Christie Brinkley can't find a man?! * And 12 more true weird news stories! #DDWN - Duration: 5:27.

From DailyDoseOfWeirdNews.com, I'm Darren Marlar… and this is your Daily Dose of Weird

News!

A dozen years ago a guy from England had a brilliant plan for making money on the Internet:

He would create a website made up of a million pixels arranged in a 1000 by 1000 grid, then

sell 10 x 10 blocks for $1.

Today, in 2017, people are still finding creative ways to make a quick buck online.

For example, HowManyPeoplePaidADollarToSeeHowManyPeoplePaidADollar.com.

The owner of the site makes money be selling you — for $1 — the right to see how many

people have paid $1 to see how many people have done the thing you just did.

A driver in England crashed his $340,000 Ferrari an hour after he bought it.

The sports car was totaled but the driver walked away with only cuts and bruises.

***Also totaled was this guy's ego and his rate on auto insurance.

A supermarket in Scotland has come up with a relaxed check-out line where people are

encouraged to take their time, talk and ask the cashier questions.

***And that sounds like a great idea... as long as nobody is behind you.

If there is, then that SUCKS!

Now they're talking about Sean Spicer being on the next season of Dancing with the Stars.

***Well he's already used to dancing around reporters questions, so why not!

When police in England stopped a taxi driver for speeding one recent evening, he blamed

it on his passengers' foul-smelling flatulence.

***There's a lesson to be learned here.

If the farts are IN your car, you can't drive away from them - no matter how fast

you go.

The Pentagon reportedly spends $84-million on erectile dysfunction medication every year.

***Okay... somebody needs to show me in writing what the definition of "national defense"

actually is in this country.

Women prefer real men.

As in men who have hairy chests and beer bellies, rather than men who dress well and get manicures.

That's the word from a survey of British women conducted by Lion Bar Ice Cream.

They found 80% of women consider the metrosexual traits of hair straightening and frequent

tanning to be a sexual turnoff.

The poll also found that 10% of women like the smell of beer on a man's breath, while

20% admitted they are attracted to men with "a bit of body odor."

***Well then – if I'm ever single again I'm moving to Britain, post haste!

Anne Hathaway is in talks for the title role in a live-action "Barbie" movie.

***Which sounds almost as appealing as a sequel to "Jem and the Holograms".

Almost.

If you want to be so happy, whistle while you work -- either literally or figuratively.

You need to find a job that offers meaningful work where you believe your contributions

are adding to the company's big goals.

"That can be the most powerful force to keeping people happy," says Dr. Jonathon Halbesleben

(an associate professor of organizational behavior at the University of Alabama).

While a competitive salary and benefits package are essential, they are not what ultimately

make us happy at work or stay at the job.

One way to achieve a happy workplace is through "job crafting."

This is a radical idea -- at least from the boss's point of view -- where employees write

their own job description based on what they're interested in with specific tasks that suit

their skills and make them happy.

***I can understand why the boss might be a bit nervous about that idea.

My perfect job description would be spending 8-hours a day watching Netflix while eating

Cheetos.

Christie Brinkley says it's hard to meet "nice guys" at age 63.

***I'm finding that very difficult to believe because, well, she's Christie Brinkley and

men from the age of 20 to 120 want to date her.

Police in Iceland really want drivers to stop looking at the Northern Lights.

Iceland's Road and Coastal Administration, is trying to figure out how to deal with tourists

suddenly parking their cars in the middle of Iceland's highways to snap photos of the

lights.

***Have you tried the OFF switch?

President Trump donated his entire second quarter salary as president to the Department

of Education.

***Where teachers will educate our children in the English language so they can someday

become President of the United States and speak with a sixth-grade vocabulary.

For a brief period on Thursday Amazon CEO Jeff Bezo overtook Bill Gates as the world's

richest person with $90.9 billion.

***Good for him.

He no longer has to rent his bowling shoes.

California Moves One Step Closer To Declaring Independence From US Government - Duration: 5:39.

California Moves One Step Closer To Declaring Independence From US Government

by Tyler Durden

After a bid to launch a California secession movement failed in April, a more moderate

ballot measure has been approved, and its backers now have 180 days to attain nearly

600,000 signatures in order to put it up to vote in the 2018 election.

The Yes California movement advocated full-on secession from the rest of the country, and

it gained steam after Donald Trump won the presidential election in 2016.

