Hey everyone!
I'm on the road trip!
We are driving to the Westfjords.
For three days.
With the Mink Camper in the back.
I'm on my way to the Westfjords with a friend. (most remote area in Iceland)
And we have the Mink Camper in the back!
It's a camper van.
The first time that I'm driving with a trailer.
I'm always getting many questions about Iceland and I never really made a video about them.
So, I've got 10 facts for you now!
If you ever wondered on which side the petrol cap is.. the arrow next to the fuel symbol tells you!
First I'm going to talk about the temperature, because I think many people can't have any idea of it.
I couldn't either!
In the three summer months July till August it's mostly between 10 and 12°C.
But it can also get 18°C, what then is really hot here.
When the sun is out, it feels really strong.
What often causes the cold is the wind really.
It can get really really cold when the wind comes out.
And in the winter months where it really snows and where it's really cold,
November, December, January, February..
It could get to -16°C. But mostly it's really something between -4°C and +4°C.
At least that's what I noticed..
There is a sheep that can't turn around again.
It's laying on its back.
I don't know if I just can go on the land..
It's a matter of life and death.
I think it's dying.. it has foam at the mouth..
It's not moving anymore..
But the farmer is coming now..
It died..
Can you see the rainbow circle around the sun?
That happens when you are too stupid to fill up..
60 km later in Flókalundur!

Just before going to sleep, the second fact.
About the northern lights..
In the three summer months you can't see them of course, because you have 24/7 of daylight.
End of August it starts again that you can see some white northern lights.
And from end of August you can see them till around April. There you still have a good chance to see them.
To see the northern lights it has to be completely dark..
It also has to be cold - the colder the better..
And of course the sky has to be clear.
It's just unbelievably amazing..
To sleep here inside..
To open this window and feel the wind..
So, I'm going to make some hot coffee now!
Hüly knows it now!
So, we are cooking at the moment.
And as the 3rd fact I want to talk about Icelandic last names.
If you ever kept yourself busy with Icelanders then you might know that their last names
are often the same or that many people have the same last name.
That's because every child who is born is called the father's name's son by their last name.
So, if my father would be called Jón, I would be called Hüly Jónsdóttir.
When you are a girl then you are the daughter, so it's dóttir.
And when you are a sun, it's son.
Mostly, the name of the father is taken, but since a few years it's also possible to take the name of the mother.
I've eaten too much.
Awesome thing!
4th fact!
The nature looks different every single day.
Really.. you can drive the same road every day and every day it will seem like another road.
And you're always like: Am I right here?
It becomes more green every single day during summer.
And also, everything becomes just suddenly green.. like over night.
And then suddenly everything has an end and everything becomes yellow..
Awesome, awesome, awesooome!
So, we are in Breiðavík now.
Almost in Látrabjarg.
And here is the next fact.
It's about the language.
People speak Icelandic and English here.
And everyone is still learning Danish as a 2nd language in school as well.
And I would say for Germans it's not a really difficult language, when you are linguistically talented.
I can tell you a few important words or sentences.
'Góðan daginn!' - Means 'Good morning!' / 'Good day!'.
'Takk fyrir!' - Means 'Thank you!' / 'Thanks ((for) that)!'
'Já.' and 'Nei.' - Means 'Yes.' and 'No.'
'Ekkert mál!' - Means 'No problem!'
And I think Icelandic is a really bautiful language.
There is an online platform where you can learn Icelandic for free.
I will link that in the description box for you!
We arrived at Látrabjarg now!
Normally you can see puffins here, but I guess they flew away already now in September.
To somewhere where it's warmer.
And the 6th fact is that there are 340.000 people living here in Iceland.
As at 2017.
Wow, we thought this is white sand.
But these are tiny shells..
We are now again in the Mink Camper.
And we can see northern lights and the stars!
So, it's the last day today that we are travelling through the Westfjords with the Mink Camper..
I haven't shown you the inside yet, I think.
So, there are two berths.
There is a shelf where you can store things.
There is also a table that is outside now and two chairs which I will show you soon.
And a shoe box.
Here is a heater and USB connectors.

