Audi SQ5 2017 review - Duration: 9:50.I'm having a bit of a deja-vu. You may have seen the Mercedes AMG GLC43 video before.
If not, you should. I thought that car was OK, but not my cup of tea.
It turned out to be a fun car.
This Audi SQ5 SUV is fun, but it badly copies the Audi S4 Avant.
It's a taller bad copy. I don't know how to turn this into a saying, but it's taller than an S4.
This doesn't make it better. It's heavier, has a higher center of gravity, more CO2 emissions, etc.
Still, this is a fun car.
It looks good. Look at the SQ5 in this trim.
Two exterior things are the two most expensive options available.
The special Panther Black, exclusive for the Audi SQ5.
This costs over 3,300 euros. The 21 inch rims are 2,170 euros.
That's not so bad. And 2,850 euros extra registration tax for the higher CO2 emissions.
They've gone mad in the Netherlands, but the SQ5 is an awesome car.
Look one more time. Martijn, play some nice music.
Am I right, or am I right? It's a cool car.
It has a 3.0 V6. The sides say it's a V6 T, just like the previous SQ5.
This was correct, because it was a diesel engine. The SQ5 may still get a diesel engine.
The sides of the Audi S5 said the same thing, even though that was a supercharged V6.
This is a new engine from the S4, new S5 Sportback, and new S5.
You know Audi. They'll use it everywhere. That's convenient.
It's a 3.0 with Twin Scroll turbocharger; 349 hp and 500 Nm (369 lb ft) torque.
Yes. The top speed is limited to 250 kph (155 mph).
0-100 kph (62 mph) takes 5.4 seconds. Those were the numbers.
Except for the price, but let's save the price for the end.
This part of the video will be fun and the price comes at the end.
You'll be all enthusiastic before hearing what it costs.
You'll be convinced you want it and just buy it. Fuck it.
I got out to be annoyed by something. This.
It's fake. Do something different. This is stupid.
I expected this. We don't have a screw driver, but I'd like to remove it.
It does sound brilliant, though.
It's amazing, that exhaust. It seems rougher than the S4 and S5 Sportback.
It could be. This is the most intense SQ5 or Q5 we'll see.
quattro GmbH won't make an RS Q5.
This is the 'daddy'.
It sounds good, goes fast, and handles well.
This car has the optional sport differential.
The rear diff can do fantastic things with the locking option.
On dry asphalt. The balance is nice, pushing from behind.
This is no traditional understeered Audi with a heavy nose.
Audi doesn't really have this anymore, but this car corners well.
The quattro system throws a lot of power to the rear, but the Q5's basis is still FWD.
You see a tire track being made in this shot.
One big point of critique on the regular Q5 with 2.0 TFSI...
It's a nice engine, but the powertrain failed because of the transmission.
That was a DSG transmission. Audi calls it S tronic. Dual clutch.
This is a traditional Tiptronic 8-speed automatic transmission.
It works much better. It's not in too high a gear and powerless on roundabouts.
Of course, this car has over 100 hp extra, but still the difference is like night and day.
Please, Audi, throw the S tronic software away.
Use this transmission and software. It works fine.
Let me say something about the Q5 in general.
When I got in I saw it was light and roomy.
The shoulders seem lower than in other cars.
This one has a panoramic roof, so there's much light inside. It's nice.
The only problem with this vehicle concept, a more portent SUV with sport genes,
is that you start driving like an asshole. That's caused by a number of things.
Speed bumps don't matter. It has more ground clearance and air suspension, so you don't feel it.
Someone who messed... I'm not allowed to swear and flip the bird anymore.
I'll do it like this and you know what I mean.
It doesn't matter. You're always faster. You go full throttle through a corner; it doesn't matter.
ESP kicks in. It works. A bit of grass, going offroad, it doesn't matter.
You can't buy this car with not enough money at the Audi dealer. That's a thing.
Prices of the Audi SQ5 (not the Q5) start at 94,000 euros.
You already heard some exterior option prices, such as Panther Black, the rims, and extra tax.
