AYS Daily Growth Hacks 149 ANTS - Duration: 7:26.

Today's topic?

ANTS.

Hi I'm Doug Holt author of Your Own Story, and this is your daily growth hack where each

day we give you a tip, trick, or insight to help you up-level what we call the five to

thrive.

As your mind, your body, your soul, and your relationship, and your business.

So what the heck do I mean by ANTS?

Well ANTS is simply an acronym for Automatic Negative Thoughts.

Now these are the thoughts that go on in our heads subconsciously when we're driving, you

know, taking a shower, or having a conversation with somebody and then all of a sudden you

start remembering things from the past or you start thinking things, "Well jeez does

this person think I'm not smart enough?

I'm not good enough.

I'm not rich enough."

Whatever it may be.

They happen automatically.

So think of your mind, your mind is a supercomputer.

And you know this is true.

But what runs that supercomputer is your software.

And your thoughts are your software, and so the key here is making sure that your software

is running efficiently, smoothly, and is updated with the latest firmware.

And so what I mean by that, oftentimes the software we run, the programming, or the way

that we see things in our world are actually from childhood.

It can be from high school and adolescence, but oftentimes they start even younger.

And this could be something like a parent saying, "You shouldn't cry."

And then you become very stoic, or it could be somebody saying, "Sports, soccer, you're

not that good.

You shouldn't be playing," and then the rest of your life you have this programming, like,

"I'm not good enough."

And that's constantly running in your mind as you're doing things.

Now, ironically, this happens with a lot of high performing people.

They have these ANTS.

And these ANTS are things that actually cause them to actually achieve, because these negative

thoughts come up and they think, "Oh I'm gonna crush this."

Now what they haven't done, or many of them haven't done, is actually get rid of the ANTS.

Just get rid of them.

And so there's ways that you wanna do this, there's ways you wanna get rid of these automatic

negative thoughts.

So one way, and we talked about this in a previous daily growth act, is as soon as you

recognize an ANT, or an Automatic Negative Thought, I want you to count to five backward.

So you have a thought, come up, and just go five four three two one.

And then replace that negative thought with something that's better.

Something that serves you.

And that's the important thing right now.

Because walking around and having a thought of "I'm not good enough," for example.

Or "I'm not smart enough to own my own business."

Or "to go out and be an author of my own story."

What that does is that's gonna limit you, so each time you hit a barrier you're gonna

say, "Well of course, I'm not smart enough and that's why I didn't do that," or "That's

why I wasn't able to achieve," or "That's why I wasn't able to travel like Doug is doing

right now."

So when you have those negative thoughts with something that does serve you.

'Cause the truth is, is you are smart enough.

You know what, you're living in an age where we have technology, we have resources, and

right now if you are listening to this or watching me on video, you actually have a

resource that most people didn't have previously.

And you're smart enough to access that resource, and that's great.

So with these ANTS, you're gonna go ahead and come up with something positive.

So, again, "I'm not smart enough."

Now, come up with at least five reasons that you are.

Five things, right now.

I'm able to utilize and leverage technology, that's a big one.

Good job.

I'm able to hear, listen, and focus, that's another one.

So come up with five things that actually justify why you are smart.

I know you can come up with those.

And so then what I want you to do is take it to another level, and use the work.

The work is an actual great thing, it's called the Judge my Neighbor worksheet.

The Judge my Neighbor worksheet is something that was done by Byron Katy and I highly recommend

checking it out.

A simple worksheet that goes through that, and you can do that on yourself, and it's

really important to get rid of these ANTS and replace them with positive thoughts that

allow you really to up-level and become the author of your own story.

Now I highly recommend, grab your journal right now, write out your five to thrive,

your mind, your body, your soul, your relationships, and your business.

We use this again 'cause it's a holistic representation of you as a person, and what's going on in

your world.

Now in each of these categories, I wanna have you write down something you know is a negative

thought, something that comes up.

So again for mind it could be, "I'm not smart enough."

For body it could be, "I'm too fat."

For soul it could be, "I don't have the ability to mediate."

For relationships it could be, "I just always date the wrong people."

For business it could be something like, "I just never seem to make enough money."

