Waching daily Sep 21 2017

Thanks for watching Lifetree Kids!

This is Max!

I believe I was put on this earth for reason.

You know, I wake up every morning just like everybody else.

My mom is the fabric that holds together everything.

My dad is like your family and your friend.

Then there's Jack.

So we're twins, and okay, how do I describe him?

He's like the brawn to my brain.

I have two dogs, two cats: Annabelle, Lucy, Cooper, and Tahoe.

Love them all.

But there's one more thing that you don't know about Max.

I love science.

I love inventing things.

So where I am right now is my lab.

Like if you were to do open heart surgery, like open up my heart, you'd find a miniature

room that's exactly like this.

Maybe it's a little bit bigger because it's kinda crowded in here.

I'm a scientist, inventor, artist, cuber.

What do I like about inventing?

Everything!

Well you see, inventing is a way for me to release my creativity, but the cool thing

about inventions is that you can invent from your mind.

You can take what's in your mind, put it on paper, take what's on that paper and make

it real.

Before Max starts on a new invention, he always draws out a plan on paper.

God has a plan for each of us!

In the Bible, book of Jeremiah chapter 29 verse 11 says, "'For I know the plans I have

for you," says the Lord."

Whether it's wondering if I can build a robot or maybe just conducing a Tesla coil so that

I can shoot electricity from my finger tips.

Max is very curious how things work.

Just look at all the cool inventions he created.

He collects all kinds of used things so that he can make cool inventions.

Max likes to come up with solutions that solve other people's problems.

I'm just a kid who wants to make the world a better place.

Just like God gave Max the gift to solve problems, God gave you special gifts.

God made you for a reason!

The Hardest Movies To Watch More Than Once - Duration: 6:03.

Even good Hollywood movies can be hard to watch twice.

In the case of these films, it's not bad writing or uninspired performances that make the movies

hard to screen a second time.

Rather, they're so depressing, shocking, or even terrifying that one cinematic exposure

to them is more than enough to last a lifetime.

In the case of these films, they're worth watching — but you probably won't want to

see them again after that.

Requiem For a Dream

This adaptation of Hubert Selby's novel is a brutal, bleak, and visceral film in which

Darren Aronofsky opens a window on the lives and experiences of four different drug addicts.

And that view is decidedly grim.

"I like thinking about the red dress and the television, and…"

The stunning visuals and harrowing story grab hold of you and don't let go for 101 excruciating

minutes.

It's a mind-bender of a film that will leave you depressed for days and seriously contemplating

your own bad habits.

Dogville

Lars Von Trier's movies all tend to fit in the category of just-one-timers, and that's

certainly the case with the second installment of his Land of Opportunity trilogy, Dogville.

This film, which is told in nine parts, chronicles the grueling experience of a woman who, on

the run from the mafia, decides to hide out in a rural town.

The residents agree to provide her shelter in exchange for her completing their various

low-level chores.

But her relationship with the town descends into unethical abuses of the woman, including

multiple sexual assaults — all very difficult to stomach the first time around, let alone

on a repeat viewing.

Passion of the Christ

Director Mel Gibson threw everything he had into this harrowing, vicious film about the

final days of Jesus Christ.

As the title indicates, it was meant to be a showcase of just how much grace and conviction

the religious figure showed in the face of extreme brutality from his executioners.

And while the film certainly did its job of reminding its intended audience of the sacrifices

Jesus endured, even viewers who might've revered its message the first time may have a hard

time bearing witness to the shocking level of violence again.

Bad Lieutenant

Onscreen sexual violence can be upsetting in virtually any form, but the sheer lechery

of the central character in Bad Lieutenant is especially difficult to observe.

The movie serves to ultimately exonerate the drug-addled, unpredictable officer.

But the journey to get to that point teems with tough material that includes the assault

of a nun and his use of authority to force two young women into a sexual act.

It's impossible to unsee the events of the movie — and hard to imagine voluntarily

watching them again.

Boys Don't Cry

Hilary Swank's Academy Award-worthy performance as Brandon Teena, a real-life transgender

man who was raped and murdered in 1993, was certainly groundbreaking, as it shed light

on an underexplored sector of hate crimes that were — and are still — being committed

against transgender individuals.

At the same time, it was also incredibly difficult to bear and probably counts for many as a

movie that's worth watching once … but maybe just the one time.