However, as the Sacramento Bee noted, that attempt failed to gather the signatures needed

and further floundered after it was accused of having ties to Russia.

But as the Los Angeles Times reported this week:

On Tuesday afternoon, Atty.

Gen. Xavier Becerras office released an official title and summary for the initiative,

now called the California Autonomy From Federal Government initiative.

The new measure that seeks to set up an advisory commission to inform Californias governor

on ways to increase independence from the federal government.

It would reportedly cost $1.25 million per year to fund an advisory commission to

assist the governor on Californias independence plus unknown, potentially major, fiscal

effects if California voters approved changes to the states relationship with the United

States at a future election after the approval of this measure, the Los Angeles Times

reported.

With Becerras approval, its backers can now seek the nearly 600,000 signatures required

to place the measure on the 2018 ballot.

As the outlet explained:

The initiative wouldnt necessarily result in California exiting the country, but could

allow the state to be a fully functioning sovereign and autonomous nation within

the U.S.

According to the Attorney Generals official document on the measure, it still appears

to advocate secession as the ultimate goal even if it doesnt use the term outright.Repeals

provision in California Constitution stating California is an inseparable part of the United

States, the text explains, noting that the governor and California congress members

would be expected to negotiate continually greater autonomy from federal government,

up to and including agreement establishing California as a fully independent country,

provided voters agree to revise the California Constitution.

Marcus Ruiz Evans, who is backing this new measure, previously served as Vice President

of Yes California before it was pulled in April.

The relationship between California and the federal system just isnt working,

Evans has said.

He is now behind the movement to push through the more tempered approach.

Though some critics claim California would fail due to its massive debt, advocates point

to the states massive economy, ranked fifth largest in the world.

It boasts a large agricultural industry, a massive entertainment and culture industry,

Silicon Valley, and an ever-expanding legal cannabis market.

There are also other efforts in California to break away from the federal government.

Jed Wheeler is the general secretary of the California National Party and says he is looking

a dozen or more years down the road when its candidates hold office, the Los Angeles

Times reported in April when the original Yes California movement was floundering.

[T]he idea of having a ballot initiative is seductive and appeals to a lot of people,

Wheeler argued.

[Y]ou cant harvest the crop without the work of planting the seeds, then tilling

the soil and all that stuff first. There is also a longstanding movement to establish

a 51st state called Jefferson, which would include parts of northern California and southern

Oregon.

That effort has been underway since after World War II.

Regardless of the method or strategy or their effectiveness resistance to the

federal government is growing in California and elsewhere.

There are also secession movements in Vermont, Texas, New Hampshire, and Hawaii.

As Anti-Media observed shortly after the 2016 election:

People are rioting and protesting over Trumps win throughout California but celebrating

in Alabama, and against the backdrop of an ever-encroaching federal government, it appears

these differences are growing difficult to reconcile.

This election put the deep societal rifts between left, right, and those in between

on stark display, and the degree of hate and animosity is palpable.

Now that Trump has taken office, these differences are all the more glaring and are likely to

grow as time goes on.

Politics, Sci-fi, and Action! | BookTube - Duration: 10:13.

Hello I'm Rogan and welcome back. Yes! One video before August starts.

So today will be a BookTube video.

I'm still trying to decide, do I like that sign or not? But I'm going to go with that for now.

And the reason why I'm not doing this with the books, the background…is because

We're doing renovations, so… Forget that. I'm not doing that.

Yes, the library is right there. It's on the other side of that wall.

So I have seven books that I have finished from the last time I did…a…video.

Normally, I would have WAY more done, but… [shrugs] Life happened. And I'm a little lazy.

The first two books that I'm going to talk about, I don't have because I borrowed them from the library.

I had to return them and I read those a while ago. I've mentioned them in my previous videos as well.

The first one is "Language at the Speed of Sight."

It's…a good book yes, but.. It feels more aimed at academics, teachers.

It's not for the everyday, casual reader so…

If you have a passion for language, and really love heavy, dense science, read this book.

It's good, but I wouldn't recommend it to everyone.

I would just suggest you look it up yourself, because I feel like I can't really explain it well, so do that.

The second book is "Liberty and Coercion: The Paradox of American Government From the Founding to the Present."

It is actually good. It's really good.

It talks about how the American People have always wanted freedom.

They don't want to be told what to do by the government.

But at the same time, they want the government to enforce others to do things.

It's really interesting. It talks about how that want was right there from the beginning,

from the founding of American government. And continues to now!

