Waching daily Aug 1 2017

hey everyone welcome back to my channel it's Veronica. In today's video I'm going

to be showing you guys this new planner that I got from personal planner as well

as kind of doing a little review on it and also showing you how I set mine up

so the reason I thought you guys would like this planner versus a lot of other

planners I've seen is because personal planners website is set up so that you

can design your own journal how you want it to look so overall it's super

customizable so you guys could make it however you want the reason I thought

this would be really nice is because I know a lot of you are into all my bullet

journal videos and you really like to kind of design and put all that together

some of you have also said that you know sometimes it's hard to do a bullet

journal all the time because you know it is a little time consuming to write

everything out exact so sometimes it's nice to just have a planner where you

can just have it all already done for you and then you just have to write in

all of your things to track so like I said I'll just be reviewing that

planners let's just jump right into it and don't forget to stick to the end

because I'm also going to be doing a giveaway so I figured I would just start

out by showing you guys everything that came with my planner so first I got some

stickers there's some emojis on some different little signs and banners

I might actually write on top of some of the banners I think that might look cute

and the next I got a ruler and this was super cool because it actually clicks

into the planner so you guys know I love using a ruler when I do all of my

planning and so this is going to be perfect that way it will be always with

the planner and then whenever I'm doing it I'll always just have it there so

then the next thing I got was this little card that has a little contest on

it and I kind of thought this was cool like a neat idea and then next I got an

elastic cord and this one you can pick out the color on line when you're

designing everything and I picked out white and what this is for is it

basically goes into the two holes on the back of the planner so then it comes

around the front and it just keeps your planner closed and then finally I got a

plastic sheet that also snaps into the planner so then you can just store your

stickers and everything else in this I think this is super cool because then

you can keep everything pretty much in your planner you can keep your ruler

your stickers all your supplies and then when you want to kind of plan something

out you have everything you need right in your planner

so then now I'm also going to be showing you guys how I set up my planner and

kind of what the personal planners website looks like so when you go on the

site you can either make a planner a notebook or a wall planner so I'm just

going to go into the planner section and then you can also pick a size so they

have a mini planner all the way up to a large planner and the large planner is

actually the one I got because I'm used to a larger kind of setup so then you

move on and you can pick out the color you want your planner to be and then you

can also kind of design the front a little bit so you can put your name on

it you can put the date and then you can kind of move that around a little bit as

well and they also have other patterns you can do if you don't want a solid

color or you know different designs and then you can also add a picture which is

actually what I did so I was almost a little worried about doing a photo on

the front because usually when you blow up a photo and you put it on a cover of

something it usually turns out grainy and not that great equality so I was

really surprised when I got this because it's super nice and it's a really nice

quality so that was one of those things I really liked about this so then your

back can be a different color or you can add another photo on the back but I just

kept my back a plain color and then I did the picture on the front so another

really cool thing is you can choose when you want your planner to start so if you

guys don't order one until September you don't have to have a planner that starts

in January because you're really not going to use the rest of the days so I

had mine start out in July and then I actually got a few days from June as

well just to kind of start you off and then it moves you into the next month

and then you can also pick the color of the elastic cord like I said and I just

went with the basic color and then in the front of the planner

I just put my name and then I added some quotes and you can also put your address

in here just in case you lose it or anything and then you move right into

your weekly setup so when you're putting your whole

planner together you can pick the design for the top bar of the planner and I

just want with a blue or color because the front was pink and blue and I just

kind of wanted to stick with that theme a little bit and then you can also

choose the color of other things so like the ruler you can choose what color you

want I just kept it simple with grey and then you can also choose if you want

lines on your page if you want colored lines or just no lines at all

and then you can also pick the layout set up so they have four different

setups and I actually went with number two but I was looking at four after I

did it and I think four would be another cool one to do as well so then you can

also add a little spot to track the weather to track your work and a spot

for work out and I made mine bigger because you can make it bigger or

smaller and then on the bottom I also added a few more trackers and just a

little list so for the first thing I did a to-do list and that way can just maybe

