Waching daily May 10 2017

Today is the day of Buddha Purnima.

The day of Mahatma Buddha's birth,

The day of His enlightenment,

And the day of His nirvana.

Buddha Purnima.

Buddhism is very rich in its philosophy and rituals.

It has given such beautiful tenets.

Buddham Sharanam Gacchami.

Sangham Sharanam Gacchami.

Dhammam Sharanam Gacchami.

Buddham Sharanam Gacchami - Take refuge in an Enlightened Master, not in your intellectual suppositions.

No matter how intelligent you may be,

No matter how good you may be at giving discourses,

No matter how many books you may have written.

But, you should know that for spiritual upliftment - take refuge in an Enlightened Master, Awakened Master.

It is possible that you may not have such association all the time,

And even if you have continuous association, there are so many limitations to it.

Therefore, Sangham.

It must have been so important for Buddha to break the personal ego,

That He advocated refuge in the Sangha,

Refuge in people like us?

We can take refuge in a Master; do as the Master says.

But to take refuge in discipline? Take refuge in aspirants?

Yes, take refuge in the aspirants.

Take refuge in those like yourself.

Because the dream and discipline they are part of - that is given by Buddha.

And Dhammam Sharanam - Refuge in His Teachings.

Dhamma.

Buddha has taught - create a distance. That's all.

Create a distance from events;

Create a distance from people,

Create a distance from the body.

Create a distance from the thought processes.

Create a distance from the current emotional phases.

This much sadhana (spiritual practice) He has taught.

Just a piece of wood very very near to your eye, and you can't see the big Himalayas in front of you .

And if the same piece of wood is moved away a little,

You can see the piece of wood as well as the Himalayas.

Very clearly.

This happened by creating a distance.

Instantly distance yourself from events,

Just give a suggestion to yourself. 'Two steps - three steps back'

And you will literally realise that you are moving a little away from the event.

You will experience a difference in your feelings as the doer and enjoyer (of consequences).

Watch the movie, that's all.

If someone goes to a cinema and says, "I have got a ticket in the first row!"

It is a good thing for a play.

But for a movie?

You will have to keep looking up like this

Just create a little distance, that's all.

Refuge in the Enlightened Master,

Refuge in the Sangha - Aspirants,

Refuge in His Teachings.

53 immigrants were caught trying to cross Rousse's Dunav bridge.

The truck they were hiding in was stopped for a security check by the border police. The truck had Bulgarian plates.

22 men, 13 women and 18 children were discovered, the youngest of which was only 3 years old. The oldest one was 16.

Most of the immigrants came straight from the refugee center in Harmanli. They were headed towards the Netherlands.

The adults were detained and the children were placed in shelters.

Both drivers of the truck, who are Bulgarian citizens, were also detained.

2017 Reads #61-63 | My thoughts on a hyped author [CC] - Duration: 5:13.

Hey BookTube, it's Sylwia!

So what I've been doing is I've been using a little notebook in which I write down all

my little questions and do my little answers, I guess.

So I'm going to tell you, based on some notes that I took of some books that I read a few

weeks ago, what I thought of That Summer by Sarah Dessen.

So, I read it in this How To Deal bind-up.

Half of it is That Summer and half of it is Someone Like You.

But I'm gonna put That Summer up on the screen.

I'm gonna combine two questions: Did it have adequate representation? and Does it perpetuate

healthy ideals?

It uses the R-word, which we're against.

And the sister relationship was ... cool?

I think I liked it?

Did it teach me something or make me think?

No, BUT the ending message was great.

What was the writing style like?

This is where Sarah Dessen owns the show for me.

Her writing style is A+.

It is engaging, detailed in the best way for the contemporary genre, and I completely believe

that Sarah Dessen is worth the hype.

I will read all of her books.

Are the characters now my all-time favorites?

I really like them but I believe that they were slightly two-dimensional.

I think this is her first book ever?

So, she improves.

Was the plot cleverly-written?

This is what I wrote, I wrote that: "the Sumner and Gwendolyn stuff was clever" and that "it

was so short and simple but it had such complex and interesting details".

That's what I wrote.

Did I enjoy reading it?

YES.

I almost feel like it was too short, but again this was her first book and she expands on

that in her later books.

I also wrote down that I thought that the audiobook narrator did an A+ job.

So then in the same book, How To Deal, I read (I'll either put it here or here) Someone

Like You by Sarah Dessen.

Did it have adequate representation?

So, this one represents teenage pregnancy pretty realistically, sex, mother/daughter

relationships, and friendship.

Did it perpetuate healthy ideals?

