Waching daily Aug 26 2017

It's been a long time since Peter Jackson dazzled moviegoers with his award-winning,

blockbuster trilogy adaptation of J.R.R.

Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings.

And although Jackson followed that up with his Hobbit series, the stars behind Frodo's

quest to take the ring to Mordor have changed quite a bit since the original LOTR films.

Here's what the people of Middle Earth have been up to since the one ring to rule them

all was tossed into the fire.

Elijah Wood

Before he became Frodo Baggins, Elijah Wood was a well-known child star who'd appeared

in movies like Radio Flyer and The Good Son.

But Lord of the Rings helped to jettison the actor into the full-on mainstream.

After that, he started nabbing roles in films like Sin City and Eternal Sunshine of the

Spotless Mind.

In addition to returning for The Hobbit in 2012, he's also continued to star on the big

screen as well as television.

He recently appeared in BBC America's Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency and stars

in Netflix's I Don't Feel at Home in this World Anymore.

"We're badasses now.

We're big badasses..."

Sean Astin

Perhaps best known for his role as Frodo's right-hand man, Samwise Gamgee, actor Sean

Astin no longer looks like the Hobbit who made him famous.

Like Elijah Wood, Astin was also known for the roles he played as a young man — in

films like The Goonies and Rudy — long before he ever set foot in the Shire.

However, his post-Lord of the Rings career is a little less busy.

He's landed a few small roles in movies and television series, but nothing's managed to

stick just yet.

He may enjoy a career turnaround, though, after appearing in the much-anticipated second

season of Netflix's Stranger Things.

Ian McKellen

Inarguably the most decorated of all the Lord of the Rings cast members, Sir Ian McKellen

looks even wiser now than he did with a staff in his hand as the wizard Gandalf.

The actor continued to enjoy his prominent role in the X-Men movies and most recently

played Cogsworth in Beauty and the Beast and the title role of King Lear on-stage.

He also remains one of the staunchest and most influential advocates for LGBT rights.

Sean Bean

Whether or not you had sympathy for Boromir, Sean Bean's next high fantasy character would

suffer a fate that broke the hearts of millions and informed an entire series of family vengeance.

Although Bean has also enjoyed roles in major movies like Troy, National Treasure, and The

Martian, he may be best known these days for his short-lived turn as Ned Stark on HBO's

Game of Thrones.

He's been gone from the show for several seasons, but his face has not been forgotten by the

people of Westeros.

"Tell them the North remembers."

Sean Bean has since capitalized on that small screen attention and nabbed roles in shows

like Missing, Legends, and Broken.

Viggo Mortensen

Becoming the King of Gondor was certainly the big break Viggo Mortensen had been waiting

for, but it's not his defining role by any stretch of the imagination.

The actor has since impressed in films like A History of Violence, The Road, Eastern Promises,

and Captain Fantastic.

And Mortensen has since branched out in artistry as well, founding a publishing company and

creating his own poetry books and paintings.

He's also known to have rocked out with Buckethead, producing multiple albums with the avant-garde

guitarist.

Orlando Bloom

After appearing as the elven archer Legolas, Orlando Bloom earned instant heartthrob status

and prime placement in several other blockbusters, including Troy and the Pirates of the Caribbean

series.

He also made at least one error in job judgment by starring in the critically maligned Elizabethtown.

"Come on."

Despite that setback, Bloom has continued to ride the wave of franchises that have informed

his career over the past two decades by picking back up his bow for the Hobbit trilogy and

appearing in the latest Pirates pic.

Liv Tyler

Also earning heartthrob status in Lord of the Rings was Arwen, the elven love interest

of Aragorn.

Nowadays, Liv Tyler has managed to break away from her fantastic image and status as the

daughter of Aerosmith's Steven Tyler to forge a career all her own.

Formerly a teenage model, Tyler got her acting start in the mid-90s appearing in films like

Empire Records and Armageddon, and has since continued to amass an impressive resume, most

recently appearing in HBO's The Leftovers as the terrifying cult leader Meg.

