The Dark Forces Have Been in Survival Mode for Almost a Year Now - Duration: 4:17.

The Dark Forces Have Been in Survival Mode for

Almost a Year Now

Major movements towards the complete control of the surface population by the negative

agenda were halted and reverse engineered back into a major push forward towards positive

polarity/timelines.

The 23rd of September was pushed with as much quick "end of the world" programming as possible

for a greatly needed recharge for the negative forces, and unknown to many, the Draco alliance

was using this Loosh energy to open up a portal to bring in much needed backup.

In coordination with some of the surface ground crew anchored in the physical, operations

to not only shut down the portal, but to reset original timelines, open up more Galactic

Consciousness to the programmed surface population, and capture/quarantine some major players

in the Dark forces were undergone with a major success.

The Dark forces have been in survival mode for almost a year now, and they are pushing

as hard as they can for more and more fuel.

This is why we are seeing so much social unrest, unstable weather, natural disasters, wars

and rumors of wars picking up faster and faster.

The negative agenda has been running the razors edge for a long time.

Milk enough negative energy out of humanity to fulfill their agenda, and keep us from

exploding into a massive Armageddon type scenario from all the etheric interference, social/political

programming and us vs them mentality.

Without us, they have no batteries, and this is another reason why there will never be

a major world ending war, simply because they need vast numbers of their "livestock."

They are reaching the end of what their manipulation can handle without the collapse of their entire

system.

Here is the thing though... we already know the old world is collapsing.

Many are actively cultivating the seeds of the new world to catch the collapse of the

old.

The reason we came here is to usher in humanity through the birth of the Golden Age as painlessly

and full of love as possible.

Take stock of yourself.

Do you produce as much as you consume?

What value are you bringing to humanity?

If this question leaves you lacking, which if we are being honest with ourselves, all

of us are lacking in some aspect of this, do not let it discourage you.

Start small.

Smile at a stranger.

Hold the door for someone.

Make a meal for the neighbors.

We are all stuck inside of our bubbles only caring about our immediate surroundings.

It is not ME that is going to get us through this, it is WE.

Start to open up the feelings you have to your immediate friends/family and start spreading

it out to everyone.

Even if you can never interact physically with billions of these people, send them your

love, your appreciation, your thanks.

Stay calm.

Stay true.

Hold yourself to a higher standard.

We are coming into the unstable times of chaos before the major transition.

A small, sustained group of people holding the world in their hearts with love can make

this transition so much faster and easier.

Become one of them.

Become one of US.

Recognize that everything we thought was true is malleable and we will be witnessing amazing

things in the coming years.

We all know there is something massive coming for humanity.

Something brilliant.

Something pure.

The path is clearer than it has ever been, and we can see where it leads now.

History Brief: Nixon Goes to China - Duration: 3:34.

Why would a staunch, anti-communist American President visit the world's most populous

communist nation?

That's precisely what happened in early 1972.

President Richard Nixon had long been known for his strong anti-communist stance.

He had assisted Senator Joseph McCarthy during the Red Scare era and had been selected as

the Vice President in 1952, largely because of his firm anti-communist position.

Many Americans also remembered him for standing up to Soviet Premier Khrushchev in 1959, during

the famous Kitchen Debate.

So, for many, it seemed unusual when President Nixon decided to make a journey to Communist

China.

In February of 1972, Nixon traveled to Beijing and became the first American President to

visit mainland China while in office.

Nixon met with the aging Chairman Mao Tse Tung who had made China a communist nation

in 1949.

Nixon also traveled to several different locations, including the Great Wall, Hangzhou, and Shanghai.

While President Nixon met with Chinese leaders, the First Lady (Pat Nixon) toured schools,

factories, and hospitals.

At the conclusion of the week, the US and China agreed to open trade and other relations

between the two nations.

President Nixon referred to his week in China as "the week that changed the world" and

stated that he hoped it would help end 22 years of hostility between the two nations.

The US would eventually establish full diplomatic relations with China in 1979.

The meeting had a profound impact on the Cold War.

With Nixon's successful visit to China, he managed to make the world's most populated

nation a potential ally.

