Once upon a time,
an emperor in China received a book from a country far away.
In the book it was written:
"The emperor in China has the most wonderful castle in the world.
Moreover, he has a nightingale which sings beautifully in his garden."
The emperor read the book and said to his men.
"Hmm, there is a bird called a nightingale and it is the most wonderful singing bird in the world!
The book said it lives in my garden.
Go find the nightingale before midnight."
His men looked for the nightingale all over the castle but couldn't find it.
'Where is the nightingale?'
Then a young girl who works in the kitchen said.
"The nightingale sings a beautiful song for me in the forest when I bring food for my sick mother."
Following the girl, all the men headed for the forest.
In the forest, they could hear beautiful singing which sounded like a bell.
"Shhh! Look, there is the nightingale."
She stopped and pointed at a gray bird on a branch.
She talked to the nightingale. "Sing your song for the emperor."
The nightingale went to the castle on that night as the girl asked.
The bird sang a song in front of the emperor.
The emperor was deeply moved. Shedding tears, he said to the nightingale.
"What wonderful singing! Stay with me forever, Nightingale."
The emperor made a gorgeous cage and the bird stayed there for him.
Some time passed, a gift arrived from a distant country.
It was a beautiful gold nightingale decorated with diamonds and rubies.
This nightingale started to sing
and wagged its tail feathers at same time after winding a key on its belly.
"I don't need anything besides this gold nightingale."
The gray nightingale heard this remark and left for the forest where she used to sing.
Then one year passed.
One night
the gold nightingale suddenly made a clicking sound and stopped singing.
The emperor called a doctor and a watchmaker to fix the broken gold nightingale.
None of them could fix the broken shaft.
Then five years passed.
The emperor was sick and nobody thought he could recover.
So his adviser secretly appointed a successor
and prepared for a smooth transition for after the emperor passes away.
The emperor cried in his bed.
"Sing a song for me one more time, my gold nightingale."
Suddenly, a beautiful song echoed outside his window.
It was the nightingale from the forest.
The bird came to sing for the emperor on his deathbed.
The emperor heard the singing and felt his energy coming back to him.
The nightingale kept singing with all her heart.
"My lord, I am singing for you. Please be well again."
The emperor's men quietly came into the room after the nightingale flew away.
They thought the emperor had passed away.
The emperor sat up in the bed full of energy and greeted his men.
"Good morning everyone!"
