Serging with a Bias Binder | Serger Technique - Duration: 9:44.

Bias binders are a very unique attachment for sergers.

You can actually take strips of fabric and have it fold the strip for you and you sew

it on with a coverhem stitch.

They come in a couple of different varieties or types, whatever you want to use.

And they come in different sizes.

I have two of them here which are really two of most common sizes that we use and it depends

on the machine and the brand of the machine as how they actually fold the fabric and how

they attach to the machine.

The ones that we're going to use, this one is called a Single Fold Bias Binder and it

puts on a piece of bias that is 28mm.

This one is called a Double Fold Bias Binder and it puts on a 36mm piece of bias.

They are attached to the machine with these two little screws.

Now they look very much the same when you look at them.

How do you tell them apart?

When you turn this up, you can see in the bottom of it, it has a C on the top and it's

straight on the bottom edge.

This means it only folds the top of the bias and the bottom layer of the bias is straight.

This is the one we're going to use in our demonstration.

This one, when you look at it, you can see that it's different underneath.

The bias part is actually a big C. See the difference?

And look at this one in comparison.

So that is how you tell the difference.

Also, each one of them is marked as to the sizeof bias that it is.

That's sometimes a little bit harder to see.

Right here, this one says that it's 28mm and on this one, it says 36mm.

Always look at the size here, don't try to figure out what size it is by looking at the

end of the attachment itself.

We're going to use these to put bias on the straight edge of fabric and we're also going

to do a curve in this segment.

In this part of the lesson, we're going to work with actually applying the bias.

You're going to do a straight edge and you're also going to do a curved edge.

I'm going to point out a few things to watch for when you first start.

It depends on how you want your finished look.

I started this one with one needle on the bias and one needle on the fabric.

As I came down, I adjusted the binder until I ended up with both needles on the bias.

This is a totally personal preference choice right here.

You can do it either way you want.

Over here on the curve, you can see that I hit the curve going all the way around on

the bias.

But, what can happen whenever you're doing the bias binder, it is a little different

technique than doing curves than it is doing straight edges right here.

Look at this one, when I started around the curve, I immediately fell off, and then I

came back on.

That's very common to have happen when you very first use these binders.

But just to show you that it can be done in a curve, I'm on the bias here all the way

around and I will show you that technique.

This one was done with the Single Fold Bias Binder so that when you're finished, this

is what your bias looks like here.

You can see that little flap of extra fabric.

You then take a nice pair of sharp scissors and you trim that excess piece of bias off.

So that's why it's called Single Fold, it does not tuck that bottom edge underneath.

Bias does not unravel, even though it's a woven fabric, so this can be trimmed nice

and close.

I prefer this one for necklines over the Double Fold because I eliminate an extra fold of

fabric underneath.

All machines that have coverhem capabilities will have ways for you to adjust the tension

on both your looper thread and your needle threads.

It will be a dial, just like a tension dial on a sewing machine.

On this side of the machine is where the tension dial is which controls the tension on the

threads that go through the coverhem needles.

You can see that we're using our needles in the front position instead of a back position.

The front position is for coverhem, the back position back here, is for overlock.

This is a clear foot which allows you to see through the foot, to see your coverhem stitches

approaching the needles.

This machine has the capability of sewing the coverhem stitch with three needles.

Right now, we are only going to use two needles.

The little attachment itself fits right on what is called the fabric table, I just call

it a flatbed attachment.

Technically, it's a fabric table or a sewing table.

Over here are some adjustments on the attachment, you can see that if you need to, you can take

these two screws out and adjust these two pieces either closer or farther apart.

There's also two screws right here in the little flatbed table.

Those have threaded screw holders in the end which the screws go down to.

When you put this on, you might think "Oh gee, I'm just going to use one screw."

You really need to use both screws.

If you just put one screw in there and tighten it down, this has a tendency to want to turn

like this.

If you put both screws in there, it makes it so that it doesn't turn.

It won't turn this way, but it will still slide back and forth this direction for adjustment

in front of the foot.

First thing that you need to do, is align the bias binder to line up with the needle

marks on the toe of the presser foot.

This particular company has a needle mark on the toe of the foot for every needle that

goes into the machine.

You have three needles on the coverhem; there's one, two, three, and you have two needles

on the back for the overlocks.

The coverhem needles we have on the machine right now are number 2 and number 3.

There is no needle in the number 1 position.

So the front of the binder, right here is where the binding is going to go through,

you'll have to line it up as close as what you can.

Remember, you need to make a practice sample.

Don't expect it to be absolutely correct the first time you do it.

That's why these screws are here, so you can loosen them and fine tune the position where

that binder is.

So we're going to set it up, to what I think is fairly close.

Tighten these screws down to hold the binder in position.

The next step we're going to do is actually get the binding into the attachment and get

the fabric into the binder.

When you first load your bias in there, take into consideration the width of your bias.

The instructions that come with the bias binder will suggest to you the right width to cut

your bias piece.

It literally has to fit right here, into this little tunnel.

It needs to be exactly that size.

Now, it says 1 1/8" for this type of fabric.

But if you're going to use a heavier fabric or a thinner fabric or a stretchy fabric,

you may have to vary that width a little larger or a little smaller.

Always make a sample.

Don't assume that every fabric is going react the same.

I like to cut a little wedge like this, like an arrow on the front of the bias, because

when we poke it in here, we have to feed it through this curled action part of the binder.

And it goes through much easier if you don't have the sharp corners out here, (the angled

corners) we need them like this.

