Never Trump Conservatives Soften to President Trump, Hail His Achievements

Almost a year into the Trump administration, some conservatives who formed part of the

Never Trump movement during the campaign are softening even praising the president

for his successes in office.

New York Times readers on Sunday were treated to a column by conservative Ross Douthat a

frequent critic of Trump who wrote about Trumps underrated victory over the Islamic

State.

In the column, A War Trump Won, Douthat writes:

[I]f you had told me in late 2016 that almost a year into the Trump era the caliphate would

be all-but-beaten without something far worse happening in the Middle East, I would have

been surprised and gratified.

So very provisionally, credit belongs where its due to our soldiers and diplomats,

yes, but to our president as well.

Douthat also grills the press for not mentioning the success due to it contradicting the narrative

of Trumpian disaster. He notes that many on both the left and the Never Trump

right have feared Trumps foreign policy more than anything, and yet it has wrought

success so far.

ladies and gentlemen, say hello to:

Trail-Bike-Worldcampion Tom Öhler

Cheers Tom

happy to have Tom with us

the ultimative technic pro

we prepaired some challenges with the cans which you can also try at home

I would say let´s go

first challenge, slalom

your frontwheel have to go around the cans

until there

turn around

Elias shows it perfectly haha have a look if he is able to do it the same way on his bike

right, and the whole parcour brakeless

Elias will start, and we are not allowed to jump with the backwheel

so brakeless and without jumping

so Fabio, you´re next

now the big turn-around

pretty difficult without brakes

where did you go inside the parcour again?

yeah, right here

ohh, sick

for sure

pretty sensitive

both will get a point, me not

so guy´s, second challenge

so we will play soccer on our bikes. A penalty

our goal

there is the penalty point

goalkeeper

goalkeeper is also inside the goal

you have to kick the can with your frontwheel into the goal

each of us has 3 tries, the guy who scores most will win

that the rules are clear, we have to measure the 11 meters

1-2-11

ok, there are the 11 meters

Martin measured it for us

goalkeeper, are you ready?

yes, I´m ready

first penalty, let´s go

you touched the ground with your feet

you´re allowed to shoot

the referee whistle

11 meters are pretty long

oje, goalpost

goalpost yes

second penalty

so bad haha

wasn´t that bad, but the grass stopped the ball haha

I think I´ve to try another tactic

you can´t do it

goalpost haha

that´s a goal

that´s a goal

I don´t wanted to shoot too faar

don´t really know what the goalkeeper did

the goalkeeper should have hold it

so 1:0, let´s go on

good, but not good enough

the goalkeeper is unpredictable

he can jump anywhere

it´s gonna be exciting

now it´s gonna be exciting

the last, most important penalty

95. minute

so Tom has 2 points, me 1 and I don´t have a point for Elias today

thanks

next Challenge, stoppie Challenge

a precision stoppie

ride throught the two cans into the stoppie

ride until there

you have to touch the can´s, but they aren´t allowed to fall

so, just touch it

and the backwheel has to be in the air while touching the can

but this one was close

joooou

this one was perfect haha

way to short ahah

standing is 2:2:0

next challenge: switchback

switchback over the cans, until we have a winner who manage to come over the highest stock of cans

rule: your backwheel axle have to be over the cans

this one was good

so, next step

Elias on the next step

this one was close

felt also close haha

this one was close haha

are you serious?

now I´m excited

over?

yes

sick!

pretty close right?

over right?

yeah, done

so now it´s gonna be exciting

it can work theoretical

let´s go, now I´m excited

perfect

yes

I would say we will take that

Tom and I made it and think that we can´t do it higher, because one can is pretty high

so for each of us one point

so 3:3:0

so now, ultimative last challenge, who us us will be the...

for this challenge you have to drift inbetween this cans

you aren´t allowed to upset a can or to ride over the line

Elias, your turn

now it´s gonna be tighter

this one was pretty pretty close

but I think it was inside

tighter and thighter

perfect!

perfect with the handbrake

nearly falled over right?

closer steps

perfect, let´s go

are you serious?

he is going to be serious

sh*t, can´t be

pretty close

pretty close

nooo, my mistake

sick!

I´m out, but I still hope for a drawn

Elias, you have to win

If Elias will win, we both are drawn

this two will go on with a pretty close distance to drift in

let´s go

what a declaration of war

are you serious???

you are the drift king!

win or drawn

can he do it? yes or no?

so Elias get his point

so Tom and I are drawn with 3 points

I would say we need a winner and...

Schnig Schnag Schnug

we will decide the whole game with schnig schnag schnug, ok

only 1 Game

Have fun, Schnig Schnag Schnug, Tom against Fabio

Beyond Today -- Help Your Kids Keep the Faith - Duration: 28:27.

[Gary Petty] How can Christian families raise God-centered, biblically moral children in

an increasingly secular society?

The issues facing Christian children in public schools are daunting.

In the classroom, they may be taught that evolution is indisputable science and creationism,

well—superstition.

More and more they face transgender issues in the locker room, sex education classes

that are blatantly anti-biblical and an educational system that is at times promotes multiculturalism

while downplaying, or even oppressing, Christian values.

