Aloha this is Martina Wing live from Hawaii, with the Manta Rays again.
One of my favorite things to do being with you and talking about Manta Rays.
I also have another one that flies to the picture. Hello everybody and welcome
to my last Facebook live this year. I will resume next year again. This was
what I thought the perfect chance to talk about what happened 2017-2018 and
coming up with our goals. My biggest fan Tara is here. Thank you so
much for being here Tara. Where am I located? I want to give you a little bit about this if it's
your first Facebook live with me. Again, my name. is Martina. I live in Hawaii. I
live on the Big Island. Here is my map for you. There's a a lot of
Manta Rays living on the Kona Coast. I live in Kailua Kona and
here's the airport and here's Keauhou. These are the dive sites I talk about. Check
out all the other facebook lives I've done since the beginning of summer. This is a
really exciting to be with you every week and talking about my real
true love, the Manta Rays. In 2017 I want to look back
and two things are sticking out so I'll be jumping right into what will be
talking about today. In 2017 the biggest thing for me personally was
creating a book. Iv'e created a children's book. This is my
sample book. I created Notch the Rescued Dolphin. It's based on a big
story that I actually filmed into 2013. Please check it out on YouTube and our
other links that I'll be giving you. It has been viewed more than 30 million times!
It's a story about a dolphin being rescued while coming to the manta ray dive
site then It was rescued by scuba divers. I was the camera person. I
had this deep desire to create and do something else out of this video. I
created the children's book. I'm really proud. One challenge this year
was to get the funding so I created a Kickstarter campaign this summer. I had
a lot of help and it worked out. We were 120 percent funded!
While I'm sitting here, I'm literally waiting really for the tracking number
from the printer. The books were printed in China and they're
on their way to Hawaii any day, any minute, any second. I'm going to give you
a link in the description this way if you'd like to purchase this if you'd like. This is a really
beautiful present to start out 2018 and to share with the children. It's for the
five to nine year olds and I think even the big kids will really enjoy it.
This was the big thing for me in 2017. Another big thing in 2017 was
connecting on Facebook live. This was a really big step for me to go live every
week. I actually began this during the summer while in the Kickstarter campaign. I
feel like this is the best way for me to connect with all of my peeps. I kind of forced
myself to do this and it worked out. Then I rolled this Facebook live
experience from Notch the Rescue Dolphin Facebook page into Manta Ray
Advocates. Since then I think I've done 14 or 15 Facebook lives. I
think that is a good number to commit to and I'll continue to roll
this into 2018. First of all thank you for being here with me. When you watch
these videos live or later on in the recap. Julia is back! Thank You
Juila. This is a German connection, it's my niece. A big fan and also with the Facebook
live is Sophia! Thank you. So awesome. Thank you!
Connecting with people is a really beautiful thing for me. I feel
sometimes quite isolated out here in Hawaii
and this Facebook live platform is something that in 2017
opened up for me. Let's now roll into 2018 and my goals. I'll be staying
with Facebook live. I'm going to commit again to do at least three times a month.
Maybe even four times. Maybe even more. We'll have to see how it all shakes out.
My commitment for 2018 and my goal is to be on facebook live at least three
to four times a month. You don't see behind the scenes but it's actually quite a lot of
preparation on our end. A lot of discussions, strategy and things like
that. For example how can we make things easier to digest for people.
I think I did pretty good these last few months, so I'm going to
continue. I do enjoy interacting live with people and of
course in the recaps! These are the four things I wanted to talk
about. Facebook live is my 2018 goal and I will commit to this.
Another thing I will be doing now going back to Notch the Rescue Dolphin the book.
(fb live) Sophia I would love to have you here. Maybe a goal for you in
2018? Maybe 19 and come over to Hawaii? Hawaii is a really special place and
of course I would show you the manta rays, no problem. Now for 2018 for Notch.
Because the story is so big behind it. I mean so many millions of views already.
NatGeo bought the footage from me. Here's a
beautiful story Tara was in Mexico going on a plane and waiting
in somewhere to board the plane.
As she's watching TV there apparently I showed up on TV!
Someone on the TV said NatGeo Martina Wing etc. This is just some of the
beautiful stories that has come out of this. NatGeo had bought the footage and
the BBC bought the footage, David Suzuki in Canada had the footage and on one
of his shows. In Germany there had several shows about this too. From a story point it's
a really powerful message about the compassion, rescue of an animal. Of
course the sustainability problems, conservation with trash in the ocean and
things like this. Again, it's a beautiful story.
I really feel this story has to be bigger as a children's book. Of course I'd
like to sell some. Yes plenty. However, one of my goals here in
2018 is to reach out and talk about this and to reach many people. Maybe there
will be a big publisher one day? Maybe a media company that will pick this up?
My personality or one of my gifts is I usually don't wait for people. I do
things to get to that point. I'm going to, (fb live) Sophia yes that should
be your goal. I love that. Make sure you actually connect with me when you visit
over to Hawaii. One of my gifts is to reach out and execute.
This is one of my things I do. I'm not going to wait on a publisher to
call me. I'm going to reach out too and I have some ideas how to do that. That is
my second thing I want a Facebook live commitment and then the book getting
bigger and bigger next year. Reaching more and more people. We've also have planned a
launch of a new website. It's going to be redesigned make it a lot simpler. I had
my website mantarayadvocates.com since 2011. That is old in the website
design world. There's a lot of things in the background that need to function
better. We're working on the redesign. I want to say thank you
already to Brent Peterson for helping me strategize on this and executing.
Haley of course with design help and Tara you know you're a big big help to
me to get this all going. There will be a launch of a new website next year
and I will keep you all posted about this of course. With the new launch
this is really my biggest wish and my dream coming true hopefully through next
year. I also want to create a Manta ambassador program. You've probably
already heard of an ambassador programs. Where you can be an ambassador for
something. Many nonprofits I think have this. I'm not
really nonprofit and I'm for-profit. However, I have this desire in me to spread the
word. All the people that come to Hawaii and see the manta rays would then
have something to take home and go to schools, go to dive clubs and
share with their family gatherings. Talking about what they have
experienced. I want to create the tools for you and it's going to be all
for free. It's all something that you can download and take to places and share
the manta love that you experience here in Kona Hawaii. This will be
connected to my relaunch of the website. This is what I'm working on. I
would really love to get some feedback from anybody, well you that are
watching live right now. Give me some feedback on this idea. I'm pretty
convinced of this. I've talked to several people already about this.
Give me a comment on this if
you think a manta ambassador program is good and if you would go and do something like that?
I want to share more manta love as it's a
mysterious creature. The more we can reach people out there talking about manta
rays is one of my dreams. That's it for 2018.
I'm coming up to the end of this Facebook live. I do have a
little surprise for you and thanks Sofia. Here is a little surprise for you. I'm
going to do this. I do have a sense of humor. You must must wait. Let's see how
this works. All right. I want to wish you a Merry Christmas.
I know I look ridiculous, but it's all good. I wanted to share with you how Jim and
I, (fb live) Thank You Sofia, that's great. I wanted to share with you how we
celebrate Christmas. We pretty much just having a quiet day on the 25th. We will
not work. We have tourists in town so we're
actually busy at work all the other days. Just quiet. Not many presents.
Pretty much no presents. I'm not a present person. We will have a
Christmas tree, all small. The cats will probably take off most of the
decorations stuff like that. For us a quiet day. Share
with me how you'll make your Christmas day will go. I
want to say in German "Frohe Weihnachten" and "Merry Christmas" and in Hawaiian it is
"Mele Kalikimaka". Thank you for listening to me and I talk to you
later bye, bye.