So put your bias in there, just feed it right in and see it fits right in that little slot.

And see right here?

I call it a little pusher slider.

You can take your tweezers or a straight pin, or anything.

You see I'm just working it through.

You can see it down coming out down here, curling here?

There it comes.

See it coming out underneath?

Once you get it coming out, then you lift up the toe of the foot and I take my tweezers

and I pull the bias underneath the foot.

Now, look straight down there at the foot and you'll see that this clear foot will show

you exactly where your bias is going.

You kind of line it up at this point.

I can see where my needles are going to hit it, and I'm pretty close.

As we start to sew, we still need to adjust this position over here by loosening the screws

and moving the binder.

To begin, there is a special way you put your fabric in.

You have to be sure that the edge of your fabric rubs right there, against the edge

of that little piece of the binder.

You put it in, you're presser foot's up and push the fabric all the way back to the needles

and I'm inside the binding.

See how I'm nice and smooth right here?

I'm inside the binding.

Then you lower the foot down, bring your needles down to see where they're going into the binding

and I look pretty good right there.

But you still may need to loosen these screws after you do your practice sample and move

it one way or the other.

Now look closely down there.

See this needle and this thread?

See how it's not quite on the fabric?

This is where you loosen these screws and make sure your needles are up, you can't adjust

this with the needles in the fabric, and just slightly move that over.

Ever so slightly.

Tighten this back down and we'll continue to sew.

Now remember, I moved it up here, so it's going to take it just about that length right

there before it gets into the place where we moved it.

Give it a little chance to get over there before you stop.

There it's starting to creep over a little bit.

Now it's getting on it.

You see the difference?

Now the needle is on it.

As you're sewing through it, make sure you keep your fabric up there and see the curl?

The curl on the bias is curling it right through the little bias binder.

As it feeds through, see how beautiful it comes out in the back?

All your stitches are beautiful and nice and even.

Just go right on through and right out the back.

OUTRE SWISS X RISA DARK RED WINE LACE FRONT WIG REVIEW - UNDER $30- | DIVATRESS.COM | KOSMIC KRISTEN - Duration: 12:05.

Hey, everyone, it's Kristen and today we are going to be doing another

wig review I am doing a three wig collaboration with

Divatress.com and today's wig is the Outre Swiss X lace

front wig and the name of it is Risa

and this is in the color DR425 and it is a reddish dark burgundy color

and we are going to be trying her out today this is what the wig looks like here on the

card and this actually is the color that we will

be trying out today opening up the wig here

we have the package and the cardboard which are always good to keep for storing

the wigs just for future reference

here you can see there is a net on it it actually came with a black net

but I replace it with white so you can see it better

and we are going to be taking that off now and show you the wig itself

and here is what the wig looks like it's a nice dark burgundy red color

sort of a wine color and up top here you can see that it starts

out black and slowly fades into the red and then consistently

is red all the way down the only ombre is at the top

where you can see a little bit of fade this is a lace front wig and originally came

with lace on the front here that we had to remove and cut off

and what's interesting about this wig is that it is a swiss X lace

and there is lace all in the front from ear to ear

and you can do any kind of part that you like a lot of lace fronts have either like you

can part down the middle or one side but not anyway that you like

so this has a lot of versatility you can do a left part

a right part a middle part

kind of an off sort of part and you can also do a lot more with the front

here like styling so a lot of options with this

particular wig this wig also does come in different colors

if you are not a fan of the red but like the style and the cut of this

here inside you can see the mesh in the back it also has one clip in the back

and two clips to put on either side to help stay it also is sort of a stretchy

material and does have adjustable straps if your head

is larger or smaller and here you can see up front this is where

you can put the part and you can do it in any which way and it

will still look like a natural part whereas a lot of other wigs you can kind of

see the wefts it's sewn into each individual hole of the

lace which is what gives it such versatility and you are able to do whatever you want to

with the front of this so I really like this about it and I think

that more wigs should be like this so you can have a lot more versatility

and I think it helps with the believability as well

because if you were to move your hair , you would never see the wefts

so I really like that about this wig so I'm going to go ahead and so you the front

of this and what I'm talking about with the lace

here is an up close look at the front you can kind of see the lace here

I'm going to show you without finger being there

and then with my finger there you can see the difference

I'm gonna go ahead and put her on and then we will talk more about the wig in a moment

ok, so this is the wig what it looks like

and show you a side view and from the back to see how long it is

as you can see it's pretty straight but then it comes in and sort of curls under

at the ends here in layers all the way up here

and because I believe there's a 4 by 4 section actually where you can do the part

I don't think you can part it from the way back here

but you can do any kind of part as you see I can take this and put it over

here and do that sort of a thing

but I actually like it down the middle the best

and also you can see that I left out my baby hair from my actual hair

and I think that, that helps it look a little more believable

so if you have dark hair aswell you can do that if you have baby hair

I think it gives it a natural hair line and just makes it look more believable

as for this wig I absolutely love the color it is so beautiful

it is very similar to the other wig that I reviewed

which I also got from Divatress This is Sherise

it's got a lot of swooping curls here and is actually the same exact color

as far as the coloring goes it is the same it starts out black and then sort of in this

area here it kind of blends together and then the rest

of it is this kind of wine red color if you were looking for one that is similar

that's in a curly texture that would be the one I would reccomend

this Risa wig is heat safe up to 400 degress but if you were going to curl it alot or do

anyhing like that I would suggest just getting one that is already curled

because its easier to maintain but if you like this sleek sort of look with

the curling underneath here then I would really reccomend this one

you could also go ahead and just straighten it straight if you didn't like that it curls

