(guitar music)

- Hi everybody. My name's Jens Larsen.

Drop2 voicings are a big part

of the core vocabulary that we use when we're playing jazz.

In this video, I'm going to go over

how you can embellish the melodies

that you're playing with inner voice movement,

and sometimes even adding a completely different

layer of harmony.

If you want to learn more about jazz guitar,

about improvising over changes

and understanding chord progressions,

then subscribe to my channel.

If you want to make sure not to miss anything,

then click the little bell notification icon

next to the subscribe button.

The examples in this lesson are on a cadence in A minor,

so just to quickly cover that, on the top string set,

251 in A minor, it's going to be

(guitar chord playing)

B half diminished, (guitar chord playing)

E seven flat nine.

And then, (guitar chord playing)

A minor six.

A for all the positions,

it's going to be this.

These voicings are of course

the most basic versions of them,

and you can add quite a bit more color

by trying to add some extensions to them,

so if you take the

Bm7b5,

you can add the 11 instead of the thirds,

like it's this.

And on the e seven,

you can use the flat 13 instead of the fifth,

so that's the C instead of the B.

And you add a nine to the A minor six.

Then you have this.

If you want to check out more on adding extensions

and alterations to drop two voicings,

I have a link in the description

to a playlist with some of the other videos

I made on that topic.

Now let's get to the first example.

So in this example,

the main voicings that I'm using is

first this,

Bm7b5,

then E7(b9b13)

And then I'm resolving to this A minor six with a nine.

And then what's happened to this,

I have a main melody that, of course,

moves like

For each of the chords.

And then other that melody,

I have another melody moving within the chords,

so that's the inner voice.

First here going from D to E,

And then on the E seven it moves up to F.

And on the E seven,

I have this small melody inside.

That finally resolves to this E.

While the main melody,

which is of course a C,

over it,

is resolving to the B.

And then on the last chord,

I'm also adding

another movement where I change the

six up to a seven like this.

So, an A minor major with a nine.

In this example,

I've quite a few things happening

with the two voices,

so that gets a little bit tricky to explain maybe.

But the first voicing I'm using is just this

B minor seven flat 5,

and then on the E seven,

I'm using quite a few different things.

It's kind of all derived from this.

E7 flat 13 flat 9.

And then on the A minor,

I'm first resolving to this

A minor six with an added major seven.

And then that's finally going to move into this

A minor six with a nine.

So the first part is just

coming out of this

E minor seven flat five,

and I'm only just moving the top melody.

And then on the E seven

the melody goes up to the sharp nine here,

so the G.

And then I have this

E seven with a flat five under it.

Then I'm resolving the flat five.

And then I keep that melody moving up so,

that moves up to a C.

And the top melody moves down to an F,

so I get this.

And then I go up to the sharp nine again

with the top melody.

And then resolve it to E

with the A minor six with a major seven.

And then I move the major seven up to the nine.

In this example,

I'm starting with

this E minor seven flat five,

and then I'm actually going down to a voicing that's

this E7 with a Sharp 9 and a flat 13.

That's kind of derived from the one I used

in the first example as well so it's just this,

E7 flat 9 with flat 13.

And then I'm finally resolving to this

A minor six.

The first part is just moving the top melody again,

so on E minor seven flat five.

And then the top melody goes to C on the E seven.

And here I'm at a completely different layer

of the harmony under it because...

Instead of just playing the E seven,

I'm playing the E seven sharp nine here.

Then B seven

and then I'm moving it down to an

E seven flat nine.

So, I kind of added just this extra passing chord

in there.

And then I move up to this E seven flat nine.

And then resolve that to the A minor six like this.

And then in just a second I turn the A minor six

into an A minor major.

And I do that by moving F sharp

A and then down to G sharp.

These examples of course are a little bit dense,

and there are extra layers on all the chords,

and if you're new to this,

you probably want to introduce it one step

at a time.

Find a few solutions for one chord that you really like,

and try to incorporate that gradually in what you're playing

so maybe one other chord in a cadence.

Or in a song you already know.

That way you're more likely to get into

playing a little bit faster.

If this is the first time you see one of my videos,

and you want to check out more,

Jazz progressions,

improvising over chords,

an interesting scale choices and arpeggios,

then subscribe to my channel.

I'll probably shoot a lesson every Thursday,

and I've been doing this for quite some time,

so there's already a lot of material on my channel.

If you want to help me keep making these videos,

then check out my patreon page.

It's because of the small community of people

supporting me on patreon that I can

keep making all these videos,

so I'm very grateful for that.