use this for weekly goals as well and then I kept the second one blank because

I wanted to write next to that and then I added a grid next to that so that I

think is going to be my habit tracker and then finally I just added another

blank list you guys could play around with tons of different things they have

a lot of different little trackers you can add some graphs things like that

this would also probably be really nice for school just keep track of like your

schedule and your exams and things like that and then after all your weeks of

June you have your July calendar and it has a little spot on the side so I think

that's cool I might put my goals for the month there and then you have a calendar

in between all of the weeks

so then once you get to the back you can add a bunch of other pages there are 48

pages in your journal and you can add 24 more so you could add some blank ones or

some other ones that they had I added a year review for 2017

and then a year in review for 2018 and I also added some maps in the back because

I like traveling and I just thought that would be something cool dad and then I

added some other blank pages so you guys know I usually plan out with rolled

pages but I also kind of sometimes want to try out the dotted pages so I figured

I would add ruled pages some added pages and then I also added some grid pages as

well you can't really see it in the video because the camera can't really

pick it up but they're there and then after that I have my overview so this

does start in January even if your planner starts later than that and then

I have 2018 and this goes all the way up to December and then lastly I have the

maps and I thought this would be kind of cool maybe to like mark off the places

I've been and use it kind of like a tracker for traveling again and then

that's it for my planner.

so overall I think this is a really good quality planner like I said the picture

on the front was so nice the colors work really well together and they're also

pretty accurate to what they look like online so you don't get something and

better kind of surprised by what you get and not really expect that color and

then I really like all the accessories and I just really love the fact that

this is super customizable because that's always a cool thing so yeah I

really love this planner and I love how mine turned out alright so for the

giveaway I've partnered with personal planner and they're going to be giving

away a gift card for any size planner from their website so you can go on

there and you can design your own planner exactly how you want it and then

you can get any size as well mine is the largest size but you can get a lot of

other sizes kind of like I showed you guys in the video so I'll have all the

rules and the details for the giveaway down in the description box below just

in case any of this isn't clear but for the most part all you have to do to be

entered into the giveaway is please subscribe to this channel follow me on

Từ vựng về em bé - Duration: 10:03.

If you watched my video two weeks ago to the very end, then you already know my good news.

And if you haven't watched the end of that video, then I just want to tell you right now . . .

I'm a dad!

Because of that, I feel now would be an appropriate time to teach you guys some vocabulary related to babies,

because I've found that this subject has a lot of special words, along with some others that aren't very clear.

Plus, everyone likes babies, right?

The baby's ready.

Let's do it.

Of course, before you can have a baby, you and another person have to conceive it.

I'm not going to illustrate that scene. Bit too hot.

The verb for that process is:

I don't know why we use that word,

because normally "conceive" means, like, to form an idea or an opinion.

But here, it means to form a person.

Anyway, you can say, for example:

And the noun form of "conceive" is "conception."

For example, people who protest against abortion often say, "Life begins at conception,"

which means . . . (you already know because you speak English).

After conception, the mother carries the baby.

I'm guessing most of you already know we would say, "She's pregnant,"

but English also has some slang and euphemisms for it.

If you haven't watched my video about euphemisms, you can watch it here.

In the first three to four months of pregnancy, a lot of women experience something really awful:

being "nghén."

When we talk about that in English, we usually say "morning sickness,"

because the most common "nghén" symptom is being nauseated in the morning.

I know the term "morning sickness" is a bit overly specific compared to "nghén,"

but English doesn't have any other commonly used words for it.

Okay, moving on.

After all those months of morning sickness, ballooning up, and so on,

a woman finally reaches the moment of giving birth.

Right before a woman gives birth, Vietnamese people usually wish her "round mother, square baby,"

and some students have asked me if English has a similar sort of idiom.

No.

You could say something like,

but English doesn't have any traditional phrases for that situation.

What's more, if you explained the phrase "round mother, square baby" to a Western like me,

and explained that in the philosophy of yin and yang,

the circle and the square together symbolize completeness, and so forth,

that Westerner would probably find it pretty odd,

because in English, the circle and the square typically appear together in the idiom

which, in a figurative sense, means trying in vain to do the impossible.

