strangely through the Years I have experienced many phases of love for Rotting Christ

A Rotting christ Gig will change your life. No matter how strange you may find this
It happened to me.
The First time i saw them live was truly a unique experience.
Their life perfomance is way ahead from most of the bands out there.
That said, we were talking before this video on what makes this band so unique

We do have all of their CDs but we think its best to just talk about the band instead of presenting and reviewing their albums

That said, i am truly awefull remembering band trivia, date etc. I had to tattoo my daughter's birthdate so i can remember it (Joke)

lets talk on how we were introduced to tis band
You may start first as you have a biggest history with the band. I am kind of a newer fan
I listen to them for less than 10 years now to be honest
Dude you're 12 years old .. How could you have listened to them for more than a decade! lol
My story with the band begins in the early 90's
At the time Rotting christ were among the pioneers for the european black metal scene
they were truly unique
I wasn't into black metal at that time
Due to the band was Greek , they became huge in the Greek underground scene too. All the teenagers were listening to them
to be honest the reason that i wasnt listening to them at that time, was that i was afraid of them
i am not ashame of that
A friend of mine had given me a tape with their music. That dude had contacts with the band though oldscool ordinary mail service
We used to hide money in an envelope and send it to the bands in order for they send us back their cassete demo
I truly started listening to rotting christ from the Triarchy album
What an album!
eventually i want back i enoyed their previous works
Mighty, non serviam
The main reason that i discovered Triarcy was the Greek Metal Hammer Magazine
They used to give compilation CDs with its issue. It was a jewel case cd too. Not some promo paper folded cd as magazines give us nowdays.

In that particular collection i had to listen to Snowing still song. That was it!
It was a kind easy a clean song for rotting christ but i was hooked
I also recall that i had subscribed to an indiferent magazine just to get their subscription gift
You were able to choose from a list of 10 cds your gift. And one of the choices was Triarchy.
Dump move from me ...I could have just bought the CD.
The magazine was not good and to my dissapointment
they did not sent me the proper release of the album but a promo copy with no manual lyrics etc.
Speaking of Triarchy i would like ...

I was saying that Triarchy and their follow up Dead Poem
I was very surprised with those two albums
I was underestimating Greek metal bands.
I could never believe that a Greek band could produce albums with Guitar riffs at that level
I truly dont know what king of Witchery Sakis was under but those albums were full of awesome riffs
From their first works Triarchy is my favourite!
My first contact with the band was not so back
i am sorry for that - Yesterday i called you saying we are doing a christ video

Aealo was the album
A bit before that
a few years before Aealo, they had released Theogonia album
i recall all the XΞΣ tshirts at school
''ΧΞΣ'' is a huge trademark for the band
One of the best selling tshirts in my store
i was too not in black metal at that time
i was not into any king of extreme metal to be honest
The first time i listed to Pleiades in Aealo i was hooked
Those traditional Greek elements of the album stood out for me
Very smart move from Sakis
i Agree. When you try to incorporate such strange to metal music elements, you are playing with fire.
it is a thin line between success and ultimate cheesiness!
Happily Aealo has embraced those elements with genius arrangements and it is a one of a kind album
in deaimonon Vrosis
that awesome mix of heavy metal and their trademark sound
had me experiecing an unpresidented epicness in music
and from that moment they had another New fan. They Won me over
Aealo and Theogonia where the beging of a new succesfull era for the band
They started some kind of a trilogy that ends with ''kata daimona eaytou'' for me
Epicness. I will take note of that
I am trying to find what make them so special
What are the elements that define Rotting Christ
Epicness is one for sure
Mediteranian countries i think are fond to the epic sound generally
I think that one the main reasons that Greeks adored and still do Rotting Christ is that epicness in their sound
They very soon left the classic black metal sound as heard from the Norwegian scene
Their sound has nothing to do with the Northern Black metal Sound
They had many classic Heavy metal elements in their sound from the begining
in adittion with the black metal trademark sounds
So epicness, heavy metal elements....

and above all they are Dark

there is always a chance for him to see this video some day
Rotting christ are from those
very few bands . Which nowdays for me are fewer and fewer
They are a band that whatever they choose to play , however their style may change
You will Recognize them immediately
That is Personality
If you look back at their catalogue
they have changed and played with their sound a lot
from True black to the unique sound of Triarchy.
I cannot think of any other album sounding like this
Classic metal, goth elements
atmoshairic perior for metal in the 90s
they embraced that trend very well in their sound
They even played with industrial elements along the way
I remember loving the huge change from triarchy to the more gothy sound of Dead Poem
At that time i have to tell you that Dead poem was a bit controversial for their fan base
True die hard Black metal fans they had started bitching
even from the Triarchy album
Dead Poem was a huge shock for them
they were accusing the band for sold out to the big corporate Century Media
Despite tha nowdays Global and Total respect we all have for this band
That wasn't always the case. Only Sakis knows the stragle to succeed and overcome all those obstacles
There is no reason for us to congratulate Sakis for his work
They kept the Greek Metal Scene alive in difficult times
True, Sakis doen't own us nothing
His vision and his hard work made them what they are today. His Hard work
True artist with passion for his creative vision
He never stopped trying ...never
With many personal sacrifices along the way
That is why they are around from the late 80s
Signing a contract with Century media i think was a bless for them
Century Media in the 90s was huge
Nothing to do with todays Century media
If you were a Century media band
you automaticly had huge awareness in the metal scene
Despite that , i have heard that their contract with them
was far from ideal for Rotting Christ
Sakis has stated that he just signed . He never realized that he had to make 6 album in the next 10 years
pretty demanding contract
Nevertheless i think that in the end Century help them
And i dont think that they were pushed for those albums. All the Century Media albums are great
The biggest benefit from that collaboration i think is that they made them Professionals
Shame on me drinking coke when talking about RC