It effectively placed China and the United States on the same side by souring Soviet

relations with the Chinese.

China remains a communist nation to this day, but, thanks to Nixon's policies, the United

States and China are strong economic partners.

Since the 1990s, China has held the most favored nation trading status with the United States.

In 2011, the US bought more than 1.3 trillion dollars' worth of goods from Communist China.

In popular culture, this visit has given rise to the expression, "Only Nixon can go to

China".

This phrase is typically used when someone (usually a politician) is acting in an uncharacteristic

fashion.

We Put Waterproof and Windproof Fire Starters to the Test - Duration: 2:30.

If you're gonna go camping you've got to have the right lighters and matches.

Today, we're gonna put some to the test.

The first thing we're gonna do is try to put these matches to the test and see if they're waterproof.

So we'll start off using the Coleman.

I'm gonna dunk it in water and try to light it.

Voilà!

Alright, now we're gonna dunk it underwater and see if it goes out.

And it did!

Alright, well you can see it definitely worked when it was wet, but it probably won't last

too long if it rains.

So let's try the next one!

Next up, the UCO Stormproof matches.

Here we go!

Holy crap!

It's magic!

Look at that.

It obviously kicks Coleman's butt in this test.

Alright, now we're gonna go ahead and move on to the wind test.

So the first thing we'll do is try out the matches and see if they hold up to the wind.

We'll start off using the Coleman.

Alright, let's light it up!

It burned for a bit!

Well, I didn't even really have to blow it out because it went out on its own.

So, clearly they don't stand up against wind.

So next up is the UCO Stormproof matches and we'll see if they hold up against the wind.

Well, as you can see, I'm blowing on it and it still won't go out.

So we're gonna take it one step further and I'm gonna ask my buddy Luke to come hold the

match for me.

Well, it even held up to the . . . you're done.

Thank you though.

Well, it even held up to the blower and that was pretty badass.

Now let's move on to the lighters.

So now we're gonna try out the Zippo lighter.

It's supposed to be windproof so we'll see.

It kinda worked.

I blew it a couple of times.

It tried to stay lit, but not really.

So, let's move on to the next.

Next up, we've got the Hot Shot 2.

Well . . .

Wow!

Brand new lighter doesn't even work.

So I'm gonna go ahead and say it's not windproof.

There you have it.

My pick is on the UCO Stormproof matches.

MDMA: The Perfect Drug For Psychotherapy w/ Dr. Ben Sessa - Duration: 6:56.

