully written I I don't even have words. This trilogy is what got me

into stories being told in third person because typically I'm a first-person

kind of reader and these books are absolutely stunning.

The next trilogy that I've completed at a trilogy that I still to this day have

not done a review of and it drives me insane and that is the Grisha trilogy by

Leigh Bardugo. We have Shadow and Bone, Siege and Storm, and Ruin and Rising. This

trilogy is one of my most favorite trilogies of all time and it's the story

of Alina Starkov who is a lonely orphan and one day she discovers that she is in

fact a Grisha. The Grisha are the kingdom's magical

elite, she finds out that she's a part of them and the trilogy goes on from there.

Alina is one of my most favorite protagonists of all time I absolutely

adore this trilogy I can't even go into words about how much this trilogy means

to me, it has one of my most favorite characters of all time,

the Darkling. This is a trilogy that's very strong it's very immersive the

world-building is so good I absolutely adore it and I really recommend it.

And yes I have read the Six of Crows duology, but because it's a duology I haven't

included it. The next trilogy I have to show you is one I've competed very

recently and that's the Remnant Chronicles by Mary E Pearson. In this

trilogy we have the Kiss of Deception, The Heart of Betrayal and The Beauty of

Darkness. this is a trilogy that features a runaway princess, an assassin and a

prince. Lia is a very headstrong protagonist she doesn't want to get

married she doesn't want to have this arranged marriage so she runs away and

then she's hunted down by an assassin and also the prince that she ran away

from. The story goes on from there I absolutely adore this trilogy and the

funny thing is is a lot of people absolutely adore this book and I

typically didn't, I kind of felt like it was a bit average it was like oh the

princess the assassin and the prince okay and I felt like I knew exactly

where it was going I felt like it was predictable and I think I only gave it 3

out of 5 stars, and then it ended on such a cliffhanger I read the second one and

then I read the third one and now absolutely loved them. And because I

forgot to say at the beginning the remnant chronicles is a YA Fantasy

trilogy. The next trilogy that I have to show you is the Daughter of Smoke and

Bone trilogy by Laini Taylor. The first book is Daughter of Smoke & Bone and I

have this really lovely cover. The next book is Days of Blood and Starlight and

the final book is Dreams of Gods and Monsters this story is a really nice

mixture of urban fantasy meets high fantasy because you have the

contemporary world and then you have the hidden world and it's a story all about

the Seraphim, angels and all these other monstrous creatures that I cannot

pronounce. This series follows our protagonist Karou who is a blue head art

student from Prague and she has a secret life that nobody knows about. This is a

trilogy that I really really love, Laini Taylor has a very beautiful writing

style and absolutely loved the first book, the second book, but the third book

kind of lost its way a little bit for me if I'm honest but I still really really

enjoyed it and I think it's a beautiful trilogy. The next trilogy that I want to

show you that I've read is the Dark Elements trilogy by Jennifer L

Armentrout. Yeah I know I only have two of them but basically these covers are

shit and then they redesigned the covers and they're even shitter so I didn't buy

it. I didn't buy the third one I was like nah. Nah. It was a push to buy these. This

is a very unique trilogy, it has a both demons and gargoyles. Our protagonist

Layla is caught up in a love triangle between

this demon Prince Roth and her gargoyle best friend Zane.

It's actually a very very good trilogy I have to be honest on the surface it

sounds a little bit samey when you take away the gargoyle stuff but if you ever

need a series that you just need to binge this is the series. The story is

actually much more than a paranormal romance though you've got Layla's own

personal journey about her own personal abilities and I really really like this

trilogy. The next trilogy that I have completed is the Shatter Me trilogy by

Tahereh Mafi. The first book is Shatter Me, then we have Unravel Me and Ignite Me.

and I haven't taken these books out in so long and I'm like wow look how

beautiful you are, my babies. This is a dystopian romance now I'm saying

dystopian romance because it's it's more romance than just dystopian. It's like a

romance in a dystopian setting whereas a lot of typical dystopian are very heavy

on that. I really really like this trilogy I will say that Shatter Me while I

liked it at the time it is definitely in my mind the weaker of the three novels

Unravel Me it is brilliant and Ignite Me is absolutely amazing. At this moment in

time I have read the Shatter Me trilogy now the Shatter Me trilogy, as many of

you guys if not all of you guys will know by now, is becoming a series. There

are more books on the way but at this moment in time I've completed the

trilogy. The Shatter Me trilogy follows our protagonist Juliette. Juliette has a

touch that kills she literally touches people and she kills them and when the

story starts she's been locked away for 287 days.... 264 days. But the story goes on

from there there's a love triangle there's a lot of action there's a really

really hot guy called Warner, who I absolutely love. So yeah read it

basically. And the final trilogy that I've read is the Court of Thorns and

Roses trilogy this is a new adult fantasy trilogy by Sarah J Maas, and

these books are very hit and miss for me they involve the Fae the first one is

the Beauty and the Beast retelling the second one is a Hades and Persephone

retelling, I have no idea what the third one is. They are all interlinked together

there is an overarching story, and the first one is A Court of Thorns and Roses.

