ARE BEARDS OK IN JAPAN? Ask Japanese girls and boys about growing out beards. - Duration: 7:46.I think it's because they are foreigners, it suits them.
I think THEY look cool with it.
If it suits them they can wear it.
Beard or no beard?
Beard!
Hey guys my name is Cathy Cat. Today we are gonna go and Ask Japanese
if they are ok with beards.
Cause you guys have asked us a lot. Let's go and Ask Japanese.
Beard or no beard?
Beard? No beard is definitely better!
If it suits him its ok.
What type of person suits a beard then?
People from abroad let their beards grow and I think that looks cool.
Maybe it only suits them BECAUSE they are foreigners.
I think THEY look cool with it.
But Japanese men? - Not really.
- Why so?
Beards look unclean. That's the image we have.
If it suits him it's ok.
Like robust looking men.
But thin guys who... are all skinny and pale...
I don't think those types will suit it.
You mean only the wild types then?
Yes! - Yes the wild ones.
What type of beard is ok? Bushy beards?
Bushy beards are a no go.
The beards should be well trimmed.
If it suits them, a bit of beard is ok.
What about a bit of 5 i clock shadow?
I dislike that.
IF it suits him, yes.
If it doesn't suit him, then none is better.
What do you mean by that.
The dandy guy type suits beards.
But others, will just look like they are too lazy to shave.
That's my opinion.
So you want a well styled beard, that suits the person?
I dislike bushy beards!
I really don't like that.
If it's well trimmed and styled, then it will look cool.
Beard yes or no? - Beard yes!
Beard? Yes I would go for that!
What type of beard is ok?
What beard? No, it has to suit the person!
But I don't like that 5 o clock shadow.
That "forgotten to shave" look is terrible.
You mean a thick beard? -Thick is okay but...
But when people shave, it comes back as 5 o clock shadow.
But when its cleanly shaven its ok.
No beards at all for me.
Why so?
If it suits that person it might be alright but...
It's in the way when kissing.
It hurts!
No beard please.
If it suits him, he should wear it.
But generally NO.
If it suits him? What type of person suits a beard?
The EXiLE idol group members. The kind of tough looking guys.
- The wild looking men. - That type of man suits beards.
We are currently asking if men in Japan should have beards or not...
What do you personally think?
I personally don't like it that much.
Depends really.
Japanese actors often decide to wear styled beards.
So I personally think, growing it out might be nice.
You are not growing it out, what is your reason for that.
Because I would look like an old man.
It adds age?
I think so.
I think it would not suit me right now.
That's why I shave.
So right now it won't suit you, but maybe in the future?
Well, I am still a child.
Once I become more of an adult, I will think about it.
I am asking Beard or no Beard here.
I have never grown it out, but I think beards are ok.
Why don't you grow yours?
Because I am young.
Once I am older, growing a beard might look cool.
It also depends...
If you look really robust, wearing a beard might look good.
Right now, you have a bit of a beard there....
What do you think about this topic?
I personally like it but...
it isn't well accepted by society.
Many people in Japan think that beards are dirty.
That's how I am made to feel.
You mentioned foreigners suit beards. Who suits beards in your opinion?
Johnny Depp!
That's right. Johnny Depp looks cool.
Johnny Depp is so famous.
Who from abroad looks good in a beard?
I think beards suit almost everyone abroad.
But I don't think they suit Japanese people much.
They shouldn't grow them out.
Why so? - No beard looks more beautiful.
You look younger too, right!
Usujima .... Yamada Takayuki suits beards!
Kubozuka Yosuke suits them too.
And from abroad?
Paul's beard looks good. - Who is Paul?
The main character from "Too fast and too furious".
Will Smith's style of beard is good too.
The beards I see foreigners wear are all looking pretty swell.
From abroad, beard yes.
They look cool.
Their faces look very different from Japanese people.
They have quite expression-ful faces.
There are only cool people.
Japanese people have simple features.
So it has to suit the guy.
Nagase from the band Tokio suits it.
Ayanogo suits it.
He is a dandy type and really cool.
And people from abroad? - Daniel Radcliff
Nice. - How about you?
The person who split off from One Direction... forgot his name though...
I have no idea.
The beard did suit him.
Who does suit a beard then?
Johnny Depp and such.
- So cool! - Johnny Depp? - So cool.
Those were our questions, thank you.
Beards in Japan we had lots of YES we had lots of NO.
And generally then consensus was, if it suits you it's ok.
Which I think is a vague statement.
Because it's really hard to tell if it suits you or not.
Generally I do not see Japanese men with beards.
in Japan. Generally. Sometimes you see beards
but really you don't see it all that much. Especially none at school.
boys are not allowed to actually grow a beard when they are at school.
You have to be careful when you go to job interviews,
and similar things, when you work at certain jobs...
