Hey guys! I am back with another project share for you. This project was inspired by Jess
Crafts' many "X Number Of Cards, 1 Paper Pad" videos; I will link her channel below.
She has a ton of videos where she takes one 6x6 paper pad - usually by Doodlebug - and
just mass-produces cards with them. And she always has a corresponding blog post where
she lists off the dimensions that she used and whatnot, and as someone who's just getting
into cardmaking, I do find that very helpful!
So inspired by all of her videos, I decided to try and do something similar with that
"Falalalallama" 6x6 paper pad that I picked up at Michaels a while ago. I can guarantee
these are not nearly as good as what she does, but I did try! [laughs]
So most of these cards were just made with the paper pad and cardstock from those half-pound
packs from Dollar Tree. I used the biggest strips of cardstock that come in those packs,
which end up being just shy of A2 size - A2 cards are 4 ¼ inches by 5 1/2 inches, and
these cards ended up being 4 ⅛ inches by 5 ¼. I'm not sure if I scaled things down
exactly correctly, but I tried!
I did also have to end up using a few embellishments from my stash to finish off the last few cards,
but I'll explain that as I come to them.
So the first 10 cards were made with a slate blue cardstock; I ended up putting white cardstock
in the inside, so that things could be written in them and actually be visible, because the
blue cardstock is so dark.
So this was the first card that I made, and I instantly screwed it up by cutting the base
layer too small [laughs]. As you can see, the second card with the same design looks
a lot better, because the base is covering the majority of the card, whereas this is
too skinny. I did find that the cards looked a little boring just with the base layers
and the cut aparts, so I ended up going into my stash and pulling out these "Merry Christmas" stickers.
This one doesn't want to stick, but this is the screw-up anyways, so whatever. [laughs]
These "Merry Christmas" stickers that were in the Michaels seasonal sticker book.
Oh, and pro tip: Dollar Tree cardstock does NOT like wet glue, apparently. Either that
or I applied too much, although I don't think I did. I ran out of glue runners part
way through making the cards, and couldn't find the others I'd stashed away, so I pulled
out some wet glue to make a few of them. And you can tell which ones they are because they're
kinda curled up. This one, I don't think I used wet glue for it, but it is-- it's
kinda curled. And you'll see which ones were made with wet glue, cuz they're worse than this! [laughs]
Next there are these two "It's Coal: You Know Why" cards, which I really like, probably
because I just think this tag is hilarious.
Then there are these two that say "Ho Ho Ho!" with llamas pulling the sleigh…
For these two, I attempted to use Jess Crafts' trick of using a strip of paper to combine
two scraps of paper into one base layer - on both of these cards, these are two separate
pieces of paper, but if you combine them together, they become one base size. And I think it
kind of worked. I used-- this one was like a border piece that could be cut out, and
this was just a small scrap that I used. And in hindsight, I probably should have put these
embellishments on this one; I just thought that these would bring in some of the pink
a little better, whereas this one already has pink on it, but I think it might be a
little too busy now, and these probably would have worked better on this card, but oh well!
Oh, and this card, I accidentally glued the base layer on to the wrong side of the card
base, so it was like… [laughs]... the card opened this way. So I ended up having to cut
it off and glue it on another card the right way. So this base is nice and extra thick…
or the front of the card, rather, is extra thick, because… I screwed up and had to
fix it!
I attempted to do the same "two scraps as one base" thing with this card; it worked
a little better, cuz the cut apart that I used was bigger, so it kinda hides it better.
But again, I used wet glue on this one, and as you can see, it's all kinda warped, which
sucks. And flattening it out didn't help, so… [laughs]
And this is the last blue card that I made; I was having trouble using up the last of
my scraps and whatnot, and some of the larger, full-page pieces of paper from the pad, but
I think this one turned out okay. In hindsight I probably should have used my corner rounder a
lot more, because I really like how this turned out.
Moving on to the 12 cards I made on this light green cardstock; this one, I didn't put
any white cardstock on the inside, because it's still pretty light on the inside.
So I made two of this design…
Another wet glue, double-scrap card…
This is where things started to get a little more challenging, because I ran out of background
paper, so I had to sort of work with scraps and cut aparts and such to put things together,
but I think these two turned out okay.
These two, I am not so thrilled with; I tried to use up some of my scraps, but I think they
ended up looking a little bit sloppy. And oddly enough, prior to my adding these little
snowflake gems from Dollar Tree, I thought they looked kinda… sparse, with the empty space.
But now that I have the snowflakes on there, I feel like it looks too busy, so… these
ones are kind of a fail, design-wise, I think.
This card uses one of the full-page 6x6 sheets; it took me a little while to figure out how
to use it on a card, but then it occurred to me to put the sentiment on the outside,
and then put the bottom of the page on the inside; then you've got all that space
there to write on. So I think that did turn out pretty cute.
I did the same thing with this one…
This is another card that I struggled with figuring out the balance between too boring
and too busy… initially I just had this border, this stripe, and this blank cut apart…
and then I eventually added this "December 25th" sticker from Dollar Tree, and this "Decembrrrrr"
embellishment from a Pebbles ephemera pack that I bought a while back at a scrapbooking
show… but it still looked really empty with all this blank space. So then I added these
snowflake gems from Dollar Tree, and this little angel llama that was like the last
one out of the paper pad, and I didn't want to not use it… I'm kinda torn on it - sometimes
I like how it came out, and other times I don't like how it came out.
This is a card that I think is not quite busy enough, but I don't know how to make it
more interesting without making it too busy, like I did with some of the other cards. The
background here is actually the half of the blue card I had to cut up, because I had pasted
the base layer on the wrong side of the card. Which was nice to let this turquoise piece
of paper, which is almost the same shade as the green, stick out from the green background.
And then both of these embellishments - the "Holly Jolly Christmas" and the poinsettia
- they were both from that Pebbles ephemera pack as well. And I actually had to fussy
cut this one, because there was a big, thick, ugly white border around it, and it just would've
totally taken away from the whole thing. So I do like how this turned out, but I'm still
kinda... I feel like it's missing something, and I really don't know what to add to it! [laughs]
And then finally, this was another "use up the scraps" card that I ended up being
really happy with, actually. All I did was use the leftover strips of blue cardstock
from when I was trimming them down to make the card bases, and I laid them across the
green card base diagonally, which added some interest. And then I just added-- err, rounded
the corners on these two cut aparts, and taped them down, and there you go! I actually really
like how this came out!
So that's it for this project share! I also have a paper bag mini album that I attempted
to make with some of my scraps, and some of the elements from the paper pack that I was
having a hard time using on cards, although I ended up coming back and making some cards
with the doubles of those pieces, including this one. But that mini album was kind of
a fail, so it's gonna be a separate video! [laughs]
So I hope you enjoyed this; if you did, please give me a big thumbs up. Please subscribe
if you haven't already, and I will see you guys in the next one.