Which I did not like. The second one is a Court of Mist and Fury, which I loved. And

the third one is a Court of Wings and ruin which I felt was okay. I don't even

know. It's a fantasy story all about Fae and it starts when Feyre is taken by

by Tamlin... she killed someone and she had to pay with her life... I can't even

remember and I don't even want to go into it because the chances are, you

already know. I just don't want to waste my breath because I'm tired at this point

and what part of me thought this would be a really quick easy video to film. I'm

a fool fool a fool a fool. So that's it that's the complete set of the trilogies

and series I have read that are on my shelves. Because I have some that I've

read that aren't on my shelves for example like The Hunger Games, Divergent

Twilight I've read all those but I don't have them anymore and I feel like it's a

bit redundant to mention them. So like I said that's all the trilogies and the

series that I've read that are fantasy / paranormal, urban fantasy all in that kind of

realm there's a lot that I've started that I haven't yet finished but I

figured if I do this then its part 1 and then in the future I can do part 2. What

trilogies and series that I've read have you also read and are there any that

you've been keen to pick up but you haven't yet? Thank you so much for

watching please like comment and subscribe and click the little alarm

bell so that you get my videos as a notification because a lot of videos

aren't going in subscription feeds anymore and I think that's really sad.

Boo youtube. But thank you so much for watching and I'll see you guys again

Codeine: A Fairly Pointless Drug - Duration: 6:43.

You would hope every popular medication is being prescribed for justifiable reasons,

but that's not always the case.

There are many examples of overprescribed drugs and codeine is among them.

It's one of the most popular pain medications in the world, having been used for analgesia

for decades.

All through its history it's been considered safer than opioids like morphine, while still

being effective for minor and moderate pain.

It's also been treated as a "gold standard" cough medicine.

When I looked through the literature on the substance, it became abundantly clear codeine's

reputation isn't well-deserved.

And I'm far from the only person saying this.

Numerous papers have called for a reduction in the prescribing of codeine because of concerns

about efficacy and safety.

I want to highlight those concerns and explain why codeine should be used far less than it

currently is.

For full coverage of the drug, visit my codeine overview.

Before we can explore the general absurdity of codeine, you need to know how it works.

Codeine is essentially just a prodrug, meaning metabolism to a different substance is required

for the desired effects.

There's some debate in the literature about which metabolites are most important.

Morphine, a minor metabolite, seems responsible for a very large portion of codeine's activity.

But a major metabolite, codeine-6-glucuronide, could contribute as well.

Based on the scientific and clinical evidence, it's fair to say metabolism to morphine is

a key part of codeine's safety and efficacy.

So, how does this metabolism occur?

It takes place via the action of CYP2D6, an enzyme expressed in the liver and elsewhere.

CYP2D6 is highly polymorphic, meaning its ability to catalyze codeine's transformation

is going to vary between individuals.

There are a few phenotypes of 2D6 worth knowing.

The first is the extensive metabolizer phenotype.

This is what most people have and it means they have a 'normal' level of 2D6 activity.

The second is the poor metabolizer phenotype.

These individuals generate little to no 2D6-dependent metabolites.

7 - 10% of Caucasians are poor metabolizers, compared to 2% of Asians and 1% of Arabs.

And the final phenotype I'll focus on is ultrarapid metabolizer.

In these cases, enzyme activity is higher than normal, so more of the 2D6-dependent

metabolite will be quickly generated.

20 to 30% of people with African or Middle Eastern heritage have this phenotype, compared

to 3 to 6% of Caucasians.

Now let's apply this information to codeine.

There is significant variation in metabolism between individuals and between ethnic groups,

so you can't reliably say how much morphine someone is receiving.

If you don't know how much morphine is generated, you also can't say much about codeine's efficacy

or safety.

As David Juurlink, a physician and pharmacologist, puts it: "A known dose of codeine is an unknown

dose of morphine."

Therefore, it's "always an irrational drug."

We have enough alternatives to codeine that it would be hard to find cases where those

drugs don't make the most sense.

The evidence strongly supports NSAIDs and paracetamol for mild to moderate pain.

