Running electrical wires behind your walls

is a great way to add an additional outlet

or switch right where you need it.

We know the idea of working behind drywall or paneling sounds difficult,

but fishing electrical wires behind walls

is a job you can do yourself with a few common tools, a helpful assistant,

and a little patience.

First things first.

If you aren't comfortable with wiring projects,

hire a professional electrician to run your new wire or cable.

Check with local building inspectors before doing any electrical work

to ensure compliance with local codes.

Now let's get started.

Determine the location for your new device.

Then decide whether to power your new device from an existing outlet

or from the breaker panel.

Diagram your new wiring path and measure for the length of NMB cable

you'll need.

Buy some extra cable in case you encounter any unexpected obstructions.

To be clear, cable refers to the wires inside the jacket

where the wires are enclosed.

Be aware that wire just means the individual circuit feeder wire itself.

Ready to go?

Let's do this.

Step one.

Turn off the electricity.

Make sure to turn off the electricity at the breaker panel

to the outlet or circuit breaker you will draw power

from for your new device.

Use a voltage tester to confirm the power is off at the outlet or breaker.

Be sure a new device will not overload the circuit from which

you will draw power, and check with local building inspectors

before doing any electrical work to ensure compliance with local codes.

Step two.

Mark for the electrical box.

Use a stud finder to insure the location for your new device isn't on a stud.

Hold the electrical box up to the wall in the location where

it will be installed.

Use a level to ensure the outline is straight.

Trace around the box with a pencil to mark the area to be cut.

Step three.

Drill a hole in the ceiling or floor.

If you'll be running cable through the ceiling,

carefully drill a hole with a 1/8 inch drill bit

through the ceiling above the new wall box location.

If you'll be running cable through your basement or crawl space,

drill into the baseboard or floor right next to the baseboard instead.

Insert a stiff wire or straightened coat hanger into the hole.

In your attic or basement, look for a two

by four beam adjacent to the protruding stiff wire.

In an attic, this beam is the top of the wall, known as the top plate.

In a basement, it's the bottom of the wall, known as the bottom plate.

If the two by four is under a piece of plywood or covered in another way,

measure two and 1/2 inches from the reference wire toward the two by four

and drill there.

That should put the hole in the middle of the plate.

Check with a flashlight to be sure there are no electrical wires or plumbing

pipes behind the walls where you'll be working.

Step four.

Cut the opening for the electrical box.

Drill a 1/2 starter hole at a corner of your electrical box outline.

Start at the hole and cut along the outline with the drywall saw.

It's OK if the edges of the opening are rough.

You'll conceal this opening with a wall plate later.

Step five.

Run the cable.

In your attic, use the spade bit to drill a hole through the top plate

directly above the new electrical box location.

If you're running cable through a basement or crawl space,

drill a hole in the bottom plate directly below the box.

Feed your fish tape into the wall opening, pushing it up into the hole

you made in the top plate.

If you're running a cable through a basement or crawl space,

push it down to the hole in the bottom plate.

You can use the end of a coat hanger to pull the end of the fish tape

through the hole.

Step six.

Running cable past a fire block.

A fire block is a horizontal beam of wood running between the wall studs.

You can drill a hole through them or create a notch

to accommodate your wire.

To drill a hole, insert a long, flexible drill

bit through the opening for the electrical box

and position it on the center of the fire block.

Then drill through the fire block.

To cut a notch cut into the drywall at the location of the wall block.

Then use a sharp chisel and a hammer to cut a 3/4 inch wide by one inch

deep notch in the fire block as a conduit for the cable.

Pull the cable past the fire block.

After you have fished the cable through the notch,

cover the notch with a metal nail plate to protect the cable from nail damage.

Then patch over the drywall hole.

Step seven.

Pull the cable through the wall.

From the attic, basement, or crawl space,

use electrical tape to secure one end of the cable to the hook on the fish tape.

At the wall opening, steadily retract the fish tape,

pulling the cable into the wall opening.

Be careful not to create friction.

This might damage the cable sheathing.

It also avoids making kinks that could damage the wire.

And there you have it, running wire made easy.

Now before you start running wire yourself,

make sure you have all the items you need.

For tools, you'll need a stud finder, a voltage tester, drywall saw, fish tape,

chisel, level, a cordless drill including a 1/8 drill

bit and a 1/2 inch drill bit.

If you don't have a cordless drill, they're

available to rent at The Home Depot Tool Rental Center.

For materials, you'll need some guide wire.

Got any questions?

Head over to your local Home Depot and spark up a conversation

with the handy folks in the electrical department.

GENDERS* | TRANS WEB SERIES | EPISODE 4 - Duration: 10:19.

My name is Lucas. I'm 19 years old. Personal pronoun: "he".

What's new is that I recently had my first psychological conversation.

So, I'm Sebastian, student, and... with me there's nothing new.

My name is Mel, I don't use pronouns at all, I'm genderqueer.

I'm 22 and I study German Studies here in Cologne.

Last week I came out to an old friend from school and her reaction was really positive.

I felt so relieved.

I'm not even sure if I want to take testosterone.

I was undecided about that for a long time, too.

