When we are talking about UI

the navigation is to direct where we are from one point to another
Nowadays is often used on the web or app is pagination
pagination dots that are often seen on a swipe screen
You can notice that, this is number one, this is number two, and number three
Without us having to write it down, the users can notice that there's something behind it
which will invite the users to take an action
Next is breadcrumds
Breadcrumbs is taken from hansel and gretel concept
Have you ever heard stories about hansel and gretel?
They left a breadcrumbs as a trail
Often you think the users already know
But I saw hundreds of websites everyday in Indonesia or everywhere
Event in other countries
What happened are
They forget to leave an updated information to users
So they made the users confused
That's what often happened
The users do not understand where they right now, whether it is still on the same website
That's also a big question
So sometimes, when they are creating architectural information for a website, they don't think about it
They made a sitemap, but they don't think about it
So they just make it anyway they like, but when they get into it, they didn't know how to get back
The UI element covers that as well
Not only good but also need a lots of thinking processes
then the frequent problem is breadcrumbs
And next is pagination
When we are talking about pagination, what often happened is there is a competion in a website
There is a lot of content that you want to include, so pagination dots become a lot
The purpose of pagination dots is to make something stand out
Meaning this is the focus for now
But because we can not refuse, as a decision maker, as product head, we put everything inside the banner
So it's no longer a unique thing, but it has become like a repository
Next is search field
For the search field, if you follow the guidelines from Apple or Google, there is already a way, you can just plug and play
It so easy, you can just put it there
But what is often forgotten is the intelligence behind the searching tool
If we are looking for something, as a new user on a website, can I write directly
The first is whether I can get a recommendation of what I am looking for
Meaning you have to cooperate with the database team, the business team
What we really want to show, what we want to sell
Then after we input the words
whether it should be the exact word or can give suggestion when the users input the wrong words
Next, when the users already get the result, is it match or not
That's the next problem, but we won't talk about it into detail right now
There is something I just learned, about a month ago.
There is a large search button
If I as a person who rarely use mobile phones
If I want to search, I immediately press the magnify glass image. I didn't think about anything else
I tried it with some people on the street. They immediately pressed that icon
But it can't be clicked
It turns out if you want to search, you should scroll back up
And it do not look like a search button
Or maybe you forgot the color of the search button
When you use Google, the search button is clearly visible in white color
If the search button and background have the same color, do you never notice that it is the search button?
Especially when the position is on the top
Sometimes that's what we think is a good thing
but in reality the users can not click it, search it, and know that its a search button. That's the problem
User's traction will decrease
We have to make sure, when people come to our website, what is their purpose on that page
As great as the UI element, but if the user can not reach its destination, it still fails
So if you think about UI, you should think of the tip of the iceberg
That's what it looks like, just a little bit. But actually it is very deep
Many things related to business decission, the results of user research
Many things related to critical thinking, how we should make architectural information
How we make interaction
How we use psychology to make the user think
All must be accountable