And in cases where something else is needed, we have other opioids.

For one, you could simply give morphine itself.

It makes sense to administer a fairly predictable dose of morphine rather than an unknown dose

via codeine.

Beyond morphine, we have drugs like oxycodone and hydrocodone that could work for some people.

After you've gone through the list of drugs that probably make more sense, you're not

going to see many cases where codeine is helpful.

Unfortunately, it's utilized like a first-line treatment for pain despite these properties.

Outside of pain, a popular use of codeine is in the treatment of cough.

It's a common antitussive medication.

People often believe codeine is one of the best drugs for this purpose, a belief that

stretches back many years.

However, the literature doesn't really support most of its alleged antitussive properties.

Neither it nor other opioids are recommended for cough associated with the common cold

and in general it doesn't seem effective for upper respiratory infection cough.

There may be some effect in certain kinds of chronic cough, but even that application

isn't very well-supported.

At the least, we can safely say there's little to no proven antitussive efficacy when someone

has an upper respiratory infection.

Beyond lacking efficacy in a large portion of people or not being superior to other analgesics,

codeine has safety issues that further complicate its use.

Especially in young children, codeine can really be an issue.

Partly because of the ultrarapid metabolizer phenotype and partly because of other patient

factors, codeine has sometimes caused severe respiratory depression and death at medical

doses.

Though it's long been prescribed to children who've gone through adenotonsillectomy or

adenoidectomy, this is no longer recommended.

Multiple children have died in medical settings due to an unexpected response to codeine.

This concern has even shown up in the context of breastfeeding.

Particularly if the mother has an ultrarapid phenotype, their baby could be exposed to

especially large amounts of morphine.

Compared to the millions of children who receive codeine each year, there's no question these

cases are rare, but they still build an even stronger case against codeine.

And it's also possible for adults to encounter dangerous effects depending on their metabolizer

status and preexisting respiratory issues.

People don't know their metabolizer status before receiving codeine.

So neither the prescriber nor the patient really know what to expect.

There's a chance they'll basically receive an inactive drug and a chance they'll receive

a problematic dose of morphine.

And this risk is being taken just to use a drug that's not very effective.

We have multiple studies confirming NSAIDs and paracetamol, not to mention other opioids,

are good options for pain.

Yet codeine is still handed out like a first-line treatment by many physicians.

Plus, if the reason you're using codeine is just for the sake of giving someone morphine,

there's not a great reason to avoid prescribing morphine instead.

Luckily, the irrationality of codeine has been getting more attention.

Papers have discussed the CYP2D6 dosing issue and codeine's lack of efficacy.

Some governmental agencies have even issued warnings.

Though prescribing practices still haven't changed much, so codeine remains a top opioid.

Hopefully NSAIDs, paracetamol, alternative opioids, and other analgesics will start to

fill in the role codeine currently has.

What Kate Gosselin's Life Is Like Today - Duration: 5:42.

TLC's Jon and Kate Plus 8 once pulled in record ratings.

But following Jon and Kate Gosselin's messy divorce, Kate was forced to go solo with the

spinoff Kate Plus 8.

That was nearly a decade ago, but you may be surprised to learn the series is still

on the air.

So what is Kate Gosselin's life like today?

Seems like the more things change, the more they stay the same.

"Mommy's so over-dramatic."

"No!

I'm not doing this!"

Camera ready

With new episodes of Kate Plus 8 airing in 2017, Kate and her kids have been on TV for

more than a decade.

Since the divorce, the fate of the show has constantly been in question, in part due to

Jon's alleged concerns about his children being "used as props" for good TV.

But Kate's been upfront about her motivation for doing the show.

In her 2010 book, I Just Want You to Know, she openly apologizes to her children for

their "unconventional" upbringing, acknowledging that the family needed the money, having previously

survived on donations from a local church, barely making ends meet.

Divorce drama

Ever since they separated in 2009, Kate's relationship with Jon has been tabloid fodder.

While he's made headlines of his own, Jon's biggest weapon against Kate is raising concerns

about her parenting and the way reality TV is impacting their kids.

As for Kate, she's generally issued measured responses when Jon pops up in the tabloids:

"I'm really focused less on what Jon has to say."

But behind the scenes, their dynamic has reportedly grown heated.

In 2016, she filed a police report accusing Jon of kidnapping their daughter, Hannah.

Kate also alleged Jon was dealing drugs and using his DJ gigs as a front.

Though her allegations were nasty, Jon was cleared by a judge.

As of 2017, Kate retains primary custody of the kids, but Jon gets to see them "once a

week for dinner and every other weekend," with the notable exception of twins Mady and

Cara, who refuse to see their dad.