But that's why I decided not to eventually.

You know, I'm not even sure if I feel like a guy 100 per cent.

Those two things don't necessarily correlate.

Yes okay, let's meet then.

- Hi!- Hey, finally got time for us again?

Yes... I was going to talk to you about that anyway.

I met somebody.

What do you mean?

I've got a new girlfriend.

But I didn't introduce her yet. Well, because... she doesn't know I'm trans.

Okay, so did you think I was going to tell her instead or...?

No!

It's just that... well, if she finds out about my best friend being trans...

She could've realized something.

And I mean, you obviously don't try to keep people from knowing.

Oh, should I?

No! Duh, I don't know..

Your last girlfriend wasn't supposed to know I'm trans either.

I live stealth! I don't want everyone to know!

Oh, come on...

Excuse me, that's the men's bathroom!

- Yes, I'm good here.

The women's bathroom is over here!

Was that a man or a lesbian?

[laughter]

You're really good at cooking!

Thank you.

Do you want more?

Uhm, yes, a little.

Thanks.

Uhmm, I was going to tell you something actually ...

I really like you and that's why I want to be honest with you.

I am trans.

You... want to be a woman?

No, umm... I'm "ftm", that is female-to-male.

I'm a man but...

I was born "in the wrong body".

Tell me, are you kidding me right now?

No, uhm...

I wanted to tell you that early on originally. But I just didn't know how.

Okay.

Do you have...

Have you already ...

... had transformation surgery?

No, I didn't have sex reassignment surgery, yet.

Oh, that explains a lot...

Yes...

I'm done.

Hey, only so you'll know...

It doesn't change anything.

Thank you.

["You are trans?? Does that mean you've got a pussy??!!"]

Ilona Sola - Stain on the Floor (Behind the Scenes) - Duration: 5:53.

We planned the video scenes and the storyline together with Tuomas Hautamäki.

He also directed and edited the video.

We had never met before shooting the video.

I just frankly called him, told him my ideas

and then we planned the rest of the video via Messenger and such.

Then I simply booked flights to Oulu (a town in Northern Finland) for me and one of my assistants.

We were able to use my friends' house in Oulu, where we shot the video.

All the scenes have been shot in the living room and the bathroom of the house.

All right, here we are starting the day by doing the make-up. Or making of. Or making up?

I should lift my hands?

Into which direction, sides?

But I feel stupid like that

You can try to move the hands fairly dramatically

Moving the hand cross Ilona´s face looked good.

Hi Ilona, what are you doing there?

Well, I´m trying to sit comfortably on this freaking chair, like Tuomas asked me to.

But my legs are too big!

Well, I guess you are ready to suffer a bit in order to make a good video :D

Camera on.

And... you can start.

Shit, sorry

Camera on.

And.. Could you Ilona lift the arm, please?

And.. ready to go!

Wow, that may have actually worked!

These chess piece used in the video were made of glass,

which turned out to be a bit of a challenge

when shooting this scene where I slam the whole thing into the floor

We shot the scene twice

and after the first shot some of the chessmen were headless.

But Tuomas managed to use some glue to get them into shape again.

And next in a row: The window scene.

Hopefully the final result looks better than this..

Now it feels more natural, thanks!

Could you push me and the camera this time?

Joni, what do you have in your hands?

Shit, mainly. Love it.

Time for some limbo..

Should you try putting your legs on top of it?

How are you feeling there, Ilona?

How often have you been lying on the bathroom floor in this kind of circumstances?

Well, surrounded by three men? Not that often, no.

Is Joni ready?

I need a moment.

Yeah, tho whole video was shot during one day.

If you are not familiar with Tuomas´s Youtube channel, check it out (Tribane86)

There are a lot of cool video projects there.

And if you haven´t seen the actual music video of Stain on the Floor, you can watch it here.

5 Tips On How To Manage Stress // College Student Advice - Duration: 9:43.

there's a whole lot of change going up in here, so I'm going to try and get

through this introduction quickly so that we can get into the main topic of

the video which is stress for those of you who don't know my name is Grace Lyra

and this is a health and fitness channel. If you haven't seen any of my other

videos, you should definitely go check those out. I'm new to YouTube so there

aren't that many. But the gist is I have Crohn's disease and that is why I've

created this YouTube channel to share my tips and experiences in starting a

healthy lifestyle. So I moved! I am currently in Davis, California, I

transferred up to the University of California at Davis, I was previously

living at home going to Community College and I absolutely love it here I

could not be happier with my choice to come to UC Davis. Which explains my

hiatus from YouTube, I moved up here in late September and I have not filmed

since and there are many reasons why but the main one is I wanted to fully

integrate into the community here and into the school. I wanted to focus on my

classes, meeting new people, joining clubs and getting involved on campus and I

didn't want YouTube to detract me from that. We are going into our last week of

instruction before finals and I feel like I have fully settled into the

school and the community so I am so happy to be in front of the camera I've

been itching to create content for you guys. Which also means this is a very

busy time of the year for me and my fellow University students. Finals are

approaching which is why I wanted to take the time to sit down and talk about

stress. Whether you hopped on the study train early or you are currently

cramming for your exams finals are stressful and this is why I thought this

would be a great time to share my tips and tricks on how I manage stress.