You know this one is over 100,000 euros, more so than you expect.
This car is 123,000 euros with pretty yellow license plates in the Netherlands.
Belgian viewers or whomever else is watching, an SQ5 can be cheaper in your country.
Here, in the Netherlands, it's rather expensive.
Look, there are tracks. You can probably drive down.
We'll do that. - It's high.
Do you think it's possible? - I hope so. Going down is always fine.
Put it in Allroad.
A 2 degree decline. I think it's steeper. 17. - You're not touching the cruise control, right?
The right button. Second on the right.
Easy peasy. - 3.
Park Distance is off. 19 degrees.
Let's get out, because they probably don't like what we're doing.
You can drive this car fast anywhere. Speed bump. Did you see something? I didn't.
We shouldn't take this speed bump with 160 kph (99 mph).
100 kph (62 mph) is fine though.
This car can do everything.

Unexplained Mass Disappearances - Duration: 4:09.The bizarre disappearance of the entire population of Virginia's Roanoke colony in 1588 is one
of America's most legendary unsolved mysteries.
But it's not the only time large groups of people have seemingly vanished from the face
of the Earth.
Here's a look at some of history's weirdest unexplained mass disappearances.
Aztalan Indians
Just outside the small town of Lake Mills in south central Wisconsin lie the remains
of an ancient Native American city.
Named Aztalan by the settlers who discovered the ruins in 1836, the city contained stepped
pyramids, conical mounds, evidence of housing, fishing, and farming, and even a substantial
defensive stockade wall containing up to 30 watchtowers.
At its peak, Aztalan could have housed upwards of 500 people.
But what happened to those people is a mystery.
Sometime after 1300 AD, the site was abandoned, and despite decades of research, nobody knows
why.
Was it because of drought?
Or war?
So far, the fate of the citizens of Aztalan remains unknown.
Roman 9th Legion
In the year 108 AD, an inscription in the northern city of York, England, mentions the
presence of the Roman Ninth Legion, a military unit of around 5,000 soldiers stationed to
protect the city from the wild inhabitants of Scotland.
By the year 122, though, they were gone, replaced by the new Sixth Legion - and no record exists
explaining what happened to the Ninth Legion.
What is known is that around the time of the Ninth Legion's disappearance, the Roman Emperor
Hadrian traveled all the way to northern England to personally oversee the construction of
a gigantic wall across the whole island of Britain to keep northern invaders and raiders
at bay.
Many have theorized that the wall was built in response to the destruction of the Ninth
Legion.
But while Hadrian's Wall still stands today, no sign has ever been found of the final fate
of the missing Ninth Legion.
The population of Great Zimbabwe
The name "Zimbabwe" is an anglicized version of aa Shoan dialect word that means "stone
houses" and it comes from the name of a mysterious city: Great Zimbabwe."
A massive, technologically advanced city, Great Zimbabwe was a center of trade that
was home to roughly 18,000 people at its peak.
Which makes it even more bizarre that nobody knows what happened to any of those people,
who seemingly all vanished mysteriously about 400 years ago.
In fact, it's such a mystery that nobody today knows for sure who even built the city or
who lived there.
All we know for sure is that once, there was a thriving city, and now there are just mysterious
ruins.
Moche Civilization
According to archeological discoveries, the
Moche civilization thrived between the years 1 and 800 AD.
Experts at metal working and irrigation, the Moche also had a thing for human sacrifice
- and for disappearing completely off the face of the Earth.
So what happened to the estimated 25,000 people who belonged to the Moche civilization?
Theories abound, from drought to civil war.
But the only ones who know for sure at the Moche themselves - wherever they went.
5th Battalion Norfolk Regiment
Many legends have sprung up around the fate of the 5th Battalion of the Norfolk Regiment,
a British military unit which joined the Gallipoli campaign in Turkey on August 10, 1915 and
seemingly vanished without a trace just two days later.
According to a dispatch from the battlefield, "They charged into the forest and were lost
to sight or sound.