inward I may try that one day just to see how it

looks but I actually like that is has the curling

under at the bottom it gives it a different look then just striaght

I actually thought this was a little bit longer of a wig when I was looking at it

but I actually do like the length of it I think it is a normal long length but not

too long so here again you can see it starts black

this is my actual hair right in here I should probably move that up

and then in this area it gets kind of ombre and then goes to red

so very pretty I really love this color it's a color that I have alwasy wanted to

be and I tried to dye it this color before when

I was younger and it just really never came out this color

and then when it did it didn't like to stay because reds are really

hard to keep in your hair so I think this is wigs are so great

you can change up your style you can get the color you exactly want

and you know it's going to stay that color because it's a wig you aren't going to be

washing it very much it's just going to be what it is and you can

also find the style that you want

and know that, that's what you are going to get

I also love a lot of different types of hair curly , really curly, really straight , reds,

blacks all this kind of stuff so it's good for me

so that Ican change up my style and actually keep my actual hair intact

and not have to dye it or bleach it or all that kind of stuff

also if you were running late if you are having a bad hair day

you can just pop on a wig and it's already done for you

and you look great so I really like wigs

and after this experience with these wigs I am going to be buying a lot more from Divatress

because all of the ones I have got in this three part collaberation have been incredible

so some of you are probably wonering how much is the wig

and this wig was orginially $49.95 and now as of the time of making this video

it $27.95 so for under $30 you can get this really really

really nice lace front wig that is a beautiful color

is really believable , I think I think it looks like my real hair

like if I didn't tell anyone I think they would think it is my real hair

and that's what I love about these wigs because like if you weren't, like if someone else

was wearing this wig I wouldn't know it's a wig

the texture is silky and soft and it looks like real hair

it's not as soft as real hair I will say that but like for a wig tho

like it feels and looks like real hair another thing I don't feel like it looks any

thinner in the back because I know a lot of wigs that I've tried

in the past will look fine from the front but then when you look at it in the back it'll

look really thin and then you will kind of know it's a wig

but I don't have this problem with this wig I feel for the quality of this wig at the

price this is an amazing deal and I really really really love this wig

there's not really much that I can say bad about this wig

the only thing is that you are probably going to have to take either a straighter or a curling

iron to redo the bottom of them eventually just because of gravity

but I mean you are going to have to maintain the style of any wig that you get

it's not just this one and again you could straighten it out all

the way and just have it super straight but it shouldn't, every couole times you wear

it you will probably need to like just kind of do a little bottoms again

but other than that like I can't really find anything bad to say about this wig

I don't see any shedding at the moment I mean it may happen

wigs do shed I believe it looks pretty believable as it

sits I didn't do anything to it to make it any

more believable except for having my baby hairs out

there are things that you can do to make it a little bit more believable

you can pluck the part if you feel like it's too close together

but it does say on this little thing here that it is pre plucked

so I think actually for me it looks pretty believable as it is

you could also add a little bit of concealer that you would normally wear

to the part if you feel like it doesn't stand out as much as it should

as for the cap I didn't really have to do any adjusting I just used the little clips

the two on the front and one on the back again it does have adjustable straps

but I didn't need to adjust any of it it's kind of a stretchy cap

not too much but it kinda like comforms to your head

like kind elastics to your head again I got this from Divatress.com

and I really love their website because it has like 1000 options to choose from

every wig comes in like atleast five different colors so I mean there's like a bunch of wigs

on there in a bunch of different colors to choose from

and right now as this video is coming out they are doing

free shipping for anything over $49 and I believe regular shipping is $7.95 if

I remember correctly and so that's not too bad

it's not like you are paying a bunch in shipping to get the wig for cheaper

my one tip would be to get a wig brush becasue I think that this keeps them a lot

nicer for a lot longer I got this one I believe at Sally Beauty Supply

a long time ago when I bought some hair extensions I feel like it really helps to glide through

the wig and not pull or pinch them and I think that keeps them looking a lot

nicer for a lot longer and I don't really see much tangling but throughout

the day if you are wearing it all day you will probably want to keep the brush with

you and just keep it nice and sleek looking overall I really just love this wig

I think it is one of the nicest wigs that I have ever tried or owned

so I think this wig is great I think it will look great on a lot of different

people so I would like to say Thank you again to

Divatress.com for collaberating with me on these three wig reviews

if you would like to see the other wig review for the Sherise wig that I showed you earlier

than see the video up top I will be doing one more review for a wig

from Divatress coming up very soon so if you guys are interested in seeing that

than be sure to subscribe so that you will be the first ones to know about when it comes

out if you would like to see future wig and beauty

beauty reviews from me than please also subscribe to for those videos

thank you guys so so much for watching and I hope to see you guys in the next review

The Republican Takeover Of America Is Almost Complete – The Court System Is Next - Duration: 4:08.

As it stands right now the Republican party controls the House of Representatives and

the Senate, so they've got the legislative branch.

They control the White House so they've got the executive branch, and they now, thanks

to Neil Gorsuch, have a majority once again on the US Supreme Court so they control the

highest court in the judiciary, but there's still one area where they don't have total

and complete control.

That is the lower court system.

You know that court system that Americans roll their eyes, and sigh, and oh I don't

understand to much about it, I don't want to talk about it?

The thing that really should've been a major campaign issue in the United States considering

the fact that President Obama left office with about 100 judicial vacancies in the United

States, that he could have and should have appointed.