It is interesting, so if you really like politics and that kind of stuff, this is a good read.

Next book is mine. "A Wrinkle in Time" Yes, it's old!

When you see yellowed pages, you know it's old.

I don't even know how many times I've read this book.

And I do have the second book, "A Swiftly Tilting (Planet)." Yeah.

It's on the shelves, I haven't re-read it but yes I've read it.

If you don't know what this book is, who are you and where have you been? Read it!

Okay. For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about.

"A scientist has vanished. Now an eerie midnight visitor leads three children in search of him —

though a wrinkle in time, to the deadly unknown terrors beyond the tesseract! Chilling science fiction!"

That's the description on the back if you didn't get that.

Read it.

I am SO excited for the re-make! (I'm talking about the movie re-make.)

They just announced it, I'm like (unable to say anything).

It looks like it's going to be SO GOOD and I'm excited about it for several reasons.

There are a lot of people of color in it. A lot of women. A+.

The director is a woman. A woman of color if I remember correctly.

Mrs Who, Mrs Whatsit, and Mrs Which. Two of them are women of color.

There are scenes where they didn't HAVE to be diverse, but they were! Fantastic. I am ready.

I don't think you understand how excited I am for this. [devolves into silence]

Moving on. The next book is one I borrowed from a friend when we were camping together in the Olympics.

"Chocolat." It is good! I wasn't expecting to like it, but it is actually pretty good.

It's apparently a series. And…please don't let the cover on GoodReads deceive you.

I was really disappointed in the cover. The cover on GoodReads makes it look like one of those…

Dare I say this word? Trashy romance novels.

Now. There is nothing wrong with a good trashy book every once in a while.

But! You get what kind of book I'm talking about.

The GoodReads cover is here.

Yeah, it's not like that at all.

It's about a woman who has a gift of being able to see people's secrets,

and she opens up a chocolate shop in a small town that's strongly controlled by a priest and the church.

I don't want to tell you too much of this book because it's really good and I think you really should read it.

The writing style is different, but it's really good.

The next book that I read… I don't have a physical book,

and I also will not be giving you my review because I did it for Chanticleer, the website I did a book review for before.

"The Tide King." It's…interesting. I will link that review when it's posted, I will link that below.

Moving on! Next book.

Ooh shiny! Okay.

"Honour Among Thieves." This is the title, not this. Ignore this.

That kind of bothers me that now, the author names are bigger than the title. Why? Why do you do that?

You confuse people! Stop!

Especially if the title of the book is the name of a person. Why?

ANYWAY.

This book is…hm. It's set in 1993. The year I was born!

And basically, it's about a group of criminals who got hired to steal the Declaration of Independence.

If you want action, adventure, spies, that's the book for you.

Next! I was disappointed in this one.

"A Wanted Man - A Jack Reacher Novel."

What's up with all the shiny author names?

But yeah, see my point! This is the author. This is the name of the person the series is about.

You probably recognize this name because of the recent movies with Tom Cruise.

I'm sorry, but Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher? Mmm.

His appearance doesn't match what's described in the books.

But also, disclaimer, I've never seen one of those movies so…

I've read Jack Reacher books before, and I do like the series, but this one.

This book is basically an action novel and I expected action to start kind of early, with Jack Reacher.

It should happen around maybe a third, maybe earlier.

But this, it felt like it didn't really happen until halfway, or more. So… [shrugs]

And that's all for the books that I've read since.

The book I'm currently reading is this one. "Hidden Figures."

I haven't seen the movie. So I want to finish reading this before I watch the movie.

I bought this a while ago, like November, I think? Something like that.

And yeah, finally getting around to reading it now.

I have a whole stack of books that I got a while ago that I think I've shown on camera.

I still haven't even read them.

So I am finally getting around to them.

That's because I forced myself to stop getting books from the library until I actually read what I have.

And speaking of not getting books from the library so I can actually read what I already have.

I bought these like, last week.

Those five books all together cost $15.

So. What happened is that the local bookstore, used bookstore, that I'm getting these from had a going-out-of-business sale.

I thought about it and decided to go ahead and go in, see if I can find anything. And good thing I did!

I thought they weren't closing until July 31st. I was wrong.

They closed down and were completely empty except for the bookshelves.

Like, three days after I went. So good thing I did.

But there is another used bookstore just down the street, so we're good.

I'm hoping to do my next BookTube video a little sooner than this.