Right, those are just examples.

Common ones that I hear all the time.

Now if you can't come up with them, ask a loved one, a spouse, a significant other of

some sort, a family member, someone who knows you really well, a friend, a coworker, and

ask them, "What are the things that you say all the time?"

Now, with full disclosure, and I've shared this before, one that my wife helped me point

out was just, I always say, "I'm tired.

Whew, so tired I'm running all these companies.

We're traveling all the time, taking care of the family.

And playing a lot, and I'm just always tired."

And what I found when she put that out to me, is I had that ANT, right?

That Automatic Negative Thought come up probably 20 to 30 times in a day, it was crazy.

Blew my mind.

I would have said, maybe I say it a couple times a week.

But when I actually paid attention, I realized I was saying this about 20 to 30 times a day.

And since then, what I've realized is the more I said it, the more tired I got.

It was really weird, I lived into what I was saying.

And so, it's the same thing with you.

I changed that.

I have more energy.

I always have enough energy and abundance in my life, that allows me to do those things

that I wanna do.

Because, you know, really, I asked myself, Look if I'm tired and I won the lottery right

now, if someone came up and said, "Hey you just won the lottery.

You just won a hundred million dollars, Doug," I would be jumping up and down, celebrating

'cause of all the things that I could do for other people, people that I love, then that

means I have enough energy.

Wow, okay, so that Automatic Negative Thought was just a limiting belief.

And I wanna make sure you're able to erase those.

So that's just an example of something that I dealt with and I'm still trying to work

through right now to reprogram my supercomputer.

And I wanna help you do the same.

So do that exercise.

Never leave the site of a decision or an insight without actually taking action right away.

So you're driving in the car, if you're watching this and you can't actually do the work, so

to speak, do one thing.

Record a voice memo, actually write something down in your iPhone.

Whatever it may be for you, make sure you take action, schedule it in the calendar to

take action, whatever it is.

And of course, share this with three people.

By sharing this with three people, you're gonna have accountability partners or other

people within your realm.

Your circle of influence are gonna help you grow, at the same time you're gonna help them

as well.

So I don't take this lightly, make sure you're sharing this with at least three people right

here, right now.

That's it for me today, remember go to Authorofyourownstory.com where you can get your latest tips, tricks,

and insights right to your inbox as well as the special features that we're rolling out.

I wanna make sure you have access to those because as soon as we roll them out, most

of them we're only giving them a one week window where they'll be free and available,

and then we're putting it actually to our private groups, those members only.

So I wanna make sure you have it free, so only with the email will you have the notice

of when that's the week so you can actually utilize it, help you become the author of

your own story.

Have a great day.

How To Become A More Effective Leader In Your Business - Duration: 11:55.

Well it is a rainy miserable day here in Toronto, so I've got my tea and a fluffy sweater

And I'm all set up for a cozy chat

I want to get

personal and shares three ways I've become a more effective leader in my business to help you feel more boss in yours

too.

Whether you lead a team

Or you just lead yourself your business needs you to be organised,

motivated and communicating at the highest level in order to grow effectively.

That's a lot of pressure, and it could take a real tool with these tips. Let's ameliorate that!

My first tip is to learn about your personality type.

So if you've never done a myers-briggs personality test before I recommend taking 15 minutes to do one this week.

You can access a free version of the test online and I'll link that below.

Now be sure to enter the questions thoughtfully and honestly even if you don't like the answers.

It's a great way to gain insight into your natural leadership style and to assess which aspects of your personality are assets

and which might be liabilities. As you pursue your life and work goals, knowing who you are and being able to articulate that

is what underpins our ability to get the best out of ourselves and others... right?

I mean, life is hard enough

sSo we might as well play to our strengths and find clever people or strategies who can help mitigate our weaknesses.

And we have to think about what kind of work we want to do based on our personalities

And what kind of success we want to enjoy based on the things that actually light us up.

Now, as it turns out,

I am an ENTJ

Aka The Commander. Only 1% of women and 2% of men on earth are

estimated to share this personality type and from reading the eerily accurate

description, that's probably a good thing.

Napoleon was an ENTJ.