True, they were the 1st greek band to ever record an album abroad
i cant recall the name of the studio they recorded Triarchy but its was huge and big deal at that time
Sakis for the first time word with renowned producers and sound engineers
In Greece in the 90s, studios
were a joke for producing metal sound
they just couldn't
first album recorded abroad was Triarchy
and they were sick of measles if you remember...with fever and all that...they almost died
they return to make an album solely in Greece many years later with
2007's Sanctus Diavolos
They kinda collabborated with Septic Flesh at that album
Antoniou help them with the recording
They help them with the layout too
at that time all greek covers had this artstyle!
In similar variations
Sanctus diavolos for me
is a very underrated album
it was the step needed for the great success that followed
i love this album
its is known for the hit ''Athanati este''
this song for Rotting Christ is what Fear of the Dark is for Maiden
Classic in their lives
Doctrine and tha last one Sanctus Diavolus
that choir in the last one...

What is the album that stood for you the most?
Can't really answer
i love them all
i could tell yoy the album that i ve heard the less and that is Kronos
to my shame i never got ''Sleep of the angels'' at release
i felt and understand the album a few years later
although my first impressions it is nowhere worst than Dead Poem as i originally believed
I was walking at Syntagma Athens with my Mp3 player
and suddently....Witchery Happens
Sleep of the angels just ''spoke to me''
i even told to my self ..why where you listening to this awesomeness before...

There are some time that your emotions align with the music and the artists vision
That is what happened
justice was served then
But Khronos is my least played album
Passage Non serviam and my contract generally are nit my cup of tea
althought the all have at least 2-3 killer songs that i love
Mighty Contract is in every respected list with the best black metal albums
those albums suffered a little from the production i think.
My most played album, rember that i am a newer fan of the band,
is ''Kata Daimona Eaytou''

i think you understand why i played this album so much
Rotting christ is that kind of a band that has many great records
they don't have any true weak release
even though my least played is Genesis
I love Genesis
In Genesis you could find the first track in which Sakis is trying clean vocals
i love tha cult english accent of sakis in this album
Theogonia Aelo And Kata Daimona are my favs
I also love Rituals
Glad at that tour i met the band and had a talk with them
i am guilt of not understanding ritual from the beginning
it was a Grower. I now love it
Although i miss the riffing in this album
its like the whole album is one riff
that is because i think Sakis shows his respect for Celtic Frost
As we grow old we tend to show love to things we loved in our past
True Sakis loves Celtic Frost
We have to state that RC nevered feared of change
Congrats on that
they played and incorporated many elements in their sound
that fearless try to alternate their vision i this is what kept them alive and fresh all those years
Many bands started with them and they failed in the test of time
The true key to this was that any change in their sound was never forced.
It came naturally with the years
You yourself said that only a few years later you show respect for sleep. When not forced a good album is a good album
and time will come that you will enjoy it!
with the years you change ...your taste in music changes and most of the time it becomes richer
they dont have any bad album
One think that i admire in Sakis
is that he does create music on popular demand
for years now many ask him to return to the former sound
He just ignores them...and he is following his vision
That would be a disaster. Saki dont do it
when you are 45 i dont find it wise to try to become 18 again..i just dont like it
you cant recreate your youth and the feelings you had at that time
Black Metal in the 90s was THE SHIT. True underground. This cannot happen again.

I am very curious for their next album
i think that ritual was the second side of Kata daimona.
I cannot imagine where they will travel us with their music
Actualy Rituals is the continuation of ΧΞΣ. The last track from ''kata Daimona''

I think we should mention that the name of the band was kind of controversial in the band career
We are now used of it
but at the time it was kind of extreme, and that was the purpose i suppose
also have in mind that you hear differently the name rotting christ if English is your native language.
its different when you are Greek

But i guess its was the whole package with Black Metal
it had to be controversial
its a two edged coin i thing...it help them but i thing it was an obstacle too

They are already a huge act abroad so i think they overcame it
they have played everywhere in the world
and i don't exaggerate on this
they have bleed on stage...they live on stage
their shows are more than awesome
you may hear them on cd and still dont get it...Why people respect this band so much?
Make a favour to yourself and see them live
You will not regret it! I promise
