Waching daily Dec 18 2017

Hi there.

I am John Bond from Riverwinds Consulting and this is Publishing Defined.

Today I am going to talk about crowdfunding and scholarly publishing.

To start, crowdfunding in general means the practice of funding a project by raising small

amounts of money from many people, usually online.

Crowdfunding is an offshoot of crowdsourcing which is a sourcing model in which individuals

or organizations use contributions from online users to obtain services or ideas.

In 2015, it was estimated that worldwide over US $34 billion was raised via crowdfunding.

Crowdfunding in publishing occurs when an individual wants to publish something, and

they reach out via a site like Kickstarter or Indiegogo to interested supporters.

To date, this model has been used more with book publishing then other forms of publishing,

but this surely will change.

Also, it has mostly been applied to trade publishing versus scholarly publishing.

Aside from funding sites such as Kickstarter and Indiegogo, there are other companies or

sites that more directly target publishing and crowdfunding.

Among them are Inkshares, Unbound, Publishizer, Unglue.it.

Many people or groups work under the crowdfunding model as follows: an author or organization

develops pitch materials for their idea such as a proposal and a video, they post on one

of these sites and connect with people or funders, when they hit the appropriate funding

levels, they produce/publish their work, and then the funders receive some reward for their

support.

There are many reasons people might fund a project.

The most common is reward based whereby the participant might get a free book or subscription

or some kind of swag.

Others may have to do with having stake or equity in the project.

This model will inevitably expand more into scholarly publishing.

A recent post online discussed funding research via crowdfunding.

Of course it will be important to ensure funders don't influence the research or content

of the publication.

I saw information on a new venture called ScholaryHub.

They launched a crowdfunding campaign to get their new venture up and running.

There are building "a new, multi-disciplinary open-access platform for scholarly communications

that aims to boost interaction among scholars and enhance their ability to share their work

with the public at large, free from the constraints placed by publishing conglomerates and myopic

government policies."

I am sure more such efforts to start a new venture in scholarly publishing via crowdfunding

will only grow.

Well that's it.

I've released a new eBook called, "Scholarly Publishing: A Primer."

It is a short, focused guide on some of the essential topics that are integral to academic

publishing.

It was born out of videos on this channel.

Meme Run: The Story of Wii U's Weirdest Release - Duration: 9:12.

Hey, as we close out 2017 I figured I'd do my avatar update a bit earlier than usual,

so I added in glasses to more reflect my actual look, since I'm actually going to be making

on-screen appearances in my videos from now on.

Well then, I sure hope what I'm about to cover is so great that it justifies me being

on camera for the first ti-

Have you ever looked out the vast horizon, admiring this world and all the wonderful

things that exist in it, and then thinking to yourself, in this amazing and beautiful universe

why did MEME RUN HAD TO EXI-

Alright, let's slow things down a bit here and take a trip back to 2014.

The Wii U's signs of failure were beginning to show after a drought of quality software

between its launch and 2013, outside of Nintendo's once-in-a-while offerings.

But 2014 marked an attempt to reverse that trend with more popular titles being released

like Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros., and do I need to say that that year's E3 might

be one of Nintendo's best?

We got the announcements of big games like Splatoon, Super Mario Maker, our first glimpses

at Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Star Fox Zero, the introduction of amiibo, Pac-Man

and Miis were confirmed for Smash Bros., and all topped off with one of Nintendo's most

hilarious presentation skits to date.

"Come on Reggie, give us Mother 3!"

"How about this, instead?"

In a time where very little people bought the Wii U because they thought it was a pricey

add-on for the Wii, these announcements brought hope to the Nintendo fans who owned one as

they solidified the fact that despite its low sales, they can still look forward to

quality software being released.

…and then Meme Run showed up.

*sigh*

Okay, I'm not saying that this game single handedly put the final nail on the Wii U's

coffin, there's loads of other factors into why it failed, but the Internet had basically

a bit of a freakout when it was announced on September 2014 by Ninja Pig Studios, an

indie studio led by one college student named Jordan Schuetz, who has been developing games

since he was 16.

And yeah, Meme Run isn't Jordan's first offering if you haven't realized.

Prior to that, his studio released IQ Test on the Wii U eShop, a barebones low budget

impossible-quiz type game, as well as other simple games like Tiny Birds for other platforms.

Surprisingly, he's also made educational software, such as an HTML and CSS programming

tutorial that is being adopted by the University of California Riverside, so clearly this guy

knows what he's doing.

He's passionate about game development, attends developer conferences and meet-ups,

and is hoping to support his education through his hobbies so good for him.

