Waching daily Aug 27 2017

What I'm about to say might sound strange

I don't know why but you're a bit hard for me

I'm always struggling

I want you so bad

Oh baby baby please don't go

Everything, even kneeling before you

Feels so natural now

I keep begging you, endlessly

Dammit, I can't even fall asleep

I can't figure out what this feeling is

You're cold and hot, devil

Like a midsummer rain shower

After drenching my hot body

You burn up my throat again

You're the salt of the faraway desert

A shadow of the red hot equator

You make me taste a moment of pleasure

Then you burn up my throat again

You're cold and hot

My throat is burning up

I wanna taste the wet you

Listen to me (listen to me)

Accept me (accept me)

I say, I just like it all

(I just like it all)

Beautiful you

(Beautiful you)

Be mine

You're cold and hot, devil

Like a midsummer rain shower

After drenching my hot body

You burn up my throat again

You're the salt of the faraway desert

A shadow of the red hot equator

You make me taste a moment of pleasure

Then you burn up my throat again

You're cold and hot

You're cold and hot

You're cold and hot

You're cold and hot

You burn up my throat, you're a devil, so hot

Mike Papantonio's New Novel "Law And Vengeance," Exposes White Collar Crime - Duration: 8:41.

So, Pap, as I was saying before we got on air, I am very excited.

I am headed on vacation.

In fact, tomorrow morning it starts.

I'm going to the beach, and I gotta say, I want to talk to you about Abilify.

I also want to talk about what's going on with the theories behind holding opioid manufacturers

accountable, but I gotta say, I am sitting here with a copy.

It is an edit proof only because it's not out yet, but I have my Law and Vengeance copy,

your second book.

A legal thriller that I am going to be bringing to the beach, and I am psyched to read it.

I'd love to talk to you just a little bit about themes because I've interviewed people

who talk about these themes that take place in real life.

The failure of our government to prosecute white collar criminals, and then simultaneously

the problem of our government pursuing whistleblowers, particularly under the Obama administration,

in a way that we haven't really ever seen in this country.

These are themes that you bring into Law and Vengeance.

Yeah, I mean the whole idea of the book is ... When I started doing this series of books

... This is number two in a series of four books.

The third one is about the opioid crisis, and the fourth one is about banks washing

money for terrorists.

And they all, by the way, are centered around actual cases that I handle and our law firm

handles.

But this one centers around a true case.

It was a manufacturer that made a gun sight both for pistols and rifles that unfortunately

was a disaster.

It was defective.

They knew it was defective.

The gun sight would work in perfect conditions, but if you put it out in the heat, humidity

and heat would cause it to be off several degrees every hundred yards, and it cost a

lot of lives because of it.

That's a case we handled, and it builds around the same characters that came out in the first

book, Law and Disorder.

They just are onto a different case now, and the severity and the threat and the danger

is really turned up in this because it involves a police union who is mandating the use of

these, and in the process of getting kickbacks.

And it involves one of the biggest weapons manufacturers in the world.

So, Nick Deketomis and the characters in that book are under pretty heavy pressure.

Gina Romano is they key trial lawyer in that.

She's an experienced white collar criminal defense lawyer, so she's been thrown in the

middle of this case because a couple of her partners were killed.

I think it's a story you're going to like, Sam.

Hopefully you'll read it.

The goal of all these books is be able to read it and then come away after you read

it being entertained, but also learning something.

For example, you mentioned the Department of Justice and what a miserable job they've

done actually going after ... For, A, taking care of whistleblowers, and, B, really throwing

anybody in jail.

It's one thing to fine a multi billion dollar corporation ... Fine them $500 million.

They made that in a month.

These are multi, multi billion corporations, and the Department of Justice has evolved

into this thing where you don't go to jail unless you're wearing a hoodie.

If you're wearing an Armani suit, if you're driving around in a Bentley and have a Rolex

watch on, you don't go to prison.

You simply pay a fine for your fraud, for your crime, that results in the death of human

beings.

But if you're wearing a hoodie and you're out on the street selling a couple ounces

of marijuana, baby, you better hold on because you're going to prison.

Right.

If you play your cards right, maybe they make you Treasury Secretary instead of prosecuting

you for running a foreclosure mill.

Right.

A scam, yeah.

Let me ask you this, and then I want to talk about Abilify, but is there a certain amount

of liberation for you because I know there's a lot of cases that you have.

I've spoken to, obviously, a lot of attorneys.

We go to the Mass Torts Conference twice a year, and I speak to a lot of attorneys about

a lot of these different cases.

And sometimes when they settle, or sometimes they've seen things that are sealed that they've

seen in discovery, is this liberating for you to be able to talk about things?

Obviously you can't tell the exact facts, but you can talk about dynamics.

That must be ... Probably, I would image ... You tell me ... Dying to articulate to the public.

Yeah, it is.

That is an excellent point, Sam.

It's not just when you try a case and get a remarkable result.

Even though the bad guys don't go to prison, you're able to tell the story, the public.

If corporate media actually takes time to cover the stories, which they so infrequently

do.

They give it two or three paragraphs.

It's usually not enough.

But, yeah, it is liberating because these books allow me to talk about the intricacies,

for example, of the Department of Justice that people come away with the Obama administration,

for example, thinking, 'Oh, Eric Holder was great,' or 'Loretta Lynch, she was

really one of us.'

Well, no, they weren't.

They were just the opposite.

They have nothing in common with you.

They have nothing in common with the typical American.

Eric Holder comes from Covington Burling, for example.

He ran the Department of Justice, and he always sided with white collar criminals, both when

he was in private practice, and he's back with the same firm, by the way, now defending

white collar criminals again.

But when he was Department of Justice, it was so dysfunctional because he would be in

front of the camera and everybody says, 'Oh, wow.

Eric Holder fined the company $250 million.

Wow, that's spectacular.'

Well, no, often was times where companies actually made products that killed people.

They made a pharmaceutical that poisoned a liver or a kidney or a heart, and people died.

Or Wall Street that stole money from Mom and Pop pension programs, and Eric Holder would

say, 'Well, we really hit JP Morgan, baby.'

Well, no.

People lost everything.

They lost their entire life savings.

They committed suicide.

They became ill to the point to where their lives never recovered.

So we think, 'Oh, yeah.

He was really one of us.'

No, he wasn't.

And neither was Loretta Lynch.

And Obama knew exactly what was going on because those were the people that really supported

him.

Yeah, it is liberating to tell these stories in the book because you'll take a progressive

that may read the book and all of a sudden they're going, 'Wow.

I didn't know all that.'

Well, it's the truth, and so I think all these books that I'm writing right now ... You mentioned

Abilify.

That's a story that you almost can't believe.

It's a story where the company ... It's a case that's pending right now where the company,

the documents say we whitewashed the clinical data.

We whitewashed the story, and the story is that the drug is so powerful that affects

the impulse center of the brain, and we have cases where people that have never gambled

in their life all of a sudden show up on an Indian reservation gambling, and have literally

gambled everything they own away, including their house and their car.

Those are not uncommon kinds of cases.

And, you know what?

They admit it.

Abilify, the manufacturers now, they admit it over in Europe.

They warn about it over in Europe, that the impulse control problem is a disaster, but

they don't in the United States.

That was Bristol Meyers Squibb that handled that case.

But that type of conduct from corporate America is not an exception anymore.

It's the norm, so it's fun to write those books because of that.

LIVE English Lesson - SUN 27th AUGUST 2017 - Learn to Speak English - irony / idioms / prepositions - Duration: 2:03:16.

Today I'm sad to tell that the Big Ben Bell will not be ringing for a while

so instead just for you I will do the Bing bongs and I hope it makes you smile.