I was a little iffy about the sex at first, BUT the message about the sex in this book

is that you shouldn't have sex with someone to make them like you.

They make it sound like you should only have sex with people you love, but I think that

the real message here is don't have sex with people to make them like you.

Only have sex if you want to have sex with someone or, you know, if you love them, whatever.

As long as it's not used as a manipulative tactic in some way because you're gonna get hurt.

Did it teach me something or make me think?

No.

What was the writing style like?

For some reason I put, like, A-minus instead of A-plus, so- it was really, really great.

I'm very impressed with Sarah Dessen's writing ability.

Everything I said about her writing a minute ago holds true here and it has only improved

in my eyes.

Are the characters now my all-time favorites?

I loved the friendship in this book.

If you love female friendships, which I know a lot of you do, I strongly recommend this

book.

Was the plot cleverly-written?

I guess somewhat?

I did find myself thinking, like, "OH!

Oh, that's where we're going?"

Like, so I guess it was!

Did I enjoy reading it?

ABSOLUTELY.

I really, really did.

I plan to read everything else by her.

Then I read Alienated by Melissa Landers.

Did it have adequate representation?

It didn't represent anything.

Did it perpetuate healthy ideals?

You know, I'm very surprised that I'm gonna start this off on a good note.

I really liked that- this is set in kind of a future, like, mildly-futuristic society

from our current society and Melissa Landers takes the opportunity to change slang and,

like, the way we use language.

So, for example instead of saying, like, "that's crazy", they said, like, "that's banana sandwich"

and that's something that I do in my personal life because I don't want people to use the

word "crazy" for fun anymore.

So I really appreciated that, and they also used the term, like, "woman up" instead of

"man up" and not in, like, a way to describe a character, but that's just how this society

now speaks.

BUT.

Even though this society has slightly advanced, they still talk about "cutting carbs" out

of your diet an they talk about violence being a human need, which is ... dumb.

I was gonna try to say that in a more intelligent way, but saying that people are innately violent

is dumb.

Did it teach me something or make me think?

No.

What was the writing style like?

The world-building and the romance are both shown through dialogue, which I thought was

interesting and I did enjoy.

The friendship SUCKED *laughs*.

I'm using a lot of very lazy terminology but I have to say, the friendship was just terribly

written.

It was bad.

And the side characters were all two-dimensional and unbelievable.

Are the characters now my all-time favorites?

Again, the friendship was horrendously-written and all of the side characters were two-dimensional.

Was the plot cleverly-written?

The only things I found clever was what I said about the use of language, the fact that

they cured cancer in this futuristic world, and the fact that they use Spanish words for

cursing kind of like in Firefly they use Chinese words for cursing.

It's not clever, I guess, but it's something I wanted to mention.

I see in my, like, miscellaneous section in my notes that I just wrote the word "parents".

If I remember correctly, I was not satisfied with the way the parents were handled here?

Alright, *chuckle*, that's enough for today, Come talk to me in the comments! <3

Trump's EPA Replaces Scientists With Stooges - Duration: 6:00.

THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY HAS

REMOVED HALF OF ITS SCIENCE BOARD.

THESE ARE INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE ACADEMICS, TRAINED SCIENTISTS,

WHO DO VERY IMPORT HIS WORK PERTAINING TO OUR THINKING

WATER, OUR ENVIRONMENT, AND THE GOVERNMENT HAS DECIDED THEY

WILL NOT RENEW THE CONTRACTS OF THESE INDIVIDUALS BECAUSE

THEY WOULD RATHER REPLACE THEM WITH INDUSTRY TYPES.

SCOTT PRUIT, THE EPA ADMINISTRATOR, HAS CHOSEN

NOT TO RENEW THE TERMS OF NINE OF THE 18

MEMBER BOARD OF SCIENTIFIC COUNSELORS, WHICH ADVISES THE

EPA ON THE QUALITY AND ACCURACY OF THE SCIENCE IT PRODUCES.

THE GROUP, LARGELY MADE UP OF ACADEMICS, IS SET TO BE REPLACED

WITH INDUSTRY OFFICIALS WHO THE EPA REGULATES.

WHY NOT GIVE THEM GOVERNMENT JOBS SO THAT THEY CAN DO THINGS

THAT SUIT THEIR BEST INTERESTS, AS OPPOSED TO THE INTERESTS

OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE?

THE COMMITTEE HAS BEEN A VISTA RATED, ACCORDING TO THE

CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD.

"THE COMMITTEE HAS BEEN EVISCERATED.

