We are also going to talk about hats
We will show you a lot of different hats
The hat I am wearing for example. It is a new pattern from Matilda Kruse at Organic knitters.
We are also going to show you Ellas beautiful cardigan that she has finished
and we will show you my new winter sock, Catch a Falling Star

We love all the Christmas preparations in December
Both Dennis and I love to celebrate Christmas
We cook good food, decorate our home and so on
Before the first Advent Sunday we have to check the stars and see if we have all the light bulbs needed
I like to make a wreath to hang on the door
There has to be hyacinths and gingerbread
We also have to read A Christmas Carol by Dickens
And we have to prepare Christmas knitting projects
Ella has finished her beautiful cardigan Höstruta (autumn squares) by Kristin Wiola Ödegard
It is her first stranded knitted cardigan and she has also made her first steek
To steek a cardigan is to cut it up front after you have knitted it in the round
Then she crocheted the edges and she used a nice ribbon in the inside and also chose beautiful buttons
Guess if I am a proud mother?
Ella started to knit last winter and she had not touched the needles since she was 8 years old.
Dennis yoke is taking form and he will soon use the fourth colour. He also started knitting last winter.
Now he has almost finished his first sweater!
It is so much fun for me to have a family that wants to knit together with me!
I have had so many questions about what hat is the best one to knit
It is a difficult question to answer since it depends on what kind of hat you like
It is a good thing if you want to wear the hat after you have gone through the work of knitting it
There are so many kinds of hats, and yarns, and patterns...
Maybe that is why I never get tired of knitting hats
I like many kinds, beanies, berets, slouchy hats, all kinds
Stranded knitted, cabled hats...
Dennis knitted his best hat last winter and that is of course a very nice hat

No I never used to wear one, I think it is a heritage from my father

I can't really tell, I knit new ones all the time.
But or example I like this cabled one very much!

I made this one for you once
I thought you looked great in it but you did not like it
Now I use it myself

This is the Azalea hat, by Matilda Kruse at Organic knitters
This is her first hat design and I think it is lovely!
It is knitted in a new yarn from Rosy Green Wool called Merino d'Arles
It is soft and cosy and produced so it is good for both animals, people and the earth
The wool is french but it is spun and dyed in the UK
It is cerified by GOTS which means that it is a good production
Ella is about to knit the Azalea hat
Matilda Kruse was at the Syfestivalen, the yarn festival we talked about in the latest episode
Yes, and then she had a dark yellow sweater which is also a new pattern by her, called Let it fall
It is so beautiful!

It is called Catch a Falling Star
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket, save it for a rainy day
It is a song sung by Perry Como in the 50's
It is sung in the tv-series Call the midwife
It is a BBC-series that we like a lot
So the name, Catch a Falling Star comes from the song
The colours are from the midwives uniforms.
They have dresses in light blue and white and they also wear red cardigans
That is why I chose the colours
I have knitted my first pair in a hand dyed yarn from Moods of Colors
It is an English sockyarn and it is called Humble regards from Devon
It is non superwash, which means there are no chemicals in it
I sent Gro at Moods of Colors a picture of the midwives in their uniforms and she dyed the yarn
So let´s have a look at the sock!
Catch a Falling Star
Catch a Falling Star is a stranded knitted sock, knitted top down
It has a picot border and the heel is knitted with a classic heel flap where you knit a white star
You will need three colours, about 40g of each colour
You will need a sockyarn, approx 400m/100g and Iuse 2.0 mm needles

I think that thanksgiving, gratefulness is so beautiful and I think the value of gratefulness is underestimated
To appreciate what is given to you, the things we have in life and life itself
To be satisfied is almost not ok or at least not so common
It is often like you are stupid if you are satisfied with what you have. You should want more, buy more and so on
Of course it is ok to try to reach goals , that is not what I mean
The important thing is not to forget the things you already have
This is why I think gratefulness is so beautiful
This is also the season for Thanksgiving celebrations that looks different in different parts of the world
In the US there is a Thanksgiving holiday
I guess the American Thanksgiving is the most famous one
In Sweden the American Thanksgiving is more well known than the Swedish equivalent Tacksägelsen
The second Sunday in October is the Swedish day for Thanksgiving, Tacksägelsen
Most people in Sweden have never heard about that
It is the time of harvest so in church they bring in flowers and vegetables to celebrate the gifts from earth,
the harvest
It is a great symbol for things to be grateful for and giving thanks for
In the US, Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday in November
In Canada it is the second Monday in October
At least this is what I think, what I have been taught
I think you are right but I guess someone will tell you if you are not
In books and movies it has always been so nice to see the celebration of Thanksgiving in the US and in Canada
Families and friends come together, have good food and are grateful for life and the things we have
In Sweden this is not a big holiday and most people do not even know that we have a day to celebrate this
But I guess most people in Sweden have heard of Thanksgiving in the US
We have not imported the Thanksgiving holiday BUT we have imported the Black Friday
The Friday after Thanksgiving that is all about shopping and consuming
It is about shop til you drop, buy or die
This is so strange to me!
We should consume less not more
Of course we must be allowed to shop, we like that to, we like to buy yarns, good food and candles for example
I have bought a hyacinth
I think it is important to be more aware af what we buy and why and how the things we buy are produced
I think Black Friday is hysterical
And the strangest thing here in Sweden is that we do not even have the Thanksgiving which is the nice thing.
We only imported Black Friday. The Thanksgiving and the gratefulness disappeared!
And we do not even understand that we actually have our own Thanksgiving, Tacksägelse
There is a movement called White Monday
It is the opposite of Black Friday
It is about being a conscious consumer
To take care of the things we have and not just throw away and buy new things
We have to think about how the planet we live on is going to survive
It is also important for our souls and senses
How do we shop? How do we consume?
We can mend things, recycle things and learn how to darn socks for example
And it is not dangerous to be grateful, to give thanks, to celebrate Thanksgiving
And we do not need so many things to feel happiness
Do you remember a couple of years ago when I wanted us to invent our own Thanksgiving traditions?
Yes! We wrote notes!
Everyone wrote a note with a list of things that he or she was thankful for
That was exciting!
It was a very nice thing to do
Then we made like a hut in our bed and sat under the quilt and read our notes for each other using a flashlight
Everyone should do that! And it is interesting to see what you are grateful for!
It is quite obvious on a list like that
