One of North Korea's most senior military officials is believed to have personally carried
out a secret inspection of the Panmunjeom Joint Security Area... after the recent defection
of a North Korean soldier.
General Ri Myong-su , the head of the Korean People's Army General Staff, conducted the
inspection over a week ago, according to Yonhap News.
South Korean government sources say his personal involvement indicates how seriously the regime
has taken the incident.
The soldier made the daring escape to the South three weeks ago... after driving a car
into the JSA and running across the line marking the inter-Korean border.
Since then, all the guards on the North Korean side have been replaced, a trench has been
dug, and a large gate has been erected on a bridge leading up to the JSA.