It's 2 o'clock Bing bong and this is live English.

here we go again yes it is Sunday once more and of course that can only mean

one thing yes it means that I am on the internet

once again talking to you as live as live can be hi everybody hello there how

are you today are you ok I hope so are you the dog happy I hope so welcome to

another live English here we go it's live on a Sunday it is Sunday the 27th

of August we will soon be saying goodbye to August and September is just around

the corner I'm in a very good mood today because this weekend we have an extra

day on Monday it is a bank holiday so no one will be working in the UK on Monday

so we have an extra long weekend so I'm feeling very happy today because

tomorrow I can stay in bed all day by the way I blocked the toilet this

morning what a morning I've had I blocked the toilet I spent 20 minutes

upstairs trying to unblock the toilet do you want to know why I blocked the

toilet really I think I will save that for another time so here we go then Wow

hasn't this week gone quickly I don't know about you but this week has gone by

very very fast so I have a super long weekend and another thing a very

exciting thing is that the weather at the moment is beautiful this week it's

been very busy also in my garden it's been very busy would you like to have a

look outside in my garden lots of birds feeding on the bird feeders this week

you can see a little blue tit and also lots of

birds joining in on the bird feeder I always like to show you the goings on I

always like to show you what is happening in my garden and you can see a

few birds there feeding from the bird feeders a very busy week this week with

nature I've had all sorts of animals in my garden including rabbits we had the

little vowel the vowel came back and also I've got the bulls all of the balls

at the moment are still at the back of the house although I have noticed that

two of the bulls have actually disappeared oh no we have the two bulls

gone I have a feeling they've been sent away for slaughter

oh dear so there are only eight bulls left in my garden now so there you can

see the birds blue tit and also I think that's a great tit as well so you can

see them there some tits flying away what else do we have

oh look here oh look it's a long-tailed tit of all the tits I think my most

favourite tit of all must be the long-tailed tit what a lovely tit isn't

that beautiful I think they have lovely little cute

faces they're very lovely oh oh now there there are two two birds now

there's a blue tit and also a great Oh a long-tailed tit it's getting very

chaotic now okay Birds we've had enough of you I normally get complaints when I

show the birds sometimes people say yeah mr. Duncan why do you keep showing us

the birds we have no interest in Birds well some people do some people are very

interested in birds we call it ornithology

the study of birds is ornithology did you know that? coming up today

then we have lots of things coming away it's a bank holiday weekend we have an

extra long weekend so tomorrow everyone in the UK will be having an extra day

for their weekend isn't that lovely Wow and the weather this week is beautiful

in fact today the weather is gorgeous now this is very unusual because

normally during a bank holiday weekend normally the weather is terrible but can

you believe it this weekend the weather is amazing so later on hopefully later

on we will be going outside live now it depends on one or two things but later

on hopefully I will be outside and of course need I mention that mr. Steve

will be here today he will be here with some flash phrases and also he will be

here live at 3 o'clock and hopefully also we will go outside with mr. Steve

into the garden because it's such a beautiful day today

I really don't want to waste the day because it's a beautiful day absolutely

lovely so August is disappearing of course in a

few days time it will be the 20th anniversary of Princess Diana's death

can you believe it 20 years since Princess Diana was tragically killed in

Paris in the accident of course the car accident that took place a very

controversial subject even to this day people are still talking about it

so in a few days time on the 31st of August it will be the 20th anniversary

of the death of Princess Diana I can't believe it to be honest with you those

twenty years have gone by very quickly where were you when Princess Diana died

what were you doing do you remember we have lots of people today on the live

chat oh my goodness it's so busy already we

are ten minutes into today's live stream and already lots of people want to say

hello on the live chat and mal is here hello I'm al thank you for joining me

today on the live chat we have lots of things coming up today lots of questions

first of all do you ever complain about things

do you ever complain now there is a sort of train of thought there is a thinking

there is a belief that British people enjoy complaining I don't know if this

is true but apparently the British really do enjoy complaining but do you

ever complain about anything do you ever kick up a fuss about something if you

kick up a fuss it means that you complain about it you make a complaint

you kick up a fuss so that's what complain means you kick up a fuss you

have bad things to say about a particular product or person or maybe

you complain about a situation such as the weather you might say oh the weather

today is is terrible so you might complain about the weather being

terrible you might also complain about the weather being too hot so sometimes

people complain even when the weather is nice so that is one of the questions

today do you ever complain about things some

people don't like to complain they feel a little embarrassed to do it and

another question today have you ever written a review for something for

example on Amazon or TripAdvisor so they are today's questions general questions

have you ever written a review for something a lot of people nowadays

when they buy something they like to write a review they give their own

opinion they talk about what they think about the product they give their

opinion on something normally a product or maybe a place so

have you ever written a review for something now later on we are going to

take a look at one of my Amazon reviews because from time to time I like to

write Amazon reviews so if I buy something on Amazon sometimes I like to

leave a little review they call it feedback feedback so feedback is the

thing that comes back to you or maybe the seller or maybe the person that sold

something to you so you send them your response you give them a review you

review the product you give them your feedback your feedback what you think of

their product so have you ever written a review a review

have you ever reviewed a product for example on Amazon or perhaps TripAdvisor

maybe you've been on a lovely holiday somewhere and you've used the internet

to express your views also do you ever complain a lot of people especially

English people now there is a little bit of a myth or maybe a stereotype that

English people enjoy complaining I don't know if this is true sometimes I

complain about things but not always not always but sometimes people do complain

about many things

some people complain that English is a pain to learn remember and recite some

people they fuss they curse Bonin curse that they have to stay up all night well

people don't whine because things will be fine I can promise you that in a

flash for there's a man about town who will help you calm down and ease all

your worries in a - you'll find him on the net

yes he's easy to get just a few clicks away that's all so people I shout it

again till I'm blue if you're learning English here's what you must do tap this

short address and click with your mouse be you at Annette bar or alone in your

house there's no course of action that could be finer youtube.com slash Duncan

in China and that is the address of my YouTube channel

so now there is no need to complain about how difficult English is to learn

you don't have to worry I am here to ease all of those worries about the

English language so don't worry okay okay by the way I have been here on

YouTube doing this for nearly 11 years

incredible I have been on YouTube doing this for nearly 11 years so you know

that you are in the right place because I've been doing it for so long so much

experience Live Chat is very busy today let's have a look who is on the live

chat Karn new June is here as usual hello carnage Irwin hi to you Eleanor is

here hello Eleanor nice to see you again on the live chat English with Zara or

Zara English with Zara says I need a friend well you've come to the right

place because we are all here together sharing our knowledge of the English

language Kien mac is here hello keen mac thanks

for joining me today ad nan Adnan Khan is here

hello mr. Duncan how are you today my name is Adnan and I am watching in

Pakistan I am very happy to learn the English language with you so much thank

you very much for that of course you are in the right place today because it's

live English all away shall we have our first flash phrase shall we here is

today's first flash phrase with of course mr. Steve see red see red is an

English phrase the phrase see red is an English expression that means to lose

one's temper if you suddenly become enraged by something we can say that you

are seeing red for example that parking ticket on my car made me see red the

parents were left seeing red after finding the huge phone bill their son

had run up to see red is to lose your temper or to become enraged to become

cross or angry over something is to see read the phrase relates to the so called

red mist that people describe seeing when they get angry see red hmm Thank

You mr. Steve

and we will see much more of mr. Steve later on he will be back with us with

some flash phrases and of course he will be live here right here don't go away

because live English is with you right through till four o'clock UK time you

can catch me of course every Sunday many people still ask mr. Duncan when are you

on when can I catch you live you can find

me on the internet every Sunday from 2:00 p.m. UK time it is live English all

the way today something very sad last week happened we lost an entertainer we

lost a legend of comedy Jerry Lewis the comedian maybe you you haven't heard of

Jerry Lewis but he was a very big name many years ago a famous comedian he

appeared in many films such as the Nutty Professor he also performed with Dean

Martin and also I think he also appeared with SATA Sammy Davis jr. and also Frank

Sinatra as well so Jerry Lewis died last week a brilliant funny man and of course

he went on to influence Jim Carrey so if it wasn't for Jerry Lewis we would we

would not have Jim Carrey so a very influential man and of course

he appeared in one of my all-time favorite movies this is a movie I've

mentioned many times the King of Comedy if you've never seen this movie I

suggest you see it it is a very very good movie funny movie it is a comedy it

is also a satire of being a celebrity or maybe someone who wants to be a

celebrity how do you become famous this film kind of discusses it in its content

so the King of Comedy starring Robert De Niro and of course the late

eight jerry lewis who we sadly lost last week aged 91 he was 91 years old and

jerry lewis for many years raised a lot of money for good causes

in fact they estimate it was billions billions of dollars raised for charities

by jerry lewis over the years so there let's have a look again another look at

the film that i recommend this is one of my all-time favorite movies it is a

brilliant movie Robert De Niro Jerry Lewis the king of comedy if you haven't

seen it I suggest you do would you like to have a look at some idioms to do with

milk I think I have quite a few to offer you would you'd like to see some idioms

to do with milk okay

English is full of all sorts of interesting words and sentences today

I'm going to tell you about an English idiom and an English proverb related to

one thing milk first of all the idiom is to milk something in its usual form the

sentence milks something refers to obtaining milk from an animal you milk a

cow you milk a goat however as an idiom to milk something means to make more of

an event or situation than is reasonable for example you have a slight cold but

you insist on being treated as if you have something really serious wrong with

you you want to get as much attention as possible and take advantage of the

situation oh I feel so ill could you make me a nice sandwich I feel too weak

to do it myself be careful you might end up being accused of milking the slight

cold you have so as to get more attention than is necessary

normally when something bad happens to someone we will show a certain amount of

sympathy and give comfort but you have to be careful not to milk that kindness

to take advantage of someone over a period of time can also be referred to

as milking this often relates to the misuse of trust and money he was milking

the company accounts for many months before being caught

there is also a proverb in English that concerns milk which is there is no use

crying over spilt milk this phrase means that there is no point in getting upset

over something that has already occurred the event has already happened and there

is nothing you can do about it there is no use crying over spilt milk

on a positive note the milk of human kindness is a nice expression that

describes the care and consideration given by people genuine care and

compassion is the milk of human kindness

did it can you see the moon the moon is moving around the moon can you see the

moon doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo did you see the Eclipse last week the