These issues are driving many Christian families to home-school or enroll their children in

private schools.

The long-term effects of this migration of Christians from the public school system is

an ever-widening divide in society—one segment promoting the values of secular humanism and

the other biblically-based values.

Now if you are concerned about your child's or grandchild's education, then today's

program is important for you.

Join us on Beyond Today as we discuss "Help Your Children Keep the Faith."

Has it ever been so difficult to help children navigate the educational years?

Studies show that anxiety among children is higher than previous generations and many

parents are concerned about teenage suicide, sexual experimentation happening at an earlier

age, bullying and drug and alcohol abuse among children.

And it's not just what children may experience at school.

At a very early age, children are exposed to a mind-blowing array of technology and

media.

Overexposure to video games can hinder a child's ability to concentrate on tasks that aren't

as visually stimulating.

Pre-teens in some television sitcoms are shown as sexually precocious, smarter than parents

and morally accepting all alternative lifestyles.

Take time to watch the commercials during these programs.

It is obvious that the fashion and cosmetic industries target young children to dress,

wear make-up and act like older teens.

It's a lucrative business built on manipulating the values of children.

Children are being pushed into facing different stages of life that they are not physically,

mentally, emotionally or spiritually equipped to handle.

How can Christian families deal with these issues in the lives of their children?

One vital key is education.

It is important for your child to learn mathematics, history, biology, economics.

But, the most important elements, the very foundation of your child's education, is

based on whether they learn to build their lives on secular humanism principles or biblical

principles.

Now there is one indispensable element to helping your children develop biblically based,

God-centered values.

That element is you, the parent.

Many parents realize that they just can't turn their children over to an educational

system that increasingly opposes their biblical values, but they struggle with how to counteract

what their children are learning outside the home.

Church attendance, Bible lessons designed for children, Christian summer camp, friends

who are Christians are all important in your child's development.

But nothing is more important in their lives than your involvement in their biblical education.

If this is a concern that you have in your family, then you probably know of others who

have the same concerns.

So I encourage you to share this program—posted online at Beyond Today.tv—with other parents

who are struggling with how to teach their children biblical values in a secular society.

So where do we start in discussing the role of parents in Christian education?

One of the primary biblical passages about children's education is found in the instructions

God gave to ancient Israel.

In Deuteronomy 6 God said, "And these words which I command you today shall be in your

heart.

You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your

house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.

You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your

eyes" (Deuteronomy 6:6-8).

The spiritual education of children isn't just a classroom exercise.

It is experienced in daily living.

Parents are to be involved in teaching their children about God while sitting in the house,

walking and traveling, before they go to sleep and when they wake up.

If we think of education as only lecturing, then we're missing the point of the biblical

passage we just read.

Parenting is more than lecturing.

The Deuteronomy 6 model of education is to immerse the child in a family culture where

biblical principles are not just taught, but exhibited by the parents.

Now what this means is that if we, as parents and grandparents, exhibit a half-hearted,

biblically shallow, hypocritical Christianity then that's exactly what we will be teaching

our children.

Okay, let's make one thing clear—no parent is perfect, so don't put that weight on

you.

But, even that is part of the Christian message—forgiveness from God through Jesus Christ and spiritual

change and growth can be taught through the example of the parents.

You're not the only influence in your child's life, but never underestimate the bond of

love that can form between a parent and a child and the impact your example has on them.

The Deuteronomy 6 method of education isn't just the responsibility of the mother either.

Dad is also to exhibit Christian behavior and be actively involved in teaching.

The apostle Paul wrote this to the early church, "…fathers, do not provoke your children

to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord" (Ephesians 6:4).

Both parents must be involved in the religious teaching of children.

Now I realize that some of you are trying to raise children as a single parent.

Being a single parent creates its own set of tough challenges.

As a single parent, you can still properly guide and teach your children, but in some

ways you carry a heavier load than a two parent family.

So it's important that you as a single parent find a support group to help you in teaching

your children the biblical way.

Now at this point we need to discuss an important mistake many well-meaning Christians make

in their family lives.

The mistake is making their children the center of the family.

They see the goal of parenting is to meet all of their child's desires, protect her

from disappointment and failure and to foster self-esteem.

The problem is this is a sure-fire way to help your child become selfish.

Let's illustrate this.

If we were to draw a series of circles representing your family, who would you place in the center?

Your child?

Maybe you as parents?

Some would say schooling and education.

In these models, how do your children learn about God?

I mean let's face it.

If I am the center of my universe, then I will expect everything to revolve around me.

If God is the center of your family, then children will learn that God is to be the

center of their lives.

Your personal relationship with God, your faith, your obedience, your struggles with

trying to live a life based in the Bible is the basis for teaching your children.

Your child needs to see you study the Bible, pray, strive to live by the moral standards

taught by Jesus Christ, seek God's forgiveness and guidance and be involved in weekly church

services.

If God is the center of your family what comes next?

The second priority in your family needs to be the relationship between Mom and Dad.

An important contributor to healthy emotional child development is the security they feel

because Mom and Dad are together.

This means that one of the most important gifts that parents can give their child is

a good marriage.

