Trump calls for ditching new launch system aboard aircraft carriers

President Trump has expressed his displeasure with a new system for launching planes from

the next generation of Navy aircraft carriers, and said in an interview that he's ordered

the Navy to scuttle the high-tech electromagnetic system in favor of an old-fashioned steam

catapult.

"[You're] going to goddamned steam, the digital costs hundreds of millions of dollars more

money and it's no good," Trump recounted telling the Navy.

Trump says he was upset with reports of problems with the new Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch

System, or EMALS, which is an integral part of the new Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carriers.

For decades, carriers have launched their aircraft using steam catapults, which takes

up a large amount of space below decks and requires heavy maintenance.

Since the Navy decided that the Ford class of carriers would use electromagnetic catapults,

the service has wrestled with whether the technology would be mature in time to be used

aboard the first ship in the class, the Gerald R. Ford, which will be commissioned this year.

Trump toured the ship and gave a speech in the ship's hangar deck on March 2, and called

for a 12-carrier Navy.

In the interview with Time conducted Monday night, Trump recounted a conversation he had

with an unnamed official about problems with EMALS built by General Atomics.

"I said you don't use steam anymore for catapult?

No sir.

I said, 'Ah, how is it working?'

'Sir, not good.

Not good.

Doesn't have the power.

You know the steam is just brutal.

You see that sucker going and steam's going all over the place, there's planes thrown

in the air.'

Trump said that "sounded bad to me."

"Digital.

They have digital.

What is digital?" he told Time.

"And it's very complicated, you have to be Albert Einstein to figure it out.

And I said � and now they want to buy more aircraft carriers.

I said what system are you going to be � 'Sir, we're staying with digital.'

I said no you're not.

[You're] going to goddamned steam, the digital costs hundreds of millions of dollars more

money and it's no good."

Reached for comment, Huntington Ingalls said "The catapult system is provided to us by

the government," and referred follow-ups to the Navy.

General Atomics has not responded to a request for comment and the Navy said it was formulating

a response.

"Obviously the president has an incomplete understanding of electromagnetic catapult

system," said Loren Thompson, COO of the Lexington Institute, a policy think tank that is partially

funded by industry.

"The legacy catapult is the last vestige of the steam-powered Navy.

The electromagnetic system is the wave of the future.

The idea that the Navy would not want to move on to the latest technology is not consistent

with making America great again."

The Time magazine interview was published early Thursday morning.

But a healthy-minded individual will make every effort to change things, so they can

Let's be real.

Everyone knows it: gossip is a part of life.

But rather than become the hub for all the juicy tidbits circulating throughout the office

or in your friend group, walk away from conversations that could hurt someone else.

It's another if you find yourself engaging in "trash talk" about someone else.

Get honest with yourself about things you've said to hurt people.

Apologize, if needed, and commit to being more respectful in the future.

There's nothing wrong with relying on your support system when you're struggling.

But it's a problem if you have a never-ending string of requests, and never return the favor.

Do you find yourself hiding when you know people are asking for help?

Do you make excuses for why you can't lend a hand or offer assistance?

If your birthday rolls around and no one wants to celebrate, you might have to acknowledge

the fact that your friends have jumped ship.

But if you really want to know why, reflect on your recent behavior.

Have you been negative, demanding, or overly dramatic?

More than likely, you've pushed people away without even realizing it.

Be brutally honest with yourself about why your friends have bailed.

Reach out to them, allow them to express any frustration about your behavior, and then

decide whether the friendship is worth saving.

If it is, apologize, and commit to making changes.

Drama queen

You might be hooked on the attention you get when your life is in tatters, but your loved

ones will grow tired of listening to your drama.

If you're not looking for solutions to your problems, you've probably allowed toxicity

to enter into your life.

"It's good, good, good, good, good, and then there's that thing in my head where it's

like 'Time to sabotage."

Identify any negative patterns that keep your life crazy.

If you're feeling ignored and neglected by loved ones, communicate how you're feeling

and then find new, productive ways to keep in touch.

The grudge

If you're refusing to cut ties with people who hurt you, or if you're determined to hold

a grudge, it's difficult for those around you to be supportive.

Things will never improve as long as you stay in a toxic situation or mindset.

If you aren't willing to take the necessary steps to better your own life, why should

you expect anyone to stick around and listen to you complain?

Accept someone's apology and work hard on forgiveness.

Throw away mementos from a failed relationship.

Find a new hobby where you can make new friends.

Moving on takes effort, but one day you'll look back and be able to see how far you've

come.

Know it all

Wouldn't it be great if we could be both right and happy all the time?

Sure!

Is that possible or realistic?

Absolutely not.

