How to make a fondant Penguin / Christmas penguin tutorial - Duration: 4:46.

I'm gonna show you how to make this little penguin. Hey guys this is Veronica

from behindthecake.com and in today's video I'm gonna show you

how to make this little penguin

we're gonna start with some pink fondant and we're gonna make a teardrop shape or

a little cone just for the body and then a ball and we're gonna use it as the head

to give some strength to the figurine use a toothpick in the middle of the

body and the head and this will hold the figurine pretty good. Make the feed using

two little balls and you're gonna press one of the ends and then we're gonna

place them under the figurine don't forget to you some gum glue so you can

stick them. We're gonna use some white fondant kind of like an oval

and we're gonna place it on the center of the body, cut the excess and glue it

to the body. I was using some piping gel but also you can use some gum glue.

Cut a white fondant circle and we're gonna place it on the face also using piping gel.

Cut some white fondant strips or it can be whatever color you want to use for

the ear warmers and also for the scarf.

You can see one of my little helpers in the back, he was trying to climb the table.

Continue using one of the strips just to measure how long you want

the scarf to be and then you're gonna make some cuts just make the end of the scarf really fluffy.

Use two little fondant balls just to place them on the ear warmers.

Make the beak using some orange fondant just a triangle and make a cut in the middle

using some more pink fondant I'm going to create the flippers, just shape them

and we're gonna glue them again with some piping gel. Since this is a very

happy penguin I just put the flippers kind of like up kind of like trying to

fly in to hold the shape I'm going to use some paper towels, and these are your

friend if you want to be modeling some characters or figurines.

Using some gel coloring I'm gonna draw the little eyes. I'm using a color shaper this is a

very tiny one and I'm gonna put the description on the description box below

Try to make both eyes the same size so you don't want them to look kind of like weird.

I like the ear warmers on purple but I think adding a little bit of gold gives

them more light and more festive feel so now it's a very chic penguin.

And here is the final result, isn't she cute ? So what do you think about this little figurine?

you can feel about you're not quite sure what to say how do you feel generally in

big sort of social situations where you've got to meet a lot of people do

you ever feel awkward? D: well if you sort of hear people say the oder you get

the more confident you can your skin I've found it to be the opposite I think

because I've sort of explored different areas of my life and gone down paths

that I didn't expect to when I was younger and dealing with certain

confidence issues that yeah when a big social situation there's something

comforting about knowing you're going with a friend like with that person

gonna be there I'll walk in they'll bomb straight to them but there are occasions

when I found that oh I do know a single person here so you just kind of go and

like hover in the corner Pif you were for example starting a new school how

would you sort of go about calming yourself down or building your

confidence in that situation P: well I think the cliche is that everyone else

in the same boat they're all gonna feel the same as you but I actually never

found that comforting so when I went to university my first lecture I actually

made a couple of friends on Facebook before going through a group saying oh

we're doing the same course one of the people who I made friends with I messaged

and said are you going to that induction thing we'd never met before and he said

yeah I said would you be interested meeting up outside he said yes he is now

one of my best friends we're going on holiday next week like it's taking that sort of

leap of faith of going like this could pay off and maybe that will help me

going in if that's not an option for you if that's something that you don't think

that you can do it's just one of those things where you kind of have to sort of

like take a breath let in the fear for a moment and then remember that the worst

that can happen is you go in there you don't mean anybody and you leave.

P:If people don't accept me for who I am then you know what can you do you can only do

loads of relatives or people family people you've not met before a small

talk the etiquette D: I tell you so I actually went to a party

this time last year with my closest friends my favorite people in the world

and I had had a long week at work and I was done

I just couldn't and I got to the party and I stepped in and I was like I don't

want to be here and so I was just kind of hovering around the room and every

time someone even dared to consider broaching the topic of why I was working

on I was like I'm out and would leave I kind of had to remember two things first

of all they're asking that question to be nice because they're generally

interested in you even if the answer is oh I'm kind of between things at the

moment I'm sort of taking it easy and then you you can turn the question back

on them or you can say did you see this piece of news the other day and you can

talk about the news or something or I don't know rather than just thinking why

is this person asking me that question or if you go to dinner with some people

who you vaguely know but you don't really know you're at dinner party and

you'll put next to someone who is kind of a vague acquaintance at best

don't be afraid to just go and tell me about yourself tell me who tell me how

many sisters you've got how many brothers you've got what did you grow up

and we'll talk about that rather than the most basic small talk

P: they'll be grateful for that I'm sure because they're probably feeling exactly