Dominic Monaghan

Merry might've been the most serious of the shire folk, but in real life, Dominic Monaghan

is about as laid back as they come.

The animal-lover is a vocal advocate for nature, even earning his own show about tracking down

rare species of animals and insects.

And even though he was part of the Lord of the Rings fellowship, he may be better known

for his heartbreaking work on the small screen series Lost.

Billy Boyd

Unlike most of his co-stars, the man who played Pippin Took in the Lord of the Rings movies

hasn't become a Hollywood staple.

Rather, Billy Boyd is more of a musician than a thespian these days.

He did appear alongside Russell Crowe in Master and Commander and starred in several indies,

but he's also the lead singer-guitarist for a band called Beecake.

That musical prowess has come full circle for him, as he wrote and performed the end-credits

theme for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.

Of course, we probably shouldn't be too surprised to see him hit the musical scene after his

stunning solo performance in Return of the King.

John Rhys-Davies

In addition to being known for his axe-swinging skills as the dwarf Gimli, John Rhys-Davies

is also recognizable as the man who starred as Sallah in the Indiana Jones films.

Unlike his dwarf counterpart, the actor would have no trouble seeing over a ledge — because

in real life, he's over six feet tall.

He can currently be seen in another fantasy drama series called The Shannara Chronicles.

Hugo Weaving

Although he might be remembered for his turn as Lord Elrond in Lord of the Rings, Hugo

Weaving's face is probably even more associated with The Matrix, since he starred as the inescapable

Agent Smith in that trilogy as well.

He has also enjoyed prime placement in pics like V for Vendetta, Captain America: The

First Avenger, and most recently, Hacksaw Ridge.

Weaving will also re-team with Peter Jackson to act in 2018's Mortal Engines.

Cate Blanchett

The fabulous actress behind the elven queen Galadriel needs no introduction.

Shortly after the Lord of the Rings trilogy ended, Cate Blanchett won her first of two

Academy Awards for The Aviator.

After that, she had no trouble nabbing role after role on the big screen.

Notable highlights include Notes on a Scandal, Hanna, and Blue Jasmine, the film that earned

her a second Oscar for her shelf.

She's also joined Hugo Weaving in the Marvel bad guy club as the villain Hela in Thor:

Ragnarok, and she's set to appear in the gender-bent Ocean's Eleven spin-off Ocean's Eight.

David Wenham

After becoming Faramir for Lord of the Rings, David Wenham went on to star in 300 as well

as other films and small screen series.

Most recently, Wenham starred in BBC's Top of the Lake and Netflix's Marvel series Iron

Fist and he's also stepped behind the lens to make his directorial debut with Ellipsis.

World's 10 Most Generous Countries - Duration: 4:47.

The world is becoming more generous.

That's the good news coming out of the most recent world giving index, an annual study

by the Charities Aid Foundation that provides insight into the scope and nature of giving

around the world.

The research firm Gallup asked people from 140 countries around the world whether they

had done these charitable activities in the past month: helping a stranger; donating money

to a charity; and volunteering time to an organization.

Each country is given a percentage score and ranked.

These are the top 10 most generous countries.

Number 10 is the United Arab Emirates.

It jumped up from fourteenth to tenth thanks to its people's willingness to help strangers.

It's fifth place ranking in that category is the highest of any country in the overall

top 10, and buoys its overall score after the UAE had the least amount of people on

this list spend time volunteering.

Next is Ireland, it's score is down three percentage points and is hurt by the second-worse

helping strangers score on the top 10.

This decline comes as Ireland's economy is the fastest growing in Europe for the fourth

straight year.

Eighth is the United Kingdom.

It's people rank as the seventh most generous at giving their money away, down four percent

from its five year average.

However, its volunteering time is up three points.

It will be interesting to see if behaviors in the UK change as the Brexit situation develops.

Taking the seventh spot is Indonesia.

