Here comes the intro!
Do you have your answer?
If you answered Japan, your answer is.......
Correct! o/
Brazil has 9 national holidays and Japan has 16!
Here's the list of the national holidays of each country.
However! There's a difference that here in Brazil,
besides the national holidays, we have also the state and municipal holidays.
Here in São Paulo, there's extra 6 holidays for example.
And we have the habit of amend the holidays, turning it into an extended holiday.
In Japan, tthere's also a memorial day for each province
but not all provinces actually celebrate it.
But Japan has in their holiday laws, 3 interesting systems that reminds the extended holidays in Brazil.
The 1st one is Happy Monday.
They moved some holidays to Monday so the population can rest for 3 consecutive days.
The 2nd one is the Make-up Holiday.
It reminds Happy Monday a little bit because when a national holiday falls on a Sunday,
the next working day shall become a public holiday.
It's so wonderful, right?
Unfortunately, we don't have it here in Brazil.
At last, there's the Population's Holiday.
Any normal day that falls between two other national holidays shall also become a holiday!
Of course the chance of it to happen is quite low,
and the only possibility would be on September,
when the autumnal equinox day and the respect for the aged day need to fall with 2 days of difference.
When it happens, this extended holiday is called Silver Week.
It can be called that way only if the holiday is actually of 5 consecutive days.
Like I said, it's something really rare to happen
and the next Silver Week is going to happen only in the year of 2026.
Besides Silver Week, Japan has also 3 other extended holidays.
Starting with the End/Beginning of the Year holiday.
The period of the holiday, tends to differ depending on each profession and company.
But on average, it's around from 29/12 to 03/01.
Then it comes the Golden Week.
There's all the holidays gathered from the end of April to the beginning of May.
The period of this holiday is usually from 29/04 to 05/05.
At last, there's All Soul's day.
Which are the dates that surround 15th of August.
Note that these days aren't national holidays
but everyone gets to rest to spend time with the family
and to honor the relatives that have passed away.
The priod of this holiday is usually from 11/08 to 16/08.
One of the reasons that Japan has many extended and national holidays
is because of the people who work, not taking their paid vacations properly.
It seems that people in Japan tend to use only 50% of their paid vacations,
which is 10 days out of 20 that they have the right.
While in Brazil, we have the right to take 30 days of paid vacations.
And it end up afecting them,,
causing physical and mental health problems.
Not to mention the deaths and suicides caused by overwork.
That's so tense,, right? x3
But how about you? How do you like to spend your holidays?
Let me know on the comment section! ^^
I hope you enjoyed this video and I'm counting on your presence on the next one, okay?
That's all for today's video.