We saw the northern lights through each window yesterday ..
But here is the next fact..
I wanted to talk about the capital city.
It's Reykjavík.
And more than 60% of the people here in Iceland are living in Reykjavík.
Then there are a few bigger cities around Reykjavík, for example Hafnarfjörður and others.
And maybe one of the important ones or also one of the bigger ones
is for example Akureyri in the North or Selfoss in the South.
It's definitely worth to have a look at all of them!

So crazy.. it looks like a director's chair!

And this is our brunch..
The next fact is about the Icelandic flag.
It's red, white and blue.
Blue stands for the Atlantic Ocean (but mainy for the mountains).
Red stands for the volcanic activity, so for fire.
And blue for water.
The white stands for ice, so for the glacier.
And then there is the Nordic Cross which symbolises being part of the Scandinavian countries.
But it also stands for Christianity.
And I really love the Icelandic flag.. it's so beautiful..
It's really beautiful.. Look at it..
So, there is a gate coming soon.
On the way back from the Westfjords to Reykjavík.
It costs 1.000 ISK, so I thought I will tell you a few things about the Icelandic crones.
1.000 ISK look like this.
And 1.000 ISK are around 10 EUR.
But actually it's 8 EUR at the moment.
But I always keep it in mind like that 1.000 ISK are around 10 EUR,
but actually it's a bit less.. so it's 8 EUR.
So, 2.000 ISK are around 20 EUR, but it's actually a bit less.
That's how I keep it in my mind.
And there is the gate!
Ok, good to mention that it costs 200 ISK more when you have a trailer in the back!
And I wanted to tell you that you can pay everywhere with credit card.
And then there is already the last and 10th fact for you.
You can make a ring road tour around Iceland.
The street is called street number 1 or ring road.
If you would drive it at once it would take 17 hours.. Without sleep, without anything.
As I was here the first time I rented a car and drove around Iceland in 10 days.

I can really recommend to rent a car or a camper van like we have now.
The Mink Camper is really amazing.
It's really comfortable and you can park everywhere.
Or you could even take it off and just continue with the car, depending on where you are driving.
Or you can also rent a real camper, like a car that includes the bed and so on..
Or you can drive with Couchsurfing groups.
Or hitchhiking.. There are many ways to travel around Iceland.
I'm really happy to travel with a camper van this time.
It was really fun!
Especially to see the northern lights through the windows!

