Thanks to them !
Hello YouTube and welcome to this new video !
Today I'm very glad to finally be able to make a video about the M4A1 DAS from GBLS
You might have noticed that exceptionally I used a more or less clickbait title for this video
I didn't want you to just think "oh, another new M4" if you saw the thumbnail on your YouTube main page or something
In this case, I truly believe that this gun is worth a bit consideration
Since images are worth a 1000 words, I'll show you now a short firing sequence with the gun
So, what did you just see ?
If I had to tell using just a few words, I'd say you have seen an AEG which feels like a GBBR
I guess it's the most simple way to describe this gun : it's a GBBR using a battery
Well, it's not a GBBR at all, it doesn't use gas, but the way you handle it and the way it feels really makes you think it could be a GBBR
When you arm the gun, you have an actual bolt carrier going in the rear
You put an empty mag and you pull the charging handle : the bolt stays blocked to the rear as well
You have a functionnal bolt catch which actually allows you to send the bolt carrier back to its place
Yet, it's really a gun which works with a battery
On a strictly technological point of view I think it's awesome : you have the best from the 2 systems
You get the realism and sensations from using a GBBR but you also have the advantages of an AEG
Power stability (the FPS are very consistent as we'll see in the shooting video)
Obviously you have no cool down and the gun shouldn't suffer from cold temperatures or humidity
The magazines contain more bbs than a typical GBBR mag
I'm not sure how many exactly, I would say around 45 bbs per magazine
It's not very high but it's still a bit more
You have stability when you shoot full auto ; you can empty a whole mag in one burst with no problem
So, how does it work ? Let's see what is inside
The disassembly is quite realistic, you remove the magazine, you push this pin which allows you to break the gun in two
You remove the bolt carrier and charging handle
I will separate the upper as well
The bottom part looks like a gear box while the upper part really looks like a GBBR bolt carrier
But if you watch under it, you can see a pneumatic system, pretty much like any spring powered airsoft gun
There is a piston with a spring here, a cylinder
So, what happens when you use the gun
When you press the trigger, you move the sear here
When the gun is armed, it releases the piston which is tensed to the rear of the bolt carrier
The piston goes forward, pushed by the spring, and goes through the cylinder inside which pushes the air inside
The air goes through the nozzle and pushes the bbs inside the hop up unit through the inner barrel
Then, the sector gear (or what looks like a sector gear at least) moves the whole bolt carrier to the rear
The piston is rearmed
When the bolt carrier is in the back, the spring inside the stock tube pushes the bolt carrier forward
It catches a bbs from the magazine and pushes it to the hop up unit, and here it is
In the end it feels quite simple, wondering why this kind of system didn't exist before
Let's look at the hop up unit now
I'll zoom in a bit
Note the hole below the hop up unit ? This is how you adjust the hop up
The gun comes with a long alen key, a bit like VFC GBBR
And with the rod, you can adjust the hop up
It's not the easiest hop up to adjust in the world since you have to remove the bolt carrier, but it's doable
Note that the hop up unit is proprietary, but the hop up rubber and inner barrel are AEG type
We saw that there is a spring to tense inside the bolt carrier, which means that when the gun isn't armed, the charging handle is hard to pull
You need some strength to pull it back
Once it's armed though, it's easy to pull
Actually, it's possible to use the gun without a battery
It works exactly like a spring, you shoot and rearm the gun each time
Probably not very useful but well, it's possible
Now I'll show you the wire ; you put the battery inside the stock (not inside the stock tube since it's used by the mechanism of the gun)
For a reason I can't explain, they put a mini deans connector inside
I have no idea why ; indeed you don't get a lot of room for the battery but you still have enough room for some large deans
I use the gun with this G&P 11.1V battery 1200 mAh with mini deans, obviously
If possible I always try to show the guns in my videos just as they come from the box
But once I finished the videos, I'll probably change it for a large deans connector
And here is how it looks like with a battery
Awesome ! I really like it
Let's look at the trigger now
The trigger is actually a bit particular
The first travel is really short
The wall is quite hard, you really have to pull the trigger hard (I'd say at least 3 kg)
There is almost no over travel, I can't pull the trigger more than that
Trigger reset now, note the click
The trigger is quite hard, which is realistic I guess but it makes it tiring to use after a few shots
Also, you have a trigger reset, but the feeling you get from it is... Well... Peculiar
It's still reasonnably realistic, but it's not the greatest quality of this gun
In comparison, a VFC GBBR has a better trigger feeling
A bit full auto now...
The rate of fire isn't high, I saw with the chrony it's like 11 bbs per sec
But since a lot of things happen when a bbs is fired it doesn't feel weak and full auto is still a lot of fun
Yet, if the ROF was just a bit higher, if the cycle was just a bit more nervous, I wouldn't mind
I actually wonder if with a large deans connector it wouldn't be just a bit better
The cycle is nice, but maybe just a tad slow compared to a GBBR
Now let's look at the gun itself ; on a look point of view it's a full metal M4A1
Note the PTS grip, they didn't put a basic M4 grip for some reason
You get markings on the receiver, unrealistic ones... For the price I would have prefer engraved markings
Very basic hand guard...