So to me, the phrase "round mother, square baby" . . .

doesn't really sound that good.

Okay, we're getting sidetracked.

We're learning about having babies here.

I know you all know how to talk about the act of birth with respect to the baby or yourself, for example:

But I've found a lot of you don't know how to talk about the act of birth with respect to the mother.

The precise term for it is "to give birth."

For example:

However, native speakers often just use the word "have."

For example:

I'm not making that up. It's the truth.

Why did you do that, kid?

You think Mom and Dad don't need to sleep?

Bad baby!

Women can have a baby in the normal way or in the surgical way.

The normal was is called:

And if the mother doesn't use any drugs, doesn't have an episiotomy, or anything like that,

that's called "a natural birth."

And the surgical method is called:

"Caesarean" because a lot of historians have speculated that Julius Caesar,

the dictator of the Roman Republic, was born that way.

However, we very rarely say "Caesarean section"

and instead usually shorten it to "C-section."

And babies born that way are usually called:

Take me, for example:

English has got another shortened word, wich we use for babies born too early.

In English, we call that situation "premature birth,"

and we call those babies "preemies."

No joke.

4.2 kilograms.

And it was a vaginal delivery.

Talented mom, or what?

And yet another shortened phrase: instead of saying "a newborn baby,"

native speakers often leave off the word "baby" and just say "a newborn."

For example:

And when you bring your newborn home, everyone will come visit and say things like

"So cute!" "She looks just like her mom!" And so on.

And just a few days ago, I learned that people also often say "trộm vía" (kind of like "knock on wood").

She's so cute, knock on wood.

She's so healthy, knock on wood.

She's so quiet and easy, knock on wood.

We don't say anything like that in English.

If you think the baby is beautiful, go ahead and say it's beautiful.

If you think it looks healthy, go ahead and say it looks healthy.

And if you feel the baby is "ngoan," you should use a word that you probably won't guess.

With older children, "ngoan" is "good" or "well-behaved."

However, with a "ngoan" baby, that is a baby who doesn't scream or cry very much,

native speakers usually just say "easy."

Take this one, for example.

And if your baby is easy and healthy, then there are only three things you need to do for it:

bathe it, feed it, and change it.

For the first one, don't say "take a shower to the baby,"

but rather "give the baby a bath" or "bathe the baby."

Feeding the baby—

You don't get to watch that! All you get is an illustration.

The terms for that are:

You probably know the word "nurse" as someone who works in a hospital,

but it means "to breastfeed," too.

And for changing the diaper, you can translate it word by word:

"thay" . . . "change"

"bỉm" . . . "diaper" or "nappy"

However, once again, native speakers often shorten it and leave off the word "diaper."

If you hear someone say,

that means they need to change its diaper.

And finally, I want to talk about something that's been really exasperating for me over the past few days:

the post-pregnancy "no-nos."

Oh, a woman who's just given birth can only eat lean pork and "rau ngót" soup.

She can't leave the house for a month.

And she can't shower, either!

Jesus.

I think a lot of you know already,

but to those who don't, I just want to say . . .

Guys, people in other countries don't abstain from anything after giving birth.

All of the post-pregnancy rules in Vietnam aren't based on anything,

other than ignorance.

And for things like that, that is traditional health advice that isn't based on science,

we use the phrase "old wives' tales."

For example, there's an old wives' tale where I'm from that cracking your knuckles will lead to arthritis.

It's not true. It's just a superstition.

And all of the things you're supposed to abstain from after giving birth . . .

Here's wishing you a "round mother, square baby."

(The rest of the video is just about ELSA, an English pronunciation app that I'm guessing you don't need, since you watched this video with English subtitles.)

(However, there are some more pictures of the baby at the very end. Skip to 9:21.)

How Airlines Schedule Flights - Duration: 9:42.

This video was made possible by Clear.

The first 200 people to sign up at clearme.com/wendover get three free months of speeding through

airport security with Clear.

Airlines are notoriously difficult businesses to run.