Eclipse that happened mainly over the United States and Canada so not everyone

saw it but a lot of people watched it on television

so the Eclipse happened last week it is normally when the Moon moves

across the Sun and blocks the light out completely and last week in the United

States they had a super duper Eclipse in fact they had to wait a hundred years to

see it so that's why it was so special and apparently here in the UK we won't

have a total eclipse for another 90 years 90 so we have to wait for 90 years

before we have a total eclipse here in the studio later on we are going to have

our own live eclipse so I hope you will be watching and don't worry you won't

have to wear any strange glasses you won't have to cover your eyes it will be

completely safe but later on we will be having our own eclipse

in the studio did you see it on television isn't it fascinating but

sadly here in the UK we have to wait for another 90 years before we get to have

our own special eclipse it's not fair really is it so did you see the Eclipse

another question last night did you see the boxing match a lot of people like to

watch boxing personally I think it's a little bit cruel

I think boxing is a slightly cruel sport because you're watching too

human beings punch each other and of course the aim is to knock the person

out you want to make the other person unconscious so some people think that

boxing is a slightly barbaric sport whilst others think that boxing is okay

it's good fun it's interesting to watch I'm not I'm not too sure myself I think

personally I think that boxing is a little barbaric for this day in age

don't you think we live in a very civilized world so I'm not sure if if

boxing still has a place in this civilized world I am not sure what do I

know what do I know I'm just an English teacher for goodness sake yesterday mr.

Steve and myself went to see mr. Steve's mum and on the way we were in the car

would you like to hear our little song we were singing in the car this is

something that I filmed yesterday on our journey so that was yesterday in the car

going to banbury to see mr. Steve's mum and as you can see we were very very

happy very excited to be doing that so yesterday we went to mr. Steve's mom a

few people have said mr. Duncan have you got a new hat yes this is one of my new

hats I I actually bought this hat yesterday when I went to banbury I saw

some nice hats hanging up in a shop so I thought I would buy myself a new hat do

you like it do you like my new hat some people asked mr. Duncan where did you

get that hat where did you get of that hat

live-chat is up and running don't forget mr. Steve is on his way he has

two more flash phrases and of course in half an hour we have mr. Steve live he's

right here in the studio live I can't believe it

thanks a lot for all of your lovely messages by the way from last week mega

chips is here all meg Meg chips my girlfriend says I complain like an 80

year old man so mess chips 87 his girlfriend says he

complains like an old man of 80 years old

Xavier or Java or Xavier I like to say Xavier

sounds quite nice doesn't it it also allows me to clear my throat

Xavier Garces says thanks for being so constant thank you very much for that I

am like the North Star some people say that I'm very similar to the North Star

we are both constant we are always on time and regular Nicole Jeffrey is here

hello mr. Duncan most of the people tend to complain about things including me

okay Nicole what do you normally complain about what do you complain

about do you ever complain I think I think we

all complain from time to time don't you do you think the same thing as me I

think we all sometimes complain but there is a stereotype there is a cliche

surrounding English people because people say that English people always

complain we don't honestly we are not a nation of

complainers even though a lot of people think we are but we're not honestly we

don't complain all the time yes a bee a bee yes I have a new hat you are right

the live chat is very busy today carve oh hyung says my father always

complains about me all the time so always carve oh hyung what are you

doing though maybe you are doing something bad or maybe you are annoying

your father perhaps eddying al Nahas says i always kick up a fuss

every time things go the opposite way that I planned them to go that can be a

good reason for complaining when something doesn't go the way you planned

it to when something you planned goes wrong I think you have a good excuse I

think that's okay I think if things go wrong you have a

very good excuse to complain I think so but some people complain over trivial

things small things so things that are very trivial or unimportant some people

complain about them so can people do complain but they do say that the

British complain a lot I don't think it's true

I really don't lots of other things to talk about today here are some words

that people don't use anymore have you ever heard the word CAD CAD I will write

it down for you I thought I had written it down but I haven't CAD is an

interesting word this is a word used in the past in English so there it is can

you see it CAD it is an English word that was used

many years ago but do you know what it means

CAD c a d cat i will tell you the word cad means dishonorable a dishonorable

person or a person who treats women in a dishonorable way

so that is a word we used to use a lot in English but you don't hear this word

used very often anymore CAD you might describe a man who has many girlfriends

as a CAD CAD it's a great expression it's a great word I love it also another

one spiv spiv shall i write that one down for you as well spiv these are

words that used to be used a lot in English there it is it's a great word

again it's another word that describes a type of person spiv I don't know why I'm

teaching you words that we don't use anymore

I don't know why I'm doing that really but it just seemed like a good idea

spiff what is a spife I will tell you a spiv is a smartly dressed man who makes

a living by disreputable disreputable dealings ah look at that word I love

that word disreputable can you say that can you say it after me

1 2 3 disreputable disreputable there are a lot of syllables in that word one

more time through disreputable dis rep YouTube or disreputable can you say that

can you say it fast disreputable he has a disreputable character noon

I hope you enjoyed that word coming up later on we have mr. Steve oh my

goodness I have had so much mail this week come through concerning mr. Steve a

lot of people saying mr. Steve we love you mr. Steve can we see more of mr.

Steve well you will be able to see a lot of mr. Steve later survey because he

will be here at 3 o'clock and hopefully also besides being in the studio

hopefully later we will also go outside because the weather today is absolutely

glorious it is a glorious day today Jamelia is here

hello Jamelia apparently Jamelia you like the birds some people don't like

birds they find them very annoying but Jamelia likes the birds very much thank

you very much for that the YouTube polyglot is here hello YouTube polyglot

I know that you are a big fan of my video lessons I only do certain things

once in a blue moon that's a very interesting expression if you do

something once in a blue moon it means you do it very occasionally or maybe

even rarely once in a blue moon you do it very very occasionally not very often

really you rarely do something yes that's a great expression I like that

one it kind of connects with today's theme of the Eclipse because last week

we had the Eclipse and later on we are going to have a live Eclipse in the

studio do you like that my face now looks like the moon blue those please

yourself it is now 20 minutes to 3 o'clock coming up to know

far off from 20 minutes to three and mr. Steve is here at three o'clock Maria is

here thanks Maria for joining me again today thanks so much it's lovely to see

my regular viewers here today Eugene is here mr. Duncan sometimes I write view

reviews of video games for gaming sites now I think here is a good suggestion

for you now this is a little tip from me one of the best ways to improve your

English is to practice writing in English of course you can use a pen so

you can write things down by hand and of course you can type as well so you can

type things so for example you might want to try to write a review about a

product so if you buy something on the internet maybe afterwards you can write

a review what do you think of the product your opinion of the product so

that is a very good way of practicing your English by typing or writing it can

be anything you want it to be you can write anything when I was a child I used

to love writing stories I used to sit and write stories many many stories and

I would always take them to school to my English teacher so I didn't have to do

this for homework this is something I did myself so I didn't do it because of

homework I did it because I wanted to do it so I used to write lots of lovely

stories for my English teacher mrs. Ryder I still remember my English

teachers name a lovely lady turned namely Joe have you got the golden play

button do you mean the award that YouTube gives to people now I haven't I

haven't got a a golden play award or a silver one I don't have one at all I

don't know why I think YouTube doesn't like

me it's not fair so no I don't have a gold play button and I don't have a

silver one even though I have over half a million subscribers it's not fair

Patricia French people always complain Oh Patricia I hope you are French I

really do apparently according to Patricia not me

not me Patricia says French people always complain don't know about that

honestly there is some very interesting comments today about complaining some of

them I can't read unfortunately I would love to read them out maybe I will save

those for my last ever broadcast so yes says hello mr. Duncan again tareq is

also here hello Tareq I wish that you will continue for another 50 years 50

years who knows who knows a Tsar Mossad is here watching in Egypt a big hello to

Egypt I have lots and lots of people watching in Egypt and Ray is here

watching in Romania a big hello to Romania I'm not sure how many viewers I

have in Romania but at least I have and Ray to keep me company today thank you

very much for that I do appreciate it karna do insist why don't you read my

comment I thought I did I read everyone's comments if I can if I if I

see them if I have time so carnage 'when i don't read everyone's comments because

