Do Manta Rays feel pain? - Kona, Hawaii - Duration: 16:58.

Aloha this is Martina Wing live from Hawaii talking about

Manta Rays. It's Wednesday 11 a.m. I'm back here talking about my true

passion these Manta Rays. Of course I have two Manta Rays here to show you.

As you know we have abundance of Manta Rays here that I see along the Kona Coast and thanks

for being here. I always like to share my knowledge and

my imagery that we accumulated over all these years on Wednesdays.

Let's dive right into this. Where are we we? We are in Hawaii. We're on

the Big Island. This is where I live. I live here in Kailua Kona. I've been diving with

the Manta Rays for about 19 years. I dive with them and film them. This has been the

biggest part that I've done all of these years. I snorkel guide, dive master, and I educate about them.

This is just my thing. Tara is back super (FB live)

Thanks for being here. For many years here on the island

we've had an incredible population of Manta Rays.

which they have learned to come to dive sites. We have people doing night dives here.

At the night dive it accumulates plankton from the lights, then the Manta Rays show

up in abundance. Well sometimes one manta, sometimes more.

We have these two dive sites here that I regularly talk about, the airport location and Keauhou.

If there's something you'd like to learn more,

then check out the other Facebook lives we have done. Today, I will talk about something

that is called the healing powers of Manta Rays.

I have two really cool examples.

These two Manta Rays where you will see

how they went through injuries,

man-made injuries in this case. Then how they actually were able to heal themselves

and what's the time frame in for the injuries - for the

manta rays to recover. For that I prepared a few things for you I'm going

to switch the camera around so flip the camera so you can see better and let me

do this very quick and I keep talking here we go

The healing powers of manta rays. I'm going to switch back one

time in-between these video clips I'm going to show you because I also have props

on it on the other end but so bear with me that I'm going to switch over two times

today but let's dive right into it and talk first about Melainah Ray

and then later on I talk about Hans Ray. Lets go to the next slide is

this one. This video clip is normal swimming behavior I

want to establish first how manta rays look like when they swim or how they behave

when they come to us during the night dives with the lights accumulated the mantas

just enjoy the abundance of food and quite often they do this barrel rolls or

rolling in front of us or just go in figure eights

come pretty close to lights because the light is where the food is. This

is the footage of normal behavior. This was on February 15th. I just

want to play this one more time.

I want to establish real quick

this is was February 15, 2011, Melainah Ray was fine doing good and

there was no injury on her and she was doing her barrel rolls. Now I want to

switch to the next footage and we are at ten days later and unfortunately this is

going to be a little bit cruel for you but this is the real thing this is

how Melainah Ray was injured and you see a very deep gash

on her wing. I show you this footage definitely for

how behavior has changed. Now check out how slow she swims, she still around my

lights. These are bright lights and there should be food but

she's not feeding. Her mouth is closed and she's trying to maneuver as

usually does but if you ask me I think there's something off. She is not only

visually injured but I believe that she feels pain and she knows she cannot

move. She wants to move normally but she just cannot.

This was the entry question do manta rays feel pain and I

think I made my case right away that yes mantas feel pain and when you see

normal behavior to how she moves now . She's trying to make it

work like animals do you know they keep going but she's definitely behaving

differently. This is the end of the clip I want to go to the next

picture and I have some close-ups of these

injuries, not pretty but brace yourself but that's the way it goes.

Here's the injury on how right-wing, pretty deep. The question is always how does

that happen. I'm gonna get to the see in a second then the next one is a picture

on the same night so we took the pictures on the same night February 25th.

More of a close-up same night and

you can see. Gene Lafferty is here. Gene, how are you doing, thanks for coming

today. The injury is very red and then

the next one image I want to show you is how deep it is and how wide the wing

is. Here you can see really bad injury. We can cannot say

that any differently. Now we're going to jump a little bit about seven days

later. Thanks for the shaka Gene. Thank you. March 3rd so it's about seven

days later I'm not sure if that was a leap year or not but in six, seven days

later. You can see it's still super red nothing has really has changed for her

behavior wise she was just still going slowly around us but she showed up. I

mean this is a good sign she was still around the campfire these lights

that we put out and maybe you see a little bit of healing here around the

wound. Now I'm jumping to the end of the month and nice surprise check this

out. How the wound is healed up just around here, the depth, of course

it didn't heal back together it just stays the same depth of it but

definitely the wound is healing so this took now four weeks since the original

injury. Finally I'm jumping to six months later to

September and you cannot see no redness anymore. The depth of the wound is there

but there's no redness to it. The pictures were all taken at the same

time, September 9th and that's how she looks like today, six years later. She's

still going strong. We don't see her as we used to do. In the years 2012, 2013 and 2014

we saw a lot at night but in the last few years, the last two years we haven't

seen as much. She changed her behavior and where she feeds these days.