Well guess what.

Today Donald Trump is announcing his names of the people that he wants to start filling

those 100 seats in courts all throughout this country.

Now keep in mind, let me explain why these lower courts are so important.

The majority of court cases in the United States do not go to the Supreme Court.

Yeah they get to hear the big ones, they get to make some real big decisions, but when

you add up the decisions that come from these lower courts, and the impact they have on

federal and state laws throughout this country they are more influential than that one Supreme

Court, because of the number of cases they hear and the complexity of the cases they

hear.

Again, most Americans do not pay attention to this.

The Democratic party has never made this a campaign issue, Republicans have because they

understand you don't have to have that Supreme Court.

They know that one court, those nine people can't hear every case so you can remake laws

in this country at the lower level, people will never notice and they'll move on with

their lives.

Today Donald Trump is giving us those names, and we know that two of them use to be clerks

for Antonin Scalia.

You've got two little Scalia's out there about to be appointed to federal courts.

You have another guy, John Bush who actually defended Ronald Reagan in the Iran-Contra

Scandal.

A good little loyal Republican who kept the sitting president probably from going to prison.

Those are the kinds of people Donald Trump is looking at to fill these judicial vacancies

all over the country.

You know who's excited about this?

Conservative think tanks like the Federalist Society and the Heritage Foundation.

According to a article in the Daily Caller these groups are ecstatic about these judicial

appointees, because they know that once we get these people installed in these close

to 100 seats all throughout the country, that Democrats are completely ignoring, we're going

to start remaking laws in this country.

We're going to start taking away the rights of women, the rights of minorities.

We're going to uphold those restrictive voter idea laws, and there's nothing the liberals

can do about it.

That's why the folks at the Daily Caller, and that's why the people at the Heritage

Foundation, and the Federalist Society are so excited about this, because unfortunately

they actually pay attention to this kind of stuff.

Democrats have ignored it.

Democrats roll their eyes.

Democrats don't seem to understand that there's more than one court in this country.

Yeah, we lost the seat to Neil Gorsuch, that's sucks.

We're about to lose 100 more to a bunch of miniature Scalia's, Republican loyalist, corporate

hacks all because the Democrats didn't pay attention, and because Barrack Obama never

got around to appointing people to go sit on those benches.

REACTION AUX ANCIENNES PHOTO DE CARLA! - Duration: 6:45.

Come on! Don't be shy. Come on, it's for you! I don't want to make this video!

I am here against my will! My will !!! Hello... Hahaha baby let me do the presentation,

don't worry! This will pass, I promise it will get better

Hi Youtube! Today, I've decided to give you a gift. Seriously, after

this video, you are going to love me! There are some moments in life where you do not know exactly

what you do, you're pretty depressed and then, something comes up and

makes your life all better! This happened to me some time ago when

Carla finally confessed that she had another Facebook account. Ho no, they all are going to look it up...

She had it when she was 15,16,17 years old? Honestly, I found little treasures

and I thought "I have to share them!" I have to share them to the world.

We'll start with just the very first picture she posted on Facebook. Do you

remember? No. Ok this is this one! Look how cute you are ! Why are you laughing? It's

correct! Everything is like.... the lighting, the hair in the wind and everything and

it was still Straight Carla! You breathe heterosexuality! I know,

I would make a very nice straight girl.. You would have made a superb hetero. I will show you

a picture that I love from when she was a child. Isn't she cute?. Look,

little Carla with the small hole between her two front teeth! Awwwwww.

By looking at these pictures, I admit that I received signs that were a little bit confused,

like now after seeing the pictures, I'm not so sure Carla is a lesbian.

I have really confused signs. like this! This photo is boobies, boobies, boobies!

I don't have those breasts! We've been together for a year and an half, where are they?

Where did they go? Look Bim! This is what I want! The first time I

found this photo, I put it in my phone's screen. Just a picture

in her big boobs! It's like this photo ... all heteros have done that! The

kind photo like I'm cool! kind of emo vibe. I look at that and I

wonder "Are you really a lesbian?" the last two pictures ... Well I

have a past ! You have to accept my past! of straight girl? Yes. So

there is clearly some heterosexual vibes! But then, the next picture: Lesbian!

what is happening? We don't know. are you lost? Are you actually bisexual? did

you get lost? You can tell me, you know! Bisexual! Lost! hahaha even

she says it! Are you a lesbian? Are you straight? Are you a cowboy?

We don't know! We don't know! My life is full of surprises! But I don't understand. I am

hot as a cowboy! Yes... it was Halloween, I'm not a cowboy.

I'll show you a picture that made me very very laugh. I can immediately say

it was the lesbian period, the The L Word and Shane phase!

I really have to show you this! It's the lesbian cliché by excellence! Everything

is there! The hairstyle... i'm sure same as shane! The shirt.

Look! In the bar, all like ... you do the lesbian sign! Yes Yes.

Admit it you thought you were cool! Confess! I was cool! Did you pick lots of girls? No.

I also need to show you the photo that would make the 16 years old me ... if I had seen this

picture at 16 years old, I would have completely fallen in love! Completely! I will

show you! that one! I think you are soon beautiful in this picture! Why? I look

frightened. But no! You look cool, you have the little white tshirt, you play

music, your hair are perfect! I don't know, I think you're so cute on

this one. I think you're cool, I find you really cool. Me at 16 years old, I would have seen it

I would have been like whouuaaaa what's her Facebook? No, I think you're beautiful. You

would have been 14 years old! I wouldn't have been interested. You have not seen me in 14 years old!