Irreversible

This 2002 French horror film tops many best and worst lists precisely because of how horrific

its lengthy and gratuitous rape scene is.

The film tells the reverse chronological story of a woman who is raped and beaten into a

coma by a notorious criminal.

And it includes several scenes of intense cruelty and graphic violence that makes it

almost unwatchable the first time around for any audience members with functional eyes.

We Need to Talk About Kevin

As prevalent as mass murder attacks might be in real life, it's still quite hard to

enjoy any piece of artwork that tries to synthesize the psyche and history of a young person who

commits these heinous acts.

In the case of We Need to Talk About Kevin, an all-star cast delivers sound, impactful

work to peel back the layers of life that led up to the title character's horrific actions.

"You did not."

That said, the movie is still difficult to process and might leave viewers feeling unfulfilled

and even more hopeless and confused than before.

Maybe that's the whole point — to highlight the sheer senselessness of it all — but

it's still hard to imagine working up an appetite to watch it again.

Precious

Based on the autobiographical novel Push by Sapphire, Precious made for incredible, indelible

cinema thanks to some blistering truth about a segment of society most people might not

understand.

The movie tells the story of a young girl whose life consists of parental abuse and

neglect first, poverty second, and whose struggle to survive the mean streets and her even meaner

home life is a daily battle.

Anyone who's seen it no doubt walked away a little different than they came in … if

unwilling to watch it again.

"You ain't gonna see me no more."

Blue Valentine

Derek Cianfrance's Blue Valentine brims with raw emotion and sexuality, but it's the depressing

nature of the narrative that really resorts this one to the dustiest shelves.

The film is a categorical showcase of rich acting by its leads, Michelle Williams and

Ryan Gosling.

But the biting, bitter truth that even the most earnest romances can sputter out so spectacularly

might hit a little too close to home, in a very literal sense, for many viewers to push

play again.

Schindler's List

There's no doubt Schindler's List is one of the most important films to ever grace a theater.

Steven Spielberg's adaptation of this work of historical fiction gave light to the real

work Oskar Schindler did to save the lives of his Jewish employees during World War II.

It painfully depicted the real horrors of the era in unforgiving detail.

In fact, it's precisely because of the raw sense of dread and devastation that it ranks

among those that must be seen at least once — but is probably difficult to revisit for

most.

American History X

Tony Kaye's American History X went to some incredibly disturbing lengths to capture the

true depravity that neo-Naziism inspires and is fueled by.

And while the overarching narrative is optimistic in the sense that empathy is within reach

for even the most seemingly unsalvageable individuals, the road to that character recovery

is immensely upsetting to watch.

Not only are the language and imagery purposefully offensive, but the acts of violence committed

in the movie are unspeakable.

It's hard to imagine anyone choosing to endure it all again after seeing it the first time.

10 CS:GO HIDDEN SECRET SPOTS - Duration: 7:42.

Hey guys, NadeKing here.

In todays video I show you 10 Secret spots in CS:GO, which you probably have not seen

yet.

I tried to find some original and creative spots, so even if you are Global Elite or

Faceit FPL player you may learn some new things from this video.

Also, our notification squad are still looking for new members..

Now prepare yourself to see hopefully something new.

Lets start off with a secret spot and cool offangle from De_Nuke.

Everybody knows you can camp here right behind this CT vent, but you can also create a cool

offangle, if your teammate is willing to boost you up here on

this edge of this vent.

So if Ts are pushing from hut or squeaky door, this angle may work for you, as they are not

ready to aim up here.

This position may give you some easy frags if you dont use it too often in

one match.

Just try it out.

De_Cache and T spawn.

So we are playing a slow round and your job is to watch for any CT aggression towards

B main.

One common spot to do it from T spawn is right here, but we have a cooler alternative right

here.

Just crouch and look through this little gap.

Here you can see this position in play from the enemy perspective.

As you can see - it is really hard to spot you like this.

Keep in mind that both of these positions would require scoped weapon as you are really

far from the enemy.

So better do not use this spot with AK, rather AWP and it will work fine.

Alright, De_Mirage.

We are in the kitchen or market, people call this place with different names.

I havent really seen anybody in this sneaky position, so it is definitely suprising for

the enemy if they see you right here.

So let your teammate boost you and climb up here.

Great spot to suprise your enemies and maybe collect some weapons or get the first frag

while retaking the site, as they may start pushing to this area right here.

Supergeneral.

