Today, I'm going to be talking about why singular they/them pronouns are awesome.
What we have learned is that people who speak different languages
Do indeed think differently and that even flukes of grammar can profoundly affect the way we see the world.
Research teams of Stanford University and MIT led by Lera Boroditsky have] made some amazing discoveries.

especially if you're a linguist nerd like me
I find them fascinating
Especially how the Kuuk Thaayorre language group of Australia has used language to greatly enhance their navigational skills by using
Cardinal directions for North South East and West instead of [Right/left] forwards and backwards, they have been able to perform
Navigational Feats previously thought Beyond human capacity. The part that I felt relevant to this topic
Though was about how grammatical gender in languages such as german and Spanish can greatly affect the speaker's
Conceptualization of inanimate objects I'm going to read this entire quote because I think it's incredibly relevant and important. In one study
We asked German and Spanish speakers to describe objects having opposite gender assignment in those two languages. The descriptions
They gave differed in a way predicted by grammatical gender.
For example when asked to describe a key, a word that is masculine and German and feminine and Spanish, the
German speakers were more likely to use words like hard
Heavy jagged metal serrated and useful whereas Spanish speakers were all likely to say Golden

To describe a bridge, which is feminine and German and masculine in Spanish, the German speakers said

This was true even though all the testing was done in English, a language without grammatical gender.
[I] believe that this quote is the strongest argument for singular They/them pronouns.
Consider this, while referring to a person in English with gendered pronouns
Doesn't not seem conceivable, probable even, that the speaker will [be]
Connecting the feminine and masculine with the pronouns of the human of whom they were talking.
We know that women can be masculine and men can be feminine.
But we also know objectively that keys and bridges are inanimate objects and therefore do not engage in gender presentation or gender roles.
Yet this seems to still affect the speaker's
Conceptualization of these inanimate objects. Since we as English speakers are
Continually forced to describe a person's gender through pronouns. And the words she/her are considered
Feminine pronouns, and the words he/him are considered Masculine pronouns. We continue to reinscribe Masculine and feminine traits,
roles, and demeanors, onto individual humans.
[I] believe that referring to people with they/them pronouns has the effect of intentionally not putting their gender at the forefront of every
Interaction. Just as the Kuuk Thaayorre are extra hyper aware of compass direction in their day-to-day lives
English speakers are made to be hyper aware of a person's gender in order to have simple linguistic interactions with them.
I think singular they pronouns are our best way to change that. We can't pretend that we as queer people are immune from the linguistic
effects of our language.
I love singular they pronouns. The more the merrier
I say! If you're a cis person, or a binary trans person, or gender questioning or gender non-conforming, and you want to use they/them pronouns
Go for it! You're not co-opting any minority groups existence.
You're helping to change a language and therefore the cognitive process of the ways that [people] think about gender. In this video
I'm not suggesting that we all go around using they/them pronouns for everyone,
We should respect people's pronoun preferences. This video is advocating for people to use they/them pronouns
When asked [to] without question, and for people are wondering if they/them pronouns the right for them, give it a go.
Languages change often slowly and unguided, but sometimes rapidly and by design.

Good morning, we are expecting more refreshing weather on this Tuesday.
Temperatures will be a couple of notches higher than yesterday here in Seoul under partly

61% of Japanese oppose renegotiating 'comfort women' deal - Duration: 1:28.
Recent surveys by media outlets in Japan show the majority of Japanese people do NOT want
Tokyo to renegotiate the 2015 deal with Seoul aimed at resolving Japan's wartime sexual
enslavement of Korean women.

Aram...61 percent of respondents to a Yomiuri Shimbun survey say the agreement should stay
as it is, which may pose a problem to President Moon Jae-in who wants to change the terms
of the deal....
Yes Jihye... only 25 percent of the respondents are on board with President Moon and think
Seoul and Tokyo should re-discuss the agreement, which was reached under the former Park Geun-hye
administration.
The survey was conducted from Friday through Sunday and shows there is negative public
sentiment in Japan toward renegotiating the deal.
A separate survey by Fuji TV conducted on Saturday and Sunday also showed that nearly
82 percent of Japanese citizens supported Tokyo's decision to reject calls by Seoul
for a renegotiation of the agreement, while only about twelve percent said they did not.
Meanwhile, the Yomiuri survey asked participants about the future of bilateral relations under
the Moon administration, in which 58 percent responded that they would not change.
Twenty-three percent said they would deteriorate and eight percent said they would improve.

Japan brushes off UN panel's call to revise 2015 agreement on Japan's wartime sex slavery - Duration: 2:22.
Japan is refusing to revise a controversial deal made with South Korea on wartime sex
slavery issues.
The agreement, reached in late 2015,... is considered deeply flawed as it was reached
by the corrupt Park Geun-hye administration... behind closed doors... without consent from
the victims or the public.

Japan's chief cabinet secretary has said Tokyo is not legally compelled to revise its deal
with Seoul on Japan's wartime sexual atrocities, as urged by the UN's Committee against Torture.
Yoshihide Suga said on Monday that the suggestions only pertain to Seoul, not Tokyo.
The UN committee had concluded last week that the 2015 agreement should be modified to "ensure
that the surviving victims of sexual slavery during World War II are provided with redress,
including the right to compensation and rehabilitation."
Spearheaded by Korea's former-president Park Geun-hye and Japanese prime minister Shinzo
Abe, the deal includes an apology from Japan and a one-time contribution of eight-point-eight
million dollars towards a fund for the victims.
However, these terms have sparked controversy among the Korean public.
"It appears that the Japanese government has not shown an official acceptance of responsibility
for the past.
Nor has it expressed a proper apology or measures for reparations.
It's also been pointed out by international bodies that their recommendations over the
years have not been followed by Tokyo.
More than anything, the voices of the victims were excluded from the negotiations of the
deal when the restoration of their dignity should be at the core of it."
Various UN committees and human rights experts have expressed the same concern, urging Tokyo
to make an "unequivocal official apology and adequate reparations" such as including the
sex slavery issue in its history textbooks.
They have also shown discomfort at the prospect of removing the 'Statue of Peace' from outside
the Japanese embassy in Seoul,... the statue symbolizes the victims and their lifelong
search for justice.
However, Tokyo has made clear its reluctance to change the deal,... and a survey conducted
last week by a local paper found that 60 percent of the Japanese public believe Korea's request
for a revision should be disregarded.
Only 25 percent said Japan should comply to a renegotiation.

The White House says President Trump is looking forward to speaking with his South Korean
counterpart Moon Jae-in regarding North Korea's recent missile launch.
Spokesman Sean Spicer made the comment during a press briefing on Monday, sidestepping a
question on whether Washington would advise against Seoul reaching out to Pyongyang.
Spicer said he wasn't going to get ahead of that discussion at this point.
Asked whether there was a new sense of urgency for President Trump following the missile
test, the spokesman said the North continues to threaten the United States and its allies,
as well as China and Russia.
He urged Beijing and Moscow to do everything they can in terms of sanctions to help resolve
the situation and bring stability to the Korean Peninsula.