Because I'm starting to feel like I'm doing it every two months.

I would like to try and do it at least once a month with more books than just…you know.

So if there's any book recommendations that you have, leave them in the comments below.

Yes, I am aware I don't really need more because my TBR (To Be Read) list is growing.

It grows every day. Every day.

At this rate, I'll never finish reading.

Hey, that's the life of a book lover.

2011-2013 Mustang GT, GT500 Flowmaster Outlaw Series Axle-Back Exhaust Sound Clip & Install - Duration: 5:36.

The Flowmaster Outlaw will be one of the loudest systems in the category for just north of

$400, making this system the perfect choice for Coyote owners out there who want to be

heard by everyone and have absolutely no remorse for other cars, neighbors, or eardrums around

you.

In true Flowmaster form, the 409-grade stainless construction will be finished off in this

heat-resistant black paint, and it will get a simple one out of three wrenches on the

difficulty meter, with more detail to come on the install later in the video.

But since this is an exhaust, after all, let's break down the sound clips you guys just heard

with our 5L GT.

As advertised, the Outlaw is an absolute screamer.

Easily one of the loudest systems I've personally heard here on the newer GT, and an easy five

out of five on my one to five, or one to Wake the Neighbors scale.

While this thing is loud on the outside, you are getting an equal amount of loudness on

the inside of the car as well, and that's something some owners might like and others

maybe not so much.

Now, if you do have your heart set on that iconic Flowmaster sound, but maybe aren't

ready for that much volume, you might want to check out the American Thunder system instead.

Now, one thing I always like to point out in axle-back videos and one thing I think

is important to consider is your future plans for your exhaust system.

Because as loud and as angry as this thing sounds right now, you have to keep in mind

this is still with the factory manifolds and cats still in place.

Remove those in favor of some aftermarket long tubes or an aftermarket mid-pipe and

that sound is only going to get louder and crazier.

So if you're cool with that, great.

You're certainly in the right place here.

However, if the current volume level of the Outlaw is just kind of tiptoeing the line

of being a little too loud, well it's only going to get louder with those future exhaust

mods.

So again, just something to consider when shopping for an axle-back.

But let's talk about why the Outlaw is such a head-turner in the volume department, and

I can honestly speak to this with experience, because I've actually assembled one of these

guys at the Flowmaster factory.

Now, the Outlaw, at least this portion here, starts off as a four-inch piece of tubing,

and then is stuffed with about five metal baffles welded into place one at a time.

Now, these guys do have a hole right in the middle, so they're going to allow for a nice

free-flowing system.

But in addition to that, it's also going to allow for all that volume like you heard with

our sound clips.

As for the rest of the construction, well you're looking at 409-grade stainless steel

here, which is a nice step up from the aluminized steel when it comes to reducing corrosion

over the years.

Even more so when you factor in this high-temperature black paint that Flowmaster hits this system

with at the end of production.

Going even further with construction, you are going to find two and three-quarter-inch

mandrel-bent tubing, what little of it there is.

Then, finally, everything is going to exit out the large four-inch tips here, embossed

with the Flowmaster logo.

Keep in mind, you're getting all of this for just north of $400, making the Outlaw pretty

affordable in the land of aftermarket axle-back exhaust systems.

But let's get into the install, and you'll be happy to know here, gang, the S197 axle-backs

are going to be a complete breeze.

So one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, maybe an hour or so of your time, depending

on your expertise, your setup, and just how fast you like to work.

Tool-wise, a basic socket set is going to be doing most of your work for this install.

But I always like to factor in some spray lubricant to help you with a couple of rusty

bolts and those rubber exhaust hangers.

Then, finally, just get the rear of the car up in the air to make life a little bit easier.

So a lift, jack and jack stands or race ramps, whatever you have laying around the garage.

Getting started, you'll need to remove the factory mufflers from your car first.

To do so, just remove the clamp closest to the muffler itself, and a few bolts at the

hanger, securing the factory muffler to the car, and then dropping everything down at

one time.

At this point, you can transfer those hangers over to the new Outlaw system, and then lift

them into place, securing a few bolts at the hanger, in addition to that clamp that you

removed in the very first step.

But don't tighten everything down quite yet.

Just snug these bolts up, because you're going to want to get those tips positioned exactly

where you want them in the opening of your rear bumper.

Once you have everything where you want it, go ahead and tighten up all those bolts and

your installation is complete.