It scores in the top three in both donating money to charity and time spent volunteering.

Overall, it leaped up fifteen spots in the rankings.

This could have something to do with the survey coinciding with the holy month of Ramadan.

The Canadians come in sixth.

Solid across the board, Canada doesn't crack the top ten in any single category--the only

country on the list where that's the case.

It's best ranking is in donating money, although slightly fewer Canadians did than last year.

Sri Lanka is fifth.

Its ranking jumped up four places from its five year average.

It's helping a stranger and donating money scores are both now in the 60's, and its volunteering

score is the fourth best in the world.

Fourth is New Zealand.

It is top 10 in donating money and volunteering.

Oceana, comprised solely of Australia and New Zealand, is a conflict free part of the

world which allows its more economically well off people to be more generous with their

time and money.

Which brings us to Australia, ranked third on this list.

Its overall score is two points higher than its five-year average, helping it rise to

the third spot.

Like its regional neighbor New Zealand, its highest score is in donating money.

The United States is ranked second.

Its average rank of nine across the three categories in the survey is best in the world,

and its 61% overall score is the same as its five year average.

And the number one ranked country on the world giving index - for the third year in a row

- is Myanmar, formerly known as Burma.

Its overall score is largely driven by its 91% donating money score.

Its heavily Buddhist population donates regularly to support the country's monks.

Worldwide, people are more altruistic across all three of the categories in the study.

Separating countries by level of development provides even more insight into the data.

We see people in developed places are slightly less likely to help a stranger.

Iraq and Libya are the countries most likely to help a stranger.

The greater need amongst the population in these war torn places is encouraging more

people to be responsive out of sheer necessity.

Men are more likely to help a stranger than women, and those over 50 years old are the

least likely age group to do so.

On the flip side, the oldest among us are the most likely to donate money to charity.

The people of Turkmenistan are the most likely to donate their time, thanks to the widespread

practice in that country of people spending their Saturdays volunteering.

Again, men are more likely to volunteer than women, and those over 50 are the least likely

age group to volunteer their time.

And lastly, these are the continent-wide scores on each category compared to each other, and

their five year averages.

Thanks for watching.

My intention with this video is to start a constructive dialogue about giving.

While each country's ranking and scores should be taken with a grain of salt, this

index did help me reflect on what more I can do to help those around me.

The full study is linked below and has recommendations on how governments can encourage more giving.

And, to make sure you're giving to the charities that will do the most with your money, I've

included a link to the Charity Navigator.

Until next time, for TDC, I'm Bryce Plank.

John Kasich Wants 2020 "Unity Ticket" With Democratic VP - Duration: 6:16.

THERE IS WORD THAT A UNITY TICKET FOR THE 2020 ELECTION IS

GOING TO BE COMING ACROSS OUR LANDSCAPE.

JOHN KASICH, YOU WILL

REMEMBER, THE WINNER OF THE NEW HAMPSHIRE PRIMARY, THE LAST

REALLY VIABLE CANDIDATE TO LEAVE THE RACE IN 2016, THE GOVERNOR

OF OHIO, HE WOULD PROBABLY SAY THAT FIRST, HE AND JOHN

HICKENLOOPER, THE GOVERNOR OF COLORADO AND FORMER MAYOR OF

DENVER, THERE ARE RUMORS THAT THEY WILL FORM A UNITY TICKET.

THE SOURCE THAT BROKE THIS STORY TO CNN SAID

THIS --

JIMMY, WHY CAN'T IT HAPPEN IN WASHINGTON?

I'LL TELL YOU THIS, I DON'T KNOW THE ANSWER OF WHAT IT CAN

HAPPEN IN WASHINGTON, BUT THIS IS SO BACKWARDS.

PEOPLE THINK

THIS IS WHAT AMERICA WANTS.

PEOPLE IN A BUBBLE THINK THAT.

NO NORMAL, REGULAR PERSON THAT I'VE EVER TALKED TO WANTS TO SEE

THIS HAPPEN.