And if there's a problem with patreon,

I can give you something in return for your support.

That's about it for this week.

Thank you for watching and until next week...

JUST IN: FBI Confirms Hillary Is Target Of New Investigation | Top Stories Today - Duration: 3:17.

It's been over a year since the infamous tarmac meeting between Bill Clinton and Loretta

Lynch, and Americans still don't know what was discussed.

That might change in light of recent efforts by the American Center for Law and Justice

to obtain documents related to the event according to Fox News.

Yesterday the ACLJ said in an interview that the FBI has "reopened" the request for

documents and is searching for anything related to ACLJ's investigation.

President of the ACLJ, Jay Sekulow, said he received a letter from the FBI stating they

would reopen his Freedom of Information Act requests that he filed last year.

According to an article on the ACLJ website, after the FOIA was initially requested the

FBI responded with "No records responsive to your request were located," and the DOJ

just never responded.

After filing a federal lawsuit against both departments, the DOJ turned over 400 emails

last week revealing email correspondence between the DOJ and FBI, proving the FBI under Comey

was lying about the documents' existence.

Following the lawsuit and the DOJ's compliance to turn over 400 emails.

The FBI responded this week with a letter sent to the ACLJ that states, "records potentially

responsive to your request may exist."

While thrilled with the development, Sekulow remains skeptical of the FBI's sudden willingness

to reopen the request.

"While we appreciate that the FBI has 'reopened' the case file and is now 'searching' for

documents responsive to our duly submitted FOIA request from more than a year ago,"

Sekulow said, "it stretches the bounds of credulity to suggest that the FBI bureaucracy

just discovered that 'potentially responsive' records 'may exist' on its own accord."

The meeting between Clinton and Lynch while Hillary Clinton was under investigation has

been a nagging mystery.

For a while, the only information we had about the meeting was supplied by those involved

and further attempts to uncover details have been met with cover-up and secrecy.

According to The Los Angeles Times, when asked about the meeting Lynch responded that "Our

conversation was a great deal about his grandchildren.

It was primarily social and about our travels.

He mentioned the golf he played in Phoenix, and he mentioned travels he'd had in West

Virginia.

We talked about former Attorney General Janet Reno, for example, whom we both know, but

there was no discussion of any matter pending for the department or any matter pending for

any other body."

The timing of the meeting during the Clinton investigation, and the fact that same investigation

would be dropped within in a week with no criminal charges, was suspicious.

Further suspicions arose when former FBI Director James Comey said he was concerned when Lynch

directed him to refer to the Clinton investigation as a "matter" rather than an "investigation."

Sekulow says the ACLJ will continue to investigate the issue and "press on in our legal fight

to ensure that the details of the secret Clinton-Lynch meeting and the subsequent cover-up and withholding

of information from the public comes to light."

Hopefully, with the efforts of organizations like the ACLJ, we will finally learn what

really happened on the tarmac.

Do you want to know what Lynch and Clinton REALLY talked about on the tarmac?

This Is What Happened To Data From Star Trek - Duration: 6:24.

As Lt. Commander Data on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Brent Spiner saved the Enterprise

on more than one occasion, and allowed the show to explore ethical questions about just

what it means to be an android in a world of humans.

Despite being the least human of the cast, Data quickly became a fan-favorite character,

all the way through the series' 1994 finale and four subsequent films… but what happened

to Spiner after Star Trek ended?

Independence Day

In 1996, Spiner made an appearance in the smash science fiction hit Independence Day,

though many fans may not have recognized him after seeing him as the stoic Data for so

long.

You can spot Spiner in the part of Dr. Brackish Okun, the unkempt and enthusiastic director

of Area 51 who joins a surgical team during an autopsy on one of the aliens.

Although Okun appears to meet a messy end, Spiner returned to reprise his role in the

2016 sequel.

Introducing Dorothy Dandridge

In 1999, Spiner landed a co-starring role alongside Halle Berry in the HBO production

Introducing Dorothy Dandridge, a bio-pic focusing on the life of a singer, dancer, and actress

who battled against pervasive racial discrimination during her incredible career.

Spiner appears as Earl Mills, Dandridge's friend and manager.

Throughout the rise and fall of her too-brief career, Mills stood by her side until the

end — the day he found her body after she passed away at age 42.

Return to Star Trek

Even though Data's storyline was wrapped up during the course of 2002's Star Trek: Nemesis,

the franchise wasn't completely done with Spiner.