Again one more sneaky spot from De_Mirage.

This one is really situational, but there are rounds when CTs decide to push ramp or

palace and then go further to T base.

So, when CTs act like I described you can stay in this corner, like shown and

the guys who are pushing T spawn probably will run past you and you could get some really

easy frags.

Nobody really expects you to be here, unless he is x.

This tip is also useful for AFKers, who could more likely survive

in this awesome position.

Next up De_Cache and squeaky door zone.

If you got one friendly teammate with you, you could climb up here.

This is a great spot to hold if you are playing slow round, as CTs may check squeaky in the

middle of the round for any extra information.

You should easily get them from here.

As you can see, if enemy opens the door, he will not really watch up here at first, so

you will got a nice advantage when you play this position and your plan

is to play really slow round.

De_Train and ivy.

This position more or a less requires T main control and Pop Dog control, but if you got

the control of those areas, then it is a great position to hold off Ivy attack.

You need to get supergeneral boost from your friend and then stay right here on these boxes.

I do not see people playing in this position too often and I think it is because of the

control you need to have in order to use this spot.

If you do not have T main control you may easily get backfired and it is not good.

So try this spot, if you got your back covered by your teammates.

Alright one secret spot for De_Inferno.

Again really situational, may suit for you if you are going to play really slow round

and CTs are often pushing apartments.

So, ask for a boost and climb up on this door right here.

From this position you got a great advantage against enemy who is going down from these

stairs and aggressive players are doing it kind of often.

Great if you are aware of that spot especially when you play a lot of Inferno.

De_Cache again.

Middle.

Secret spot, which may be common for some of you, altough if you use it once or twice

in a match - trust me it is really effective.

So, definitely smoke middle before trying to go to this spot.

Now go next to vent and do those easy jumps and here you are.

Enemies may hear you jumping here, so let your teammate mask your sound with his shooting

sound and if they do not hear you jumping to this position,

you will most likely get some free kills and even with Supremes and Global Elites, it works

really well.

Also, keep in mind that if somebody comes from boost, they will probably check left

side middle and you may have a kinda fair battle here, but if enemies come

to middle from mid main, then 90% of the times they wont check this place.

Supergeneral.

De_Cobblestone and one secret peaking spot next to A bombsite.

So surf up from this stone pillar like shown and now if you play with your crouch button

you got a great peekers advantage, because this stone pillar

is not wallbangable and if you do this peek fast it is really hard to react because only

the top of your head will be visible if you do this.

Keep in mind that if you are crouching you are not visible from CT ramp unless

they are already really close.

Make sure to try this spot out, really OP stuff.

Just make sure one of your teammates is holding A long, otherwise you may easily get backfired.

And the last tip for this video.

This takes place on De_ Overpass.

We are in the connector.

Some of you probably know this spot, but it is really overpowered if could silently go

there.

So start with a proper smoke and then climb to this position.

Just like this.

You can actually see a bit to the B short also and if they are coming from connector

and they are lower ranks, they wont expect you to be here.

This is really a overpowered spot right here.

In the higher rankings ofcourse, enemies will check almost every corner, but if you are

playing on the lower level, try this spot out and enjoy your easy kills.

So hit the like button if you enjoyed this video and as always, hope you improved your

supergeneral CS:GO knowledge and thanks for watching!

Now its right time to either subscribe or click on the next video.

True Scary Stories: ATTIC w/ Agentshadowolf - Duration: 20:23.

November first 2009 I'd been married to my now ex-husband for two and a half months

we'll call him Steve earlier that morning he and I had gotten

into an argument and he left the house it was now dinnertime and Steve had not

come home I had just finished cooking and started receiving ignorant texts

from him he told me he'd been at the bar up the

street from our house all day I called my best friend for advice and put my two

youngest sons in the bathtub as I spoke to her his text became more ignorant I

informed him that he was being locked out and there'd be a bag on the porch

for him I told him I didn't want him coming home like that and he should

sleep it off at his mother's I walked to the doors and put a chair under the

doorknob I was in the bathroom telling my friend what I had done and turned

around to see Steve standing in the doorway he went to swing at me

I ducked and he grabbed ahold of my hair and dragged me all through the house I

screamed for my oldest son to call the police

Steve let go of me and chased after him and I ran the other way to the bathroom

my son and I reached the bathroom at the same time we ran in and slammed the door