sometimes people start complaining Milton hello Milton I love your name by

the way Milton Bravo says hi mr. Duncan wow this

is one of my favorite YouTube channels I am very happy to greet you I have

watched your videos since 2005 thank you I am from the city of Umberto

Umberto in Ecuador Thank You Milton Bravo I love your name Milton there used

to be a performer called Milton Berle many years ago Alberto says there is

something wrong mr. Duncan I can't watch you well it's not my problem maybe it is

your internet speed I think it might be your internet speed perhaps Lucero or

Lucero is here good afternoon mr. Duncan I woke up a

few minutes ago to watch me really so you've woken up especially to

watch me thank you very much Wow thank you thank you for giving up your sleep

so you can watch me janet is here hello Janet Janet Quintero I don't think we

have ever spoke before Thank You Janet for joining me today

I have found a movie for this night oh I see do you mean the king of comedy is

that what you're on about and Ray and Ray is going to watch the king of comedy

it's a great movie by the way I suggest you watch it it's very funny and also it

is very modern as well even though it was made in the 1980s because it talks

about it discusses it shows one person trying to become famous which of course

nowadays is commonplace because many people nowadays want to be famous some

people think I'm famous I don't know why I'm not famous honestly I'm not a

superstar dear me Abdi Rasheed says hello mr. then come from Sweden I'm

watching you now in Sweden you are welcome no problem

sulla adine says here in Algeria we say my eyes are red to describe when you

feel angry that's great thank you for telling me that so in Algeria if you

want to express being angry you will say that your eyes are red I like it would

you like another flash phrase from mr. Steve and then we will have today's

mystery idioms yes don't worry I know many people out there many of you enjoy

trying to work out what the mystery idioms are so the mystery idioms are

coming very soon but now we will have another flash phrase with mr. Steve a

far cry from a far cry from is an English phrase we can say a far cry from

when we are expressing that something is not the same as it was or that two or

more things are unalike to express a dissimilarity between one thing and

another you can say one is a far cry from another for example the way young

people talk to their parents these days is a far cry from when I was a child the

atmosphere here is a far cry from how it was years ago to say that something is a

far cry from is to express the way in which one thing differs from another we

use a far cry from as part of a much longer sentence for example Much Wenlock

is a far cry from the big busy cities a far cry from

and of course you can see much more of mr. Steve in around about 15 minutes

time because we will be going live with mr. Steve right here in the studio at 3

o'clock today and hopefully if we manage to do it we will go outside as well for

part of today's live stream because it's a beautiful day it's an extra-long

weekend everybody yeah I love the bank holiday weekends when we have a bank

holiday it normally means that you have an extra day added to the weekend

sometimes you can have 4 days over the bank holiday

so during Easter for example you can have Friday Saturday Sunday and Monday

as a holiday oh I really love the Easter Bank holidays so this weekend we have

the August bank holiday lots of people this weekend are going

away yesterday when we were driving to banbury mr. Steve and myself we were

driving to banbury and what were we doing yesterday in the car we were doing

something very strange what what what was going on here

right yes it is night a word a night I have no idea what was going on there

so yesterday we were driving the roads were so busy yesterday they were very

very busy I'm sure later on I will be talking to mr. Steve about that

particular subject because mr. Steve is crazy about cars he's crazy about cars

do you ever write reviews have you ever written a review for something we have

had some replies I like to write reviews sometimes sometimes I write reviews on

Amazon for example if I've bought a product and I'm very happy with it

I will write a review of course if I buy something or if I've bought something

from Amazon that I'm unhappy with I will also write a review a little bit later

on we will take a look at some real reviews it's true so reviews that I have

written and also mr. Steve will be showing us one of his reviews as well

so he will be showing it to you and also he will be reading it out as well Maria

once again says hello everybody unfortunately my internet doesn't work

very well today oh it's very frustrating don't you hate it when you want to watch

something on the internet and then you find that there is a problem with your

connection I know it's terrible so I do sympathize with you there Maria there is

nothing worse than slow internet nothing worse

tong lam new joe asks what does spam mean now this might be a word that

someone has used today in the live chat so i will mention this very briefly this

is spontaneous and here is a spontaneous word spam so if something is described

as spam it means it is something that you did not want something that you

received but you didn't ask for spam for example you might get spam in your email

box so if your if you have an email box or an email address you might receive

lots of spam so we use the word spam to describe things that you receive that

you don't want normally through the internet so I hope that helps you there

lots and lots of words today we are talking about a little bit later on we

are going to have a look at one of my ask mr. Duncan lessons many years ago I

did a series of lessons where I answered questions about the English language so

a little bit later on we will have a look at one of my ask mr. Duncan lessons

also we will be taking a look at one of my lessons about complaining and making

a complaint because that is also one of today's questions do you ever complain

about things do you ever kick up a fuss if you kick

up a fuss it means you complain you complain in a

very angry way so if you complain in an angry way we can say that you kick up a

fuss shall we have a look at today's mystery idioms yeah here they come

today's mystery idioms are on the way all you have to do is take a look at the

pictures you will see some pictures and all you have to do is tell me

what the well-known expression or idiom is in English and also what the meaning

is if you know the meaning please let me know so here is today's first mystery

idiom here it is I'm not sure if this is easy it might be a little easy for some

people so there is today's first mystery idiom but do you know what it is just

say what you see say what you see and here is the second mystery idiom I think

this one is very easy I don't know why I've made today's mystery idioms very

easy so these are common expressions in English just say what you see and there

is the first one again and for those who missed it here is the second mystery

idiom there they are if you think you know what they are

please let me know and of course the answers will be revealed at the end of

today's live stream so I hope you will stay with me till then mr. Steve is on

the way everybody ladies and gentlemen boys and girls he will be here very soon

live in the studio if you were watching last week I was talking all about Big

Ben because Big Ben has been switched off

it has Big Ben has been turned off for four years so whilst they are doing some

major repairs some essential repairs to Big Ben be the Bell itself the boom the

Bell will stay silent just in case you missed last week's live stream here it

is in 25 seconds

did you see that oh yes I hope you enjoyed that that was the whole of last

week's live English dream in 25 seconds so now you know just in case you missed

last week's stream it is available on my youtube channel as are many of my video

lessons let me just show you here you can find all of my playlists under this

video so everything that I've ever made on YouTube can be found under this video

so you will see all of my playlists some people don't realize that I have a

youtube channel it's true my youtube channel is Duncan in China that is the

name of my youtube channel many people ask why why do you call it

Duncan in China well the reason is because when I was living in China I

created this YouTube channel so Duncan in China is the name of my youtube

channel because I created this way back in 2006 can you believe it 2006 is when

I made this channel I created everything you see here the channel that you are

looking at now was created nearly 11 years ago by the way can I tell you now

there is something special coming in October because in October I will be

celebrating my 11th year on YouTube and there is something extra special coming

your way in October I want to tell you now I

really do but I can't I can't my lips are sealed

so today's mystery idioms let's have another look before mr. Steve arrives

here is today's mystery idiom moment

just say what you see that's all you have to do say what you see and there is

the second mystery idiom just say what you see if you see it say it it's as

easy as that back to the live chat because I have quite a few people to say

hello to

Jordao oh hello jordão jordão Jonas says yes mr. Duncan I watched the boxing

match last night and the result was fair ah and just I just waited for that

result so the result that that happened Floyd Mayweather I love that name if

ever there was a name that sounded like a boxer Floyd Mayweather sounds like it

do you know another name that sounds like a boxer Anakin Skywalker Anakin

Skywalker would be a great name for a boxer you can almost hear it can't you

in the blue corner it's Floyd Mayweather and in the red corner its Anakin

Skywalker but no lightsaber of course because that's unfair it's not allowed

in boxing no punching below the belt and no lightsabers Nikolai is here mr.