WE ASSUMED THESE PEOPLE WOULD BE RENEWED, AND THERE WAS NO

REASON OR INDICATION THEY WOULDN'T BE.

THESE PEOPLE AREN'T OBAMA APPOINTEES, THEY ARE

SCIENTIFIC APPOINTEES.

TO HAVE A POLITICAL DECISION TO GET TO THEM IS A SHOCK" I

WOULD DISAGREE, I DON'T THINK IT IS A SHOCK, AND SO YEAH, THEY

ARE LOOKING OUT FOR THE BEST INTEREST OF THESE CORPORATIONS.

THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT, THEY DON'T

CARE ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER, THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT

CHEMICAL SAFETY, OR ANY OF THESE THINGS THAT THE ACADEMICS

HAVE BEEN FOCUSING ON.

I FEEL BAD FOR THEM, BECAUSE THEY PROBABLY NAœVELY

THOUGHT, THEY ARE JUST WANT TO TAKE SCIENTISTS AND FIRE

THEM AND REPLACE THEM WITH POLITICAL HACKS WHO JUST

WORKED FOR THE COMPANIES THAT WERE SUPPOSED TO ñ

THAT WE ARE SUPPOSED ACTUALLY CHECK ON.

REGULATORS ARE KIND OF LIKE COPS, RIGHT?

THEY WANT TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE BREAKING THE LAW, HURTING

PEOPLE BY PUTTING DANGEROUS STUFF IN THE WATER OR AIR, ETC.

SO THEY WERE SURPRISED TO FIND OUT THAT THEY WOULD FIRE THE

COPS AND HIGHER THE ROBBERS, BUT THAT IS THE WHOLE POINT OF THE

TRUMP ADMINISTRATION.

SCOTT PRUITT SUED THE EPA 13 TIMES.

ONE OF THE REASONS WHY HE SUED THE EPA WAS BECAUSE HE

DISAGREED WITH REGULATIONS PERTAINING TO PESTICIDES.

THE EPA HAD BANNED A CERTAIN TYPE OF PESTICIDE BECAUSE

IT WAS FOUND TO BE DANGEROUS, NOT ONLY TO THE ENVIRONMENT

BUT TO HUMANS, AND SCOTT PRUITT WAS LIKE, I DON'T DISAGREE

ñ I DON'T AGREE, GOING TO GO AHEAD AND SUE THEM.

ARE YOU A SCIENTIST?

ARE YOU AN EXPERT?

OR ARE YOU A POLITICAL HACK?

HE HAS TAKEN THE SAME MONEY FROM ñ HE HAS TAKEN MONEY FROM THOSE

SAME CORPORATIONS, I KNOW THAT COMES AS A SHOCK TO YOU GUYS,

AND WHEN HE WAS GOVERNOR OF OKLAHOMA HE WOULD SOMETIMES CUT

AND PASTE THINGS THAT THE LOBBYISTS HAD SENT HIM, AND THEN

SUE THE EPA WITH THEIR OWN WORDS.

AND BY THE WAY, SINCE HE BECAME HEAD OF THE EPA, THAT SAME

PESTICIDE?

HE REMOVED THE BAN ON IT, EVEN THOUGH SCIENTISTS SAID THAT

IT HURTS CHILDREN AND FARMWORKERS.

BUT WHO CARES ABOUT THEM?

BECAUSE LITERALLY, A SPOKESMAN FOR THE AGENCY, HENCE SCOTT

PRUITT, SAYS THE ADMINISTRATOR, THAT SCOTT PRUITT, BELIEVES WE

SHOULD HAVE PEOPLE ON THIS SCIENTIFIC BOARD WHO UNDERSTAND

THE IMPACT OF REGULATIONS ON THE REGULATED COMMUNITY.

THEY DON'T MEAN YOUR COMMUNITY, YOUR FAMILIES OR WHERE THEY

LIVE, THE REGULATED COMMUNITY MEANS THE BUSINESSES WHO

ARE BEING REGULATED.

SO THEY SAY, WELL WE NEED THEIR REPRESENTATIVES TO UNREGULATE

THEM.

WHAT AM I, FRANKIE?

A PAINTED AS, THESE POOR GUYS HAVE NO REPRESENTATION,

THEY HAVE NO VOICE.

THEY HAVE GIANT LOBBIES.

THEY HAVE MORE REPRESENTATION THAN THE AVERAGE AMERICAN

DOES, AND THEY WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO.

THEY ALREADY HAVE ALL THESE LOBBYISTS, THEY ALREADY

PRESSURE THE EPA, THEY MAKE THEIR CASE TO THE EPA AND

THE POLITICIANS NONSTOP.