Love life

Kate reportedly began dating millionaire Jeff Prescott in January 2015.

But when Prescott pulled the plug two days before he was scheduled to appear on Kate

Plus 8, Kate took to Twitter to deny the two were ever together, tweeting, "Sorry guys.

You've been 'duped' by the tabloids again!

There was no breakup recently at all.

Gotta be in a relationship in order to 'break up'!"

But Prescott maintains the two were in a relationship.

In a 2016 interview with Radar, he claimed he broke up with Kate because she was already

planning a spin-off show focused on their relationship, and he didn't feel like that

was a good idea for his children from a previous marriage.

That, and the 53-year-old Prescott allegedly fell for a 27-year-old business grad shortly

before dumping Kate.

"Oh, whatever, I'm not dating him.

He's business guy, we're working on a business deal.

He's a great guy."

Despite the relationship's questionable authenticity, it was apparently the only time since her

divorce that Kate has actively pursued a romantic interest.

Cutting ties

Before her marriage fell apart, Kate and her family booked lucrative speaking tours at

churches, and she published two bestsellers with Christian publisher, Zondervan.

Christianity Today reported, "Of all the viewers who followed the Gosselins, evangelicals were

among the most faithful," until it became clear that the Gosselins' marriage wasn't

as wholesome as it appeared on TV.

But Kate was distancing herself from loved ones, too.

In 2014, Kate's sister, Kendra Wilber, and an anonymous friend, told the Daily Mail that

Kate had essentially cut herself off from the family and church members who'd chipped

in to help the family make ends meet before hitting it big on TLC.

The friend said, "There's a trail of a lot of hurt people in her wake.

I don't know if Kate even cares about that.

There were older women in the community who were at her house for three, four, five hours

every day for two years.

Their lives revolved around the children and now they have no contact with them."

But Kate may have good reason to keep her distance from her family.

Her brother, Kevin Kreider, and his wife Jodi, who often appeared on episodes of the show,

testified against Kate during a state investigation to determine if Jon and Kate Plus 8 violated

child labor laws, which it did not, according to Us Weekly.

Tabloid toll

While appearing on The Dr. Oz Show in late 2016, Kate opened up about her struggle to

deal with negative tabloid stories.

"This stuff just eats—it drags you down.

It eats away at you.

It drains your physical energy.

And it's probably the most difficult part."

Kate became particularly incensed when she talked about how the bad press affects her

children.

"There's still going to be a percentage of people that still can't tell the true me from

the tabloid picture they've created… and it angers me even more when it affects my

children."

Tough choices

In August 20 16, Kate told People that she'd made the difficult decision to enroll her

son Collin in a program away from home.

She said, "Collin has special needs.

[There's] a fairly fluid diagnosis of what those needs are, but he needs to learn certain

strategies to help him deal with things...Our entire family has been impacted."

Things got ugly when Life & Style ran a report claiming Kate had been investigated for child

abuse after Collin spoke to staffers at his treatment facility.

In an interview with Good Morning America, she called the claims untrue.

"I'm in the public eye.

I've been investigated many times.

It's always unfounded, obviously."

"So they're all unfounded?"

"Yes.

Absolutely."

Kate has never been charged with any form of child abuse, and her custody agreement

with Jon has never changed, despite his threats to take her to court over issues with Collin.

Doing her best

Kate will be the first to tell you that she's not perfect and has definitely made mistakes

while raising her eight children in front of the cameras.

But at the end of the day, she believes she has provided a future for her kids that she

wouldn't have been able to afford without their reality fame.

Whether or not it was worth the price is too early to tell, but like any mom or dad, Kate

is doing the best she can.

Has it gotten messy along the way?

Absolutely.

But, hey, that's parenting.

Believe in BC: A Message from Father Tony Penna - Boston College Alumni - Video - Duration: 1:21.

I believe in BC for many reasons,

but principally?

Because I believe in its students.

And what campus ministry tries to do through their service programs

is to give our students an opportunity

to leave the confines of Boston College

and to go to service opportunities throughout the world

and our students are transformed in all the right ways.

They become more globally aware,

they become more spiritually enriched,

they become more self-aware.

We're given hope that the future is in good hands

that our students who have such a commitment to justice

reminds us who are a little bit older

that down the road the values that we hold so dear to ourselves

are the same values that they're committed to.

It's really important

because service is fundamental to our identity.

And there's a saying

Mother Theresa likes to say this saying

"There are many ways to go"

she says

"Some people do service by going

others go by giving."

and so any kind of gift we get

it's like manna from heaven.