While the door was left open for him to potentially return as an identical android, Spiner felt

he'd gotten too old to play the ageless robot.

But in 2004, he appeared on Star Trek: Enterprise as Arik Soong, a criminal geneticist and ancestor

of Data's creator, Dr. Noonien Soong… who was also played by Spiner.

By the end of Soong's arc in the prequel series, the foundations are laid for the creation

of Data.

Spiner on film

Although many of his film roles have been relatively minor, Spiner has had some scene-stealing

moments, including his appearance in the 1996 John Travolta fantasy drama Phenomenon, as

an FBI doctor.

In 2002, Spiner appeared as bad guy Devlin Bowman in the notoriously awful Dana Carvey

comedy The Master of Disguise.

The entire movie was a vehicle to showcase Carvey's impressive mimicry skills, but it

didn't work.

The Master of Disguise was a commercial and critical flop, and playing a ridiculously

flatulent villain didn't do Spiner any favors.

"Is he dead?"

Spiner also appeared in the Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau comedy Out to Sea, and made

a brief appearance in the 2004 Howard Hughes bio-pic The Aviator.

In 2006, Spiner returned to the big screen for another comedy, the teen-focused Material

Girls, starring Hilary and Haylie Duff, playing the nefarious co-founder of a cosmetics company.

Although it fared slightly better with critics than The Master of Disguise, that also isn't

saying much.

The film was nominated for multiple Razzies and was one of the worst-reviewed films of

the 2000s.

"Oh s---."

Threshold

In 2005, Spiner starred along with Peter Dinklage and Carla Gugino in the CBS sci-fi series

Threshold.

The trio formed the core of a secret U.S. governmental think tank tasked with humanity's

first extraterrestrial contact, with Spiner playing Dr. Nigel Fenway, a NASA microbiologist.

The top-secret "Red Team" is in charge of researching and containing an incident on

an American naval vessel where several crew members die horribly after encountering a

UFO.

Although it was canceled after only one season, Threshold is a must-watch for Brent Spiner

fans.

Voice acting

Because Spiner has such a rich theater background, it probably shouldn't be surprising that he's

done plenty of voiceover work over the years.

In the 1999 movie South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, he provides the voice of talk-show

host Conan O'Brien.

He's also taken voice roles on several TV shows, including the role of the Joker on

Young Justice.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we interrupt your regularly-scheduled mayhem to bring you this."

His credits also include Purple Man in The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, The Simpsons,

Star Wars Rebels, and Family Guy.

"I want some McNuggets!"

"We'll get to you, Brent."

If you're a fan of the video game Elite Dangerous, now you can get Spiner's voice in your spaceship;

he provided a voice pack for Vega in 2016.

Fresh Hell

In 2011, Spiner co-created and starred in his own web series, Fresh Hell.

The show depicts a fictionalized version of Spiner trying to rebuild his career after

losing everything.

Spiner's unexpected comedic talents shine, and the episodes are short and funny.

Fans who haven't seen it yet should definitely give it a watch.

Spiner has also made plenty of guest appearances as himself on TV, including the Friends spinoff

Joey, and The Big Bang Theory, where he reunites with his Next Generation costar Wil Wheaton

at a birthday party.

Spiner has also appeared as himself on The Guild, as well as many other shows.

Warehouse 13

Spiner made his return to science fiction in several episodes of the SyFy series Warehouse

13 during the show's fourth season.

Over a six-episode arc, Spiner appears as Brother Adrian, a Vatican agent and member

of the "Brotherhood of the Black Diamond."

Upon returning to science fiction, Spiner told SyFy,

"I'm not like really zeroed in focused on sci-fi.

But if it's good sci-fi, I like it.

I like westerns too.

I like comedy.

I was much more of a Lucy kind of guy than I was a Star Trek kind of guy.

But fate has taken me in this direction."

Outcast

Since 2016, Spiner's biggest project has been the Cinemax horror series Outcast, in which

he plays Sidney, a mysterious preacher involved in a tale of demonic possession in a small

West Virginia town.

For fans who loved Spiner's work as Data, seeing him in such a dark role might be disturbing

at first, but it showcases a menacing side of his acting — one we haven't really seen

since Data's brother Lore was deactivated for good.

And playing a gassy villain doesn't count.

"Hahaha."

A Waterfowl Dream Hunt - Snow Geese Hunting in Saskatchewan - Duration: 6:20.