Not one of them ever came back."
That's weird enough, but 50 years later at a reunion of survivors of the battle, three
soldiers from New Zealand claimed to have witnessed a British battalion get swallowed
up by a cloud, which then disappeared up into the sky.
Those reports have led to decades of speculation that the battalion may have been abducted
by aliens.
Historians believe there's a much more likely answer, of course, claiming the unit was simply
killed by machine gun fire behind enemy lines, where their bodies were unable to be identified
until after the war in 1919.
Still, the firsthand accounts of the battalion's mysterious disappearance have fueled a debate
that still rages today.

Wow … I didn't know that
I would be attending the voiceroid non-game festival.
No one knows the future, either.
Non-game,
This is a festival that doesn't play video games,
so it's a great festival for me who doesn't play games.
So what I prepared was
Yuyu Sequencer!
I think you know only those you know.
Made using vocaloid3 Yukari Yukari,
Like Yuzuki Yukari's trial version?
It is such a program.
As you can see, this is the year 2011.
I brought it with someone I don't know.
Let me explain each part.
First, new button

Please note that the existing song is deleted.
Below that is the Save button
This button is used to save the created song.
By the way.
The latest generation said they don't know what this painting is.

Oh, I heard this story.
Some dad gave baby the toys in the shape of a receiver,
but baby did not react.
He Come to think of it,
kids today think that the phone is shaped
like a square instead of this shape.
Ha ... The years are fas...
Oops, I almost got off the subject.
next Read button
it's a button to read songs.
Please note that the existing song is deleted.
Hint button
It's possible to show or delete hints.
Here are the file buttons
and the score.
Sheet music entering notes
Clicking the desired tune will be entered.
Play button
This button plays the notes recorded on the score.
Stop button
Press the play button to activate.
Measure button
You can move the Measure of the score.
beat button
You can move the 1 beat of the score.
Tempo button
Adjust the speed.
Be careful because the tempo and number used in the actual music are different.
Below is the keyboard
The right side is melody.
The left side is chorus.
It's just checking the tone.
The rabbit mark on the keyboard is a demo button,
You can call up a demo song.
And our cute little Yukari!
We all know well I'll skip the explanation.
And on top of that is the track button
Track 1 is a melody part,
Track 2 is the chorus part.
I'll explain the chorus part later.
So let's make my favorite things
as the title of this video.
I will disappear for a while.
In fact, this song is G major in 3/4 beat.
However, the Yuyu sequencer can only use
4/4 of the time for C major.
But that does not matter.
3/4 or 4/4 Both use quarter notes.
If you input it without ignoring the measure,
3/4 beat songs can be input to the Yuyu sequencer.
Oh, and I'm typing this song into A major.
look. Sharp is full.
In this way, you can express the major.
For reference, the Sharp can be input by clicking
the same note once more.
It's boring so Quickly
my favorite things is a longer piece of music.
but in Yuyu sequencer can only enter 20 bars.
So I'm gon na stop here.
Then adjust the tempo.
Play
little Yukari sang songs.
So let's put in the chorus this time?
you click Track 2, you'll find Yuyu Angels.
Three Yunyangels will sing chords.
there are three people.
looks like Jun, Onn, Lin.
Oh, right.
If you click on these kids ' heads, you can play them.
Oh, cute.
I want to bring them home
Ahem ... Let's stop playing here and enter the code.
It's simple to input.
For example, an F code.
You can press fa to enter. And once again,
it changes to another F code.
Well, I'll get it quick.
Completion
Let's go back to track 1
and play.
you can save it with you copy this code
As I said before, this can be saved.
If I had finished it,
I wouldn't have made this video.
If you have this code,
you can convert it to a vsqx file!
What about this?
look.
If have a vsqx file...
Aoi~
You can use Kotono Sink without Vocaloid!
You can modify the lyrics within the voiceroid
It's possible to
change the lyrics
so you can change
the lyrics as you like
and sing songs.
Well, what do you think?
Hidden use of Yuyu sequencer!