But out of all the possible game ideas in the world, why would he choose:

In an interview with Nintendo News, Jordan says that the game's primary inspiration

is from the Montage Parody subreddit, which as the name suggests, is a subreddit all about

editing videos in comedic ways, a.k.a. injecting memes.

What memes, you ask?

We'll get to that in a moment but suffice to say, people were NOT buying this game's concept,

and are even appalled that this game was able to proudly bear Nintendo's Seal of Quality.

Jordan only had one thing to say.

"Most of the people criticizing Meme Run secretly enjoy it, but just don't want to admit it."

So then, let's take a look at the actual game itself.

Welp, here we go.

Meme Run by NInja Pig Studios.

Let's do this.

So…Meme Run.

A procedurally generated endless runner where you control a troll-faced stick figure as

he runs across a landscape of Lennys accumulating Swag points, all the while all kinds of memes

litter the screen as a means of distraction.

Airhorns, Wombo Combos, the Illuminati…look, I'm not gonna dissect each and every reference

in this game since I'm not Know Your Meme and taking apart memes is about as much fun

as Working Dough 2, so let's just get down to the fundamentals.

You can jump to cross gaps, slide to go past ceilings, and uh, yeah that's it.

There's also an alternate mode added in as part of a later update where you can play

as Bigley, a character based on the 'Ridley is too big' meme, with advice animals in

the background, but in the end, at the most basic level, Meme Run is a generic endless

runner with all sorts of screen distractions and blaring noises.

And to be honest, I'll give it to Jordan.

I don't think I've ever seen a runner game where the primary obstacle is literally

designed to distract you and cause your death, but with these kinds of memes inserted into

it, it's just deliberately designed to be annoying.

And yes, you're encouraged to grab these pickups as they're technically power-ups

that add a modifier to your swag count, but still I doubt anyone would find

that add a modifier to your score count, but still I doubt anyone would find

a lot of fun in constantly dying over and over to annoying and dated Internet jokes.

And uh, don't even get me started on the Miiverse community.

When Meme Run was announced, Jordan became a verified user on Miiverse which allowed

him to post on special pages and advertise his games, which definitely attracted more

attention to Meme Run.

While Miiverse has been shut down, the posts in the Meme Run community were uh…definitely

something to say the least.

I mean, Jordan and his friends definitely got a kick out of making and playing the game

so good for them, and you could argue that the whole point of this game is to stay focused

despite all these loud obnoxious distractions, but even if you look at the basic core gameplay,

there are still a lot of places that are unpolished.

The controls get unresponsive especially when you drop down to a ledge and jumping across

gets nearly impossible, and I've counted several times where I literally passed through

the floor and died.

The thing is, even if what you're looking for is a cheap, basic endless runner where

all you do is jump at the right time, the Wii U eShop has so many better alternatives,

not-don't pick this mess.

At a price of 5 dollars, Meme Run is absolutely NOT worth it.

It is simply a testament to the lack of quality control on the Wii U eShop, which is where

most of the controversy surrounding it was targeting.

Look, I'm all good with new indie developers trying their best to develop their first game

and getting it published on a Nintendo platform, it must be a dream come true for them to publish

their games on a Nintendo console.

But A: Jordan has clearly had development experience, B: Meme Run is deliberately made

to be low quality and C: The fact that Nintendo approved a duct-taped amalgamation of Internet

memes to be published on their online store is simply head-scratching to many.

Even Jordan responded to this by saying in his interview, "Nintendo approved my title

since they realize I'm targeting an untapped market and I'm providing a title that is

new and innovative."

Yeaaah, I won't be surprised if he exaggerated things a bit.

It wasn't until the creator of the trollface filed a takedown notice for the use of his

creation without permission, that Nintendo finally realized "Oh yeaaah, Internet memes

contain all sorts of copyrighted material.

Also there's Illuminati references in this game."

Anyway, after that takedown notice, Meme Run disappeared from the Wii U eShop without a trace.

Jordan tried to bring the game to Steam Greenlight which ended in a complete failure, and then

released a different game for the Wii U in 2016 called Bigley's Revenge, a shooter

where you shoot…Bigleys…with more…meme references. Yay.

Needless to say, after the Meme Run fiasco, people were getting sick that they were being

charged real money to buy another poorly-made meme fest, and afterwards Ninja Pig Studios

just kinda faded into the darkness and they haven't had a new release since.

But hey, Bigley's Revenge is still on the Wii U eShop as of this video!

…please don't buy it are you out of your mind

So, what's next for Jordan Schuetz and Ninja Pig Studios?

Well, who knows.

I certainly hoped they learned from this experience and use their development skills to make games

with proper effort placed in them, but perhaps they'll continue to go along the meme-infested

path for all the publicity, even though there are much better ways to pay for your tuition

while also benefitting your costumers.