We mustn't make influences about psychedelic therapies by what we know

about the recreational use of the drugs it's almost irrelevant yeah so if if

people make influence is about MDMA therapy based on what they know about

ravers taking ecstasy then they're going to be very misinformed you know a good

analogy is imagine if there was some weird peculiar recreational pursuit

whereby people like to take out their appendix with a pair of rusty scissors

on the on the kitchen table you wouldn't then look at that bizarre

practice and say goodness me it's absolutely unethical and controversial

that doctors should do appendix operations in hospitals you know it

doesn't bear any relevance so you're quite right the general public is

irrationally fearful because they don't understand that

MDMA therapy is a medical procedure and most people don't take MDMA in that way

when they take it recreationally now some do some people take MDMA very

sensibly but a great many people don't and so they don't understand that there

is a difference and so you're quite right people need to be re-educated on

the way that these drugs can be used clinically and we can learn a lot from

recreational use and certainly from underground therapy use but the general

public is understandably fearful because they don't they don't really understand

the nature of clinical MDMA therapy and and when MDMA therapy is used in a

clinical setting we can control and manage and reduce the harms that may be

associated with recreational use so people ought not be fearful they

ought be they ought to be curious and open-minded about this the potential for

therapy with psychedelics because all of the psychedelics can be taken very

safely so that's that bit and your next question was how does it work in the

brain so yeah MDMA is very remarkable substance quite unique within

pharmacology it works on a number of different

receptors and at each of the different receptors it has an effect and in

totality when these effects are added up it's the perfect drug for psychotherapy

so at the level of the serotonin 1a 1b receptors it increases positive mood

reduces anxiety and depression and gives the person a sense of positive

well-being this is the kind of ecstasy effects so that's a very beneficial

positive experience to have in therapy with a patient who has a history of

trauma and has spent most of their life in a sense of fear and low mood and

anxiety so that's one place it works it also works at the serotonin 2a receptors

and these are the receptors where the classical psychedelics like LSD and

psilocybin work so it's not such an intensive classical an intense

psychological experiences LSD and psilocybin MDMA but it does have some

degree of the mild psychedelic effects which within therapy means it can work

to open new possibilities in terms of creativity and in terms of thinking

outside the box and open new ways of looking at all problems so that's at the

2a receptors it works on the drug on the neurotransmitter dopamine

dopamine is the kind of amphetamine speeded up part of it and this is where

it motivates the patient to engage in therapy so it's the speeds them up it

can make them more engaged whilst paradoxically working on the

2a alpha adrenal receptors which have a relaxation effect so it's both speeding

them up by the dopamine receptors and slowing them down via the of alpha 2

receptors so you're in this peculiar sense of both speeded up and slowed down

at the same time and this puts the person into the optimal arousal zone

for psychotherapy so people with trauma symptoms are often what we call hyper

vigilant they're edgy and on edge and anxious so they after effect calms

that down and people out learn if you've taken ecstasy

it does have this peculiar quality of feeling speeded up and slowed down at

the same time but therapeutically it has a very positive effect via a hormone

called oxytocin it increases the secretion of oxytocin from the brain and

oxytocin is a hormone that's secreted from the brains of breastfeeding mothers

and it's a hormone that engenders a sense of attachment and bonding and that

has a very positive effect in augmenting the quality of the therapeutic

relationship between the patient and the therapist so when you add up all of

these different effects at all of those different receptors what you get is a

drug that allows a person to be with and reflect upon painful traumatic memories

that normally they want to avoid so if you look at PTSD for example you have

people in their 30s 40s 50s who are have led this miserable life of disability

because of this thing that happened to them when they were 10 years old and

they've carried it all through their life and they've become addicted to

alcohol and they've become addicted to heroine and they've self harmed and

they've been sectioned Hospital and they've had all of these different

medications and it all comes down to the fact that they will not and cannot think

about and talk about that thing that happened to them that night when they

were 10 years old and so there's a huge avoidance about doing the psychotherapy

what MDMA does is it puts them into this place psychologically through its

pharmacological effects where they can be with it they can actually say do you

know what I can talk about that night I can talk about it in great detail for a

great deal of hours I can do this psychotherapy work so it has this

ability to provide this this kind of proof vest or lifesaver jacket that

allows you to do do the trauma work so that's really what's happening both

physically and psychologically with MDMA

Gluten-Free / Vegan Candy Testing: Craftober Spooktacular, Day 4 - Duration: 11:24.

Hey guys, my name's Kate.

Welcome back to my channel and today, we're continuing the saga of the

Craftober Spooktacular with some candy testing

Full disclosure I have opened and sampled a couple of these already

mostly, I was really intrigued by the

sour gummy worms and these guys.

Mostly because back in the day sour gummies were kind of awesome

and I haven't had them for about a decade and a half.

Whether it's because there was gelatin in there or whatever but

For all of these, it's vegan and gluten free. That's what we're going for.

Gold Emblem

I think it's a CVS brand

And they actually have a lot of really good stuff in here like stinging nettle and grapefruit. These ones are pretty good. I've had a few of them.

Now initially, I thought they were gonna be like gummy worms

but they're just kind of like well peanut shapes there's grapefruit and apricot and

Something else think there's three different

Variants the inside is squishy and the outside has a sour on it

These are pretty good

So these we work for like a trick or treat thing the other ones would too if you wanted to just give them the whole bag.