In many jobs you are not allowed to grow out your beard.
There is a big stigma with the beard thing because it has the image of being uncleanly.
Instead of being wild and cool, it has a bit of a minus image.
So be aware of that when you come to Japan.
But nevertheless many people said "If its a foreigner it looks great."
Apart from the bushy beards. No one likes the bushy beards apparently.
That's a thing to remember when you come. Generally what I can say...
With a beard you will look older and a bit wilder.
If that's what you are going for then that's what you can achieve with that
but generally having a cleanly shaved face is very much appreciated
here in Japan.
So how about you? Beers? Go and no go? Beards? Beers?
Beards no go or go?
Let us know in the comment box below. Also, are you growing out a beard?
what are your reasons and why do you like your beard?
Why do you think this is the best face I can have with this manly beard?
Let us know. I hope you have a lovely day and catch you soon for another video on Ask Japanese. Bye.

Honesty Hour: Earning The Right To Get Feedback - Duration: 2:56.Hey, so today I want to share another Mark Britt gem which is "Honesty Hour"
from iflix. And the principle behind it is that as leaders, we must earn the
right to hear the questions that are on our team members minds. Their fears the
anxieties, what's burning in the back of their
minds that they're not telling us directly to our faces. It's not enough as
leaders to simply say, "hey, I have an open-door policy. Come to me if you've
got any questions or concerns". Rarely, is someone gonna take you up on that. Or
it's not enough to have these town-hall type meetings where you present your
plans and strategies and then ask people to put up their hands, come to the mic
and say, "ask me any questions", because it's difficult for people to really go
out there put themselves out in the open and ask questions that's really burning.
And yet it's important as leaders to find ways to really unearth what's really
troubling our team members minds. And so the principle of Honesty Hour is having
these forums where we provide the power of anonymity, where people can ask things
without their identity being revealed. When we were small we started with
post-it notes. We got them to write their questions and we'd compile all the
post-it notes and as leaders we have to answer every single questions directly.
People will know if you're trying to fudge. People will know if you're trying
to corporate wash a particular question. As we scale into multiple locations, we
move to the power of anonymous Google Forms where people could ask questions
without their identity being revealed. So same principle and as leaders we are
judged by our ability to really confront the tough questions whether it is
something like "how much money do we have left?" "are we going to run out of money" or
"that project didn't really work, what happened to it" right and as leaders we
really must ask answer those questions to be able to have that credibility and
for people to be willing to ask the next follow-up questions which could turn
into opportunities, for new ideas that we had not thought about before. And so, I've
had many examples of ideas that came from these instances where people were
raising their grievances about what happens at work and actually you could
turn that into even revenue generating opportunities.
And so I wish you luck in trying to find ways in which you can get as much of the
information, surface it that the concerns that people have in our teams and as
leaders, answer them honestly.

US Coal Industry's Future Has 'Brightened' In Trump's First Year - Duration: 4:08.US Coal Industrys Future Has Brightened In Trumps First Year
The U.S. coal industrys prospects have brightened in President Donald Trumps
first year in office, according to international energy analysts.
Actions taken by the Trump administration to cut the coal countrys regulatory burden
have provided optimism to the industry, that has been in decline in recent years,
analysts wrote.
The mood in the coal industry in the United States brightened in 2017, the International
Energy Agency (IEA) reported in its latest global coal market report that makes projections
for the next five years.
Its definitely been a comeback year for coal.
Exports surged nearly 70 percent in the first three-quarters of 2017, and mines are producing
more than in 2016.
Measures introduced by the Federal government provided optimism to the sector, IEA reported.
Some regulations were reviewed and the financial environment for coal mining improved.
The countrys first new coal mine since 2011 was opened in May and other projects
were announced.
Experts at Platts noted similar trends in 2017, finding coal was generally the fuel
of choice to meet incremental fossil fuel demand in the power sector outside of Europe
in 2017.
Trumps deregulatory actions and higher domestic gas prices drove higher coal use
in the power sector and higher international coal prices boosted exports and revenues for
coal companies, IEA wrote.
Trump made lifting the regulatory burden on energy, coal in particular, a promise on the
campaign trail.
Trump signed legislation shortly after taking office that repealed a former President Barack
Obama-era mining rule.
The president also issued an executive order rescinding a moratorium on federal coal leases.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has reviewed several regulations expected
to hamper coal industry growth, but the biggest step the agency has taken in that regard was
to rescind the Clean Power Plan (CPP).
EPA said repealing the CPP would cut $33 billion in compliance costs.
However, coal has an uphill battle ahead.
Platts notes that sluggish power demand, abundant gas supply and renewables growth
are expected to continue to generate headwinds for coal use, meaning U.S. production
is forecast to be around 510 Mtce in 2022, equivalent to current levels.
U.S. coal exports will also have to increasingly compete with liquefied natural gas exports.