with just enough time to throw the lock I dialed 9-1-1 and just screamed my

address over and over again into the phone we remained in the bathroom until

we heard the police needless to say I called my mom she took me to the

magistrates and I was granted a protection order six police officers met

me back at my house they informed me that they had not found him but his

truck was still parked at the bar the officers did a thorough search of all

three floors of my house my backyard my shed and my garage before they would let

us back in my mom agreed to spend the night with us and we could gather our

things in the morning two officers came in and showed us how to barricade the

doors one of them told me to call them immediately if there were any more

occurrences or if I just didn't feel right

he said the thirty seconds it takes to decide if I should call could be a

matter of life or death the officers left and my mom and I

barricaded the front door and the door that went downstairs I put my three kids

to bed that's when the house phone began to ring I saw that it was Steve's number

and took the phone off the hook I then began receiving numerous texts from him

I called the police and then turned off my phone an officer responded and told

me they were still outside looking however they did post a car in the lot

at the end of my street to keep an eye on the house when the cop left we

barricaded ourselves back in my mom had me go to my room to try to get some

sleep and she would stay on the couch I'd been in bed for about 10 minutes

when my mom came in my room she said she was hearing noises I came out to listen

and the ice maker was making ice I told her that's always doing that and not to

worry then I went back to bed about 20 minutes after that my mom came back in

looking absolutely terrified and on the verge of tears she said she was hearing

noises like there was someone upstairs she reminded me of what the officer had

said about not hesitating to call as I was in the process of turning my cell

phone back on I heard what she had been hearing it was coming from directly

above us this would have been the Attic as it ran along both sides of the

upstairs it sounded as if something was shuffling around now panicking I dialed

911 and told the dispatcher we were hearing noises and needed someone to

check it out he said he was sending someone immediately I hung up the phone

that's when we heard the attic door creak open and loud footsteps on the

hardwood they were slowly coming down the stairs I began screaming because

there have been many times I've creeped myself out at night thinking I hear

noises and there's never anything there but there was someone this time and he

had been barricaded in the house with us all night making his calls and texting

me from only a few feet away listening to our conversations hiding in the dark

not far from where my son was sleeping thankfully my mom was thinking clearly

she grabbed me by my shirt and threw me into my room the

police had arrived at this point because I could see the flashlights and hear the