As for Nintendo, hopefully their quality standards have been raised since then.

Sure, you still get the occasional bombs like Vroom in the night sky on the Switch, but

I'm sure we won't be seeing anything remotely close to the terrible designs of Meme Run.

For now, it'd be best if this game was simply left to be forgotten in the sands of time.

Which it was going to be, but then I made this video, so…shoot.

Anyway, that's Meme Run, the Wii U eShop release that angered the Internet.

Let's just hope that this is the only time we'll see "dank memes" being thrown

together into a sloppy package and then sold on Nintendo's online stores.

Let's hope.

And with that, I'll catch you guys later in my next video.

Don't forget to rate this video 8/8, no b8 m8…

Bake and Decorate a Buche De Noel - Duration: 9:49.

Hi and Merry Christmas everybody. This is my Bush de Noel this year. This is my

design for 2018 and I have a video for you that shows you how to make all these

little beautiful buttercream decorations. My recipe remains the same, it's a

chocolate sponge roll and it's got a little bit of cinnamon in it and mocha

filling and chocolate buttercream on the outside. So let's get started I'm going

to show you the whole recipe from start to finish.

You will need cake flour for this chocolate sponge cake recipe. If you

don't have cake flour in the house you can make your own cake flour like I did

by replacing two tablespoons of regular all-purpose flour with two tablespoons

of cornstarch per cup. Use a 13 by 9 inch sheet pan or close to that measurement.

Grease the pan with shortening, line the bottom with waxed or parchment paper,

grease the paper and dust with cocoa. You will need four eggs,

five tablespoons of cake flour, 1/3 cup of cocoa, 1/8 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1/4

teaspoon of salt, 1/2 a teaspoon of baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon of baking

soda, 3/4 cups of sugar divided into 1/2 and 1/4 cups, one teaspoon of vanilla.

Separate the yolks from the whites being careful not to get any of the yolk into

the whites. Place the whites into a clean bowl with a whisk attachment. Start it at

medium and whisk until frothy. Add half a cup of sugar and beat until stiff peaks

form and its shiny but not dry. While the egg

whites are beating mix together the flour the spices and the cocoa.

When the egg whites are finished put them into a large bowl, no need to clean

the bowl for the next step. Put the egg yolks (sorry not whites).... into the bowl and set it to

medium while adding the 1/4 cup sugar.

Beat until the mixture is light in color and forms ribbons on itself. Now fold the

egg whites and yolks (sorry again...I meant to say yolks) and the vanilla and a small amount of the dry

ingredients gently together.

Continue adding the dry in small amounts until

all the ingredients are incorporated. This could take a while. (a few minutes)

just be patient and be gentle with it and eventually it will come together.

Now scrape this into the pan and gently spread it as evenly as you can without

overworking it.

Bake your sponge cake at 325 (325 Convection) or 350 regular oven Farenheit for 15 minutes.

While your cake is baking prepare a tea towel with sifted cocoa. When the cake comes out flip it onto the

tea towel. Remove the wax paper carefully and then roll it up to cool completely.

Once cooled you can unroll and fill your sponge cake with a thin layer of either

buttercream, whipped cream, chocolate mousse or any kind of mousse. Roll it

back up releasing it from the towel. At this stage you can enjoy it as it is or

decorate it like I do in the next part of the video. Make all of your

buttercream decorations and freeze them ahead of time. Begin with the mushroom

caps. I used a red and a little black to get

this color. I also used a number 12 Wilton round tip, you could use whatever

size you want depending on how big you want your mushrooms. Simply squeeze the

bag and let the buttercream build up and then start to pull up and release as you

turn the nail slightly. I made six of these mushrooms. For the fan mushrooms on

the log use a number 104 petal tip. Fill your bag with white and a little brown.

With the wide end on the nail squeeze and move the thin end of the tip in a

clockwise motion. If you're left-handed you would go counterclockwise. It's

basically a little ruffle but with an arch. For the stem of the toadstool pipe

shapes that are similar to a cone. Flatten it a little bit on top much like

the mushroom caps. These are basically just little platforms to put the top of

the mushroom cap on. Pop the mushroom caps onto the stems and then freeze them.

For the pinecones first make the cones as you did with the mushroom caps and

stems, freeze them and then pipe tiny scales using either a small petal tip or

a mum tip number 81. I do have a couple of pinecone tutorials

so I will link to those for you in the comment box. Enjoy the rest of the video

as I put all the pieces together and at the end you'll see me slicing the cake

so you can see what the inside of this really beautiful cake looks like.

Have a Merry Christmas and thanks for watching.