Each and every flight operated is a multi-thousand dollar gamble on whether or not passengers

will buy tickets.

Aside from cost, the strongest factor for customers on which flight they will take is

often the overall travel time so airlines put enormous effort into properly assembling

their puzzle of flights so they can offer the shortest connection time possible.

With so many destinations all across the world, it's just natural that most routes require

connections so airlines need to attract connecting passengers in order to stay in business.

Now, most flight connections for traditional airlines happen out of their hub airports.

American Airlines, for example, has 10 across the United States and every single one of

their flights either begins or ends at these airports, but not all hubs are created equal.

Charlotte Douglas, Reagan National, and Laguardia are largely built for north-south traffic

and terminating traffic.

Miami is for connecting North American travelers to flights to the Caribbean and South America.

Philadelphia is a bit of a hybrid hub connecting both north-south traffic and North American

traffic onto flights to Europe.

JFK is the major hub for connecting North American traffic to European flights.

And the Los Angeles hub's main purpose is to connect North American traffic to Asia

and Oceania bound flights, but then there are these three—Chicago O'Hare, Dallas

Fort Worth, and Phoenix Sky Harbor airports.

These three airports are the truly important connection airports since they lie between

the coasts and their schedules reflect this.

The east-west routes are the most competitive in the United States so American has to offer

short connections in order to dominate the market.

So what American Airlines has done is that they've banked their hubs.

What this means is that, for the most part, all their flights arrive and depart at roughly

the same time.

For example, on any given Wednesday in the fall the Philadelphia flight will arrive at

11:14 am, then the Atlanta flight at 11:17, the DC one at 11:29, and the Nashville flight

at 11:45.

Then, at 12:40 the flight to Denver leaves, at 12:45 the one to Las Vegas, at 1:00 the

one to San Francisco, and at 1:10 the flight to Los Angeles.

This way, nobody has to wait longer than two hours to connect.

Almost every flight American operates in and out of DFW falls into one of their 10 daily

banks.

This is how the airline gets those connecting passengers—by offering shorter connection

times.

Nearby Dallas Love Field is Southwest Airlines' main hub but it operates in an entirely different

way.

It just has planes arriving and leaving at a consistent average of about 8-12 flights

per hour all day long and there's a good reason for this—Southwest is a budget airline.

Banked hubs are significantly more expensive to run because they require more resources.

The airline needs to have enough equipment, people, and gates to turn around all their

planes at the same time.

If the planes came in at a smooth pace all the people and equipment could be used continuously

but at a banked hub, the airline still needs to pay for their people and equipment during

the down-time between the banks.

If a plane leaves Philadelphia bound for DC at 9:30 with the 9-10 am bank it will arrive

around 10 am but it will have to wait to leave until about 11:15 to time its arrival with

the 11:45-12:45 bank.

Planes cost money whether they're in the air or sitting on the ground so having planes

wait around to time with banks costs money too.

This is why a budget airline will never schedule their planes to sit on the ground during the

day for more than an hour.

Once a plane lands, it immediately loads up and takes off again as soon as possible.

For this reason, the planes of a budget airline like Spirit Airlines are in the air for an

average of 11 hours per day while American airlines only uses their planes for an average

of 8.5 hours per day.

Banked hubs can also make delays more probable.

When there are so many planes going out at once an airport might just not be able to

cope with the surge in activity.

If a thunderstorm hits the airport, for example, a whole bank of flights might be delayed or

cancelled which would create a knock-on effect all across the country.

These banking systems are essentially higher risk, higher reward in terms of delays, but

some airlines have taken the banked hub concept to an extreme.

Etihad Airways's hub in Abu Dhabi essentially operates with just two big banks a day.

Almost all their fights from the west arrive between 7:00 and 8:30 pm then eastbound flights

depart between 9:30 and 10:30 pm.

Flights coming in from the east land between about 11:30 pm and 12:30 am and then the final

bank of westbound flights departs between 2:00 and 3:30 am.

With this system, almost every flight from Europe or the US can connect to a flight to

Asia or Australia in no more than three hours.