I'm going to switch over quick. I want to show you what maybe could have

caused this. Let me just flip over. Thank you

I have some props here and want to show you some fishing line that we've taken

of manta rays. This is a pretty thin line. I don't think that was

the cause for the injury. This is one of the lines we had. I do believe that this

all was man-made stuff. Carrie is here too.

Thank You Carrie. I see you tomorrow night, can't wait!

The next prop is a little thicker fishing line you know like goes

like this and this is all stuff we've taken out of mantas over the years.

Now this line is a little thicker, who knows. I don't think it was the

injury from Melainah but just give you an idea what these mantas have to deal

with. There is one more, that's a small one but just check out how much line we

have here. I think that's incredible. This is from line when the

fishermen come from shore, throw their hooks in and then the manta

gets hooked. It takes off and then the line just throws out.

I don't really know what happened to Melainah but I want to show

you a hook that we took out . This came off Vicki Ray. This was

an incredible encounter. I have footage of that too but I didn't

I'm not gonna play it today. For Melainah Ray maybe it was more of a

fishing line just really going in and cutting it through. Maybe it was

propeller. We don't know. We don't really know. I just wanted to give you some props

and what it could have been. We are still discussing

what happened to Melainah. Michelle is here too. It's quite a party today. I like

it. Thank you. Thanks for being here. This was all about Melainah Ray

and how she got injured and how she healed up and I have another example

for you I'm gonna switch back over to the footage. This is the next manta ray,

and his name is Hans and we have some footage of Hans Ray. That's July 11th

2014. This was the first night we saw him and you will see here on his cephalic

fin. Something is really wrong and behavior-wise he used to be

like all the other mantas, just swim around but in this case he's really

jerking around and on the outskirts. He doesn't want to come close and is

not happy. It's making a loop into the divesite and then

immediately goes back out. I was diving that night and I didn't see him

again. Lucky for us he came back the next night. The next clip

is July 13th, two nights later and several dive masters tried to

rescue him. There was Jordan Davis

and Jeff Millisen.

I filmed Jeff when he takes the hook out of him. Hans Ray comes in and he thinks

he wants to feed, that's for sure and here Jeff is going to reach out and takes the hook

out that had cut down his cephalic fin so badly. He was gentle, a super

rescue from Jeff and you can see the hook was not too big but so much damage

to the animal. I want to play that again for you. Its cool how he gently

removes the hook. Good job Jeff! We've rescued many manta

rays over the years, obviously with all the lines but this was definitely a good

gentle approach. I'm very proud of our community to always do the right thing

and trying to fix things for these animals.

That's July 13 and the next clip is the same night

after the hook came out, Hans Ray came close to my camera.

Another cool picture but do you see how damaged this cephalic fin is, see how

deep the gash is here. The cephalic fin has almost no use to it anymore.

The right left side is okay, the other side is just deeply cut down.

I'm going to show you that again, how deep it cut because I have a really

nice surprise for you with the next clip. I am trying to make this a happy

ending and also look at the back of his body. There was fishing line wrapped

around him with some damage on

the bottom right here. Now we're going to September

and September 18th. You won't believe what you will see, this is the same manta ray and look

at his cephalic fin. It actually healed back together! To me

this was just unbelievable how you would have to look for this area here. This is

what was injured, also the back healed back together.

From July August September, it's in a two month period

he healed up this much. His cephalic fin is not totally usable but

the healing part of this I think is

incredible. If you all agree give me a thumbs up or something like it.

I want to show you the good news here again this manta is lucky that

it had these healing powers and I think I rest my case.

I do believe manta rays feel pain, it behaves differently and all the years

I've seen this when they came in to the divesite with the hooks. They were always

like "We don't like it". Melainah Ray recovered, it took about six months to

be fully recovered and Hans Ray healed in about two or three months.