Putting time and energy into creating a happy marriage will go a long way in producing a

happy, emotionally healthy child.

Your child is this third circle, with God as the center and the relationship between

Mom and Dad as the second circle.

It is your relationship with God and the relationship between Mom and Dad that lays the foundation

of child development in the home.

Now once again I know, if you are a single parent, this doesn't mean you can't be effective

in raising emotionally healthy and spiritually dedicated children.

It does mean that you will face some very special challenges.

Think about this.

It is not your job to be your child's best friend by relating to them as if you were

a child yourself.

It is your job to love, take care of, and teach your child.

Remember what the apostle Paul wrote to parents, that they were to "bring up" children…raising

them into adulthood, "in the training and admonition" or "instruction" in the

Lord (Ephesians 6:4).

At times, children may resist being "brought up...in the Lord" because they are children.

They are childish.

There are going to be some conflicts in teaching children.

When faced with those conflicts, just remember that the purpose of parenthood is to raise

mature, responsible adults.

And it's not always an easy road.

Many years ago, I heard a person ask my Dad what was the secret to child rearing.

His answer was, "You spend 20 years preparing them to leave you."

My Dad was a wise man.

We don't want our children to stay children.

As parents, our goal is to prepare them to walk their own walk with God, to teach them

to become emotionally and mentally healthy adults, and yes, to guide them in their education

and success in both their vocations and as contributing members of society.

Another mistake some parents make is waiting until a child "can make up his own mind"

before teaching them religious values.

The school system doesn't play by those rules.

Television and the internet don't play by those rules.

Religious and spiritual training begins at the earliest stages.

The apostle Paul wrote to a young minister named Timothy, "But you must continue in

the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned

them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make

you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus" (2 Timothy 3:14-15).

Timothy's father was a pagan.

So Timothy's religious teaching came from his mother and grandmother.

They taught him the Scriptures from an early age and that early training guided him as

an adult.

My wife and I have reached the stage of life where our three children are grown.

We now enjoy a deep friendship with them as adults.

We also have the wonderful experience of supporting them as they navigate the joys and tribulations

of parenthood.

We have learned that we can't live our children's lives for them.

Each one has to choose their own path.

But, as parents, and now as grandparents, we recognize our God ordained responsibility

to love them and teach them about God's love and His plan for their lives.

Now this is the basis of biblical parenthood.

There have been numerous studies over the past decades on why many young people leave

their churches in their late teens or early twenties.

Some of the same reasons show up in all of the studies.

It is important for parents to understand these issues in order to properly prepare

children as they face the difficulties of trying to live a Christian life in a secular

society.

Well let's summarize what we've talked about.

1.

Nothing is more important in your children's lives than your involvement in their biblical

education.

2.

You need to model your relationship with God as an example to your children.

3.

Parental religious and spiritual training begins at the earliest ages.

We're now joined by Gary Antion, a licensed marriage and family counselor with many decades

of experience as a counselor and pastor.

Gary, thanks for being here with us.

[Gary Antion] Well I'm happy to be here, Gary and to contribute to this very important

topic.

[Gary] You know, a lot of people worry about their children leaving the faith.

And it is amazing how many young people, in their teens or in their twenties, leave the

faith.

And there's been a lot of research into that and Barna has done, of course, a lot

of research.

And I was looking at one of their latest reports.

Here's the number two reason why children leave the faith in their twenties and in their

teens.

It's because they find Christianity to be shallow.

And here's what some of the things they said: 31% said church is boring.

Well that's not a parental issue there.

But one quarter of these young adults said faith is not relevant to their career or interests.

Or that the Bible is not taught clearly enough—that was 23%.

And a full 20% said, God seems missing from my experience of church, and I guess you could

say probably a lot feel my experience at home.

So what do parents do to deal with this?

[Gary Antion] Well first of all, children are a blessing from God.

They are given to the family, to the parents, so that they can train those children and

bring them up in the nurture of God as you said in the first segment.

You brought out about how important it is for family to be together.

For family to be relating to one another.

And the modeling of parents, you cannot and in any way, quantify because they are such

important issues.

Parents need to know their Bibles.

Parents need to study their Bibles.

Parents need to be leading in the way and not be afraid or ashamed to talk about issues

that come up and to be able to talk to their children openly about these issues.

And certainly to not put them down for having questions, but to be willing to accept those

questions and to admit when they themselves have had wrong perspectives.

[Gary] I think it's so important too, this relevancy issue.

That we be able to make them understand, help them understand that God is the center of

their lives and is relevant to everything that they do, their fun, their seriousness,

whatever in life—God is center to that.

[Gary Antion] Right.

Because if parents are living the way they understand as godly, they're modeling that

for their children and it begins from youth.

It's very difficult to bend a teenager when you start out with a teenager, not impossible,

but very difficult.

But when you are able to work with them from the time they're little, and they come to

respect you and you come to respect them, and you treat them and take care of them,

they come to look upon you in an honorable and respectful way.

Therefore, it's easy to train them and teach them to respect God in an honorable and respectable

way.

[Gary] You talked about teenagers.

Before the program, we were talking about how difficult it is sometimes for teenagers

who have never been exposed to the Bible—now suddenly their families taking them there

and how difficult that is, but you made a very good point.

