hey it is December 21st it's four days till Christmas and this is the time of
year that we're supposed to be joyful right?
I mean joy to the world and all that but and and that's a promise that we have
from Jesus is that when we're Christians and that we will have joy and we hear
that throughout Scripture and we hear that in Christmas songs and we're told
that by pastors and and we try to tell that to ourselves yet I have people tell
me all the time wrong why do I not have joy and in a couple days ago I talked
about all the different beliefs that we can have that that make us struggle with
that. B ut but today I want to talk about one that that just you're you're
guaranteed to not have joy if you don't forgive if you don't forgive. the lack of
forgiveness will crush your ability to have joy and and if you and what it does
is it brings bitterness into your life and and if you're full of bitterness
you're not going to be full of joy and and unless you get to the point where
you can forgive that person and people tell me all the time we're all I can't
forgive that person I can't forgive this one thing. Then the answer I have to say
is then you're not gonna have joy you're not gonna get over this anxiety you're
not gonna get over the depression every time this person comes to mind it I
struggle with it it makes me mad it makes me angry you got to forgive and
sometimes you have to forgive over and over and over again.
sometimes if it's pretty near the hurt you got to forgive like ten times in a
day 20 times a day a hundred times a day. Not because
they're doing the same thing over and over again because the memory comes to
mind and you've got to let that go. Again you will not be full of joy if you are
full of bitterness and the main source of the give of bitterness is the
inability to forgive someone. it's pretty impossible to have joy if you're bitter
right can you agree with that. remember the key to joy is obedience and and
we're told to forgive and Jesus forgave us even while we were in the middle of
doing things wrong scripture says he forgave us. He not only forgave us he
gave her a lot his life for us to show us how much he loves us.
nd and for us to have joy we have to be obedient and we have to be like Jesus
that's our goal now God's grace and spirit helps that happen but but if
you're not willing to be obedient or repentant is another word that's used
for it stop doing the bad things and start doing the good things then you're
gonna struggle as long as you keep acting out you're gonna struggle you're
gonna struggle. so when we don't forgive we're not being like Jesus and we're not
being obedient. Hey my name is royal I'm in my office in Euless, Texas I do these
devotionals Monday through Friday let me start off with the Lord's Prayer my
version of the Lord's Prayer and and the whole idea Jesus says when he teaches
this prayer is this is a way for you to get yourself prepared to be in contact
to be in communication with God and and be ready for what God tells you and be
ready to hear Heavenly Father today may we keep your name holy. would
you give us what we need to be who you want us to be what you forgive us of the
things we've done wrong and point out the things in our life that we need to
change and Lord may we forgive those who hurt us so that we're better and not
bitter. and father God would you protect us from the negative influences that are
in our life the temptations. And Lord today no matter what happens good or bad
we will give you glory because we know you're gonna use that to make us better
and I pray this in Jesus name Amen amen so here we go. Matthew 6:12 is that place
in the Lord's Prayer where it says forgive us our sins as we forgive those
who sin against us we we we. I've been counseling people for years and I found
that if a person is hanging on to that lack of forgiveness one is they're
having a really really hard time even hearing God or even recognizing that God
is there and because of that they end up getting angry at God because they think
God has bailed on them when when in actuality they're hanging on to this
person that has hurt them. and this person may
be dead this person may be gone. it may have been years and years and years ago
they may live on the other side of Planet look when you forgive somebody it
it's not about becoming their best friend again although you may end up
being that but but if somebody's hurt you bad and somebody has bad behavior
and they do that all the time you you can't just keep staying mad about that
you have to forgive that you have to live let that go. you have to let it go.
and sometimes you have to do it over and over and over again that person that
hurt you years ago and every time they come to mind you've got to forgive them
you've got to forgive them you've got to let it go. and you know what will happen
you'll get used to doing that and then eventually it'll get to where when they
come to mind you don't get so sick at your stomach and it doesn't bother you
so bad and you can let it go and you can let it go and it may not ever bother you
again if that but when it does and it comes back up then then you ask for
forgiveness then you forgive them again. and if you're hanging on to it again you
ask God to forgive you for you not forgiving them listen to Ephesians 4:31
and 32 Paul writes get rid of all bitterness rage anger harsh words and
slander as well as all types of evil behavior. that pretty much covers
everything. instead instead be kind to each other tender-hearted forgiving one
another just as God through Christ has forgiven you no matter what you've done
you need to know this too. no matter what you've done if you believe in Jesus your
sins are forgiven your sins are forgiven for the past and they're for the future
and and whatever you do now will be covered by God's grace here's what the
prayer I wrote for today is. Dear Heavenly Father thank you for loving me
even when I am disobedient you sent Jesus for me while I was still going
against you I want to be like you lord please give me the ability to forgive
give me the ability to forgive every time the memory of someone makes me mad.
You forgave my past you forgive my present wrongs and through your grace
you promise to forgive what I do in the future.
forgive me for not forgiving those who have hurt me point out the people I need
to forgive and I will forgive. Thank you for your love and grace in Jesus name
