but, uh... I've secured transportation.

Matt has become very single-minded
about a particular belief.
I need to know you're with me,
that you'll help me bring Kevin back to Miracle.
Matt really believes that he has to do
everything that he can to bring Kevin back
to the place where at least Matt believes that he belongs.
In the first season, he's taken it upon himself to prove
that a lot of the people who disappeared in the Departure
were horrible people.
He has a sense of mission, and he has a central belief.
And he will not move from that.
There is no flexibility.

I need to hear the truth.
CHRISTOPHER ECCLESTON: He always attributes everything he does to God.
I believe that a reverend minister
who does not get taken
when the Rapture does or does not happen
would not become an atheist. He'd become even more religious.
It was a test.
Not for what came before, but for what comes now.
Now he's trying to prove that a certain person is the messiah.
That's Matt's life force, and his life fuel.
LINDELOF: Matt's belief that Kevin Garvey
is some sort of messianic figure
that he must now write this book about
has caused a real rift with Mary.
Did you know that Matt won't let me cross the city limits?
She ends up taking her son and leaving Matt,
but he understands this is the role of an apostle,
that I have to let my own family abandon me
in order to sort of follow the man that I believe in.
Everything is for God.
I sacrificed my happiness.

When a human being's behaving like that,
you end up thinking "Is this for God,
or is this for yourself," you know?
There's an insecurity about Matt that God fills.
I'm talking to you!
He's remarkably resilient. He always comes up
with something to keep going.
He keeps believing and keeps believing.