And apparently so we're Margaret Thatcher and Steve Jobs. hmm

Well, here's what I discovered:

ENT j's are direct and enthusiastic communicators

With a clear idea of what needs to be done and take-charge attitude

towards organising people and projects.

We are strategic in our thinking and confident in communicating our vision.

We are most interested in how our best ideas can be implemented in a logical task oriented way.

So, what's the upshot of all that well in my case?

I'm far more energised by big-picture thinking than by actually floating through the nitty-gritty steps of implementing those plans...

and that makes sense. It's why I build courses and consult for clients... Because I love

analyzing brands websites and social feeds.

But if I actually had to spend my days fixing those websites and sourcing and scheduling all your posts, I would hate it.

When I have too many little tasks on my plate

it makes me feel frazzled and fractured which is not productive.

I need a fair bit of white space in order to play to my greatest strengths which is organizing a team or

figuring out efficiency hacks that I can use to get all that stuff done and get back to more conceptual work.

The point of

understanding your personality type is to recognise your strengths and communicate them

aka

Unlock your superpower.

See, understanding your personality's

strengths helps you to do just that. Your superpower is the thing that makes you really good at what you do.

It's what sets you, your business, and the products or services that you've designed

or curated apart from anything else out there in the marketplace and

there's obviously huge power and being able to articulate what that is. If you have a branded philosophy that informs

how you communicate what you do make and sell there can be no competition.

Because no one else in your industry will be able to approach what you do in that same way.

My superpower is that I'm great at analysing ideas seen patterns and

formulating long term plans to move my goals or the goals of my clients forward.

Part of that is that I see flaws and ideas and plans quickly and I feel very comfortable of giving my critiques freely.

When I do that of course I'm trying to be helpful because

I think I'm smart, and I do a lot of research and deep thinking about the things that interest me,

and I have a valuable insights that I believe are useful to share.

Now your superpower might be that you're open minded and able to use

or to see things from unconventional perspectives that allow you to connect far-flung dots into a single theme. Or

Maybe you are meticulous patient and excel at taking a steady approach to accomplish end goals.

Whatever strengths you bring to the table

celebrate them in your work

celebrate them in your brand and

create a working culture that's more productive for you that

draws compatible people to the business that you're creating.

Compensating for your weaknesses is just as important as calling out your strengths. Now obviously

projecting our strengths is important

but so is having insight into how certain aspects of our personalities can hamper our ability to communicate effectively

with our customers and our teams.

After all it only makes sense to compensate for the ways we tend to get in the way of our best intentions.

In my case I love teaching, but I need to be aware that

my focus on strategic planning and tendency to set

ambitious goals can make other people feel inadequate or disheartened.

It's not my intention

But I know I've done it before see I've had to learn to offer more positive feedback alongside my critiques.

I've also had to learn how to simplify the way I talk about big picture strategy and implementation

steps in a way that lets people know how enthusiastic I am

without being so overwhelming about clients and my team members

can't get on board and end up switching off from what I'm saying.

Once you know what energises you and what doesn't

on your to-do list, it's important to find ways to really get your head in the game. You see,

once you understand which aspects of your business are annoying or demotivating and which ones are inspiring,

you can come up with strategies to order your tasks appropriately and get yourself in the right headspace for the different jobs that need tackling.

Because we still have to do the annoying the motivating stuff right unless we can afford to hire it out.

This has always been a personal challenge for me because I'm not great at routine, and if I'm being honest

This is something I've spent a silly amount of time fretting over and that's because my research tells me that routines are

effective ways to mitigate the decision fatigue that we all struggle with.

I believe that if I could stick to a structured daily schedule that I'd be able to get all the

low-level tasks off my plate more quickly and therefore have more time and space in which to prioritise

strategic career decisions that feel more interesting to me.

I basically think deep down that I'd be a better person if I could get up at the same time every day,

meditate, eat the healthy meal I'd already prepped, and sit down to tackle my set tasks

without being so influenced by whether I feel like it or not.

The trouble is, how productive I am at any given task is strongly correlated to how I'm feeling at the moment.

And that is especially true when we're talking about that nitty-gritty stuff that allows me to make money in my business today.