But these ones have

individual packs

These guys. Now, I thought these would be about the same size as the other ones right that's how tiny they are

Taste pretty good, though.

there's kind of my tangy sour flavor because lemon the

combination of the lemon in the watermelon with the sour crystals on the outside almost tastes like an unripe

Watermelon. If that makes any sense. it's almost like the flavor of something that you're not supposed to eat, but it still works

most of the young earth section seems to be in the vegan gluten-free category

But some does have gelatin in it

So just be aware of that especially with the gummy sort of stuff now another one from that company that I'm not gonna

Opened because they're going back to the store because I temporarily forgot why I don't like

Lollipops because that's what these are. I just have an issue with the stick and

It doesn't work, but I have tried just the candies

themselves because I think they have a lollipop version

and they have just like a regular candy version far as I know with the candies themselves were pretty good and fit into the

Vegan gluten free categories, along with a whole lot of other situations

And if you are into lollipops or you want to hand them out these are individually wrapped, too

so they would work for the "handing out candy" standards.

So the next one is Annie is some bunnies and

these guys are little gummies too.

*looking for labeling doodly song break*

Vegan, gluten-free fun stuff, and if you like better

Like the rest of them that I've got almost all the rest of them. You know I've got these wings are

Halloween specific with the little bats in there - in the box that size

Which I forget what the price point was I think it was about five dollars at Target

But you get 15 of the little thingies, which would also work for treat bags

That is the little bat.

Really heavy cherry flavor, at least that's what I'm getting and then for bunnies now in the bats

He's like cherry. They taste pretty good

But they also have and I don't know if I'm more sensitive to it right now

because I've been sick for a week and my cough syrup has a

Natural cherry flavoring in it, but that's kind of what these taste like so it's not bad

It's just interesting, but they do taste pretty good

So there's that and now know back when I was a kid there weren't that many

Candies that I could eat because I have the dairy restriction a long-standing thing so almost all chocolate was

Completely out as far as what I could do so it was mostly the little gummy things

for

Skittles or that sort of thing

which is incidentally probably why I'm gravitated more towards the

Gummy stuff because being veggie most gummies have

gelatin in them and even the ones that don't most have gluten in them to keep the elasticity so

between being vegetarian and

Gluten free. I found some that work which is good

But I was looking at starbursts a few days ago because that was like almost a staple like that

that was a staple pretty much in my limited candy *esperiance* (bad French accent) when I was a kid.

They have

Gelatin in them, which didn't know that but if you want

starburst type things I found these that are vegan and gluten-free.

Looks like they have

Four, maybe five flavors there's four in the back, but then there was a red one up here

So also the pink one on the back is cherry, so I haven't tried these me yet, so we'll dive into it

So that it's what they look like.

All right, and it actually shows

what the

Flavor it's supposed to be on there too a little easier to see it

on the cherry one, but we've had a little bit enough of the cherry right now, so I'm gonna try mango

First impressions of these um

Starbursts are hard and then kind of get chewy as you eat them. These start out, chewy.

Well regular starbursts kind of fill these two mines burns stick to your teeth, and you just kind of like dig into the grooves

Everything these are just kind of a pillow of soft squishyness... spoke too soon

I it did kind of get stuck in my back teeth over here

And they can have kind of a creamy undertone also from Black Forest we have these guys

Are their version of like sour patch kids which I can't actually remember if I've had sour patch kids

at least the last but

It's not the full

it's kid, I guess. It's just their head.

Especially for a Halloween thing, that kind of works, so

Here, we've got raspberry lime fruit punch lemon and orange, okay

It's a fruit punch was always like the staple one for me, so

I'm getting less head and more star that's what they look like

Oh! it's a raspberry everyone that way it kind of tastes like

Condensed jam but it with a sour note in it the raspberry I actually like fruit punch. You're not so sure on that one

I know, it's like the association between

Sour and things that have kinda gone off, but it almost tastes like they made a fruit salad with something that wasn't quite

ripe something, but that's that's just the sour

It's all texture is good overall they're pretty good so the next one

I actually haven't seen anyone since I was like 12 or 15, but some skulls and bones from sweet tarts

So I didn't even know that they still made these. They're gluten free as far as I know

But it doesn't say any more on here that they're gluten-free

It just doesn't have it in the ingredients it also doesn't have any animal products in the ingredients

But it says that it may contain egg, so if you have an allergy

It might be more of an issue than if you don't

Right so, that's what the little skulls look like so the yellow was interesting

They got the bones, which these are wider than I remember so pink pink is the kind of berry flavor Purple's more

of a grapey.