You said that they have to understand—parents have to understand where their children are.

[Gary Antion] They do.

Understanding is one of the greatest gifts we can give to anybody and particularly our

children.

Understanding where they are and the various stages of life.

Understanding a teenagers' desire to try to spread his wings, to try to become his

own person, to become an adult himself.

And sometimes that brings in challenges to parents, and it's a very difficult time.

Parents need to quote "fight" unquote for their children because of all the pressures

coming from peer pressure, coming from the teachings at school, coming from sciences

and so-called, sometimes not true.

But coming from various ones, at them, they need to have some help from the parents.

There are two sides to this story you know.

You say about faith, it takes faith to believe in this, but it also takes faith to believe

in some of the evolutionary thoughts.

[Gary] Because young people don't want—okay they come with a question about evolution,

they don't want, "well let's go to Genesis."

They want a discussion with science.

And it's interesting, I unjust read something the other day, it's a myth that almost all

scientists don't believe in God.

52% of scientists say they believe in a god or a higher power.

They know that there is some kind of order to this.

That there is a creator to this.

And there's a lot of good scientific discussion out there showing creation instead of evolution.

And I think, parents seem to education themselves on that.

[Gary Antion] Where do all these things come from?

Where does harmony come from?

Where does design come from?

Who sustains this all the time?

Why do we "drop" things?

Why don't we say we "up" things?

Because of the law of gravity which we can't see, but we see the effects of it.

So how did that get there?

So, parents need to study themselves, so they can have some answers.

[Gary] Would you say then that dealing with a teenager, before they can teach them about

God, they have to have a relationship with the teenager?

So, they have to do that first before they can bring their child to God.

[Gary Antion] Exactly.

Parents who love their children, care for their children, spend time with their children,

whether it's in godly activities, whether it's in church activities, whether it's

in various social events, or whether it's just family time together, can take the defensiveness

out of the situation, and everybody can sit and talk openly.

Children appreciate it when parents spend time with them.

[Gary] Now a third reason that many young people say they leave the church is that what

they see as an exclusive nature to Christianity.

And here's some of the responses they gave to Barna: 3 out of 10 Christians, 29%, said

churches are glossing over real differences and afraid of other faiths.

In other words, they only teach Christianity and they are against all other faiths.

Others said that the church was like a country club.

Of course, they live in an environment where they are taught everyone is included, everything's

inclusive.

So how do we deal with the fact that Christianity is exclusive?

I mean, we say that Jesus is the only way to salvation, so how do we teach them to deal

with that?

[Gary Antion] Well first of all, Christianity today is to be teaching people to be an example

to others, how to model the way that God has called.

The happiness and joy that others would see in a nation and a people who followed and

lived the ways of God.

The idea has never been to be exclusive.

It's to be starting out with God calling people, and then bringing everybody in.

But not forcing them, because it always has to be an option.

[Gary] But that's a fascinating concept.

To get children, especially teenagers to understand that God is in their lives, God is working

through them, not because they can be exclusive and push everybody else away, but it's the

opposite.

They are to exhibit Jesus Christ to everyone else.

They're actually opening up to bring other people to God.

So, it's not exclusive, it is very inclusive but it's based on truth.

[Gary Antion] The teaching of God are definitely inclusive.

You think of the example of the parable of the Good Samaritan.

Where the question was asked by the Pharisee, who is my neighbor?

And who was his neighbor?

Whoever was in need of help and whoever was closest by.

It wasn't a matter there of your same race, your name nationality.

It was those who were close by.

Loving your neighbor as yourself is certainly not about loving yourself only, that would

be exclusive.

Inclusive is loving your neighbor as yourself.

[Gary] And I think where a lot of people who have trouble too, is the idea of is sin.

Well God doesn't judge anything, but the truth is, God determines what works and what

doesn't work and He forbids us to do certain things because it produces something terrible

in our lives.

And they have a hard time with that.

[Gary Antion] God is a god of love.

Everything God does, He does out of love for us.

If you break something, it's going to break you.

If you fall, if you go against the law of gravity, what happens to you?

Chances are you are going to skin your knee or at worst, break something.

So why does that happen?

Because laws have been broken and violated.

It's not that sin is something that cannot be gotten rid of.

Sin can be repented of.

God never said He made us perfect—or wants us to be perfect in character, He made us

perfect physically, but not perfect in character.

So character is something that has to be developed and something has to be developed with godliness.

[Gary] See what you just said is real important, this idea that God condemns sin, but He wants

to forgive and change.

God actually wants to bring people towards Him so that these behaviors that He says are

destructive are removed.

Look at the world we live in.

It's a mess.

Children have to know, the reason this is a mess is because we have turned our back,

humanity has turned its back on God.

[Gary Antion] When parents are teaching children, they're teaching them in a way that's

relevant to what's going on in the world.

They are relating the teaching and the instruction and even their examples to what's happening.

And parents should not be afraid to talk about godliness.

Should not be afraid to talk about to their children, pray for me when I am going on this

business trip.

They should not be afraid to do that.

You're including them.

You are saying, hey let's sit down.