Bitch! You were in a good phase at 14 years old? I'm not sure ... I just told you

this for a good comeback but no, I think I was a little

ugly at 14 years old. I'm not sure that you would have looked at me! Especially

since I think I would have found you really cool and I would not have acted cool

at all. Not as I am now, how I got you by being cool.

I also promised you I would show you a photo of Carla with short hair

because there was a time where her hair was very very

short so basically for fun we'll just do it gradually! So here, the

picture "shane" ! there is another one where she also have her hair

short but that's ok but ... but it gets better ... You're beautiful !!!! Your

are soo beautiful! How old are you? You look like a baby, well I was in the beginning of my

twenties... It's one the best! I know! black and white and all. Trying to bite

your lips and all, I don't know if you see that but it's like ... Hmm I'm

cool! Are you ashamed? no, you right! I accept myself. It is very good! I accept

every part of me because all I experienced makes me the one

I am today. Yes! you want me to show you again a picture from your straight phase? No. OK

thank you very much for watching this video, I hope you enjoyed it and I

know that you enjoyed it. Come on! go and tell me what's your favorite photo. Don't forget

to follow us on our social networks and we will see you next week! Byyyye

Single Downturn Feller | Serger Technique - Duration: 6:03.

These accessories are what they refer to as Single Downturn Fellers.

They are available in three different sizes and what they do is turn the hem on your sleeves,

on your neckline, and on the bottom of your garment.

The first one is a 1/4".

It will turn just a 1/4" of fabric for your hem and it will finish it on the back and

it also stitches on the front.

The second one is 5/8" of fabric and it will turn 5/8" of fabric and stitch it with the

hem, with the same setting on the machine.

This one is a 1" downturn feller and it turns 1" of fabric and it will stitch it again,

the same type of hem out here.

Now the hem width here can vary from where you adjust the hemmer while it's on the machine.

These are called Single Downturn Fellers and they're the actual accessory that will turn

the fabric for you so that it holds it in place so you can stitch the hem.

It keeps you the same distance from the edge, all the way around.

All three of the feller accessories are totally adjustable.

Sometimes you have to adjust where the bracket screws onto the machine, to allow for the

little screw that attaches it, to have room to be able to screw down into the slot.

If you look closely, you'll see that there are little screw holes here.

This is the way that it comes to you, with the two screws like this.

I find that it works better if I move this screw down so that this part where it attaches,

is a little farther ahead.

See how I've taken the screws out and readjusted them?

You can also put this screw in that empty hole right there.

But see I've got more room from here, up here and that makes a difference when you put the

screws on like this.

So don't be afraid to take these screws out and adjust this bracket in here.

That's why they're there.

This one is the 1" downturn feller.

So it's going to roll our fabric 1".

You slide it in the top, just like that and you roll it around underneath, and when you

turn it over you'll see that it is turned exactly 1" in the back.

So when you put it on the machine, you adjust it on the machine using the screws in the

little slider right here, as to how far or how deep you want the needle to sew into the

hem.

You can adjust this so that it is deeper or not quite as deep, and the two needles will

sew here and it turns the hem for you, and you're done!

It's consistent.

To attach the feller, you will need the 2 little white screws and remember that this

is adjustable, you'll have to play with it.

My preference is that I like to put the screw holes as close up as I can to this little

thread slot groove.

Tighten this one down, not real tight just go down a little bit and then tighten the

next one a little bit.

Get it pushed over as far you want it, remember, this is adjustable in this area.

So you can set this up however you want it to sew.

I'm going to tighten this one down and then tighten this one down.

To load it, always make a practice sample.

When you load it, you just push your fabric in and just walk it right around in that curve,

underneath.

Some people like to press it, some people like to baste it, I just roll it around in

there.

Roll it and then I can come up here and peak to see if it rolled underneath.

See it in there?

Push it all the way up underneath your needles.

You will be doing this in what we call in the round, which means you would have the

bottom of your t-shirt (you wouldn't have an open end like this), so when we get to

the end, I'll talk about how you would end it.

Just fold your fabric underneath, see I'm folding it underneath and you can do it just

by hand like that.

As you start to sew, the best part about this, besides folding the fabric for you, is it

will hold it into position so that the needle will sew the same distance from the edge all

the way around.

As you go around, you eventually will come back to the beginning where you stitched and

your stitches will come up and stop right here at the attachment.

There's no way that sewn closed area can pass through this attachment.

However, when you get to that point, as you're going all the way around, you can see OK,

you'll need to get rid of the attachment.

You'll be stopped back here with your needles, but will still have a spot here where it's

not sewn closed.

So you'll take out these screws and remove the attachment.

At that point, I like to have needles down in my fabric so that I don't accidentally

pull my hemline out of alignment.

Just undo these screws and take the attachment off and then you just sew from here to match

up the stitches down here on this end and you're finished.

Then you go back if you don't know how to get the fabric out of the machine, we did

a video called Sewing the Coverhem in a circle and it tells you how to get it off.

Just go all the way through and off of the end.

Remember, I get out by rotating my handwheel backwards, and pull out my stitches.

When you're finished, on the front, everything will be nice and straight and even.

On the back, you'll have the excess that you need to trim away.

When you're finished, you turn it over to the back and you can see the little excess

seam allowance that is turned there.

I prefer to use the 1"and get the excess seam allowance because it pretty much guarantees

that you're going to catch the hem all the way.

If you use the smaller one, you have to be a little more accurate to make sure you catch

the hem.