Leave me a comment and please don't forget to subscribe if you haven't

already, and click the little notification bell so you'll be notified

Diddy wants to buy the Carolina Panthers - Duration: 0:31.

Sean "Diddy" Combs has announced he's interested in buying the Carolina Panthers.

The current owner said he will sell the team after news broke he's being investigated by

the NFL for misconduct.

Based on his Instagram post Sunday, Combs seems to be motivated by the chance to be

the only African-American majority owner in the league.

Soon after the rapper's announcement, NBA star Stephen Curry said he wants a stake.

Combs said if he does buy the team, he'd put Colin Kaepernick in the running to be the

Panthers' starting quarterback.

Popular Baby Names No One Heard Of 5 Years Ago - Duration: 4:31.

Some of the most popular baby names of today were actually pretty uncommon just five years

ago.

While some of these names were never trendy in past eras, others are tried-and-true classics

that had fallen out of use before making a comeback.

Is your baby's name on this list?

Eleanor

A popular name for centuries, Eleanor can be traced back to at least the 12th century

when it was used by the legendary royal Eleanor of Aquitaine.

Five years ago, Behind the Name ranked Eleanor the 135th most popular name in the United

States, but today it has seen a huge surge in popularity, coming in at number 41 — the

highest it's ranked since the Great Depression.

Paisley

Originally a Scottish last name, Paisley didn't even turn up on name charts until 2006 when

0.016 percent of baby girls were given the name.

Even five years ago, the name had yet to break the top 100, but now it's ranked number 46.

Prince's song "Paisley Park" could have been part of the influence, or maybe we can thank

country sensation Brad Paisley's fans for helping the name trend.

Whatever the reason, Paisley's popularity as a name proves that it's more than just

a design pattern.

Willow

This is a name that has really only been used in recent years — it's ranking can only

be traced back to 1998.

It started gaining notable traction as a name shortly after the hit show Buffy the Vampire

Slayer debuted in the late '90s.

The show featured a character named Willow, and it seems people were fans of both the

show and the name.

Since then, the name has slowly started to climb the charts, and today it's ranked 96th.

Clara

Wildly popular in the early 20th century for girls, Clara has long been considered old-fashioned.

After the Great Depression, the name's popularity began to plummet and the once-popular name

fell into relative obscurity.

It has once again begun trending, now coming in at number 99.

The name is even more popular in Europe, where it is currently the 8th most popular female

baby name in Denmark.

Mila

This name has made huge strides up the ranks in recent years, probably gaining mainstream

notoriety thanks to the mega-popularity of actress Mila Kunis.

It ranked for the first time since the 19th century in 2006 at number 744, and jumped

up hundreds of points over subsequent years.

Five years ago, it was ranked 115th, and now it's in the top 50 names at number 48.

Leo

While the name Leo has been used for centuries, it's been a long time since it's been as popular

as it is today.

Leo means "lion" in Latin, so it makes sense that generations of parents wanted their babies

to have this strong name.

It's been the name of more than a dozen popes, as well as several emperors and kings.

Perhaps because of its long history, the name fell out of favor for decades, but has made

an extraordinary comeback and is now ranked 74th.

Ezra

The name Ezra means "help" in Hebrew and has Biblical roots.

It might seem like an old-fashioned name, but according to the name rankings, it's actually

trending like crazy.

Ezra is currently at number 85 — the most popular it's ever been, even going back to

when name rankings began in the late 19th century.

It's jumped almost a hundred spots in the last five years and looks like it will only

continue to move up on the list.

Penelope

In ancient times, Penelope was best known from Greek mythology as the wife of the hero

Odysseus.

Perhaps because of its old roots, the name was fairly uncommon over the past century.

The name emerged back into the top one thousand in 2001, but for the first time in recorded

history, it showed a steady upward trajectory.

Five years ago, the name wasn't in the top 100, but now it's the 27th most popular baby

name for girls.

It's no coincidence that the name showed notable growth in popularity after Keeping Up with

the Kardashians star Kourtney Kardashian named her baby Penelope in 2012.

Sawyer

Initially more common as a last name, Sawyer was most typically associated with the character

from Mark Twain's beloved classic The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.

It first broke the top one thousand as a first name for boys in 1991, but it's only in the

last couple of years that Sawyer has become popular, making its way into the top 100 for

the first time in 2015.

Even more interesting is its growing use as a gender neutral name.

While it's currently ranked as the 97th most popular boy's name, it's ranked number 246

for girls.

Harry Potter World of Wizardry GeekGear Unboxing July 2017 | GeekGlitz - Duration: 9:38.

Hello Lovelies, it's time for a GeekGear unboxing!

Welcome everyone.

My name is Mamta and this is my brand new channel GeekGlitz in which I talk about all

things geek and all things glitz.