You're making Bible study with them interesting and fun.

You're helping them to learn biblical principles that will last them a lifetime.

[Gary] I like the word fun.

The Bible is supposed to be fun.

There' entertainment.

There's fun.

There's lessons.

There's seriousness.

It's all of life is in that Book.

[Gary Antion] It is.

Gary You know I appreciate you being here.

We have to have you back here again soon.

[Gary Antion] Thank you.

Parents have a God ordained responsibility to teach their children.

You can't give that responsibility over to the school system, their peers, the overwhelming

influences of media and technology, or even to your church youth program.

This means that you as parents must have a personal relationship with God, give of your

time and energy to your children, and you must have a thorough understanding of the

Bible.

A few unbiblical religious traditions, a few words about Jesus, and a lifestyle that compromises

with secular society will influence your children to reject true Christianity as irrelevant

and hypocritical.

Your children are a gift from God.

Your responsibility as parents is ordained by God.

It is never too late to prayerfully begin the Deuteronomy 6 model of immersing your

child into a truly biblically based, God-centered home.

Bars and Melody: Cooking with Charlie (Ep.1) - Duration: 3:41.

Cooking with Charlie

So, guys, welcome to Charlie's cooking tutorials.

Today, I'm going to be cooking myself some bacon.

I'm a terrible cook, so let's see how this goes.

This is going to be a disaster.

I'm about to burn my whole house down—yay!

So, to make your perfect bacon sandwich,

all you need is a little bit of bacon,

a little bit of oil,

and a little bit of bread.

Alright, so to start off, you're going to want to take your pan,

you're going to want to add a little bit of oil,

not too much— you don't want it too juicy, you know.

You don't want it greasy.

You add a little bit of oil.

Make sure it's evenly spread.

And then, yeah, you're ready to add your bacon.

Then, you're going to want to take your bacon

and you're going to want to add it into the pan.

I was expecting some sort of…

like fizz or something.

It's obviously not heated up enough yet.

I'll get back to you.

Right, so now you can hear a little bit of a fizz,

which I'm liking.

There we go!

And you just want to leave that in there.

You want to make sure it's not too hot.

You want to make sure it's not too cold.

So you get that nice even…

What you want to do is

you want to give it a little flip every few minutes,

just to make sure you're getting that even

that even… eveness… even…

I don't know what I'm talking about right now.

This is really hard to do one-handed, you know.

I'm not very good at this, I'm not.

Once your bacon's on the go, you're going to want to take your bread,

you're going to want to add a little bit of butter.

I'm using Clover—

not a brand deal, but I like Clover.

And you're going to want to give it a nice even spread,

ready to be

graced with the bacon.

What you're gong to want to do is

you're going to want to give it that nice even spread.

Make sure you're not giving it too much and you're not giving it too little.

You know, you want it all over the bread.

You don't want half the bread with no butter on,

do you know what I mean?

You want to get that even spread.

Take your time. Be careful.

You don't want to go in too hard and break the bread, you know.

I'm all about breaking bread with my brothers,

but you don't want to be breaking bread when it comes to a bacon sandwich,

because it starts leaking and stuff, you know.

You want to give it that nice even spread.

Look!

Beautiful!

Taught by the best.

So, once your bacon's done—

I've left mine in a little bit longer than normal,

because I like my bacon a little bit crispy-

you're going to want to apply the bacon into the sandwich,

nice and steady.

Make sure you don't drop the bacon.

Then, depending on what you like,

you add your sauce or whatever you like to add.

I'm a ketchup fan.

I love my ketchup.

So you just want to apply that nice and steady

to get that even spread on the ketchup.

Lovely!

Then, you're going to want to put a nice clean cut right down the centre.

Make sure you use a sharp knife.

I'm using a butter knife right now— obviously because I'm experienced—

but if you're newcomer, make sure you use a sharp knife,

to make sure you get than even cut.

And yeah, you've got yourself a bacon sandwich.

And there is the bacon sandwich, all in its grace.

Lovely!

Thank you guys for watching this episode.

I hope you guys enjoyed another episode of Cooking with Charlie.

Make sure you like, subscribe and leave a comment down below,

and tell me what you thought of the video.

Coming up next—

"If you have burnt toast, rub it with a knife

and it comes off and it's great, and then butter it"-

I haven't decided yet.

What the hell was that about?

[SUBTITLES: @NotJustTWO]

I've only had a little bit of experience in the kitchen.

Made some apple crumble.

NYC Holiday Adventures With Michael | Lucie Fink Vlogs | Refinery29 - Duration: 13:30.

I think I'm wearing pimple cream.

So, hi.

I just woke up.

I don't know where Michael went.

Let's go see.

Hey.

Hm.

We made almond milk ice cubes yesterday.

They turned out well.

They actually look pretty good.

Are you going to put them in your coffee?

I wasn't planning to but I guess I can.

We're on our way to the gym.

It's a new gym I've never been to because our old gym closed for construction so they

moved us to this gym.

Just going for a quick workout.

Michael has been.

How's the gym?

It's good.

It's got everything we need.

Everything?

Literally every single thing.

Ok, am I going to have fun?

You're going to have a blast.