Duncan modern people complain more than people who lived in the past I think

you're right there I think it might have a point Nikolai I think many people in

society nowadays are very spoiled they are pampered in

spoiled sometimes when you have everything you want you can feel as if

you you want more you can always feel as if you are being I don't know left out

so we often complain about things even though we have everything we want so yes

nicolai says modern people complain more than people who lived in the past I

complain rather frequently about other people I think that's very common

sometimes I agree with the sentence the hell it's the others oh I've never heard

of that sentence before I've never heard of that but we do tend to complain about

other people and their behavior especially in public places we often

complain about what someone is doing right you know what's coming next yes

you do of course you do because it's coming up to three o'clock and mr. Steve

is on his way

we

oh I'm so excited here because it's three o'clock exactly now of course Big

Ben is not working at the moment there are no bongs from Big Ben so instead

it's three o'clock and here is mr. Steve with the Big Ben bongs there we go is it

three o'clock is it it certainly feels like three o'clock now well that was

very very that was that was brilliant I thought that was really Big Ben then

it's well I nearly did an extra one I thought I'll just keep going into a

fourth or a fifth wonder I thought never to stop at three because I don't want to

upset mr. Duncan I did I didn't know youth life show

I didn't know you could do impressions yes apparently have you have you spoken

about the Big Ben bond which is sounds strange because it's a crack in the Bell

I don't he's known about that no I didn't but aspect though apparently

the the Bell Big Ben Bell Big Ben I'll say it in a minute Big Ben's Bell

that's very bees for three bongs actually has has a crack in it I didn't

know that yep apparently and that's why it makes a slightly strange sound okay

let's get rid of Big Ben now so so say goodbye to Big Ben it is mr. Steve oh my

goodness good afternoon good afternoon he is not just a master of impressions

or years old he is also a master of disguises I didn't recognize you then

you you you looked exactly like Big Ben oh my good

so mr. Steve is here have you had a good week mr. Steve I have indeed I've had a

great week and that's been positive of course always be positive and yes I've

had a very good week thank you very much in to you mr. Duncan have you had a good

week I've had a very good week I've got a new hat here

today because of course yesterday we went shopping yesterday didn't we yes

you did we did we went shopping in Banbury yes I came with you that is

right on whether they were that you were driving the car yes and you were you

were particularly anxious to get yourself a new hat I have it because

your old one was getting a bit well you've had it a few years and let's just

say it's gone through a few wash cycles I have washed that matter I've washed

that hat so many times it might look good on camera but in in in reality it's

a it's a little faded a bit yellow so Sosa's so dear viewer what do you think

do you think my new hat is nice or do you prefer my old hat so please let me

know if you like if you like my new hat please let me know and if you don't like

it please please don't complain now we are talking about that today mr. Steve

do you ever complain yes sometimes I complain but like a lot of British

people often reluctant and complain and we just normally sit there and put up

with their particularly restaurants have you have you talked about that about the

British people being reluctant to complain about things traditionally this

this is the strange thing because apparently and this is what you often

hear from people who talk about the habits of the British people so not just

English people but British people is the fact that we do tend to complain a lot

we often complain when the weather is hot it's too hot and when it's raining

it's too wet and when it's windy it's too windy when it's dry it's too dry so

there is a kind of stereotype some people think that especially English

people but maybe British people in general tend to complain a lot but what

about you do you like to complain mr. Steve well yes we see we complain and

moan to each other but then it's if something happens for example at a

restaurant or say we did get a bad meal then with shy to complain then and

caused a scene because that that doesn't seem right

for British people to do that traditionally I think it's more so now

but yes if you're in a restaurant if the meals not quite right say you're in

America I don't want to wish to stereotype here but I think American

people are very quick to say well that's not right and that needs to be put right

my chips are cold although the sandwich doesn't taste nice and they get it

changed quickly but we tend not to do that so well I know what I tend to do if

I go to a restaurant I don't like the meal instead of complaining I just won't

go back whereas in fact if you were to complain you would be giving useful

feedback back to the owners and to the chef and maybe they'd change their ways

yes that's oh yeah we we tend to complain a moan a lot in groups with

friends work colleagues but their member out we probably would be reluctant to

complain about for example a bad meal at a restaurant that's just the psyche of

the British English person of a psyche yes that's just it just sort of the way

we behave is a type of behave so the way of the way of behaving the way of

thinking your your way of being a human in here so your psyche is your

personality or your way of behaving we don't like to cause a scene of us it's

true I don't certainly some people are very

inhibited when it comes to complaining of course there are ways of complaining

without showing your face you can actually write reviews now this is

something I mentioned earlier and I'm going to mention now have you ever

written a review for something now this is something that we're going to talk

about for a few moments because earlier I mentioned that writing in English is a

good way of practicing your your English generally so what I think is a good idea

what the thing you can do is to actually go to a website if you've purchased

something off the internet or on Amazon and you are happy with it you can write

a review now mr. Steve I leave that you have one of your reviews

right here I do I've now printed it out for me earlier

that's it and the review is right here now this is mr. Steve's actual review

I'm going to put it on the screen now here it is oh that's mine

that's my review where is mr. Steve review there it is we get it eventually

so there is mr. Steve review and I believe you have this review in your

hand as well I do here it is would you like to read it out for us

shall I shall I show the the viewers what what I was reviewing first you can

yes oh let's have a look at the product shall we right so you know it's it's

almost as if we didn't rehearse this I just go down here and get it back there

we go it's a did you go into the basement there anybody recognize that

does that look flop many people realize not many people realize that I actually

have a basement here hold this out that might give another clue underneath my

studio there is a basement it's a tire pressure gauge there we go

that goes on your tire on your on your valve of your tire or your bike or your

car whatever you under inflate sure it does go you're being very quickly I

think the viewers aren't having it you were just a blur then was I I'll hold it

up hold it up carefully and slowly there's no rush we have we have a whole

we have a whole 50 minutes yet so don't worry there's no rush okay there's the

product then what goes well right that goes into your tire valve screws in like

that this end here as I'm sure people would be familiar with if they ever pump

up the tires on their car what's wrong with this it won't come out it's good

job oh there we go gotta get that way around that's something live right that

bit goes in there in the socket of your car somewhere so you get 12 volts of

power so so like so whether you plug that in so you

it uses electricity yes your car battery although won't run it down because it

doesn't use much and then you set the dial as to what pressure you want

pressure your car tires pressure I love that word pressure pressure pressure and

and then this particular one which is why I wanted to buy this particular one

is if you're a bit obsessed about checking your tire pressures which gotta

admit I am a bit obsessed with tire pressures on my car just one of many of

mr. Steve's obsession as if obsessed every week I will religiously check my

tire pressures on the car and but it's a bit of a I don't like doing it because

normally in in the old days you'd have a separate gauge it have a foot pump I'm

sure people might have used foot pump so they might use it on their bike but I

use it on the car and then you'd use a foot pump but then you have to check

that it's at the right pressure so you would then use a little handheld tire

pressure gauge and you'd keep doing this and then maybe letting a bit out pumping

a bit more in and eventually the pressure would be right but it takes

some time but if you've got one of these which is why I bought one you just set

the pressure plug it in press the button and when it stops your tires are at the

right pressure and that's the reason why they call it an automatic automatic yes

automatic and it's also got lights on it so if I was say broken down by the side

of the roadside I could switch a flashing light on there we go and that

would keep me safe in fact I've even used it if I've done

my tyre pressures at night so there's there's obsession for you doing your

tire pressures doc can you just tell me it was so so why why is it so important

to check your tire pressure well Holocaust if you've got a tire that's

going down slowly for example you've got a slow puncture well tire pressures that

are not at their optimal level and all tire

or all car manufacturers will publish the tire pressures that the car needs to

be at will be in your manual there we go getting a bit nerdy now and

but if it's not at the right pressure yes for example and it's they usually to

Loeb let's face it people don't normally go around retire pressures that are too

high they're normally going around retire pressures that are too low and

that's using up more fuel than you should do in the car because it's

increasing resistance on the road the tire against the road surface but more

importantly than that it's actually not safe an under of late under inflated

tire even if it's down by just a small amount will mean that your stopping

distances will be increased particularly if the road is wet and you'll be more

susceptible to aquaplaning if you hit faculty learning that is if the car tire

hits standing water on the road which you can get in a heavy downpour if it

hits that pool of water then and you're going quite fast then the whole the

whole car can skid can aquaplane on the water and if your tire pressures

particularly front ones are too low it's your car's more susceptible to that it's

a very interesting word there are some interesting we're aquaplaning we're

playing I don't think I don't think that is a word that I would ever expect to

use on one of my live English lessons aqua play so it's kind of the action of

the wheel and the water hitting each other a bit like for example a water

skier hmm if you get up enough speed are on skis on water you can literally just

skip over the water yeah and she's going to slowly the skis go under so your car

once it's going at a certain speed if it hits water on the road it will it will

just go straight on it the car tire won't be hitting the road the tarmac

underneath so you will lose grip and you will just go say you going around a bend

