Once upon a time, there was an old man and an old woman in a village.

The compassionate old man had a sparrow.

One day, the sparrow pecked at some rice glue the old woman made.

"You greedy bird!"

The old woman was furious and grabbed the sparrow and cut its tongue.

SNIP!

"Chirp, Chirp, Chirp!"

The sparrow cried and flew away into the bushes.

The old man came home some time later and looked for his sparrow.

"Dear, have you seen my sparrow?"

"Well, that sparrow was bad. It ate my rice glue so I cut its tongue off with scissors."

"Oh no! Poor sparrow."

The old man was very worried about the sparrow.

'Is it OK? Can it eat? I have to see it.'

The old man went to look for the sparrow in the bushes.

"Hello, hello, where is my sparrow?"

Then the old man heard

"chirp,"chirp, chirp."

"Sir, here, here. I'm right here. "

All of sudden many sparrows came out of the bushes.

Here it is!

The tongue-cut sparrow was among them.

"I am so sorry. You must have been scared. How's your tongue? Let me see… well, not bad."

The old man was relieved after checking its tongue.

"Thank you, sir. Please have a rest at our house."

The old man was brought to the sparrow's house.

At their house, the sparrows prepared delicious food and showed him their dance.

The old man had fun with the sparrows' hospitality.

"Well, I'd better go now. It'll be getting dark soon. Thank you all."

As he was leaving their house,

the sparrows brought a big wicker basket and a small one.

"Sir, this is a present from us. Please take whichever one you like." said the sparrows.

"Oh, thank you. I am too old to carry the big basket. I'll take the small one."

He carried the small basket on his shoulder and went home.

Coming back to his home, the old man opened the small wicker basket.

There were gold coins, jewelry, coral, and other precious treasures in the small basket.

They were presents to the old man from the sparrows for his kindness.

"Wow! You got such precious treasures. I want some, too."

The old woman looked into the small basket with jealousy.

"Well, I should go and get some, too."

The old woman headed for the sparrows.

And she went into their house without asking.

"I don't need food or dance. Bring the basket right now, hurry up."

She ordered the sparrows who were scared by her voice.

"Yes, ma'am. Which one would you like? Big or small?"

"Of course big; the big basket!"

The old woman took the big basket without even thanking them, and hurried to her home.

'What a heavy basket this is. It must have a lot of treasures inside.'

She was almost home but couldn't wait to see inside.

'Let's see what's inside?'

She put down the big basket on the road .

'Must be a lot of gold coins. Wait? What is this?'

""Yeow!""

She screamed.

Instead of treasures,

the basket was full of centipedes, bees, snakes and horrifying monsters.

""Help! Help!""

The old woman ran for her life.

Finally, she got home and told the old man while gasping for breath.

""Listen, think about what you did.

You cut that sparrow's tongue and were greedy.

You deserve what you got.""

""Be kind to all creatures and share with others.""

The old man admonished her not to do it again.

Hey everybody, this is Egbert. Thanks for watching my newest vlog. I am Originally from the Netherlands. Lived there for 26 years.

I moved 4 years ago from the Netherlands to the USA.

The first day that I arrived I already saw a lot of differences between the Dutch and US culture.

I like to talk about that today. One of the first things I noticed was the way of greeting eachother.

In the Netherlands you give somebody 3 kisses...

But in the USA, people give eachother hugs.

You are my sweetest buddy!

Second thing I noticed in the USA is the hospitality in bars and restaurants.

In the Netherlands you feel like an intruder sometimes. Here in the USA they are very welcoming.

They will assign you to a table, they will give you refills when you order soda.

They try to serve you as good as possible to receive a decent tip since their salary is very low.

In the Netherlands they just round up the cost.

In the USA you tip between the 15 and 20 percent.

Difference number 3 is swearing. I noticed that it's rare when an American swears.

Sometimes you will hear it, but that's very rare.

It is a lot more common in the Netherlands to use swear words in sentences.

Especially the words *bleep* and *bleep*.

Americans do swear, but they use alternative swear words.

Example: "Shut the front door" or "Mother Trucker"

That means: *bleep* and *bleep*.

Difference number 4 is internet banking. I think this is one of the most bizar things.

You have to buy checks to send money to somebody else. This is what they did a long time ago at the Netherlands. Very old fashioned.

There is a possibility to do internet banking at the USA, but the bank will still send a check to the other person.

So it will never go fully online.

At last, this is an interesting difference. A lot of people (outside the USA) think that Americans are superficially.

Especially when they give compliments. I also thought, are these compliments real?

If they give a compliment, it is a real compliment.

Yes, they are sometimes theatrical while they give compliments, but they mean what they say.

But there is not a lot of criticism.

Dutch people give compliments, but they also like to give some criticism. Criticism is more rare in the USA.