Europe and Asia are hungry for U.S. LNG exports, and that could cut into coals market share,
especially in countrys shunning coal.
IEA expects the U.S. to remain a swing supplier to international coal markets,
and even though changes in the policy and regulatory environment are reducing costs
for US producers, these will not significantly change their position in the seaborne supply
curve.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration expects coal production to dip in 2018 on
lower international demand and no growth in power generation, but the agency also sees
coal production rising again in the latter half of the year.

New Anime Dub Album Announced: Pokémon Movie Music Collection Releases 12/23! - Duration: 0:45.Hi folks, Steven here.
Just wanted to let you know that for the first time since 2007, music from the Pokemon dub
is getting released commercially.
It's a digital release called "Pokemon Movie Music Collection" and it comes out in just
a few days on the 23rd.
From the track list posted, it appears to be songs from the last four movies, in other
words "Diancie" to "I Choose You".
After doing a bit of reasearch, I did also see it mentioned on Ed Goldfarb's Twitter
feed, and it sounds like there's a possibility of more of these in the future, but nothing
definitive.
Be sure to let me know what you think of this release.
All right folks, thanks.

How To Rap: How To Handle Getting Called Corny - Duration: 5:06.what's up guys it's Dono so in this video I'm gonna be talking about how to
start a rap without it sounding a little bit off so this question could
have been taken one of two ways I'm gonna answer one of the kind of
interpretations in this video and then I will make another video kind of
answering another version of the interpretation so the way that I'm
taking it is basically how to start rapping without it sounding dumb or
corny and by that I mean how you can put the together a verse that sounds kind of
authentic and realistic now there's kind of a distinction that we have to make
right off the bat which is if you're getting called corny that's one thing
but if you personally think that your raps are corny that's more of a
confidence issue now that's in a couple of other different videos so I'm gonna
focus on the first case which is if other people are saying that about your
work these are the three things to think about when you start writing a verse the
first thing you have to do is consider who is actually listening to your music
your audience makes a really big difference on how you're interpreted and
how people see your work so for example if your audience is typically listening
to gangsta rap and you're doing some kind of pop type rap then obviously
there's a good chance that it's gonna get taken in a way that other people end
up calling you corny in the same vein you might be doing something that's kind
of like club music if your audience is more lyrical then same thing you might
be interpreted as not making music that's very good there's really only two
ways to get around this one is you either change your style or - you look
for a new audience if you watch some of my other videos you know that I kind of
push towards the side of just finding a new audience because the music that
you make you want to be authentic to you it's a lot harder to change your style
based on other people's expectations than it is to just kind of tap in to
what you have and find what people resonate with that actually the next
thing for you to consider is what's your message what kind of content are
you talking about and how authentic is it to you how real does it sound so
Drake for example gets called corny because his music or his persona doesn't
always match who he appears to be in other circumstances basically
occasionally he does you know some softer songs but then tries to act
harder on some of his other songs and for a lot of people that harder side of
himself isn't really that believable and it comes across corny but we've got
another example prime example Rick Ross he's making music about stuff that he
hasn't really lived through a lot of people think that that's super corny
because it's not things that he's actually familiar with but other people
don't really mind because they think that music just sounds good
the main point here is that authenticity is a big theme in rap and it plays a big
role in how people perceive you so you didn't want to make something that feels
authentic to you and then that should be able to translate across to other people
for example if you grew up in a really safe place in the suburbs and you're
talking about how hardcore you are a lot of people are gonna end up calling you
corny because it doesn't really match who you are the last thing to think
about is what kind of technical skill you're displaying when you're creating
your raps so a lot of times the raps that are called corny are because
they're being given at a very basic level it's missing a lot of important
poetic techniques that you need to be really respected as a rapper so stuff
like metaphor wordplay multi-syllable rhymes stuff like that it makes the
verse more interesting and that way people are more likely to get on board
with it luckily this is pretty easy to fix all you have to do is get back into
the fundamentals learn them a little bit better and start polishing them up and
utilizing them this has a two-fold ability of people less you know
criticism around being corny but it also is just gonna raise the overall level of
your verse and give you more ways to express your messages uniquely hopefully
that helps give you a couple things to think about if people have been giving
you a lot of critique about your style of rapping like I said the other piece
of that is confidence which I can cover in another video I'm gonna save it
for another time beyond that though if you have any questions comments topics
you want me to cover throw them down in the box below I've also got a full 30-day
course you can find that and a link down below and I've also got a website rap
better.com you can check out for some more resources that's all
hopefully next time I have this recording area fixed a little bit better
for you but I'm having a hard time finding space where it's not super loud
and that's it see you next time don't forget to subscribe so you can stay up
to date on the videos and if you have any questions comments or topics want me
to cover leave them down in the box below and I'll get to them as soon as
possible see you next time