you'll just go straight on there's some sort of resistance that it's it's a it's

a sort of physics thing isn't it a physics thing it's a physics thing

over a certain speed and your tire pressures are important because if

they're too low you're more susceptible to this so let's have a look at your

review because you were very happy with this product weren't you yes I'd read in

car magazines about this there's lots of these out there similar products can I

just say that we're not selling this by the way some people might think they

were being sponsored by this product but but the fact is because Steve is

reviewing it on his Amazon profile or on his Amazon account I think it's only

fair to explain what the product actually is that he's reviewing so

that's the reason why we're showing it we're not getting paid any money for

this I wish we were that would be nice

wouldn't it maybe each week we could review a product and then maybe someone

could could give us some money to do it so that would be very are you are you

paying me mr. Duncan for appearing on your on your show you will be getting

some residuals I shall wait for those wait for those big checks to arrive I

don't think I've revealed the name of this product there are lots of them out

there but this one caught my eye because I read car magazines as I revealed a few

weeks ago avid car magazine reader avid avid yes that means I do do it a lot I'm

very keen on doing it avid is that right which is very good

yes avid avid does something have you you you up you are passionate about

something has unit you do something with passion you are an avid reader of car

magazines I am exactly so they give reviews of products in the

car magazines so they will review different products they will review car

tires they will test for example if you wax

your car they'll test the various products that you can use to make your

car look shiny and one particular week they tested car tire pressure gauges and

I wanted a new one because my other one had broken and this one as I said you

set the gauge and it does it automatically so you don't have to worry

about what the pressure is this will work okay then

so this was selling it's almost like we're doing one of these shopping

channels here it is it's a shopping channel if for those who have just

joined us it is an English lesson this live English everything you're watching

at the moment is completely live it's mr. Steve and mr. Duncan it's not a

shopping channel okay let's have a look at your review then right it is so would

you like to read this review I've always now I don't normally write reviews but

because I particularly like this product I wrote a review well it was let's vote

off Amazon and Amazon tend to to prompt you to review the product so I thought

on this occasion I will I just put it down and what did I write about this

product whose name we will not will not reveal I put great products and just

does the job no more having to take the nozzle off and check the pressure with a

separate gauge just set the number on the dial and wait for it to stop it's

accurate - I've had this product for two years and it's still working perfectly

long leads and very well designed so that they can be round neatly back

afterwards the whole thing then fits nicely back into the strong case I've

got the case down there but I won't show it no wonder car magazines give this

product good ratings the only reason I didn't give it five stars I gave it four

stars by the way mr. Duncan four stars out of five I didn't give it five stars

because it's fiddly to unscrew the nozzle from the tire valve and unless

you do it just the right way a load of air hisses out rather annoyingly and you

end up having to do the tire again you do also need quite strong fingers and

it's particularly difficult to unscrew if your fingers are cold a better design

would have been one of those quick release nozzles with a little lever that

just Springs the nozzle off quickly that aside this is the best tire tire

inflator I've used it is a little fiddly because you you make all that effort of

pumping it up and then you to unscrew it as you unscrew all the air

hisses auntie you have to be very quick quick to get it off there are quite a

few words in that actual review of yours let's have a quick look at some of the

words now right we will have a look at the actual review again it was on the

screen and it is back on the screen so let's have a look at some of the words

first of all let's have a look nos fiddly what'swhat's fiddly if something

is fiddly bid Li right that means it's awkward or difficult to do and it's

normally refers to small things doesn't it so for example this nozzle screws

into the tire valve but it's oh it's a bit fiddly to get off because it's it's

quite tight you need strong fingers and it's awkward around the tire it's fiddly

fiddly so something very fiddly yes can you think of another example of

something being fiddly for example if you were trying to try to screw out I

say even putting up plug together and you wanted a wire a plug up to put in a

main socket that's fiddly because the wires you've got three wires I mean

you're alive and alive and earth and a neutral wire you know coke and you have

to screw them in and it's that they're little screws that you have to push the

wire under it's it's all a bit small and tight and you would say it was fiddly

yeah if you're trying to handle things or do things that are very small or

handle things that are tiny and you have to do it with precision so something

that you have to do precisely on a very small scale can be very fiddly Italy I

like that word that's great let's have a little look at your review let's see if

there is anything else there have a look here any that aside what do you mean it

what do we mean if we say that aside what are we actually expressing there

well what we're saying is that little thing that I talked about

beforehand I said that I talked a lot about the product that I liked all these

different features and then I pointed out one feature that I didn't like so

that's one small feature out of a lot of features so that's really not it is

important but it's not that important because I still like the product so I

would then say yeah all these other things are good that thing I've just

spoken about that aside so that thing I talked about the nozzle being fiddly

that aside so take that to one side take that away I still like the product as I

said that aside this is the best tire inflator I've used because no products

going to be 100% perfect it's unlikely so there's always going to be one or two

things you don't like but so if you want to say what it's good but apart from

this little thing that aside it's fine it's a good product yes so so you're

talking about the thing but then you you push the thing to the side because even

though it's a thing that is may be annoying or something worth mentioning

you can easily push it aside that aside there are lots of good things to say so

that one bad thing to say but there are lots of good things to say so that bad

thing we can push it aside that aside we can push it away and talk about the

positive things instead yes because overall you're trying to say that the

positive things outweigh this one thing you could you could say that about a

person couldn't you you could say somebody at work or colleague yeah you

could say well they're they're very good at their job they're they said that yes

but yes he doesn't wash very well does he's a bit smelly but that aside he's a

great person an extreme example perhaps I can hear you laughing but you could

say that well maybe maybe they they they chew their fingernails

that's not laughing that's heavy breathing business mr. Steve can you

show us your nozzle again oh yes would you like to see mr. Steve's

nozzle he was mr. Steve's big nozzle come on they're having yeah that's not

the nozzle that's the nozzle there we go for but goodness sakes

mr. Steve mr. Steve tried to grab his nozzle but instead he grabbed something

he grabbed something else that bit you see screws on to the top are we going

too far talking about I got your tires you think I just lived the word nozzle I

think nozzle whether I'm gonna write that down cause that that might be that

the brilliant the brilliant our most brilliant word today well let me just

write that down so sure sure is your nozzle again mister you have again let's

have a look at your nozzle long thin nozzle that's it that's it so there is

the nozzle normally a very small thing that attaches to something else

a novel yes this one screws on but some of them just push on and you've got a

little lever that's accusative I think we will leave the definition of screwing

for another time shall we shall we leave tyre inflater do you think do you think

we I think so I think I think we've done we've done tyre inflators what happed

sorry to interrupt perhaps to say is there anybody there watching today who

likes to pump up their car tyres and check the pressure is there anybody

there still watching is there anyone like me who is obsessed with I'm not the

only one who's obsessed with that with tyre pressures my mother is the same I

bet I don't think I have ever ever sat for nearly 24 minutes talking about tyre

inflation my mother always thinks her car tyres

are a flat shoe it says when I can't go to visit will you check check my tyre

pressures pleased because she always thinks they look flat but they very

rarely are but but you're very helpful that's why that's why you do it and I

take this with me yes that's why you do it you see because

you're such a helpful chap I think so so that was that that was a positive review

of a product very good no that's excellent

and as I said earlier and reviewing things writing things writing reviews

writing anything is a very good way of practicing your English exactly we're

going to go outside in a minute but we are going to take a look at a lesson all

about making complaints and leaning and we are going to do that right now

afterwards we are going to go outside myself and also mr. Steve will be

outside underneath the damson tree and we will be talking all about irony do

you know what irony is and also we'll be taking a look at one of mr. Steve's

products that he bought recently we will be having live unboxing

you know the world of English is a fun and exciting place to be I'm so glad you

could join me for another lesson

hi everybody this is mr. Duncan in England how are you today are you ok I

hope so are you happy I hope so in this lesson we will look at a common social

action that most of us will find ourselves doing from time to time making

a complaint

the word complaint is a noun and means a statement that is made concerning

something which is unsatisfactory or not to your liking

you say that you are not happy about the quality of something you show your

disappointment verbally there are many words connected to complaint or complain

such as criticize gripe grumble object MOU protests whimper and whinge excuse

me a moment I'm a little thirsty they hit the spot when you complain to

someone we say that you make a complaint you put forward your complaint you draw

attention to a problem you have found a fault you show your dissatisfaction

there are two ways of making a complaint you can make it in a nice way or you can

