The beauty is in caring about the other person.
I think it's about communication.
The Japanese language has many nuances. I think that's part of its beauty.
Hey guys and girls on Ask Japanese it's Cathy Cat.
Today we've come to Brilliant Star Decorations. This time the topic is Poison Garden.
It is a fashion musical and we got a lot of interesting guests here.
Also the visitors are dressed perfectly.
This time we will go and ask the Japanese people that are here
What actually is Japanese beauty? Let's go and Ask Japanese!
I am KAIE, singer of Brilliant Kingdom and designer of the brand Tripple Fortune.
I am also a singer of Brilliant Kingdom and we launch the event together.
I also create the script and choreography of Brilliant Kingdom. My name is BABI
What's Japanese beauty?
I think Japanese beauty is the way we care about others, don't you think?
The beauty is in caring about the other person.
What Kaie means is, instead of just going "I am beautiful, I am great"
making the people who are there happy,
??
Same with Lolita fashion. Instead of just doing it on your own,
when you do it with others they will understand. This is part of the fun.
Don't just do it on your own, have a rapport with people.
Think of the others.
Getting along with everyone.
- We value that in Japan - And we value that at this event.
What do you think is Japanese beauty?
- Japanese beauty? - I know, difficult question.
It's difficult and I think everyone has their own response to that.
From my perspective...
???
There is a place of tranquility.
???
I think that's the true beauty of it.
???
I think that's beauty.
There is a certain word "Miyabi" that stands for refinement.
We have a great sense of color.
We use many more colors than people abroad.
For example in Kimonos.
Also Lolita fashion is so colourful
Same with Japanese fashion. We use a lot of colors.
I think we really have a greater sense of color.
Like mentioned, we have a term for refinement, also in history.
we include beauty in our habits.
I think that includes all of the Japanese beauties.
I think what's beautiful is that we are polite and high mannered.
We are cultivated. Maybe it's that.
We don't butt in. That might be a part of beauty.I
That's a part of beauty. - We have a sense of beauty.
What's Japanese beauty to you?
That would have to be Lolita fashion. Right?!
This is not just Japanese beauty but..
But as part of Japan's unique fashion I think it's Japanese beauty.
I learned how to do tea ceremonies.
I like the hospitality aspect of it.
Thinking of pleasing the other person.
I think that kindness.
Coming to events like these, I will help out people that might look lost.
We are also encouraged to start a conversation with people who come here alone.
I think that's beautiful.
I was once asked what I want to communicate the most in Japanese and I said
"Arigatou gozaimashita" thank you is what I said.
Taking pictures and getting pictures taken, saying thanks makes us happy.
This kind of communication is beautiful.
Polite and kind communication.
Japanese beauty?
The power of arranging things.
This gothic lolita fashion has not existed in Japan from the start.
We admired the style of the UK
we then included into our own fashion and the refined result
is a more than just satisfying result.
I think that's the source of beauty.
Well as part of Japanese culture...
we will take parts of other culture and arrange it with our culture.
And we will add the attention to detail that we are so known for in Japan.
???
I think Japanese beauty is the combination of Japanese and Western culture
I often look at pictures of Western lolitas.
???
Layering up so much under skirts is a very Japanese thing.
Over there girls don't wear skirts that are that large and you can't see underneath.
But over here some people seem to like it to show the layers underneath a little bit.
And that's Japanese beauty?
Same with kimonos we like to show a little what we wear underneath.
This might have influenced our fashion.
I think it's our black Japanese hair.
In Japan we have many people with beautiful hair.
I think we have many beautiful aspects to our culture.
I used to study the Japanese language.
Japanese!
In Japanese we have so many nuances.
Two words can have different meanings.
I think that's part of Japanese beauty.
I like how skillful we are.
I used to study classical literature in university.
Looking at the kimono and such, I could see how beautiful our sense of color is.
I think Japanese beauty is how vivid our creations are.
I think it's how we value the seasons.
I think it's our nature. The mountains and the sea.
I think those are beautiful. But also the cityscape...
is different but also beautiful in my opinion.
As Japanese we value the changing of the seasons particularly.
The landscape and things people create...
I think that's very Japanese.
It might be those things foreigners perceive as "Japanese".
We might not notice these things, but they might be the essence of Japanese beauty.
I think.
Japanese beauty are our shrines and temples!
Why so?
I went to Hawaii.
???
I was like "Wow they have them abroad?! It's like being in Japan"
I think Shrines and Japanese buildings have that.
Those buildings have existed in the past days and even now.
That's why I think it's shrines and such.
Now I am gonna ask a difficult comment. You can quickly think about it.
When you think about what is beauty in Japan, it doesn't have to be people.
It can be like a pond or anything that for you symbolizes beauty in Japan.
So what is Japanese beauty?
I think just from watching the people around me it's being polished.
Like, put together because there are so many different looks.
But everyone has thought about it and put their time in.
Even though you look at some and think "Wow that's kind of different'
But it's beautiful because they put so much time and effort in and everything works together.
I'd have to say the same thing. One thing we noticed coming here is that
everyone's outfits are totally put together.
Even when they are in different styles it's always consistent.
and very well put together.
I think it's combining tradition with new forms of expression.
And seeing where those two lines blur and meet.
Comparing to back home, what do you think is Japanese beauty?
In comparison to back home in Singapore.
What is different?
Japanese beauty feels a bit more fresh, natural.
A bit more beautiful.
Lady (like).
Back home...
It's a mix but you tend to see people who show a lot of skin.
More than anything else.
And that's not something that I personally prefer.
So I appreciate that style here.
Yeah I guess back home
We try.... it's a rather T-shirt and shorts culture.
Slippers culture, because it's more comfortable in our weather.
anything that you can dress up a bit more...
do get more attention...
I make it sound a bit negative but we do have positive...
comments before from our own country people.
The children love it. They are like "oh I love you can I take a picture?"
What do you think is the essence of Japanese beauty?
Making it look effortless.
Yeah definitely. I think it's like...
They look like they put it on in five minutes. They may take five hours...
but they make it look like it's five minutes.
Thank you so much! Can we wave at the camera?
Beauty is a thing that is different for each and every person.
We asked this time about Japanese beauty. I personally think
a part of Japanese beauty is...
The amount of detail that goes into certain processes.
how much thought you put in a certain item.
For example how the shops here are decorated. There is so much love
and care and little messages and little notes and little stickers and stuff
that just go into decorating a shop and then you look
at Japanese gardens and see how much detail and time they spent
on making a garden look perfect.
All that love to detail and perfection
is a part of Japanese beauty in my opinion.
But how about you? What do you think is Japanese beauty in your opinion.
Looking forward to reading your comments, leave them down below
I hope I catch you soon for another video on Ask Japanese. Thank you bye!