Stress management is especially important for me because I have Crohn's disease and

because it is an autoimmune disease and stress directly impacts your immune

system the two biggest triggers for Crohn's

attacks are food and stress. Food is something that I have done to a system I

am very conscientious of everything that I put into my body I'm fortunate enough

to have a kitchen here at school so I cook my breakfast lunch and dinner everyday

but stress is something that I've noticed that I've had to pay a lot more

attention to and work on this last quarter.

I am never not busy I am constantly juggling classes, extracurriculars, what little social life

I can fit in, exercising, cooking for myself, it's a lot and it can get really overwhelming

but when I let the stress get to me I have a pretty immediate

physiological response and it affects the way I feel.

So that is why stress management for me is so important

so these are the five things that I have found help most when managing stress

number one be aware of your breath

the very first thing I do when I start feeling stressed is I sit up straight

and I take five deep cleansing breaths I breathe in through my nose until I can't

take in any more air and let it out slowly through my mouth and I do five

deep cleansing breaths and I cannot tell you how much of a difference this makes

sometimes just this alone can help clear your mind and relieve you of some stress

it has been scientifically proven because when you get stressed

stress hormones have an effect on your cardiovascular and your respiratory system

so when you take in deep breaths you are expelling the hormones

throughout your blood and it helps you feel a little less stressed

my next tip is identifying what causes you stress.

Now this one may seem a little duh, but sometimes we get so stressed out

and so worked up that we don't even know why

so when I feel stressed after I take my five deep breaths

I sit there and I think "okay what is causing my stress?"

Is it one big thing where it's mere presence is just so intimidating

and you don't know how to tackle it

or is it a bunch of little tasks where you don't know where to start, what to do first

simply identifying the 'what' can help you compartmentalize and change your mindset

separating your life from the tasks that you have to do and realizing that these are two separate things

separating yourself from the external factors that are causing you stress

can help you better attack all the tasks and the things that you have to do

that are causing your stress

which brings me to my next point which is get organized

I know for me personally it is hard for me to remember everything that I have to do

so I have to physically write it down and get a mental representation of

everything that I have to do

the more stressed we get the more frantic and foggy -minded we are

and the more likely we are to forget something on our to-do list so

I have a planner to stay organized so I can visualize and spread things out

throughout the week so I can see how much time I have to work on things

and this helps make it seem a lot less daunting and a lot more manageable

spreading things throughout the week also allows me to see when I have free

time in my schedule when I have gaps so that I can go and relax go see friends

or go to the gym

which brings me to my next point which is get moving

this is so so so important do not neglect exercising especially when you are stressed

I know that when you have a big to-do list spending your precious time

at the gym may seem like the least productive thing to do

but actually exercising is one of the number-one best ways to reduce stress

exercising releases endorphins which have a whole slew of physiological and psychological benefits

it improves alertness, concentration, overall cognitive function

it's a great mood booster, it energizes you, it helps your immune system

which is especially important for me

and it boosts your metabolism which helps with appetite

I know some people when they get stressed out they either forget to

eat or they don't get hungry

personally, I don't get that, that's never happened to me because

I have a bottomless pit as a stomach, and I'm kind of always hungry

like I'm hungry right now

but regardless for those of you who struggle with that,

it helps your appetite

the point is exercising is great for reducing stress

and you don't have to go to the gym for a long time

you don't have to do a full workout to get these benefits

studies show that even doing five minutes of exercise

can help reduce symptoms of stress and anxiety

so take a quick study break, step away from your desk for a minute

even walk around the library, do some jumping jacks, or if you have the time in space

go on YouTube and do a quick 10 minute hiit workout, or look up a yoga routine or even a guided meditation

all of these things can help you clear your mind and relieve some stress

and lastly, but probably the most important tip of all,

is get enough sleep.

I took a physiological psychology course last year

and our professor outlined how pulling all-nighters and cramming does not work

to sum up the process into simple terms, when you are studying

you are introducing new information into your brain

which your brain stores in short-term memory

this gets transferred into your long-term memory while you sleep

and more specifically during the REM stage of sleep, which is rapid eye movement

and it is the deepest and the last stage of sleep in your sleep cycle

if you don't get enough quality sleep you are much less likely to be able to use what is called memory recall

or just remembering things that you've learned

so basically if you stay up all night studying and cramming

it's in one ear out the other, your brain is not going to be able to

successfully retain the information

other than just your memory sleep effects pretty much everything in your whole body

lack of sleep can also directly weaken your immune system

which is super important for me because I have Crohn's

so I make sure to get at least eight hours a night

which can be really hard at times, but it is recommended to

get at least eight to nine hours of sleep

it is so important to make sleep a priority

everyone loves sleeping, just we don't always have the time for it

there aren't enough hours in the day, but it's also important to take into account

that sleep affects everything, and you will be more productive if you get more sleep

just go to bed

and that is it those are my five tips to help better manage your stress

I hope they were helpful and I want to thank you guys so much for watching

I am so happy to be back in front of the camera and creating content for you guys