An example of that kind of task would be

reading a proposal to send to a list holder of clients that I'd like to work with or

scheduling my Instagram, or copy editing the online course have already drafted so I can actually launch it and move on.

Sometimes I need a little help

remembering to keep that focus on tasks that will be directly profitable, so

for the past couple months when I wake up in the morning, rather than beating myself up or having slept in or failing to

meditate or do yoga

I try to pop on a podcast

as I started that puts me in a mind frame to be productive at whatever

I really want to get done that day.

At the moment I'm especially loving The Strategy Hour

because Abigail and Emilee who run it are super encouraging and also they focus on systems and

strategy for the purpose of building small businesses that are profitable,

significant, and provide a nice lifestyle for us and our families... Which is

very much the entrepreneurial philosophy that I subscribe to as well.

The point is I think they're super smart, and they make me want to double down on my productivity when I listen to them.

If getting up and at the same time

Meditating eating a healthy breakfast that you've prepped the night before...

If all of that is something that you're able to do, then I salute you!

But if you're not, finding the next best thing that's free -

like a reliable podcast - and using that to help get your head in the game when you don't wake up feeling like a boss

seems like a pretty good strategy to me. My third tip is to put one system in place to organise your freaking life.

So the ladies who run The Strategy Hour also have an online course that has changed the way I approach

how I get things done in my business.

Using the project management software Trello

(Which is free and very easy) in the specific way that they recommend has been a single greatest change

I have made this year to propel myself towards my goals and this info is too good not to share it with you.

I've been embarrassed to admit that until about two months ago

I had my business plans admin systems passwords and all the content I'm working on

randomly scattered across Trello, Google Docs, Kenyote, Pages, the Notes app on my phone

And about five different spiral notebooks. They were sitting all over the apartment. I

pretty much started a new to-do list every day

and I was really overwhelmed

by trying to build smart strategies and figuring out what I wanted to focus on in my business all while sitting on a foundation of

disorganisation. That's right. I was

disorganised.

If you ever feel overwhelmed by trying to keep track of your business,

clients, your projects, and your actual life

I highly recommend you sign up for Tello For Business.

This video course shows you exactly how to set big picture goals and translate them into weekly tasks,

Manage your business, your blog, and your workflow whether you sell products or services.

It also helps you stick to your personal commitments. The course is $29.00 US. I'm not Affiliate. I just think it's really good

And that's about it... There you have it ...There are

three strategies that I have put in place to become a more effective leader in my business.

And I hope that they can translate into your own work life too.

I hope you have a happy and a productive week, and I'll see you next Monday...

Byeeee!

Aai-Baba, Diwali & Me: BhaDiPa - Duration: 10:09.

All your reasons to sleep in

fail during Diwali

It's compulsory to wake up early in Diwali

As Diwali approaches

You start noticing

specific Diwali symptoms

Symptom no. 1

You realise your Dad in on leave today

and is helping mom clean the house...

Morning Dad

but he only does his favorite job

sorting old newspapers

Mom! look what picture dad is-

Shh, I'l should them to you later

Symptom No. 2

Mom is cleaning all the containers in the house

and we

realise that we have such big containers

Put that down!

Take your hands off

Symptom No. 3

Dad, new fan?

Dad cleaned it.

I liked the color it had before.

Really?

Give it a month's time.

It feels so good to help mom out while making snacks!

How can you take so long....

but the guilt she makes us feel is also part of the fun!

If I had a daughter she would have helped me

I wouldn't have had to ask her

she would have willingly helped me out

So you mean a girl instead of me?

or a younger sister?

Hey, you're supposed to cut small pieces

We can make Karanjis (sweets)

with those big slices

We are supposed to make small ladoos

not cricket balls

It's a good thing I'm here

Your future wife will probably go buy all these snacks

Mom your chaklis are the best

Of everyone in the house

Mom is most excited about Diwali shopping

because she has been saving money all year for this!

Should we color the house?

This isn't a shopping item, but it always starts here.

Should we get a new sofa?

Brilliant! Yes?

But let's not...

The hall would seem smaller

Shall we get a new TV?

Like an HD or something like Saket is saying?

Mom, this is an HD TV.