So once it is turned, you just take a nice little pair of embroidery scissors and trim

off that excess flap right there.

When you trim that away and that seam allowance is gone, you have a nice, neat little finish

and it's caught, all the way around.

Hiding a thread tail in the middle of a seam | Serger Technique - Duration: 4:01.

In this segment, we're going to show you how to deal with hiding a tail in the middle of

a seam.

There are times whenever you sew a seam, that you have to stop in the middle and get off,

and come back and continue the seam on down end.

But you don't want to have this tail sticking out there.

So we're going to show you how to hide it and when you're done hiding it, it should

look like this on the other side and you shouldn't be able to tell where you began and ended,

hiding the tail.

So I've already gone down partway and I've already concealed the first beginning seam

back here.

But now I'm on my way down to the center and I want to come off the fabric and then come

back on.

So to get off, that's the easy part.

Just go down partway like this, and the reason you would have to do this, is sometimes you

may have to stop serging and go to the iron to press something, or to come down here and

turn something, but there are many times you may have to come off and on in the center

of a seam.

It's easy to get off, just turn your fabric to the side and jump right off.

It doesn't matter what it looks like right here where you came off.

See how my stitches are half hanging off here and it's even cut right here?

It doesn't matter, just cut your tail and at this point, you would go to the iron or

whatever it was you needed to do, for the reason for coming off.

The trick is getting back on, not getting off.

To get back on, the first thing that you want to do is decide where you're going to get

back on.

You don't want to come back on way down here, close to where you came off, because you cannot

backstitch with a serger.

So you need to overlap the stitches in a nice, straight, clean area.

So the first thing I like to do is smooth out the tail chain and get it ready.

This is the one we have to conceal.

Not this one.

This one is going to be trimmed away as we go, but this one will be the one that is left

hanging on the edge of the fabric.

So the same thing that we did with the other technique, raise the presser foot, smooth

out the tail chain and bring it around to the front.

Slide your fabric back up underneath, in that straight area.

The key is to those needle points back down into the same stitching lines.

To do that, you'll probably need to pull a little bit of that needle slack again.

When you do that, you see how you can move the fabric clear over there?

Look inside, lower the needles right back down into those two stitching lines.

Bring this little tail chain that's left over, bring it right over here towards the knife

(don't forget to lower your presser foot), as you start to sew, this tail chain will

get cut off and the rest of it will be hidden and concealed.

Go all the way to the end and do the same thing that we did with the previous sample.

Walk off one stitch, don't go 3 or 4.

1 stitch, then lift your presser foot, again, that little bit of slack in that needle thread

will allow you to pull the fabric off the stitching mechanism.

As we spin it around, you can see that the tail chain is concealed at that point.

Flip it over, lift up the foot a little bit, put it back in there.

You need to look exactly where you're sewing, just like a sewing machine, you don't just

guess, you need to be more exact.

Lower your needles, lower the knife blade down so you don't cut off these stitches,

lower the presser foot, sew down about 1/2" or so, stop, lift up the presser foot, turn

the fabric to the back, (leave the presser foot up) and just sew off of the edge.

And at this point, we can trim this one close because it's been concealed.

You have no tail chain at the end, no tail chain at the middle, no tail chain at the

beginning and when you open up your fabric, you can't tell where you did all of the on

and off, back on again.

House healthcare bill faces upheaval in Senate - Duration: 7:25.

House healthcare bill faces upheaval in Senate

BY ALEXANDER BOLTON

The House Republican bill repealing and replacing ObamaCare faces high procedural hurdles in

the Senate that will likely force GOP negotiators to throw out key portions of the legislation.

Republicans are using special budget rules to prevent Democrats from filibustering the

legislation. But the Senate has long warned the House that the rules could prohibit certain

things in the bill from being included.

GOP senators have already flagged two problems: language allowing states to opt out of regulations

defining what healthcare services insurers must cover, and a provision banning them from

discriminating against people based on their health.

Another part of the House bill that allows health plans to charge older policyholders

five times what they charge young adults a shift from the 3-to-1 ratio mandated by ObamaCare

 could also be a problem.

Language that allows insurers to place a 30 percent surcharge on people who let their

coverage lapse also poses procedural problems. The House bill also makes reforms to Medicaid,

such as allowing states to impose work requirements, and caps federal payments to states. Both

provisions could run afoul of Senate rules.

Senate Republican Whip John Cornyn (Texas) said this week the House bill "will be modified

here if for no other reason than the rules, the reconciliation rules, would require it."

Cornyn said he doesnt yet know whether the House-proposed changes to insurance regulations

the centerpiece of the compromise between members of the conservative House Freedom

Caucus and moderate Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-N.J.) will survive procedural challenges.

Thats a good question that I dont know the answer to, he said. That just

shows that the House doesnt operate under the same constraints we do and so well

have to work that out.

The Senate rules are a problem for Republicans because they need to pass the bill repealing

and replacing ObamaCare through a special budgetary process known as reconciliation.

The upside of this strategy is that it will allow them to pass it with a simple majority

vote, instead of having to overcome the usual 60-vote threshold to get around a filibuster.

Republicans control only 52 seats, and there are not close to eight Democrats willing to

vote for the GOP healthcare plan. That means using reconciliation is really the only option

for getting a bill out of the Senate.

The drawback is that any legislation advanced on this track must pass a multi-part test

known as the Byrd Rule, which requires that all provisions either change spending outlays

or revenues in other words, have an impact on the budget.

And the rule states that the budgetary impact cannot be merely incidental to the nonbudgetary

components of the provision.