The whole operation also takes about eight and a half hours—perfectly timed for one

work shift.

But of course, however, this leads to a lot of planes sitting around.

Their flight to Hong Kong, for example, departs at 9:50 pm Abu Dhabi time and arrives at 10:05

am Hong Kong time.

The plane then has to sit around until 6:55 pm in order to time it's arrival with the

rest of the westbound bank.

That's almost nine hours of waiting, but in order to schedule flights correctly, its

fairly typical for planes to sit around.

Flights from North to South America are notoriously tricky to schedule.

Sao Paolo, Brazil is only one hour ahead of New York during daylight saving time so southbound

flights tend to leave in the evening and arrive 10 hours later in the morning.

But the tricky part is when the flight should return.

If the flight left at 7 pm and arrived the following morning at 6 am it could turn around

and fly back at 9 am and arrive at 6 pm but the airline doesn't want to do that.

The problem is that airlines rely heavily on connecting traffic to fill their flights

and by the time arriving travelers got off the plane and make it through customs it would

be 7:30 pm at best by which time the majority of flights have left for the night.

Airlines therefore almost universally decide to leave their planes on the ground in South

America all day to fly back overnight so travelers can connect onwards to their final destination

on morning flights.

This is likely part of the reason why flights from North to South America are so expensive.

But some of the airlines have found a way to take advantage of the time on the ground.

Labor is significantly cheaper in South America so airlines have started to perform maintenance

work on planes while they're waiting around for the evening flight back.

American Airlines, for example, recently started building an $100 million hanger in Sao Paolo

to support their maintenance operations there.

Qantas made a similar move to take advantage of time on the ground by opening up an a380

sized maintenance hanger in Los Angeles for their planes that sometimes sit there for

up to 14 hours, but that's not the only trick Qantas has up its sleeves.

Australia is just so isolated that no plane can currently fly non-stop from the country

to the US east coast.

The US west coast, however, is close enough that a plane can make it in a 12-14 hour flight

so Qantas has non-stop flights from Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane to Los Angeles.

The trick is that they are all scheduled to arrive between about 6:00 and 6:30 am then,

at 8:20 AM one of the planes continues on to New York with the passengers booked through.

This is known as a scissor hub.

WestJet airlines operates an even more advanced one in St John's Canada.

They have flights arriving from Orlando, Toronto, and Ottawa all around 9:30-10:00 pm then just

past 11:00 pm their flights to Dublin and London leave.

This way they can fly six routes with just three planes and, even better for them, since

it's only a 4.5 hour flight from St John's to the British Isles they can fly small, inexpensive

single aisle planes transatlantic.

All of these scheduling patterns and tricks serve to help an airline achieve it's ultimate

goal—to maximize revenue.

In this industry, time truly is money since planes cost money and people pay more to fly

faster so few aspects of the business are as important as properly scheduling flights.

If you like spending less time at airports one way is to fly with shorter connections,

but perhaps the easiest way is to use Clear.

I tried them out for myself on a recent trip and the footage speaks for itself.

CLEAR uses biometrics to replace the TSA id check so you always go straight to to either

the PreCheck or regular screening without waiting in line.

As you can see here, it took me exactly one minute and seven seconds to go from walking

in the door of Laguardia to getting into security.

The X-ray was completely backed up with a few people in wheelchairs when I went through

but that's actually a good thing because what I am showing you here is the absolute worst

case scenario—the slowest security with clear will be.

I put my camera in my bag during the screening so the TSA agents wouldn't yell at me but

the timer is still running.

So, even with all that back-up at the x-ray I went from walking through the door to the

gate in seven minutes.

The good news is that the first 200 people to sign up over at clearme.com/wendover get

to speed through airports security at Clear's 24 US airports for free for three months.

That is not a publicly available trial so it's worth signing up while it's available.

Once again, that's clearme.com/wendover for three free months of faster airport security.

Aside from that, please be sure to check out my podcast Showmakers and subscribe to this

channel to get all my future videos right when they come out.

Thanks again for watching and I'll see you in two weeks for another Wendover Productions