Let's change the show.

Honey, new frying pan?

No? Ok

The washing machine is very noisy right?

And the color has faded!

Correct! Let's get a new one.

Mom! Microwave!

No way

You will get used to eating warmed-up stale food

At least a new iron!

I'll get a new lighter this time!

Listen, I've decided.

I am going to get 5 grams of gold this Diwali

Let's buy new footwear at least-

Sure! How much will it cost?

Since it's Diwali, at least four or five thousand

Let's go to Sahyadri Footwear! The whole family will cost only 1000 rs.

What?

Really!

Dad, now think what we can do with the remaining money.

Have a ladoo

Talking with Dad about Diwali is always

a trip down memory lane

Even we used to burst crackers...

And we never used bottles for rockets!

We would hold it in our hands, ignite it, and then let go

Saket

Let's go burst crackers

Hey Hrisihikesh!

Did you bathe?

The first time we got crackers

We got this many for just 14 rs.

We shared them all, right from eldest brother to youngest sister

We got all those crackers for 12 rs.

14

Was it?

I didn't ask for a single rupee

Dad I need 10 rs. to get coffee

Ok do one thing

Get small lamps, color them, sell them

and buy all the coffee you need!

Is this a time to make fun??

Mom!

Happy diwali!

Making a fort in Diwali is fun

And lecturing colony kids on how to make them

is even more fun!

Children!

Children, let me teach you some easy steps to make a

an awesome fort.

yea?

Dada, look there!

Yeah but-

Easy step no. 1,

Never throw mud directly on the rocks

First, put a jute sack on it

What's jute?

You don't know?

Will my T-Shirt do?

Will my undershirt do?

Will my Dad's shirt do?

Yes! Dad's!

Branded! Peter England is okay?

Yes! Peter England!

Easy step 2

When applying mud

take the mud in your hand

and take 7 steps back

and directly attack!

What a shot!

Easy Step no. 3

Stairs! How do you do it?

I'll teach you!

To make beautiful stairs you need

a weapon

a weapon?

You don't know weapon?

Kids these days-

Tool!

Weapon means tool.

To make beautiful stairs to your fort, use a tool

Your mom has one in the kitchen, a spatula

A spatula... a spatula! Which you use to do this-

To make thalipeeth! like, flip

What's thalipeeth?

You don't know thalipeeth?

Shit

Mom come to the balcony for a second!

There are many girls who see me as a brother

but there

are very few girls I consider to be my sister.

I'm about to call one of them

Because my mom wants me to ask

what she wants for bhaubhij (sibling gifting)

But what about my gifts?

Ok, let's put aside the male ego for a while.

If you want to get away with cheap gifts, Tip no. 1

Complete the phone call as soon as possible.

Hello! Yes it's me!

Yes, hello, yes your bhaubhij

hello? can't hear you!

Maybe not that quickly...

Tip no. 2

Pretend you're unaware of current trends

Watch.

what?

The new iPhone launched? Wow!

when?

No no,

I am still using dad's old nokia.

Macbook and all is just an illusion

You know what's the future?

The future is pen and paper!

No no no

People give it on Diwali

because Samsung explodes like crackers

Vivo? Ha!

it's Chinese!

Oppo! oppo...

Where's it from?

Tip No. 3

Pretend you have no idea about ladies fashion

Of course, some people don't need to pretend

Hello Di! No,

I haven't been to the ladies section before

Actually my last three breakups were for that!

Jewellery doesn't suit modern Indian girls.

Perfume?

How can I smell it?

Actually I have a bit of a cold

Bouquet of flowers?

Come on, I'll get you something better than that!

No, I can't think right now

can I whatsapp you?

Ok, bye

You know what though

Our sister really love us from

from the bottom of their hearts.

So we should actually get them the best gift we can right?

So forget all the tips and

head directly to Sahyadri Footwear.

There you get amazing footwear for 299, 399, 499!

Beautiful, amazing footwear

So this Bhaubhij

instead of being hit by chappals, let's gift them

Bhaubhij is coming! Think of the gifts!

Namaskar!

Happy diwali!

Do head to Sahyradri Footwear

and get awesome gifts this Diwali