I have one reoccurring dream in my life. it's that moment when the birds commit.

you know they're coming and they bow up you know they're on final glide. I see

that in my dreams and I have that dream maybe two or three times a month and I

wake up and I go woah how awesome is that because that's that moment I think that

resonates with so many hunters it's that moment when you know they're coming

and they're in range and the opportunity is going to present itself.

and it's not

about the kill it's not the getting it's the getting out it's the environment

that's why I like to go to the north country to go to Canada

you know the prairie provinces and that's what resonates in my soul

that's where these birds come from the far north. North to the Wavies. It's like

going into thick timber for an elk. You know they have the upper hand really.

>> Kill em guys.

>>This is life as it should be it's why you come north to the wavies. It just

doesn't get any better than this

I'm Doug Peterson I grew up in Minnesota almost 60 years I've hunted still love

it as much as day one. When I grew up we started hunting ducks my dad and I you

know we were you know prolific hunters we went everywhere we eventually got up

into Canada and the snow geese were starting to really expand and and they

were really relatively easy to harvest they weren't as smart as they are now

but now since the conservation order was established where you basically can hunt

snow geese year-round and in many many states there's actually no limit so to

to really decoy in birds close snow geese is very challenging now. I've seen

photographs of the nesting colonies up in the Arctic and you see a nest every

three feet as far as the eye can see into the distance and when they leave

these nesting areas it's a complete mud flat. It's just destroyed and it takes

decades if not a century or centuries to recover

so really the conservation order was established to try to reduce their

numbers through hunting with snow geese in order to not only help the tundra but

to help the species. It needs to be done these birds need to be reduced in

numbers just for their own health and population and the nice thing in

Saskatchewan is that any birds that you don't take back to the States they've

worked it out that they go to the food bank and it all disappears it's a

wonderful program that they've established up there I mean absolutely

none of the birds are wasted, none of the birds.

>> we're blessed to be here to be able to see this spectacle

amazing specimen very cool bird.

You can see the difference between a Rossy and

say a snow the difference in the beak

>> It's got the all white wings the black

wing tips with the snow goose bill they got what they call the big black ring

patch and then they have you open up their beak here it's almost like a

serrated bill

>> Their life is from the Arctic Ocean down to the you know the

Gulf the navigation system the GPS and migrating waterfowl is just staggering

this beyond what we understand. We're talking tens of thousands if not

hundreds of thousands of birds that are in the area and we hunt new fields every

day and you just want to sit there and just watch this spectacle it is a

spectacle and just to see that just if you're driving through the country and

you see a tornado of a hundred thousand Dee's or two hundred thousand geese

coming down to feed, stop not the car and you just absorb that because so few

people really get to see that

>> Fantastic day the birds, good shooting and good

friends look what can you ask for.

>> You're given a finite number of hunts in your life and this was an epic one

that's for darn sure. You want to make every hunt really count I think I was

six when I started going out with my dad with a BB gun and I just walked with

him but you know I've spent a lifetime of you know learning places and really

zeroing in on what are some of the greatest places to hunt

it's definitely with the passion and I attribute it to my father as he got

older he hunted right up to when he passed away at 87. We literally logged you

know millions of miles hunting you know all that time. Owe him a great deal of

thanks for what he instilled in me.

it's really cool and the fact that my one and only reoccurring dream is that

moment when the birds bow up. Seeing a lot of birds alone as that dream.

The One Show turns sex-plosive as CRABS under spotlight: 'Females love a big one'

The BBC talk show descended into pure smut when wildlife presenter Mike Dilger joined the sofa. He brought innuendo by the bucketload to the conversation as he explained how crabs get down and dirty – and he didnt hold back.

Mike started: The females love a big pincer. FUNNY MAN: Mike ran with the innuendoes. If youve got a big pincer, youre going to get lots of matings. Guest Ronnie Wood from The Rolling Stones was in pieces during Mikes pincer chat.

Meanwhile The One Show presenters Gabby Logan and Matt Baker struggled to keep a straight face.

IN STITCHES: Ronnie Wood cracked a smile.

HYSTERICS: Matt Baker and Gabby Logan couldnt keep a straight face.

Mike Dilger That didnt stop Mike from explaining that size really doesnt matter in the crustacean world. He continued: If you have a modest sized pincer, you wont get as many female crabs.

So what you do is you surround yourself with guys that have little tiny pincers, to make your pincer look much larger than it is. Its been a rollercoaster week on The One Show.

LUCKY: Size doesnt matter for crabs. On Mondays show, chef Rosemary Shrager made a racist remark to The Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain. And last night, viewers were left raging after a controversial wee chat.

Catch The One Show tomorrow night at 7pm on BBC One.