commotion outside it was Steve they got him to get into the Attic there was

another door inside the upstairs Hall closet the police must not have seen it

when they were checking the house my mom told me later that she had turned to

face him as he came down the stairs she ran over to the door and removed the

barricade just as the police pulled up she said he didn't put up a fight and

drop to his knees in the yard and that there were about ten cops with their

guns drawn on him I wish I could say that my nightmare with Steve ended here

but I cannot I endured a long bout of PTSD and was terrorized by this man for

several more years he has stalked me broken into my home etc however this is

all I can manage to write for one night he's left me alone for about two and a

half years now but I can't seem to shake the feeling that he's just biding his

time

so I figured I shared my story here because I find it pretty creepy to say

the least this started a few months ago one day it was frosty outside and wet my

roommate dropped me off at my work and came back home later that day when I

came home Ken said this sounds weird but listen when I got home from taking you

to work there were icy footprints on the step these were huge footprints huge I

asked yes he said this had to be at least three sizes bigger than both of

our feet the prints started at the lawn and stopped at the front door I laugh I

told him he's been watching too many scary movies but inside I kind of

freaked out then we started noticing things like today we were watching a

movie and we heard our sink turn on or the other day I was in the bedroom and

he was outside and my door slammed shut they can't started notice things moved

the dogs bows were moved empty when we had filled it up two hours prior and the

dog has been inside the entire time one day ken and I agreed to keep our doors

shut inside the house because it was really hot outside and we were trying to

keep the house cool as possible with all the doors shut and the lights off when

we weren't home when we returned home three lights were on and the door was

open in the bathroom this was all weird but this is where it really got me

one night I was sleeping and I heard something fall on my top shelf I was

creeped out because I knew the attic door was right above the shelf and that

door just creeped me out I immediately opened my door and I saw

nothing but still I was terrified I shut the

door they immediately opened it again and that was when I saw our hand pulling

the door shut I screamed and cane cane running I could not speak I was madly

pointing at the Attic we called the cops they came and found

nothing I didn't want to go back but I had nowhere else to go

a few weeks later Ken and I had an idea our mutual friend lives out of town and

we were going to Skype her for our birthday we set up the phone and set it

up so where it was sit and we wouldn't have to hold it we were talking to our

friend on skype suddenly turned pale and stopped talking

show me your dogs she said randomly what we asked just do it now she said

frantically we agreed and when we were outside she said there was someone in

your house they were peeking out of the attic get out of your house someone is

in your attic we were freaked out and left the cops came turned out some

homeless freak have been living in an attic for god knows how long and that

was it worse he had three knives with him in the attic if we hadn't Skyped our

friend well I don't want to know

you

I grew up in a small town in South Dakota when I was really little probably

about four years old I spent a lot of time at my grandparents house which had

an attic that had been remodeled my brother and I usually slept up there

whenever we would stay at their house one time when I went up there to get a

toy or something I saw a little girl sitting against the bookshelf with her

head down crying I closed my eyes for a second and when I reopened them she was

gone I had quite a wild imagination so I decided that I probably just imagined it

I wasn't really scared of her we're just confused and caught off guard

I didn't tell anybody because I knew that no one would believe me and I

wasn't even sure if I had really seen anything anyway that was the first time

I saw her the second time was probably about a

year later when my grandma sent me up to get something out of the closet for this

time she was standing at the back of the closet behind some boxes looking

straight at me and crying again this time it scared me but I still decided

not to tell anyone a few months after that my cousin's who we were very close

with were staying at this big house for the summer with their mom who was taking

care of it while the family that owned it was away my mom took my brother and I

over there to have a sleepover with our cousins my cousin Devin who was my best

friend growing up was staying in one of the rooms upstairs she brought me up

there to show me how big the room was then she said there's also a secret room

you just have to go through the little secret door in the closet and it takes

you to the clubhouse she was notorious for lying about things

to impress people so I thought she was making this up but she actually wasn't

she opened the closet and moved some stuffed animals out of the way to reveal

a small door she opened it and there was a small room that was just bare plywood

that looked like it would give you splinters if he so much as looked at it

wrong in that room there was another small cupboard like door straight across

from the one that Devin just opened she told me that that was where the

clubhouse was I was hesitant but I agreed to crawl in

there behind her after crawling through the small plywood room and entering the

clubhouse I immediately felt very uneasy and terrified the room itself wasn't

scary it was just a small l-shaped room with a star-shaped window straight ahead

from the entrance there were dusty old pillows and blankets on the floor and

old faded photos taped to the wall it seemed exactly like something I would

have thought was really cool at the time but for some reason it freaked me out so

bad that I got out of there and immediately went downstairs to tell my

mom who was still visiting with Devon's mom that I didn't want to stay the night

and I just wanted to go home my entire life

I have had reoccurring dreams about that tiny Clubhouse I've never known what it

meant but I've always wondered if there was some sort of correlation between

that and the little girl I saw in my grandparents attic because sometimes in

my dreams she's in there flash-forward about ten years to when I was 16 or 17 I

had a very vivid dream that I was at my grandparents house in the dream my Aunt

Sue and I were the only ones there I remember being in the main living room

talking to my aunt about how I really wanted some clothes from the 1960s she

told me there's some in the other room all I have to do is go in there lift up

a piece of carpet move a loose floorboard and go down there there's a

dresser that has all kinds of clothes in it but I have to be careful because

there's a girl who lives down there and she doesn't like it when people go

through her things if this had been real life obviously I would have said hell no