Anyway, if you use this method,
it's more difficult to sing than Vocaloid,
but it's possible to sing with voiceroid.
So let's go back to the Yuyu sequencer.
Ee?
Yukari is dozing off.
Hey, Yukari, wake up.
Cu, cute...
Finally, I'll finish with
singing together.
Thank you for watching.
I...
I...
I want to do it!!!!
Ee?
Why not?

SHINee's Onew is in the midst of a sexual harassment
scandal and was interrogated by police.
The incident occurred late at night on August 12th
at a club in Gangnam, where a mid-20s woman said
Onew touched a part of her body.
He was arrested on the spot
and was interrogated for five hours.
He said he doesn't remember but denied
the allegations. But the victim,
known as Ms. A, had a different story.
Because of the conflicting stories,
a media outlet reported on an eyewitness account.
This is what the eyewitness said.
At 5:30 a.m.,
Onew was extremely drunk, and
at 6:30 a.m., he fell over and made contact
with Ms. A.
At 6:50 a.m., he was sitting on a platform
and touched Ms. A's legs, which was the 2nd contact.
We were able to go the club to question
and hear from someone affiliated there.
It's a very narrow space.
So physical contact is impossible to avoid.
It's so narrow that people fight sometimes.
I couldn't tell from the article,
but seeing this, I understand.
The club, which had flashy lights and was dark,
looks like this.
Ms. A was dancing on top of
the 30cm-high platform.
And Onew was sitting on the chair next to it.
To keep himself steady while drunk,
it's likely that he touched her accidentally.
After the incident, Onew's agency said
the physical contact was not intentional
and the misunderstanding with Ms. A was resolved,
who canceled the lawsuit of her own volition.
However, with sexual harassment, despite
her lawsuit cancellation, he can still be charged.
The police said the situation matches the testimony
and recommended he be prosecuted but not jailed,
and so the investigation began.
SHINee's Onew is popular as an actor and idol.
With the drama he's in set to end,
the controversy is garnering attention.
Ariana Grande has been garnering attention
was a topic of blame for her first concert in Korea.
There was a lot of talk.
(Ariana Grande garnering attention)
Grande was chosen as the pop diva of the world.
As is proving her popularity in Korea,
Ariana Grande's first concert in Korea
sold out within ten minutes.
However, many anticipated fans were highly
disappointed by her performance.
Due to the terror attack in England of last May
as a security measures for the terror attack,
she minimized her time in Korea
and secretly shared her schedule in Korea.
She turned down photographs by reporters.
She arrived in Korea 3 hours before her concert.
Meanwhile, fans waited for 5 hours.
It was ironic because the artist hadn't
even arrived in Korea at that time.
Due to a lack of time, she couldn't rehearse
and uploaded a video of her singing in the bathroom
at the venue, angering online commenters.
The reason the controversy arose is
because of Ariana Grande's $570 VIP tickets,
which she sold herself.
The benefits provided by the ticket were not
delivered because she arrived in Korea late.
The concert started amidst controversy.
Although the controversy was silenced
with her strong voice and killer performance,
perhaps it was because of the lack of rehearsal
or the sound not being smooth, even with such
a huge stage, she performed in a place
with limited space. (Source: Youtube)
After the truth of her leaving Korea at midnight, fans
thought that the Korean show was
just a waypoint of her world tour.
She previously had shows in Japan, but her schedule

It was a real back and forth
about who would be on this mission,
who wouldn't be on this mission.
The Dirty Dozen obviously came to mind.
Everybody has a good reason to hate everybody else.
DAVID BENIOFF: I mean, it's definitely got that,
you know, gathering together these kind of misfits.
A bunch of our favorite characters,
many of whom have never been onscreen together,
but who all find themselves at the end of the world
for one reason or another.
So, getting Tormund back in the picture, The Hound,
and Jon and Beric and Jorah, uh, it's a fun group.
D.B. WEISS: The sequence of it is so well-conceived on a visual level
by Alan and his team.