The Senate parliamentarian, Elizabeth MacDonough, who was appointed to the post by former Senate

Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) in 2012, will decide what does and does not pass the

Byrd Rule.

So far, she has stayed out of the partisan fray in the Senate not drawing any public

complaints from either side of the aisle.

Earlier this year, conservative Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Rand Paul (R-Ky.) suggested

that Vice President Pence, who serves as the ex officio president of the Senate, ignore

the advice of the parliamentarian if it is detrimental to passing the GOP healthcare

bill.

But that idea has gained little traction with other Republicans.

Theres also doubt over whether the Senate parliamentarian will approve $138 billion

in funding to set up high-risk pools for older, sicker Americans in states that opt out of

ObamaCares insurance requirements. Theres partisan disagreement on this point, with

Republicans saying its OK and Democrats saying its not.

Language scrapping the mandate on employers to provide health insurance if they have at

least 50 workers and to count employees who work 30 hours a week as eligible for coverage

could also face procedural objections.

On this point, Republicans note that the parliamentarian has ruled on the reconciliation bill that

passed in 2015 that lawmakers could eliminate the penalty for not complying with the employer

mandate, rendering it toothless.

The provisions allowing states to opt out of ObamaCares regulatory requirements specifically

the waivers related to pre-existing conditions and defined essential health benefits have

popped out as the most problematic under the Byrd Rule, according to Republican and Democratic

experts.

That one could be challenged. Heres the reason: I dont know that the [Congressional

Budget Office] can say what a state would do, said Bill Hoagland, an expert on the

Senates reconciliation rules, who worked for former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist

(R-Tenn.) and served as Republican staff director of the Senate Budget Committee.

Theyre going to be hard-pressed to say whether states will take the opt out, he

added.

Hoagland explained that because its hard for the Congressional Budget Office to predict

how states would react to the language, its very difficult to predict what the budgetary

impact of the language would be. If it doesnt score as saving or losing money, then it doesnt

have a more-than-incidental budgetary impact.

If it has no score, then technically it would violate the Byrd Rule, he said.

Hoagland, however, said he did not think the $138 billion in funding for high-risk pools

or the scrapping of the employer mandate would be a problem noting it would have a significant

budgetary impact.

Former Sen. Kent Conrad (N.D.), the former Democratic chairman of the Budget Committee,

disagrees. He said the insurance regulatory reforms, the set up of high-risk pools and

the elimination of the employer-provided insurance rule are ripe for challenge before the

parliamentarian.

Youre not just raising revenue, cutting revenue, cutting spending or raising spending,

youre obviously doing something that has a heavy policy component, he said.

It would seem to me thats ripe for Byrd Rule challenge. What the parliamentarian would

decide, I dont know, he said. It has such a heavy policy component.

Sarah Binder, an expert in congressional procedure and professor of political science at George

Washington University, highlighted the provisions allowing states to opt out of regulations

for essential health benefits and pre-existing conditions and letting insurance companies

charge a 30-percent penalty for lapsed coverage.

She said the insurance regulations seem to have merely incidental consequences

for revenue and outlays and predicted a challenge as well on the provision mandating

the 30 percent surcharge paid to the insurance company for lapsed coverage.

Hiding thread tails on a Serger - Duration: 5:10.

Sergers have many different presser feet for us to use for different applications.

On this machine, we have several feet which we can consider being just the basic foot.

I want to talk about them a little bit before we begin.

This is the standard foot which comes with this machine.

As we use these sergers we find quite often we need different feet for different techniques.

This foot is a clear foot, which is great because it allows you to see through the foot

to see exactly what the stitches are doing and how the machine is sewing.

I like the clear feet and use them a lot.

This clear foot has lines in it, in the toe of the foot and it will show you exactly how

to line up the stitches as you're sewing.

This one is also a clear foot, but it doesn't have the lines in it.

I actually prefer this one.

The newest foot is called the open toe foot.

The great thing about the open toe foot is that there are red marks on all the lines

that line up with each needle.

If you look closely, you can see each line lines up with a needle in the machine.,

Our object lesson today is going to be how to deal with the leftover tails at the beginning

and the end of a seam.

Sergers do not backstitch, so we do not have a way to lock the stitches in.

So we have to deal with tails.

Now, most of the time, you don't have to worry about the tail because as you sew across the

fabric, as you stitch across this way, the serger will trim off that tail and it will

seal that seam at the same time.

But occasionally, you have to know how to get that tail tucked up underneath, and that's

what we're going to do.

We're going to show you how to bring the tail up underneath using the machine to do it instead

of using an extra accessory.

Sometimes you may even have a tail that's in the center of the seam, like this one is.

What caused this to happen was I had to begin and end in the middle of a seam.

I'm also going to show you the trick of how to come back in here after you've serged off

and overlap the seam.

So this is actually two seams which are joined together in the center.

When you do this technique, you end up with this excess piece of tail and there's nothing

to do with it.

You don't want to just nip it off and cut it off there, because it could come unraveled.

Our total object at the end is to have all the tails concealed and underneath.

This one is tucked inside when we began, this one is tucked inside when we ended, and this

one is overlapped in the middle with the tail hidden inside.

When you're finished, you should be able to open up your seam allowance and not tell where

you did all the hiding of the tails.

To begin your seam, you want to start in front of the presser foot and I always like to start

directly in the knife when I can, I just slide it right up like that.

You want to stitch until you see that the needles have caught into the edge of the fabric.

Just sew up there, right there, I am now in the fabric.