I think this is pretty cool stuff and I love "my" mantas and I know you

love them too!. Anyways I'm going to switch back over. I think that's it for my

presentation.

That's my case "Do mantas feel pain". I do believe they feel pain,

check out the footage if you started a little bit later into the into this

Facebook live and thanks for being here. If you want to watch the recap of

course as this is all good stuff to watch. When I prepared for this Facebook live I

wanted to talk about the mantas' healing powers and Michelle created

my outline you know, I have to be structured and that's

what my teacher Tracy tells me all the time but then she came up with how do

mantas heal people? I mean I could make another Facebook live and bring you

many many stories but I do believe when you see mantas in their natural

environment there's so much that goes on in you (including myself).

I did it the very first time in 1998, it was a very sad chapter of my life. I

saw these manta rays and something clicked in my head but I do not want to

talk about me tonight, I want to show you this email.

Her name is Elica and she came out in September. She snorkeled with the

manta rays here, I took her out with Michelle and Elica sent me a long

email how profound and touching it was for her. I thought it was

very interesting and I will share with you a few words from her where she

said the Moonlight Manta with Martina and Michelle and the mantas were definitely

a highlight of our trip. We have many people saying seeing mantas at

night it's the highlight of that trip. Elica works in Silicon Valley she has

a startup company and we talked about it briefly and she was really nervous at

night when we went out but she enjoyed it so much. She was glowing

like everybody actually glows but she stuck out because of this email.

She knows that she needs to connect back to nature. She said Silicon Valley

and this environment is so competitive and just trying to be

compassionate to these people, even in business you can be compassionate and be

fair. But Silicon Valley doesn't really have that environment and so

she's so happy that she came to Hawaii she knew that she wanted to rest here and

recover and refuel but seeing the mantas gave a push and she

actually ends this email that maybe they can move to Hawaii. Silicon Valley is

just a temporary home for her, maybe she one day she comes to Hawaii and can

settle here and I do wish that. I do wish that many people have the ability to at

least come to Hawaii and see what's going on and maybe change their behavior

and be more compassionate for animals and to each other.

It's what the world needs and I know Carrie did it before Tara did it

before. Gene, Michelle, you've all seen the manta rays before. Leave a comment down

below and tell us in a few words how profound it was and changed your life

seeing the manta rays in their natural environment. That's my call to action

for today. If you have good stories to share with us, if you've seen

mantas before, if you want to see them, leave a comment in the comment section

give me a Facebook like and I love to connect with everybody. This is my

story for today I see you again next week Wednesday. Thanks Gene. Thanks, big

Mahalo. Mahalo by the way for everybody who doesn't know that means

thank you in Hawaiian and I appreciate that as well. I see you again next week give me a

like give me a share, talk about mantas and how they touched your life and see you

later. Thank you so much! bye-bye!

BLKMRKT - EP02 - A l'Assaut des Balkans: Lac de Karersee, Col de Giau, Arrestation policière ! - Duration: 11:16.

Ofenpass, Switzerland, the 7th of August 2017

We woke up with the sound of the river, here this morning

The weather is absolutely different of today, and that's great

we really need sunshine !

We make some fire again ( just 30secondes to restart the fire of yesterday)

and let's chill a bit around this amazing place

I though i had to show you how this place is beautiful ..

Check this out ...

We're preparing slowly before teaking the road again

bye bye little fire !

We try take the road as soon as possible because we have 150km to do before starting the roadbook of this day

When we go out of the forest,

Balou felt on the dirt with the CB500

We cross the Swiss border and we're now in Italy, in direction of the lake of Karersee

This is so beautiful ...

We finally caught our late of yesterday

We try to cross all the italian villages which are situated beetwen Passes

but there is so much people on the road, that makes it so difficult to keep a good pace

And like in all our trips ....

It's 30 euros ?

I got to go ...

Well, it's time to take a stock of the situation

Balou was stopped by the Police and he tooks 30 euros because of his ID and the mirrors

This is because of the fact he felt down on the dirt this morning

they don't take the card, so we had to pay in cash

For the fist time, me bike was the cleanest of the group

So i took the money and i brought it to the Police

We were waiting for Balou, but he doesn't see us.

So, the fact we had to wait to him, plus the problem linked to the arrestation with the cops, and the time we lost by meeting us again

We lost more than 1:30 hour

We are all together now, so we go back on the road again !