HICKENLOOPER, WHO WAS IN BED WITH FRACKERS, HE'S A

NEO-LIBERAL, I HAD HIGHER HOPES FOR HIM THAN WHAT HE'S TURNING

OUT TO BE, BUT NO ONE IS SAYING WE REALLY NEED FOR DEMOCRATS TO

BECOME MORE LIKE REPUBLICANS, OR FOR REPUBLICANS TO BECOME --

NO ONE IS SAYING THIS.

THIS IS SOME FAKE IDEA THAT CHRIS MATTHEWS PROBABLY

THOUGHT UP, BECAUSE I'VE HEARD HIM SAY THIS BEFORE, HE

TOLD HILLARY CLINTON THAT SHE SHOULD PICK JOHN KASICH.

THEY DIDN'T INVENT IT, HISTORICALLY PEOPLE HAVE TALKED

ABOUT GETTING PEOPLE FROM OPPOSITE SIDES TO JOIN TOGETHER,

IT HAS NEVER HAPPENED, NOT SINCE GORE PICKED LIEBERMAN --

THAT TURNED OUT WELL.

THAT'S AN INTERESTING POLITICAL CONVERSATION, THEY

WERE IN THE SAME PARTY, LIEBERMAN WAS A DEMOCRAT, IT WAS

BEFORE HE TOOK AN INDEPENDENT RUN -- BUT I AGREE WITH YOU,

PEOPLE INVOLVED IN POLITICS DON'T WANT THAT, PEOPLE ON THE

OUTSIDE OF POLITICS HATE HEARING THE FIGHTING, THEY HATE CONGRESS

AT 8% BECAUSE ALL THEY DO IS BIGGER AND NOT GET ANYTHING

DONE.

AND I'M TALKING IN BROAD STROKES HERE, BUT I AGREE WITH

YOU.

I'M NOT CRAZY ABOUT THIS, I WOULDN'T WANT THIS, BUT WHY

DON'T THEY?

IF THESE PEOPLE CAN'T STAND THE FIGHTING SO

MUCH, HAVE THESE PEOPLE JOIN, DO A UNITY CAMPAIGN, AND GET US

OVER THE HUMP.

A SORT OF A GERALD FORD TO GET US OUT OF

THIS MESS.

BECAUSE THAT THE OPPOSITE OF HOW POLITICS IS SUPPOSED TO

WORK.

YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO HAVE TWO PARTIES THAT HAVE DIFFERENT

IDEAS, AND THAT'S THE PROBLEM WITH OUR POLITICAL CLASS, THEY

DON'T HAVE DIFFERENT IDEAS.

HICKENLOOPER AND KASICH ARE

BOUGHT BY THE SAME PEOPLE, THAT'S WHY THIS IS EVEN AN IDEA.

BECAUSE IT'S PALATABLE TO THEIR DONOR CLASS, WHICH AS WE KNOW

RUNS OUR GOVERNMENT, THE PRINCETON STUDY HAS REVEALED

THAT WE DON'T LIVE IN A DEMOCRACY, WE LIVE IN AN

OLIGARCHY.

I DON'T THINK PEOPLE GET UPSET WHEN PEOPLE FIGHT IN

WASHINGTON, DC, PEOPLE GET UPSET WHEN NOTHING HAPPENS IN

WASHINGTON, DC.

PEOPLE LIKE TO SEE BERNIE SANDERS OR TRUMP FIGHTING,

PEOPLE WANT TO SEE PEOPLE FIGHTING FOR SOMETHING, NOT

PRETENDING WE DON'T HAVE TO FIGHT FOR SOMETHING.

THEN I MISSPOKE A LITTLE BIT, BECAUSE WHAT I MEANT WAS NOT

LIKE THAT NOTHING GETS DONE BECAUSE OF THE FIGHTING, NOT

THAT THEY DON'T WANT PASSION.