I'm a huge potterhead, so I went ahead and signed up for my first ever Harry Potter themed

monthly subscription box.

It's called GeekGear, and it's a U.K. based subscription box company.

I chose the World of Wizardry box and this is the one in which they have various merchandise

from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts and a lot of these items

are exclusive just to GeekGear.

They do have a World of Wizardry wearable box in which they do all sorts of wearable

items and they also have a pins box in which they give four enamel pins

each month.

They've also got other GeekGear boxes in which you get various items from different fandoms

each month so not necessarily just Harry Potter themed.

I'll put all the information in the description so that you can check it out.

So let's get to the unboxing.

So here is the July 2017 box.

This is my first box from them though I have gotten a couple of items from their online

shop before that were items from previous boxes because I just wanted to get a feel

of what kind of items they had before deciding whether to subscribe or not, and I have decided to

describe so this is the July 2017 box.

I think the details on this box is pretty awesome.

So it's got like World of Wizardry written in the front and if you see the background

is all like Harry Potter glasses and the lightning bolt which looks amazing.

It says "No Muggles Allowed" right here which is pretty cute.

On the sides, it's got like Ravenclaw, Slytherin and Hufflepuff and Gryffindor crests, so it's

quite nice and I like the way it really looks.

I like anything in black so yeah this works.

It seems like there's a pull tab here which is pretty cool, uh you could just open it

up.

I can't wait to get into this.

So the top is blue, blue, blue, blue.

So when you sign up for the box, you get to choose your house and since I'm a Ravenclaw,

I chose blue so that's why I get the blue tissue paper.

Gryffindors would get red, Hufflepuffs yellow, and Slytherins green.

So the first item I see is a T-Shirt and let's take this out.

So, it's a nice blue color and check it out.

Oh my god, oh my god, this is Pickett..

Pickett from the fantastic beasts movie, and he's in a little pocket and it says N.S. for

Newt Scamander.

Wow this is really cute.

This is a size XL, and oh I can't get over how cute this little Pickett is.

It's Pickett in a pocket, Pickett in a pocket.

So I love this shirt.

It's so cute.

I really like this color.

I tend to prefer darker colors but I think I'll make an exception for this one because

it's just amazing.

So the next item..oooh. it's probably a wand but I'm not sure whose wand it is.

Ok so here's the thing, I don't actually have a lot of wands.

I've got Hermione's wand which was also from GeekGear that I ordered from their online

shop and then I've got like another wand that's just a remote controlled wand, and that's

it.

That's the only two wands I've got and then now this one, so let's see whose it is.

So just open it up and it's got some black tissue paper, black tissue paper.

Ok, let's open this up.

And oh my god, it's Snape's wand.

I love the detail, check out this detail.

It's so great.

Snape's wand is actually one of my favorites.

It's like Hermione's and Snape's are both my absolute favorite wands.

This one is just so gorgeous.

It's very nice, black and it's got a nice weight to it.

I haven't actually touched any of the other wands from the Studio stores.

I'm not sure how this compares in terms of quality, but I am very satisfied with it because

I think it's a really good quality.

I really like the look of it and the feel of it.

It's so sleek and pretty.

I love it!

So let's see what's next...the next item, oh my god..

I think this is a medallion.

It's like a coin and it's like the Chamber of Secrets door with the snakes.

There's seven of them and I like the way they curve around in a circle.

It's so great.

Oh my god!

It's so like well made.

I got to open this up.

It comes in a clear plastic covering.

It's got a nice heavy weight to it.

I think I can use this as a paperweight or just even as a decorative piece because it's

just so beautiful.

I love it... very nice.

It's like metallic, good quality.

I like...

I approve, and now the next item is a pin.

Oh my god, I love enamel pins and this is Harry.

I love Harry woohoo Harry Potter, Harry Potter.

He's really cute.

He's got a little robe and it's in black and there's a broom in gold and there's a little

tiny Hedwig with him and I really like the style like of this type of Harry.

It's like really cute and it says World of Wizardry enamel pin GeekGear exclusive.

On the back, the back it says there's three different types.

There's a classic, there's a silver edition and then there's a gold edition.

You know, I think I might actually have the silver edition because he seems to be less

black, more silvery.

I think it's silver.

Ok so the classic is the most common one and silver is one in every fifty boxes get it

and then the gold is one in every hundred.

I like the silver.

I think it's really cute.

I think it's silver, pretty sure it is.

It also says that it's a set.

There's a set of enamel pins.

I do remember seeing that in the June box there was a Hagrid.

I didn't realize it would be a set, so we get Harry this time and then next box, probably

the August box, there will be one more person and I'm not sure who that will be.