You can go two or three stitches in and you're still OK.

But in order to make a nice, neat beginning, lift up the presser foot, come around to the

back and smooth that tail chain out all the way to the edge of the fabric.

Don't be afraid to give it a tug.

Give it a little tug like that, smooth it all out, and I like to put my needles down,

into the fabric, then bring the thread completely around, under the presser foot and around

the needles.

If you look in there, you can see that the thread tail is right there.

Keep your presser foot down, stitch right over the top of the tail and bring it into

the knife and let the knife cut it off.

Then you stitch all the way to the end of the seam.

When you get to the end down here, you want to sew off just at the edge.

Don't keep going, because if you keep sewing beyond the edge you'll create a tail chain

and you can't get rid of it.

So go right off to the edge, like that.

Now we need to bring the fabric around by flipping it over and sliding it back underneath.

You can't just turn it like this or it will hang up on the little stitching prongs underneath

the machine.

So you reach up here above with the presser foot up and you pull a little bit of slack

in that needle thread.

Then you slide the fabric off of those stitch prongs.

See how it's free back there now?

Then flip it over, completely over and put it right back up underneath the needles.

Bring the needles right down here at the edge of the fabric and align them up.

Lower the presser foot, stitch down about 1/4" or 1/2", anywhere that you are comfortable,

then stop.

Now to get off gracefully, instead of just sewing off of the edge and ending up with

these half stitches hanging off like that, stop, lift up the presser foot, turn the fabric

all the way to the back, leave the foot up and just run the machine and jump right off

of the edge.

And there's the finished end.

how to be a girl - spoken word - Duration: 2:51.

When I was born, you shouted "it's a girl!" and wrapped me in a pink blanket

My life would be saturated with pink onesies, barbie dolls, and frilly socks for years to

come You told me "Don't get dirty" "Don't

play too rough" and I wondered why the rules were different for me than for the boys in

my kindergarten class.

I guess that's just part of being a girl But none of the boys wanted to play with a

girl who was too prissy to get grass stains on her jeans so I didn't listen to you and

I became a 'tomboy' instead

That worked out fine until junior high when I developed a crush on one of the boys in

my class I quickly learned that no one wanted to date

a tomboy with grass stains on her jeans No, they wanted to date the prissy girls who

wore pink and too much makeup that they had condemned just years before

I guess I should have listened when you told me how to be a girl

And on the subject of dating, you told me I shouldn't date other girls

Because it's unnatural and it's wrong Only sinners did that and I was too pretty

and too smart to not be heterosexual More importantly, I was going to Heaven because

of my faith in God and my heterosexuality, apparently.

By the time I got to high school, I began to resent being a girl because it seemed like

I had missed some vital step to becoming one of those makeup-clad wearers of pink

So I just gave up trying I threw out all of my pink clothes and stopped

listening to Taylor Swift In my teenage years, I became the cool girl

who listened to classic rock and drove a 4wd truck

And the boys still didn't want to date me, but they respected me

So I embraced this new way to be a girl

Now that I'm in my 20's, I can see where you and I both went wrong

You were teaching me how to be a girl who pleased other people

You dressed me in pink so that everyone would be sure of my gender

You told me not to play too rough so that I would be seen as your cute, well-behaved

princess and the rules were different for the boys because, you know, boys will be boys

You told me boys wanted to play with the girls who didn't mind getting dirty but then you

told me to wear makeup and short skirts because boys didn't want to date a girl who had

grass stains on her jeans You told me not to date girls so that I would

be accepted by society's heteronormative standards, and you even threatened me with

an eternity of burning in hell to make sure I followed that one

You told me how to be a girl but you never once asked me what my favorite color was….or

if I liked dresses or what kind of games I wanted to play on the playground

You assumed I would fit a mold and then condemned me for years when I didn't

So instead of teaching girls how to be girls, maybe you should teach girls how to be themselves

If you do that, maybe the next generation of girls won't look back at the first two

decades of their lives to try and figure out why it took them so long to find themselves

Maybe if we can learn to be who we are and love who we love from the start

There won't be a new generation of young adults trying to unlearn years of social conditioning

But yesterday when I was out, I saw a baby in a pink onesie and a bow in her hair

So I guess you're still teaching girls how to be girls

YouGov Affluent Perspective 2017: The Mood of the Global Affluent - Duration: 1:59.

I'm Cara David, here with the Affluent Perspective

on how confident the affluent are feeling these days.

When it comes to what they can't control - their own

country's economy - their confidence is somewhat mixed,

and more cautious than optimistic in most regions.

Many affluent consumers from established economies

are pessimistic about the future, most notably South Korea

at just 7% confidence.

When it comes to what they can control - their own personal economies -

affluent consumers are more confident in their own ability to

navigate difficult times.

Confidence is strong in spots all over the world,

as every region is represented in the top 5 markets.

Personal confidence is very low in South Korea,

possibly due to an uncertain economic future outside their own doorsteps.

Japan continues to be in the doldrums, with concerns among

the young and old about their economic futures.

Worldwide, it's fair to say affluent consumers feel happy,

successful, and very fulfilled with life.

So let's get down to it.

How enthusiastic are the global affluent about

spending on luxury this year?

If you're an affluent person from the Middle East,

or the Asia Pacific - chances are you're pretty enthusiastic.

If you're from Western Europe or North America,

your interest in luxury is lukewarm -

suggesting another highly competitive year in these regions

for luxury marketers, as consumers carefully consider

their spending at the high-end.

And that's the Affluent Perspective.