AND YOU ARE RIGHT WITH THE BEGINNING OF WHAT YOU SAID,

WHICH IS THE ANSWER, POLITICS IS ABOUT FIGHTING HARD FOR

YOUR SIDE, MAKING COMPROMISES, BUT NOT COMPROMISES ABOUT

WHO LEADS THE COUNTRY AND THE PARTY.

I AGREE.

YOU ARE RIGHT, THE OLIGARCHS WOULD LOVE THIS.

THEY

WOULD LOVE FOR DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS TO COME TOGETHER TO

DO ALL THE STUFF THEY WANT YOU TO DO, ALL THE CORPORATIST

STUFF.

SLASHING CORPORATE TAXES, GUTTING REGULATION, ALLOWING

THEM TO HAVE A MONOPOLY IN EVERY INDUSTRY.

THEY CONTROL EVERYTHING.

AND THE OLIGARCHS WOULD LOVE JOHN KASICH.

THEY WOULDN'T

NECESSARILY LOVE JOHN HICKENLOOPER, BUT JOHN KASICH I

WOULD IMAGINE WOULD BE THE PRESIDENT IN THIS SITUATION.

SO

IT'S NOT A COMPROMISED TICKET, I'LL MAKE HICKENLOOPER MY VICE

PRESIDENT, THE VICE PRESIDENT DOES NOTHING, IT WON'T HAVE ANY

EFFECT.

JOE BIDEN WAS A GOOD CHEERLEADER, THE SENATE LOVED

HIM, HE WAS A GOOD LIAISON, MIKE PENCE HASN'T MADE AS MUCH OF AN

IMPACT, PEOPLE THOUGHT HE WOULD BE ABLE TO SWAY CONGRESS MORE

THAN HE HAS, BUT HICKENLOOPER WOULD DO NOTHING.

IT WOULD BE A

KASICH PRESIDENCY, EVERYONE WOULD LOVE JOHN KASICH, WHO IS

AN OLIGARCH.

THAT'S THE WHITEST FLAG DEMOCRATS COULD THROW UP.

THE VICE PRESIDENT'S JOB IS TO GO TO FUNERALS, IF THIS HAPPENED

JOHN HICKENLOOPER WOULD GO TO THE FUNERAL OF THE

DEMOCRATIC PARTY.

YOU KNOW WHO TRIED THIS WAS BARACK OBAMA.

THERE WAS A

DISCONNECT BETWEEN OBAMA AND A LOT OF THE MASSES, SO WHEN HE

SAID HE WOULD CHANGE WASHINGTON IN A FUNDAMENTAL WAY I THINK

PEOPLE THOUGHT HE WOULD CHANGE THE WAY POLITICS IS DONE IN THE

SENSE THAT LOBBYISTS WOULD BE OUT AND POLITICIANS WOULD BE

MORE ACCOUNTABLE TO THE PEOPLE.

WHAT BARACK OBAMA MEANT WAS THAT

HE WILL HELP THE TWO SIDES STOP THE BICKERING AND THE FIGHTING

AND INSTEAD OF A RED AMERICA AND A BLUE AMERICA THERE WILL BE A

PURPLE AMERICA AND WE ALL GET ALONG, THAT WAS HIS VISION OF

CHANGING THE WAY WASHINGTON WORKS.

BUT AS JIMMY SAID, PEOPLE

WANT THEIR REPRESENTATIVES TO FIGHT FOR WHAT IS GOOD FOR YOU.

THEY DO, BUT THEY DO CARE, STEVE, ABOUT NOT GETTING

ANYTHING DONE.