We're gonna do a bit of a speed round. in jelly beans

were kind of in the same section as

Gummy stuff when I was a kid where it was more than one, but I could eat I didn't always like them

But they were there from Jelly Belly, I was

thinking that they might have

gelatin or something in them or that there was the milk listed for the

Chocolate ones because this particular pack the Autumn one has chocolate pudding in it as a flavor

But it's fat free, gluten free, and peanut free. They do have

Beeswax in them though, so that's something to be aware

When you're looking at these are actually going back too.

Its real quick because the camera is overheating again. There's two

That I can eat, when my system's fully

operational and everything because it's just trace amounts of dairy but Junior Mints and

Justin's

peanut butter cups

both have trace amounts of

milk chocolate in the system because they process milk and dark chocolate in

the compound these ones are a pretty good stand-in for Reese's and

usually they're fine, but

contains trace amounts with milk milk and

Tree nuts due to processing on shared equipment for these for these

It's egg and milk may be present now

I would test them for you on the camera

But I don't want to send myself back into a relapse after being sick for a week.

Junior Mints used to totally be my jam they're not so high on the list of

Awesomeness at the moment just because there's other things

And they're a little too sweet for me on top of

Weird colors and stuff. I don't know how the black and orange

Coloring would affect the flavor if at all they smell the same through the box

And they are peanut and gluten free that's all I've got for right now. If you want to see something else like this

Noetisexuality and my Audrey - Duration: 10:12.

I'm starting this off with a statement.

The term noetisexual was coined by Michon Neal.

I'm going to share hir Paypal.me page in the comments.

As much as my needs are, hirs are much more dire.

This might change by the time I'm recording this, but I will admit to a lot of white fragility

as well as struggle with my own mental health issues- and after something I did, said, posted,

shared on Facebook, Michon unfriended me.

I don't know what specifically, or even if it's just the color of my skin and my racialized

identity; I'm still unlearning the racism I was raised with plus the simple fact of

being a white person living in a white supremacy.

Ze explains how noetisexual is a better term than sapiosexual;

I believe that if you donate to hir Patreon if you can find it, you'll get to read the full thing, but it was hard

enough for me to go looking for the Paypal.me; I don't have anymore Matchsticks in me for anymore looking.

Unfortunately people had stolen hir intellectual property so ze had to protect hirself at one

point by making a lot of hir articles into "Patron-only" available.

And before you get any further, I am using Michon's pronouns.

Z-e and h-i-r.

While there isn't any agreement that I know of on how to pronounce h-i-r, that doesn't

give a reason in my opinion not to respect someone's pronouns.

Please pause me now if you're able to donate to an amazing Black nonbinary writer.

So I hope by this point that you've located Michon's article or articles; now I'm going

to continue on with my understanding of hir writing.

"Intelligence" is such a small piece of people's internal landscapes; as someone who is a survivor

of various traumas, is neurodivergent, is bipolar, I have a lot of problems that can

disguise and complicate how intelligent I may seem.

That all meant that Michon's theory of noetisexuality resonated with me.

Somewhere after reading that, I started to think about my characters and how close I

am to them.

I don't remember why *non-penetrative sex* was on my mind, but it was and Audrey responded.

Let me give you a little summary (spoilers ahead about my Vala's Story-verse, by the

way- skip ahead to the *time stamp* I will provide once I've finished recording this,

if you don't want to read them... or hear them.)

Audrey's story runs importantly throughout the Vala's Story-verse.

She is the woman who helped The Queen as a desperate teen in need and then once he was

the age of consent, she taught him how to be a dominant and submissive.

She's a beautiful Black transgender woman originally from the US South, although she's

been living in New York City since probably her early 20s.

She has her own family of submissives who have submitted to-to her.

Yes, I'm being a terrible author here and mixing verb tenses.

Audrey is now a 68 year old woman; we had a moment when I did the math and figured out

that I'd been thinking her only 35.

When she asked if her age of 68 mattered, I said "not one bit."