That's going to be pretty cool to see who else is in this set, so I'm excited for that..excited

to receive this, and I really like this item.

Got a huge pin collection so I can't wait to add this in.

Next item...it's a bow tie, bow tie bow tie and it's in blue and silver for Ravenclaw.

I get blue so I'm sure the other houses have the other colors.

I don't actually wear bowties a lot though so maybe I might just add a clip to it like

a buckle or something and then I could make it a hair..hair tie..like a hair bow tie,

hair bow.

Is that what their called?

I can't remember.

Ok, but yeah on my hair, I think that would look pretty cute.

I like this, I like this.

It's really cute though.

And now the next item it's a little box.

So this is pretty cool, I wonder what's inside.

Finest Wizarding Outfitters est. 1468 so established 1468.

Let's see.

So there's like tissue paper, let's undo this.

Ok....I'm not sure what this is, let me just see.

Oh my god, oh my god it's Harry's glasses.

So it comes in a little ziplock bag.

Awesome. There's a little sign label that says UV400 protection.

This is really nice.

I like really like and it appears to be really well made too like it's not flimsy plastic.

I do have another pair of Harry's glasses that I got from some costume shop for like

really cheap in Hong Kong.

I think these are definitely more high quality than the one I have.

I'm going to go ahead and wear this.

You could like see the light reflecting off of it.

Got the grandma look on, got the Harry look on, and got the Oh I'm so fashionable look

on.

And I think now I'm at the last item.

Let's check it out.

It's a print.

Check this out, check this out.

It's the Niffler, oh from Fantastic Beasts.

I love this it's like a like a sketchbook drawing.

Then there's like a N.S. over there so it's supposed to be like it's drawn by like Newt

probably in his sketchbook.

It's so great, I love this print, it's so beautiful.

From what I know, I think GeekGear does prints in every box.

I've seen a couple of past videos and it seems they do a print.

So I'm excited to start receiving these.

It would be nice to have a collection of all these different prints, either put them up

somewhere or store them somewhere.

I love this, it's really cool.

Ah niffler!

So I think there is one last item and that's the booklet and I think every box receives

a booklet.

There's like a thank you note.

It tells you what's the items.

This is replica wand and it's thirteen and a half inches.

It's Snape's wand, but it doesn't say that and then there's Fantastic T-Shirt yup, a

Niffler print, Harry's glasses, the house color bow ties so yeah, you do see that you

get the other colors if you're in a different house... the serpent chamber coin and then

the exclusive enamel pin and then they've got their socials listed over here, telling

like a couple of prizes and stuff and items to do sometimes giveaways and stuff.

And the next box hint it's all the houses so maybe they'll have a house exclusive item.

Can't wait to check that out.

Oh and they do a YouTuber who does like unboxings and stuff.

This month it's MonaFelicis, so yay, nice I love this.

So my final thoughts, I think I really like this box and I'm probably going to continue to

do the subscription.

I think my favorite item from this box was the Harry enamel pin just because I love pins.

If you like this video, please give it a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel because I'll

be releasing videos every week and I'll be covering more things Harry Potter with product

reviews, unboxings, and hauls and other fandoms and then also I'll get into a bit of glitzy

stuff like fashion and maybe how the two combine so geek and fashion.

Please comment below and let me know which other Harry Potter themed subscription boxes

you guys subscribe to because I'd love to connect with other Potterheads.

You can also check me out on my other socials.

They're all listed down below.

Thanks for watching lovelies.

See you in the next video!

PUBG'S Uncertain Future - Duration: 5:31.

PUBG is pretty much indisputably the biggest multiplayer game of 2017, despite the fact

that it technically isn't even out yet.

It's got almost three times as many players as the next most played game on steam.

It's one of the most watched games on twitch.

And that popularity definitely isn't undeserved.

The game is absolutely full of brilliant design decisions.

The way that losing a match doesn't feel so bad because you can just immediately jump

into your next match moments after you die is genius.

The way that each level of armor has a silhouette that stands out at just a glance is incredibly

well done.

And the way Battlegrounds handles shooting is, in my opinion, just about perfect for

a game in its genre.

Weapons are intuitive and accurate enough that a new player can pick up a gun and shoot

reasonably straight, but having great aim still affords you a sizable advantage.

That's not to say that the game is absolutely flawless, it's suffered from some pretty

bad networking issues and rampant cheating.

But on the whole, Battlegrounds is a strong game.

That's why it's not the actual 'game' part of PUBG that concerns me, the game is

definitely solid.

It's more about the way the game has been treated by those behind the scenes.

Microsoft got an exclusivity deal to bring the game to the Xbox One wayback when, despite

the fact that I really don't think a game like PUBG would be particularly enjoyable

on a controller.