I'm not going down there but of course dream me thought it was a perfect plan

so I did what Sue told me to do it was a huge room down there but messy and dark

the only light was coming through the hole I just climbed through but it was

enough to help me see most of the room and the dresser that I came down there

for I started going through the drawers

wouldn't suddenly I heard a loud high-pitched scream come from behind me

I turned my head and just for a moment I caught a glimpse of the girl it was the

same one I saw as a child and the same one I had dreams about for years but I

had never seen her so close before this time it looked like she didn't have any

eyes just black holes where her eyes should have been I only saw her for a

brief moment before she pulled me to the ground and that's when I woke up the

entire day following that dream I felt really off my brother must have noticed

because when we went to Taco Bell that afternoon for lunch he asked me if

something was wrong at first I said I was okay but after a few minutes I

decided to tell him about the dream I had but I didn't mention anything about

seeing her as a kid all I said was that there was a little girl that screamed

and pulled me down and that's when I woke up what he said after I finished

telling him the story made my heart dropped to my stomach did the little

girl have curly brown hair and was she wearing a pink dress with flowers on it

keep in mind that I never told anyone about her before I asked him how did you

know that and he said because I've seen her there before at grandma's house I

saw her standing at the top of the stairs in the Attic I told him that I

had seen her up there too and we talked about the dreams I've had from that day

on I started having nightmares about her every night I remember one where I woke

up in my dream to her trying to cut my eyes out and a lot of other freaky

things like that I started losing a lot of sleep and I think I was getting a

little delirious because I started having a hard time knowing when I was

asleep and dreaming or when I was awake one night I was lying in my bed looking

at my phone in the dark and I saw something out of the corner of my eye

standing in front of my door I looked up and saw her there I immediately reached

over and turned my lamp on but when I looked back she was gone did I doze off

for a second and dream that she was there or did I really see something a

few nights later I was laying on my side facing a full-length mirror I had on my

wall when I saw a little feet walked behind my bed and heard someone messing

with my stereo and then I woke up to the sound of my stereo turning on by itself

things like that kept happening but the nightmares gradually stopped and

my life got back to normal to this day I shiver when I think about these things

and whenever I go back to my grandparents house I'm too scared to go

up to the attic alone I know that typically people share encounters on

here but I know after finding supper at it that I needed to share this this

happened to my wife's Aunt Sarah I apologized that I can't relay some of

her emotions and at times have to skip on a few details as it is a secondhand

account that's told by my wife this was ten or fifteen years ago

and Sarah had recently been divorced her husband moved out and Sarah continue

living in the house by herself for some time after that the house was in a

typical neighborhood and wasn't secluded or off by itself or anything as Sarah

became used to living alone she felt like she kept hearing things in her

attic and began to wonder what was making the noises she heard

she called the police I had to come and sweep her attic looking for any traces

of anyone living up there but they found nothing and told her she probably just

heard a raccoon or a squirrel in the days after the cops came to her house

she felt like the noises were getting louder and that there was no way that it

was a small animal she called the cops again a week later and the same thing

happened they didn't find anything again a few days after the second call to the

police sir came home from work earlier than usual fortunately for her she had

already started dating during that time and her boyfriend was with her when she

came home that day as she got out of the car in her garage she noticed something

out of place and scary as hell at the door a pair of muddy men's boots I like

to think that if she had been alone she had had enough sense to not enter her

house at that point but luckily her boyfriend was with her they cautiously

entered the house and discover upon entering a door standing naked in the

laundry room doing his laundry sir I want to call the police

but the phone wasn't working and she ended up going next door to use the

phone I am fuzzy on the details here but they managed to keep him in place for up

time for the police arrived and they took him away turns out that this guy

had access to her house somehow and he had D been spending time in her attic

the cops found a small hole in the attic above her bedroom where he had been

watching her and on that day he cut the phone line and put a knife under her

pillow god only knows what would happen if she came home by herself but

thankfully that didn't happen I don't know any more details about the

guy other than the fact that the cops took him away and he's presumably

spending some time in a jail cell rotting away

THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT IN BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA - EP 1 - Duration: 11:22.

Here we are! Birmingham!

Birmingham is the main city in the state of Alabama

And as many people imagine, the name was indeed

inspired by Birmingham in England

Many founders had English descent

2 things made Birmingham be very well known

here in the United States: one was the production of

iron ore and steel in the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th

And the second was Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s and 60s

That's when African Americans fought for equal rights

And I'm here to understand this very disturbing moment of American history

But before getting started, a good brunch to give us some energy

Who can resist chicken and waffles?

This restaurant is located in the TJ Tower - one of the most historic buildings in Birmingham

And look at how beautiful it is! Looks at the details!

This is the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. It's where the reality shock starts

about how things were here in the United States until the 60's

"Yellow, black, brown and white We're all precious in His sight"

And this brick pattern is taken right from that. Do you see the yellow, the black, the brown and the white?

So, we've come to rosemary and this is one of the things they used to try to wake

people's memories up when they've lost their memory and it's here because it

represents the fact that you should remember everything you see when you go inside

They have real-life examples here showing how life was for black people and for white people.

It's really shocking

No matter how hard you worked, no matter how smart you were,

no matter how beneficial you were to the company,

if you were an African American you could only rise so high

What these 2 classrooms show us is the different facilities.