the same as you yeah and D:that's the thing with us all being in the same boat

like while it isn't necessarily comforting to think that it is true

P:sometimes you're just not feeling the social mood it's really okay to not feel

it sometimes if you're not feeling it all the time that's something that

perhaps you might want to address if you were to have a stomach flu you wouldn't

go to a party if you're thinking I'm not mentally capable to this kind of

interaction today on this one occasion that's completely fine and you should

not beat yourself up about that let that in I have major FOMO so usually I see

people having fun together and I'm like oh my god I'm not having fun with my

friends on a couple of occasions recently I've

decided to not go to something seen the pictures and gone I made the right

choice P: we've all had a really awkward situation that we can't forget and we

play it out in our mind and you'd be lying there D: you said something and you

think oh no how did they take it and then yeah P: and you're like why did I do

that and yeah D: sometimes with people who are about that close to you you can say

something that you think landed slightly wrong in the room

just obsess over it but even days I think I know what I think think about me

will we be friends after this like what's happening odds are no one has

even noticed but you have built up to be this massive thing in your head that the

next time you go on an interaction you're on the watch for doing that and

you're not really behaving like yourself and in a way you can twist that to be

positive for you so if you think that you have behaved a certain way and

perhaps gotten a little bit too defensive over something again odds are

no one else has thought that but if you think you have then maybe you can sit

there and go okay well why did I react that defensively and why was I that you

know guarded or all or what caused me to behave that way and maybe I can sort of

have a think about that and change that the next time I recognized that

situation again and avoid this problem what are your three top tips for dealing

with awkward social situations taking a deep breath so maybe even before each

step I'm out to go out okay cool moving forward here I'm at the door and

let's go and let's do it and to deal with it try to breathe because there is

something nourishing about breathing I find this is why yoga is so great

because you just have to take lots of deep breaths and think and clear

everything out and it's it is calming then also remember that it is okay to

feel that way so if you are feeling tremendously awkward just before walking

into a room that's completely fine that's human and don't allow that

thought of I'm feeling so awkward right now to cascade into something bigger and

then the other one is if you really aren't feeling it on that occasion be

kind to yourself and don't let don't force yourself to do something that you

don't want to do once in a while be good to you P: thank you so much for coming down

Neck Warmer How to | 30 Minute EASY DIY | Whitney Sews - Duration: 3:08.

Hi everyone!

I'm Whitney and I post a new sewing tutorial every Wednesday here on Whitney Sews to help

sewers of all skill levels learn new projects and techniques.

This week I'll be showing how to make a cute, but practical neck warmer in under 30 minutes.

To make your neck warmer you will need two different fabrics measuring about 33.5 inches

x 10 inches.

You can use any fabrics you want, but I recommend a warm fabric for the lining and anything

you like for the outer.

I'm using a basic cotton fabric and a ripple cuddle fabric.

Lay the two fabrics right sides together matching up all the edges.

Use craft clips to hold the layers together.

Then sew around the outer edge with a half inch seam allowance leaving a 4 inch opening

in one of the long sides.

Trim off the corners to reduce bulk.

Turn the entire piece right sides out through the opening left in the side.

Make sure to poke out the corners for a nice crisp look.

Then sew a topstitch around the entire outer edge to close up the opening and finish off

the scarf.

Roll the edges of the seam as you sew to smooth it out and get a nicer look.

Fold your neck warmer as shown to the bottom edge forms a sort of V shape.

You can now use buttons and buttonholes to finish, but I decided to use snaps instead.

I made two dots where I want the snaps to be then used an awl to make a hole through

both layers.

Then I installed the snaps the same way as shown in my tutorial all about installing

plastic snaps.

That tutorial will linked in the information icon in the upper right corner of the video.

I decided to add a third snap across from the other two to help the underlayer stay

in place while the neck warmer is being warn.

And it really is that quick and simple to make your own cozy neck warmer!

So you can whip up one for you and several for your friends.
