hello dog lovers my name is Saro I'm a dog trainer and I coach dog owners if

miss my future video so in today's video I'm gonna teach you the basics of how to
teach our dogs the recall command this is very basic this is the beginning of
teaching your dogs to come to you and today we have Joanie joining is gonna
join us today to show and demo the command with us so what you're going to
need is is going to be a collar just a regular collar or a harness and a
six-foot leash it's good to get a six-foot leash
because this is a good distance to start practicing this command so the recall
command the dog will start on the sit command so the dog is going to be on
sit you're gonna attach the leash to the dog on a six-foot leash so the commands
of sit and stay are prerequisite to this recall command so if you want to teach
your dog how to sit I have a video that I'm gonna link it over here go ahead and
take a look at that video and then come back here so this is the place that
you're gonna start practicing first of all at home not at the park not on the
street not anywhere else just at your living room the second thing is you're
gonna have to leash your dog and practice it with a leash first don't off leash
your dog and then ask your dog to come to you you don't want to make mistakes
for the recall command I'm gonna link the other video that I talked about what
not to do when it comes to recall right so now that you have watched those
videos and you're ready to go with the recall command so we're going to ask
your dog to sit and then stay then we're going to teach our dog to come so we're
going to ask I'm gonna ask Joanie to sit Joanie is going to sit
we're going to tell her to stay and I'm gonna go about half way of the leash
which is three feet and then I'm gonna ask Joanie to come to me Joanie come
good girl yes I'm gonna pet her I'm gonna share affection with her because
she came to me so I'm gonna practice it one more time
Joanie sit good girl I'm gonna go again halfway of the leash I'm gonna call her
to come Joanie come Joanie sit good girl good girl yes when I'm over now after
you have practiced about maybe fifty or hundred repetitions of the same of
halfway of the leash then you're gonna go to the next level which is Joanie
sit Joanie stay and I'm gonna go all the way to the end of the leash so this
is almost the end of the leash and then I'm gonna ask her to come so Joanie come
good yeah good good good said yes good girl especially that you have it if you
have a golden should be easy yes this way it should be the goldens always want
to come to you there are some breeds and some dogs that they don't want to really
come to you but you have to work on the relationship itself so Joanie one more
time let's do it I'm gonna go to the end of the leash I'm gonna ask Joanie to
come Joanie come yes so this is the very basic of training our dogs to come so we
practice it we teach it on the leash repeat this maybe 500 times before we go
to the next level which is you know making the leash longer and longer than
practicing in different locations and in different scenarios
different angles and different situations so that's the basics of
teaching our dog the recall command just practice that just you keep your dog on
leash and ask your dog to sit and then come to you and just praise and give that
affection to your dog and share that affection with your dog and enjoy those