Note there is no sling mount, I would have liked some around the stock tube
Now let's look at the magazine
The magazines are proprietary, obviously, they look a bit like Systema PTW magazines, especially regarding the lips
Oh, a very good point : the gun is sold with a bb loader adapter
It gives you the exact right angle in order to push the bbs inside the magazine, which can be hard to find by yourself
With this adapter it's very easy to load the magazines, which is great
Now I'd like to talk a bit about the "history" of my gun
GBLS might be a brand you don't know, which makes sense since this gun is the first and only product they do for now I believe
GBLS is a south Korean airsoft brand, which is unusual, in general Asian airsoft brands are Taiwanese, Japanese or from Hong Kong...
In the begining of the video I was saying that I'm glad to "finally" be able to make a video of this gun
That's because technically, I owned this gun since january 2017
If you're a subscriber of a lot of airsoft channels, mostly English speaking ones, you might have seen this gun already
In the begining of the year a lot of videos of this gun have been made
Notably from Brain Exploder (I love this channel, go subscribe to it if you haven't already !)
You also had videos from Matt The Musketeer and Airsoft Mike, notably
I was among the happy few who got this gun from GBLS but so far I didn't make video of this gun
The reason being that the model I had was really not working well
Actually, I sent this gun 2 times back to GBLS already
And to be honest a few months ago I was a bit skeptical about this gun
But since I received the upgraded version of this gun in the end of september, I'm really enthusiasted by this gun
They really managed to make the gun more reliable than before and the shooting performances have been greatly increased as well
Now I really want to test this gun on the field, I really believe it's going to be a lot of fun to use
So, there is a detail I didn't talk about for now... On purpose, I wanted to keep it for the end of the video
It's the price of this particular model, which is... 2500 USD
I let a few seconds so you can digest the information
The price is frankly ridiculous, I'm not even afraid to use this word
That being said, there is a few things to say regarding the price
First, this is a limited edition, there is only 300 models, it's actually written on the box I kept
With this limited edition, you get 6 magazines
Some would say that considering the price, getting some magazines is the least they can do indeed
Obviously, a lot of R&D has been made on this gun, they have been working on it for years, it's not a copy of something already existing
They started from scratch to make this gun, at least as far as I can tell, so it makes sense that you have to pay for this
Also, and I think it's the most important point : I think the price is high in order to not sell too much guns for now
It seems paradoxal, but for now I think GBLS is still testing and improwing the gun and they need feedbacks from players for that
It also explains why we have been a few to get the gun for free : they need to know what works and what doesn't work with the gun for now so they can make upgrades
As I was saying my own model has been sent back 2 times already to GBLS
At first the gun was really not working well and now it works flawlessly
The thing is that if you're really motivated by the gun you can buy it now and get a lifetime warranty
Which not only means that if something breaks in your gun you get it repaired from GBLS
But it also means that when GBLS comes with upgraded parts, they take your gun back and install the parts for free
So far they paid everything for me, including the shipment (for both time I sent back the gun)
So, the gun is really expensive for now, but I think it's mostly because they're still working on it for now
I believe that later, they will make a non limited model, which will be mass produced and obviously less expensive
I guess it will still be expensive, like between 1000 to 1500 USD, but it will still be much more affordable than the actual 2500 USD for the limited edition
Here it is, I guess I said everything I had to say about this gun
I said it several time during the video, I'm saying it once more : I'm really enthusiasted by this gun
This kind of technology is exactly what I'm looking for in airsoft
It's reliable (at least on paper) and a lot of fun to use
You never saw HPA type of guns on my channel because I really don't care about those systems
Maximum accuracy, maximum range and stuff are a good thing for sure, but I never really cared about those
What I do care about is the feelings I get when I use the gun, which explains why I love EBBR
And with this gun you really get the best from the AEG (reliability, stability, lighter magazines...) and the GBBR (realistic manipulation, kick...)
This gun feels a bit like the missing link between AEG and GBBR to me
I sincerely hope that GBLS will manage to make it a success and that this type of gun will become more common
Hopefully if it works the price will lower and it will be accessible for more and more players
I was skeptical about the gun a few months ago but now that I have a very usable version... I just love it
I hope I somehow still manage to be reasonnably objective about this gun, but I don't want to hide that I'm truly enthusiasted about it
Of course I'll make a shooting video of the gun, we'll see more in detail the kick, accuracy, range...
Maybe I'll try, exceptionnally, to make a shooting test on longer distances so we can see what is the max range of the gun
We'll see the power, slow motions of the kick... Etc etc
Thanks for watching this video, see you next time for the shooting video of the M4A1 DAS by GBLS !