Whether you listened to the spoilers on Audrey's background or not, let me get back to that

*non-penetrative sex* thing.

I was thinking about ways to "have sex" that don't include *penis or phallic object inserted

into hole.* Audrey put forward that she and I could have sex that didn't include penetration.

I don't remember hesitating to question the logistics of her proposal; nope, my question

was about my agreements about polyamory with my Master as well as her polyamory agreements

with her submissives.

But once the polyamory part was behind us, what about the logistics of sexual intercourse?

I've written many pages of romance and sex- sometimes they were entirely fictional, sometimes

they even included me and what I'd done or hoped to do.

I'd already written dreams of what it would be like to have sex with various characters

from the Vala's Story-verse.

The idea of having sex with Audrey in my mind never seemed odd or impossible to me.

Why limit reality?

Plenty of religions ask us to believe things we can't see with our eyes normally.

I argued not too long ago, "Well doesn't Audrey have a soul?

If one believes in a soul- and I'm not entirely convinced one way or the other.

But whatever animation I have, she has; the only difference is that I have a flesh and

blood body and she doesn't."

I stand by that; Audrey is as real as I am; she has more *backstory* (to use the writer-ly

term) than I've even thought of.

She often behaves in ways I don't expect, wouldn't want if I was an author fully in

charge of a character's story.

My daughter teases me about "your fake girlfriend."

While the majority of her relationships have been long distance and primarily online, using

some form of technology to be together- like "going to bed while on Skype," the notion

that Audrey doesn't have a physical body makes the whole question of a relationship with her

invalid to my daughter.

And I get it- most people don't find my relationship with Audrey valid.

I used to call Audrey "my character/girlfriend" to explain to people that she doesn't have

a physical body; I don't think that validity was an active part of my mind when I talked

with her about just saying "my girlfriend."

However, I do call her "my girlfriend" now.

And our minds connect, even if her mind is within my mind.

What are we doing on social media, if not connecting with other people?

And I'm now wandering.

Hopefully a friend can read this before I turn it into a vlog and tell me why I started

wandering- if that's possible- edited to add: my friend was wise- "have you ever thought

about why your relationship with Audrey is important to you?" she asked.

I'll link the vlog answering that question once it's made.

So the same old- well not quite as I'm going to put my links in the description again since

my transcripts are normally long enough now to require being in a comment.

But please Subscribe- because uploading on the same day each week just doesn't work in

my life.

You can also use the Alert button to find out when I post.

And please consider supporting my writing and vlogging- I have Patreon and Ko-fi pages.

Speaking of my writing- among my links is my website where you can read my writing-

often more graphic than what I share in my vlogs; there I tend to manage posting Monday

and Wednesday for blog hops.

I hope you enjoyed my curious babble and learned something thanks to Michon.

Thanks for stopping by.

Please take care of yourself.

Breaking: Paul Ryan Betrays 2nd Amendment… Send Him Home! | Top Stories Today - Duration: 2:44.

House Speaker Paul Ryan has reportedly shelved an NRA-backed bill that would have made it

easier for gun owners to obtain a firearm suppressor, leading many Second Amendment

activists to speculate he's fallen for the left's lies and scare tactics.

The bill is "not scheduled right now — I don't know when it will be scheduled,"

Ryan announced Tuesday, making it clear the bill has been shelved indefinitely, as reported

by the Chicago Tribune.

Ryan issued this statement two days after a gunman opened fire on a country music concert

from the 32nd floor of a Las Vegas hotel, killing at least 59 and wounding over 500.

Likewise, he said this roughly 24 hours after failed Democrat presidential nominee Hillary

Clinton purposefully politicized the tragedy by falsely claiming more would have died Sunday

had the shooter used a gun suppressor:

As noted earlier this week by gun rights expert Awr Hawkins, "suppressors do not eliminate

the sound of a gunshot."

To be clear, the Sportsmen's Heritage and Recreational Enhancement Act was never scheduled

for a vote this week, as noted by Katie Pavlich of Townhall.