IT'S NOT LIKE, I'VE NEVER HEARD OF THEM.

THIS COMPANY THAT MAKES PESTICIDES CARES ABOUT THIS

ISSUE?

I WONDER WHY THEY DIDN'T BRING IT UP?

THEY BROUGHT IT UP, TO THE TUNE OF $200 MILLION, CONSTANTLY.

SO, THE OPPOSITE OF CORPORATE HACKS WHO ARE THERE TO

DEREGULATE, ARE NOT REAL SCIENTISTS.

THE OPPOSITE, AND THIS MAY BE UNFAIR, OUR ENVIRONMENT

ACTIVISTS.

SCIENTISTS ARE NOT ON THAT SPECTRUM.

AND THEY ARE THE ONES WHO ARE SUPPOSED TO HAVE THIS JOB.

THIS JOB IS DETERMINING IF A PESTICIDE IS DANGEROUS OR

NOT, BECAUSE WE MIGHT NEED PESTICIDES, AND IF THEY ARE

SAFE, GOOD.

BUT IF THEY ARE NOT SAFE, WE DON'T WANT THE KIDS AND THE

FARMWORKERS TO DIE OR GET SICK RIGHT?

IF A DEMOCRAT CAME IN AND SAID, I DON'T WANT SCIENTISTS,

I'M ONLY GOING TO PUT ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIVISTS

THERE, PEOPLE WOULD LOSE IT.

THEY WOULD BE LIKE, HOW DARE YOU!

YOU ARE TURNING OVER THE

EPA TO GREENPEACE!

WHICH IS MONUMENTALLY UNFAIR, BECAUSE THE

EPA, GREENPEACE AND ENVIRONMENT ACTIVISTS ACTUALLY BELIEVE

IN SCIENCE.

THEY WANT TO SERVE THE PEOPLE

THAT PAY THEM, AND NOT THE

PEOPLE WHO THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO PROTECT.

IT IS THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY.

THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT, AND THEY ARE

GOING TO DO THE EXACT OPPOSITE.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT DONALD TRUMP GETS YOU.

The Real Reason Trump Fired Comey - Duration: 4:48.

JAMES COMEY FIRED AS THE HEAD OF THE FBI, HE WAS INVESTIGATING

TRUMP'S CONNECTIONS WITH RUSSIA, STATED THAT PUBLICLY, AND

APPARENTLY HE WAS FIRED WHILE VISITING THE BUREAU IN LOS

ANGELES FOR THE FBI; HE WAS TAKEN COMPLETELY BY SURPRISE BY

IT.

AS WE REPORTED EARLIER IN THIS BREAKING NEWS STORY, THE FIRING

SEEMS TO BE IN A PANIC, SO THEY PUT OUT A PRESS STATEMENT NOW,

WHERE SENIOR WHITE HOUSE AND JUSTICE DEPARTMENT OFFICIALS ARE

SAYING, NO, THEY'VE BEEN WORKING ON BUILDING A CASE AGAINST JAMES

COMEY FOR A WHOLE WEEK.

YOU ARE GOING TO FIRE THE HEAD OF YOUR FBI, AND YOU ONLY HAD ñ

YOU ONLY SPENT A WEEK?

LESS THAN A WEEK, BECAUSE THEY SAID LAST WEEK ñ

THEY SAID LAST WEEK THEY WERE WORKING ON IT.

ONE WEEK?

IF YOU WERE GOING TO REMOVE THE HEAD OF YOUR FBI, WHEN YOU

HAVE A REPLACEMENT?

THEY DON'T HAVE A REPLACEMENT.

WHAT YOU COME UP WITH A LITTLE BIT BETTER OF AN EXCUSE

THAN, I FIRED HIM BECAUSE OF WHAT HE DID TO HILLARY CLINTON?

WE REPORTED THIS EARLIER, DEPUTY GENERAL SAID THAT HE COULDN'T

DEFEND HOW HE HANDLED THE HILLARY CLINTON INVESTIGATION.

ONE OF THE THINGS HE SAID WAS, FOR HIM TO RELEASE DEROGATORY

INFORMATION ABOUT HER DURING THAT PRESS CONFERENCE WAS

UNACCEPTABLE.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

YOUR WHOLE CAMPAIGN WAS ABOUT DEROGATORY INFORMATION TO

WORDS OF THE REQUEST.

YOU CHANTED LOCK HER UP.

I'M VERY CURIOUS TO SEE WHAT THE RESPONSE OF HIS SUPPORTERS

WILL BE.