Wrapping things up here, guys, the Flowmaster Outlaw is a fan favorite on the site, with

over 100-plus five-star reviews, and listening to the system it's pretty easy to hear why.

If you're a fan of loud stuff, you will not be disappointed with the Flowmaster Outlaw,

and you can grab yours right here at americanmuscle.com.

Celiac Disease | MY DIAGNOSIS STORY 2011-2017 (CC) - Duration: 8:54.

Hey, my name is Brooke and welcome to my YouTube channel

um I

Thought I would start doing some kind of personal videos because this channel is about me and who I am and what I stand for

So I wanted to

accommodate that and

make videos that are personal but can help people and maybe inspire others and

all that good stuff, so

today's video

I'm gonna be talking about my celiac disease and my story and my journey leading up to it um

I am saying all this on the top of my head

so I don't really know if I'll forget anything or if I'll

You know I?

just I'll probably forget something and that's okay with me because

Nothing's perfect, and I'm not perfect so I know I'll forget something but other than that let's get on with this story

So it started um late October (In 2011)

I was trick-or-treating and I started not feeling good, and then early november. I really started not feeling good

I was sick at School. I

Was nauseous all the time I had excruciating pain in my chest

Area and I was just sick as a dog I couldn't get up and one day I

Was in the kitchen, and I literally just knelt on the ground and started crying because of how much pain I was in

So then my mom decided to take me to the emergency room. That's like an hour away, and

the first emergency room visit was

Okay, I mean she said that I was dehydrated and that was the whole problem

so

She gave me dehydration stuff and my IV and then sent me my way and for a few days. It did work. I was dehydrated

Because I don't drink enough water, but that was not the whole problem

So we go back a second time in a second. I'm was like a living hell, she didn't even

She left the IV and me and then went to lunch knowing that my eye view was almost done

So it was there beeping for like 20 minutes, and it was so annoying. I got a headache from it and

It was just in me doing nothing

And so we had to have someone else pull it out of me because she totally forgot about me

So then the third time I don't remember I'm pretty sure she did the same dehydration thing that the other two did

Saying that I was dehydrated still blah blah blah

They wouldn't listen to me and my mom me and my mom

Were saying that it might be my gallbladder my gallbladder might be wrong or hurting and that might be what's wrong

So we'd like you to check it and they would not check it for us they would not listen to us which really peed me

off

so then

Finally the fourth time we had an amazing doctor. We had a man doctor

That was really really really sweet listened to every single word me and my mom said

Listen to Every Pain, I had

Everything he was terrific. He did every skin that he could on me

Did not do that dehydration thing. He did not do that because he knew I did it three times already and

They were overdoing me on hydration

then I

Did a cat scan which took about five hours to prep for I'm pretty sure I had to drink stuff for like five hours

some liquid stuff for my cat scan that was my first ever one that I've ever done and

Then he later proceeded to tell us that we needed to go to a gi doctor and a gi doctor is basically a stomach doctor

someone that focuses on the intestinal kind of things so we go to her and

she

Listened to us it was just amazing how they were listening to us. They were finally listening and

We're taking everything that we said into consideration

So after listening to my symptoms and such she agreed that it had something with my gallbladder

So she wanted to do a blood test to see if I had celiac disease

That was one of the tests she ran she ran multiple of course, but that was one of them, and it actually turned out negative

She still believed that it is the symptoms of celiac so she did not want to get up because give up because sometimes

People with celiac turn out negative on the blood test, but positive on the scopes

So I had to do a colonoscopy which you have in like your 40s 60s

Somewhere around there keep in mind. I was only 11 years old this time and

It's basically a scope that goes through your throat and up your butt

so that you can see the top of your stomach and the bottom of your stomach and

The prepping day is terrible the day before it you have to poop literally all day

To get yourself cleaned out totally 100% you can't eat anything good

I lived on banana popsicles because I hate jello, and that was the only other thing I could eat

But it was terrible and I really didn't want to do it again ever

but you know

things change I'll get to that in a second but

and it turned out that I had the symptoms of celiac disease my

Small intestines was inflamed, and that's what happens when some more celiac

Inhales are not in health I guess in hills kind of

Eats Gluten contains gluten

whatever you want to call it um and

that was that they said you have celiac disease your small intestine tells tells us, so and

You have all the symptoms of it you have celiac

And then they they were like we're gonna put you on a six-week gluten-free diet and see what happens