Then things.. kind of started to change.

Updates became less and less frequent until they put updates on hold entirely for 11 weeks

so that they could finish up for a full 1.0 release.

That... just so happened to be when the game would be coming to xbox one and XBOX ONE X.

What a coincidence.

A little while before this 11 week update drout I noticed something.

I typically have an xbox controller plugged into my PC that I use for games like rocket

league, and I noticed that there was a controller interface that would appear when my controller

was plugged in.

That interface is the exact same one that came out in the console release.

It's been in the pc version for several months.

In fact, the XBOX ONE version is so similar to the PC version… that I can't find any

real differences!

You'd think that, what with PUBG being a bit infamous for its performance issues, a

good part of those 11 weeks would see a reasonable amount of effort devoted optimising the game

for console.

Apparently, that didn't happen.

It practically seems like all they did is use the unreal engine's built-in compiler

to compile it for XBOX ONE.

PUBG's console port is in a pretty embarrassing state, especially since it was originally

claimed it would run at 60 fps on the Xbox One X.

On the original Xbox One, PUBG looks ugly as sin, while still running at an oftentimes

unplayable framerate.

To think that this unholy abomination you're seeing now is Microsoft's killer app really

makes me wonder how anyone could see this as anything but a cynical cash grab.

What they've done is rush a port of PATHETIC quality to cash in on the hype of the most

played game on PC.

You'd think that, having sold millions of copies, a company like Bluehole would be devoting

a fair amount of resources to making sure their console launch went off without a hitch.

Instead, PUBG's transition to console has been anything but graceful.

This isn't the first time the game's developers have pushed it into something before it was

ready.

The game was touted as "esports ready" while playing the game felt like you were

made out of flubber.

This was such a laughable claim, that sarcastically calling the game 'esports ready' became

a common joke in the community.

But that hasn't deterred the devs from really, really pushing esports before the game is

even considered to be out of early access.

Trying to show the game off and having it backfire certainly doesn't help the game's

reputation in the competitive scene.

But it doesn't end there.

Bluehole has continued shoot themselves in the foot by threatening their competition

with 'legal action' over the fact that both games have a battle royale mode, despite

the fact that PUBG isn't the first game to have this mode, and that the gamemode title

is directly lifted from a Japanese film.

Oh, and they said lootboxes wouldn't be in the game until after Early Access, and

then immediately put lootboxes in the game.

And last but not least, Bluehole has given some pretty obvious preferential treatment

to streamers in the past.

Players were infamously banned for quote-un-quote "stream sniping" based on accusations

alone.

Needless to say, revoking a customer's ability to play a game that they paid for based solely

on the word of an online entertainer is completely unacceptable.

PUBG is really fun.

The game very clearly has a brilliant creative vision behind it, and a team of talented developers

to realize it.

If it didn't, Battlegrounds wouldn't be the biggest game in the world at the moment.

But in order for PUBG to stay at the top, and not be overtaken by one of the Triple-A

competitors that are inevitably coming, Bluehole needs to get their act together.

3 Reasons The Jedi Mindset Sucks - Duration: 8:01.

Star Wars is often referred to as a classic good-versus-evil story

and it's easy to see why when you have bad Sith characters that say and do things like this.

Unlimited power!

Opposing the Sith are the Jedi who seem like the obvious good guys

but if you dig into their belief system, there are serious problems

in the mindsets that they promote. In fact you could say that it's the Jedi teachings

that ultimately lead people like Anakin Skywalker to braking and turning totally evil.

That's why in this video I wanna break down the biggest flaws in the Jedi teachings

because you may have unthinkingly adopted these good guy teachings that can actually wind up destroying your life.

First off in the list of destructive mindsets is that the Jedi Order

seemed to expect emotional neutrality from their disciples.

They do not admit that even the Jedi feel fear.

Instead, they frame fear as an emotion that will inevitably lead to violence and suffering.

...everything. Fear is the path to the Dark side.

Fear leads to anger; anger leads to hate; hate leads to suffering.

I sense much fear in you.

Anakin internalizes this and learns to hide his obvious fear for his mother.

He knows that his fears make him a bad Jedi so he pretends to be emotionally blank.

You had another nightmare last night.

Jedi don't have nightmares.

I heard you.

...which brings me to my second point which is that the Jedi present the emotions

that lead to the Dark side and the Dark side itself as permanent states of being.

One slip into fear and the Dark side has you forever — Yoda even says so.

Anger, fear, aggression — the Dark side of the Force are they.

Easily they flow, quick to join you in a fight.