make it in a rude way nice ways to make it in place excuse me this food does not

taste right could I have another meal sent to me instead I have found a fault

with this shirt could I please replace it with another one

I'm not happy with the cable TV service you are providing I would like to have a

disconnected place rumored ways to make a complaint what do you call this food

it tastes disgusting get me the manager now look at this shirt it's rubbish how

can you sell this junk this cable TV service of yours is awful I hate it

coming take it away when a person complains in a rude way we can say that

they create a fuss kick up a storm make a scene

caused a commotion protest out loud blow the whole thing out of proportion ooh

look what I've just found on the floor broccoli do you like broccoli it is

always best to make a complaint in a calm and polite way as being rude will

only make the situation much worse and you could find yourself with a much

larger and more serious problem to deal with

after making the complaint you will normally receive an instant response

especially if you are making it directly in front of the other person of course

if you are making the complaint in writing then you may have to wait for a

long time before your complaint is handled or resolved

when you receive a complaint you will usually deal with it or handle it as

quickly as possible you want to make the complaint go away

you wish to resolve the complaint you would like to put the problem right you

try to placate the person making the complaint for example oh I am so sorry

about that please allow me to bring you another

meal oh I'm terribly sorry I will fetch you a new shirt from our stockroom right

now I'm sorry to hear that you are not happy with our cable TV service

maybe we can offer you some different channels instead we can also make a

general complaint about things around us for example the weather oh it's too cold

today I really do not like winter we can complain about our job Oh

my boss makes me work too hard I need a holiday you can't even make a complaint

about yourself oh I really hates my nose it's far too long you can never find the

end of this there is another definition of the word complaint that means you

have an illness or you feel sick and unwell normally relating to a certain

part of the body for example a stomach complaint or an ear complaint I think

you should go and see a doctor

making a complaint is a normal occurrence and happens very often but it

is best not to complain too much about things or you may find yourself being

called names such as old winger mids picker or moaning mini sadly I have to

leave you now but please do not complain because I will see you all again very

soon like promise this is mr. duncan in

england saying to tar for now

and there it was a lesson all about making complaints do you ever complain

do you ever make complaints about maybe a product or a place or even a person in

the workplace of course we can make complaints about our work colleagues if

one of your work colleagues behaves in an inappropriate way we can complain

about it so as promised we are going outside we are going outside live mr.

Steve is waiting for us we are talking today about lots of things we have the

mystery idioms I will show you the mystery idioms very quickly for those

who haven't seen them yet there is the second one and there is the first one

but what are they what are today's mystery idioms there they are we have

lots of people today talking on the live chat Thank You Sergio good memories mr.

Duncan are you thinking of carry on with those those videos would you like to

carry on with those videos till you reach lesson 100 it would be great Thank

You Sergio well of course nowadays I'm making all sorts of videos are making

different types of lessons and of course I'm doing my live English as well now we

have many many new people many new followers many new viewers are joining

every single Sunday don't forget you can catch me here live every Sunday from 2

p.m. UK time I am here live and direct on YouTube so let's go outside waiting

for me in the garden is mr. Steve mr. Steve is waiting we are going live

outside and now I will join mr. Steve as well

because right now we are going to talk all about irony and also we're going to

take a look at one of mr. Duncan's sorry mr. Duncan's birthday present that it

was bought for me by mr. Steve but there is a slight problem with it so let's go

out to the garden right now

who mr. Duncan's on his way how about a shift over a bit because you won't have

any room to get on the camera and he won't like that I can tell you ha there

he comes ha ha here's mr. Duncan I'll just move

over move over get out the way did you see that he's trying to steal my glory

trying to hello trying I'm trying to steal my glory so we are live on YouTube

now mr. Steve we were talking about making complaints today yes and you have

a complaint to make right now don't you well yeah well right now well I have

made a complaint about a product yes is that what you mean right

a complaint about a product now I bought this product and this flies all over me

here ha ha we're under this tree and there's all sorts of insects landing on

me there's another one right so I bought this product for mr. Duncan's birthday

and it didn't work so it arrived I wrapped it up gave it to him for his

birthday and it didn't work so shall I show

people what it is mr. Steve bought me something for my birthday and it's

broken it was broken I'll just it's down here there we go

it's a it was a clock if he's upside down it was a clock this is going very

well so would you like to unbox because apparently on YouTube now millions and

millions of people love watching other people open boxes I don't know why this

really I don't know why it's so popular on YouTube but lots of people millions

of people love watching other people open boxes so mr. Steve would you like

to open this box Lag young and show us the thing that you

bought for me this is now broken right well in fact it arrived broken didn't it

it doesn't work yes now this product arrived and I noticed straight away I

thought this packaging looks a bit old and if I put that towards the camera can

you see that there that's where you get into the box

and I thought this looks a little worn like it's a bit it's been opened and

shut a lot and also on the back there is what looks like a price label that has

been peeled off so my immediate thought was I bet this product is second-hand

will it work properly so I was a bit worried when I packed it up for mr.

Duncan that when he opened it and put the battery in that it wouldn't work

and sure enough oh right let's do that let's unpack it shall we what excitement

right so yes it's very exciting so I unpacked it like what mr. Duncan

did I'd already had a look you could stand back a bit so that that's it yeah

hold the box so here's the clock they don't make them anymore I've already

checked this product is not available so I'm not going to upset anybody so there

we go what a lovely looking clock don't you think I thought that would be nice

and bright on mr. Duncan set and would show everybody the proper time and it's

radio-controlled so it's accurate too so it says on the box one second in

something like a million years which is very accurate however it turned out to

be anything but accurate because when we put the battery in it didn't work and if

while it did work that the the hands went round but it was showing the wrong

time yes and no matter what we did it was showing the wrong time and you know

what I think mr. Duncan I think this product was secondhand I think it had

been returned and by somebody because it didn't work and the companies I bought

it from I just packaged it back up and sent it out to

me so I put a complaint on so we just talked about me positively reviewing

that tire pressure gauge so well shall be giving this product anything but AG

well it's actually probably a good product I think the problem was they

sent me a faulty one so this clock this clock gets thumbs thumbs down this this

clock arrived broken it doesn't work it is faulty and mr. Steve believe

that this clock was was already returned it it already been returned by someone

else so because this clock is broken it is no good it doesn't work properly as

described that's quite good that that's an improvement I think if it doesn't

work properly so so what are you going to do now mr. Steve what are you doing

now with this I'm well I'm going to get my money back obviously because but I

bought it up Amazon there very good it's faulty so I'll get my money back

everybody knows that that's actually interesting what you did there

you put that clock in front of my face because some people say to people about

their face they described a human face as a clock don't they do they yes they

say oh look at his clock sometimes people will say that that's they will

use that as an expression we can use clock as an idiom to see something to

spot something so if you clock something it means you see it you observe it you

notice it so did you clock that beautiful girl over there clock

something so clock can be used as an idiom to mean see or observe something

normally from afar you clock something you notice it he wasn't joking by the

way that there is a beautiful girl over there yes and she's just run off I'm not

surprised I tell you what what is going by behind us we've got the balls in a

moment they're walking by at the moment loose thanks they don't come into the

garden so besides the broken clock we are also going to talk about something

else today something called irony irony irony I've got it written down somewhere

wait there he's got it written down I've got it written down somewhere just a

moment mr. Steve could you please hold the fort that's a great expression if

you hold the fort it means you you stay in charge while

the other person goes away so I'm in charge but I'm asking mr. Steve to hold

the fort whilst I go away he's gone yes cause he thinks he's in charge but it's

me I'm brains behind the whole operation if

only that were true right let me show you something while mr. Duncan goes off

to get his piece of paper with the word irony on well this is a tree a damson

tree and you might be able to see they look like little plums they're not quite

ripe yet that's a bit bitter you've heard of plums these are damsons

they're slightly bitter versions of plums but they make very nice Jam so I

thought I'd talk about that while mr. Duncan goes out to get his piece of

paper with irony on oh that is very sour bitter sour cause it's not ripe yet well