So they put me on a six-week gluten-free diet, and it turns out that I did have celiac because after the six weeks going gluten-free

Everything turned back to normal my gallbladder started working again

Because during the time it was working at 0% and it up to 50% within six weeks

So my gallbladder was back to normal again. I

Had no pains. Well, I still had pains

Because someone with celiac you're gonna have stomach pains pretty much the rest of your life um

That's just what happens, and that's what life is it might be different for other people with celiac but for me

I have pains every single day, and that's just something I have to live with

So that's how I was diagnosed with celiac, and I've actually had a lot more problems with it throughout my life

I had a second colonoscopy

Um either this year or the beginning of last year, I can't remember

I know it's crazy that I can't remember earlier this year, but I've slept since then but um yeah

I've had a second one because of continuous pains, and it turned out everything looked great. I had no signs of gluten in my system

Because I am on a strict strict diet

Of no gluten whatsoever. I can't have

Anything with gluten, and you'll be surprised how many things have gluten in them. It's just not bread. It's just

Everything pretty much everything meets

Toothpaste can hi that gum can have it

Lotions makeup, I have to look at the ingredients on every single thing that I put on my body or in my body

so yeah

That's pretty much it um

That's how I was diagnosed with celiac. It was it took three months to figure out

That's what it was it took from November to January. I was diagnosed on my mother's birthday. Which is January 26 and

Yeah, that's how it happened. I

Think that's all I have to say

Let me see I think I got everything

That was important anyways

but yeah

Sooo

Yeah, I think I got everything I'm just trying to remember if I forgot anything

I don't think I did so thank you so so so much for watching. I really hope you enjoyed if you have celiac

"American Splendor" by Harvey Pekar comic review - graphic novel recommendations - Duration: 2:57.

[Book cover of graphic novel "American Splendor" by Harvey Pekar - comic review from comics recommendation list]

Alright, now let's talk about a landmark work of comics: it's American Splendor by Harvey Pekar.

American Splendor was a series of autobiographical comics that were published by Harvey Pekar from 1976 through until 2008, which was shortly before his death.

The comics were mostly autobiographical stories about Harvey's everyday life. Which was quite a revelation in the time when he started publishing these comics in the 70s.

It was Harvey who had the foresight to see the comics didn't have to be about superheroes, or dragons, or outer space.

He saw that comics could equally be about needing to take your car to the mechanic.

Or, being called up for jury duty.

Or, his experiences working his day job as a filing clerk in a Cleveland hospital.

Throughout the run of comics, you get the sense that Harvey is a battler, living a slim existence.

Even though he gets invited for regular appearances on the David Letterman show, the actual sales of his comic were fairly low.

So, balancing his budget and money issues continue to be a recurring theme of American Splendor.

As is his relationship with his wife, and his efforts to be a good dad to their adopted daughter.

Harvey was the writer of all of these comics, but he didn't draw the artwork for any of the comics.

So all the different stories are drawn by a variety of artists, including the legendary R. Crumb.

Actually, it's really interesting to see the way that all of the different artists drew Harvey in their own style.

It's really interesting to see the juxtaposition between those who draw him in a realistic style,

compared to those who seem to delight in drawing Harvey in a grotesque style.

Now look, on one hand Harvey Pekar was just an average working class guy,

but on the other hand he was a real visionary who essentially invented a whole new genre of comics.

And as I shoot this video, it's been about 7 years since Harvey's death,

and there hasn't yet been a great effort to grab the American Splendor back-catalogue and reprint it in a comprehensive way.

So until now, until someone gets around to releasing a new anthology,

probably your best bet is the book American Splendor: The Life and Times of Harvey Pekar,

which is a reprint of his first two anthologies – and includes comics from the late 70s and early 80s.

But honestly, someone should get this stuff back into print.

Including his book Our Cancer Year, which was written by Harvey and his wife about the year the Harvey had cancer.

So, check out the American Splendor comics, and also check out the film American Splendor, starring Paul Giamatti as Harvey Pekar, which is really well done.

Dragons in Harry Potter - Letters to July 31 #WithCaptions - Duration: 2:11.

Dear July, Today is Harry Potter's birthday, a day I celebrate even in years when I don't

celebrate my own because he is the bo y who lived and his story has taught me how to live.

(intro).

On the 20th anniversary of the publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone,

I published a video detailing 20 things I've learned from Harry Potter, but only 20 things.