If once you start down the Dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will—

But this obviously isn't true — Luke struggles with Dark side temptations and doesn't give in,

Vader flips back at the end of his life, and even the Honorable Mace Windu decides he'll just go ahead and break the law to kill Palpatine.

The point is that the emotions that lead to the Dark side are clearly not permanent

or forever damning but the Jedi are so anti those emotions that paradoxically,

they create a culture of fear around being afraid.

That just serves to compound negative emotions more which is exactly what

Anakin Skywalker experiences; he hates the sandpeople who killed his mother

and then hates himself for feeling those things that he isn't supposed to.

To me, angry is to be human.

I'm a Jedi. I know I'm better than this.

And that brings me to my third point and the worst thing that the Jedi do in the name of the Light —

that is that they advise not-feeling as a method of resisting the Dark side; Obi-Wan states it flat out.

Bury your feelings deep down, Luke.

They do you credit but they could be made to serve the Emperor.

Anakin took this advice to heart and was able to bury his feelings deep down for many years

but sporadic outbursts from him show that burying is not the same as handling feelings appropriately.

Eventually, Anakin's fear, hate, and self-loathing couldn't be hidden anymore

and they boiled over creating Darth Vader.

This three-point strategy — of first, pretending to have no negative or conflicting feelings;

second, exaggerating the permanence of undesirable emotions;

and then third, shutting down your feelings as a method of resisting that Dark side — is actually what drives Anakin to the Dark side.

He had no outlet to properly express the conflict that he felt inside

so he kept it to himself, then it bubbled over, he committed these horrible atrocities,

and gave in totally; it's not that the Dark side was so wonderful but that the Light side was so messed up.

Now, this is a charisma YouTube channel so I want to take this back to your life

and take social anxiety as an example imagining that you tried to handle it like a Jedi

which is actually what many people do. So first, you would pretend

that you have no conflicting feelings; you pretend that you are always confident all the time in all situations.

Maybe you will pretend so well that you'll even convince a few other people.

Then, exaggerate the severity of any undesirable emotions so anytime that

you feel a hint of social anxiety, think of yourself as a failure and a coward.

Tell no one though because that would make you weak.

Lastly, shut down all those feelings of social feeling completely; bury them deep down as Obi-Wan says.

Now, what do you suppose would happen to a person who did that?

For a while, this person would probably be able to hold it together

and they keep that facade of confidence but on the inside, they probably feel a little bit like a fraud and they'd push that feeling down too.

Eventually, those feelings would probably become too much for them to handle and they'd start to self-sabotage in various areas

of their life because at a deep level, they didn't feel authentic.

Other people might think things were working but they'd know the truth.

And this is what so many people do despite the fact that it is obviously

a counterproductive strategy — same as it was for Anakin in the movies.

So what's the answer when it comes to feelings that are negative like social anxiety?

First, accept and admit your conflicting feelings.

There are situations in which you might feel anxious sometimes; welcome to being human.

Second, accept that those feelings of anxiety are not permanent and they never have been.

In fact, sometimes by leaning into your fear and doing things that made you feel afraid, you found that it wasn't so bad.

In mentally digging into your own anxiety and asking, "Why am I afraid? What's the thing that I'm trying to avoid deep down?"

you don't necessarily need to indulge in these things but by nquiring more into it, you actually make that fear dissipate.

Third is to allow yourself to fully experience whatever emotion you don't want.

Now, it's cliche but what you resist persists.

So take some time, just a little, to really feel how the anxiety affects every part

of your body from your breathing to maybe even your trembling hands

to your racing thoughts... whatever — when you just allow yourself to have this

experience of being afraid, it washes over you usually in short order.

And oddly enough, you are left with this sense of calm

because you just experienced the worst thing possible.

To reiterate, you don't have to dwell on it; just give yourself a moment or two to experience that thing that you're avoiding.

And starting from a baseline of acceptance of any and all feelings that you have, you can actually begin to shift them and that's really the point.

You have to be honest about how you feel in order to change how you feel.

Now, without realizing this, I kind of explained a similar technique way back

about a year ago in one of my more popular videos and I'll link to that so you can check it out.

So this video is really to make one simple but very important point —

if there's an emotion in your life that you don't want, denying it

and fighting it from the get-go will make it grow in subtle but profound ways.

You actually wind up thinking more about how to avoid it which keeps it constantly in your focus and creates more of it in your life.

Instead, try allowing that feeling, feel it, experience it, and then you can actually

let it go and focus on the feeling you'd like to feel instead; that's when you can change.

It works with all feelings from anger to anxiety... you name it.

To be clear, I'm not saying you have to live in the negative but

you will have to actually allow yourself to experience it for a moment.

Now, I cover this and much more in my new Emotional Mastery course

which I'm going to be launching next week and if you're interested in that,