Because I'm really hungry.

I'm working on my handstands and I'm getting better but I'm still only able to do it

against a wall.

I can't just do it in the middle of the room.

But that is my 2018 goal.

I want to be able to walk into this position,

and then just kick up slowly into a handstand.

Like this.

I can't do it!

One, two, three.

You can't go that fast!

We're done.

Time for pancakes!

That's right.

So Michael and I have lived in New York City for four years?

Three to four years.

Yeah.

And even though we live here, I feel like we've never really done the real touristy,

holiday things that happen around the holiday times.

Things like ice skating at Bryant Park.

Or looking at the Rockefeller Christmas Tree.

Or going to Chelsea Market.

He actually went to Chelsea Market for the first time last month.

So I think that today we're going to play tourists in New York and see all of the holiday

things that we can do in the city.

Time for breakfast.

The almond milk ice cubes were left out and they don't look too hot.

Yeah but isn't it going to go bad being in the air?

I don't know about that.

We need one and two-thirds cups of mix to one and a half cups of water.

Alright, that's one.

What?

Michael said this is not what you use to measure solid stuff.

This is just liquids?

Yeah.

Oh.

Got it.

Going to be honest with you, I just transferred the contents into the solids bucket.

And it looks about the same to me.

What do you think?

So what do you have to say for yourself?

It was a test!

Alright Mike so now we add one and a half cups of water to this if you want to go ahead

and use the liquid measurer.

Okay.

Will do.

We believe Michael might have made a couple of them a little too thick.

Notice how he filled up that snowman about halfway.

Off we go.

Alright so it's not—

Kind of more like a Christmas tree.

Not bad.

But it could be better.

This is how they came out.

Honestly they taste pretty good but they look weird.

This one's the closest to the actual shape.

This is a little too thick.

Yeah this is Frosty the Snowman.

Not bad.

But from now on we're just going circles.

Seems like the safest bet for a lot of reasons.

We're on the way to Bryant Park.

First stop to the Christmas markets and the ice skating rink,

that Michael's never been to before.

I've walked past but never actually been into it.

Yeah.

Truly a tourist.

Truly tourist central right now.

Oh look Mike.

We're here and we're going to Bryant Park.

Alright we're going the right way.

We made it and it's a Christmas wonderland in here.

Check it out.

Winter Village.

It looks like there's not that long of a line.

So I have a feeling we're going to get our wristbands, get on the ice rink, and not have

to wait which is so exciting because I've heard—

And fall right away.

We might fall.

But I've heard a lot of people have to wait and there's no line.

So this is great news.

Alright we're on.

Shall I take a lap?

Yeah.

Oh no.

(screaming)

I'm not allowed to do this?

Aw man.

So that was really fun.

We got in trouble two times for having this camera on the ice which is probably smart.

Overall it was fun.

Now we are on our way to eat some Italian food for lunch before we go to Rockefeller

Center and see the big Christmas tree.

(screams)

Sometimes New York City is very scary.

We are about to round the corner.

The tree should be right there.

And,

dun-da-da-dun-da-da-dun!

Dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun!

How does it feel to have made it to the tree?

Feels good, it feels good.

Ya know, I've worked all my life for this.

And all my hard work has paid off.

You think?

I think so, I think so.

You know, it's a little emotional but I'm keeping it together.

Cool!

Let's check out the rink.

This is actually probably the nicest rink in the city I'd say.

So this one is lifted up, and there's a nice gold fountain.

You can see all the people around it.

Just left the Rockefeller Plaza Christmas Tree.

One of the biggest Christmas Trees in the world, I think.

And now we're on our way to stop three of our New York City holiday tour, which is—

Chelsea—

Market.

We just got a text.

We are officially going over to my friend Lauren's house for dinner.

We've never been before but she and her fiancé—

Stan, recently got engaged.

So the four of us are going to have a little double date.

She's cooking us dinner and she just texted me that the entire meal is gluten free and vegan.

Lots of plant based protein coming our way.

We're here!

We took an entire walk through Chelsea Market and we forgot to get a cookie.

So we're going back.

We found one.

Chocolate chip.

Heated up.

All warmed up.

Oh yeah.

We're trying to pick out a present to bring Magenta and Stan.

He's Jewish and she's half-Jewish.

Maybe the star.

This is like holiday chocolates, but wish Jewish holiday colors.

That's right.

I think this is the one.

We've decided to go half Jewish colors, half Christmas colors.

So we're going to get one of these treats.

And we out.

Got our bag to takeover to Lauren's house tonight and now we're off to our apartment

to rest.

Ah!

The day's not even over.

We're packing up a little picnic bag to bring to Lauren and Stan's.

So far we've got this salami that we want to share with them.

These little brownie bites that we made last night so that we can have them for dessert.

We've got this garlic hot sauce that I'm donating to Lauren because I know she's

going to like it.

And then here's the chocolates we got at Chelsea Market.

The little tree.

And we are also bringing over a bottle of white wine.

Just you know, cause we're adults.

And now we are on the way to Queens.

It's really hard to vlog in the rain but we just left for Lauren's and it's freezing.

It's just way too hard to vlog in the rain so I'm going to have to shut you off.