To do that with hundreds of people and weather
and visual effects and fire, with lots of moving parts
and still... have that sense of artistry about it,
takes a different level of directing it.
ALAN TAYLOR: Three, two, one... action!
TAYLOR: Our story is seven guys on a rock,
being attacked by Whites,
and trying to tell a clear story of...
you know, your task is to defend the perimeter and as you lose,
your perimeter is gonna fall back and fall back.
And how do you kind of hold order
against just pure chaos?
It's, you know, hurting kittens. It's, um... (LAUGHS)
You can't see anything except people whacking each other,
um, and it takes some effort to...
talk to the cast to sort of say, "No. The story is, here's a line
and we have to show that it's not being broken,
or that it is being broken.
It was important to create a situation where you,
I'm hoping, the audience will think
that one of our beloved characters is gonna die.
I mean, we wrote it and we were watching it, and I was thinking,
I was like, "Holy shit! Tormund's gonna die."
But it, somehow, he managed to override my rational brain
and make me think that Tormund was gonna die.
No matter how great your visual effects are,
or your... your art department and everything,
there's just nothing quite like
the real thing, if you can find it.
Iceland exists and it's real and it's cold as hell
and it's beautiful and...
there's just nothing like having that reality onscreen.
WEISS: It doesn't look like anywhere else.
Half the time, it doesn't even look real
and I worry that people are gonna think
the blues of those glaciers are some kind of cheap
special effect.
The more spectacular- looking it is,
the more difficult it is to shoot there.
KIT HARINGTON: I think there's, um...
it's a sort of kick-bollocks scrambleness to...
filming out here where you, you have such limited daylight.
And you have conditions which are like this or worse.
It just gives it a sense of reality, you know.
In the world of Thrones,
it's great coming into these landscapes
that just really kind of... are back in time
and take you to something very, very brutal and barren.
There's an extent to which nothing ever surprises you on this job anymore.
But this, you still can't help but be impressed by this.
I mean, it's nuts.
You can't get to this location without literally monster jeeps.
It's a hell of a way to go to work.
The Icelandic technical crew, setting up the base camp,
have to have everything, uh, ready
and they have to do that, obviously,
under cover of darkness.
So, the crew, when they arrive, everything is ready to go.
BENIOFF: We're shooting the glacier, everyone's got the crampons
strapped onto their boots because otherwise, you'll slip
and, even with the crampons, we had a bunch of guys falling
and banging themselves up,
but luckily no major injuries this year.
TAYLOR: Three, two one, action!
What we had to go through to get the zombie polar bear
was writing the zombie polar bear into every season
of the show for about four seasons.
We thought they'd be so excited to do a zombie bear. And uh...
And it was kind of like, "Oh, my God, they're serious
about doing this fucking zombie bear."
Only to have Bernie and the visual effects guys tell us,
in the nicest possible way,
"Fuck you. We cannot afford a zombie polar bear."
This year made perfect sense
that you could have one of these things out there,
and we really put our four feet down and we said,
"Goddammit, we want a zombie polar bear."
-(GROWLING) -(MAN SCREAMING)
RICHARD BRADSHAW: We looked at some of the, uh, the...
the beats, the way the polar bear...
in the... in the previews that we've got,
how it swats the guys away, how it picks someone up
and shakes him around, um...
and then we get our wires in and start rehearsing with guys,
using different methods to pull some around
and get me the right body shapes and the right energy.
Everything's made sure it's super safe first.
We test everything over and over again, um...
usually with a white badge and when we're happy
that it's safe to have someone on, we get someone on...
-(ZOMBIE POLAR BEAR GROWLING) -(SWORDS CLANGING)
BRADSHAW: We were holding the flaming sword in the jaws of this thing,
so the big guy was able to move the head around,
which was something for our actor on the floor to work against.
I've never really worked with this...
ping pong ball thing and pretend that's a bear and...
I've had people going,
"Oh, when I come towards you, I'm a bear."
No, you're not. (LAUGHS) Your name is Toby.
TAYLOR: And... action!
