Hi guys, I'm Karen Kavett, welcome back to HGTV Handmade.
So school supplies are great but after you spend your time gathering and organizing all
of your nice supplies, you don't want to lose them.
So today I have a bunch of ideas of creative ways to label your school supplies.
Let's get started.
You can label your notebooks or binders with this easy technique.
Just grab the same letter stickers but in multiple colors.
Use one color to spell out the name of your class.
Then layer the other two colors on top to make it look like a shadow.
You can even mix up the order of the colors for different words on your notebook.
I think this is really fun, and it's really easy and quick to do.
Next we're going to label this composition book so it's a little more fun than just
writing your name on the front.
Cover up the front with a piece of holographic duct tape.
Then outline that with thin strips of bright pink duct tape.
Now is the fun part - we get to use a labelmaker.
I have this fun pink label tape, which I think any kid or adult would love.
Just type out your labels and for an extra touch, cut a decorative design into the ends
before pressing it down onto the book.
And for good measure, you can also cover the spine of the book with pink tape.
This is the notebook I wish I had had when I was a kid because there's no way you'll
be able to lose it.
Let's change gears for a minute and label our school supply pouch.
I'm going to be using iron on letters, because they're quick and have a big impact.
Just arrange your design - I'm doing my initials, but you could do your first name
if it's short enough.
Then follow the directions that come with your letters to iron them on, and make sure
that you only iron onto a fabric like canvas or cotton, and not a cheap plasticky material
that might melt under the iron.
Once it's cooled down, peel off the backing and I think that looks so cute.
For one extra touch, I added a patch to the other side, and mine has a pin so it's removable,
but you could always iron or sew on the patch as well.
And we're done.
I think that's adorable and no one's going to walk away with your personalized school
supply pouch.
Let's go back to our notebooks now.
If you want to label it with your name, I think it's fun to stamp out your message,
and I'm doing mine on a post-it note, but you could use any paper you have or even sticker
paper if you have it on hand.
Once you've made your label, just put it in place on the inside of your notebook and
cover it with packing tape to protect it.
And then of course we have to outline it in washi tape because why have all this washi
tape if you're not gonna use it?
This is really easy, but I think it adds a nice homemade touch to your store-bought notebooks.
This next one is great for younger kids.
I think it's so cute if you take a photo of them and use that to label their school
supplies.
You can just glue it in place to the inside of the notebook and also label it with their
name.
And now the school will definitely know who to return it to if it gets lost.
And finally, I am obsessed with these holographic letter stickers that I found at the craft
store and I think we can use them to make a really graphic bold binder cover.
Just start laying out the letter stickers to spell out the name of your class, but when
you get to the end of the line, I think it looks cool if you just continue on to the
next line with no breaks or spaces.
And a little tip - if you want a character that's not included, like an exclamation
point, you can cut it out of a similar letter like I did here.
This is bold and trendy and I know some of you might be cringing from the typography
crimes I committed here, but sometimes you gotta break the rules, I really like it.