Hello!

Hi guys!

I have roasted vegetables.

Hey Stan!

Hi.

So welcome to our gluten free vegan dinner.

Oh!

I made, from my own brain from scratch, a vegan chili.

She figured it out and decided that this is what it will taste like on the subway.

Yeah.

Isn't that so fun?

So it's filled with quinoa, lentils, carrots, jalapeños, garlic, onion, mushrooms, kale.

Oh my gosh.

Sriracha is the secret ingredient.

Don't worry, it's just a little.

Oh my god wait, is that gluten free?

It should be, yeah.

Okay great.

And then that's it, vegetable broth.

So there's no dairy and no meat.

And this amazing garlic bread.

Wait I have band-aids on all my hands.

(laughing)

Two hands, two band-aids.

Hey guys.

We're all together, and we're playing Settlers of Catan.

Has anyone ever played this game before because I just learned the rules—

It is an actual mess.

Have you learned the rules?

I've been told the rules and I'm still a little confused.

But I have all my houses in settlements.

I have logs—sorry roads.

And we have sour patch kids.

Michael and Lucie are literally fighting—

(Michael and Lucie fighting)

Over a game of Catan.

They are trying to settle.

The kid wants, he wants to give me a sheep in exchange for my wood.

The problem is I'm good with sheep.

Is she a good settler of Catan?

She's very frustrating to play Catan with.

Can I just say, and this is important.

This is a good call by Lucie because her wood is blocked and she can't even collect wood

right now so she can't be trading that away.

Can't be trading that away.

Stan's being too logical.

It's 12:48AM.

Who won Settlers of Catan?

Stan won.

Congrats on your big win.

Thank you.

This means a lot.

I would like to make an acceptance speech.

Is this a good time?

This is a good time.

I would like to thank my mother because if she hadn't given birth to me, I wouldn't

be here in this moment to have this huge accomplishment under my belt.

I also have to say guys, I was straight-up the village idiot the entire time during Catan.

She was not!

I was just the village idiot because I was new to the game and I just didn't understand yet.

But I think next time, they're going down.

YouTube Channel Review - How Did You Do in 2017? - Duration: 5:45.

On behalf of everyone here at vidIQ Merry Christmas and a happy new year.

Ho Ho

HOOOO

My boss made me wear this.

We're coming to the end of 2017 so it's about time we do our YouTube channel audits and

prepare for the next 12 months.

Really Jingle bells.

Hello everyone, welcome to vidIQ, my name is Rob.

If this is your first time here we are the YouTube tool and channel that aims to help

you get more views in less time.

Our tool is free to download, a link is in the description, and while you're at it make

sure to subscribe to the channel and click on the notification bell so you don't miss

anything on our channel.

Snowflakes, really?

So 2017 it certainly was an eventful year for YouTube but how was it for you.

What goals did you set yourself and did you meet them?

To help you analyze the data let's jump into some analytics.

On the main YouTube analytics page click on the dropdown button in the top right that

currently says 28 days and change that to this year or 2017 and that will create quite

a spikey squashed collections of graph.

To find out which were the most successful videos of the year you'll want to look at

the watchtime graph.

The graph will show you overall watchtime for every single day in the year and below

that you can see how much watchtime your best videos pulled in for the channel.

Obviously you want to be looking at the peaks and working out what was successful.

Usually it's new or recent videos and you can click on that data point in the graph

to jump to that specific day and get a breakdown of the watchtime.

While it may seem obvious that a new video may boost views you can quickly start to see

patterns

For example this data tells me that this channel does well when it produces lists video, particular

how-tos on mobile phones.

Now my guess is you're already familiar with this type of broad analysis so let's make

things a little more complex with the comparison tool.

If you click on compare metric and then go to more metrics you can pull pretty much any

data point from YouTube you want.

So if we choose likes as an example this will overlay the performance of video popularity

versus video watchtime.

Looks a little crazy right but what can we work out from this data?

Well here we can see watchtime remained steady but likes increased.

Why might that be?

Well it was the time of year I started to get in front of the camera and talk directly

to you as an audience.

Obviously that had a positive effect on how you engage with my content.

On the flip side it's important to analyze where things didn't go quite so well.

Why did likes increase inline with watchtime here but later on it remain static when watchtime

increased?

Did my content reach a larger, wider audience but not resonant with my core fanbase?

This is the sort of deep dive you can do with the compare metric tool to discover trends

and patterns in your analytics over the long period of time

So set aside some time, play with the metrics and make a note of what you find out.

While we are talking about comparing metrics don't forget vidIQ's analytics page accessed

from the chrome extension button which allows you to compare a wide range of YouTube's key

metrics all on one graph.

Again while this may look daunting at first, simply mouse over the graph to get precise

data for each metric for every day of the year.

Audience engagement is always important and you should be reading and responding to comments

on a daily basis.

And you will know that we love voting polls, there's one on screen right now.

Well now might be a good time to review them.

You can find this information in the cards section of analytics and there will be a mini

poll icon next to voting polls.

Whether you've been asking for feedback on your videos, opinions on the topics you cover

or what videos your viewers would like to see next you'll get some pretty good answers.