We lost a lot of time, but i think we can achieve our goal of the day

and arriving to Slovenia

But we must having any problems now

Where were you dude ? Itold you 3 corners after the cops ...

Nice riding with the girl !

NOw, we take the direction of the Passo of Monte Giau (italy)

Balou and i are trying to push the bike but we have no speed at all

We've got old bikes with carburator

More we take altitud, more the bikes are working badly

We're always pushing it on the 1st and 2nd gear, trying to keep the best speed possible !

We've got a lot of chance, more we're climbing, the light is getting brighter

It's like a new day was starting

look at all theses mountains ! We've got an amazing game of colors

and this light .. this is just awesome !

Maybe sometimes a bit too much, this is why we take some curves not exactly has we should be

But this is so beautiful ..

We're arriving to the top of Passo de monte Giau

Finally, we had a lot of chance to ride this Pass at the end of the day

because i think that during the day, there is a lot of cars and bikes here !

we couldn't play as we did

oh yeah... can we talk about these cazy dudes with their longboards ?

they were riding this pass very hard too !

i think we were all scared about the fact we were climbing fast, and they were going down fast too !

I take a picture of this crazy lanscape

and here we go again !

3rd day we are on the road and we ate nothing.

We must to stop this crap, for real

because we are doing bad things on the road because of this

this can be dangerous !

We're going to stop here to eat something

We're going to take a decision after, if we continue to ride tonight or not

I don't know if you remember before, but when Balou cross a road we've a lot of dust on the ground

We had to continue straight

But people who work on building roads closed this road, and they stop us. We had to take an another road.

and guess what ? we're going to have 100 km more to do because of this road closed, before arriving to slovenia.

Today, it's complicated.

WE lost a lot of time because of the Police

But you know..this is the kind of problem that you have to deal with during a trip like this

We know that.

Ukrainian current coins - Duration: 7:12.

so hello people are you going today just a question of any of you actually

been to Ukraine or au of Connie and ascendency well these here are the coins

of Ukraine if you've been to Ukraine you would have actually used some of these

but these coins are pretty low value so we have the one Copic we have B 2 we

have 2 5 to 10 the 25 the 50/50 Copic and the one if not dropped it so as you

can see they go you know stainless steel dana

aluminium bronze aluminium bronze into 96 and then they were stainless steel

from 2001 I'm talking about the 10 25 50 m1 stainless steel from 2001 to 2014

then after that our brass plated steel okay see here we have the five Copic as

you can see it's quite a big coin and this is our 2013 stainless steel on the

obverse he has the type of Vladimir the great and this is actually the coat of

arms of the Ukraine oh if you're like kind of lot

Timur the great he was one of the kings of the Kievan Rus which are predated

Russia and Ukraine fingers about 1400 ran at time

twelve to fourteen hundreds and on this side he has a weight and looks like uh

gleb's laptop has Ukraine in Cyrillic okay and I think since 2001 David am i

initialed a nothing that is the midmark of the economy Kiev okay all these coins

are pretty much the same here is the one you need to pretty much the same

that's not milk d5 is milk the 292 was minted in aluminium between on a 1996

and it's actually a lighter metal both in color and in a weight so if you get

that and change it could be an aluminum one did not actually rare so there's

just good for a collection but it's not Familia intrinsic value okay so this is

the one good evening he says a Korean at the top cliff not

one there's a coat of arms and this is a vaild about five US cents so be about

twenty who live now - when you were stall okay this one is issued in 2015

commemorates the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and he has a

poppy leaves on top of a rock yeah so there's a few million that is minted so

they're not actually ray on these side it has have to have a look myself

so on the side it just says one hadith La Nina Ukrainian and it has the date

2015 okay and here we have the coin that's normal in circulation and it has

blood Amir the great okay has his name up the top and has a picture of him with

one of the churches that he actually built

I'll put information down below see in the reverse is pretty much the same as

he ever coin this one's pretty common it was issued in 2004 and it's still

currently issued before that they had a different design coin there wasn't

actually it's good and on the side he has a one ruble again you need he's

upside down and also has a date this one's 2014 so this will probably be the

most probably not the most common coin because they do ever want to live in a

banknotes still and we have the ten Copic which is milled bands 25 so this

is probably the lowest denomination we're getting circulation because with

rep 1.25 US cents but then again the wages elope or about five hundred

dollars a month so these coins would have more value in
