What type of person suits a beard then?

People from abroad let their beards grow and I think that looks cool.

Maybe it only suits them BECAUSE they are foreigners.

I think THEY look cool with it.

But Japanese men? - Not really.

- Why so?

Beards look unclean. That's the image we have.

If it suits him it's ok.

Like robust looking men.

But thin guys who... are all skinny and pale...

I don't think those types will suit it.

What type of beard is ok? Bushy beards?

Bushy beards are a no go.

The beards should be well trimmed.

If it suits them, a bit of beard is ok.

What about a bit of 5 i clock shadow?

I dislike that.

IF it suits him, yes.

If it doesn't suit him, then none is better.

What do you mean by that.

The dandy guy type suits beards.

But others, will just look like they are too lazy to shave.

That "forgotten to shave" look is terrible.

But when people shave, it comes back as 5 o clock shadow.

But when its cleanly shaven its ok.

No beards at all for me.

Why so?

If it suits that person it might be alright but...

It's in the way when kissing.

It hurts!

I personally don't like it that much.

Japanese actors often decide to wear styled beards.

So I personally think, growing it out might be nice.

I think beards suit almost everyone abroad.

But I don't think they suit Japanese people much.

They shouldn't grow them out.

Why so? - No beard looks more beautiful.

You look younger too, right!

Usujima .... Yamada Takayuki suits beards!

Kubozuka Yosuke suits them too.

The beards I see foreigners wear are all looking pretty swell.

They look cool.

Their faces look very different from Japanese people.

They have quite expression-ful faces.

There are only cool people.

Japanese people have simple features.

So it has to suit the guy.

Nagase from the band Tokio suits it.

Ayanogo suits it.

He is a dandy type and really cool.

Beards in Japan we had lots of YES we had lots of NO.

And generally then consensus was, if it suits you it's ok.

Which I think is a vague statement.

Because it's really hard to tell if it suits you or not.

Generally I do not see Japanese men with beards.

in Japan. Generally. Sometimes you see beards

but really you don't see it all that much. Especially none at school.

boys are not allowed to actually grow a beard when they are at school.

You have to be careful when you go to job interviews,

and similar things, when you work at certain jobs...

In many jobs you are not allowed to grow out your beard.

There is a big stigma with the beard thing because it has the image of being uncleanly.

Instead of being wild and cool, it has a bit of a minus image.

So be aware of that when you come to Japan.

But nevertheless many people said "If its a foreigner it looks great."

Apart from the bushy beards. No one likes the bushy beards apparently.

That's a thing to remember when you come. Generally what I can say...

With a beard you will look older and a bit wilder.

If that's what you are going for then that's what you can achieve with that

but generally having a cleanly shaved face is very much appreciated

here in Japan.