Although we can't be held responsible if someone rigs the votes.

Another thing to check is when are you most successful cards shown, at the beginning middle

or end of a video and what prompted the viewer to click the card?

If you do click on the short cut video link this will take you directly to the card editing

screen so you can watch what you did.

"Fortunately for you we've already done a video about this which you can watch by click

on the card on screen now.

On that evidence it would seem that appealing directly to the viewer to click on the card

is a successful strategy.

Which is precisely what we're going to do now.

There are plenty more ways to audit your channel and review your content through real time

analytics, audience retention data and much more in our data driven decisions playlists

- make sure to check it out.

Finally, make sure to visit the competitor analysis tool, again accessed from the vidIQ

chrome extension button.

This allows you to review YouTube channels that you're interested in and see where they

are being successful.

We've got a dedicated tutorial if you need to know how it works but for this task, click

all time and cumulative.

This will show you how channels performed in 2017 and you can see at a glance who did

well.

Scroll down to see growth over the shorter term and scroll down again to see which videos

are performing best for their channels.

It's always a good idea to see what your so called competitors are up and a yearly check

up should definitely been on your audit.

Once you've had a bit of time to crunch those numbers let us know in the comments below

what you thought of your Youtube 2017.

Give it a mark out of ten and let us know why.

And that's it for this video.

I'm done with this hat, I'm done with this music.

Enjoy the rest of your video making day.

Here's to 2018, bye for now

2018 Reading Goals [CC] - Duration: 3:58.

Hi, YouTube, it's Kathy. Happy Bookmas. We are nearing the end of 2017, which means

for a lot of Booktubers we are talking about our 2018 reading goals. 2017 was

really the first year I made concrete reading goals. I mean, I've been on

Goodreads for years and I put you know 50 as my reading goal, or whatever it was,

but besides that, I never really did anything about it. I just kind of read as

much as was going to happen. This year, however, I had three reading goals and I

met all of them by summertime. One of those reading goals was to read at least

a hundred books, and at this point I've read over a hundred and eighty. Another

was to read at least five from countries that I hadn't read from before, and I've

done at least seven, possibly more - I haven't really been keeping track. I just

know I'm past the five. And the other goal was I wanted to participate in at

least one read-a-thon where I was reading full-length books instead of

just graphic novels. Whoa, boy, I've done a bunch of those this year.

Actually, let's see how many.

Okay, I just searched my videos from this year and found all my

read-a-thon TBR's and apparently I've participated in ten readathons this year.

I mean, I'm currently still participating in three of those ten, but still.

In January we have Diversathon 2.0.

In June, there was the Library-a-thon.

In July, the Booktubeathon.

In October, Get Graphic and the Sbooktacular read-a-thon.

Novemember was Nonfiction November as well as the Tome Toggle.

And then of course right now I have the Holiday [Adventure]-a-thon, Sapphicathon, and the Grinchathon.

So that's a review of 2017. For 2018, I'm going to leave my reading goal at at least a hundred books.

I know at this point that I'm so tantalizingly close to getting to 200

books this year, especially with the books that I need to finish for all the

readathons I'm doing right now, but I fear that if I put it too high, it's

going to feel like it's a job and I'm not doing it for enjoyment anymore,

which I don't want. I read for enjoyment. I have all

throughout the year. Sure I've pushed myself to read more because I want to

wrap up as many things as I can in a week, or at least wrap up more than one

thing in a week, but none of that has been bad pressure on me. That has just

been good pressure, and I don't want to increase that pressure and make it into

bad pressure. In 2018, I would like to host a read-a-thon, or at

least co-host a read-a-thon. I think at this point my preference would be to

co-host a read-a-thon, so co-host we found that somebody else is already

doing. So if there's anybody watching this who is going to need a co-host

sometime in 2018, me. Please. It me. And at this point I'm kind of on the lookout

for the third goal. I kind of want to find a longer Reading Challenge that can

last throughout the year that I can put some energy into. Near the beginning of

this year, I found Diversity Bingo and I was really into it for quite a while

and then kind of fell out of love with it for a few reasons, which I've already

discussed in a wrap up I did recently, so I'll link that in places, but if there is

a set of twenty to thirty books on a reading challenge that you know of,

please let me know, especially if you think I'd actually be interested in it.

Like I said, this is only my second year of making actual reading goals, so I

don't want anything super constrictive, because reading is fun, after all.

That's why I do it. I enjoy it, and then I enjoy talking to you about it.

Recently I put a poll up on Twitter asking if people thought that I should change the format of my

weekly wrap ups to just be books, or to keep it as my read/watch/listen or

asking people if they even knew I did wrap ups, and one person voted that out

of the three people that voted so I was like, "are you being a smartass

or do you just actually not know?" I have no way of knowing. But the other two votes

were to keep this format, so going forward I will continue wrapping up what

I read, what I watch, and what I listen to. And that's it - a nice quick video for today.

If you have any thoughts about anything I said in this video, please let

me know down in the comments below. On the way down to the comments, if you

have that Subscribe button, that would be very nice of you. You can like and share

this as you see fit and I will see you tomorrow for more Bookmas. Bye!