The problem lies with Ryan's obvious insinuation that he has no intention of bringing the bill

up for a vote anytime soon, if ever.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Congress likewise postponed a hearing on the SHARE

Act following the shooting in June, when a deranged leftist opened fire on GOP congressmen

who were practicing for a baseball game at a field in Virginia.

That shooting wound up critically injuring House Majority Whip Steve Scalise.

"When two mass shootings force you to delay a bill that would make those mass shootings

harder to detect and stop, maybe that's a sign you ought to let go of the bill once

and for all," Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer reportedly said Tuesday following

Ryan's surprise announcement.

Congratulations on missing the point, Schumer …

Here's the truth: "When two mass shootings force you to delay a bill," maybe it's

a sign you need to stop allowing the fear-mongering lies of the shameless left dictate how you

run Congress.

This especially applies to the SHARE Act, which Hawkins noted simply "removes the

burdensome process for acquiring them and erases the federal tax that must be paid in

order to receive permission to posses one."

There's nothing radical about this bill, but because Ryan has less of a backbone than

a slug, he's been forced into a position of submission yet again.

What do you think about the indefinite shelving of this bill?

Please share this news and let us know what you think about Paul Ryan's cowardice in

the face of the left's disingenuous scare tactics.

The Full Danny Strong Interview - Duration: 17:31.

Film Courage:  You had early success in your screenwriting career as you had your first

screenplay optioned for a few thousand dollars in the beginning?

Danny Strong:  Yes. Film Courage:  And then you wrote for six

years and you were able to sell RECOUNT to HBO.  So most people would have given up

in that six year period.  Especially now when everybody wants things instantly.  Why

didn't you give up? Danny Strong:  That's a great question.

I mean the early success wasn't really success [Laughs]…I would say.  I wouldn't really

call it early success.  I don't even view it that way.  I view it as six years of no

one wanting my stuff and it was some random person who was very kind who was interested

in the script.  But it wasn't as if it was all of the sudden "I made it and it's

happening now!"  So it really was a six, seven year journey into selling my first project

which was recount and why I didn't give up I think is because I had something to say

and I loved writing these scripts and they were important to me and I loved working on

stories and it just was artistically, extremely fulfilling where my acting career was very

frustrating.  And I worked…I worked on some terrific shows that I'm really proud

of, but I wasn't actually getting to act very much.  So even when you're working…you

know I would do episodes of Gilmore Girls and I would do four episodes a season and I would

work on it a day or two and that would be one of my only jobs for six months.  So it's

really about seven days on set over a six month period.  So what am I doing the rest

of the time?  I'm auditioning and trying to get new jobs but that's an hour a day

maybe? So really it was a creative outlet for me

of taking my creative energy and putting it into something where I can actually just go

do it. Where as an actor, you have to be picked to

go do it and then you rarely get picked.  So I just found it fulfilling but I also was

getting rejected left and right, script after script and agents, managers, production companies,

everyone didn't want my work for six, seven years.  And I got to a point where I asked

myself this is not going well. What do you want from this?  What are you doing?  And

I sort of asked myself would I (and it's one of the key questions in the movie REBEL

IN THE RYE)  would I do this for the rest of my life if I got nothing in return and

I thought "Yeah…I would."  And I just kept writing and then eventually, it wasn't

as if six months later…crack the champagne! It was maybe three years later that I sold

RECOUNT as a pitch to HBO and then just kind of went on from there.

But there was a certain peace in knowing that it wasn't about selling something or success

(even though I really wanted it.  I wasn't a Kumbaya moment but there was a peace in

knowing that well whatever happens you just keep writing.  So I just kept writing and

that's what I did. Film Courage:  You included that in two parts

of the movie [REBEL IN THE RYE] that premise [keep writing even if you get nothing in return]

and that's a real eye-opener that most people may not be ready for.

Danny Strong:  Yeah. And look what J.D. Salinger did, right?  He stopped publishing

at the height of his fame and then continued writing for 45 years for nothing in return

and he wrote every day and he just did it because he just wanted to write and I think

to me that's what makes this story a profound story is the journey of the artist and he

goes from being a young many who all he wants is success to being an older writer which

all he wants is to just create his art and nothing else.  And that's the journey.