BUT THERE IS FIGHTING WITHIN A PARTY TOO

Pakistan awesome coins of the 2000s - Duration: 6:24.

hello people are you going so do you know what country dissing is adds 1 2 5

and 10 tick tock time's running out and if you don't know

it is Pakistan and as you can see they have buildings on the front and these

are various buildings throughout Pakistan okay this this is the 1 rupee

it's issued in 1998 to 2006 and was replaced by aluminium coin of the same

design and so as the 2 rupee but on the 1 rupee have a look closer

finally when needs to be replaced by our mininum dear people going around saying

I be it is a copper coins they'll be worth lots of money and that was selling

for a lot of money can't remember how much probably like 50 root 2 under

through fees it will get ripped off left right and centre

it took them government to sort out the problem ok so on the front is the hazrat

love Shabazz calendar mausoleum in Sindh province and foreseeing yet my ever

videos about the coins of the Emir's of Sindh and they're all quite like this

small coin Arabic and Islamic coins can be quite beautiful and down below has an

inscription that just means rupee okay soon that is EU one rupee on the reverse

is the only person on currently on a Pakistan coin and then he's a well Hamid

a lead Tina and he was a national leader and as you can see eat

unlike some over coins which are pretty flat

you see this if you have a look at this some Indian coin here the image is

pretty flat on the Pakistan coin stand that quite a lot so this has been

engraved quite deeply baby 2 rupees okay

this is the bachelor mosque in Lahore and it was built by the Mughal ruler

Aurangzeb and I have some ring said rupees that I will show like on it big

silver coins as you can see this one has a flam floor where the metal is actually

peeling off and that's just a problem with the production of this landfill

planchet whatever you want to call now 2008 and 2009 they also made the coins

without disclosed and they actually collect the book as to where for more

than a base value okay and on the reverse we just have to do

probably same State Bank of Pakistan but I can't read it so I'm not sure and it

has a crescent moon and the start of is associated Islam right this coin is Retd

and it's made out of brass concurrent coins and my dad Eldon put the mintage

is bit low so the 1 rupee also created okay here we have p.m. 5 rupees it just

says 5 and repeating who do on the front and has this beautiful pattern and aside

it goes well with the star of Islam and also this design

Cady's coin is reeded and this climber is placing two three placed in 2015 for

smaller brass coins similar to that one they disappear smaller reverse as the

crescent and star from Assam also the Pakistani flag and just as I do as well

okay did came roofies of the current coinies

are quite like this coin he has a Faisal mosque in Islamabad and King Faisal was

a Saudi King and he actually funded this mosque production now you can see from

this coin the quote the actual minting utha getting a bit poor like impact like

in India so they just some keep using the plantain to it virtually this

destroyed Oregon okay this one is our milled with shit this one is milled and

on the back it's the same as here ones just the star and crescent moon then the

other two up the top so so these are the coins of Pakistan you can probably find

Nissan still in circulation it was Sinemet inch figures for the

modern ones and yeah they're quite small they're not actually enough coins to

replace these so if you ever go to Pakistan let me know what coins you

actually get or if you're from Pakistan and watching this you can also let us

know okay so thank you very much please give it a thumbs up and subscribe to my

channel bye bye

Gone With The Wind BANNED! | Top Stories Today - Duration: 1:33.

Theater Bans Gone With The Wind From Summer Series.

The Orpheum Theatre Group announced Friday that Gone With the Wind will be banned from

its summer movie series because it's too insensitive.

Following its last screening on August 11th, the Orpheum summer movie series decided not

to include the 1939 classic film about the Civil War in the 2018 lineup.

The theater's board said they received many complaints after this year's showing.

WREG reports:

"As an organization whose stated mission is to 'entertain, educate and enlighten

the communities it serves', the Orpheum cannot show a film that is insensitive to

a large segment of its local population," the theater's operators said in a statement.

Memphis' population is about 64 percent African-American.

The historic theater in Downtown Memphis has shown the movie for decades, but this year's

event "generated numerous comments," leading to the decision.

"While title selections for the series are typically made in the spring of each year,

the Orpheum has made this determination early in response to specific inquiries from patrons,"

the Orpheum group said.

Gone With the Wind takes place on a plantation.

Some critics say that the 1939 film isn't heavy-handed enough in its portrayal of slavery

and perpetuates stereotypes and myths.

Apparently, banning movies is back in fashion.

what do you think about this?