I don't think I'll ever be able to list everything that I've learned because it keeps teaching

me new things.

That's why I love them because wherever I'm at in life, the books, they're there for me and ready

to reveal something new.

Lately, I've been thinking about the dragons and how they parallel Harry's journey.

The first dragon we are introduced to in the story is Norbert the Norwegian Ridgeback,

or rather, Norberta.

She is a lot like Harry in that they are both taken in as infants by Hagrid, who just wants

to love them.

Hagrid picks an infant Harry out of the remains of his house and picks Norberta out of a pub

when she's still just an egg.

Hagrid also willingly gives up Harry and Norberta so that they can be with some sort of family

- Harry with the Dursleys and Norberta on a Romanian Dragon Reserve.

Both of Hagrid's wards are eventually taken in by the Weasley's as well, Molly considers

Harry a seventh son and Norberta is accepted into the reserve because of Charlie.

The next set of dragons we encounter are those used in the first task of the Triwizard Tournament.

Much like HArry, they are unwilling participants in the tournament who are being attacked and

gawked at.

They're just trying to live their lives, and suddenly their handlers - people they trust

- drag them into a dangerous situation.

Kind of like how teacher entered Harry into this tournament.

The last dragon I'll talk about is the Ukranian Ironbellly that guarded some of the deepest

vaults in Gringotts Wizarding Bank.

You could get past it by using something that made a noise the dragon had learned to associate with pain.

The Ukrainian Ironbelly was a survivor of abuse, much like HArry had survived and escaped

abuse from the Dursleys, from Snape, from death eaters, and countless others.

That's why I love when Harry, Hermione, and Ron free the Ukranina Ironbelly because after

you escape an abusive situation you want to help others get out of them too.

Happy Birthday, Harry.

Thank you for all you've done.

Love, Katrina.

Bones and advanced prostate cancer - Why are bones important? - Duration: 5:42.

This video tells you why bones are important

in advanced prostate cancer.

[sting and music sounds]

This video is the first of five short videos on bones and prostate cancer.

I'm not a doctor.

I'm just a man with locally advanced, recurrent, prostate cancer.

I ask the questions.

An expert medical oncologist answers the questions.

And when you occasionally hear this sound,

[swish],

our resident artist attempts to illustrate.

Meet the doctor.

My name is Alicia Morgans, and I'm the Assistant

Professor of Medicine at the Vanderbilt University

in Nashville, Tennessee, in the United States.

Doctor Morgans, where does prostate cancer start to grow?

Prostate cancer starts to grow in the prostate.

[swish].

Prostate cancer can move away from the prostate.

What do we call that?

When prostate cancer moves away from or out of

the prostate, we call that metastasising.

Is the cancer in these new places still prostate cancer?

When prostate cancer has spread outside the prostate and is growing somewhere else

we still think of it as prostate cancer, even if

it's growing in the bones, or a lymph node,

or a liver, or in the lungs, it's still prostate cancer cells.

When prostate cancer spreads, where does it prefer to go?

The most common place for prostate cancer to spread is the bones,

and up to ninety percent of men who have very advanced prostate cancer

have prostate cancer growing in the bones.

If prostate cancer grows in the bones is it still prostate cancer?

When prostate cancer is growing in the bones or in any other organ,

it is still prostate cancer cells, it just moved somewhere else.

How can we tell that there is prostate cancer in the bones?

We can tell that there's prostate cancer in the bones by using imaging techniques.

We commonly use bone scans.

We can use things like PET Scans as well, sometimes MRIs.

In the United States at least, the most common form of imaging that we use

to find prostate cancer in the bones is a bone scan.

How does a bone scan work?

Bone scans have a special die that travels into

the bones in areas where the bones are remodelling,

or remaking themselves.

Those areas are often areas where prostate cancer

is growing, and those areas then light up

when we use the imaging techniques to look at it.

When the radiologist is reading a bone scan, areas where prostate cancer is growing in

the bones

look black on the scans, with the background of the skeleton behind it,

so that the radiologist can see exactly which bones have areas of

prostate cancer growing in it.

Which particular bones does prostate cancer often attack first?

The bones that the prostate cancer often goes to first are the bones in the pelvis,

and then often the bones in the spine.

Where is the pelvis?

The pelvis is the area, if you put your hands on your hips,

it's the bones from there down to the bones where you sit.

>> JIM: Thank you.

Thank you.

bones and advanced prostate cancer.