(ZOMBIE POLAR BEAR WINCING)
Most of the heavy-lifting of the sequence,
that was all in Wolf Hill Quarry in Belfast.
It's one of those things where, you know,
when you film something in another location,
then you're responsible for finishing that location
off somewhere else.
You have to really do your homework and try
and make sure that you match it as best you can
so that then Alan would have an entrance for the characters.
When you stand up on the top and look down,
it was like we were building, I don't know, an airport or something.
The scale of it is enormous.
We built nature. (LAUGHS)
You know, sometimes I walk out there and think we're crazy people.
We had a very tricky time trying to work out
what a frozen lake looks like, and how we can achieve that.
And that went from compacted quarry floor to...
putting concrete down, to nice, flat finish,
and then there had to be hues of color
that were added to that.
Then we had to work out how the ice would look,
trying to make that look three-dimensional,
and as if it was transparent ice.
All these things were really, really tricky.

The amount of workmanship is incredible.

It just looks so real, it's fantastic.
I thought it was a real lake, and then I understood that
they have made this for this sequence.
I-- It blew my mind.
This amount of people...
When... When the camera rolls, everything just sort of
comes together precisely at the right time.
JOE BAUER: Original intention was to dig out the areas on location
where people would need to fall through the ice,
and then it became clear to everyone that probably
the temperatures were gonna be so terribly cold.
We figured out if we use motion control,
then we could achieve it on stage.
When the Whites fall through the ice, we-- we're doing it
as a separate set pieces, and then building rigs
to drop underneath the ice to take away the actors
and then allowing them to drop through.
BAUER: You know, even though we've got ten guys falling in
while the camera is moving, by the time we're finished,
we've got a hundred guys falling in and the camera's moving
five times as far.
Everyone's always like, "Aw, you get to shoot in a tank. Great!"

to have all your adrenaline on a maximum,
so I had to keep pumped up and ready, uh,
in five to ten seconds, and then calm the fuck down very fast.
(LAUGHS)

with a big Norwegian. They were both looking... (SCREAMS)

In season two, the dragon was riding on Dany's shoulder,
and now Dany's riding on the dragon's shoulder.
And when Dany gets on and off the dragon,
it's sort of like wheeling up the stairs to a 747.
We've modelled the dragon and then laser-cut
this full-scale, giant piece of polystyrene to create
a section of the dragon's back that is living
on the island at the frozen lake.
I've got a bit of claiming to do on that contraption,
with a person on my shoulder, and I just thought
I can do it.
Well, I've never flown a dragon before.
I'm sure we're fine. Just hang on.
(GRUNTING)
KULLBACK: This year, things are a little bit beefier.
We have a bigger motion base, we have a bigger bot.
WEISS: It's a lot harder, especially for Emilia.
It's one thing to act in a room with somebody,
and to draw on this-- your considerable resources
as an actor.
It's another thing to have a situation that's
supposed to incorporate the same level of emotion,
but in the most artificial environment
you can possible imagine.
It's the opposite of walking in costume through Iceland.
EMILIA CLARKE: You know, the harder the challenge,
the more I relish it.
But this...
This, really, you're like, "Can I just even maybe have,
like, you know... like a screen...
with, like, clouds or something?"
Like, I've never flown on a dragon!
And to just harness that power. I mean, can you even imagine?
BAUER: The fire column slicing the ice,
we wanted to make sure
that it looked like a cutting torch,
and it's exploding the ice, um, atomizing the ice
immediately, so we worked with Sam's team again,
and when you see it, you know, it really...
is awesome.
(DRAGON WHIMPERING)
(DRAGON GROWLS)
We knew that the Night King would see and seize
this opportunity, and like to think that
when the dragon dies,
that it's kind of a nice 1-2 punch.
Because on the one hand, you're just seeing the horror
of one of those three... The three only unique,
amazing beings like this in the world, uh...
going under the water and not coming up again,
and you're processing that, then you're processing
something that's even worse, which is when it comes
back out from the water again, the eyes of the White Walkers
and the Whites have been such a prominent feature
of the show, and a lot of work has gone into the specifics
of how the eyes look, and...