joy and happiness and peace of mind see most people are bored with life most
people feel that life isn't worth the hassle the life is just wearing me out
it's boring it's monotonous I have nothing to look forward to there we go
get another Monday morning TGIF day thank God it's Friday here we go girl oh
boy you see the man meant but many people
died age 25 and don't get buried until there are 65 doing the same thing the
same way every day looking at these faces just walk around
I mean you got to be aware of these faces they affect you you know try to
stay around Pleasant faces and if you have an unpleasant face try and smile
more it's good for your health and there's another dividend you look
better too so looking for a way in which we can begin to give our lives some
special power number one commit yourself to giving your best at all times now
that's not easy see most people and particularly those who are working in
corporations they're finding now they've got to change their behavior we're now
involved in a world economy we will never do business the way in which we
have done business in the past we will never be able to in the American
workplace do just enough to get by now the standards have been raised
quality and productivity has been increased because of the competition and
so now average performance will not be enough this is a new day competition is
fierce so people who just have been in locked into a behavior pattern are
working just hard enough to keep from getting fired they're being laid off and
forced into early retirement it's a new game now so now more than ever it's
about increased productivity now more than ever it's about superior quality
service now more than ever it's about creating a positive atmosphere in the
workplace and people that have that competitive age people that are hungry
to make it so you got to be hungry now you can't just casually walk around well
I'll get to it later on oh no no this this is a new day right now committing
yourself to give your best at all times regardless of the competition to do
otherwise all the influences of negative people that will tell you hey look here
don't push yourself too much now's the time to push yourself to always get into
habit of giving the best that you have to
share thinking about a situation where I had I had to give a lecture out in Los
Angeles California for Xerox Corporation but part of what I do when I my
profession is doing corporate training my passion is doing training with kids
so when I go someplace I always try and arrange for a community group they have
a group of young people together for me to work with them on a volunteer basis
in the evening so I decided to go into an area of Los Angeles to talk with
someone about doing that and they suggested that I come to speak at a
community center right outside Los Angeles at Carson community center and
because of the the gangs in Los Angeles one of the young men that was coming
there to organize it and his mother he had a twin brother and he took an
interest in me because I have a twin and his twin brother was the victim of a
gang ritual they brought in a new member and again and he had to prove that he
was really with them and committed and his job was just to select anybody at
random and kill them and he did that as this young guy was coming out of the
store so they told me mr. Brown would you come over and talk to the teenagers
here there's a lot of depression and despair and hopelessness that people
feeling powerless about the gangs and brains I'm with you some handouts and
materials so you can do a workshop and parents will be involved too would you
be willing to do that I said well I'm doing a full day's seminar I'm usually
just physically exhausted afterwards how many people you say you're gonna have
the wig guarantee at least 4 to 500 people there I said ok I will come there
and work with them and take them through this intensive it's called project with
respect how to create a shift in the community how to get young people
engaged in a process of creating positive peer pressure rather than
buying into the negative peer pressure instruments and techniques of how we can
provide ongoing coaching for young people to begin to change how they see
themselves and their values and how to resist negative peer pressure so I came
there after working in a seminar totally exhausted in that Los Angeles traffic it
took over an hour to get there got there they only had 7 people I had an attitude
said you had me come all the way from Los Angeles after working all day just
to talk to seven people you told me over 400 people were going to be aware the
parents only one parent here my time is valuable I've got all this material that
we've copied to do a workshop and so I went on and talked to those young people
that were in the room the seven that were there and I just gave him a little
speech and then I left went back to the hotel that night around 3:30 in the
morning the phone rang the minister that invited me called me said mr. Brown I
I've got to ask for your attention for a moment I said what I what is it Kenyatta
one of the young men who was there want to talk to you he was a brother of a guy
that was killed he'd like to talk to you he's been here for over now and I told
him please don't call you but he insisted would you please talk to him
for a moment I said yes put him on the phone Kenyatta what can I do for you he
said mr. Brown I'd listen to your tapes for a long time I've grown to love you
and admire you among the things that I heard on your tapes that you said you
must deal with circumstances such as you find them you came in this evening and I
admit no we did not have the numbers that you asked for no we did not deliver
as we had promised we would but we were looking for you the motivator to give us
some hope we were depressed and we don't know what to do we were looking for some
direction and you were so caught up in pouting with your ego because we didn't
have the place full you didn't give us your best I say excuse me I was laying
in bed I sit up then wait a minute here mr. Potter what won't let us grow in
life is number one we identify when we get feedback we start taking it personal
number two we start to justify so I became defensive and I said wait a
minute I worked all day I didn't charge you all
a quarter for this I went copied material I came over there I was there
to give a training for the people and you all y'all had to do was bring people
there if you don't do it to me for the next speaker that you have at least
provided audience for him to work with he said are you through sir
I said yes mr. brown you said you must deal with circumstances such as you find
there we went round and round for about 45 minutes because my ego Arnall I can't
let this young boy out debate me he was not intimidated I used all the verbal
gymnastics and examples I could he would not bulge and I said okay I'm sorry
give me a break and he said it takes a big man to say he's sorry
that night after I finish that young man I prayed I stayed on the floor by the
bed I said Lord if you ever give me a chance
to speak again I don't care if it's one person in the audience I'm gonna wear
that one out I learned my lesson
