Hey guys! I'm Sayyid from Learning and Development at GO-JEK.
My main task is to create a fun learning program for employees at GO-JEK
so they can gain more supporting knowledge and skills that can provide a wider impact for the community.
What is 'learning'?
First, I want to explain about learning, but before that I want to ask, what is 'learning'?
If you think that 'learning' is like reading a book, watching a video, taking a lesson or listening to seminars, I think it's not quite right.
So, 'learning' is a process that causes a change of skills, your abilities, or knowledge in your head.
So when you feel that your knowledge increases after you do an activity and one such as getting good at doing something, that's what 'learning' is.
How to be an active learner?
Here's a few things to follow to become an active learner. What is an active learner?
Active learner is a learner who really strives to achieve goals from the learning process.
First is to be proactive. What is proactive? You should be diligent in searching for a variety of learning resources not only by reading books,
but also participating in seminars or sharing sessions from people who are more expert or practicing materials that you have learned.
Second is having a strong commitment and engagement. What does it mean? The learning process mostly have many obstacles from our own selves.
For example, commitment with time and become focus on the material that being studied.
Next one is the obstacles from the external. The examples are when you're invited to go to cinema with your partner or having meal with your parents, it's a hard decision right?
Next, once you have strong commitment and engagement, you need to connect your prior knowledge with the new one.
For example, if you are looking at a cool presenter and you have a different presentation styles and
you combine her/his style with your style, and it'll become a super cool style. Next thing you know, you become a super cool presenter.
Last but not least, it is to relate to the social context. For example, when you adapt in a new environment. You come to the new office,
the first thing you have to see are what kind of style do people have, their habits, and how they joke around.
That means that you connect the prior knowledge to the context social. So you have a great strategy to adapt to the new environment.
All of those I've mentioned, 4 things that I want to wrap up:
First is to be proactive. Second is to have a strong commitment and engagement.
Next is to connect your prior knowledge with the new one. And the last one is to relate to the social context.
Hopefully what I say is useful and you can become a more effective learner.
Thank you very much!