And to see that hopefully iconic image, at this point,
blown up to the size of, you know, a beach ball,
uh, that seemed like it was an inherently, crowd-pleasingly
"Oh shit!" moment for everybody.

How Fast Can We Go? - Duration: 7:12.Two millennia before the likes of Usain Bolt came onto the scene, humans were pitting their
strength and speed against each other.
It's thought that the first Olympic games were held in 776 BC in ancient Greece, and
the tradition carried on under the Roman Empire.
An Olympic Truce was even established by the Greeks which was expected to be adhered to
so people could spectate and compete in safety.
The 4 year tradition, and in some ways the truce, is upheld today, just with much stronger
and faster people competing.
The closest the ancients had to a vehicle race was with chariots, and you could say
that humanity has significantly improved when it comes to speed on wheels.
Today we are going to look at what speed humans are capable of, in this episode of The Infographics
Show, How Fast Can We Go?
Don't forget to subscribe and click the bell button so that you can be part of our
Notification Squad.
We'll start with our bodies.
Maybe the best of the ancient runners was Leonidas of Rhodes who won three stade, sprint
races, (including the 200 yards and 400 yards) in each of four consecutive Olympics from
164-152 BCE.
The main event was the 200 yards (about 180 meters) which was the equivalent of the modern
100 meters.
He was regarded as the Usain Bolt of today, or the Michael Johnson of not so long ago,
and was even winning races at the ripe old age of 36.
His medal tally was only beaten 2,168 years later by swimmer Michael Phelps.
No one knows of course how fast he ran, but guesses range from 24-26 seconds for 180 meters.
The fastest recorded 100 meters time is held by Usain Bolt at 9.58 seconds, which means
he was running at an average of 10.43 meters per second or 23.34 mph (37.6 kph).
It's thought that at about 68 meters, he hit his fastest speed, which was 12.34 meters
per second or 27.61 mph (44.4 kph).
This is about as fast as any human has ever run, and it's about the speed of a galloping
horse.
We can compare that to one of the earliest recorded sprint records, that of American
sprinter Tom Burke who won the 100 meters at Athens in 1896 in a time of 12 seconds.
While Bolt would be able to outrun a Velociraptor, he would not be able to keep it up for long.
The fastest recorded long distance time was set by Kenyan Dennis Kimetto in 2014.
His time for the marathon was 2 hours 2 minutes and 57 seconds.
This averaged at 4 minutes 41 seconds a mile.
It's thought a sub-2 hour marathon time is on the way, which means running the entire
26.2 miles (42 kilometers) at 13.1 mph (21 kph).
Try that at the gym on the treadmill for even a few hundred meters and you'll see just
how incredible this man is.
The average adult male jogs at about 8.3 mph (13.3 kph), which is a 27 second 100 meters.
Women jog at an average of 6.5 mph (10.4 kph) or a 34 second 100 meters.
It's thought that even fit and healthy non-athlete adults that can run very well will only average
around 15.9 miles per hour (25.5 kph), which would mean a 100 meter time of around 13-14
seconds.
The average healthy human walks at around 3 miles per hour (4.8 kph).
Let's now have a look at swimming.
It's reported that almost half of the world's population can't swim, including 44 percent
of Americans according to the U.S. Red Cross.
Although the report said some people believed they could swim, but weren't able to swim
well enough to be adjudged safe in the water.
The fastest person in the world, ever, is Brazilian César Cielo.
Much has been said about the great Michael Phelps taking on a great white shark in a
race, but in terms of raw speed he's slower than Cielo.
His time of 46.91 seconds in the 100 meters freestyle is the fastest a human has ever
swum, giving him an average speed of about 5.3 mph (8.5 kph).
That's faster than the average jogging speed of the average male.
It's thought Phelps' average speed when he won gold in the 100 meters freestyle relay
was about 4.7 mph (7.5 mph).