If you find yourself irritated because you made a mistake at work, or you were proven

wrong by your significant other, you might need to ask yourself if these types of arguments

are really worth it.

Learn to be content with allowing others to find their own answers, especially if it means

keeping the peace.

When you find yourself focusing only on what could go wrong in a situation, you're valuing

negativity over all of the positives that exist around you.

After a while, this type of behavior will attract other toxic, negative people and you

may find yourself struggling to feel good about anything.

Surround yourself with positive people and focus on being less pessimistic.

Create a gratitude journal, and before bed each night, list five things that happened

during your day for which you are thankful!

Are you regularly hogging the spotlight and cutting people off?

Dominating the conversation is not only inconsiderate and selfish, it sends the message that you

aren't interested in anyone else's life but your own.

People are always telling me that I do, and it seems to cause no end of aggravation.

Make an effort to keep the conversation balanced so that you — and your friends — walk

away feeling valued, and heard.

It's no fun realizing you're responsible for the negativity in your life.

But the good news is that the sooner you take ownership of your role in your unhappiness,

the sooner you can kick toxic behaviors to the curb.

Commit to making healthy changes.

GETTING A HAIRCUT IN HANOI VIETNAM - Duration: 12:02.

It's a nice day, not too hot, today I'm going pop out

and take you with me, I'm going to get a

haircut, get a haircut and a bit of a

shave. Freshen up, haven't had one for a

little while, thought we might as well try a

haircut in Hanoi. Always busy out...there's the

trouble, those taxi's. They are the only real

menace in Hanoi, they drive crazy, they're

always on the edge of an accident,

overly honking their horns. Anyway I'm

going to pop down this street

I'm not sure of the name, I'll see if I can see a name.

Now it's quite a famous street for food

actually but I've been told there's good

hairdressers down here as well.

One hundred and fifty thousand Vietnamese Dong

OK that's expensive.

So the only thing is it's probably a little

bit touristic and the prices are not

much different than they are back home

to be honest. So let's see if we can suss this

out.

Oh man, look at the fruit here, we've got the .... these mangoes are

so sweet.

darker oranges but they're quite... quite

orange inside they're not actually...

although they're green, they're really

hairdressers down the street

two of them were exclusively ladies cuts

and the first one I got to had only US

dollars up and thats a no-no for me, If they're

if there's pricing in US dollars they're

not doing local haircuts and the prices

in that place were probably about two

two and a half times what you would pay

in Thailand for an equivalent haircut

I'm looking for something that's eh, that

the locals would use. I always like to

try the local barbers, if it ends up being

touristic you're just going to get a

regular buzz cut for three times the

price.

So I'm now out by the lake, I hope the wind

is not creating too much distortion on

the sound. So we've got the.....

this is obviously where all those little

electric scooters go off from, the

tourists always in the old town on these

electric sort of golf buggy or tour buggy.

Right got to find a haircut onwards and

upwards. They're the donut ladies, there where not to buy donuts from I mean I'll

explain in another video on my channel

about sweet food in Hanoi or why those

donuts that have been out on the streets all

day long

probably baked or cooked many hours ago,

are not the ones to get

I'll also show you where you can get really

good fresh doughnuts the ones that the

locals do like to eat. So finding a haircut in

Hanoi is a lot harder than I thought

you've either got to go in the old

quarter and really get that Western

experience US dollar haircut or a lot

more difficult, obviously should have

done my research

different parts of Asia you get

different haircuts, Obviously that's my

first Vietnamese haircut and it was good

good experience, hundred and fifty

thousand was apparently a little

expensive but it's around about seven or

eight dollars Australian so quite cheap compared to what we pay

back home. I'm told by the guy in

the hotel where we're staying that he paid about

forty thousand so it's higher but

when you're foreign in these places you

always going to have to pay a little bit

above the odds but it was a good

5 Stories Everyone Is Ignoring While the Media Implodes over Trump Firing Comey

A power hungry president has kicked a power player out of office, and the mainstream media

is having a field day. Headlines have obsessively focused on Trump�s termination of FBI Director

James Comey and the implications that come with it, drawing comparisons to Richard Nixon�s

Watergate scandal and questioning Trump�s decision to fire the man who was leading an

investigation into the president�s own alleged misconduct.

While the drama currently unfolding will certainly have profound implications for the present

and future, the theatrics playing out on telescreens around the country are hardly representative

of the bigger picture in the United States. As millions of Americans fix their eyes and

minds on the ongoing developments, other stories are lurking behind the curtain � and reveal

far more about the struggles we face.

We're revolutionizing the news industry Though they have received some coverage from

corporate and establishment outlets, these stories are being forced out of the conversation

by round-the-clock coverage of political figureheads warring in Washington.