That's the Aesop fable of this movie. Film Courage: Would you say you still spend

300 days a year writing EMPIRE? Danny Strong:  No.  I was the first two

seasons of EMPIRE. I was very active and then with season three I switched to consulting

and made REBEL IN THE RYE.  So now with seasons three and four, I'm still the executive

producer on it, but I'm not nearly as hands on as I was for the first two seasons.

Film Courage:  You probably couldn't have written EMPIRE and REBEL IN THE RYE at the

same time? Danny Strong:  Well I think I wrote REBEL

IN THE RYE the first couple drafts before EMPIRE happened.  And actually EMPIRE happening

slowed my progress in getting REBEL IN THE RYE made because EMPIRE got made.  So I ended

up working on that.  But I ended up directing a lot of episodes of EMPIRE, so that was an

amazing experience for me to transition into directing.  It just couldn't have been

a better way to really learn that craft because you have to move so quickly and I have plenty

more to learn but it was a great start for me.

Film Courage:  When you are writing…and I understand you have this writing day where

you have your breakfast, get a lot of "housekeeping" out of the way, but is it easier to write

in New York versus LA?  Or the place doesn't really matter?

Danny Strong:  Well I love New York City.  I love being there.  I'm just so happy

there, so for me I can write anywhere and that's kind of one of the fun things about

writing is I can be anywhere in the world and I can write. And it's actually pretty

cool to be in some random city some where in some random coffee shop and you're writing

and it's like how often does someone have a job that they can do anywhere in the world?

I mean that's a lot of fun! And I'm perfectly productive in Los Angeles.

I just love being in New York and it's just an exciting place to be.

Film Courage:  Can you relate to J.D. Salinger's process in terms of where once he crossed

over into meditation and all of that and he needed to really barricade himself?  Can

you relate to this? Danny Strong:  I definitely don't barricade

myself at all.  I actually write in public places.  I don't like being in a quiet

room by myself.  I have a certain amount of ADD and being in a quiet room I zone out

and I'm less productive.  So I actually like having people around me.  I have my

headset on, I listen to music. I write to movie scores.  So I'm just listening to

movie scores and people are around and there's an energy and I find it very helpful.  And

it just helps me focus, but that's just me.  So the isolation of what  Mr. Salinger

did is kind of the opposite of how I work. Film Courage:  For new writers, I know they

are told to get feedback from other people.  I was recently reading Anne Lamott's Bird

By Bird and she talked about writing conferences and how they can be helpful, but at the same

time the slashing to the edits is also stabbing the screenwriter a little bit.  Can you talk

about the kindest way to give someone honest feedback?  So you are actually helping them,

but you are not wounding them so they won't go on [to write].

Danny Strong:  Well I think that the best way to give feedback and I very much rely

on feedback and I need notes from people and it helps me see problems and it's a very

important part of my process is getting feedback. But I think to keep…I mean good feedback

is when it's just about the script.  It doesn't get personal.  It doesn't talk

about bigger ideas of whether you can do this or not or you have talent or not. Where it's

literally about how to make this script or this story better in areas that are problematic.

I think it's really important when someone is getting feedback that they talk to a few

people.  That they get feedback from maybe three people.  Because there could be feedback

that someone gives you that they are very passionate about but they don't know what

they're talking about.  It's bad feedback and they're just not good at giving feedback.

There's a lot of people that aren't good at giving feedback, right?  So you want a

few opinions.  And for me when I start hearing from two or three people the same problem

they're having, well there's probably a problem there and there is probably something

I need to address. And one of my favorite parts of

writing is when I take a problem and then I fix it

and then it's good. That's so exciting because you have something that was bad that's

now good and it's like you have a hole and instead of a ditch, you have a statue there

instead.  So

I can only get there by getting feedback from people.

Film Courage:  When do you start writing everyday?

Danny Strong: So I have basically the same pattern when I'm writing. Sometimes if I'm

in production it will change.  But if I'm just in

a writing phase (which is my favorite

to be honest with you

because I love my schedule as a writer) I wake up,

I go somewhere, have breakfast and usually I can go somewhere and write

and then I'll open my computer…so now it's around 10:30