IF THAT IS THE EXCUSE HE IS GIVING ñ I GO BACK TO THE RNC ñ

A LOT OF PEOPLE WERE ASSESSED WITH BASHING HER, WITH LOCK HER

UP, AND IF HE IS USING THAT AS THE EXCUSE FOR FIRING COMEY...

THAT'S WHY THEY PUT ONE EXTRA LINE IN, THEY SAID THAT HE

SHOULD NOT HAVE CLOSED THE INVESTIGATION OF HILLARY

CLINTON.

BUT REMEMBER, HE KNEW ALL OF THAT, THE DEPUTY ATTORNEY

GENERAL KNEW ALL OF THAT, AND THEY MADE AN ACTIVE SHOW OF

KEEPING COMEY ON ANYWAY.

THIS IS NOT NEW INFORMATION.

IS INCREDIBLY DISINGENUOUS TO ATTEND THAT STUFF THAT

HAPPENED MONTHS AGO IS NEW INFORMATION.

IT ISN'T.

WHY ALL OF A SUDDEN LAST WEEK, IF YOU ARE TO BELIEVE, IT'S NOT,

IS EVEN MORE RECENT THAN THAT, OH MY GOD JAMES COMEY DID A

PRESS CONFERENCE ABOUT HILLARY CLINTON AND DIDN'T CHARGE

HER, AND THAT MAY DEROGATORY COMMENTS?

DID ANYONE NOTICE?

NOBODY KNEW THIS.

NOBODY KNEW THAT THE JAMES COMEY WAS ñ

MESSAGES WAS GOING TO BE SO COMPLICATED.

AND HERE'S THE GREAT TRUMP QUOTE ABOUT THIS, BECAUSE HIS QUOTES

ARE USUALLY QUITE TELLING, SO HE SAYS, " WHILE I GREATLY

APPRECIATE YOU INFORMING ME ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS THAT I

AM NOT UNDER INVESTIGATION, I NEVERTHELESS CONCUR WITH THE

JUDGMENT OF THE DEPARTMENT INVESTIGATION THAT YOU ARE NOT

ABLE TO IN ñ EFFECTIVELY LEAD THE BUREAU."

IN OTHER WORDS, IT'S ABOUT TRUMP BEING INVESTIGATED.

AND COMEY SAID THAT THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION LINKS WERE BEING

INVESTIGATED, SO TRUMP GOES, HE DIDN'T SAY ME PERSONALLY.

THAT'S BECAUSE HE HAD TO DO THE INVESTIGATION.

APPARENTLY HE HAD DONE ENOUGH OF IT.

TRUMP, YOU ARE SO STUPID, IT IS GOING TO DRAW EVERYONE'S

ATTENTION.

YOU'VE ALREADY DRAWN EVERYONE'S ATTENTION, BUT JUST TO REMIND

EVERYONE AS YOU ARE FIRING JAMES COMEY, THIS IS NOT ABOUT

THE RUSSIAN INVESTIGATION.

SO STUPID.

IF WE DIDN'T ALREADY KNOW THAT THERE WAS GIANT SMOKE COMING OUT

OF THE BUILDING, IT'S LIKE YOU POINTED TO THE SMOKE GOING, NOW

REMEMBER, THIS IS NOT ABOUT THE SMOKE, AND WHEN THERE'S SMOKE,

THERE DEFINITELY ISN'T FIRE! AND I DIDN'T LIKE THAT FIRE.

Live from National Election Commission - Duration: 1:42.

Let's now turn to our Lee Ji-won, who is standing by at the commission's headquarters.

Ji-won, can you tell us more?

Connyoung, this was an unprecedented presidential election following the former President Park

Geun-hye's impeachment, and so president-elect Moon Jae-in will become Korea's next leader,

once his win is confirmed at the National Election Commission's general meeting at around

10 past 8.

The vote count finished about 30-minutes ago,... and since then, people here at the NEC have

been busy going through all the related paper work.

But unlike previous presidential elections, Moon will not have the usual 60-day mandatory

transition period, but become Korea's 19th president the moment the NEC's chairperson,

Kim Yong-deok, strikes the gavel at the end of the general meeting.

There has been no mention of how Moon will receive his certificate of election, but former

presidents Park Geun-hye, Lee Myung-bak and the late Roh Moo-hyun all had their proxies

pick it up.

It's very likely Moon will do the same.

Meanwhile, the final voter turnout was 77-point-two percent, one-point-four percent higher than

the 18th presidential election, and the highest in 20 years, after the 15th presidential election.

Well that's all I have for now, back to you Connyoung.