Here are five to follow:

1. The Pentagon is seeking a troop increase in Afghanistan after 16 years of repeating

that exact mistake � The last time Anti-Media put together a list of stories falling by

the wayside amid a media feeding frenzy � that time, it was Trump�s decision to bomb Syria

� an increase of troops in Afghanistan made the cut. Unfortunately, it�s a recurring

development. As various mainstream outlets reported � with little traction � the

Trump administration is considering sending as many as 5,000 more troops to Afghanistan.

Though options are still being considered � and even Trump and the likes of Condoleezza

Rice have pushed for a different strategy � the potential increase amounts to business

as usual for an empire mired in endless war with a country still plagued by the very same

terrorists the United States vowed to eradicate sixteen years ago when the invasion first

commenced. There are currently over 8,000 troops in Afghanistan, making a spike of several

thousand troops significant and a sign of the military-industrial establishment�s

continued hold over American foreign policy.

2. FDA-approved drugs come with rampant safety hazards � According to an analysis published

this week in the Journal of the American Medical Association, 32% of drugs deemed �safe�

by the Food and Drug Administration were later flagged as potentially harmful. According

to the study, which examined 222 novel therapeutics approved between 2001 and 2010, postmarket

safety events included the agency either recalling drugs, issuing additional box warnings, or

publishing �safety communications� for them. These after-the-fact safety actions

were common among biologic and psychiatric drugs, as well as drugs granted expedited

approval by the FDA.

Ultimately, this is unsurprising considering the agency is run by pharmaceutical insiders,

the industry provides funding directly to the agency, and the agency often uses studies

sponsored by drug companies to make its determinations. What continues to be surprising � however

often the disparity is raised � is that same agency�s refusal to consider cannabis

a potential medical treatment, even as it approves synthetic pharmaceutical versions

of the exact same substance.

3. The Dakota Access Pipeline Has Already Sprung a Leak � Despite months of protests

expressing concern that the highly-contested pipeline could threaten environmental safety

and water resources, the project was pushed through and demonstrations were violently

suppressed. On Wednesday, however, it was revealed that the pipeline leaked 84 gallons

at the start of April. Though this is a relatively small amount, the pipeline is not even operational

yet. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources did little to announce the spill

to the public, instead opting to simply issue a report on its website. Pipeline leaks run

rampant around the country, and according to a recent report from KCET, there have been

over 740 leaks just in North Dakota in the past year alone. That amounts to a leak or

spill every 11 hours and 45 minutes.

4. Cop Sues After Being Fired for Not Shooting a Suicidal Man � A former cop is suing the

city of Weirton, West Virginia, after he was fired for not shooting a man who was threatening

to kill himself. According to former officer Stephen Mader, a former Marine, �To tell

a police officer, when in doubt either shoot to kill, or get fired, is a choice that no

police officer should ever have to make�� The suicidal man, Ronald J. Williams, had

been begging officers to shoot him, and another officer eventually did so, ending his life

and preventing Williams from ever receiving mental health treatment. Mader also alleges

that after Williams was killed, the city of Weirton waged a campaign to discredit him

and his performance on the job prior to the shooting. Considering police shootings still

occur daily in the United States � whether because the victim is mentally ill, the wrong

race, or simply toting a toy gun � Mader�s story highlights the grave lack of accountability

many violent officers still face, as well as the struggle many well-meaning cops face

to remain virtuous in a barrel of bad apples.

5. NSA continues warrantless mass surveillance of millions of Americans � This story actually

broke last week, but it received little attention or concern from the American public. The International

Business Times summarized the findings of a recent report from the Office of the Director

of National Intelligence:

�Even under the revised law, which only allows the NSA to collect call metadata about

individuals who have suspected ties to terrorism, the NSA was able to gather more than 151 million

phone records despite having warrants for just 42 individuals in 2016 � and just a

handful more from the year prior.�

Though Americans may be continually comfortable with mass surveillance, convincing themselves

they have nothing to fear because they�ve done nothing wrong, this story is particularly

relevant considering the FBI, like the NSA, has engaged in spying on the public many times

over. In fact, the FBI itself helped pioneer technology the NSA uses for its surveillance

practices. Remember, also, James Comey�s past tirades against encryption and his insistence

on total government access to Americans� smartphones and data.

Remember, also, that the FBI Comey chaired has a track record of everything from operating

a child porn site in the name of stopping child porn to concocting fake terror attacks

for the sake of stopping terrorism � not to mention its transgressions throughout its

decades-long history.

As the nation continues to remain fixated on the action-packed narrative between the

FBI and the White House, we should all keep in mind that there is far more to be learned

from

the stories the media isn�t obsessing over.