What these classrooms don't show us is... is that here in Birmingham education was segregated

The Negro City schools only went to the 10th grade. If you're an African American, your future

was working in that steel mill, that iron ore mine or one of these places

If you're African American female your future would lie in domestic work, cooking and

things of that nature, so you didn't need to go past the 10th grade in high school

because you weren't going to go to college

The black spots indicate where African Americans were legally allowed to live

Blacks were only given 11% of the residential zoned space in the city

although they made up 43% of the population

And so what happens is any house is going to be used regardless of

your financial ability to pay for something better

That's because white people were bombing properties that belonged to African Americans

When the bus would drive off from the terminal they had a curtain that they would pull between the middle

of the bus and black people sat behind the curtain and white people sat in front of the curtain

They used to keep people from voting with things like literacy tests

They would ask you to recite the United States Constitution

or they'd ask you stupid stuff like how many grains of sand are on the seashore,

how many bubbles can you find in a bar of soap, how many seeds in a water mill

And nobody can answer these questions!

You had something known as the grandfather clause because some of the questions like I said

nobody could answer them, but if you were white you didn't have to answer them because according to the

grandfather clause if your grandfather had voted

then you can vote. If your grandfather hadn't voted, you had to pass this test

"Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"

The real bars of the cell where Martin Luther King was arrested here in Birmingham

Why do people throw money there?

People throw money in there... it started organically...

One of these days I'm going to get in trouble for saying this but I

always joke that people are trying to raise Dr. Martin Luther King's bail

But in actuality people treat it like a wishing well and so they throw change and coins

and some things like that and I guess in hopes that we develop a better society

I'm very shocked

This square here in front of the Institute

is a well-known place for demonstrations

And it was like this also during the civil rights movement

So much so that some of the worst repressions, you know? Some of those images that

Americans remember to this date happened here

These water hoses... it took 77 pounds of pressure per

square inch at a minimum for them to function

If it hits you and you weigh 140-130 (pounds),

you're flying. It takes you out of your feet

These 4 fountains represent the change to the 4 corners of the Earth

that started right here in Birmingham, Alabama

And in the center we see that

the park is a place of revolution and reconciliation

The tiles and the colors, look at that, also continue here

When I think about this I think about the fact that history repeats itself

even when you don't want it to... Without forgiveness there's no way to move into the future

You can't hold those things and...

Because that hate will eat you up as well

What we like to call the original Iron Man

That's Vulcan, the world's largest cast iron statue

Now we're switching topics a little, from the past related to the

Civil Rights movement to the past related to iron and steel production

Vulcan in the Roman mythology was the God of Fire. But what does this have to do with anything, right?

This symbolizes the origins of Birmingham

Vulcan, the God of Fire - the city of iron and steel

One of the things Vulcan means to Birmingham is it meant a lifeline

at a very tenuous time in the city's history

Birmingham produced iron and steel

During the Great Depression there was not a demand for the things that

Birmingham produced so there are a lot of Birminghamians who were suffering tremendously

This park provided work for people in Birmingham during the Great Depression, when they needed it terribly

There's also a museum here explaining a

little bit of this past

You'd have a store, the company store. And you would be paid sometimes in cash

but some steel mills wouldn't pay you cash, they would pay you something known as script

And script was like a piece of coin but you could only spend it in the company's store

So what's happening is the money's being recycled. It never leaves the steel mill

Look at this! You're really enjoying yourself now, aren't you?

Are you guys seeing all the way down there?

It is so beautiful!

Can you believe we haven't even done the check-in yet?

We're at the Homewood Suites by Hilton near University of Alabama

And now I'm going to get some rest before going out for dinner

Wow! Look at the size of this room!

Look at Vulcan up there

Look at this house! We're having a special dinner here tonight

Hi!

So we're now in this really nice neighborhood and chef John Hall is preparing a private dinner for us

And I'm here in the kitchen now seeing if I can learn something

John, is the menu a surprise?

Yes, yes, yeah! Each course is a surprise

I want exactly to capture you!

Very few times I have the chance to congratulate the chef and tell him how much I love the food!

Thank you so much!

Oh, thank you! Thank you!

How did you decide being a chef?

My dad and both my uncles were great cooks

And I just loved being in the kitchen with them and my mom and my grandparents and...

I just wanted something, you know, I love doing every day... Every day is different!

Thank you very much for watching!

In the next video, day 2 here in Birmingham