The two men are about the same speed as the average cod, but both would get trounced in
a race with a great white shark that can reach speeds of 25 mph (40kph).
The average human that can swim freestyle is a speed of just 2 mph (3.2 kph).
But how fast has a human ever travelled?
That would be astronauts on NASA's Apollo 10 mission when they reached a top speed of
24,791 mph (39,897 kph).
Elon Musk's SpaceX plans to colonize Mars, and to get there they need a fair bit of power.
The rocket which will be used is nicknamed the BFS, and SpaceX says it will reach cruising
speeds of 62,000 mph (99.77 thousand kph).
British Royal Air Force fighter pilot Andy Green holds the world land speed record, set
in 1997.
He got up to 763 mph (1,227 kph) in his Thrust supersonic car in the Black Rock desert, USA.
In 1898 a Frenchman broke the same land speed record in his electric car, reaching a speed
of 39.24 mph (63 kph).
The fastest two wheels have ever gone is 394 mph (634 kph) with the TOP 1 Ack Attack ridden
by Rocky Robinson at the Bonneville Speedway in Utah.
These machines are not built for the road, however, but some road cars and bikes can
reach impressive speeds.
The Bugatti Veyron is listed as the world's fastest road car, able to reach speeds of
268 mph (431 kph) and the fastest thing on two wheels on the road is the Kawasaki Ninja
H2R.
It can reach speeds of 249 mph (400 kph).
The fastest person on a bicycle was Dutch cyclist Fred Rompelberg, who travelled at
a speed of 167 mph (268 kph) in 1995.
As for rail, the winner for the fastest speed is US air force colonel John Stapp, who reached
632 mph (1017 kph) on his rocket sled.
Passenger trains don't get anywhere near that, but some are very fast.
The French TVG has an average speed when taking folks around France of about 200 mph (321
kph), but it also holds the record for the fastest speed ever on a national rail system
of 357 mph (574 kph).
At that speed you could realistically commute from Paris to offices in the UK, Germany,
Spain, and other nations surrounding France.
Japan's magnetically levitated MLX01 maglev has hit a speed of 361 mph (580 kph), but
that was only in testing.
Many countries are presently developing high-speed trains as an alternative to air and road travel.
You'd think the perfect country for such a system would be the United States, given
its size, population, and long distances its citizens often travel.
This is actually a matter of controversy, as an article in Forbes points out in 2017.
There are many reasons, and one is that the U.S. as you'll know from our other shows
spends little on transportation compared to its military.
Andy Kunz, president of the U.S. High Speed Rail Association, once said in an interview
that lobbying efforts Spirit of Australiafrom oil, aviation and highway companies were also
blocking high-speed rail advancement.
Perhaps Elon Musk's Boring Company and its underground Hyperloop project might happen
before high-speed rail.
On water the record was set by Australian Ken Warby in his Spirit of Australia wooden
speedboat, which reached 317.596 mph (511 kph) in 1978.
It's not a record many people try to break as they often end up dead.
Long-time British record holder Donald Campbell was one of those people, and there were many
more.
Record holder Warby told Wired in an interview after he retired, "When you look down that
lake, you better have all your homework done, because your chances are 50-50 – and you
better be in the right 50 percent."
It might be safer to travel by ocean liner.
The fastest was the SS United States, that averaged a speed of 29 mph (62 kph).
The Titanic was a good 8 mph slower.
Finally, we take to the air.
Surprisingly, the record set for a manned aircraft was as far back as 1967.
That was when a hypersonic rocket-powered aircraft called the North American X-15 hit
a speed of 4,520 mph (7,274 kph) with American air force pilot William Knight at the controls.
Passenger jets average a speed of 575 mph (925 kph) but may reach up to about 745 mph
(1198 kph).
The fastest ever passenger plane was the British-French made Concorde, which reached speeds of 1,354
mph (2,180 kph).
A plane called the Baby Boom is set to beat that speed in 2023, but it will be a much
smaller machine.
That's the end of the show today.