mr. Duncan's back here with his piece of paper so I shall move aside eat the

Danson's mr. Steve let them eat them all just dump their dams and he hasn't seen

I've just done that I must be honest I don't like damsons they're they're a

little too bitter they're very bitter they're very sour I just said that okay

well here we go then irony here's the word that a lot of people misunderstand

now irony is often used when we want to show the opposites of an action or a

situation so when something occurs that reflects the opposite or the opposite of

what is being done we can use irony irony for example you might go along to

a place where someone teaches people how to stay fit and healthy but the person

giving the lessons is fat that can be irony

so the ironic thing is that the person who is telling you to stay thin and

healthy is fat so we have the opposite thing occurring so we can describe that

as irony mr. Steve I believe you have an example of irony

yes actually as you were talking about teaching then I thought of it I thought

of an example of irony say for example mr. Duncan who is an English teacher why

to show that word irony written on a piece of paper and it was spelt

incorrectly then well aside from the fact that we'd all laugh probably you

could describe that as irony because he's supposed to be good at teaching

English but then he would show you the incorrect spelling so that would be

ironic is that correct I never spell words incorrectly spell

sometimes okay sometimes I spell words incorrectly but this word is not

incorrect it is spelt perfectly irony so maybe an English teacher might be

teaching people how to speak English well but their English is terrible we

could say that it's very ironic so that is another example of irony you might of

course go along to a funeral and you go along to say goodbye to someone who has

recently died but you do it on your birthday we can say that that is sad

irony so sad irony is something that happens with an opposite but it is also

emotional as well quite often negative emotions are connected with sad irony

for example going to a funeral on your birthday because the two things are

opposites yes so life and death yeah so you could go to a funeral but on the

same day the person who's died son or daughter has a baby on the same day that

would be slightly ironic as well I think or another one yeah you go to your

doctor and he tells you to stop smoking because it's bad for your health

and then you see him out and about puffing on cigarettes that would be

irony as well it would also be there's another word for that what would he be

what would he be if he was telling you if a doctor was telling you to stay

healthy but he was smoking he would be a hypocrite hypocrite hypocrite yeah so a

person who tells you to do something but the thing they are telling you to do

they do the opposite so someone who is telling you to stay healthy

might do something that's unhealthy we might describe them as being

hypocritical or a hypocrite so that particular example the doctor was

telling you not to smoke he was he was being it that's an ironic situation and

he's also being hypocritical at the same time and we all know I know doctors that

tell you tell you to lose weight and they're about twenty stone themselves

over that's ironic not very good and not setting a good example but any more

examples of irony that's it I think we've used irony now so if you don't

understand what irony means now I don't think you ever will really thanks a lot

mr. Steve is that it for me we were going to talk about guardians of the

galaxy but we've only got ten minutes left

but are you coming back next week would you like me to come back I would love

you would you like mr. Steve to come back next week would you I can't hear

anything nobody's saying anything I can hear something

it sounds like it sounds like no no we don't want mr. Steve anymore no make him

go away oh well we all look at the reviews of

this lesson to see whether they're good or bad as to whether I come back next

week now there's a link is that a link that's going back to something that we

just talked about was reviews it is a sort of link I suppose maybe we can have

reviews at this lesson anyway we will say stars for me please

I'm sorry mr. Steve we have to cut you short because we've only got nine

minutes left and then I have to go right goodbye see you next week what what are

we eating tonight salmon salmon tonight everyone we're having salmon for supper

fish I can't wait gonna defrost it first bye bye bye bye see you later I'm going

back to the studio now

ah I'm back in the studio now goodness me

that was that was rather chaotic don't you think I hope you enjoyed that

something different we had mr. Steve in the studio and also we went outside as

well I'm a little out of breath because I've been running around so today's

mystery idioms I will give the answer in a few moments the mystery idioms there

is the first one and there is the second one - mystery idioms would you like a

little bit more of mr. Steve because mr. Steve has one more flash phrase one more

flash phrase to show us so here is mr. Steve now with his third flash phrase

you can never have too much mr. Steve

a chip on one's shoulder a chip on one shoulder is an informal English phrase

the phrased chiffon one-shoulder means an ingrained feeling of resentment or

bitterness created by a sense of inferiority we might say that a person

has a chip on their shoulder if they act aggressively over what they view as

unfairness or inequality for example most of those shouting about their

mistreatment seemed to have a chip on their shoulder instead of complaining

they should each do something about that chip on their shoulder the phrase itself

is often seen as offensive and is often used as a form of provocation a chip on

one's a Shanda Oh mr. Steve you do that so well so there was today's final flash

phrase from mr. Steve I don't know about you but mr. Steve seems to be seems to

be popping up in my live English streams more than I do

do you ever use prepositions this is something I'm going to talk about next

week as well we're going to talk about prepositions next week but how easy is

it to spot prepositions how easy is it to find prepositions well now it's time

to play spot for preposition

yes it's the quiz show everybody loves to joining with sparked the preposition

preposition where you the viewer has to spot the hidden prepositions within

sentences if you guess right you will win this amazing star prize which this

spoon so are you ready to play it's time for our first spot the preposition here

sofa the cat sat behind the sofa can you spot it quickly quickly quickly can you

spot the preposition it's hidden in there somewhere quickly chop-chop time's

up the correct answer is behind so did you get it right

No ah that's too bad maybe you'll have more luck with the next one they all

stood at the bus stop they all stood at the bus stop

can you spot the preposition it's hidden in there somewhere

time's up the correct answer is at did you get it right were you correct

if so well done and now here comes our next spot the preposition I can tell you

feel angry from the look on your face I can tell you feel angry from the look on

your face quickly quickly the clock is ticking I

can tell you feel angry from the look on your face here comes the answer the

correct answers are from on did you get it right I hope you did here comes our

next Spa the preposition I learn English throughout the day I learn English

throughout the day here's the answer the correct answer is throughout so how well

did you do did you get it right

make the sentence flow to make it really go to give it some jazz to give it some

pizzazz you got to how preposition thank you

that is almost it from me for today oh my goodness we are coming up to four

ROAD TRIP TO EUROPE | PART 3 - Duration: 5:41.

We packed up our home to our campervan

and went for a 31-day road trip

Over 6000 kilometers and 6 countries in our mind

Europe as destination

Travel with us

ROAD TRIP TO EUROPE - part 3 -

Sponsored by KABE-ADRIA Oy & J. Rinta-Jouppi Oy Lappeenranta

Morning! We just left Copenhagen

- DENMARK -

- SATURDAY 27th May -

Our first stop today will be a deer park in Vejle

But my relatives haven't heard about it at all

so we are not sure what kind of it is

But we will find out :)

After that we will continue our trip to the Wadden Sea National Park

- today or tomorrow

And we have decided to go to some campsite for a night

because criminality have started to appear more and more here

and the threat of ending up to be their target/victims

This is totally new thing to us concerning campering/caravanning

At our ROAD TRIP UP NORTH you weren't even able to be afraid of that

because the whole atmosphere were so different

So that's why we have to think again our route and plans

Anyhow we are continuing driving Denmark further

but we will be staying for nights in campsites

On the day before yesterday we got scared because

when Simo went to empty our chemical toilet, somebody running closer to our vehicle

and I managed to close the doors just before he was

close to our front door

And I was just thinking that is Simo able to come back to our motorhome

what is happening

Luckily that situation turned out good and Simo managed to get back in the motorhome

That was a good warning fo us!

We drive to Vejle across the Great Belt Bridge

This bridge is paid one too

This time it was charged by your vehicle's weight, we guess

The staff asked our vehicle's weight

The cost of acrossing the bridge was 50 euros / 365 DKK

This one was cool too, worth the price - at least once

- THE GREAT BELT BRIDGE -

- VEJLE -

We come to this Vejle City Camping

and this turn out to be a really nice campsite

They have very nice and friendly customer service, giving instructions about the city etc

The sun is setting down and

we are heading to a deer park near here

Hope we will see some deers

- VEJLE DYREHAVEN -

This turned out to be a proper park

You enter the park through the gate

and there are deers wandering around the whole park

But it's not allowed to feed the deers

There are several deer parks in Denmark, this isn't the only one

Simo: "They are wagging their tails! :D"

We found some deers

They are just wandering around - so cute!

This was a nice place to visit!

And the deers were so tame but they still have a big forest to wander around

It was nice to visit here!

Now we will cycle through the harbour

back to the motorhome and go to sleep

ON THE NEXT EPISODE:

We get chance to drive on the beach! :D

I think next year I buy another motorcycle

but I'll sell this one

ooo this is good

Otherwise I mean this pit bike to make for

stunt

To be able to do acrobatics

I think I'm behind it

Actually here's your picture

this I want to have on the pit bike

It would be great

they would have recorded stunt

hot under the helmet

oh shit

uuuu shit

Omg well I saw this hole

Good that I did not go over here

I would break

omg fuck

who's down here

Someone is down, fuck

maybe police

I was already scared that this was the police

and this came my friend

I'm so hot under the helmet, I'm all wet

oh

I think I understand, how to wheelie

I no longer have the nerves to learning wheelie

because my camera all the time

down going from helmet and hot is

We hope that now there will be no police
